They followed him because of fear of what happens to them if they do not follow. Tokugawa Ieyasu had to kill his own wife and son, just to prove his loyalty to Oda for fear Oda would invade his territory.

Oda invade Iga as he suspect they are allies to Mori, the most powerful clan that poses a threat to Oda. Mori knows Oda uses the Shogun, Ashikaga Yoshiaki, as a puppet for his own conquest.

When Oda no longer needs the Shogun and overthrow him, he ran to the Mori. Oda send Hideyoshi and Akechi to invade Mori but Akechi betrays Oda because he knows Oda abuses the Shogun's power.

Iga later followed Ieyasu. Iga ninja like Hattori Hanzo protect Ieyasu on his way back to his territory after the death of Oda. Since then, Iga ninja serves Ieyasu, as they know him to be a better ruler.

I like how smart Yasuke is in answering. He knows what to say and what Oda wants to hear. Unlike Akechi who tend to say things straight, that it agitates Oda into abusing him on several occasions.

The more you know history, the more everything falls into place.
