Corporate Executive Diaries: A Blend of Elegance and Functionality
In the fast-paced corporate world, staying organized is paramount for success. Whether itās planning a project, noting crucial meeting points, or keeping track of daily tasks, the significance of a reliable diary cannot be overstated. Among the many options available, Corporate Executive Diaries stand out as a symbol of professionalism and functionality, serving as an indispensable tool for todayās business leaders.
The Importance of Corporate Executive Diaries
Corporate Executive Diaries are more than just stationery; they are a reflection of a professionalās meticulous approach to time and task management. These diaries are designed to cater to the unique needs of executives, combining elegance with practicality. Their structured layouts allow users to plan schedules efficiently, record key business insights, and monitor long-term goals.
In an era dominated by digital tools, the charm and utility of a physical diary remain unmatched. Writing down tasks and ideas reinforces memory, enhances focus, and offers a tactile experience that digital devices cannot replicate. For executives juggling multiple responsibilities, these diaries provide a tangible sense of organization and accomplishment.
Features of an Ideal Corporate Executive Diary
A well-crafted Corporate Executive Diary typically boasts the following features:
Premium Material: High-quality leather or faux leather covers lend an air of sophistication, making these diaries a perfect companion for boardroom meetings and conferences.
Customized Layouts: Pages designed for daily, weekly, or monthly planning help executives organize their time effectively.
Sections for Notes and Contacts: Dedicated spaces for jotting down ideas and storing business contact details ensure nothing important is overlooked.
Durability: Strong bindings and robust materials ensure the diary can withstand daily wear and tear.
Eco-friendly Options: Many brands now offer diaries made from sustainable materials, aligning with corporate responsibility initiatives.
Why Corporate Executive Diaries Are a Must-Have
Professionalism: Carrying a well-designed diary exudes professionalism and preparedness. It sends a message of commitment to organization and detail.
Focus and Productivity: Writing down tasks and goals clarifies priorities, enabling executives to stay focused and productive throughout the day.
Customization: Many Corporate Executive Diaries offer personalized options, such as embossed names or company logos, making them a unique and thoughtful gift for employees and clients.
Record Keeping: Diaries serve as a physical archive of meetings, ideas, and notes, which can be revisited whenever necessary.
Trends in Corporate Executive Diaries
With evolving corporate needs, diaries have seen a significant transformation. Modern diaries incorporate innovative features like built-in calendars, pen loops, and even USB slots. Minimalist designs with sleek, monochrome covers are particularly popular among young professionals. Additionally, diaries that come with motivational quotes, goal-setting templates, and habit trackers have gained traction, appealing to executives focused on self-improvement.
The trend toward personalization has also surged. Companies often gift branded Corporate Executive Diaries to employees and clients during festive seasons or corporate events. These customized diaries not only enhance brand visibility but also foster goodwill among stakeholders.
Choosing the Right Corporate Executive Diary
Selecting the perfect diary depends on an executiveās preferences and work style. For instance:
Compact Diaries: Ideal for frequent travelers who require a lightweight option.
Desk Diaries: Larger diaries suited for those who spend significant time at their desks.
Digital-Integrated Diaries: Traditional diaries with QR codes or pockets for digital integration cater to tech-savvy users.
Executives should also consider factors such as page quality, the type of binding, and additional features like storage pockets and bookmarks.
A Perfect Gift for Every Occasion
Corporate Executive Diaries make excellent gifts for various occasions, such as promotions, work anniversaries, and the holiday season. They convey appreciation while being practical and enduring. Personalization options, such as engraved names or motivational messages, add a thoughtful touch, making the recipient feel valued.
Conclusion
In the corporate world, where time is money, tools that enhance organization and productivity are indispensable. Corporate Executive Diaries seamlessly blend style, functionality, and professionalism, making them a staple for business leaders. Whether used for personal organization or gifted as a token of appreciation, these diaries remain timeless in their appeal. For executives seeking to streamline their busy schedules, a well-designed diary is not just a toolāitās a statement of intent and a partner in success.

Overdue end of the Lockdown Diaryā¦
Day 55
Iāve taken to swimming in the bleached pool in hopes that the chlorine will substitute for a soap scrub under the cold-water tap. My frog-kicking feet strike the bottom in the shallows, so I make little doggie-paddling circles in the deep end. Still, thereās sun and sparkle and the natural mood lift that comes from being buoyant. Itās a nice break from spreadsheets. I sit my glum cluster down in front of my endlessly-updated google docs and review home repairs and car searches and trade recriminations about why we still donāt have hot water. We try to leave these pleasantries out of our virtual Sunday coffee with our missing member. Itās enough of a stretch as it is.
Day 56
Soon Iāll need to wear smart tops with my pyjamas like all the other WFHers, I tell my girlfriend. Iāve just had a meeting on Microsoft Teams. The topic: IKEA PAX closets. Ā Itās the type of unfunny joke designed to point out just how much damn work Iām doing to sort this house out. I check The Portugal Resident for the latest on beach protocol. Good news! No sign of policed beaches with surveillance drones swooping overhead. The worst limitation for some people is only being allowed a half-day sun lounger rentals. But Iām not cheered. Immediately on opening the article, two advertisement banners have appeared trying to sell me funeral insurance. Must have for expats 40+! Jesus Christ. What have I got myself into?

Day 57
We have hot water!
My longed-for bath is anticlimactic. Itās suddenly in the high 20s and Iām already plenty warm. And perhaps Iām not feeling so fragile anymore. Itās been a week since I unpacked anything, but now I bustle about listening to Radio 6 Music. Synth music recommendations are punctuated by hourly news flashes about soaring unemployment sign-ons, inadequate testing, and Trumpās latest mad cure claims. Lauren Lavern does her āHouse Musicā feature. Was ever a concept ā to submit videos of your household appliances making music ā better suited to our times?
Today we have an ear-and-nose clipper that sound like the opening to Gomezās Get Miles, a squeaking garden gate that heralds Funkinā for Jamaica by Tom Browne, and two hard-working dishwashers. Once unheard as they slogged away overnight, these machines are now part of the daytime soundscape. The one in York plays Waterloo Sunset as it starts, while the otherās mid-cycle interruption notification sounds like My Girl.
Hopeful dishwashers, declares Lauren.

Day 58
I fill my fountain pen with āSargasso Seaā blue ink for some fiction scribbling. My yoga and writing sessions are the one sacrosanct creative space in the week. But, last time, I used the hours to shop online for sheets. I guess I was desperate for tangible comfort. For something that would claim the bare bed and empty room upstairs as mine. Now, theyāve arrived.
Iāve gone full Byron Bay. Unbleached 100% linen. Ooooh, enthuses a friend, you could use the flat sheet as a tablecloth if you have a big dinner party in the garden. We clearly follow the same Instagram threads. I make a bedside light with an old tomato sauce bottle, removing the supermarket discount brand label ā PorSi ā with olive oil, then stuffing a length of fairy lights inside and finally knocking a jagged hole in the lid with a screwdriver.
Day 59
A single construction worker has returned to the abandoned building site across the road. Heās placed a blue beach umbrella beside the new pool making it look as if heās having a party for one. Ā In February, they drove a digger over the property wall, scooped out an Olympic amount of red earth and left. Outside the hotel on the corner I spot another lone worker lying full stretch on a second-floor wall and leaning out into space to wrestle a weed from a drainage spout. The hotel lobby is shrouded in white sheets like an aristocratic home shut-up for the off-season.
I show off my new haircut on Zoom at that nightās quiz. I booked the long-coveted cut on a facebook page filled with pictures of faceless women getting their roots retouched. The stylist wore her plastic apron medical style, while mine was tied up tight about my neck for the wash. She then slipped the neck ties through the ear loops of my mask, pulling it tight and low, before starting with the scissors. Ingenious.
No oneās even getting up at 8pm to clap the NHS anymore.

Day 60 - The End
I thought there would be more closure. More definite boundaries to the lockdown state. That I would know where it started and where it ended. I imagined concluding my lockdown journal when I was reunited with my girlfriend. A classic fade-to-black moment at the airport arrivals gate. My new beginning implied by a swirling shot of us embracing. Weāre not together, but time is moving again. Iāve felt it ticking for this past week or more. Iām no longer in the state of suspension so evident in the UK.
The day is punctuated with delivery vans pulling up. Workmen tromping in. Renovating a house is an occupation focussed on tangible targets. Befores and Afters of predictably startling difference. Thereās very little room for subtle observation. And, aside from flashes of existential crises when you realize that youāve just spent an hour seriously discussing the pros and cons of detachable kitchen taps, your consciousness does not shift an inch.
Or maybe thatās just me. All I know is that I was a part of the lockdown masses in the UK. Now Iām a corona tourist. I do a final check-in with the live webcam of falcon chicks in Warsaw thatās proved a strange bond with my stranded girlfriend. The chicks are now enormous, unattractive mounds of mottled feathers and down. One stretches its wings. Testing. I swear it was just the other day that its stubby wings caused it to overbalance and topple over.

version 2 Beneath the surface original work short story
Draft 2 āHey xā, his first Whatsapp text from September 2019 said, unread. Several more followed, unread, in the form of hi or hello followed with a varying amount of kisses after. Then, another unread text saying, āI miss uā, with a heart emoji. A text he had written a month later said, āsorry I havenāt been texting much,ā also unread. It was now November. He tapped the keyboard below his list of unread messages to Aimee, typing another message to her.
āWant to go to Costa?ā
Pocketing the phone, he rubbed his red, numb hands together, missing his bill free student accommodation heating. Dropping his groceries by the front door, he climbed up the stairs, ignoring the covered mirror behind the stairs as he ascended. Each step had one kind of empty bottle or other, mainly Kopparbergs and the occasional Strongbow.
He tried to remember if he opened the vacant bedroomās door, located in front of the stairs, but he could only remember closing it all those months ago. The wind mustāve opened it. He saw the dust inside framed by the sunlight bleeding through the open window. Before he could stop himself, he was looking around the room which still looked like a tornado had passed through it, from the clothes scattered around the floor to the stray wires drawing lines and loops into the carpet. The only tidy parts of the room were the shelf. Though it had a couple of used dishes on top, the books were alphabetically arranged by the authorsā names meticulously. From Clive Colemanās āAn introduction to Criminologyā to Tony Lawsonās āCrime and Devianceā, the shelves were arranged and cleaned like an altar to a god of knowledge.
James took a breath and turned to the bathroom beside the empty bedroom. One foot after the other, his body ignored his command and he walked closer to Benās room until he was right in front of it. His eyes landed on the Redbull in the bin and like a car crash, his memories of that night four months ago collided with the abandoned room.
He had received a text from his brother.
āElliot and I are at Geneās. There helping me proofread my essay.ā James didnāt check the time the message was sent, five minutes to one in the morning, anxiously rushing to and starting up the 1986 Corolla Ben had brought on his first year at university and drive over to Geneās student accommodation, knuckles red as he held onto the gripless steering wheel. Ben was a year older than James and had been the first to get accepted into university, so he was the one who Lance Weaver, their father, had gifted the thirty-year-old car to, passing on the torch. Considering Ben received it in 2017 and their father had used it from the beginning of his university years until then, the car was in pretty good shape. The only noticeable change to it was the replacement of the gear shift knob, exchanged for a more user-friendly version.
It was 1:10 when he finally arrived at Geneās and it wasnāt until 1:30 that he dragged Ben out and into the car, laptop and books hidden in the boot. Upon opening the door, Ben looked as dishevelled as the man in a shady street in the city centre who had offered them coke during Jameās fresher year. After a glance into Geneās room, James realised this was no doubt due to the stress from Benās rigid studying style, tiredness from staying up for over two days and the many, many, empty cans of Redbull.
āYouāre not okay,ā he said after Ben insisted there was no need to worry, āyou used the wrong version of theyāre, Mr Grammar Nazi.ā
Ben sighed, begging if he could stay just a little longer to finish the essay.
āIt isnāt due for another month! International criminal comparing can wait.ā
International criminal justice and comparative criminology, Ben had corrected in a resigned manner. Several minutes of bickering went by and it wasnāt until Gene and Elliotās shenanigans eventually turned into lighthearted reverse psychological taunting that Ben finally and reluctantly picked up his study materials and followed James to the car.
It took less than five minutes for Ben to start falling asleep, jacket rising up and down with every inhale and exhale. He would adjust his position from time to time, causing the lightweight frame of the car to shift. James recalled as he waited for the stoplight to turn green, the BMW he rode in once which belonged to his friendās parent, its Bluetooth radio able to turn on via simple voice command. But a car like that would take him years to save up for, so the cassette player would have to do until then. He skimmed through the many cassettes lying around the car. Losing my religion was Benās favourite out of R.E.Mās songs. Summer of 69 was a shared favourite of theirs. Finally, his eyes landed on Roxetteās Dangerous, stuffed into the visor and looking like it would fall out if he left it. The familiar power chords played as he looked up, swearing when he realised the lights were green and changed gears.
When he turned to the second exit, the car lurched to the right, as if his right wheel had rolled over a speed bump and a loud bang shot through the carās frame like a bullet. āYouāve got your bag, you take control,ā Roxette sang as Jamesā seat jerked up and down as if he were in an earthquake and the car swayed to the right. Jamesā hand flew to the gear stick, pulling it back, but as the lyrics, āI wonāt be walking through thin ice,ā started playing, the car continued to sway across the road, drawing dancing spirals into the concrete with the wheelās rubber.
Gripping onto the thin steering wheel, James took deep breaths, steering in the opposite direction every time the car swayed. āHold on tight,ā the chorus began, as the car continued spiralling out of control on the empty road. The last thing he remembered was Ben, still asleep as they were thrown into a traffic barrier.
On December 13th 2018, Andrea Weaver had taken a test at her GP and shortly after, was scheduled for a mammogram. The results were sent through first-class royal mail and the opened letter was poking out of her bagās outer pocket. Andrea had returned to the hospital in January, but not for the reason she had expected. Who could expect a tyre blowout at 1 in the morning to leave both of their sons in the hospital? She now sat between the boysā hospital beds, bag by her feet and diary in her lap, scribbling away as the heart monitor beep, beep, beeped away. These days she spent more time in the hospital than she did in her own home, whether that be for her appointments or to see her boys and do anything from reading or watching movies with them, to writing in her diary as she was now, waiting for them to wake. As she turned the page, she noticed the heart monitorsā speed by Jamesā bed had increased ever so slightly. At first, she thought it was a figment of her imagination, sitting as still as a statue while she listened for the next thirty seconds, her heartbeat pounding in her ears. It had definitely picked up its speed, to a slightly shorter pause between beeps, but that had happened before, maybe James was having a bad dream, or something was wrong with his blood pressure. As she was about to call for a nurse, a deep wheezing breath escaped Jamesā lips. Pen dropping to the floor, she called for help as James struggled to breathe through the endotracheal tube from his throat
Like a corpse risen from the dead, James had awoken. He couldnāt remember much, but as soon as the doctor was satisfied with James vitals and the tube had been removed, his mother had explained the whole event, from the tire blowout to his waking up, and Benās still unconscious state. James tried to follow his mothersā gaze but found his head as heavy as a rock and instead glanced out of the corner of his eye to where Ben lay, his heart monitor slow and unchanging. James couldnāt process anything else his mother said as he saw Ben in his own cold, hard bed and Ben was all James could think of. He didnāt think of the weight pinning his limbs to the bed whenever he tried to move, or the nurses pulling him back when he tried rolling off the bed. James couldnāt put up much of a struggle when the nurses pulled him back, the weight of his tormented soul pulling him down for them as he recalled the events of the 10th of January 2019. He felt a sharp pain in his arm, before collapsing to the bed. Before falling into a daysā long sleep, he swore he saw Ben staring back at him from behind the nurses.
James opened his eyes and he was staring into his reflection in the full body mirror inside Benās room. Taking a deep breath, he closed the door, his body finally responding to his wishes to go to the toilet next to the room. Just after locking the door out of habit rather than a necessity, he checked his texts again, still unread by Aimee. As he unzipped himself and aimed into the toilet, he wondered when the last time they had met was. Was it September? Or was it before then? He couldnāt recall the last time they had watched a movie or gone out to dinner together.
Tucking himself back in and zipping up, he moved to the sink, washing his hands with the Tesco branded soap. As he dried his hands off with a towel, he made the mistake of looking into the still exposed mirror, his empty eyes staring back at him with a glower and mouth open in a soundless scream. Unresponsive to the reflectionās show, James released the towel, exiting the toilet. Walking down the stairs, he glanced to a room whose door he definitely remembered closing and was still closed, unlike the dust-filled room he dragged himself away from as he headed towards his groceries left at the main door.
Before he could start walking towards the kitchen, his phone started ringing.
āHello?ā James held the phone with one hand, groceries in another as he walked into the kitchen.
āHi,ā no quip or obscure pop reference for a greeting, no taunting or mockery, just, hi. James never thought he would miss Nickās usual greetings. James put the call on speaker as he sorted his groceries and cleared the kitchen counter of the Guinness Draughts and Spitfires scattered across it to prepare his lunch.
āItās good to hear from you,ā James said after a long silence.
āYeah, we need to meet up again at some point. My mumās dinner offer still stands.ā
āThanks,ā James put the speaker on before walking over to the dish drying rack in front of the kitchen window and grabbing a chopping board, āIāll think about it.ā
Looking up for a brief second, James once again caught the gaze of his reflection in the mirror, rolling its eyes at him, before he grabbed a chopping knife and turned to the kitchen table again.
āUh-huh. By the way, my mum visited your brother today. She said she wanted to just visit your mother, but I guess she was hoping sheād bump into you.ā
āThat would explain the new flowers and her clean grave. Tell her I say thanks.ā
āOf course. Anything for an old friend. I wanted to make this clear if I hadnāt before if you need anything, call me anytime and Iāll be there for you.ā
James opened his mouth to say something, shutting it, before eventually saying, āthank you. That means a lot.ā
āHow are you doing by the way?ā
āIām coping,ā James said, ignoring his reflection as it looked at the bottles littered around the various surfaces of the kitchen as he prepared water and turned on the stove. He returned to the chopping board and held the onion firm, knife at the ready.
āHow about Ben?ā Chop.
āHeās still in a coma.ā
āDo you think heāll wake up?ā Chop.
āHeās stable.ā
āEveryoneās asking about you,ā James froze.
āThey want to know how youāre doing, how Benās doing and if heāll wake up. Iāve told them what I know from you. Loads of people have told me theyāve visited him but everyone says that they can never find you.ā James had been staying at home since the accident, opting to take a gap year and a grant while in the recovery process. Not going out wasnāt necessary anymore, but he stayed inside by choice. Without noticing, he had unfrozen and continued chopping the onion.
āI go out for morning runs,ā he lied, āand groceries. Other than that, I stay inside.ā James mumbled, āItās been lonely.ā
āWhat was that?ā Chop.
āNothing,ā he said, turning on the stove with the frying pan now heād cut up half of the onion, āIāve been catching up on my reading and binge-watching to pass the time.ā
āI wish I could do that. Iāve got to go, but call me anytime if you need to talk and I promise Iāll pick up.ā
āOkay. Iāll talk to you later.ā
āBye.ā With dry eyes, James collected the diced onion into a pile on the side of the chopping board.
The water was boiling now and James dropped the pasta in. With swift efficiency, he prepared the sauce. Garlic and bacon having already been cut and prepared, he poured them and the onion into the large frying pan as the smell of cooking pasta filled the kitchen. Now the water was boiling, the windows had fogged, obscuring his reflection from view and he was finally alone in peace, stirring the onions, garlic and bacon until they browned and softened. The repetitive movement in activities like cooking, James had noticed, allowed his mind to clear of anxieties. The clockwise circles of his stirring and the ambient noise of the boiling water and frying oil brought something that wasnāt exactly peace, but something akin to silence.
Soon he was sitting in his room, steaming plate of food now empty and laptop on, The Notebook playing as Allie asked why Duke had just called her ādarlingā. The last time he had watched this was with Aimee and he was surprised to find his eyes water and cheeks stained with tears. It was the only movie that, when he watched it the first and second times, made him cry. Now, he watched the same ending that caused him to unravel and though he didnāt fixate on this fact, James shed no tears. As Allie screamed for the nurses to let her go, Jamesā phone started buzzing. The call was from Aimee but before he could pick up, it turned off.
He tapped the call button, dial tone ringing as he put it on speaker. All he heard was her voicemail. Sighing, he hung up, just after a push notification showed him a message from her.
āSorry I couldnāt pick up,ā it read before the text bubble with three dots appeared, jumping one by one for what felt like hours, before she finally typed, āthis isnāt working out. I donāt want to date you anymore.ā James paused. Shutting his eyes, he took a deep breath and looked at the phone again to see two unsent texts from her, āIām sorry. I hope youāre ok. Iām sure youāll find someone else.ā Did James want someone else? He started typing.
āWhy?ā As soon as he sent it, he deleted it.
āFine.ā Again he sent it and again he deleted it. Finally, he typed, āI understand. Iām fine. Iām sorry we werenāt working out. I hope you find someone you can be happy with.ā Sent and read by Aimee, whoās icon indicated immediately after that she was offline. Turning off the phone, he saw his reflection in its dark screen, cheeks stained with tears, though he knew his eyes were dry as a desert. Taking a deep, steadying breath, he brought his plate to the dish-filled sink in the kitchen, before quickly turning to the vodka-filled decanter and glass. He poured the vodka into his glass, drowning the memories of the surprise in Benās face when he unwrapped the bulky present and the memories of many subsequent parties after as James drank the liqueur, alone, in one go. Out of the corner of his eye, James saw the windows, clear of fog, his reflection catching his gaze as it sipped from the glass, before turning away in shame.
James went to his call history, finding Nickās name as the second name from the top. He tapped it, putting the speaker on as the dial tone rang, āhello,ā the automatic voicemail message started, āIām sorry but the person youāre calling is-ā James hung up, taking a long drink from his glass. Ā In less than fifteen minutes, the decanter was half-empty. James placed the decanter beside his glass on the table once more, steadying himself with one hand. As he picked up his glass, his phone rang, screen lighting up with the word Unknown. Taking a quick sip, James answered.
āHello?ā He said, voice coming out slightly deeper than normal, āyes,ā James responded to the caller, dragging out the āsā as if he were a snake. As the caller continued, Jamesā brow furrowed, āI see,ā the grip on his glass tightened as he caught himself looking out the window and staring at his reflection, watching with indifference as it screamed soundlessly once more, āyes, Iāll be free tomorrow. I understand. Iāll see you then Doctor. Goodbye.ā As soon as he hung up, he called Nick, waiting as the phone rang, only to be greeted with the familiar message, āHello, Iām sorry but the person youāre calling is not available at the moment. Please hang up or leave a message after the tone. When you have finished recording, press the hash key for more options.ā
āNick,ā he said after a deep breath, āDr Morgan just called. He said Benās⦠Ben,ā why couldnāt he say it? āCall me.ā He hung up, reaching for the decanter, pausing, then turning to his phone once more and calling Aimee. Voicemail. Of course. Of course, he was sent straight to voicemail. His lip curled into a bitter smile as a chuckle crawled out of his mouth. Why would Aimee pick up? His chuckle turned into a looping cackle as he recalled Nickās oath to listen to him anytime he called, leaning against the cold glass of his empty cup. Hearing his phone thud to the floor after he had unwittingly loosened his grip on it, he bent down to grab it, noticing the voicemail icon for the first time. Unlocking his phone, he called his voicemail, putting his phone to his ear.
āWelcome to your voicemail. You have two saved messages. First saved message received Monday 15th July: Hi James, its mum,ā the glass in Jamesā hand slipped ever so slightly, the clear drink inside spilling onto the floor as the message continued, āIām at the store now. What did you want?ā The voicemail ended, āto save the message, press one-ā James did as instructed, waiting for the second message to play, ā-received Thursday, 12th September: Where are you?ā The glass in Jamesā hand fell, the screams of the glass shattering into fragmented shards rang ignored as he listened, eyes brimming with tears, āIām at platform one now but I canāt - oh nevermind there you are. James! Over here! James!ā Like a dam breaking, his tears fell onto his once dry cheeks as his mother called out his name over and over again, she called as he cried, telling him, āIām here James!ā

Cutie Reviews: Kawaii Box March 20
I just wanted to mention that tomorrow Iāll be busy, so my plan is to hopefully get the next review posted on Tuesday.Ā

Word of the month: fantaji - fantasyĀ
Event of the Month: March 3rd is āHinamatsuriā in Japan, a doll festival that has also become known as āGirls Dayā over time.Ā Ā
āDelve into the world of magical cuteness with this kawaii haul!ā
Some months back we had a magical girl themed box that I was pretty fond out. I love fantasy-themes, magical girls, etc. So letās see how this one holds up in comparison!
Fantasy Jellyfish Plush

Our first item is this really frilly-looking Jellyfish plush. It has a sort of bean-bag body, so itās really fun to squeeze. Around the body are pieces of white lace and pastel strands coming in yellow, pink, and blue. It has a small loop so that you can attach it to various items.
It was available in green, pink, purple, and yellow, but right now on Blippo.com itās only in yellow. It costs $6.90. Itās a Blippo/Kawaii Box exclusive. The quality of the plush seems to be really nice.
You guys know Iām not a big fan of yellow, but this is too cute x3 I donāt have a name for her at the moment, nothings really sounded right yet.
Shiny Galaxy & Magical Girl Washi Stickers

Our next item is this really cute set of sticker sheets. You get 4, each featuring different designs and characters, including some small fillers like gold stars. Several stickers include gold outlines or detail.
I couldnāt find this set on Blippo at the time, but itās by the brand Treein Art, a brand Iām finding myself becoming a bigger fan of with each item in our box. Itās so pretty and magical looking~
Disney Fruit Gummies

Meiji are the producers of these fun, cute-shaped gummies. Which right away, as you can tell are not as bright as whatās on the package. It doesnāt make a difference but some people like it when you point out those details, so I try to if I notice any significant difference.
Anyway, these gummies are made from various red fruits/vegetables: tomato, strawberry, and apple. They also include a lot of calcium, so theyāre pretty good for kids. They come in many cute shapes famous to the Mickey branding, such as mickeyās head, Minnieās head, and circles with bows, stars, hearts, or mickey heads on them. The entire bag is 133kcal, and is resealable.
I couldnāt find these on Blippo right now, but youāre not missing too much honestly. For someone like me who hates tomato, I found these to be okay. They remind me of a juice box flavor with a tomato note at the end. I didnāt like these a lot, but they were much better than those apple-tomato gummies I got a while back <_<
Colorful Candy Cup Keychain

We got another Blippo exclusive in the box, this one featuring adorable non-edible candies in a cup that you can attach to whatever you want. Besides these pastel stars, you could also get one filled with konpeito, or jellybeans in various sizes.
All three of them are very cute in my opinion, but right now only the star cup is available for purchase on the website. It costs $3.90. But I also saw some other cup keychains on the website, like the creamy milk tea collection, and the frozen drinks.
I used to collect keychains when I was younger, and Iām still pretty fond of them now; I really like this. Itās a lot of fun to shake around too.
Fluffy Sanrio Character Headband

If you read my recent NMNL review, you might recall that I just got a fluffy headband. Today, we get this adorable Hello Kitty themed one, which feels pretty similar and was even packaged the same way.
I couldnāt find this one on Blippo.com either, but thatās just to be expected when a box is nearly a year old.
In comparison to the other one, this one felt a lot tighter. It has a stretchy band on the back, just as the other did, and Iām pretty sure I donāt have a big head. But this was kind of uncomfortable, even without tucking it beneath my hair. It was uncomfortable, but for maybe 10 minutes it would be tolerable.
Dreamy Unikitty Notebook & Magical Girl Star Wand Pen

This pastel themed notebook is a sale item on Blippo.com at the time, being only $2.45 instead of its original $3.50 pricing. There are 4 possible designs, all of which are available.
Besides itās cute design, what I like about this notebook is that itās compact for easier carrying, and it has a matte covering to help protect it a little from moisture that could possibly damage it, but you can remove that if you donāt like it. Also, there are 4 sections within the book that feature 2 different, unique designs on each side. The pages are lined, so this would be purrfect as a diary or various lists.
ā„ ā„ ā„ ā„ ā„ ā„
To go with our magical theme, we have this pretty pen featuring a clear colored (mine looks white, but it has a faint purple or pink tint) tube with a gold winged loop on top with a gem star in the middle. This was available in a few colors, the gold detailing of the loop is lovely~
Itās a basic black-ink fine tip, and for as pretty as it is, I have to point out the obvious glaring flaw (depending on who you ask): the cap doesnāt fit on the end.
Shiba-Inu Wonderland Multipurpose Pouch

Our last item is also on sale right now for $2.03 on Blippo.com. This is a thin pouch featuring 4 unique Shiba Inu designs, from this pattern to larger designs. Each has a pastel zipper and pull.
ā„ Cutie Ranking ā„
Content - ā„ ā„ ā„ ā„ After being disappointed by the previous -destroyed- box, I feel like this one was a lot better. The items are of good quality and very cute, fun, good sizing, pricing is fine. If anything, I kind of wish we got a different accessory, because I know for a fact they have all sorts of clips that would have fit this theme better- and because I just got a headband for the same purpose in another box.Ā
Theme - ā„ ā„ ā„ I love this theme concept, but in comparison to the last time they went with a fantasy-magical theme, I felt like they pulled it off better last time. The front of the booklet shows a winged-unicorn/pegasus with horn/alicorn, but thereās nothing of the sort in the items (does unikitty count?). The color scheme of most items go well with the theme yeah, but a handful of items donāt really suit it in my opinion.
Total Rank: 8 out of 10 Cuties. Definitely a step up from the prior Kawaii Box, but not as good as a previous themed one that was similar to it. I do like the items, and if I didnāt have the previous themed box like this one i probably would have liked it a lot more. I would still recommend the items though, the ones still on Blippo.com that is :P
Before I go, I wanted to mention that I was considering ordering from Blippo.com again! If you enjoy those posts, you can possibly look forward to that later in the month/next month.

Sakura releases new single āCirclesā
Drawing inspiration from the alternative 90ās, 80ās synth pop and 70ās folk to create an ethereal universe of dreamy and distorted soundscapes, Sakura pens hard hitting, yet vulnerable music that allows listeners to gain insight into her world.
Japanese and Chinese by blood, born and raised in Hong Kong, matured in London and currently based in Vienna, she crafts with her heart on her sleeve. Candid lyricism ranging from topics of social and political significance, to a dear diary, matter-of-fact approach covering love, heartbreak and everything in between, Sakura defies genre and sensibility to create her own brand of emotionally compelling indie rock. Ā
"āCircles' explores the everyday struggle with mental health issues in a super honest, and unfiltered way," explains Sakura. "Musically I had a lot of fun combining pop structures and melodies with an experimental soundscape, taking inspiration from shoegaze, emo, and late 90s/ early y2k pop rock. Lyrically its about feeling like shit, almost disassociated from your everyday life and just going through the motions of it all. You see other people going about their day and look at yourself and wonder if youāre doing something wrong and kinda beat yourself up over it. Which definitely doesnāt help! So youāre just stuck in this infinite loop, going in circles. I wanted to capture that feeling, but also that it's important to recognise these toxic mental habits and that its okay to live life a little slower sometimes."

View From The Drum Stool #41
Originally posted on MikeDolbear.com, 15/03/17
Greetings all from Oxford, UK where it looks like spring has finally sprung!
So enticing was the sun today that I decided I would head out across the beautiful Port Meadow with the aim of putting pen to paper over a pint at The Perch on the other side.
Well what started out as a pleasant stroll along paved paths first fragmented into gravel and then disintegrated into dirt. As the trail took me into the woods the damp shade turned everything to mud and before I knew it I was up to my ankles in filth and sludge. I guess the suede brogues werenāt the best choice but in life as in the road to The Perch you never know whatās around the corner ⦠it could be sunny green pastures or it could be more mud.

ā The path to The Perch - at least the daffs are out
Case in point: last months Astra disaster (disAstraā¦?). Thanks to the many who offered kind words and condolences on the loss of my faithful faded-red four-wheeler as she departed for a better place. Iām glad to report that Iām back on the road and with unintentional loyalty to the Vauxhall brand have replaced her with a Vectra estate for a bargain Ā£850 (I guess itāll be a Zafira next?).
A true beast in size, I can finally start touring that second kick drum Iāve always dreamed of!
Iām fortunate to have a fair amount in the diary music-wise at the moment and as such relinquished my latest temp-job last Friday. After a six-week shift in the office it was time to bid my cherished colleagues goodbye and fill my days with drums once again.
For many years now Iāve relied upon temporary jobs for a source of income when the gigs ānā tours ānā recording dates arenāt there. Iād suggest it to anyone who needs a convenient and fairly reliable source of work between engagements. Iāve a couple of agencies who take care of me and though the work may not be the most glamorous, they tend to be flexible and get me the work when I need it.

ā Iāll miss this chap who joined me for coffee most mid mornings
Plus a few weeks in the office is also a really great motivator to get practicing and I was glad to put down the mouse and pick up the sticks again!
On my daily commutes I was oft accompanied by Led Zeppelin IV, an album that needs no introduction to the drum community. Iām really into the roomy drum sound (Iām sure Iām not the only one), in particular the toms. Check out When The Levee BreaksĀ circa 5:10 as an example of some cool sounding tones around the kit.
Off I disappeared down a rabbit hole of research and ended up at this interesting article on the subject by 'T Bruce Wittet'.
He raises some thought-provoking points about tom tunings and the physics behind how the sound travels. In short, low frequencies don't travel well. As T Bruce explains (via a good anecdote courtesy of Dave Mattacks) āPerceived pitch also lowers the further you move away from the signal sourceā meaning that although a tom tuned higher may sound a bit 'boingy' up close, what you hear as you get farther away can be quite different, indeed quite full and rounded sounding.
I think it's interesting - and valuable - to understand how drums sound different (and in what way) depending on where you are relative to them (I'm still figuring out bass traps...).
For situations where the toms are close micād (for example in a decent recording studio or at larger gig) I figure it's not such a problem but where there isnāt such a facility (smaller pub gigs or a rehearsal) the toms can probably benefit from being tuned higher, thus projecting a nicer tone.

Ā āĀ Rogers at the ready, toms cranked
And if you're looking to record more a roomy drum sound (i.e. to be reliant on the room mics in the mix a la John Bonham) then itās worth ensuring during the tracking that the toms are coming through well on those microphones - which will probably be helped by tuning them up a few steps.
But of course these things always come down to taste and itās ultimately all about the situation and the song.
And no matter how high you tune your toms the Bonham sound is always going to be more to do with his incredible style and technique - not to mention huge drums and amazing band! Though an interesting consideration nonetheless.
On the subject of drum sounds I was excited this week to hear the final mixes of an album Iāve been recording over the last 6 months with my friend Willie J Healey.

āĀ Don't get me started on bass tones...
The album was mixed at Wilcoās studio āThe Loftā in Chicago by their engineer and producer Tom Schick. I was intrigued to hear what he had done and was totally delighted by the cool lo-fi vibe, using Wilcoās real-life plate reverb on some of the drum tracks to make something unique and fitting. I feel really proud of that album and am excited to share it with the world later this year.
Meanwhile back at the ranch the diaryās looking full and I'm optimistic about about March and April with a bunch of gigs dotted about the country (and a couple beyond!).
And although I never did make it to The Perch - it turned out the route Iād chosen looped right back around to where Iād started - the weatherās looking good for tomorrow so I guess Iāll just get up early and try again.
Until April,
Mike
