Blog 6: Semiotics in Digital Media: Symbolism in "Dark Souls"
Tumblr media
The master class in the semiotics indeed, “Dark Souls” took the advantage of visual and environmental symbols for absorbing the players for an enigmatic and unforgiving world. The bonfire is one of perhaps the most iconic symbols within the sport, a place of safety, respite, and progress in a world filled with hazard. Bonfires are also checkpointing, a way to heal and save your progress, but more importantly, they are a beacon of hope, in the dead, terrible landscape. Deeply embedded game and story symbols, these resonate on practical, emotional, and thematic levels, and within the gameplay (Barthes, 2009).
Tumblr media
The symbols are as the signs for carrying the layered meanings in the keeping with the Roland Barthes' semiotic theory. As taken a bonfire, like example; in Dark Souls it signifies the bonfire of precious relief, and how real it is, and that it winks out all too quickly only to blink back on again. Just like the decayed architecture and scattered broken ruins dotted all over the world of game, they represent decayed and lost civilizations and forgotten histories which players are encouraged to find out the narrative aspects of them.
What makes the Dark Souls clear is how it tells its goods with semiotics and not words. Players are allowed to put their own interpretation on the visual cues, item descriptions and environmental detail which will be in order to figure out the lore and themes of that world. Active interpretation becomes a part of that process, adding to storytelling so that its brevity isn't limited to explicit dialogue or cut screens. As the Dark Souls completes this through semiotics, it is presenting a tremendously immersive, and the concomitantly challenging, narrative wherein players pry a narrative from the many signs, symbols, and meanings present in every nook and cranny of its design.
Conclusion
This semiotic flight whereas having everything to do with the more extensive setting of Dull Souls as a generation has been illuminating and significant to me as a imaginative professional. Through this investigation, the centrality of closely-embedded images as being solid sufficient to reflect its many-faceted profundities of part, hopelessness and anguish has been brought into point of view, rising above medieval strategies of portrayal and multiplying up for a notable involvement tasting distinctive subtleties at each level. Learned from Dull Souls how mechanics don't have to be be expressed unequivocally, and how them can communicate frameworks and connections between them, by observing the natural, visual that with rehashed presentation brings out feelings and rouses elucidation without depending so much on stories.
Steven notes that this knowledge makes a difference you the foremost in your own work, emphasizing how subtle narrating can, and ought to, be executed, too trusting that your group of onlookers will lock in together with your fabric effectively. It has made me realize that indeed the foremost oversimplified pieces — a repeating, planetary image or an unpredictably planned environment — can be significant apparatuses in a writer's arms stockpile for unequivocally passing on topics or making a world that feels lively.
These concepts can impact what I do inventively moving forward, making visual and relevant prompts in stories so that the other individuals find their possess meaning. It's a strategy that deepens not fair the setting, but the engagement, guaranteeing discussion after the shades drop. Actualizing semiotics permits me to create work like Dim Souls that welcomes each person to translate it in their possess individual way.

thinking about having somebody guide my hand down between my legs and assuming they want me to finger myself, only to have them slip two fingers in right next to my own. turning to meet their gaze in shock while they coo something about helping me make myself feel good. the idea of being full in this way making my brain fuzzy, each thrust wiping my mind blank until i can’t string together a complete thought. flushing in embarrassment when i can feel the way my pussy sucks in both of our fingers. the low moan that makes its way out of me when i get to feel the way i squeeze down when i cum, impossibly tight over the three? four? fingers working in and out of me. my fucked out babbling picking up speed as they push my fingers deeper, coaxing me into fucking myself through the orgasm just as they normally would. trying to wiggle away but there’s nowhere to go when they’re holding me still and fucking me open with my own hand.

Dead on Main AU Prompt Fic
Edit: i use @shewhowillrise
The Justice League was choosing their head engineer. They had a few contenders. One being the top student in engineering at Gotham University, even has a scholarship through Jason Wayne’s Scholarship for Underperforming Students. Bruce Wayne has started it after adopting Jason and seeing how smart he was but also how much he struggled in school.
Daniel Fenton lived on the same street as the Monarch Theatre, the same street he found Jason.
Batman couldn’t help but think Daniel was what Jason could have been if he was able to finish school and head off too college.
Batman knocked on the apartment door, not at all surprised at how fast it opened. When setting up the meeting, he could hear the excitement over the phone.
“Hello Batman Sir!” Daniel greeted, holding out a hand. He had a strong firm grip, reminded him of Clark’s. Possibly a meta, which is a plus. With what the kid might encounter while building or making repairs, a meta gene would be good to have, especially strength.
And over the meeting Batman fell more and more in love with the kid’s enthusiasm. Without the guarantee of the job, the kid was ready to give some ideas (that would amazing) incase the League would need them.
The meeting was supposed to be an hour but soon he noticed that the sun was low.
Batman sat up straighter upon hearing a key turn in the lock.
“Oh that’s my partner, sorry, I would I have warned you but I didn’t realize the meeting was going to be this long,” Danny (only creepy billionaires call me Daniel) said, which Batman also noted that he tried his best not to blame Batman for going over the allotted time. Kid’s respectful too.
“Hey Stardust how’d the meeting I’m not supposed to know about go? I’m sure whatever words you stumbled over the Bat didn’t hold it against you for being nerv-” the disembodied voice walks into the dining room, and freezes in surprise before collecting himself, an easy smile going on his face while wiping grease stained hands on his grease stained jeans and stuck one out to shake.
“Hi, I’m Jaylad Peters,” he says but Batman doesn’t take the hand offered. He doesn’t react at all.
In front of him is his baby boy, the one that died in his arms, the one he buried in Gotham Cemetery, near Thomas and Martha. His Jason.

Blog 6: Video Game Prototype
The title of our game is The Secrets of Time. The game credits include myself as the artist, who created all the assets with pixel art, and Michael Webber as the programmer, who worked with game mechanics and gameplay in Unity. The concept of our game is a 2D side-scrolling platformer where a time traveler explores different time periods while evading the shadow timekeepers. The controls are “WASD” to move and a spacebar to jump. During alpha testing, we only had a single level with a background, an animation, and a jump and walk mechanic. Currently, the game has three levels: one in a medieval castle, one outside the castle, and one on a modern street, each with an enemy. Overall, I believe we successfully created a game prototype. Even though it had its flaws, it was a good first attempt.
The original idea of the game was to have a time travel concept and have each level be a different time period. However, as the artist, I think I may have partially struggled with conveying this theme. If I were to continue development, I would probably move the backgrounds so that outside the castle is first, inside the castle is second, and then have a time vortex transport the character to the third. Along with this, I could add collectibles that direct the player along the way to make it clear where to go. On the mechanics side, the hitboxes are slightly larger than they should be which leads the player to hover in mid-air randomly. Also, my programmer struggled with fixing stretched backgrounds. If we were to continue developing this game, we would solve these issues together.

Blog 6
So today is Friday which means I have two days left to finish all the notes I can before I start writing again on Monday. To tell you the truth I am a little disappointed at the fact I did not finish the notes for chapter 1 of my novel. I think I am going to be spending the time all weekend trying to finish it. Hopefully, I might even finish or get some more notes for chapter 2 as well. Hopefully.

@hellsitegenetics
I love them
I didn't know I needed to know that the weed-smoking girlfriends post was genetically a wolf, but I did, and I do. Also puts great stuff on my dash.
it’s so fun to be scrolling unhinged posts and then boom. an organism!
so many moths‼ also, unexpected comedy with some of the matches
perfect blend of silly and informative, and makes for an excellent punchline at the end of a long post. puts creatures on my dash. literally what more could you ask for
It's a really unique blog concept and a lot of times the results are pretty funny. It's great when the sequence matches the post content too!
Creatures 👍
Finds beautiful creatures out of the mess of the hellsite
Offers finality AND gives us a creechur.
I love them. English speakers talk like moths
If this blog wins, they could run the text of the winning announcement, and determine the post's genus and species!
They're also very good about tagging the type of creature depicted in the results, so as long as you mute tags of creatures you don't want to see, it's a very fun time seeing iconic legacy posts (and new submissions) being reduced down to a string of letters and assigned a random species of fish or moth or something!
uhh it’s cool
BLAST
There are so many weird bugs in the world
Yippee!!
If, as Haldane said, God has an inordinate fondness for beetles, then surely this blog proves that Tumblr has an inordinate fondness for moths.
Top tier blog as a geneticist, I love seeing obscure organisms and MOTH
Admin got rate limited after trying to blast the bee movie
the knowledge of biology to pull this off (i have taken one biology class in my life) and also the work to find all the strings honestly deserves quite a bit of praise
This gimmick blog has it all: science, pictures of animals, interaction with the text of other peoples' posts, interesting information, and a unique and fun premise. As a biologist, I'm rooting for hellsitegenetics to reach the end and take the tournament, because it is truly a standout among gimmick blogs.
If they win, perhaps this blog too shall become a cool organism :3
@making-you-in-spore
Incredible works of art from a limited medium, the blog favors quality over quantity and I am always in awe when a dancing creacher in Spore [2008] crosses my dash.
His spores often take him multiple hours to create, and he will go through astounding amounts of effort to commit to the bit. He made his cull poll in spore and then blew it up. Hes also super responsive and active and seems really eager to share his creation techniques and spread the joy of making things in spore [2008]. His blog almost singlehandedly sparked a significant resurgence in interest and playerbase of a 16 year old game that most people see as nothing but a meme. Hes just a guy who likes spore [2008]
i say vote for making you in spore because seeing them blow up their opponents after they win is hilarious
