I'll elaborate on the pokémon I choose for whoever is interested. I'll only mention the ones in the pic itself here, otherwise I'd get too long-winded. So, recap: Phoenix - Decidueye, Umbreon, Goodra Trucy - Hoopa, Eevee, Hydrapple (all her mons here) Miles - Gardevoir, Kingambit, Espeon, Dachsbun (Pess) Maya - Mismagius Franziska - Gallade Pearl - Clefairy Blackquill - Hisuian Braviary Klavier - Toxtricity Apollo - Skeledirge Athena - Rotom Ema - Reuniclus Nahyuta - Alolan Ninetales Kay - Greninja Sebastian - Politoed I've already explained Phoenix, Maya, Miles, and Trucy in previous posts (link here), so I'll focus on the others. Franziska's shiny Gallade: meant to contrast with Miles' Gardevoir. I imagine she pestered her father because she wanted a mon that was better than Miles' in every way, also she was jealous of Miles' (at the time) Kirlia. Pearl's Clefairy: mainly due to these pokedex entries: Its magical and cute appeal has many admirers. It is rare and found only in certain areas. Thought to live with others on quiet mountains, it is popular for its adorable nature. Also Pearl gives Fairy Tale Girl (the trainer class) vibes. Blackquill's Braviary: psychic type, Japanese inspired, resembles Taka. Also, Hisuian Braviary prefers to live alone instead of flocks like his Unovan counterpart. Klavier's Toxtricity: pretty obvious. Air guitar would actually make sense. Apollo's Skeledirge (SOJ SPOILERS here): initially I thought of Cinderace because of the bunny ears-like hair, but Skeledirge fits better. It's a singer - probably was his father's as a Fuecoco, and was there during the fire. Maybe Fuecoco was the one who took him to safety? Or protected him at least. Additionally, Fuecoco's head tufts resemble Apollo's hair. Also 'red pepper' pokémon as reference to Nahyuta's teasing. interesting pokédex entry: The valve in Crocalor's flame sac is closely connected to its vocal cords. This Pokémon utters a guttural cry as it spews flames every which way. Athena's Rotom: I think Metis had dozens of Rotoms helping her in her lab. One of them makes friends with Athena, so Metis choose it to be in Athena's pendant, in the same way Rotom Pokédex is given to the player in the games. Also, Widget is Rotom's nickname here. Ema's Reuniclus: she was probably fascinated by it as a little girl visiting a lab of some sort and begged Lana to get her one. Maaaaybe nicknamed it 'Blob'. Honestly I think most characters would give their mons nicknames but I would need to think about it more deeply to know what those would be. Nahyuta's shiny Ninetales: apart from the aesthetics, I would think ice types are pretty common in Khura'in. Also, fairy type with a mystical air to it that suits Nahyuta very well. Kay's Greninja: she had a cute Froakie as a little girl, gifted by her father. She has a Honchkrow as well but I would think it's inherited from her father and not her starter. Sebastian's Politoed because of this pokedex entry: The curled hair on Politoed's head is proof of its status as a king. It is said that the longer and more curled the hair, the more respect this Pokémon earns from its peers. Note that Sebastian's hair curl is deliberate on his part - according to head illustrator Iwamoto, Sebastian carefully styles his hair that way every morning. Also : the WAA's main partner pokémon are all Ghost types: Decidueye - Hoopa - Skeledirge - Rotom

This all started because I had this idea of Trucy asking Maya for some grand gift ideas for Phoenix, and Maya blabbed about that one time they made the choco Phoenix bust. Originally just a simple Wright - Edgeworth family piece, it escalated into being a ridiculous mess that took me something like 3 weeks to finish. ...I think? I lost track of time at some point in the madness. I suppose you can have fun counting all characters. Because I'm definitely not going to. I have even hidden some mons, so if you like spot-the-mon (?) games, you're welcome. Print version will come sometime in the future <3 Process pics under the cut.

As you might be able to discern I added further ridiculousness as I went. I don't think I've ever painted something quite so detailed ever. Definitely never so many characters at once. I even repainted Phoenix completely at some point. Honestly I probably will nitpick until the end of time, so I'll let it sit for a while before uploading the print on the print shop because I need fresh eyes to discern whether I need to make any adjustments and I definitely don't have eyes at all anymore now.

My animals make night noises

Sometimes it's okay. I used to require total silence to sleep - even the "so quiet I can hear it ringing in my ears" sound would keep me up. Later I learned to sleep with fans on, and when I got aquariums, the filters felt like a natural progression. My African dwarf frogs sing all night. It used to be just Archer, but tonight I heard a slightly squeakier, but just as loud singing. It could be Orgrimm over in his sick tank with Bumi, or it could be Froakie, who's getting more sexually active. (It could honestly be any of my males at this point. I can only tell Archer from the others because his voice is deeper.) And that's fine. It's become nice, soothing background noise, like the filters and my fan. You know what isn't nice? Or soothing? Luna and Apollo running around like maniacs at 3am. Luna and her OCD litter box tendencies, where she has to bury her poop SO HARD that she'd rip the bottom of the box up to put over the poop if she could. Luna going in the trash and eating tampon wrappers because they make cool crinkle sounds. Apollo washing his feet in the water dish because he's too good to lick them after going potty. Luna being OCD about Apollo's poop. I love these little fuckers to death but guys. Do you really need to do all your noises at once? At 3am? Can't you just go to sleep??
