Trani (Puglia). Cathedral. Crypts (II - XI sec.). The crypt of the Cathedral of Trani is divided into the crypt of San Nicola Pellegrino and the pre-existing church of Santa Maria della Scala, which develops under the nave of the cathedral, up to the arched exit that holds the access stairs to it. Then there is a sort of crypt of the crypt, which is the hypogeum of San Leucio. The traditional crypt preserves the relics of St. Nicholas. The church of Santa Maria stands out for being low as a crypt. The hypogeum is below sea level, which does not protect the ancient frescoes. San Leucio, probably Egyptian, lived in the second century. A.D., arrived in Brindisi and evangelized Puglia and neighboring regions.
