In 3rd grade (1989 or so), my G&T class were given an assignment to each do a presentation on an animal whose name started with a letter assigned by the teacher. There were only like 9 of us but I ended up with X. (In retrospect I figure this was because our teacher knew I was an incorrigible animal nerd who loved a challenge.)

So I hit the books—yes, the actual physical books—and in the encyclopedia volume containing X I struck gold: I learned of the existence of Xenopeltis unicolor, the sunbeam snake, and it instantly became my favorite reptile.

It still is today.

And as of earlier this month, I have realized yet another childhood dream and obtained a sunbeam snake of my very own.

This is Aurora. She's very docile. Her scales feel kind of like pleather. And photos do not do justice to how intense and vibrant her iridescence is in person.

I am a happy Wyrm.

Clytie was a nymph in Greek mythology who, because of her unrequited love for the sun god, Helios, was turned into a sunflower, which was believed to follow the course of the sun.

The Sun is the 19th card of the Major Arcana of the Tarot. It is often thought to signify vitality, optimism, and playfulness.

Wings au, but:

Wings only manifest if you're liminal (they are thought to always exist, but only reveal themselves after an NDE/equivalent liminality trigger)

Wings are only visible to other liminals

Arent really functional so much as a representation of the soul, and not corporeal, just visual. Arent really set in stone either, they can evolve as the character develops, and might start out with strong influence of the triggering event that revealed them.

Can be a wide variety of things that could only be described as wings in the broadest sense

Not really any such thing as secret identities among liminals because of them

Liminality is extremely broad, so it covers most of the league and a small percentage (like 1-2% at most) of the civilian population

Different individuals:

Danny: a shadow void that shows a perfect view of space in the direction you're looking into it (but initially started as nondescript mass of light that matched his transformation rings)

Dani: an aurora, constantly moving and shifting, started out very ecto-green, shifted to more natural aurora colors over time

Batman: a cloak of shadow that occasionally takes the shape of bat wings

Jason: flaming phoenix wings, obviously (shape matches an eagle or condor, have remained pretty consistent, though they started more smoldery and are currently more flamy, flame is green when under effects of pit rage)

Poison ivy: "fairy" wings, actually look like giant leaves/flower petals, always appropriately seasonal

Superman: they look like solar coronal loops of plasma

Valerie: match the vibes of her nanosuit, might even be floaty and detached

Jazz: perfect white angel wings, very floofy (people mistake her for soft, then learn why angels are traditionally feared)

Cass: perfect angel wings, but black and obviously swan shaped

Damian: metallic wings where the feathers are each a blade, have gone from jagged to more sleek after moving in with bruce

Duke: sunbeams that trail like a regal cloak

Selina: has a proper cat tail instead of "wings"

Your post about people rehashing the same characters/concepts for MAPS spoke to me. I have a lot of characters and MAP ideas I'd love to see, but I myself don't really have the means to animate, so I thought I'd leave this ask with my ideas and see if they speak to anyone else out there or if you think they would be fun :) General characters I think could be added to the list that need more love I did not see on your post: Purdy's life story, Mudfur's warrior and medic life, Willowshine, Spotfur's story, Mousewhisker, Runningnose, Harestar, Lightleap and/or Pouncestep, Post-Scourge Bloodclan with Fury, Whistlepaw/breeze, Spiresight and Shadowsight's relationship, Rosepetal (Daisy's youngest daughter and mentor of many), Ratscar (DF trainee who's apprentice died in the great battle yet joined the Kin?, great material there), Some cats from the Code of the Clans stories such as Graywing (the RC Medic) and Mossfire vs Jumpfoot of ShC?, Palebird (Tallstar's mom) and her story of grief and regrowth + new mate Hickorynose, Boulder and Russetfur (from rogues to Tigerstar followers to proper ShC cats), The Sisters + Moonlight and they hardship they faced because of the Clans (maybe even an AU involving Leafpool as she died protecting them), Nightpelt/star (ShC) and his rebellion of Elders (would love more stuff about his relationship with Starclan too), Monkeystar and Warriorclan, The contrasts between Greystripe and Darkstripe leading to their final fight/the latters death. A map about the whole family connection between Duskfur, Podlight and Curlfeather, Frostpaw/dawn, Splashtail, etc. Podlight and Harelight as Splashtail's biggest followers (one to end up not exiled somehow and the other to die), Splashtail and Frostpaw/dawn's big battle, Berryheart and Sunbeam + their family and fallout, Stormclan (maybe to save after their novella!), Some specific ideas I have: Aurora - Silhouettes There are very few Snowtuft videos, and what ones there are center around Snowkit.. I think this song fits him very well! The MAP would center around his time in the dark forest and in the reflections of cracked trees or water you can see the different animators hcs for Snowtuft's past in Shadowclan done in a paper-y black/white silhouette style. His longing for finding meaning as he slowly comes to accept that the Dark Forest is the home he'll ever know, as at some point there must have been a time where Snowtuft was losing parts of himself, a truly horrific thing to imagine..

Judy Collins - Send In The Clowns Petunia is the Medic of Warriorclan with such a sad past, someone who loved her human to death and has such a good heart. Now who uses that heart to care for the cats of Warriorclan. Her story spoke to me on such an emotional level I'm surprised I've seen no content of her! I think this soft song would go fantastic on a Petunia-focused map with her human, her grief as her elderly housefolk declines, meeting her friends, and ending with her leaving her home to join Warriorclan as their Medic. The Paper Kites - Willow Tree March Nightpelt (ShC) living through Brokenstar's reign, from the battles against Windclan, trying to survive Leafbare with the other Elders, grappling with his disability, the horrors of War and Tyranny as he sees the apprentice he tried to train into a good warrior destroy the clan he loves. Ends in the battle of ShC vs TC and the Elders chase Brokenstar out with Nightpelt left with pick up the pieces of his home.

No notes these are all great ideas! It’s crazy to me that despite this series’ giant cast we still mainly get maps around the same handful of characters, there’s soo many backstories/relationships/storylines to explore!

The Two Most Iconic Wheel Standers of All Time.

Hurst Hemi Under Glass

Hurst Hemi Under Glass is the name given to a series of exhibition drag racing cars campaigned by Hurst Performance between 1965 and 1970 across North America and ended with the '68 model year.

Each wheelstander was based on the current Plymouth Barracuda for the corresponding model year. The car was so named because the fuel injected Chrysler Hemi engine was placed under the Barracuda's exceptionally large rear window. The result of the rearward weight transfer was a "wheelie" down the length of the drag strip.

The Hemi Under Glass was developed by Hurst Corporation to showcase their products in the A/FX class - precursor to funny cars. In 1965, George Hurst hired Wild Bill Shrewsberry of Mansfield, OH, an accomplished drag racer who had raced for both Mickey Thompson and Jack Chrisman. After helping to pioneer it into the first wheelstanding exhibition car, Shrewsberry left at the end of the season to pursue his own project.

For the 1966 season, Bob Riggle, who was also from Mansfield, OH and was involved with Hurst as a mechanic and fabricator became the second driver of the Hurst Hemi Under Glass car and campaigned the cars with Hurst as the sponsor until later years when the Hurst Company was sold to Sunbeam. At that point, the car ran without the Hurst logo and was simply known as the "Hemi Under Glass." Riggle's career ended in 1975 with a devastating accident at US 30 Dragway in Gary, Indiana.

Popular model kits of the car were produced in 1/32 scale by Aurora Plastics Corporation and in 1/25 scale by Model Products Corporation. A limited edition 1/18 scale diecast model of the 1966 car is currently available from Highway 61.[1]

Riggle returned to exhibition racing in 1992 with a 1966 injected version of the car and a 1968 supercharged version of the car.[2] The original 1965 car was stripped for its power train and parts in 1967 for the new Barracuda chassis/body style and no longer exists.[3][4]

While taping the June 26, 2016 episode of Jay Leno's Garage, Riggle, with Leno riding in the passenger seat, rolled a newly constructed '69 version of the Hemi Under Glass after turning sharply at the end of a wheelie run. Neither of the men were hurt, but the car sustained significant damage.[5] Leno was riding along to fulfill another item on his 'Bucket List.'

July, 2016, Mike Mantel of New Braunfels, TX was named as the new driver of the Hemi Under Glass. Mantel took over the '68 car which has the longest performing history of any Hemi Under Glass ever constructed and becomes the third official driver in the brand's 50+ year history.[6] Mantel was only 6 years old when the Hemi Under Glass first took to the track. He has a wide range of driving experience from drag cars, road race, and movie cars. Mantel's original hometown is the city of Hawthorne, CA.

Billy Lawrence Golden (December 31, 1933 – September 14, 2015),[1] nicknamed "Maverick", was an American drag racer. He is probably best known for driving the Little Red Wagon A/FX wheelstander pickup exhibition racer.

Little Red Wagon

Born in Shawnee Township, Illinois, Golden joined the US Marines and first became interested in drag racing while at Camp Pendleton.

Golden was given his "Maverick" nickname in the late 1950s by an announcer at a Southern California dragstrip, because he chose to drive an unconventional 361 cu in (5,920 cc)-powered Dodge Custom Royal. He started racing in AHRA Super Stock, driving Dodges for several years. He was one of the first drivers in AHRA S/S to successfully run an automatic transmission. In 1960, Chrysler offered to provide him parts, when he was driving a Dodge Phoenix, powered by a 330 hp (250 kW) 330 cu in (5.4 L) with twin Carter carburetors and cross-ram intake manifold; the car was capable of quarter-mile times of 13.7 seconds.

By 1962, he was a factory driver, driving an S/SA Dodge. At the 1962 AHRA Winternationals, driving his bright yellow hemi "Taxi Cab" Dodge 330, he scored a "stunning" victory over "Dyno Don" Nicholson's 409 cu in (6,700 cc) factory Chevrolet at Fontana Drag City, to take the Stock Eliminator title, Chrysler's only Nationals win for 1962.

In 1963, Golden worked with Jim Nelson of Dragmasters to improve the car, and won seven Super Stock races out of eight events, taking the Midwest Championship.

At the end of the 1964 season, Chrysler proposed Golden drive the Little Red Wagon A/FX pickup. which became drag racing's first wheelstanding truck.

Little Red Wagon's first outing, at the AHRA Grand American event at Lions Drag Strip, was an 11 second pass at 120 mph (190 km/h). The crowd's very enthusiastic reaction prompted Golden to turn the A/FX truck into a wheelstanding exhibition racer, which he developed a steering mechanism for himself, relying on experience from his day job at Douglas Aircraft Corporation. The wheelstander was wrecked in 1969, 1971, and 1975; the third crash was nearly fatal to Golden.

Golden retired in 2003. He died on September 14, 2015.[3]

By the time the Aurora crashed 4546B must’ve been some kind of strange anomaly to anybody at home interested enough in space to do deepdives, like a kind of creepypasta or unexplained mystery.

I mean we by that point already have 3 crashed ships, if not 4, the Mercury II, the Degasi, The Aurora and the Sunbeam.

And those are only the ones we know of because either the remnants of the ships are still visible or we get audio logs detailing of them, there are probably dozens of more ships in the crash zone, which covers the remaining 90% of the planets surface so it’s not hard to believe. Especially with just how little space sector 0 and the crater actually cover compared to the sheer amount of documented ships there.

Humans have been able to travel to this planets distance for centuries judging by the Mercury II. So it’s probably turned into some kind of captains tale, the planet around wich ships just mysteriously go missing, the cases never resolved as any ships that dared to follow met a similar fate, no matter the size or importance of the vessel. Because the missing persons cases are always documented, as we know from the Aurora actively making a detour to search for the missing degasi members, maybe not publically, but word would definitely get out and be twisted into some form of folktale I bet.

Groups of People and entire ships disappearing the second they come too close to the planets atmosphere, and have been for what appears to have been, again, centuries.

I mean only accounting for the ships we know of in game the missing persons cases are already in the hundreds, now think about how many ships we don’t even know about.

I mean clearly alterra and the other transgovs know of 4546Bs existence, and the missing persons cases around the planet, they just never bothered or as far as I can tell made it public knowledge. But on the other hand it’s not like it was a top secret, I think anybody in universe that would’ve done some digging would’ve probably been met with the subnautica equivalent of true crime / drama / conspiracy theory YouTube channels reporting on “the mystery surrounding Planet 4546B” or something haha.

Just some food for thought. Maybe somebody wants to use this for world building or some specific scene in like a fanfic or something. I just thought it would be fun to think about.

Some light ghoul world building!

Quintessence ghouls were highly found in darkened areas; caves, low-light forestries, or underground tunnels. This helped advance their magick and provided constant areas for any rituals or casts if needed. Because of this, however, their appearances are compared to corpses. Their colors stay cool; purples, greys, or even white. Their bodies don't produce melanin but if it does, it causes vitiligo! (Phantom :D). They're also notorious for having bad eye sight, and have "dead fish eyes", and can't handle being out in sunlight for long. Because of this, it was extremely rare to find a traveling healer or one willing to travel alone. Paws or hooves!

Air and Fire ghouls are more darker in color than other elements but still a wide variety, as they receive the most UV and heat, so their bodies produce more melanin. However, airs are more likely to be albino due to their climate and having the mutated gene. Fire ghouls have thinner hair than others, mimicking Devon rex cat breeds. Air ghouls are mainly covered in feathers rather than furs. While many believe fire ghouls to be the most aggressive, it's actually airs. They're more territorial, especially when it comes to mates. Air ghouls have talons, while Fire mimick canine or feline paws.

Water ghouls have the highest diversity as it all depends on their DNA and where they live. Freshwaters are more likely to be grey/brown/black/purple/darker tones. While Oceanics are more likely to be brighter, and borderline neon in some instances. However, their bioluminescence is the same hue. They don't have the ability to grow fur or body hair besides light peach fuzz. Some waters can have whiskers or more leviathan-descendants ghouls can have water moss. It's an ongoing joke that waters are the rabbits of the pits, but it's honestly true! Severely aggressive to other waters that aren't from the same territory, so requires slow introductions. They have webbed feet!

Earths are more neutral toned! Brown/deep browns/black/grey/tan/some deep green. This is mainly because of camouflage and needing to hide for hunts and survival. Some earths have the ability to cover themselves in patches of moss or even sprout tree limbs/leaves to hide in unconventional places. Their legs can easily be confused for bark depending if they have this ability or not bc of texture. Have the best eye sight and are known as silent killers as prey can't hear them until it's too late, it is also extremely rare for earths to attack other ghouls unless provoked. They weigh extremely heavy more than they appear. Very community based and more likely to take in orphans/strays of other elements. They have hooves!

Multi-Elements usually deprive from a single element, or have started a new line of evolution. Swiss falls under a quintessence line but is considered a "cluster" due to each element being more fragile. Aurora falls under a quintessence with a stronger water secondary, others as a "cluster." Sunshine is a direct air ghoul and a new line of evolution of Light, giving her the ability to manipulate light and sunbeams. Swiss and Aurora's features are very mixed and diverse (Swiss with talons but a quint tail, Rory with quint paws but air horns, etc), while Sunny seems to have slow evolving fire traits despite only being an air ghoulette (light fur over feathers and a sharper tail.)
