Offside Tension - Jamie Tartt x Y/N
Masterlist - Next Chapter
Chapter 7: Crossroads
Two weeks had passed since that night under the floodlights when Jamie had stumbled upon Y/N kicking balls at the goal. It had been a moment neither of them fully acknowledged, but one they couldn’t stop replaying. Since then, they had danced around each other in a way that was painfully obvious to everyone else. Their banter remained, but it was charged with a tension that hadn’t been there before—the kind that made their teammates exchange knowing glances or stifle grins behind their water bottles.
It was during a routine passing drill when the latest example unfolded. Jamie had taken up his usual position near Y/N, offering cheeky comments and challenging her to show him up.
“You sure you can still kick a ball properly?” he teased with a smirk. “Don’t need to prove yourself to the lads, Coach.”
Y/N rolled her eyes but couldn’t help the smirk tugging at her lips. “Careful, Tartt. You might learn something if you pay attention.”
As if to make her point, she executed a perfect one-touch pass that zipped cleanly into Isaac’s path. The players let out a collective “oooh,” and Jamie clutched his chest dramatically.
“Wounded, love. Absolutely wounded,” he said, grinning despite himself.
But when Dani made a comment about Y/N’s skill in Spanish, causing her to laugh—a genuine, carefree laugh that lit up her face—Jamie’s grin faltered. He didn’t understand what Dani had said, and he couldn’t help but wonder how Y/N even knew Spanish. But the sound of her laugh, directed at someone else, left an unfamiliar knot in his chest.
“Right, back to work!” Jamie barked, startling the group. The players exchanged amused glances, their suspicions confirmed: Jamie Tartt was the jealous type. Good to know, the team thought.
Later that week, Y/N found herself accompanying Ted to Rebecca’s office for their regular "Biscuits with the Boss" tradition. When they arrived, they found Rebecca and Keeley deep in conversation over a list of names.
“Oh, perfect timing,” Keeley said, looking up with a grin. “We were just talking about the team bonding dinner.”
“Team bonding dinner?” Y/N asked, taking a seat as Ted handed Rebecca her pink biscuit box.
Rebecca nodded. “Yes, I’m organizing it. Formal attire, proper sit-down meal—a chance to remind the players that they’re more than just teammates. They’re family.”
“Formal?” Y/N repeated, a flicker of panic crossing her face. “Like… fancy dresses and all?”
“Absolutely,” Rebecca said with a smile. “Keeley and I thought it’d be nice to elevate the mood.”
“And I don’t suppose I can just… wear my usual blazer and call it a day?” Y/N joked half-heartedly.
Keeley gasped in mock horror. “Babe, absolutely not! Don’t worry—I’ll help you find something.”
Y/N hesitated but eventually relented. “Fine. But nothing too over the top, alright?”
Keeley grinned. “Oh, trust me, you’ll look amazing.”
The evening of the dinner arrived, and Y/N stood in front of the mirror in Keeley’s flat, feeling like an imposter in her own skin. The little black dress Keeley had picked out hugged her curves perfectly, its sleek design both elegant and understated. She paired it with simple heels and a touch of makeup, her hair styled in loose waves.
“You look stunning,” Keeley said, beaming with pride as she adjusted the strap on Y/N’s dress. “Jamie’s gonna lose his mind.”
Y/N rolled her eyes, though her cheeks flushed at the mention of his name. “This isn’t about Jamie.”
Keeley smirked. “Sure it isn’t.”
The venue Rebecca had chosen was nothing short of spectacular, with twinkling fairy lights and an intimate, upscale atmosphere. The team and staff milled about, dressed to the nines, their usual banter laced with excitement.
Jamie arrived with Sam and Dani, his usual swagger intact. But the moment he saw Y/N across the room, talking to Rebecca, he froze. She was radiant, her dress accentuating every curve in a way that made it impossible for him to look anywhere else. For once, Jamie Tartt was utterly speechless.
Rebecca and Keeley exchanged a smug look as they watched Jamie approach the table, his eyes never leaving Y/N.
“Oh, look at that,” Rebecca said dryly. “The plan worked.”
Keeley grinned. “Told you.”
When it came time to sit, Jamie found himself beside Y/N, as planned. She glanced at him, her nerves making her stomach flutter. “You clean up alright, Tartt,” she said, her tone light.
Jamie smirked, though his heart was racing. “You’re not so bad yourself, Coach.”
Their usual banter resumed, but the proximity and the formal setting made every exchange feel electric. Jamie couldn’t stop stealing glances at her, his chest tightening every time she smiled or laughed.
At one point during the meal, a conversation arose about the future of the team and the challenges ahead. When Y/N spoke up, her insights thoughtful and passionate, Jamie found himself hanging on her every word. It struck him then how much her opinion mattered to him—not just as a coach, but as a person. He wanted her to see him as more than just Jamie Tartt, the footballer. He wanted to be someone she could respect, someone she could trust.
By the time dessert arrived, Jamie had made up his mind. He wasn’t just going to pine after Y/N in silence anymore. He was going to show her that he was serious—that he was worth the risk.
As the dinner wound down, Jamie leaned closer to Y/N, his voice low. “You fancy a walk?”
She hesitated, caught off guard by the sudden shift in his tone. But something in his eyes made her nod. “Yeah. I think I’d like that.”
And with that, the night took a turn neither of them had expected—one that would bring them closer to the crossroads they had been inching toward all along.
As they stepped outside, the cool evening air wrapped around them, a welcome contrast to the warmth of the dining hall. The city lights twinkled in the distance, and the faint hum of nightlife filled the air. Jamie walked alongside Y/N, his hands shoved into his pockets, his posture casual but his eyes constantly drifting toward her.
“I didn’t think you’d agree to this, y’know,” he said after a moment, his voice low. “The whole fancy dinner thing, doesn’t seem like your scene.”
Y/N chuckled softly. “Trust me, I didn’t have much of a choice. Rebecca and Keeley are very persuasive. And it's for the team. They've become my family now, I realized that recently.”
“Yeah, they’ve got a way of gettin’ what they want,” Jamie agreed with a grin. He glanced at her, his gaze lingering. “But I’m glad you came. And that you see us, I mean, the team that way.”
Y/N looked over at him, the sincerity in his tone catching her off guard. “Why’s that?”
He shrugged, his smile turning a bit sheepish. “Dunno. Just… nice havin’ you there, I guess. Everybody thinks so. You know, when you walk into a room, all eyes are on you, and you don’t even realize it, love.”
They walked in silence for a while, the sound of their footsteps on the pavement filling the gaps. Jamie seemed unusually thoughtful, his usual bravado replaced with something quieter, more genuine. It made Y/N’s chest tighten in a way she wasn’t ready to analyze.
“You’re different tonight,” she said finally, her voice soft. “Not in a bad way, just… different.”
Jamie stopped walking, turning to face her. The streetlamp above cast a warm glow over them, and for a moment, he just looked at her, his blue eyes searching hers.
“Maybe I’m tryin’ to figure things out,” he admitted. “About… about what I want.”
The words hung between them, heavy with meaning. Y/N felt her heart skip a beat, her mind racing. She didn’t know how to respond, so she did what she always did—she deflected.
“Well, I hope you figure it out,” she said lightly, forcing a smile. “You’re a big boy, Tartt. You’ll manage.”
But Jamie didn’t laugh. He just kept looking at her, his expression unreadable. “What if I already have?”
Y/N’s breath caught, but before she could say anything, Jamie stepped back and gestured toward the path ahead.
“C’mon. Let's walk you back.” Now wasn't the right time, he thought.
They continued in silence, the tension between them almost palpable. When they reached the entrance to the venue, Jamie hesitated, his hands still buried in his pockets.
“Thanks for that walk, I needed some air,” Y/N said, her voice barely above a whisper.
Jamie nodded, his eyes fixed on hers. “Anytime.”
For a moment, it felt like something might happen—a shift, a step forward—but then Y/N broke the moment, turning toward the door.
“Let’s not keep 'em waiting, they'll wonder where we are.”
“Right, after you, Coach,” he replied, the nickname tinged with affection.
As she disappeared inside, Jamie stood there for a moment longer, staring at the now closed venue door. He ran a hand through his hair, letting out a frustrated sigh.
“Proper fucked,” he muttered to himself before turning and heading back into the night. Irish Goodbye.

hear me out ted lasso season 4 opens on elevator doors opening to reveal ted, dressed smartly in a tux and a smile but looking so painfully uncomfortable. we follow him to a ballroom -- a wedding -- michelle's wedding, not to a marriage counselor but to a pilot [because that would just be so fucking funny to me personally]. he plays the part of supportive ex, but when we follow him back to the lift, finally alone, he sags with exhaustion, everything that's about to change weighing heavily on him.
the elevator doors close, reopening on keeley, juggling a planner, bags, and flowers, in a clear hurry. we follow her to a room that's bustling, a makeup team and stylists buzzing around a celebrity as she coaches her for an upcoming interview. she doesn't get much of her attention, and keeley's anxiety visibly increases with the woman's disinterest. she's still trying as we follow them back to the lift.
the elevator doors close, reopening on a bursting, bustling team of greyhounds, fresh off a win and flying high. in quick succession we hear them boast their success, lament the boss's absence and fight to choose a destination for the evening. they continue on, but we find colin lingering at the lift, ultimately staying behind, looking regretful about it. but the relentless press is wearing on him and it's easier when he stays in.
the elevator doors close, reopening on a room service cart stuffed to the gills with breakfast food. we follow it into a room that could be anywhere in the world, where we find rebecca lounging in a sunlit bed as dutch guy gets ready to leave. she smiles with affection, but there's an emptiness to the whole scene. when he leaves, she's unenthused, growing weary of chasing him down for a night together, or a few, when she has so much work to be done at home. we follow the intact breakfast back to the elevator, a small plate of pressed, shaped, perfectly pristine looking biscuits front and center, completely untouched.
#when the first whispers of another season started this is what i saw before i enacted my Official Refusal to speculate#these may or may not actually make sense because im gonna be real with you i do not remember fuck all about where everything ended in s3 😶

I love you Rebecca Welton fics🩷
So maybe a Rebecca Welton Fic where reader and her have been married for a while but no one quite believes it until reader shows up to drop off pinch for Rebecca?
Forgotten lunch
Rebecca Welton/fem!reader
warnings: fluff
words: 1700+
My requests are open!!
English is not my first language!
A/N: firstly, i love your request, and thank you for sending it! and secondly, im really sorry, my brain read your request a little differently but I hope you will like it! hope you will enjoy reading it! let me know what you think!!💚
Rebecca Welton always wanted to have an aura of secrecy around her. Sharing every aspect of her life with others was not for her. After a messy divorce from Rupert, she learned even more about living in secrecy. She didn't want to experience another drama in her life, and she certainly didn't want the press meddling in her private affairs again, so she decided to keep some things to herself. However, as the owner of a football club, it wasn't easy, as it involved many plans and rules she had to follow.
Rebecca's daily schedule remained consistent. Each morning, she had to go through her ritual to ensure she didn't forget anything important. Being an early riser, she would often admire her partner's sleeping face before the alarm went off. Despite her demanding job, Rebecca always made time for you. Mornings were her favorite moments, a brief shared moment of lying in bed and cuddling before she went to get ready for the day. During this time, you would go downstairs to prepare breakfast for both of you and pack lunch for Rebecca. Remote work had the perk that you could spend most of the day in your pyjamas without worrying about anything.
“How can you look this gorgeous so early in the morning?” You asked when she came downstairs in all her glory. She grabbed you by the hand and tugged you for the sweetest kiss. “I don’t know, how can you look this cute in your pyjamas?” She laughed when you scoffed and kissed your nose.
“Well, not everyone is the owner of a football club, baby. So I need to pull off my pajamas look.”
“And you do it perfectly darling,” she smiled and beckoned you closer to her, “I love seeing you like this. It’s a shame that I need to go to work.” She said while her hands went under your shirt to caress the soft skin of your stomach.
“Someone is clingy today. You sure you can’t stay today?” You asked, internally knowing the answer but there was no harm in asking, maybe one day she would agree.
Rebecca sighed, leaning her head on your chest and hugging you tightly, “No, sorry sweetheart. I can’t, I have some meetings today but I promise I will be home for dinner.” The two of you stood in your embrace for a little while, taking this moment of calmness.
“Oh fuck,” you heard Rebecca silently murmur before quickly getting up. “I need to go, otherwise I will be late. Have a good day, I love you!” she shouted as she left the house. As she opened the door, you noticed her packed lunch sitting on the counter. “Wait, love! You forgot your...” The door closed before you could finish the sentence, “...lunch.”
You pondered for a moment about what to do with the lunch box. Your initial thought was to bring her lunch to work, but since no one knew about your relationship, you weren't sure if Rebecca wanted them to know. However, you had made her favorite dish, and you knew she was craving it, so not having it today would surely ruin her mood. Ultimately, you decided to send her a text and wait for her response.
Hi, love! You forgot your lunch from home and I know you have been craving this meal so what do you want me to do with it? I think I'll put it in the fridge and it'll be waiting for you. Missing you already xx
Rebecca got to work without being a minute late. She sat in her office and checked her phone, seeing your message she searched her purse, “Shit!”
“Hello to you too, Boss!” she saw Ted standing in her office with his usual box of biscuits in hand. “Sorry, Ted. Yes, good morning.” She said with a tight smile.
“Got up on the wrong side of the bed? Maybe these will help.” Ted said, handing her the box.
“Thank you,” she said, grabbing one of the biscuits, “I just forgot my lunch at home. It was a tasty lunch, so I’m a little upset.”
“Maybe you can send someone to grab it for you? I don’t mind going there if you want me to. It’s not like I have many things to do today.” Ted offered.
“No, that won’t be necessary. I think I have an idea. But back to work, do you have something you want to talk about?” she asked while texting you.
I didn’t even notice! You and your pyjamas distracted me! But I thought maybe you could come here and drop it. And if you are not busy, have lunch with me in my office? That would be very nice. Love you xx
Yeah, of course! When do you want me to be there?
Around two? How does that sound?
I’ll be there! I can’t wait! xx
Rebecca was nervous, not because she was ashamed of who she was or her relationship, but because she wanted to protect her and your privacy. And you coming here wasn’t something that she expected to do. But she was also excited. She wanted you to be in all parts of her life and perhaps introduce you to some of her friends at AFC Richmond if you were up for it.
As two o'clock approached, Rebecca paced in her office. The door swung open, and she turned around to see Keeley standing there. Although she felt disappointed, she didn't show it on her face.
“Hey! I need to tell you all about this new staff at my office. He is getting on my nerves so bad!” Keeley said, settling comfortably on the couch in Rebecca’s office. “You know, he is new but fucking hell he doesn’t know how to do anything. He broke the printer today! Printer, Rebecca! How does someone not know how to use the fucking printer!”
“Oh hey, yes, I’m good, thanks for asking. And no, you are not interrupting.” Rebecca said, her voice laced with sarcasm.
“Don't tell me you're busy. I saw you pacing!” Keeley exclaimed. Another person appeared in the doorway. “Oh, Ted! Come here, maybe you have some gossip to share!” she shouted from the couch.
I’m here. Do I just go straight in or do I need to do something?
Go straight in, when you reach the stairs you need to go up and there is my office.
Rebecca didn’t know what to do. You will be here any minute, and she is not alone.
FYI Ted and Keeley are here in my office.
Oh. Do you not want me to go there? I mean I can ask someone to bring you lunch.
Don’t be silly, come here. I want you to meet them. I want you to be a part of this family I have here <3
Okay, give me a second, I love you xx
“Who are you texting? Me and Ted are here so..did you finally meet someone?” Keeley asked, and Rebecca could only smile. She saw you standing in the hallway and beckoned you inside. “Who is there? Are we inviting more people to the gossip group?” Keeley said, but Rebecca wasn’t listening to her anymore.
You shyly stepped into the office, stealing a glance at Keeley and Ted before waving at them. They looked at you with confusion, unsure of who you were. But before you could speak, Rebecca embraced you in a hug. “I’m so happy you are here, darling,” Rebecca whispered in your ear. After releasing the hug, her hand remained on your waist. “Thank you for bringing me lunch, I know I promised you to eat together but I didn’t expect to have company." She said, giving a narrowed look to the two individuals on the couch.
“You didn’t tell me you are bringing a hot date here! So that’s not my fault!” Keeley exclaimed. She quickly introduced herself, saying, “Hi, I’m Keeley, Rebecca’s best friend, and you are?”
You smiled at her, “Hi, I’m Y/N, Rebecca’s-“ You glanced at Rebecca, and she nodded, so without hesitation, you continued, “wife.” The two of you exchanged smiles as you noticed their confused expressions. You couldn't help but feel a rush of joy as you saw the surprise on their faces.
“Wait a moment, did I hear correctly? You said wife, didn't you? I mean my hearing isn't as good as it used to be, but surely it can't be that bad. Or maybe I imagined it?” Ted questioned, his eyebrows furrowing as he nervously rubbed his ear, trying to make sense of what he'd just heard.
Rebecca laughed lightly at his surprise, nodding in affirmation. “Yes, Ted, you heard me correctly. She is my wife, it will be two years soon.” Rebecca confirmed with a gentle smile, her fingers tenderly squeezing your side for reassurance.
Keeley seemed to get out of her confused stage, “I knew you were a little fruity but WIFE! And you didn’t tell me! I’m seriously offended!” she said, her voice filled with faux disapproval, “It will take a lot of hot gossips for me to forgive you!”
“I don’t know about hot gossip, but we definitely will have girls' night since you know who I am.” You said, a note of excitement creeping into your voice, “I'm sorry Ted, I can't make any promises about them letting you in, but just so you know, from my side, you're also invited!”
“Yes! Girls night! I always wanted to be invited to one!” He jumped into the air in his excitement, his fist pumping in victory.
The room filled with laughter as Ted looked like he'd just won the lottery, and even Keeley's initial surprise had faded, replaced with an eager grin. Rebecca and you both laughed at his excitement, “I'll look forward to it,” Rebecca said, a smile dancing on her lips.
You couldn’t help but feel a rush of warmth spread through you as you watched Rebecca talk and laugh with her colleagues. It was a sight you didn’t get to see often. She caught your eye and winked at you, her eyes sparkling with happiness.
This was a new chapter in your life, and you both were ready for it. Rebecca was finally ready to let the world know about her love for you, ready to take on whatever came her way with you by her side.

The thing I love about Protective!Ted in relation to tedbecca is not the whole ‘caveman angry because someone upset his woman’ but rather, how his anger and dislike for Rupert, and the way that he handles it, signals to (a very mistrustful) Rebecca that his charm and his kindness is not some farce he shows absolutely everybody.
Over time, we learn that Rupert started out charming. He told Rebacca all he wanted was to talk to her, he made her feel special. So when Ted comes in every morning to bring her a batch of homemade biscuits and just, hang out with her. She’s understandably hesitant, because that’s how Rupert got her, and she doesn’t yet understand the difference between charming and nice.
But when Ted faces off against Rupert (eg the gala, playing darts) his responses to her being insulted, belittled and spoken down to, all reveal a level of uncontrollable, genuine care.
Rupert would’ve easily brushed off any insults towards his wife with some charm and good natured teasing, he probably even joined in, the fucking guy. Meanwhile, Ted’s reactions to Rupert insulting Rebecca are always abrupt and defensive. He loses his cool, he says something he’s not supposed to, he reveals something he’s not supposed to, he becomes a guy that even we, the audience, are not used to. But his protectiveness never comes from a place of typical, masculine possessiveness or jealousy. (Okay, maybe a little jealousy. A girl can dream)
In the charity-gala episode, Rupert causes immediate stress for Rebecca. So Ted, not even knowing the full extent of it yet, visibly dislikes this guy from the moment they meet. Even when Rupert’s charming the pants off the crowd and raising charity ‘for the children’ Ted continues to react uncomfortably in his presence, no matter how friendly he is.
Then, when he does get the extent of it, (Rebecca crying, Rupert being the one to cancel the musical guest) he lets that dislike out, openly taking Rebecca’s side. Which isn’t surprising, but is still very sweet.
In the dart episode, Rupert reveals he’s gonna be in the owners box everyday. Ted doesn’t like this at all, but he doesn’t go off his own reaction, he observes Rebecca’s reaction to gauge her feelings on the matter. Rebecca is clearly unsettled and uncomfortable, and you can kind of see Ted mentally go, ‘yeah no, she’s not cool with that, that’s not happening.’
And then even before they play darts, first and foremost, Ted checks if Rebecca would like to leave. Now, we know his character hates conflict, especially after his train-wreck marriage, so we know that he would like to leave. But when Rebecca decides to remain in a bar with her horrible ex-husband, his child-bride and a room full of people who adore him, which is a little masochist-y even for me, he doesn’t even hesitate.
Her reasoning is very English. ‘Make yourself suffer out of obligation to polite society’ type shit. But instead of making her feel silly or ridiculous or forcing her to leave, Ted goes out of his way to ease Rebecca’s suffering and make Rupert leave her alone, even if it causes him discomfort.
Now, I know that Ted is a very caring character and a lot of this can be chalked up to him being a good friend. But with the way they present Ted and Rebeca’s relationship (he calls her boss, she calls the shots, she’s more authoritative) To see him take over for her, without thought, whenever Rupert upsets her, reveals more intimacy and depth to their relationship than we previously understood. And to have her be grateful, and in some instances, downright delighted by this display of care and protectiveness, reveals something else entirely.
Anyway I read twelve protective!Ted tedbecca fics last night and this is what’s left of my brain.

They tried to take the focus away from the biscuits, but they were essential in their bond (Heh remember apple dropping the biscuit bond vid, YEAH). They were important for her, a sweet gesture that never meant ‘you owe me one’- just goodness and no judgment for her sweet tooth 🥺

"Good mornin' boss!" Ted says, happy as ever on his usual morning stroll into Rebecca's office. "I got you your favorite!"
"Good morning Ted, thank you!" Rebecca says as she eagerly grabs the little pink box from his hands.
"I also got a little extra today for that beautiful wife of yours!" Ted places a second pink box onto Rebecca's desk.
"Oh Ted, how kind! She is going to love them!"
"Don't mention it boss. Although I gotta say, I know we were all at the wedding and all, but I'm beginning to think the whole thing was just a ruse and that she don't actually exist." Rebecca gives Ted a look and he chuckles. "You two have been married for how long? And I've only met her twice, including yall's nuptials."
"Well Ted, we've been very busy, and now that the baby's due date is coming up things have been even busier."
"Ya'll should come to the game this weekend! I know the baby is due soon but it'll give you both the chance to hang out and have some fun before the real fun starts!"
"Ted, I don't know-"
"I ain't takin' no for an answer unless she calls me and tells me no herself!"
"Alright Ted, I will speak to her about it tonight."
"Alrighty then! Catch ya on the flipside, boss!"
As you're laying on the couch, flipping through channels, you're beginning to realize that there's nothing good on tv anymore. No more good shows to just throw on when you're bored. Luckily, right before you feel like you're about to die from boredom the front door opens.
Rebecca walks into the house and closes the door, immediately kicking off her shoes and hanging her coat on the coatrack. Looking up, she sees you slowly sitting up on the couch.
"Hello there my love." She says with a warm smile.
"Hi baby, how was your day?"
You go to stand up and it takes you a few tries before you can even begin to pull yourself up off of the couch.
"Be careful! Here, let me help you." Rebecca says, rushing to your side.
"I'm okay baby, don't worry."
Rebecca helps you stand and cups your face in her hands.
"I know my love, but I can't help but worry."
Even without shoes on, Rebecca towers over you, so you get up on your tip toes and softly kiss her.
"You're adorable."
"Never more adorable than you."
A slight blush creeps across your cheeks and you wrap your arms around her and hug her tight. Damn hormones.
"How was your day?"
"The usual, busy as always. Oh! Before I forget-" Rebecca walks away from your grasp and you pout. She grabs her purse and walks back over to you after pulling out a little pink box. "Ted made an extra box of biscuits just for you."
"Aw! He shouldn't have-" you open the box and the sweet scent of biscuits fills your nose. "Oh my god." You moan and your eyes roll back a little. "These smell amazing."
Rebecca looks at you with a smirk on her face.
"What?"
"I've never seen anyone or anything other than me make you make that face before." She says with a wink.
"Rebecca Welton!"
Rebecca laughs and pulls you in for a kiss.
"I love you."
"I love you too."
"Oh, and Ted was on my case once again about meeting you and invited you to the match this weekend, but I told him it probably wasn't going to happen."
"Why not?"
Rebecca looks a little surprised.
"Well I know how tired you've been and the baby is due soon and I don't want to overwhelm you."
"You're adorable, but I would love to go see a match. It would be nice to get out of the house for a little while anyway."
"Are you sure? You don't think it'll be too much?"
"Baby I'll be fine, I promise. Let's go and have some fun."
Rebecca gazes into your eyes and you feel like you've fallen in love all over again. Her emerald green eyes pull you in so deeply you forgot where you were for a moment. You're brought back to earth when she leans down and gently kisses you.
The rest of the week flies by and before you know it, it's game day. It's also two weeks before your due date, something that both you and Rebecca are so excited about, but you can tell her anxiety is starting to sky rocket.
"Are you sure you're okay with going? There's some stairs and a little bit of walking, the seats aren't comfortable and we'll be in them for a few hours." She rambles on while pacing back and fourth.
"Baby," you say, trying to pull her out of her spiral, but she doesn't stop. "baby!" Rebecca finally stops and turns towards you. Walking up to her, you cup her face with your hands and look deeply into her eyes. "Everything will be fine, don't worry, okay? We're going to go, have a wonderful time, come home and go right to sleep, okay? I'll be fine, I promise."
Rebecca stares back into your eyes for a few moments before nodding her head. You pull her down and bring her in for a kiss. Her body relaxes into yours when your lips meet and she lets out a peaceful sigh.
"Ready?"
"I'm ready when you are my love."
The two of you get into the car and head to the stadium. You both decided to get there a little early to say hi to everyone since you've only met most of them once or twice before.
Rebecca leads you into the locker room and the room goes silent when she walks in.
"Good afternoon boys, good luck out there today! I want to introduce you all to my wife, y/n."
As if it was rehearsed, all of the boys greet you at the same time.
"Hi everyone, it's great to finally meet you all!"
"Well I'll be darned! You sure do exist!" Ted says as he walks out of his office. "You owe me 20 bucks." He says to Coach Beard who pulls out a £20 and slaps it into Ted's hand.
"Hello Ted, you remember y/n, y/n, you remember Ted."
"How could I ever forget my favorite boss' wife?!" He says as he pulls you in for a hug. "How're ya feelin'? You're due soon, right?"
"I'm feeling really good. I feel gigantic, but good. And yes, the due date is two weeks from today actually!"
"Well how about that! Coach Beard, get over here!" Coach Beard walks over to the three of you and he nods at Rebecca, who nods back. "Coach, you remember y/n, right?"
"Could never forget her. How are you?"
"I've been good!"
"Hey! Roy! Nate! Get your butts over here and welcome our guest of honor!"
Roy and Nate walk over and you all greet each other. You only met Nate one other time, at your wedding. He's sweet but very nervous, but in a cute way almost. Roy you've met a bunch of times, you, Rebecca, Roy and Keeley have gone on your fair share of double dates over the last few years and you've gotten to know him quite well.
Rebecca introduces you to some of the players, some of them comment on how you're glowing. One player, Jan Maas, says something about how large you look and every one of his teammates groans and throws their towels at him. That made you laugh so hard you almost peed yourself.
After mingling for a little while, Rebecca brings you out to the stands to your seats. Keeley and Higgins eventually join you and before you know it, the match it starting.
As the boys play, the crowd goes wild. Both teams are giving it their all and it quickly turns into an intense match. Richmond shoots and the other teams goalie just barely knocks it away. The other team takes the ball across the pitch and shoots. Zoreaux dives, catching it in a perfect save.
Just before half-time Colin has the ball and is running down the pitch, he passes it to Jamie who looks like he's about to kick the ball into the goal but instead kicks it across to Sam who sinks it into the net.
The crowd goes wild, all four of you jump out of your seats in excitement as chanting rings out into the stadium.
Half-time comes and goes and the match starts up once more. Both teams come back with a fire in their hearts and play with even more passion than they had in the first half. Jamie gets possession of the ball and sprints to the other end of the pitch, right before he's about to score a player from the other team slide tackles him and kicks the ball away to his teammate.
A collective "ohhh" echoes through the crowd and you feel a cramp in your abdomen that causes you to bend forward a little.
"Are you okay?" Rebecca says, her eyes instantly filling with worry.
"Yeah, I'm fine baby, I promise."
A few minutes later, another cramp appears and you take a deep breath as you breathe through it. Rebecca looks at you with concern and you give her a reassuring smile. The two of you turn your attention back to the intense game and she grabs your hand, giving it a squeeze. You can tell just by the way she's gripping onto your hand that she's nervous, when you look over at her you can see her thoughts going a million miles a minute.
Just as you're about to comfort her, another, much stronger cramp hits and you double over gasping for air. Before anyone can react you feel a gush between your legs like you just peed yourself.
"Oh shit."
"What? What's wrong? What happened?" Rebecca says in a panic.
Looking over at Rebecca you see worry and fear painted across her face. It breaks your heart a little seeing her so scared.
"I'm okay, but don't panic, alright?" Rebecca stares at you silently and you grab her hand. "I'm fine, however, I'm pretty sure my water just broke."
"WHAT?!"
"NO FUCKIN WAY!" Keeley yells.
"Rebecca! Baby, calm down, it's okay!"
"I knew we shouldn't have come here, god damnit."
"Hey, hey, listen to me." You say, cupping her face. "Look at me, it's okay. Everything is okay. The match isn't why this is happening-"
"But you're not due for another two weeks!"
"It's okay, remember what the doctor said? I can go into labor as early as 38 weeks and that's totally normal. Okay?"
Rebecca nods her head with her eyes still filled with worry. Another cramp, which you're pretty sure is a contraction at this point, hits.
"Shit!" You say, grabbing Rebecca's hand. Breathing through it, Rebecca rubs your back and gives Keeley a worried look. Once it passes you look back up at Rebecca. "Everything is fine, however, we should definitely go to the hospital now."
"Yes, you guys go, we'll take care of everything else here, right Higgins?" Keeley says.
"Yes! Of course!"
"Right, yes, okay. Come on, let me grab your things, uh- my jacket, shit, my purse-" Frantically, Rebecca grabs both of your things and helps you stand up. She leads you out of the stadium and into the car and the driver takes you to the hospital.
The labor was long and painful but once they placed the epidural the pain was much easier to deal with. After the doctor came in to examine you again she said it was time to push.
With your legs in the stirrups and Rebecca's hand in yours, you begin to push. Every time you felt that now familiar pressure you pushed, you felt like you were going at it for hours, even though it had only been thirty minutes.
Exhaustion begins to take over and you feel yourself losing steam. You lay back for a minute to take a breath and Rebecca looks into your eyes.
"You're so close my love, she's almost here. Just a little more. I'm so proud of you, you're doing such an amazing job." She gently brushes a strand of hair out of your face and smiles at you. After a minute you feel the pressure again and push harder than you have before.
Just when you think you can't keep going, the most beautiful cry rings out into the delivery room. As you lay back the doctor places the baby in your lap and they dry her off. Carefully, you bring your hand to her head and caress her with your thumb. Rebecca's grip on your arm tightens and you look over at her to find that she has tears streaming down her face.
The nurse whisks the baby away and you reach up and wipe Rebecca's tears away.
"She's perfect." She whispers.
"She is." You say with a smile.
After a few minutes the nurse comes back with the baby and hands her to Rebecca. Moving over to Rebecca can sit next to you, she claims the spot and looks down at your daughter with wonder in her eyes.
The next few days were a whirlwind, learning how to breastfeed and to get the baby to latch, recovering from giving birth, just adjusting to the new life the two of you stepped into. It's been chaos but also beautiful.
As you're laying in bed with the baby in your arms, Rebecca is sitting on the recliner reading her book. Everything is peaceful and for the first time since giving birth, you're both actually relaxed. A knock on the door takes your attention away.
"Knock knock!" You hear, accompanied by a distinctive southern accent.
"Ted! What are you doing here?" Rebecca says, getting up from her spot.
"Well I heard we got a new member to our Richmond family and Beard and I couldn't say no to givin' 'em a visit!"
Coach Beard steps into the room along with Keeley, Roy, Higgins and a few other players from the team.
"How did you manage to get so many people in here?"
"Southern charm goes a long way in these parts." Beard says.
The baby gets passed around a little, Beard and Roy both declining the opportunity to hold her. The second the baby is placed into Keeley's arms she sobs and sinks into the chair Rebecca was sitting in. It came as a surprise to no one that the second Keeley got her, no one else got to hold her for the rest of the visit.
The team brought lunch, something you were grateful for because you were sick of hospital food at that point.
Beard comes into the room with extra chairs, where he got them from, you have no idea but no one dares to question it.
Everyone takes a seat and you all eat lunch together. This is the most one-on-one time you've spent with everyone. Even though it's kind of weird that it's happening in the hospital after you give birth, it was nice really getting to know everyone finally.
As everyone was finishing up their lunch, the nurse comes back in and it taken back by how many people were in the room.
"Hello everyone!" She says.
"Howdy, I'm Ted Lasso, great to meet ya!" Ted says, getting up to shake her hand.
"I'm Rose, y/n's nurse, there are a lot of you in here, wow."
"Yeah, well, ya know, southern charm still goes a long way overseas."
"I can see that! Unfortunately, the lactation nurse will be here in a few minutes so I'm going to have to ask everyone to leave."
"Oh sure, not a problem at all, right team?" Everyone nods. "Well, we'll get outta your hair."
Everyone starts to say their goodbyes and Keeley tries to walk out with the baby before Roy stops her. Reluctantly, she turns around and hands you your daughter.
"Auntie Keeley loves you so much." She says with tears in her eyes and gives her a kiss on her head. "You guys made the cutest fucking baby I've ever seen."
"Congratulations boss, y/n, she sure is a beauty." Ted says.
"Thank you, Ted." Rebecca says and gives him a hug.
"Thanks Ted, she's perfect." You say, looking down at the infant in your arms.
"I'll catch ya'll later!"
After another day in the hospital, you're finally discharged and able to go home.
Rebecca carries the car seat inside and the two of you take the baby up to the nursery.
After you take the baby out of her car seat, you sit on the rocking chair and feed her before laying her in her crib. After the baby is fed, Rebecca takes her and lays her in the crib. She fusses for a minute and Rebecca starts to softly sing.
You wrap your arms around Rebecca while she sings to the baby and you rest your head on her chest. With on hand gently caressing the baby's cheeks, Rebecca wraps her other arm around you and pulls you tightly into her. As she sings, the baby calms down and within a few minutes she's asleep.
Standing there with your wife, watching over your new daughter as she sleeps, you're the happiest you've ever been.
Rebecca brings her hand to your chin and tilts your face up towards her.
"I love you."
"I love you too, Rebecca."
She leans down and places a soft but firm kiss on your lips. Nothing could ever take away the love and joy that's filling your heart right now.

Rebecca Welton x fem!reader

There was a big game against Ted's team and Ruperts team and by the grace of God everyone was hoping that the Richmond boys win. Rebecca was shifting in her seat every 2 seconds and keeley couldn't stop biting her nails. Ted on the other hand was standing by the fence with his arms folded watching the game in silence. You looked over and saw rupert smirking his ass of in his seat, and now and then he would glance over at Rebecca's face. Honestly you found the man outterly disgusting.
Rebecca and him has long history and even after their divorce he still wanted to make her life a living hell. When Rebecca hired you to be her assistant and spoke person you where overjoyed. You were desperately in need of the job and was just happy she approved your application. Rebecca has been nothing but kind and respectful towards you. When you had first started rupert tried to hit on you but she made sure to let him know you were hers. Rebecca would take you out for lunch, buy you gifts when you chosed to stay back at the office to get extra work in and gaved you day offs.
Even when your landlord threatened to throw you out Rebecca bought you a millionaire penthouse 15 minutes away from AFC Richmond when you told her she didn't have too she said " my money my choice" her signature line to say. Rebecca would even go as far to pick you up on mornings and come over on weekends to keep your company. Rebecca was the best boss in the world and a friend anyone could ever ask for, especially keeley she was like a big sister to you.
Even though Rebecca was your boss you couldn't help the crush that was growing on you with her. The way she would look at you in hallways and gently rub your back to holding seats for you and sharing her biscuits - Rebecca never shares food she loves - ever. You were head over heels for the woman but you kept it respectful. She did amazing things for you and you wouldn't want to ruin the relationship you spent months working on or even worst - lose your job.
" you ok y/n" she asked placing her cold hand on your thigh, oh how you regretted wearing jeans. You wanted to feel her skin on yours. You flashed her a warm smile and nodded looking back at the game. Rebecca's hand never felt your thigh which made you squirm slightly in your seat every so often. Ted's boys had three more points than ruperts boys and there was only two more rounds left and each round had five scores, which meant Ted's team was in the winning section for now.
" what are you going to do if Ted's boys win becca?" You asked looking over at her. She placed down her phone on her thigh and looked over at you, smirking wickedly. That alone was enough to make you go crazy, she deep green eyes stared at your for a moment as she wondered what she would truly do. It took everything in you to not look away and blush at the way she was looking at you.
" I'd fuck you good" she whispered in your ear before pulling away and watching your reaction. Your eyes widen slightly as you let out a small gasp causing the blonde to chuckle.
" I'm kidding darling, I'll take out the team for dinner" she spoke tucking a strand of hair away from your face. She smiled at you before picking her phone back up and scrolling through Instagram. You shifted slightly in your seat wondering if she actually meant that or if it truly was a joke. You shaked it off and continued to watch the game. You almost dozed off before a hand was on your shoulder firmly shaking you. You jumped awake thinking it was Rebecca and that the team had won but when you looked up it was no other than rupert.
" is your team that boring? Perhaps you should come work for my, I promise you you'd never be bored again." He spoke winking before a hideous chuckle was released from him. This man really thinks his charm still work - you thought to yourself. You looked over at Rebecca and keeley who were staring daggers at rupert already. If looks could kill he'd drop like a fly after it was swatted. Rupert chuckled before pushing his hands in his pockets.
" may the best team win-" before he can truly finish his sentence there was a loud cheer before everyone started standing and clapping. You looked down at the score board to see that Ted's team had one. You began jumping and screaming as keely literally jumped onto Rebecca. Both you, Rebecca and keely turned and smirked at rupert.
" who's the best team?" Rebecca asked and rupert lowered his head to look at the ground.
" I'm not a sore loser darling...... congratulations" he spoke scoffing before walking away. Rebecca and keeley busted out laughing and Rebecca grabbed your waist and pulled you into a group hig with her and keeley. After ted came up dancing and jumping and he and Rebecca began screaming and they hugged eachother tightly, swinging eachothers bodies left and right. You kissed keeleys cheek and she gaved you a big hug.
" dinner and drinks on me tonight!" Rebecca shouted. The boys came up and you all hugged and Congratulated eachother.
You walked outside and called a taxi to take you home. You took out your phone and tried to look busy.
" hey y/n your coming tonight right?" Rebecca asked gently placing her hand on your lower face making you flinch slightly at her sudden appearance.
" wouldn't miss it for anything becca" you spoke, carefully punching her arm. She smiled and gently caressed your cheek before walking off to her Car.
" I'll pick you up" she shouted before opening her trunk to change her shoes. You opened your mouth to protess bit you quickly closed it. Rebecca never backs down from her offers. You got into your cab and went home.
~
When you got home you did you took a shower and got ready. You did your makeup very simple and wore a cute but simple dress . You wore you air forces and just let your hair fall smoothly, using your fingers to curl any strand that looked frizzy or air puffed. Your phone dinged as a message from Rebecca popped up.
Becca😉❤️🔥:I'm outside when you finished darling 💋
You smiled at the message before walking out of your apartment and down in the lobby. you saw Rebecca at the front desk talking the cleaning lady before handing her two thousand dollars and giving her a long hug, the lady sniffed as she walked away and Rebecca turned to you. Her eyes widen as she saw how you looked. She flashed you a soft smile before clasping her hand with yours.
" you look amazing darling" she spoke leading you to her car. her car was expensive as hell. Obviously someone with a lot of money would have a car like hers .You giggled as she opened the door for you. You got in and she closed the door before walking around to her side. Rebecca was wearing a tight two strap red dress with black silhouette heels that added to her height. She looked drop dead gorgeous. The way her hips swayed in the dress, to her curves, her eye makeup was on point and her hair was well-done. Everything about her tonight was perfect - as always.
She got in and started driving. She turned on the radio and music started playing. She gasped as her favorite song started playing, she turned to you for a split second, flashing you a smile before placing her hand on your thigh tapping to the beat of the song. You squirmed in your seat as every beat of the song her hand slipped up your thigh an inch more.
When you both arrived she parked and you both got out. Rebecca greeted some people on the way in, making her way straight to ted and the team. Ted and Rebecca made some weird victory dance moves before hugging eachother. Some team members went for drinks first, some went straight for the delicious food. Rebecca went to sit at a table with Ted and some team members literally forgetting about you. You didn't feel offended really but you wanted to spend the night with her. That's the main reason why you came.
You walked over to the bar and saw keeley and Roy looking slightly tipsy as they flirted with eachother. You chuckle softly before telling the bartender what you wanted. After a while you stopped drinking because you were feeling a bit tipsy. You walked over to Rebecca and keeley to get some food to sober up a bit.
" someone's having a good time" the blonde said as she chuckled. You rolled your eyes and smiled at keeley has she handed you steak on a stick.
" someone's a bit drunk" you said sarcastically and keeley laughed.
" I've seen becca drink two bottles of hard liquor and still be sober as fuck" keeley spoke and you all started laughing.
" thank you" Rebecca said cheeky as she kissed keeleys hairline. You rolled your eyes as you ate your steak looking around the office ground that Rebecca organized for the night. You looked around and spotted rupert. You groaned as you turned to Rebecca and leaned your head on her shoulder.
" navy blue suit with off white sneakers" you mumbled and she groaned.
" I know right, he's like the plague. You can't get rid of him" Rebecca spoke. You both looked at eachother and started laughing. After the laughter died down you both decided to join keeley and the others in a game of ' kiss and tell' .
" who wants to go first?" Ted asked and you raised your hand eagerly.
" ok so y/n, tell your biggest secret or kiss Rebecca" everyone immediately started saying "ohhh" as they turned to look at you. Your cheeks heated up ad you got all flushed. You glanced over at Rebecca to see her smirking at you.
" I have the biggest crush ever on Rebecca!" You blurred out quickly as you gaved her a peck on the lips before running towards her office. You closed the door behind yourself and started cursing yourself under your breath. You couldn't go back out there. You literally embarrassed yourself. Rebecca probably thinks your weird now, and why on earth did you run into her office. You ran your hand through your hair in frustration as you stood infront of the bathroom mirror. The door opening and locking broke you from your trance. You turned to see Rebecca.
You looked at her and there was something different about her eyes. Her pupils were dilated, making the smallest ring of her green iris visible for anyone to see. She had the word lust written all over her. She walked up to you and pushed you against the wall and started attacking your neck. You grabbed the back of her head, your fingers in tangled in her hair making it frizzy. You moaned as she bit down on your neck but it didn't draw blood. She softened the flesh with her tongue as she started sucking on the tender flesh, creating a hickey.
She pushed your legs apart and pressed her knee against your dampen lace underwear, you whimpered as you felt her nibbling on your pulse joint. She was driving you absolutely insane. You needed her so bad. You whined as you started grinding your core on her knee and thigh. She chuckled as she flexed her thigh creating the perfect friction for your clit. You let out a pornographic moan that came out way louder than you expected. You could fell Rebecca smirking against your neck. She pulled away and looked at you. She didn't even fuck you yet but you already looked so disheveled and blissed out and needy.
" look at how much of a slut you are for me darling" she whispered before latching her lips onto yours. You moaned into the kiss giving her the perfect entrance for her tongue to slip in. This action deepened the kiss making her kiss you passionately as her tongue explored your mouth. She lifted you up and placed you onto her desk knocking away anything that could injure you or get in the way of fucking you.
She pushed your thighs and up pulled off your underwear, she did it so harshly it made a ripping sound. She hitched up your skirt to your lower abdomen and kneeled before you. Your legs were already shaking and she didn't start her menstruations yet.
" you look so good on my desk darling" she whispered before lapping at your slit, your hips bucked slightly as her tongue flicked over your clit. Rebecca held your thighs apart as she started eating you ad if you were her last meal. You squirmed beneath her as she sucked on your clit harshly. You twitched as you held onto the desk for purchase. You could feel the knoy in your stomach slowly tieing. Your eyes rolled back as Rebecca's tongue push pass your entrance. her tongue curled inside you creating the perfect curve.
" you like when I fuck you like this don't you?" The way she was talking to you, made your brain fuzzy. She was talking to you in such a sultry and degradateing tone. You were so out of the world her tongue felt so good against your pussy, it was ridiculous.
"Pleasepleaseplease" you moaned as you pulled on her hair as you wrapped your legs around her back. Rebecca chuckled against you, the vibrations going straight to your clit making you shiver. All the air was pushed out of your lungs when Rebecca pushed two fingers into you after removing her tongue. Your mouth fell open in a silent scream as your eyes rolled into the back of your head. Rebecca slid them deep inside of you until her knuckles were flush with your skin. She looked up at you in awe. You were a sight to see. Your mouth was agape as you mumbled incoherent sentences as your eyes were rolled to the back of your head.
Rebecca continued to suck and pill at your clit before she started a fast pace with her finger curling them exactly where it made you see stars. She effortlessly hit your g-spot over and over again as she pushed you more and more over the edge.
" Oh fuck! Rebecca I'm gonna-" you couldn't even finish your sentence because Rebecca suddenly made a 'come hiter movement inside you causing you to let out a loud and choked pornographic moan. Janitors walking through the corridors were sure to hear how much of a slut you were for Rebecca. Rebecca looked up and you and smirked. She knew you were close. She could feel your walls closing in tight on her fingers making it hard for her to move. Rebecca slight bit down on your clit and that was it for you.
Your eyes closed shut tightly as you moaned her named like a prayer, your back arching off the table. She took you to a place you didn't even know was possible to reach. She felt your orgasm cover her fingers as she slowly pulled them out. She smirked at the mess on your fingers before licking them off, moaning at your taste. She gently lapped up any that was running down your folds making you twitch and shiver.
You were slowly brought back to life by kisses on your tummy go straight up to your neck. Rebecca's lip met yours in a slow but deep and meaningful kiss.
She pulled back before looking at you. All the lust and desire was gone and it was now replaced with love and adoration. She caressed your cheek softly before gently pecking your lips again.
" someone enjoyed themselves tonight" she whispered cheekly, you rolled your eyes and playfully punched her arm smiling up at her.
" I loved you since the interview" she whispered and you grinned at her.
" how can you not" you spoke with sass Rebecca rolled her eyes and helped you clean up and recuperate yourself. She drove you home and stayed the night. Cuddling up to you in bed softly kissing your forehead and whispering sweet praises in your ear as you both drifted off to sweet slumber.

just an excuse to write about kissing ted <3 warnings/content: kissing, making out, getting together, cute stuff n fluff :)) ted lasso x gender neutral reader [i did write it with a male reader in mind but it can be read as gn too!!] word count: 2.6k also on ao3
messy hair
It was lunchtime at Richmond and you found yourself in front of your boss’ office, staring at the wooden door with a growing pit in your stomach. It’d been an odd day, one that you couldn’t wait to get over with, and being requested in your boss’ office for no apparent reason was not making it any better. You finally gathered up the courage to knock on the door and a voice drifted through the door, inviting you in.
“Oh, there you are,” Rebecca smiled from the couch as you opened the door and popped your head around the corner. Keeley sat beside her and she sent you a sweet smile before drinking from a small cup that clattered against the plate it was paired with. “Do come in, close the door behind you. Come, sit. There we go.”
You perched yourself on the edge of the couch, leaving some space between the three of you. “Am I in trouble or something?”
Rebecca gave you a confused smile as she leaned forward to place an empty plate on the table before raising her hands in defence and letting them drop back into her lap. “No, of course not. Why would you think that?”
“I don’t really get invited up here a lot. Not like Ted does. Can’t help but be a little worried.”
“Ted usually invites himself, really. Barges on up here like he owns the place.”
Keeley took a bite from a biscuit as she nodded, “God, these are so good. And yeah, he does do that.”
“He really does,” Rebecca sighed before giving you another smile. “No. You’re not in trouble, don’t worry. Just wanted to see how you are, really.”
“You… want to see how I am?”
“Yes. How are you doing today?”
You knitted your eyebrows together as you looked between them. Rebecca smiled patiently at you as Keeley stuffed another biscuit into her mouth. “I’m good. How are you doing?”
“You’re doing good? Are you sure?”
“Yes?”
Keeley shook her head, “You don’t seem so sure.”
“Am I missing something here?” You asked. “I’m confused.”
“You’ve just been out of it, is all,” Rebecca clarified. “We’ve been watching you on the pitch from here the past hour and you just seem different today. More reserved. Did something happen?”
“No,” you lied. “Nothing happened, I’m fine.”
“You don’t have to bottle things up, Coach Y/L/N. I’ve noticed you have a tendency to do that.”
They were right, you knew it. But even if you wanted to tell them what happened, you couldn’t. It wouldn’t be fair, for you or for Ted. You couldn’t just tell your boss that your co-worker (correction: best friend, the one that made you laugh no matter what, the man you were madly in love with and wished to be with every second of every day) tried to kiss you the night before and you totally freaked out and ruined the whole thing, leaving both of you distant and confused. No, you couldn’t tell her that.
“I’m fine, promise.”
Rebecca opened her mouth to reply but the door swung open and in walked Ted, a grin on his face and a little pink box in his hand. Keeley jumped up in joy at the sight of him, grabbing the box from his hand before he even had time to speak. “Told you,” Rebecca whispered to you with a smile. “He invites himself.” You tried to smile back but it turned into a grimace and she glanced between the two of you with a tilt of her head. “Ted,” she said, louder this time. “What brings you here at this hour?”
“Just wanted to see the boss and her little friend here. Didn’t know Coach was gon’ be here too, though. What a pleasant surprise,” he said with a grin, but the usual shine in his eyes had been erased and his happiness felt forced. It’d been like that the whole day, the two of you remaining civil yet not talking about what happened. “Anyways, I was lookin’ through my backpack and found an extra box of biscuits all tucked neatly away as if I’d forgotten to give them to you this mornin’. Scared me for a moment or two but then I realised I’d stress-baked last night and made… well, I won’t give you that number. Best to keep that mess a secret. But these ones were packed and ready to be eaten, so here you are.” He glanced at Keeley who had already eaten one and was reaching for another without any shame. “Glad someone’s enjoying them.”
Keeley offered you the box, “Do you want one, Y/N?”
“Nah,” you replied with a shake of your head. “Not hungry.”
“Have you ever tried one of Coach Lasso’s wonderful biscuits?” Rebecca asked and you shook your head. “Oh, please do try one. They’re incredible, you’re really missing out.”
Keeley offered you the box again and this time you gently took one out, aware that Ted was watching you like a hawk. You avoided his eye and took a bite, fighting back the urge to make an embarrassing noise at the taste. They were good. Like, really good. The best you’d ever eaten, you realised as you took another bite.
“So,” Ted said, “you like it? Ain’t too much on your lil taste buds there?”
“It’s perfect,” you replied, giving him a weak smile. “Tastes really good.”
Ted’s face dropped slightly and he looked around the room before gesturing toward the door, an awkward smile sliding onto his face. “Hey, uh, Coach. Can I talk to you for a quick mo’?”
You nodded, rubbing your hands together nervously as you stood. “Yeah, ‘course.” He began to walk to the door and you smiled politely at the girls as you followed. “I’ll see you later, yeah? Thanks for checking in on me and all.”
“You better come straight back, you hear me?” Keeley smiled. “We have so much to talk about.”
“Do we?”
Rebecca smiled, glancing between you and Ted with a curious look in her eye. “We do.”
You nodded and gave them a wave as you left, closing the door behind you and giving Ted a tight smile. He looked anxious, bless him, and you wanted to comfort him but you felt just as anxious and confused. “So…” You started, trailing off and letting the word hang in the air.
“This isn’t private enough,” Ted said before walking down the stairs, down the long stretch of hallway, around a corner, around another, and into the public men’s bathroom. You followed him every step of the way, a pit settling deep in your stomach. “Here we go.”
“You wanna talk to me… in the men’s bathroom?”
Ted scrunched his face up, leaning against one of the sinks closest to the door. “I admit it’s not the most sanitary place I coulda found but I figured it was the best bet.”
“Best bet for what?”
“To talk about what happened last night.”
You sighed, dropping your gaze to the dirty tile beside his left foot. “Ted–”
“I’m sorry, alright? I shouldn’t have done that. I don’t know what I was thinking. It was stupid, reckless, and I don’t know what came over me.” He took a deep breath, his hand running over the white porcelain on the sink nervously. “It was a silly mistake on my part and I’m really sorry. I hope I didn’t mess up the friendship we’ve managed to build up too much.”
Your breath caught in your throat and you managed to catch his eye. “A mistake?”
“...Yeah. A mistake.”
“Oh.”
Ted’s face changed and he looked guilty. His body jerked forward as if he were taking a step toward you but he fought against it. “Did you…” he started, voice quiet and drifting off on its own accord. He cleared his throat. “Did you not think it was a mistake?”
“No,” you whispered before you could stop yourself. “It was just weird timing.”
“Weird timing?” He asked, tilting his head. Realisation dawned on him and he gaped at you. “Does that mean you, you wanted me to… to kiss you?”
You nodded, eyes stuck once again on the tile beside his foot. He took a step toward you, and then another one, and your eyes flickered over the tiles until you were looking back into his eyes. He was inches away, head tilted down to look at you in a way that made you feel smaller than you were. It wasn’t particularly a bad feeling but it did make your skin prickle and your face flush.
“Can I kiss you again? Or is this weird timing, too?”
His voice was low, hushed.
You gave him a small anxious smile, falling even harder for him as he stared down at you with wide nervous eyes. “It’s more of a weird environment than anything.”
“Is that a… I can’t figure out your answer from that.”
“It’s a yes, Ted.”
His lips were on yours immediately, a gentle hand reaching up to cup your cheek as his other slid over your lower back. You gasped into his mouth but wasted no time in grabbing him by his hips and tugging him closer, tilting your head to the side to deepen the kiss. Your tongue slid easily against his and Ted tightened his grip, shifting around so that both of his hands were holding your face as if you might break and he was pressing you against the wall.
“Holy smokes,” Ted whispered against your lips when he pulled back. “That was…”
“Much better than yesterday,” you finished for him with a laugh.
“Yeah, much better than yesterday,” he sighed, pressing another kiss against your lips, this one more gentle. He then pressed another kiss against your lips. And another. And then another. It got more desperate as he went and soon enough you couldn’t pull away from each other again.
“Ted,” you mumbled against his lips, “we’re in a public bathroom.”
He hummed against your lips. “That we are.”
“Anyone could walk in.”
“That they could.” Before you could say anything else, Ted pulled away from you and took your hand in his, leading you into the closest cubicle and locking the door behind you. He smiled at you as his hands dropped to your waist, pulling you close and dropping a kiss on your cheek. “Now no one will see us.” He pressed another kiss to your cheek, this time lower, and then one to your jaw. Then one below your jaw, before nipping at your neck with a cheeky smirk. “Better?”
You let out a laugh of disbelief as your hand slid up over his back and tangled into his hair. “Ted, we’re at work.”
“So? What we do on our breaks isn’t anyone's business, ya see?” As if to prove his point, he lightly bit down on the sensitive part of your neck. “No one will know.”
His lips dropped lower down, a hand coming up to shift away the collar of your shirt so that he could explore uncharted territory. You let out a half-grunt half-moan as he bit down over your collarbone, harder than the last. Ted’s smirk grew into a grin and you couldn’t help but laugh, giving him a gentle tap across his shoulder as you pushed him away.
“Don’t get all cocky about this now,” you scolded, even when you tugged him back toward you by the dishevelled collar of his shirt to kiss him with the power of a thousand suns.
“Can’t help it,” he mumbled between kisses. “Can’t believe this is really happening.”
“Is this how you wanted yesterday to go?” You asked, becoming serious for a moment as you locked eyes with him. He nodded and you pouted slightly. “I’m sorry I reacted the way I did.”
“It’s okay, truly. I’m just glad we got this now.”
“Me too.”
He released your face momentarily to check his watch and he groaned. “Six minutes until breaks over.”
“Takes me about a minute to get to the office from here, so we actually got five minutes left.”
“Four minutes if you take off the time needed to clean ourselves up.”
“Right,” you nodded, pressing your lips against his again before pulling back abruptly. “Shit, I still gotta go back to talk to the Boss. That needs about a minute or two.”
“So two minutes left,” Ted replied.
“About a minute and a half now,” you corrected.
He nodded against you seriously, as if this was life or death, before capturing your lips again and kissing you as if it were the last time he ever could. The next minute and a half was the best minute and a half you’d ever had. Ted’s hands were all over you: teasing at your waist, sliding over your back, burying themselves into your already-mused hair, lightly holding you by the neck. You couldn’t keep your hands off him either, alternating between resting your palms against his sturdy chest and tangling them into his soft brown locks.
Pulling back with a gasp, you grabbed Ted’s arm and checked his watch, cursing at the time. “We’re gonna be late.”
“Huh?” Ted asked, breathless. He moved his arm so he could see the watch himself and his eyes turned comically wide. “Shoot. You don’t wanna ditch Rebecca, she won’t like that. You gotta go now. I’ll stay here for another mo, make it look less suspicious.”
You reached around him to unlock the door as you pressed another kiss to his lips, this one softer and more intimate. It felt less like you were trying to keep the new-found romance a secret and more like you were allowing yourself this moment of peace before you were thrown back into work. He smiled against you, his moustache tickling your nose, and you smiled back before pulling away and closing the cubicle door behind you.
You only had a moment to glance at yourself in the mirror and you wished you hadn’t. The image was burned into your brain as you rushed up to Rebecca’s office–your hair was all over the place, messier than usual and definitely noticeable, and your lips were bright red, bruised, and looked in dire need of some chapstick. You smiled at people as they walked by, confused double-takes following you as you walked, before stopping in front of Rebecca’s office. You couldn’t stay long, not if you wanted to get back onto the pitch as soon as possible, but you knew she’d appreciate the effort of you stopping by,
Clearing your throat and straightening your back, you opened the door with a calm smile. Rebecca and Keeley were still sitting on the couch, both holding empty plates in their hands, and at the sight of you their jaws dropped. You couldn’t help but laugh at their expressions, knowing full well what it must look like, and you closed the door behind you.
“You– Wh– Ted–” Keeley started, eyes wide. “Wait… Ted?!”
You shrugged, a cocky grin sliding onto your face. “Ted.”
Rebecca choked on nothing. “That wasn’t on my bingo card for this year.”
Keeley turned to her with a raised eyebrow. “You have a bingo card for the year?”
“Yes. Don’t you?”
“No, but I do now. And this would have definitely been on it if it was made exactly 30 seconds before now.”
You laughed along before looking down at the pitch, seeing the boys were already filing onto the pitch. Ted trailed behind them and you could see his hair stuck up at every angle–clearly, he hadn’t made an attempt to tidy himself up and instead embraced it. You smiled at the girls again, the two of them giving you cheeky knowing smiles, before asking: “I’m assuming one of you has a hairbrush I can borrow?”

I mean yeah sure it's unlikely that Rebecca and Ted had sex with Beard and Jane being in the house too, but still... nobody knows for sure!
And if you go back now and watch the finale again it would actually make sense if the did sleep together.. 🤷♀️
Them not being able to really talk (at all!) afterwards, also no biscuits with the boss.. (makes you wonder if they made a pact to never talk about that night.) Also Rebecca having even more difficulties to accept the fact that Ted will leave, Ted not really reacting/saying much because it would make everything so much harder. And:
Them not being able to say I love you.
- because holy shit that would have turned things around
#yes I'm indeed trying to convince myself this is how it went#it's canon compliant and that's all that matters#the grip this show has on me..#they will always be endgame to me#even if it takes a Christmas special in 10 years time#tedbecca#ted x rebecca#rebecca x ted#rebecca welton#ted lasso
