#BASIC progamming

Further on this note? I discovered this free PDF archive of '80s titles via one YouTuber who I seriously doubt was there for the first round. (Really really retro computing?)
There's a lot more there. But, another well worth checking out from her:
youtube
Were Magazine Type-In Games Really That Bad? // Coding Again Like It's The 80s
Because yeah, that was a thing too. And particularly big on the magazines in the UK, from what I understand. You could totally buy whole books and magazines full of BASIC code, and type in your "own" exceedingly basic software that way.
"You want some games, kid? Well, HERE are multiple games! Knock yourself out! 🥳"
Of course, it was also a pretty good way of learning how things worked, and a launching-off point.
At least one of the books Stepdad-To-Be (working programmer for most of the '70s) set me down with, way back when, was all BASIC office programs. 🤣 I guess he also hoped the hyper little shit would code monkey some of the boring work into the keyboard for him, while also keeping me out of whatever hair he had left. I did prefer the semi-DIY games, but I was surprisingly game for that anyway. I may not have cared much about simple databases or whatever, but the process still held my attention for a good while.
(Come to think of it, dude also set me to debugging some C++ stuff of his like 20 years later. Did/do I really know C++? NOPE. Did I try anyway? Of course. It was a challenge. He obviously knew me to that extent.)
I never did get into that in a way that I could potentially profit off of down the road, unlike a good number of folks I know. Including the one I live with. (Who ISTR was one of the many Gen X Europeans with ZX Spectrum as the on ramp.) I just seem to stay in perpetual Tinkering Dumbass mode with...so many things. ¯\_ (ツ)_/¯ I'll hyperfixate and pick up enough to hopefully accomplish my immediate goals, then I'm onto something else. Just seems to be how I'm wired, always like it or not.
But, especially since I have been fooling around with C-64 emulation again lately? I thought I might also get back to my roots in another way, and set myself down for some tedious "fun" with at least one of those BASIC game book PDF reprints.
Not only has it been a frightening number of years? Usborne is a very British publisher, and all their necroed titles are new to me. Or at least I don't remember any of the ones they have up.
I thought maybe somebody else here might be interested in some retro computer book perusal as well.

The toon are unable to have a different personality then what they have in the show
They were created with thier cartoon personality to be in character and if they try hard enough to change example: Boxten trys to get over his anxiety about most stuff he would be unable to
Basically Shrimpo is always mad and will never callm down like i said Boxten is always anxious umm who else Dazzle is always gloomy ect.
And Vee an important part of her character was she wasn't progamed with certain emotions and her story ark was to learn about them so in character she is able to slightly change aka learning about how the other toons feel

What’s a conditioned system?
From this website
TW: Mentions of RAMCOA/OEA/Organized abuse.
Understanding Conditioning
Classical conditioning is the association between a behavior and an unrelated stimulus, such as a flashing light, a “harmless” or common trigger word, a color, or more. Abusers can use these stimuli to signal when they want a specific part to come out or to trigger specific programs within a victim.
Operant conditioning is the association between a behavior and its consequences. For example, a frightened child who is abused anytime she asks her father for help will stop asking her father for help, as she now assoiciates this behavior with punishment. A hungry child who is rewarded with food every time he is abused will learn to wait for abuse, as he now associates surviving the abuse with positive recinforcement. Programmers use punishment and reinforcement to discourage behaviors that imply resistance and encourage behaviors that indicate compliance.
Mod G
Basically, a conditioned system Is someone who went through organized abuse and was conditioned as explained above, but was not progammed.

Stranger Things'd your In Space with Markiplier Trailer
[PLEASE TURN ON AUDIO TO HEAR WHAT I MEAN]
So uh
Yeah
I may or may not have done a thing
So y'see- I had some free time in my Digital Media class the other day, and on the computers on there they had Premiere Pro, a progam I'm starting to learn, but now pretty know just the bare basics of.
So, with that knowledge, I decided to, reasonably, inact on an idea I had for a w h i l e which included getting the trailer In Space with Markiplier and putting the trailer music for Stranger Things 4 (Separate Ways) over it after finding out how incredibly well they worked together.
And so here we are-
I know it's not perfect, again just started learning how to use PremierePro, and a few places had to really squeeze/stretch it out to fit with the music, but I think I'm pretty happy with the end result!
Part of me is really satisfied to finally have this idea of mine put out, and ey! Who knows? Maybe I'll try this again one day with other trailers and trailer songs...already starting to get a few ideas...
But anyhoo till then, if you excuse me I'll let some brainrot consume me again, and hopefully with this trailer edit, it'll get to you again t o o -
#oh lord here i go again#slowly being dragged back into my ISWM brainrot#here we gooooOOO-#but honestly just hoping ya guys like it too!#here's to everyone in the fandom getting a nice ol' reminder of the ISWM trailer#...#which is kinda redundant#don't think we need much of a reminder after Mark watched the trailer o v e r 1 0 0 t i m e s -#but hey y a n e v e r k n o w -#markiplier#in space with markiplier#iswm#stranger things#stranger things 4#trailer#re-edit#eyesore's video

Ok, this time its a little vent post, my friend from school known as Cosmic (in discord + minecraft) offered me to join a certain minecraft server of the CNMC (a minecraft server with some mods where in this server theres countries and its a roleplay thing and its basically politics + minecraft but in a fun way), i joined his country (Avarinthia) in Friday & it was pretty fun, i enjoyed there with the people and all but things became less fun when i realised the dark things im there, it all started when Cosmic got banned because people claimed he is transphobic, and its not true, i know Cosmic in real life and im trans myself and he never said something transphobic to me, in fact he’s my friend and a real friend, and then in sunday i think i asked him details about him out of curiosity and our friend, also known as “Progamer”, said that he was also there once but then he left, then 10 minutes before the math lesson i asked him why he left and he said that there were 2 people, who are also around age 26, named Kai & Mattie were saying a lot of perverted things, and Cosmic, me and Progamer are fucking minors, and he also told me another thing that we all hated about them but thats a real life politics thing so i won’t explain on it, basically all this 10 minutes we said bad words behind Kai & Mattie’s back & then when the lesson started we stopped & tried to focus on the lesson, but I couldn’t help but be bothered by it, these 2 guys claim that Cosmic is transphobic & make such a big deal from something he not truly is and who does more terrible things? THEM, KAI & MATTIE, like, perverted stuff may not bother me & may not bother cosmic & progamer when i joke about it in school but when 2 fucking adults do that its surely uncomfortable, why does Cosmic gets banned for something untrue & they don’t get banned for something bad that they did?! But please don’t start harassing Kai & Mattie if you come across them, it won’t help

so the bugs r actually like organisms?? creachurs? thats so neat... so theres chip implants like with ishawuu and bug implants?
Theure all bugs !! I sometimes say chips I think bcs like. wayy easier for ppl to get when I say that AJJGHJJE.
The bugs are these cockroach-like ithings that were discovered while some nuclewr bombs were being tested on an uninhabited island. These bugs were entirely uneffected by the bombs or radiation, and upon further investigation certain subsects of them coild survive different things- extremely high temperatures, extremelt low ones, being crushed, etc etc. This was around the time that the ppl working on Koro learned that it needed human brains to continue functioning, so there were a tonnnn of biotechnology progams being pushed.
One group ended up finding that the bugs can metamorphosis and attach to living beings, which then grant them aspects of their "power"- so like superstrength, higher speed, reaction time increase, better immune systems, etc. ALL sorts of things- but in exchanhe they would eat at the host and eventually kill them. BUT through yearsss of research and A Lot of dead test subjects they ended up finding a way to force a metamorphosis and install the bugs into humans in certain areas of the body to give a symbiotic relationship- the bug takes a liiitle bit of the host, but not emough to kill them, and the host gets the powers !!
The areas they have to be installed are different for each bug. So radiation bugs need to attach to the heart, agility/speed to the spinal cord, strength ones are actually interesring bcs you need TWO bugs- one to attach to the medulla and the other into the hypothalamus. All the surgeries are dangerous but as one can assume that one has a particularly high mortality rate.
Cellres bugs (what Ishawuu and Yoki have) were particularly hard to make, since firstly it was rlly hard to physically alter the bugs. I mean since each one has the power that it grants, you cant really. put hardware into a bug that heals instantly. BUT THEY DID !! What they discobered was that by literally shitting off the brain, the healing factor paused and they were able to adjust the bugs.
Naturally this was a rlly difficult process and a lot of the bugs died, so there were only a total of 50 people who got the bugs, and iirc like 32 who survived the inital installation? There were two groups, the test subjects n the ppl who theu Actually wanted to have the bugs. 30 test subjects made up of willing volunteers who, in exchange for getting a cellres chip, would serve Koro for like. the rest of time basically. Most of them were terminally ill patients or criminals w/ life sentences or on death row. Someeee of them, such as Ishawuu, already worked for Koro and wanted a chance at immortality- Ishawuu specificallt was super fucked up abt dying and also bcs she was a suuuper low rank despite giving literally everything she had to Koro, so she thought that is she put her life on the line as a test subject she wld be promoted
The second group of 20 ppl were high ranked Koro officials like Yoki, and they wouldnt get the bug until the test subjects had. yknow. been tested on.
Cellres bugs have to be put on the nape of the neck, if u feel that little bump from ur spine its just above that

What do you use when you draw? An iPad or a drawing pad? Can you also show us your rivamika collection 😊😊😊
Hello, thanks for asking. <3
The device I use is a Samsung galaxy tab S7 (basically just a tablet) the progam I use to draw is Sketchbook and Ibis paint. mostly Ibis paint, because I don't use sketchbook that much anymore as it's very limiting. and I actually like adding more and experimenting my digital works now. so yeah lol.
I am not sure what you mean by 'Rivamika Collection' but I assume it's about my Rivamika works. I think with just one quick scroll through my profile, all of it is already there, on full display for all to see. I do plan on maybe making a Rivamika art portfolio to organize my Rivamika works and my usual art and stuff for good shits and giggles. but I have not yet to know how to do that digitially yet. but if I do, I'll post it. for now, everything is just a big dump and I am content with the way it is. pfft-
thanks for the question, Anon.
here's this quickie to chew on:

If it’s not too much, can u pls tell me how does it feel like to be a law student? Having a rough time picking majors for next year ;-;
Thank you!
not too much at all! obviously my word is not the end all be all but i can tell you what my experience has been so far.
law school is hard, but it also isn't. it's a crapton of reading, first off. one class could give you fifty pages of reading that need to be read by the next day. professors will post a syllabus/schedule so you can try and read ahead and you might for a while, but it's impossible to be on top of everything all the time. i've already seen breakdowns and had breakdowns, and i've been in law school for all of (checks watch) two and a half months. since classes grade pretty much only on final exams and maybe midterms, anyone like me who relied on always getting their homework done on time and participation to keep their grades up will be miserable.
you need to carve out time. a lot of time. you may think it'll take you two hours to do one reading—it'll take four hours at least. but if you give yourself that time, for reading, for studying, for practice questions, you'll stay above the surface. your social life is gonna die a little. not as terribly as i imagine med students' lives do, but you can't see your friends every week. you can't spend time with your family every week. you can't indulge in your hobbies every week.
extracurriculars are....also not the same as undergrad. there's no joining theatre club or creative writing or anime club as a way to destress after classes and turn your mind off from your studies. every club is a law society of sorts and they all do pretty much the same thing—if they're a diversity group of some kind, they'll plan things around that identity (i've seen henna+study! and destress+dragbingo! events from the south asian and gay straight alliance law societies respectively). they'll offer outlines from students who have already taken the classes you're taking. they'll give you an idea of how it feels to be an upperclassman and good advice on what to do to survive your first year (and their advice helps a lot more than teachers). mostly every club requires dues. the big clubs are any advocacy progams, like mock trial or moot court, and if you compete in those your life will get harder because you do have to put in the work to succeed in those competitions.
i have terrible adhd, executive dysfunction, procrastination problems, focusing issues, whatever you wanna call it. i'm writing this in class right now. i usually can't focus in class and have to do most of my learning outside of it. the reading IS important. what's also important is looking at outlines made by people who took the same class AND had the same teacher. doing practice problems, talking to at least one other classmate to try and understand things (study "groups" are a little overhyped, they're not as deadly necessary as everyone says they are. just have at least one person in every class that you can confer and sit down with sometimes.)
law students are pretentious! unfortunately. i'm not in a super diverse area, so i'm one of four or five south asian girls in my section of `70 people. many people talk like they are god's gift to the world. and many people don't and are completely chill. everyone is struggling, though. everyone has a weak spot and everyone seems to some extent have imposter syndrome. if you do get into law school, you gotta remember you got in. on your own merits. no one is smarter or dumber than you, just different.
classes themselves are interesting. your first year your classes are decided for you so you can take all the basic classes you need to study more advanced stuff. and things will surprise you. i thought civil procedure just by its name sounded incredibly boring. but it's not! i wouldn't pursue a career in it, but seeing cases succeed or fail based on technicalities and guidelines is fasinating to me. your legal writing class will make you do research on things you don't know about, and suddenly you're kind of an authority on them! (don't debate a lawyer, but, y'know, throw some big words around your friends and family.)
it feels so good when things click. when you've studied for two hours and suddenly you figure this shit out, it's like a whole new world just opened up for you. it's incredibly satisfying to answer questions correctly. don't worry about memorization as much as you should worry about understanding, exams can be open book and if they're not professors will know they're not and will not make them rely just on your memory.
SO. all in all. law school is tough, much tougher than undergrad, everyone around you knows it's tough, and if you think you can do hours of reading at a time, write in a way you've never written before (cite. after. every. assertion.) and isolate yourself away from everything and everyone to focus on your studies, then go for it. don't think it's for super super smart people, it's not. don't think you need to know the law or the constitution or anything to apply, you don't. if you're a fan or argument, or persuasion, or even etymology, you could do really well at law school.
feel free to ask me anything else about it!

My new tablet arrived today. It gave me a scare at first because it said it wasn't charged after two hours, but once I removed the cable to try another, it suddenly was on 100 %... must have been a visual glitch. Anyway, I did what I could and had the mood to today, but I will finish it tomorrow. I already have my writing progam and am logged into my AO3 account. I also logged the tablet into my Onedrive so I can work on my fics between platforms. Now let's see if the tablet is actually okay. All I want to use it for is writing and the internet (mostly AO3 and tumblr), so I guess it should be fine. It certainly is a low price class with only having cost 300 €, but I don't need a 1k machine for what is basically a fanfiction reading and writing machine.

i am coming off anon so i can send a link but also ur love for this has made me confident enough to bc i am never confident in my ideas at first lmao! BUT i have so many random moments of this au in my head like: dan and phil teaching their niece how to skate together, dan working as a commentator for future olympics and world championships because he would be so so good at that, one of the skaters they coach winning a gold medal and them crying like it was them who won bc they are so happy for their skater, them trying to do ice dance together (basically slow dancing on ice - phil cannot slow dance on solid ground to save his like but hes good at ice dancing!!!), them doing something like this (https://youtu.be/4IDcsav-rag?si=n5Cm0tny7dIyZDvh&t=92) on one of the tours where dan plays the progam music on the piano on ice while phil skates to it., dan composing program music. anyway i could talk about this au for literal hours
WAIT OMG HIIIIII!!! Teaching their niece how to skate together oh thats so fucking sweet.... dan as a commentator is actually such a good take i really am so obsessed with that. he WOULD be good at it and have a lot of opinions and i think i can see him being one of those commentators that between breaks goes off on tangents about the craft but is like very enthusiastic while doing live commentary (i dont know if thats how skating competitions work let me know if they dont do live commentary like that). PERON THEY COACH WINNING GOLD.......... I could wail. I think it's so cute that they could form that sort of community espec after the whole scandal of them being like we're dating by the way and them just being like these really positive forces in the world of ice skating.
just watched the video and first of all thats incredible but also YES yes yes yes i see the phan vision ohhhhhh my God. im literally sat envisioning love eyes lester in moments between phil skating to dan's piano playing............... God. YEAH
This au is everything you have me sold on it you know this now. such a fan of everything about this its so sweet :(

Michigan Ren Faire 2024
This was a fun adventure! I lowkey went a bit wild, but, eh, I'm really okay with that.
I sat and watched a show, do not know what it was but it was a great way to start the morning. There was African chanting and dancing and they asked me to learn the dance but ma'am, I am in a corset and also if too many people look at me I will shut down like a sims servo that got exposed to the rain, no thank you ETA - It was the Djobi Wake Up Spirit Ensemble, very rad, would go again.
I got to meet THREE dogs! THREE whole dogs! They let dogs in! It's the best thing, ever, I love it, I love it so much! 2 were farm dogs that were having a fun day out, Waffle & Pancake, and my gosh! Then there was the handsome Aulucard, very majestic, very gigantic shy boy, I adore him, his person was very nice as well.
I bought pretty things!! I got an Ocarina, puzzle ring, lil hair sticky things, business cards, and pins!
I wish there had been better food but maybe I didn't look hard enough because sometimes I just get overwhelmed and glance at the nearest booth and go "good enough, keep standing here like you know what you're doing, good job, nailed it!" ETA - I should have read my progam better.
One other thing I wish there had been, a program of what shows were at what stages, or maybe my program was missing that insert or something, but that would have been nice ETA - ... Again, I should have read my program better, but one thing the Texas faires did was they had little blurbs about the acts before and after the schedule, it was kind of like a TV Guide, you flipped thru, said "oh that looks cool, whats that," went to the schedule and found it, and bingo bongo.
I LOVED that there were so many places to sit!!!! Oh my god, Scarborough in TX would MURDER me, I would be in so much pain when I got home, but compared to that whole bitch and a half, I feel damnright spry! It might also be that I flew solo this year so I could use my walking stick and go at my own pace and not basically feel subconsciously rushed by friendgroup.
I saw people vaping, was not upset, just jealous.
There are four more weeks in the faire, and I think I want to try and make it out there once more.
Also I have decided I deserve to take myself out tomorrow to taco bell.
I found and read my program, so have edited thusly.

Hi. My job is to explain this stuff to small children, so here are some basics:
Connect basically means the computer or devices know each other exist, and have worked a way out how to send data to each other. Sometimes this happens automatically when you plug one device into another using a cable, like most generic computer mice work. Sometimes, like a Bluetooth or other wireless connection, this requires a bit more set up from people.
A network is a whole bunch of computers and computer compatible machines all linked together in this way so they can share files and information this way.
A file is a collection of information. Files and folders were choosen as an analogy because on the surface level, they work sorta similar to their real life counterparts. When you save information in word for example, that produces a .docx file. The (sometimes hidden) letter code at the end of a file name tells the computer what sort of thing that information is supposed to represent, like if those ones and zeroes are supposed to represent, by telling it what programs it's supposed to use to open it.
A folder is a way to sort out your files. All your folders end up saved on one of your computer's drives - the actuall machinery that works like long term memory for the computer. On a Windows machine, you can navigate your drives, folders and files using Windows explorer, the app with the manila folder icon. On a toy computer Mac, you can use the finder. These are also one way to access other machines on the network
A location tells your computer where in it's data (memory) or network, to look for something. There are many types, like memory addresses, network locations, web addresses, file locations, but let's focus on that last one. Imagine you're downloading something from the internet. The computer needs somewhere to put that file - that information. Typically, if no settings have been changed, this will be in the downloads folder, in your account's folder, in the users folder, in the C drive.
This computers knows this location as a file address something like: C/users/headspacehotel/downloads
A progam is basically just another word for what you probably know as an app. There are programs which aren't apps in that sort of way, but dont worry about them for now. A program is basically a file, or collection of files usually which make up instructions that the computer can follow. When you click on your Firefox icon for example, the computer is told to go to the location of firefox.exe, and follow those instructions. This is called running the program. Those instructions tell the computer how to draw the Firefox window and all its buttons, to get data from the internet, to apply any settings you saved, and so on.
Why do 70% of people Understand Computer and refuse to tell the other 30% of us how to achieve enlightenment
#computer illiterate? myothertardisisonthemun to the rescue (hopefully)#but when out and about the solution us usually ask the staff#libraries and so on will have everything slightly different do i wouldn't expect to know how to do it right away#computer skills fundamentals: learn to use the file explorer and learn who to find menu buttons#once you can do that you're half way there#when it comes to file types the trick is too open them in another program which can open and save both file types.#for images good old Microsoft Paint will do most things
