rereading the luxury liner arc after I just got back into my hyperfix recently and I wanna make sure I have a fresh understanding of the characters and. Guys I’m slowly being convinced of dadbastian now. I’m a changed woman

Me and @stargazing-zani were bored so have this list of what partner pokemon the ff7 crew would have

The Banora boys get the Applin variants. Genesis gets a Flapple and Angeal has an Appletun

Genesis also tries to deflect attention onto his much flashier Ceruledge in public tho

Angeal was also given an Aegislash by his father which he nicknamed Buster. Buster has seen too much as it’s passed down to Zack and then Cloud in turn, watching its partners suffer but unable to form the words to comfort them

Hojo tries and tries to get Sephiroth something big, ultra-powerful and intimidating, but Seph is set on the adorable Mew which found him and refused to leave his side. Still a mythical so Hojo lets him keep it but is very miffed

Cloud was adopted by a Galarian Zapdos bc chocobo. I don’t make the rules. I do feel like the character arc the Sobble line goes through fits him really well tho

Zack has an unevolved Rockruff for quite a while. When it eventually does evolve, no matter what time of day it is, it will inevitably evolve into Midday Lycanroc because Zack’s sunny personality is overwhelming

Aerith has a Tinkaton. They’re perfect for each other

I don’t know how to explain it but Mudsdale gives me Tifa vibes, also it was a powerhouse when I had it on my team and I love it

Hojo created a Mewtwo bc all other pokemon rejected him, but it immediately turned on its creator and murders him violently, preventing all problems and fixing everything without the need for time travel

Insane Seph got a Deoxys bc creepy alien. Maybe it is Jenova in this universe and starts corrupting him as soon as he gets it driving him insane

Rufus gets a Houndoom bc that’s basically what Darkstar is anyways

Cait Sith is basically just Meowth already, I don’t need to do much here. Maybe Perrserker to be the version from the Scotland area Pokemon game

Alternatively for Reeve I feel like Duraludon works, bc urban development and it reminds me of the Neo Midgar concepts

Heidegger gets either a Skuntank or a Granbull, idk which but vibes

Oh dear god while writing this I thought too much about the implications of SOLDIER still existing in a world where pokemon battles replaced normal fighting. Maybe it was an experiment to splice human dna with pokemon to get humans to be able to fight using pokemon moves too? So like you go up against a SOLDIER, faint all 6 of their pokemon and think yay I’ve won, and then the SOLDIER just starts going after your pokemon themselves. They are their own 7th pokemon

Grand Prix arc is mostly terrible but there's some stuff my joukai brain latched onto.

(Seriously Ziegfried should have been way more interesting than he was as somebody who knew Kaiba as a kid)

1. Anyway, Zieg is an example of a rich asshole who genuinely doesn't care about Jou. He truly cannot be bothered with his presence and doesn't even look at him half the time. Unlike Kaiba who says Jou is a waste of his time but he goes out of his way to antagonize him.

2. Multiple times Honda or Otogi complain about Kaiba being arrogant or having too much confidence and Jou just goes "thats Kaiba for you." He thinks that confidence is sexy af.

3. Jous jaw on the floor after Kaiba easily beats Zieg. He probably thought that was one of the hottest things he'd ever seen.

4. Jous comment a few mins after the duel "I'm never happy when Kaiba wins but Ziegfried was a jerk" ummmm dude you are literally his biggest cheerleader besides Mokuba unless he's dueling Yugi or yourself.

5. Just an indulgent thought I had: Ziegfried wants Kaiba so bad it makes him stupid but Kaiba could not give 2 fucks about him. His loss to Kaiba would have even even worse for him if he saw Kaiba give Jou, this worthless nobody in his eyes, a victory kiss.

6. It's cute how Mokuba was a member of the cheer squad this arc. He really is part of the gang!

Hehe yes, there are some fun tidbits to latch onto in the Grand Prix. (I mostly ignore the part with Yuugi and Vivian, but I like Rebecca as a character so there's fun parts of her in that arc).

It's true. 😭 Siegfried really treated Jou like an ant in their duel. Unfortunately, Jou had to lose for narrative purposes to develop Siegfried as a "credible threat" to Kaiba. (LOL, made all the more funny how Kaiba easily spanks Siegfried in a duel afterward).

You can't convince me that confident people aren't Jou's type: Kaiba, Mai, Yami Yugi (if you're into dragonshipping).

Hot damn! says Jou.

Heheh he can't let his crush be discovered. (Y'know, despite him also cheering for Kaiba in his duel against Pegasus, throughout parts of Battle City and Noa's Virtual World). In fact, as long as Kaiba's not his or Yami Yugi's opponent, Jou has generally cheered him on.

Siegfried's one-sided rivalry with Kaiba is soooo funny. I forgot who said it (I wanna say tentatively it was @unfriendlyamazon?) but you kinda feel a bit for the guy when you consider the fact that he moved into games first to escape the shadow of the Kaiba name and yet Kaiba follows him into the same industry and completely overshadows him. He can't catch a break at all.

Mokuba deserves friends too! Always thought it would be great if he could get along with kids closer in age to him like Rebecca and Leon. In my head, they become their own little gang post-canon.

I kinda like how the show developed Galadriel and Halbrand in season 1, and Galadriel and Elrond in season 2, but I remember the "Celeborn will be back don't worry" said by one of the showrunners during comic con, and I'm a bit disappointed. He was gone for two seasons, and now we're supposed to cheer for his return, after the destruction of Eregion? I'm mean, but I don't want him to show up... 😣

Aight so to be honest, and I mean COMPLETELY HONEST,

I do fear this. I do fear they might bring him back. But it would be a terrible decision if they did. Here’s my top 3 reasons why it won’t work:

1) There’s too much chemistry with other characters.

- Clearly she felt something for Halbrand. It was romantically driven because there were lines such as the numenorean’s taunting Hal saying “wait till she prefers someone of better breeding.” Lol. And ofc him wanting her to be his queen, it was definitely part of the plot.

- They had her KISS another character, and not just any character, her “more than best friend” (giggling at this lmao) who ALSO led the siege of Eregion and rescued her twice and is just able to read her like and book. It wouldn’t please the viewers at this point to break up a super close, well established “friendship” after bringing them together again at the end of S2.

- If she was soooo in love with Celeborn, then there wouldn’t be opportunity for her to have this much intimacy with other male leads lol.

2) It would slow down the story line

- How would Celeborn fit into all that’s happening right now? They’d have to stop and explain everything to him. Unless somehow he magically knew already? Then he somehow takes centre stage and fights in the war of last alliance while the main protagonist just sits out?? Erm. Ok then.

- There’s been ONE reference to him. If he was more significant and they wanted folks to be gearing up in anticipation for him, then they would’ve built on it. For instance, we’ve had points from season 1 all the way till end of season 2 that have hinted at Elendil’s eventual meet up with Anarion. He’s was mentioned once in season 1 I think, then season 2, plus Elendil’s palantir vision. It would just be so odd to have Celeborn show up and suddenly “matter” after a whole season of… nothing. Not to mention what happened DURING that nothing lol.

Anyways.

3) He’s a very uninteresting character

- Let’s be real here. The vast majority of folks who are interested in seeing Celeborn on the show are the lorebros who don’t want the romances messing up the generational lore. Well guess what? It’s already messed up. So many characters that currently exist in the ROP timeline should not exist yet, so it’s clearly an issue the writers don’t have that much beef with. Besides, there’s nothing that significant that he did other than become Galadriel’s husband. If we had seen the two of them falling in love, flashbacks to their past together, and then have it tie into Galadriel’s revenge arc, then yeah I would be more excited to see him return. What did we get instead?

(Honestly this clam is prettier than I’d expect Celeborn to be with the way Gal described him.)

- Instead of including Celeborn in the beginning, we have instead, Elrond being the voice of reason, wisdom, affection, resilience— not to mention literally leading the siege of Eregion. In the books, Celeborn was supposed to be a part of that battle(but like, lost or something?). So they’ve already taken out one major event that would’ve made him more interesting. They’re running out of material to work with here lol.

- Showrunners are going to have to work real hard to develop a character that we know hardly anything about. It’s different than other characters that get introduced later, such as Anarion and Glorfindel. Even CIRDAN got more hype. Those characters have a long lasting record of being actually interesting enough for people to anticipate their arrival. They won’t need to do as much fleshing out because the base material has already done it. But Celeborn? Tell me where is the RIZZ because i much desire yada yada you get the joke.

Anyways. If the writers are smart, then their plans to add Celeborn will not be some grand scheming wonderous break through. It’ll just be for closure, and not much of anything else. Maybe he’ll have moved on and found another lady while Galadriel was away or something lol. MAYBE HE GOT CORRUPTED IDK.

But, they might still do it. They might just add him in to please the lorebros, shove elrond to the side and continue on with the og story.

They’d lose a lot more fans doing that then if they had Elrond and Galadriel be endgame.

There I said it.

Hopefully this sort of answers your ask, brings you some peace of mind— but I wouldn’t get too excited just yet. We’re in it for the long haul here.

Some character development questions:

Eden gets to fight one person from any era, peice of media, or other work of fiction. Do they take the opportunity? If so who do they choose to fight and why?

How did Az meet Mary Magdelene (the first iteration)? Was he in goat form at the time or did he choose that form later? If so why did he choose that form?

Also, in reference to Maggy's flashback dream, did Yeshua specifically reference Az as the good hands he was leaving her in?

Of your characters which is most likely to cheat at card games and who figures out the cheater first? (My guess is Eden and Cain fill both roles and end up quietly reenacting the spiderman pointing meme with their body language and facial expressions)

What was Edith like pre salt lick incident? (if you have any lore on that)

Finally: what makes each member of the au happiest?

Omg these are a lot of questions so this will be suuuuuper long lmao hope you don’t mind! But I know you wouldn’t lol. Anyway.

Eden is mostly a pacifist (or calls themselves one anyway) so I don’t think they’d try to fight anyone except maybe Azazel if he got on their nerves too much. And even then, they would mostly try to intimidate him into submission. As for any historical/fictional figure…. Uuuuuh probably nobody? Their main thing is just standing in the background watching. They didn’t lift a finger to help Azazel when the Nephilim were killed so I doubt they’d take action against anyone really. They did intervene in Eve and Adam’s first life, but only to help with their farm and after that they still blended in the background. They could have helped Eve in all her various lives where she was ostracized for being a demon but they never did more than offer her shelter and sometimes drive away a couple of people.

Azazel met Magdalene when he was in goat form yes!!! I actually want to go over his backstory in the second arc of the story (and it’s also the one I’m most excited about hehehe) BUT briefly: when he got out of hell he was hella traumatised, both from his years underground at the mercy of his abusive partner and because he never really processed what happened to the Nephilim (throw in also the guilt about abandoning his daughter in hell, this man has SUFFERED) so his plan was mostly to survive amongst humans and not much else. He was also really scared about forming new connections, since every time he tried something went horribly wrong, so he chose to stay in animal form and blend into the background. Minima risk of making new friends! Life was mostly okay, until he ended up in Judas’ flock (he was a shepherd in his first life) and that’s how he started actually caring about these people. So yeah, he first met Magdalene (and Judas) in animal form BUT his first “official” introduction to Maggy happened when Judas was already dead. I actually want to showcase this in the comic sometime, or even an event if anybody asks in depth about it, but basically, after those three days, Maggy went to retrieve Judas’ body from the tree and Azazel went with her (he was basically her pet at that point? She didn’t know he was sentient) but seeing her so distraught at the sight of her beloved made him choose to reveal himself. She was so sad and desperate that she didn’t really react that much, and so he held her until she calmed down a bit. They buried Judas and after a while they fled Jerusalem together and started new life somewhere else.

And YES Yeshua was definitely referencing him!! He already knew Azazel was no ordinary goat. I think Yeshua was Azazel’s first human friend after getting out of hell, but he still asked him to keep his secret because he was afraid of causing too much trouble. Try to explain to twelve men why the son of God is friends with what looks like a demon.

As for the characters most likely to cheat at cards: Cain. Definitely Cain. Lazarus too since he’s a little shit, but he wouldn’t really notice if someone was cheating right away. Cain is the master cheater, with millennia of experience to booth. Azazel might know how to cheat at cards, but he probably only knows very old games that aren’t in use anymore. As for Eden, they don’t really have an interest in cards so they usually don’t play, but I guess they could know how to cheat if they put their mind to it? But they’d never notice anyone cheating at cards with them. Eden is, first and foremost, dumb as a rock. They might love humans, but they do not understand them. Body language, facial expressions, tone, it’s all lost on them. Just look how they handled Judas, you can’t tell me that dude has ever had a coherent thought in their whole life. If they had any money you could easily scam them out of it and they’d be none the wiser.

And now Edith time… I must admit I didn’t really think much about her, but since Lot and his family were the only ones spared from the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah… I guess she was an okay woman? Her marriage to Lot was most definitely arranged (as was the custom) but not an entirely bad one, she probably loved her daughters enough to teach them about sin and protect them, she might have had friends in Sodom and that’s why she turned around… Maybe she wanted to see her city one last time? She probably had family there too if you think about it, it made sense she would turn around even if God told her not to. Mythology is full of people who turn around when they shouldn’t.

And now the big one, which I’m going to divide into a list because I want to be neat

Isaac: I guess he’s the happiest when a good client commissions him and allows him to live his dream a little bit longer. He’s a struggling artist kinda like me lol and while he loves what he does he fears it won’t be enough to support him in the long run. He tries to not think about it. Luckily some new supernatural shenanigans are on the way to get his mind off of things!

Magdalene: learning new things and spending time with her loved ones make her happiest. They have the ability to make her feel like the best woman on earth even when she feels like a failure. And they’re always the first to hype her up. Her family is also very much up there with things that make her happy.

Judas: his lovers make him the most happy. It’s nice to be reminded you’re loved and cared for even if you feel like a failure of a human being. And while he hisses and spits like a cat at the mere thought of affection, he cherishes every moment with them always. They got him through a lot of rough times and helped him hang on just a little longer every time.

Azazel: not being in hell anymore makes him the happiest. Sure, life on Earth isn’t nice all the time, he still has to see his loved ones die over and over before him, and he needs to find them at every new iteration, but it’s still a million times better than being in hell. He’s carved himself a little place to exist on Earth and he couldn’t be happier about it.

Apollyon: Being on Earth makes him happy. He’s never seen it before and every day is a new wonder for him. And the fact that he gets to experience it with the people he loves the most is a very nice bonus.

Cain: he hasn’t felt happiness in a long time. The most he can go for is numbness, and it’s usually found at the bottom of a bottle.

Eve: she loves being an artist and her work. I think her happiest is when she gets to tattoo someone who loves her work. It feels like leaving a little piece of her with them.

Lilith: a lot of things make her happy, hanging out with her friends, the children she teaches at her kindergarten, a good meal, playing with Fwendy… she’s learned to appreciate the little things in life. I guess the “boring” times are the one where she’s the most happy, everyone is fed and there’s nothing to worry about, what’s not to love? Cain will also find a way to make her even happier but it’s a bit too early for that hehe.

Eden: Eve makes them happiest but they don’t know that yet.

Samson: he’s the happiest when he doesn’t have to think about his mother and when he’s out of the house. It’s not like he’s unhappy with her, but he’s always immensely stressed.

Lazarus: this is a tricky one, but I guess seeing his little sister growing up to be a great woman is what makes him happiest. Deep down he kinda feels like damaged goods since he’s been plagued by horrible luck since the day he was born and can’t keep a job to save his life. So he’ll do everything in his power to make Bethany happy and keep her safe, even if it means lying to her sometimes. He’s also convinced having Samson all for himself will make him happy but that’s not really what will happen.

Bethany: as of right now, her faith in God and His plan is what keeps her going, so I guess she’s happiest when she’s praying. It’s almost like meditation for her, a couple of minutes where the only things existing are her and God. It’s a nice little break from the stress of her life and leaves all charged up to face a new day.

Jacob: Esau and Lazarus makes him the happiest. They’re the two most important people in his life and he loves hanging out with them. In his ideal world, they’d all live in the same house and have wacky sitcom adventures. Samson can come along too I guess.

Esau: he’s the happiest when he’s away from Jacob and able to listen to his own thoughts. He strives for independence and has been trying to distance himself from Jacob for years at this point, to the point of going behind his brother’s back to go and live alone. He’s currently planning on moving away from Jacob, he’s already found an apartment. It’s not like he doesn’t love his brother, far from it, it’s just that he feels stunted with always having to care for him, and he thinks Jacob should do some growing on his own. They’re both 30, and as much as they love eachother, it’s time for them to become men.

Edith: she doesn’t really feel anything as her soul is sleeping inside the salt, but I guess finally going to heaven and seeing all her family there will make her very happy.

6. Is there a battle nexus? Is it a respected facility or operated by criminals?

Oh man I haven't really thought of the battle nexus before...... tbh if I include it I'd like it to be a part of their space arc maybe, so leaning towards it being more of a respected facility, or at the very least an institution that is very clear about how it operates even if some of the rules aren't great

15. Is the Hamato clan history relevant? How did the clan originate?

It's SUPER relevant, much of the plot stems from the story of the Hamato clan. The clan originated from a much larger clan actually that was set to be inherited by two twin brothers. They disagreed on how to run the clan so they split it into two, one called the Hamato and one called the Foot. I don't want to go too much into the specifics of the rest of the history of the clans since I'm planning on a little art piece involving that soon, but basically the two do become enemies and even more important, the Hamato clan are designated as the liaisons between the human and mystic worlds. When Saki defects to the Foot and Yoshi seems to be shirking his duties, a bunch of yokai leaders commission for the turtles to be created to continue to have protectors of the Hamato bloodline. So yeah big effects on the story even just beyond the later fighting with Saki and the Foot over the Shredder armor hakdhskdh

21. Do the turtles time travel?

I know I definitely want them to cause that's a classic tmnt trope at this point but I don't know what that would entail. I really am a sucker for the stuff that loops, like whatever they did in the past affects their existence in the present and because they exist in the present they're able to go back and do those actions in the past, it was always destined to happen, etc. So it'd probably be something along the lines of that + just some fun stuff like always :)

22. If there is a battle nexus, who fights in it?

If I go with it being attached to the space arc, I think all the turtles might end up fighting in it, either on purpose or accidentally. I'm really attached to battle nexus champion Mikey so if they fight he's definitely winning the whole thing hakdhskdhsk 16 years old and champion of the universe(multiverse??) <3

HMMM THIS IS A HARD ONE..... it's like an even split between Leo and Raph, they're so compelling to me..... gives them problems forever and forever.

78. Tell us something you want to share about your au/iteration!

I think of the story for this iteration as split up into 4 main arcs! Each arc is based around a specific turtle and has a major conflict associated with it as the focus, though obviously all plots and character development continue to varying degrees throughout the course of the story. But anyways, in order they are:

Raph - conflict is Foot/Shredder based, deals with the past catching up to them and the cycles of past vs present. Big focus on Raph and Leo's strained relationship and the lengths Raph is driven to for his family, culminating in [REDACTED]

Donnie - conflict centered around the hidden city, marked by delving into mystics even more than before and uncovering secrets of the yokai world and their creation. Donnie's efforts start to unveil the larger webs

Mikey - conflict based on the Krang and associated space adventures (certain time related shenanigans also come to a head), involves truly stepping into the larger world and universe and continuing to follow the threads. Mikey reflects a final coming of age and shaking off forces seeking to control them

Leo - conflict with the pantheon (hello idw fans <3), embodies the final culmination of taking their lives into their own hands and refusing to be used as pawns. Addressing the issue of their influence is the last step Leo needs to take as a leader.

As for a bonus question, I'll answer:

39. Is there a Karai/Miwa?

Honestly? Maybe both! Karai for sure exists in this au, she's the turtles' cousin and ends up on their side of the Foot/Hamato conflict after a while, but I might also have Miwa in there as a person totally removed from most of the plot as Tang Shen's daughter. Not quite sure on that yet though

So… This isn’t even a headcanon but is canon as I’ve come to happily learn as I am a crazy and delusional Reborn fan my apologies ♡ but Reborn is a big foodie. Loves to eat and is actually not very picky about his food. One of his favourite things about travelling is trying all the different cuisines! Not to mention he’s definitely someone who has had the opportunity to try some of the best and even fanciest foods in the world. All that being said his favourite meals will always be a home cooked meal made with love. I won’t go into it too much here because it isn’t the right place (this is about food not family!) but I have always headcanoned Reborn as an orphan so to him being able to have a home cooked meal is a privilege he will always acknowledge in his heart and never not appreciate. 

💕 for a love headcanon

Two words I would use to describe Reborn are loyal and devoted. When it comes to the ones he loves (Both romantic and platonic/familial) Reborn believes in absolute loyalty. You may not expect this coming from a murder-for-hire hitman but once you become a loved one in his eyes you’ve gained his loyalty and devotion (So don’t make him regret it or else… Well you’ll soon be the one regretting it 🔫/j) . And he naturally expects the same from those he let’s into his heart! In fact, loyalty is a quality he can greatly appreciate in someone else (as long as it’s not blind and reckless devotion). So yes, while Reborn’s loyalties can be bought if you’re hiring him for his skills, his heart is something that can not be!

😵 for a sickness headcanon

Reborn himself has a good immune system! And he doesn’t allow himself to get sick often but when he does catch the occasional cold, flu, or fever, he does ignore it for as long as he can. Maybe allows himself a moment of bed rest before he’s back to the usual grind. He just doesn’t have time to be sick and naturally hates the weakened state it puts him in. 

But… after he meets Apple, and the very first time he gets sick around her she’s immediately on his case forcing him into bed and not in the way he would prefer lol and she’s fluttering and tittering around him like a worried mother hen. And for once he's being taken care of and isn’t being allowed to ignore his health. He’s understanding for the first time what it’s like to be doted on and cared for and he finds he quite enjoys it. And maybe… Just maybe, he’ll even stay in bed an extra day or two and allow his body to get some rest…

It takes a while for Tsuna to get used to Italian food. When he first moved away from home and relocated to Italy permanently the novelty wore off pretty fast and he found himself missing and craving Japanese food every day. The restaurants just didn’t quite make it the same way, and he especially missed his mother’s home cooking. He did teach himself to cook as he grew older, and so even when he tried to replicate her recipes it just never quite hit the same. Then when he went to go visit his mother and old friends in Namimori that first bite of the hambagu his mom made for him was just so divine… And yet… He couldn’t quite help but miss the taste of Italy as the days passed.  

💕 for a love headcanon

At first Tsuna would be rather reserved and shy about his affections. It’s not like he wants to be, heck if he could I’m sure he would love nothing more than to flaunt and show off his partner/significant-other. But he definitely has too much self-awareness and shame to do it so brazenly it’s okay Tsuna as someone with social anxiety I so get you. But this is something that changes with time and comfortability. While at first, he may even be reluctant to take their hand in public (or he'd get overly blushy and in his head about it sorta like in canon when he gets lost in his own daydreams and starts to get distracted and drool lol), but with time and growth eventually acts of affection come more naturally. He has no problem grabbing his partner's hand, putting his hand on their waist. There’s no unsureness or reluctance as he proudly introduces his partner to others, the pride in his voice even more obvious actually. One thing though that never changes is the look of love and adoration he has in his eyes when he looks at them. Still as love-sick and head over heels as the day he first fell in love. 

😵 for a sickness headcanon

Growing up whenever Tsuna was sick it was always his mom taking care of him. He never had to really think or worry much. Just rest and get better. So, the first time when he was older, and he was away from home and sick. He couldn’t do anything but lie there feeling awful and miserable in bed. Too tired and worn to even get up and get himself some water to soothe his aching throat. In that moment he missed his home in Namimori more than ever. Missed his mom, the kids and he never realized how lucky he was before to have a noisy but warm home. Eventually, he falls into a fitful rest.

When he awakens there’s a cold damp cloth over his forehead. To his side is Reborn reading some of the unfinished files he left out. No doubt judging his messy work. He hears the sound of something breaking in his kitchen before the door of his bedroom door is bursting open with flustered (and slightly angry) Gokudera holding a bowl of congee comes in. His face immediately lighting up when he sees Tsuna awake. Then, just as quickly Yamamoto is entering his room too, an apron tied around his waist. They both take a moment to ask how he is and fuss around him in their own ways. Reborn would tell them they’re both being too noisy but, in a way, only Tsuna can tell is filled with fondness. And… Tsuna knows his kitchen (and probably his living room too) are gonna be such a mess. He definitely heard something break earlier. But right now, it doesn’t matter. Instead, he just lays back down. Tired but content. 

🐥Hibari Kyoya

🍯 for a food headcanon

Hibari to me doesn’t feel like a very picky eater. Yes, he has his preferences, which lean on the more traditional side, however he’s pretty open to eating most things! And not to mention he can eat quite a bit in one sitting too thinking back to that one ova where he steals all the food lol. That being said I do think Hibari is the type to not like take out and instead prefers home cooked traditional meals instead! Now, do we think Hibari can cook? Honestly? I don’t think so. He could maybe if he really tried but why would he? He’s always had food prepared for him and if for whatever reason there wasn’t food already cooked for him, he has no problem just taking someone else’s meal. Anything within his presence is his now good luck trying to get it back❤️

💕 for a love headcanon

Hibari is absolutely an action over words person. I think a lot of people will initially think he’s not a very affectionate person, but he is! He just shows it very differently from others. In fact, I feel like Hibari often gets mischaracterized as not being very emotive but he really is! He shows his emotions with his whole body. And I think this is especially obvious when he’s with someone he’s with someone he likes/loves. He’s not gonna say outright he loves them but he’s gonna find subtle (and not so subtle) ways to be around that person. Crowding around is fine as long as it’s with the right person <3 /hj… Will he still probably fight that person though and be the absolute menace that he is? Yes absolutely.

Also, his love language is acts of service so he’s your guy if you need help hiding a body.

😵 for a sickness headcanon

He doesn’t get sick often actually! Takes pretty good care of his body but my god he is fussy as hell when he is sick. By this I mean he’s demanding. Needs to be waited on hand and foot, make sure he’s got any liquids or foods on call or already ready just when he wants it. His bed needs to be set up made just the way he likes it and better not let anyone disturb his rest or else he’s gonna make it everyone else’s problem. In general, he’d just be the worst patient to have. Perhaps that’s why he prefers to just go to the hospital when he’s feeling under the weather as that means he already has many people at his beck and call and having the hospital director bribed certainly helps with that too. hehehe, it's the one I mentioned a little while ago, somewhere on my blog as "high fantasy wip". I described the vibes as "Six of Crows mixed with a DnD campaign."

The problem is that I have no plot, other than that first little inciting incident that I mentioned. And I don't really have the other characters solidified yet either. This WIP is really me just trying to come up with my ideal book based on my current interests, lmao. So maybe my interests will change before I ever finish it, but idk. I just think we need more found family fantasy stories, and as of right now, most of the found family stuff I've read has been YA centered. Which is fine, but adults deserve some too, right??

(a lot of this is going to be repeated from this ask I answered for @rose-bookblood, but I'm going to add a lot more too.)

Anyways, I'll try and tell you some more! I'll list the character ideas I have right now:

Avidra (Avi): they/them, elf of some sort, former assassin, like 127 years old. (but their species isn't considered "adult" until they're 100 years old.)

Asra: she/her, human, in her 20's, talented thief.

Brynn: she/her, trans, human, late 20's or early 30's, former pit fighter??

Orion: he/him. Not-quite-human sorcerer with a talent for fire. Going through his gifted kid burnout arc.

Healer/nature mage who thinks they have to save everyone, and haunted by the one time they couldn't. (pronouns tba)

A warlock who made a deal with an entity years ago and is now terrified of being possessed by said entity.

(by the way, you should know that there are absolutely zero cishet characters in this story. everyone is queer somehow.)

Those last two characters I'm not settled on, but they're character concepts I love a lot, so we'll see what happens.

As for the raven narrator, uh, yeah. He works for the Raven Queen, who is this world's goddess of death. He's meant to collect people's souls when they die. He starts following the group after the death that happens on the first fucking page (here) and gets invested. In a weird way, he does care about the group, but also, he's an immortal collector of souls. He has a very matter-of-fact approach to death and such, and his way of "caring" or being interested doesn't necessarily mean he hopes they don't die. He just wants to see what they do before they die.

His narration is going to have footnotes, which are like his little comments or interjections. (these are in first person) I have a deep love for the use of footnotes in storytelling.

So, um, picture him as like, Death from The Book Thief mixed a bit with the narrator from The Nevernight Chronicles. Though in my mind, the best use of footnotes will always be The Bartimaeus Trilogy, which I highly recommend to anyone who hasn't read it! But also, throw in the 3rd omniscient-ness of Lemony Snicket in A Series of Unfortunate Events.

And I got this idea from falling head first into a hyper fixation with Critical Role. So, ummm.... this is going to be a wild ride. But if I can pull it off (or at the very least come up with a plot and develop the characters), I will be very, very happy and proud of myself.

An in-depth analysis of Mikasa’s character development in relation to Eren and Levi

Author's Note: Hi, all! As I was re-reading and going over my previous post/analysis titled "On the change of dynamics of Mikasa's relationships with Eren and Levi," I realized that there were some points that I should've/could've included. Lol. I also came up with other points of analysis as well as arrived at other realizations concerning Mikasa's connections with Eren and Levi. So, I've decided to post them here. This post can be considered a continuation of the previous analysis since it supplements and further expounds on the last post's points. But this can still stand on its own since it also talks about additional issues. Haha. If you want to read the previous post, the link is up there. Hehehe.

Fair Warning: This is a very long post. Lol.

This post will analyze the following:

1.  How Mikasa's connection to Eren is rooted in their shared history. This was already touched upon in the previous post, but this post will expound more on this.

2.  How Mikasa's character development is affected by Eren's own character development. How her development as a character is affected by this will also be discussed. This segment will also analyze how Mikasa's connection to Eren became strained because of the latter's drastic change in the latter part of the series.

3.  How "Chapter 138: A Really Long Dream" is about Mikasa finally letting go of and "waking up" from her dream. This post shall also analyze how Chapter 138 is actually the climax and turning point of Mikasa's character development concerning Eren.

4.  How Eren represents Mikasa's dream, while Levi represents her reality. This will be further expounded on later.

From the foregoing topics, it’s clear that this is a primarily Mikasa-centered analysis. Haha. I just had so many thoughts running through my mind about her development that I was eager to make this post. Lol.

So, anyway, we now delve in:

1.    Mikasa's connection to Eren is rooted in their shared history.

In the series, most of Mikasa's actions and reactions tend to either revolve around or be connected to Eren. About this, it is necessary to take into account their relationship and shared history.

Before Mikasa met Eren, she was a young girl who lived a relatively peaceful and quiet life with her loving parents. But then, all that changed when human traffickers killed her parents in front of her eyes and kidnapped her to sell her as a sex slave.

During this time, she was just an innocent young girl who hadn't experienced much of the world yet. So, one can only imagine the pain, shock, and trauma that she must have felt during her brief period of captivity. Being so young at the time, she was understandably shaken and scared – having had her family and her innocence forcibly and violently taken away from her.

However, hope came in the form of a young Eren who had gone looking for her on his own when he and his father discovered her parents' bodies. When he found her, he wasted no time taking action and immediately killed two of her captors before freeing her. When the third captor arrived and tried to strangle Eren, he told her to fight. At first, she was scared to do so, as evidenced by her shaking when she held the knife Eren used to cut her binds. While he kept telling her to fight, memories suddenly flashed in her mind, and they made her realize that they lived in a cruel but beautiful world. During this time, her dormant "Ackerman powers" awakened and thus gave her the strength and courage to actually fight and deliver the killing blow – thereby freeing both herself and Eren. As we all know, in the aftermath, the Yeagers took Mikasa in, and Eren gave her his scarf when she said that she felt cold.

As mentioned before, Mikasa and Eren's shared history is important. This is because it defined the early dynamics of their relationship. Eren was literally and figuratively her savior. He saved her from captivity and from a potential future of abuse. He also saved her from loneliness and despair. When she lost her biological parents, she found a new family in Eren, Grisha, and Carla. The Yeager parents treated her warmly and kindly, and Eren was her constant companion (apart from Armin, of course). Having experienced the severe trauma of violently losing her parents, she never wanted to lose anyone precious to her ever again. This is evidenced by the following situations in the series:

a)  When she and Eren desperately wanted to save Carla from the Smiling Titan in Season 1. Neither she nor Eren wanted to leave her behind. So, when Hans carried them away to safety, Mikasa was visibly crying and heartbroken.

b)  When she attacked Levi with tears in her eyes when he initially declared that he would use the Titan serum on Erwin instead of Armin. Armin, alongside Eren, was one of the most precious people left in her life. As such, the idea of losing him was painful. When Levi eventually decided to save Armin instead, Mikasa wept tears of joy when Armin fully recovered after eating Bertolt.

c)  When Mikasa cried upon seeing Sasha's dead body. While the development of their friendship wasn't fully shown, it was clear that Sasha meant a great deal to Mikasa as the former's death affected her deeply.

About Mikasa not wanting to lose anyone close to her, it is evident and apparent that Eren was the most special person in her life. This is not surprising since Eren was the one who literally saved her, and there's also the fact that he was the only one left of her adoptive family. Apart from these, I think that the following reasons are also possible and probable causes as to why Eren was the most special:

a)  Eren was her source of hope and strength. When she fell into despair when she was kidnapped, Eren gave her hope when he came to her rescue. It was also during the struggle against her captors that she awakened her inner Ackerman power. So, she might have attributed her then new-found strength to him. 

[Side note: I'm aware that Eren was lying when he commented that Mikasa had responded to his "command" to fight back then because she mistakenly thought that he was a "royal host." In the “Attack on Titan ANSWERS” guidebook, Isayama-sensei himself stated that "[Mikasa, Levi, and Kenny] are all part of the same Ackerman bloodline. However, their reasons for protecting their respective counterparts do not have anything to do with the bloodline itself—it is just their nature." When I said that Mikasa attributed her then new-found strength to him, I was talking in figurative and emotional terms. Lol.]

b)    In her eyes, Eren represented the good in their cruel world. Because of Eren, Mikasa realized that the world is cruel but is also beautiful – meaning that there's also good in it

My take is that all of these things shaped and formed the beginnings of Mikasa's connection to Eren. Their shared history influenced Mikasa's overly protective nature towards him and her affection for him. Eren was the foundation of her strength and a constant reminder that there was still good in the cruel world they lived in. As such, she would have done anything to protect him and all that he meant to her.

This is particularly important as we proceed to the second point of this analysis, which is how Mikasa's character development is affected by Eren's.

2.    Mikasa's character development is affected by Eren's.

For the most part of the series, Mikasa has been characterized by her strong urge to protect Eren. The reasons behind this protective nature of hers have already been expounded earlier. At this juncture, I shall now discuss how Mikasa was affected by the kind of person Eren used to be.

Specifically, this portion of the analysis will be divided into two (2) parts: the first will be about their character developments during the pre-Marley arc. The second will be about their developments during the Marley arc and going onwards.

a)    Pre-Marley Arc

As previously mentioned, Eren was her literal savior. And she saw firsthand how he would willingly place himself in danger to protect others. She appreciated Eren's good-nature. And she likely saw him as a sort of embodiment of the things that make the cruel world they live in more bearable and more beautiful.

It is essential to consider the kind of person that Eren used to be before the Marley arc. Before the truth of the world and the Titans was revealed, Eren was a mischievous and stubborn child. Still, at the same time, he was also good-natured, determined, selfless, and courageous. His resolve, courage, and desire to protect others were further amplified when the Warriors of Marley attacked his hometown of Shiganshina and when the Smiling Titan ate his mother.

The early stages of Eren's development are relevant to Mikasa's own development. Due to his well-meaning nature and their shared history, Mikasa felt strongly inclined to side with him and protect him at all times. While this is understandable on her part, it has also proven to be problematic.

Her disposition towards Eren impaired her judgment

For instance, it has been shown on more than one occasion that Mikasa's affection for Eren has impaired her judgment. This has been exemplified in the following cases:

a)    Back in Season 1, when both she and Armin thought that Eren had been killed, Mikasa went on a reckless rampage on her own against the Titans which invaded Trost. To be fair, she was grief-stricken under the circumstances. Nonetheless, her actions were still irresponsible, and she nearly lost her own life because of them.

b)    When she recklessly went after Annie in her Female Titan form after the latter had captured Eren in the Forest of Giant Trees outside the Walls. Mikasa would have probably been killed had Levi not arrived. Furthermore, because of her rage towards Annie during this time, Mikasa disobeyed Levi's order not to engage Annie in battle. Her decision endangered her; it also resulted in Levi's injury, which rendered him unable to fight for some time.

It also narrowed her priorities and way of thinking

As mentioned in my previous post, Mikasa is not cruel or heartless towards others. It has been shown that she has empathy for innocent and helpless people. This is likely because of her own experiences with being powerless. The following instances exemplify this:

a)    When she saved Louise and her mother from one of the Titans that had invaded Trost.

b)    When she threatened Dimo Reeves with her sword when he refused to allow the district's defenseless citizens to pass through the pathway leading to the protected areas until all of his merchandise and goods were carried through. She only relented her threatening demeanor and actions when he had this cart moved to the side to make way for the citizens to pass.

However, because of the extent of her concern and devotion to Eren, Mikasa seemed to disregard nearly everything else whenever he was in danger.

An example of this was during the Struggle for Trost and Eren's military trial in Season 1. When Eren transformed to begin the mission to seal the Wall, he initially lost control and attacked Mikasa and the others. It is worth noting that it was unintentional on his part. However, that does not change the fact that his loss of control nearly jeopardized the mission and placed his comrades in danger.

While the mission was ultimately successful, Eren's loss of control was still a serious source of concern. Because of this, he was temporarily imprisoned. It was also decided that there would be a trial to see if he was either a threat or an asset to humanity within the Walls.

During this time, Mikasa was understandable apprehensive, and worried about Eren. It is worth noting that, as mentioned in my previous post, she was more concerned about him than the fact that he was still a potential threat at the time. It should be remembered that during this time, the inhabitants of Paradis (save for a select few such as the royal family and their followers) were ignorant of the truth about Titans and the world. As such, the fear directed towards Eren was valid and understandable. Yet, despite this, Mikasa was still singularly focused on him.

This is evidenced by the following:

a)    Her glaring at Rico when it was revealed that the latter had mentioned Eren's loss of control in the report that they had submitted. When Rico responded with, "Did you expect me to lie in a report?" Mikasa simply continued to glare at the Garrison soldier. On this, Rico was clearly in the right for telling the truth since Eren's powers were still a mystery and still potentially harmful to others. Yet, Mikasa was probably too worried about Eren to realize this.

b)    When she attempted to attack Levi when the latter began to physically beat Eren. She would've undoubtedly intervened had Armin not stopped her. I had already expounded on this in my previous post, but I will just add the pertinent excerpts here:

"The display was necessary to emphasize and prove that Levi, who is widely known as "Humanity's Strongest Soldier," was best suited to subdue Eren should he lose control of his abilities. Because of this, the Scouts were able to convince the Military Police and Premier Zackly that they should be given custody over Eren. At the time, Mikasa was gravely concerned about Eren's well-being and was perhaps too furious at Levi to think about anything else. Because of this, she probably did not immediately realize that Levi had effectively secured Eren's relative safety at the end of the day. "

"During the trial, the MPs spoke of planning to dissect him, among others. Conversely, the Scouts proposed that he participate in an upcoming scouting expedition to determine whether he is a threat or not. They also suggested that Eren be placed under Levi's direct supervision so that he could be subdued in the event of an incident. While the latter proposal still entailed some degree of violence, it was far less hostile and more beneficial to Eren than the MP's proposal."

To conclude this part, I think that Mikasa focused more on the fact that Eren never meant any harm. And she probably thought that Eren should not be punished because of this. Again, all of this shows how Mikasa was inclined to always side with Eren (even though his actions may sometimes do more harm than good) because of his good and well-meaning nature and their shared history.

b)   Marley arc until the present time

The second part of this segment shall now discuss how Eren's drastic and dark development affected Mikasa.

As mentioned before, Mikasa always sided with Eren because of their past and his good nature.

However, when Eren began changing for the worse, their relationship began to deteriorate. As mentioned in my previous post, they slowly but surely drifted apart until they lost their common ground.

At the start of the Marley arc (which is the beginning of the fourth season in the anime), Eren's personality had noticeably become darker. This is evidenced by his horrible actions, which endangered and cost lives, such as the following:

a)    When he executed his and Zeke's plan to raid Liberio so that they could both escape to Paradis Island. As a result of this plan, countless innocent civilians and children were killed in the process. Furthermore, several of his comrades from the Survey Corps/Scouting Regiment lost their lives, including Sasha.

b)    When he initiated the Rumbling with the intention to destroy all of humanity not residing within Paradis Island. This plan and course of action would eliminate both their enemies who were actively plotting to attack Paradis and millions of innocent civilians and bystanders.

At this point in time, Eren had changed from a good-natured and compassionate soldier dedicated to protecting innocents to a depressed and violent extremist. This change was triggered by the revelation of the truth about the world and his gaining access to the memories of the past and future inheritors of his Attack Titan.

With regard to how his terrible change affected Mikasa, it is clear that she was clearly disturbed by it.

Mikasa had begun to acknowledge that Eren was no longer the "good" in their cruel world.

During the raid on Liberio, she was visibly distraught and affected by Eren's destructive actions. It seemed that she was in disbelief – she even asked him if he was aware that he did things that cannot be undone. As mentioned in the previous post, Mikasa was even more distressed because Eren consciously caused the destruction and did not appear to show any remorse.

It is worth noting that Mikasa's empathy for innocent and defenseless people, especially children, was highlighted in this scene. When she asked Eren if he was aware of his actions' consequences, there were tears in her eyes.

At that point in time, Mikasa had begun to realize that the Eren she once knew was no longer with them. She had started to see that Eren no longer represented the good in the world; and that he had become a source of what makes it cruel.

Mikasa felt conflicted because she was in denial.

Throughout the Marley arc events up until the Rumbling arc, Mikasa still held on to the hope that Eren could still change for the better. It is true that she believed (or maybe desperately wanted to believe) that Zeke was manipulating him, but does not change the fact that Eren was acting on his own accord.

On several occasions, Mikasa had expressed her desire to talk to Eren and kept insisting that sense could still be talked into him. I think that this is an indicator that she was in a state of "pseudo-denial."

I used the term "pseudo-denial" because, from how I see it, Mikasa was already aware that Eren was no longer the same person who saved her.  That he was no longer the same person who insisted that Historia eat him so that humanity can be saved. That he was no longer the same person who would jump right into battle to protect innocent people; that he had turned into someone who had harmed and would continue to harm innocent people. However, it appears that Mikasa did not want to accept this fact. This is why she kept insisting on talking to Eren in the slim chance that he could still be persuaded to abandon his plan of initiating the Rumbling. She was torn between reality and her personal sentiments. In short, she still hoped that the kind person who stood up for the helpless and who saved her from bondage was still in there somewhere. This exemplified by this scene from Episode 14 of Season 4:

This pseudo-denial placed her odds with her allies and comrades. The others, such Armin, Annie, and Levi, had already accepted that Eren needed to be killed in the worst-case scenario. On this, it's apparent that Mikasa knew that they were right considering the circumstances. But she still felt conflicted because she still hoped that Eren could be convinced to not go through with his plans. However, that hope was dashed when Eren himself told them that the only way to stop him was to kill him. Yet, even then, she was still hesitant and conflicted.

Mikasa had matured because of their strained connection and had begun outgrowing her bond with Eren.

In a way, Mikasa was still holding onto the past. On this, Eren's dark character development is what caused their relationship to deteriorate. As previously discussed, Mikasa's connection to Eren is rooted in their shared history and the type of person he used to be. In the past, Eren was her savior, her family, and her source of strength and hope. But when he stopped being those things to her, the foundation for their bond was lost.

While it is tragic and drastic for Mikasa, this caused her to become more keenly aware of other priorities. She became more cognizant of the stakes involved rather than just focusing on Eren. Although she still cared greatly for him, she was no longer singularly focused on him. She became wise and mature enough to not turn a blind eye to the danger and threat that he posed. This in sharp contrast to how she acted in the past. Before, she would always place Eren's welfare first before nearly anything else. But because of recent developments, she finally began to realize and understand that there were other things more important than Eren. And I think that this is a significant turning point for her since he had affected and influenced her for most of her life.

Before Chapter 138, Mikasa was still in a state of "pseudo-denial" because of her hope for a more peaceful solution in dealing with Eren. But I think that the fact that she started feeling conflicted was the start of her process of outgrowing her bond with Eren. This is because she knew that she could no longer just turn a blind eye to his actions and their devastating effects.

The significance of her process of outgrowing her connection with Eren will be further expounded in the next point of analysis below.

3.    "Chapter 138: A Long Dream" is about Mikasa finally letting go of and "waking up" from her own dream.

It has already been established that Mikasa had dreamed of living a peaceful life for the longest time. She dreams of one that is similar to the kind she once had with her parents. In particular, Mikasa wanted to live such a life with her loved ones, particularly Eren. The "dream" she had during this chapter is evidence of this.

It is unclear whether what Mikasa saw was a dream, a hallucination, a vision, or, as some fans speculate, a memory from an alternate reality. In any case, it was not the reality that she lived in.

I've already stated earlier that her process of outgrowing Eren and their bond was significant. Concerning this, I think that the said process was part of a slow build-up towards her decision to finally let Eren go and kill him.

As previously mentioned, Mikasa seemed to have difficulty accepting that the Eren of her past had turned into the Eren who wished to destroy all of humanity outside of Paradis. She had struggled to fully acknowledge and accept this fact because it was too painful for her. However, as the situation started to become more drastic and desperate, she realized that she had no other choice but to face reality.

But even though she knew this, she still felt conflicted. Even when Eren told them that the only way to stop him was to kill him, she was still hesitant. She knew what needed to be done but could not accept it because of her attachment to Eren.

On this, I think that the "dream" or vision (or whatever it really was) that she had during the battle is representative of the kind of life she wishes and dreams for. When she, Levi, and the remaining Titan shifters were the only ones left to fight, she started having another headache. And when Levi told her that they were the only ones left who could kill Eren, her head pain intensified until the dream/vision started playing in her mind.

This is my take on this moment: the headache represented Mikasa's conflicted feelings. She knew that Eren needed to be stopped to save humanity. She knew that the rest of the world did not deserve to suffer from the cruel fate that Eren wished to bestow upon it. But her emotional attachments held her back from taking action. As for the dream/vision, I think it was her way of arriving at an epiphany and decision. And on this, maybe it was this dream/vision that gave Mikasa the resolve and courage to finally accept the reality. I will expound further.

In the dream/vision, Mikasa was crying. She said that she "shouldn't be there." And then dream-Eren spoke about their decision to run away from the Marleyan-Paradis conflict so that they could live in isolation and in peace during the last few years of his life. Dream-Eren then apologized for "bringing up the past."

I personally think that this was the proverbial straw that broke the camel's back. During this dream/vision, Mikasa finally realized that her wish and dream to live a peaceful life with Eren could no longer come true. Her dream was born in the past, and if there was any chance of it happening, it had already passed by. Mikasa finally realized that attaining her dream was already impossible at that point.

I also think that when dream-Eren told her to forget about him after he dies, this could be interpreted as Mikasa realizing that if she were to finally have a quiet and peaceful life, then Eren would not be a part of it.

Furthermore, Mikasa saying that she "had a long dream" could mean that she finally let go of her life-long wish/dream so that she can wake up to the reality she needed to face. It could be interpreted as her choosing to give up on Eren for good to make the world a less cruel place. On this, her decision to kill Eren herself was likely her way of letting him go and saying goodbye. It was the climactic resolution and outcome of her internal conflict where she struggled to choose between doing the right thing (saving humanity) and holding on to the most special thing in her life (Eren). In the end, she chose humanity over him because she knew that if she chose him, then their already cruel world would become darker and crueler.

A quick note on Mikasa saying that she can’t forget Eren:

Some people might say that Mikasa’s declaration that she can’t forget Eren means that she decided not to let him go. I personally disagree with this. It is completely possible to move on from someone and let them go without forgetting them. In Mikasa’s case, I think that by saying that she won’t forget Eren, she meant that she will always remember the peaceful, good, and happy times that they had together. I also think that it means that she will fondly remember Eren as the good person he used to be.

I think that it’s understandable and fair that Mikasa chooses to remember the good times and the good things. Because, for better or for worse, Eren was still a huge and influential part of her life. The old Eren and the good times they had together were very much real, and the happiness she felt during those times was also genuine and valid. I also think that her decision to wear the scarf around her neck before delivering the killing blow was her way of saying, “I’m letting you go. But I will always value the good moments we had together. Goodbye.”

4. Eren represents Mikasa's dream, while Levi represents her reality.

This is a personal take and interpretation of the possible symbolisms connecting Mikasa and Levi in Chapter 138.

During the final battle against Eren, only Levi, Mikasa, and the titan-shifters were left to fight. And during this battle, Mikasa started to have her dream/vision. While dealing with her conflicted emotions, she began to drift to her "dream" about Eren and away from reality. And while she was drifting away, Levi kept telling her to "stay with [him there]."

This could be interpreted as Levi being the voice calling out to her to stay in the current reality and not get lost in her distant and impossible dream. It is interesting to note that before she began "dreaming," an image of Eren as a child was shown, followed by a panel of a close-up of Levi's mouth with no dialogue. Meaning that everything around her had already faded away before she was immersed in her dream during that time.

This could symbolize the inner conflict and turmoil that Mikasa was experiencing. She was torn between holding on to the past and accepting the present.

When she woke-up, both literally and figuratively, Mikasa had decided to let go of her dream and of Eren. She finally accepted the reality and returned to it. She returned to Levi's side and faced reality alongside him.

Following this line of thought, this symbolic moment could foreshadow the kind of relationship they would have in the future. Considering that this final stand against Eren might very well be the most important battle of their lives, it would be reasonable to assume that they might form a deeper connection and relationship in its aftermath. They finished it together, so perhaps (and hopefully) it means that whatever the future might bring, they would also face it together.

Going back to how Eren and Levi are symbols, Eren represents her dream. Eren is not only a part of it; it is also linked to her past. Mikasa knew that her dream was impossible to achieve at that point and that it was necessary to finally let it go.

Levi, on the other hand, represents her reality. The reality she currently lives in is cruel and harsh. However, she can control what she does in it and what she makes of her life in the said reality. In other words, her reality is full of possibilities and various choices. This is in contrast to her dream of a life with Eren, which was impossible to attain. Furthermore, she only had two (2) choices as to what to do with the dream. It was either to keep holding on to it despite its impossibility or to let it go completely.

Thus, it can be said that Eren represents and symbolizes “what could have been”. Whereas, Levi represents “what could be”. Prescinding from this, there really is a good chance of Mikasa and Levi growing closer in the future.

Fandom Saturday, Chrono Cross part 2

So, in light of me replaying Chrono Cross tomorrow with @tuulikannel, I thought I'd do another one. This one is filled with spoilers! But don't worry, they aren't story related and are okay to read/spoil, I promise. Nope. Today, we're focusing on one of the best aspects of Chrono Cross, its replayability.

Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross were one of the first games, not the first mind you, that offered a New Game +. With Chrono Cross, you get two items when you restart the game. First, a nifty little trinket that lets you fast forward and slow down everything but the cut scenes. (Although, those can be skipped entirely, so it's okay.) Really helps speed things along, heheh. And the second item is the same item you need in order to fight the final boss of the game. Read that again and know everything that implies. That's right.

You can now beat the game whenever you want.

You keep your items, your elements, and your levels when you restart, and now you can face the final boss whenever you want. But here's the kicker, depending on when you beat the game in the storyline, you get different endings now.

And if you beat the game before doing anything else (that isn't required anyway, there's a few things that are required first, similar to but not the same as a "this is how you play the game" bit) you gain access to the development room where you get to talk to some of the "staff" that created the game. They explain the battle mechanics and the language mechanics (something I really think you'll appreciate, tuuli) and the music and other things that went into making the game. Some really cool stuff.

I'm really worried the remastered version won't have it, but from what I've read, everything should still be there and I sincerely hope it is.

There are a few other bonuses to playing through a second time as well. The most important thing you get to obtain is double the rare items. Every game has an "ultimate weapon" or "ultimate metal" that's needed to make said weapon. Chrono Cross is no different. However, you get up to 40+ playable characters with almost as many unique weapons and only so much of the rare metal. Well, not anymore with the second playthrough. 😀

Then there's another item that's quite unique, but I have to explain a certain character first. Still not a spoiler, I promise. At some point, a doppelganger joins your party. It can change into any creature it's fought before, but you get them later in the game so you can't get some of the earlier monsters and bosses. Or can you? And that's the special item. Anyone wearing the Forget-me-not-pot will remember any creatures they've defeated before so your doppelganger can transform into them once equipping said pot. And trust me, whether or not you use the character, knowing all the enemies is useful.

And the last bit with the New Game +, obtaining all the characters.

Now, at some points, you can make a choice to do one thing over another. Wanna break in through the front gate or sneak up the back? Save the girl or not? While not affecting the overall storyline, they do come with alterations to smaller arcs along with the consequences of gaining some characters over others. The choices could be as small as choosing whether A joins or not because if A joins, you get B later but C won't join anymore because he has beef with A. And you can't get B unless A is on your team. But... there's a way to get all of them.

When you replay the game, try making different choices. If done correctly, you need at least three playthroughs, but also only three playthroughs. And actually, if you make sure to do every choice differently every time, there's only one character you won't have by the end of the first two playthroughs because it was a three-way choice. Once you've obtained each character one way or another (this trick can also be done before you have all of them though) there's a place you go and a thing you look at and it pulls "your memories from other lifetimes" to gather your friends from alternate universes. (AKA accessing prior saves and collecting the characters you chose in other playthroughs. Maybe it's just me, but I feel like the depth behind that idea is just super cool.) I think you can only do it once in a single playthrough, but you can do it once every single playthrough.

And that's it!

I mean, there are a lot of cool things about this game, and while there aren't any hidden dungeons and ultimate bosses to track down and destroy, there's still a lot of things to be done. But my favorite thing about this game is how thought provoking it can be at times. If you ever play it and watch the opening, wait until you get to the opening screen and then just wait. After a while, the opening screen will disappear and you'll get to see something else. And despite how it looks, it contains no spoilers whatsoever. It's all about how you choose your own destiny and "what fate will you ultimately decide on?"

Just like before, highly recommend the game. Oh yeah, and you don't need to play Chrono Trigger first. 😏 You'll miss the references, but it doesn't really affect anything. If you've read Assassin Skills Required, it's essentially like reading that and meeting Stag and Deshi before reading their original story, Krystar. The storylines are completely unique from each other and while the references add another level of depth, it's perfectly fine to read one separately from the other. can i ask what's your ranking of the spe arcs? i know you did one before but i can't find it anymore, and your opinions may have changed since then.

I know I made one a long time ago, but... yeah. It's been a while, SS arc happened, BW2 finally finished, SM/USM also finished, so... here we go!

#1) DPPt This shouldn't be too much of a surprise. Favorite Dex Holder in a favorite region, but also featuring a peaceful friendly adventure through the region (for a lot of it) without the stress or the mess like in XY, or being rushed like in SS, which gives plenty of time for character development, thus allowing Platinum to warm up from a cold little bitch (hehe) to a sweet and adorable girl that she is now. I know that DP and Pt are listed as two different arcs, but I see no reason for that. Same region, same enemies, same plot, same protagonists, same month (Pt is like 2 weeks after DP), etc. SM and USM aren't separate arcs, right? That also has same region, same enemies, same plot, same protagonists, same bullsh*t, even though the time gap is much bigger.

#2) GSC This also shouldn't be too much of a surprise, given how Gold and Crystal were my top favorites for a while... a long time ago. My, how things have changed...

If I made another preference list, they'd have stumbled even further as Sword and Shield rose in rank... ahem. Anyways. If you've seen my Pokemon history post, you would've seen that GSC was the first arc I read from the start, and I only aborted it to start from RGB halfway through when I realized that GSC wasn't standalone. And I really enjoyed it. So much of the GSC arc preference and Gold/Crystal preference would be attributed to nostalgia.

#3) RGB In the same vein as above, the first arc that I actually finished would get the most amount of nostalgia. And having only seen Pokemon anime before, this was really refreshing... and shocking. And I loved it.

#4) FRLG While the plot of FRLG might be... ehn, I really liked the ending (hehe), and I also absolutely loved the evident character development for Blue. In fact, I actually didn't like Blue for the most part, but her preference skyrocketed after FRLG, and hasn't dipped since then. If anything, with the pairing shift, she rose even higher.

#5) RS While I absolutely enjoyed reading the RS arc normally the first time (instead of three non consecutive volumes in the wrong order in three different languages), the ending... was horsesh*t, and that just kind of ruined the lasting impression, thus the overall experience. Still though, compared to the other arcs...

#6) BW In the opposite vein, I didn't really enjoy much of BW. I really enjoyed bits and pieces of adorable Black & White moments, sure. But overall, meh. But... that ending. Hehehe... One of the best lasting impressions!

#7) SS Sure, it may be rushed. But I'm enjoying it. Maybe it's because I had non-existent expectations, and the first impressions for Sword and Shield were pretty bad. When expectations are very low, you can get pleasantly surprised!

#8) E It was a bit of a clusterf*ck near the end, but I remember enjoying it quite a bit until that point. So... yay. Also, compared to the other arcs...

#9) XY If you remember, I really didn't like X for a long time.

He was ranked #17 out of 20. While Y was ranked so high. So I really didn't like how things went on in the arc, especially near the end, when random ass appearances began to happen to fulfill the quota of showing everything at least once. So that was painful. The only reason why this arc is not further down is only because of the very end, and the fact that my second favorite Dex Holder exists.

#10) HGSS It was short and messy, but... better than the rest of the crap.

#11) Y I never liked Yellow, as you might suspect. I never liked the bullsh*t powers to begin with, so the arc where that occurred the most... blech.

#12) SM/USM Yes, I really like Moon. No, it's not nearly enough to save this mess. Also, whatever preference from Moon gets countered by Sun. And I think my dislike for Sun greatly outweighs my liking of Moon. So... yikes. There's a reason why Moon appears so much in my recent banters and short stories, while Sun is never mentioned.

#13) BW2 Yes, the arc is a total mess. It's somehow far too short while also taking way too f*cking long. Its only saving grace comes from the BW cast, and not the BW2. But hey, at least he's finally free, and this mess is also over.

Why You Should Watch CW: Nancy Drew

Now hear me out- if you’re reading this post, you’re either one of three people. 

1. You’ve already seen the show! So you can either skip this or read it to reminisce about the show

2. You don’t give a flying fig about this show and haven’t really interacted with it much

3. You’ve seen some stuff about the show, at least enough for you to decide it looks like crap 

Well, allow me to recount why this show is actually amazing and you should give it a chance/second chance :) (heheh since that’s...that’s yakno....second chance...okay im sorry) 

Preface:

Now, I was really skeptical about this show at first too, don’t get me wrong. When I heard it was going to be on the CW I was like “.....good luck with that.” I have watched a lot of CW back in the day and they are certainly deserving of their reputation. I saw the casting and I was like WHAT !?!??!!? 

When the trailer came out, like everyone else I was salty about the inclusion of ghosts/the supernatural and hoped this wasn’t just another Supernatural taking on the name of Nancy Drew. (I enjoyed the first few seasons of Supernatural but not after and also these are two very different stories)

However, the trailer was indeed intriguing and made me decide to give it a chance, despite it having that darker undertone. 

I watched the first episode, and while still a little skeptical, I was hooked. 

The Actual Show Content:

Writing:

The actual structure of the show is really well done. It has an overarching plot, in fact, several plots, two intertwined mysteries, as well as character and relationship development. There is a balance of answers given to the viewer over the course of the season, while still leaving questions to keep you intrigued so that it doesn’t get frustrating while also not revealing everything at once, so every reveal feels earned. 

The mysteries are also very well written, leaving clues along the way, that helped me solve what was going on but on the times I missed the clues I could re-watch and see what I missed. They are set up well in a way that the viewer can figure it out themselves, but not so much that it’s crazy obvious. And honestly making theories and predictions about this show is one of the many fun parts. The ending to the mystery is ultimately very satisfying which made me happy.

Sure, you have your classic CW relationship drama, but I think it was actually toned down for this show. There are a lot of changes, but the show has a very distinct feel to it, and I think ultimately holds the core feelings of what makes Nancy Drew such a special character. They have so many references to the books, and show so much care for the character’s lore and despite the changes, there were so many times I really felt I could see the original character coming out in them- it’s a different version, but honestly ever form of Nancy Drew media is different- this is just this specific version. 

Before I get into characters, I would like to mention the fact that while there is an additional element of the supernatural, it works really well for the plot and ..... no spoilers but I’m actually so glad they put it in. Despite the supernatural angle it still very much works as a mystery structure which is the most important thing to me.

Characters:

I love Nancy so much in this version. Kennedy McMann is what I think of when I think of what Nancy’s face looks like. She’s a lot colder than the Nancy I’m used to, but that’s understandable considering her circumstances- and I think you see her grow and open up over the course of the show. 

She IS Nancy though in my mind- her witty remarks, putting the case above her own well being, the breaking and entering, the clever tricks to find information, putting the pieces together, all that. And the emotion Kennedy is able to portray is amazing- this show made me cry. You really feel for Nancy. 

One of my favorite things about this show is the classic “I work alone” and a bunch of friends being like “do you now”. But it works so well as you see the group grow to trust each other and work together and care for one another. I am a SUCKER for found family stories and the Claw gang is wonderful. 

Bess is her usual bubbly self, probably the casting I was the most disappointed with, but the actress does a wonderful job. Her whole story is a lot different and she’s not George’s cousin, but the personality??? Is perfect. 

George is probably one of my favorite characters to come out of this show. Well... I love them all so much but she really sticks out to me. She had a completely different arc from what I was expecting and at first I was like “really...this is what they’re going for...” but honestly I think they really turned it around and.....I just love George and I care about her and want her to be happy. Also she does seem a bit different but she has that brash, kind of tough personality that I feel is classic George. :) 

Nick/Ned: I still forget to call this man Nick, but oh well. I love him. Probably one of the best actors on this show. He’s so sweet. Like so many times there are things he says and I’m like OMG THATS NED!!!!!!! Like one time they ask him what he found out from following someone and he just replies “that I don’t like following people.” Like tell me that’s not something Ned would say. He’s. He’s a great man. I would date him. He is a comforting soul.

Ace is a new character for the show that made me so confused I was wondering why he was here- but the Claw gang...Claw Crew would not be complete without him. He’s got some of the best lines and is basically this show’s version of Joe Hardy. He’s also really smart,,,,, and got some secrets but I’ll leave them for you to find out. ;) 

Also side note Carson is amazing and honestly perfect. On point. Very solid characterization. 

Anyways....I love this show. If you wanna try it out before season two comes later this month, it’s free to binge the full season on the CW website, or you could probably buy or rent it if you’re feeling boojee.

H e l l o again. Just wondering what's going to happen to crowley's character arc and where you're going with it. I know a lot of people didn't like how he progressed in the series. I dont know if it's too out there but like, having him do small hunts or something? Maybe the whole blood cure thing made him more sympathetic than he led on? I'm not entirely sure about what should have happened to him, but I do know he deserves better. (And to be loved!)

[Headcanon incoming! Crowley doesn't have many things that he can say he "loves", or at least as much as a demon can anyways. But his exception is his hellhounds, specifically juliet. She can tear apart a human in a minute, put fear into the bravest of the brave, and can growl low enough to shake the ground. She also loves belly rubs and scratches behind her ear. Crowley puts alot of time into making sure she's happy and well cared for. He really cares about her well being and will kill anyone, human, demon, or otherwise, who threatens to hurt her. Although she can fend for herself. Crowley's love of juliet came from his love of dogs when he was human. When his mother left he really only had one companion, a sheep herding dog that had wandered up to him and never left. He still thinks of the dog and the company it brought him when he was at such a low point.]

Hi! And YES. He very much deserved better. We won't let down him or Mark (Heller King). There will definitely be him on more hunts, and the Cas and Crowley dynamic will be played out more because it's literally so hilarious. I will fight for him having a better ending (or you know just not dying) and I know a bunch of other people will too. And yes I like that! We have some work to do on the lore of the blood cure thing because o_0 and also souls are o_0 and really just the whole thing is o_0 but we will be doing more with that and Crowley. As well as like. A reason. Explanation? Logic? (Maybe develop Crowley and Sam’s relationship more along with that?) 

And yes hehehe (please ignore me fangirling over a head canon it's not important.) Crowley and Juliet is my favorite thing ever and we will definitely being having fun with that. And wait ahhsjdhdidjkdjdjsj the backstory for it is so great ah. Thank you so much for this you just made my rather dull class 10x better.

The Simp, The Himbo, and The Bone Man (Chapter 65)

Let’s Talk About JSHK Manga #1

Warning: !!!Manga spoilers up to chapter 65!!! Duh.

Note: I don’t speak Japanese, and I’m using Nikko Scanlations’ translation of chapter 65. Props to them for translating so fast! There’s one mangacap from chapter 60 by Caim, and one from chapter 64 by Ropes of Fate. Ya know what, props to all JSHK fantranslators. Love y’all!

Ok so I read chapter 65 and then proceeded to get thrown on board SS Confusion.

Before we begin I gotta say I’m loving the faces we got in chapter 65. Thanks, sensei.

I wasn’t really surprised that we didn’t get to see hananene or akaoi this chapter. I mean, sensei just impaled my boy and last chapter was angst fest all around so naturally they’re gonna jump to comedy/something lighter in this one because … well, it’s JSHK.

Let’s get chronological.

The. Colored. Art. Is. So. Fricking. Gorgeous.

I love the whole thing with Kou worrying about his friends. Baby boy why you so wholesome can I hug him pLeAsE!

Yokoo and Satou are super cool as well! My baby Yokoo you outshine the morning sun, my son. It’s nice seeing more of them, caring about Kou no less. Gaaahhh the friendship fluff

Apparently this arc is going to delve into the whole ‘friends not telling each other things’. Exhibit A: Akane, Nene, and Aoi. Exhibit B: Satou and Yokoo and Kou.

Heck the tagline of this month’s colored art is ‘no one knows the real me’. Interesting development. I love me some friendship drama.

Yep. I’m loving where this chapter is going. Kou is feeling useless yet again. His brother is away who knows where, Akane is still lovesick insane, and Tsuchigomori won’t tell him the future. Not to mention that Hanako and Nene are missing. Kid’s literally on his own.

Until-

Ey yo Mitsuba how’re ya doin’? It’s very nice to see him caring about Kou, especially after what happened last arc.

And then the simp showed up. I love him.

(By the way isn’t his Raitejou still sealed? How is he conjuring those lightnings? Maybe he was just hitting that apparition with it?)

Finally! Kou meets his broadcasting club trio equivalent, and Natsuhiko meets his toilet trio equivalent. This is something I didn’t know I needed. Thank you sensei.

Now Natsuhiko’s definitely got something up his sleeve, from the way he seemed to prevent Mitsuba from telling Kou who he is (and most importantly, who he’s affiliated with).

Hm … Tsukasa wants No. 6, eh? Ohhh boy.

Mitsuba falling asleep right away lmaoooo. Look at these dumbasses.

And I can’t believe Kou fell for those ‘heroic stories’. Poor Hanako, his two best friends are (lovable) easily-tricked idiots hahaha. I mean, Kou is such a pure soul, bless him and his dog ears and tail. Thank you, sensei. You’ve fed us well.

Then … Bone Man. I actually call him Goat Man, but let’s just stick with Aoi’s lovely nickname (his name is Shinigami-san thoooo).

Interesting development. He be OP af man. The guy literally controls both life and death. Do NOT let that >60 year-old psycho child gets him.

I know it kinda seems like, oh, there’s the glaringly obvious answer to Nene’s lifespan problem. But as we know, there are prices to magic, and Bone Man doesn’t seem like the kind of guy to break the rules. I mean the dude wants to close off boundaries to keep the two shores completely separate, and is willing to sacrifice a girl to do it.

Yeeaaahhh … he’s a bit lawful evil imo, but we still don’t really know him yet, so. Eh.

Then Bone Man dropped this month’s bomb.

Did Nene, Akane, and Aoi just die? What freaking else can you call ‘body decaying, leaving the soul behind’ other than dying?

Not to mention not one (1) kannagi fell into the whole. TWO (2) kannagi fell into the whole, along with a dead boy and a soon-to-be-dead boy. Will that change the equation?

Speaking of dying, remember what Aoi said about No. 6? People who are about to die soon can hear No. 6′s flute? And Nene heard it?

Is this what ‘going to die in less than a year’ means for Nene? Thrown into a hole deep enough to the point of no return, a hole full of giant creepy bugs, her body decaying and leaving her soul behind, and thrown there by her own best friend no less?

This, this is wild.

But Hanako said in Misaki Stairs arc that nothing lives and nothing dies in the boundary. Is this an exception? Does the hole lead to a place outside the boundary? Is it a gate to the far shore (y’know, since there’s no returning from death unless No. 6 intervenes)?

And apparently Aoi falling there was ‘according to plan’? Hm … Aoi didn’t seem to know that the last time we saw her. She didn’t want Akane to drag her with him, remember? She could be lying, I guess. But Akane, Nene, and Hanako didn’t need to be sacrificed too. Maybe she was brainwashed not to care?

I know we all miss our monthly hananene, but be patient my friends! Sensei are working hard, and, well, this sort of thing comes with the whole monthly update format.

(Guys. Guys. Daydream arc is about 20 chapters long. Thats one year and eight months. It almost took two years to finish that arc. And seeing that this arc is a lot more plot driven than Daydream - which is more character driven imo - I’m kinda scared. Heh.)

Anyway! I enjoyed this chapter and all the dumbasseries featuring Natsuhiko, Kou, and Mitsuba. Really lifts the mood in this condition, ya know?
