Wonder Woman '58: Player Three Has Entered The Game
This is Wonder Woman #98, the first appearance of Wonder Woman on Earth-One. For some reason, it's all about capitalism. Welcome to the Gutters.

Comic book fans talk about DC stories taking place on Earth-1 or Earth-2, but that's very anachronistic thinking. I wrote that Superman #76 was the first meeting of Earth-1 Batman and Superman, but the creators weren't thinking of them existing in a separate universe as the ones from the 40s. They just wanted to write a story about Batman meeting Superman and didn't feel a need to be bound to continuity.
With this issue of Wonder Woman, we have what appears to be clear creative intent to break away from the old stories and start fresh. Harry G. Peter, the original Wonder Woman artist, passed away on January 2, 1958. (Original writer William Moulton Marston had passed away in 1947.) Art duties fell to the team of Ross Andru and Mike Esposito, who had been working with the current Wonder Woman writer Robert Kanigher on DC's war comics. All three would have very long careers in comics that we don't really have time to go into in this tumbloo post.
The story in this issue is a new version of Wonder Woman's origin, and that of the Amazons in general. The Golden Age Wonder Woman origin sets up their mythological origins as relates to dominance and submission, as well as Wonder Woman herself being born out of a clay statue imbued with life and powers by the gods. This version excises some of that, and seemingly depicts Wonder Woman as no different in nature from any other Amazon.
Well, except that everyone else wears pseudo-greek clothes and Diana wears the Wonder Woman costume around. She knows she's the protag, she's just waiting for everyone else to catch up.
Also different is that the original Wonder Woman was explicitly tied to WWII, where this version of the character is contemporary. Instead of being forced into action by the war, Wonder Woman is now summoned to be a hero by the goddess Athena. DC likes to put twists on their origin stories whenever they make a new one, which is just not confusing at all.
Diana enters herself in the contest to become the Amazons' champion. To prevent her mother from playing favorites, all of the other Amazons disguise themselves as her. This is a pretty clever narrative trick, as through the next few pages of trials we don't actually know if the person we're watching is going to win or not. However, it's Diana's book so she proves herself the best. Her first mission - to earn a million dollars for charity in a single day with only a penny.
Before she can even think about leaving the island, the comic goes "but now THIS is happening!" A fighter pilot flying over the island randomly explodes, and Wonder Woman has to leap into action to save the pilot. This, of course, turns out to be Steve Trevor, her classic love interest. He's kind of an irrelevant character without the war on, but he mostly sticks to the background.
The sequence where she rescues Steve is wonderful, I love the expression on her face when she realizes this might not work. This is also a good illustration of how she's different from, say, Superman. They're both powerful, but Superman is overly powerful, to the point where most tasks are almost effortless. Wonder Woman is somewhat more limited in her powers, and she has to make up for it by using her abilities creatively.
There's the common thought about Superman being too powerful to be interesting, and I think that's kind of reductive. I think that being too powerful is what makes Superman interesting. He has more power than he knows what to do with. Wonder Woman is more in line with the classical Greek heroes, where she never has Too Much power, but she always has Enough. Consider Hercules. If Hercules needs to, he has Enough power to hold up the sky, but he never has Too Much power that wrestling a lion or wrestling a boar is trivial.
Wonder Woman flies Steve Trevor back to the "Twin Cities," which I guess means she took him all the way back to Minnesota? I can't see why anyone would go there, but okay. Conveniently, she finds a contest to throw a coin across the river and win $1,000. She immediately loses the coin to a small child, and has to show off with a jump rope to get it back. I like the gag with the gumball machine, and I love when superheroes are good with kids. Even Batman's good with kids!
Wonder Woman throws the penny over the river, but the coin goes too high and an eagle catches it out of the air. She ropes the bird with her lasso to get it back, and this bird is somehow able to lift her into the air and fly her over the river. The bird drops the penny and Wonder Woman falls into the water, and... well, look.
So, the unspecified enemy sent a submarine all the way up the Mississippi river on a mission to nuke Minneapolis. I don't. I don't know what to say to that. I get the feeling that this story was intended to be set during the war and this was a Nazi sub, but at some point it was changed to take place in the present day of 1958, when the politics were incredibly different.
I can only assume that some KGB warlock in Soviet Russia consulted the oracular head of Rasputin, who told him that there would be a massive revolution in 1999. The only way to avoid this disaster would be to strike down the leader known only as "Prince" and prevent his purple reign. Something something raspberry beret.
So, the cold war just got hot, but Wonder Woman is able to prevent it from going nuclear. She drags the... torpedo? missile? The writer of this story normally does war comics so I would expect him to know the difference. Whatever unholy ordnance hybrid it is, Wonder Woman brings it to a halt on the beach, and spins fast enough that she fuses it completely with the sand. But she has to go back.
For the penny.
This time, Wonder Woman takes no prisoners. When it fires on her again, she dodges and feints until the submarine blows itself up with its own torpedo. Wonder Woman killed dozens of people and the only thing she's worried about is her lost penny. That's cold. And I remind you, this was in 1958. Batman and Superman still had iron-clad no-kill policies, and Wonder Woman just blew up a submarine because they took her penny.
Wonder Woman feels that all is lost, until one of the children she saved finds the penny in his fishing net. She tries for the rest of the day to make a million dollars out of it, probably through a series of improbable trades, but nobody bites. Just when the time is up, she overhears that the city department of transportation only has a million dollars in its budget to build a new suspension bridge.
This may seem like a small amount of money in today's money, and it was not that much bigger in 1958 money either. The cost of the Golden Gate Bridge was somewhere around $17 million, and that was in 1939 dollars. They may as well use that penny.
And that's exactly what she did. Using her amazonian super-strength she somehow turns the copper in a single coin into enough metal to build a whole-ass bridge across the Mississippi.
I did say before that she wasn't overly powerful, like Superman. I stand by that. Because there is the matter of tone. Superman is an alien, he's fundamentally a character based on science. Whenever his powers have a negative side effect, it's usually described in scientific terms. It can make the fantastic easy to accept, but you have to have a certain kind of logic to it for the readers to accept it.
Wonder Woman isn't just a character based on magic, she's a character based on myths. Mythology always has an element of characters doing feats that utterly defy explanation. Hercules holding up the sky, Thor drinking the ocean, Paul Bunyan shoveling out the great lakes. Wonder Woman is built on that mythological framework. If she wants to utterly demolish physics so her story can have a happy ending, she can do that because that's the kind of story this is.
So yeah, I think this comic was excellent. DC never treated Wonder Woman as the cash cow that Batman and Superman are, and on some level that's disrespectful, but it lets her have more of a personality to her stories. I feel like we see more about who Wonder Woman is as a person in this one issue than we do in several months worth of Batman or Superman comics.
We're going to see how long that lasts! Because Wonder Woman doesn't have the absolute glut of comics that Super-Bat and Man-Man have, we're going to take a closer look at her stories. Until next time!

“I want to use specific names for colours/shades but I don’t know many!” Hahaha sakira has got you! If you want to add colour to the objects or stuff in your writing you shouldn’t just write it like this
“Her dress was red” “His eyes were purple”
That makes your writing bland, it dumbs down the readers imagination during reading. Instead describe the colour like this
“Her dress was like a cup of Rooibos tea under a sunlit day”
“His eyes could be compared to that of a raven’s deep violet eyes”
(tip: amethyst is an overused word, there’s a list of other purple words below you should check out)
You can describe colours using objects because it will give shape to the sentence but don’t always go too detailed. If you make one sentence with a lot of adjectives and everything then don’t over use it in the other sentence that’s is.
But remember to use a simile like “as” or “like” if you do use objects.
I already wrote “Her dress was like a cup of Rooibos tea under a sunlit day” so next time when I mention the dress’s colour again I am going to write something like this
“Her garnet dress flowed in the wind”
Why? Because simple sentenced always enchance the writing and gives reader a feeling.
now that we are done with how to write colours let’s see some synonyms!!
white- bleached , colourless , pearly , milky , snowy, ivory , salt , Lacey , linen , frosty, daisy parchment , porcelain, cotton , rice bone
black- ebony, midnight, jade , spider , coal , pitch black, void , empty, sooty , obsidian , metal, onyx , ink , crow
grey- shadow, ash , graphite , foggy, dove , silver , dull, cloud ,slate, iron, smoke, pebble
red- garnet, blush , Merlot , cherry , crimson, rose, sangria, bloody, berry , currant, terracotta, jam , merlot
orange- tangerine , ginger , apricot, autumn , spice , amber, rust, marmalade, pumpkin , carrot , clay, golden , copper , ochre
yellow- gold, canary , light , butterscotches, dandelion, honey , blonde, corn, saffron , ocher, buttermilk
green- beryl , viridescent , olive , emerald , pickle, leafy , sage , lime , pear , mint, mignonette, glaucous
blue- ocean , aqua , cobalt, navy , sapphire, admiral, denim , cerulean, indigo , lapis , peacock, aegean, azure , turquoise, cyan , arctic
purple - amethyst , raven , violet ,lilac , lavender, plum , magenta ,orchid , mulberry, heather, raisin, amaranthine , eggplant , iris , periwinkle
pink- blush , cherry blossom , taffy , peach, flamingo , rosey , salmon , fuscia, rosewood , pale red
IMPORTANT : remember to do GOOD research on shades!! You need to know which one you can use as an adjective and which one is a noun. If it’s a noun turn it into adjective, if it cannot be turned into an adjective then use a simile.
There’s more and if you know put it in the reblogs

so, serious question—how many bunnies does sunshine actually have by the end of part one? and do they all have names? i kind of want a list of the bunny names and their colors, i’m not gonna lie. also: which bunny do you think is her actual favorite?
each bunny is a piece of haeun’s story, a secret badge of love from every soul who wanted her to know: she’s never, ever alone. her actual favorite? every bunny’s name is recited nightly by you and the staff, a soft, familiar litany that means home. by the age of two, haeun knows every single one of the names of her bunnies.
cloud — pale blue with white velvet ears, soft as sky at dawn. the first bunny, gifted by jihoon at the naming ceremony to cheer you up after a loss. always perched by her head at night.
egg yolk — lemon yellow, belly round and plush, stitched by you and named in a delirious moment of laughter during her first post-op recovery. the only bunny she ever tried to feed milk to.
mochi — pearl white with floppy lavender ears, a gentle face and squishy belly. a gift from the radiology nurse who soothed her through her first mri, meant to “hold the brave.”
marshmallow — pink and chubby, with a tiny green ribbon. given by hayoung after sunshine’s second surgery, to remind her of “sweetness after pain.” often found in the bed with her on hard nights.
tangerine — bright orange, with a mischievous grin and a tail that crinkles. won at the hospital carnival by dayoung, who swears it brought luck during the great cupcake disaster.
sprout — moss green, with oversized feet and a single brown patch over one eye. this one came from the nicu volunteer who played guitar in the mornings. sunshine always claps when sprout’s near.
snowdrop — pure white and tiny, a replica of the bunny that was lost (and ripped) during the commotion with aseul. you tracked down the exact model to restore her collection; sunshine greeted her like a lost friend.
peach — blush pink, with a leaf-green bow and embroidered cheeks. stitched by you on the night the adoption papers were signed, a promise of new beginnings.
butterscotch — golden yellow, the softest one, brought by hyejin after her first fever broke. sunshine always reaches for this one when she’s tired.
twilight — deep purple with sparkling silver thread, gifted by the night-shift nurses who whispered wishes for dreamless sleep. hidden under her pillow for courage.
buttons — baby blue, with mismatched eyes (one real button, one stitched). a quirky, beloved favorite made by a peds tech during a snowstorm lockdown, when supplies were low.
cricket — tiny, dark brown with a squeaker in its paw. jihoon snuck this one into her crib as a joke. she chews on its ear when teething.
sunbeam — soft yellow and white striped, a get-well gift from dr. choi in surgery. it glows in the sunlight, making her giggle every morning.
lilac — lavender, tiny silver bell stitched around its neck. given by the charge nurse after sunshine’s third surgery—meant to “keep the monsters away.”
basil — sage green with brown paws, from the nicu gardener who tends the rooftop garden. sunshine holds this one when she visits the flowers.
acorn — chestnut brown, small and round. stitched by a child from the oncology ward, who wrote her a note: “everyone deserves a friend.”
mooncake — ivory, embroidered with golden stars across its back, a parting gift from the hospital director before discharge. sunshine keeps this one closest on her last night.
maple — chestnut brown, silky-soft, ears too big for its tiny head. daddy bought this one for haeun on his first solo grocery run after realizing he couldn’t imagine life without her. she sleeps with it tucked under her chin, safe as secrets.
polar — snowy white, blue scarf, blue ribbon stitched over one eye. daddy learned to knit just to make this for haeun after her first wobbly steps; it’s a little uneven, but she holds it tight on stormy nights.
pebble — dove gray, little heart patch on its tummy. a perfect copy of daddy’s old childhood bunny, sewn in the quiet, worried hours after her second surgery. when she found it in her crib, she squealed so loud the nurses came running.
lemon drop — butter yellow, round belly, ears embroidered with lemon slices. daddy gave this to haeun the day she pulled herself upright, wobbling and grinning, and now she chews on the ear when she’s sleepy.
echo — striped silver and white, with a soft bell inside. “for when i can’t be there,” daddy said, so she’d always hear something gentle at bedtime. the bell’s hush is the soundtrack to her naps.
big blue — navy plush, extra-long ears, tag that says ‘love you forever’. appeared the night daddy first said “my daughter” and meant it. haeun snuggled so deep into this bunny she left a line of drool across its nose.
espresso — deep brown, tiny glasses perched on its nose. from jeno, who told haeun “even princesses need study buddies.” she immediately tried to eat the glasses.
honeybell — soft gold, sun embroidered over its heart. back to you!yn stitched “brave” inside its ear for haeun and tucked in a note she’ll only open when she’s older.
moon dancer — pale lilac, tiny tutu with pearls. from karina, who spun the bunny and made haeun giggle so hard she hiccuped for ten minutes.
pirouette — white, sparkly shoes, lavender ribbon. shotaro and ryujin chose this ballerina bunny for their honorary stage manager.
strawberry — blush-pink, tiny felt seeds on its ears. mark and areum picked this out at a farmer’s market when they took her out for a day—now, when haeun squeezes it, it plays a tiny recorded giggle.
mango — yellow-orange, fuzzy stem, sleepy embroidered eyes. from donghyuck, chenle, and ningning, who chipped in their night-shift tips and sang a mango bunny lullaby while tucking her in.
juniper — green and white stripes, a tiny ‘j’ on its foot. from junie, her cousin, who left it for her with a whisper: “so you always have a friend on brave nights.”
every bunny in haeun’s crib is a talisman—proof that her first year of life was stitched together by dozens of hands, all trying to mend what the world tore apart. sometimes it seems like too many, a ridiculous kingdom of softness and floppy ears spilling from her bed, but everyone who meets her finds themselves needing to add to the collection. maybe it’s superstition, maybe it’s guilt, maybe it’s just the way she looks at you—eyes wide as galaxies, fingers reaching for comfort, babbling, “bun-bun? more bun-bun?” until you surrender whatever small token you can.
her bunnies are her sentries and her storytellers, her friends when the ward is empty at night and the world outside feels too sharp. she tugs them into a pile, wrapping her chubby arms around as many as she can, pressing her nose to each one in turn as if cataloguing their secret scent: lavender from the laundry, bubblegum from the volunteer’s perfume, the faint ghost of antiseptic and sunshine. sometimes she can’t choose, so she drags them by the ears—wobbling and triumphant—across the floor to show you, babbling, “look! all mine! bun-bun happy!”
there’s a reverence to the way she holds them, a kind of royal gravity, as if she knows they’re not just toys but proof: she’s loved, she’s wanted, she’s survived. staff joke she’ll need a throne just to keep them in order, and when you ask her, “how many bunnies is enough for one sunshine bubba?” she presses a fist to her chest and declares, “all! more! all bun-bun for haeun!” on soft afternoons, you catch her curling her whole body around her favorites, mouth sticky with milk, drowsy from laughter, whispering to their stitched faces: “night-night, bun-bun. night-night, sunshine.” and as she drifts off, it’s not hard to believe these bunnies are more than fabric and fluff—they’re a living constellation, proof that a girl who started alone can become the center of her own universe, warm and wanted, swaddled in the softness of a thousand small acts of love.

her favorite, always and forever, is lemon drop—the impossibly long-limbed, floppy-eared bunny that jaemin picked out himself on a rare day off, dusty cream with butter-yellow paws and a threadbare ribbon that never sits quite straight. he’d handed it to her with the awkward tenderness of a man new to gentleness, muttering, “don’t lose this one, bubba,” and from the first second, she refused to let it go. lemon drop is her shadow and her shield: she drags him by one soft paw on every adventure, cuddles him against her cheek through every nap, and if you ask her, “who loves you the most?” she’ll squish noodle to her chest, eyes shining, and say, “dada and bun-bun. always.” it isn’t the fanciest or the brightest, but it’s her talisman—the one she holds tight on the hardest days, the one who always comes with her when she’s wheeled down the corridor for another procedure, the one who still smells like her daddy’s cologne. in a kingdom of bunnies, lemon drop is the crown.
cute ballerina, sunshine haeun and her bunnies 🐰💗🥹

Hello, My Dearest Purple One,
How Come U Don’t Call Me Anymore?
It’s been 1999 days since I last saw you on Alphabet Street in Baltimore with Bambi. She told me you had a terrible Condition of the Heart but those were Days of Wild and I was Delirious and had been running the streets with Darling Nikki and, well, you know how Extraordinary she can be. She told me she wanted to be my Friend, Lover, Sister, Mother/Wife, all at the same time. She was such a Sexy MF and an Irresistible Bitch, although she loved to Sleep Around and had a very Dirty Mind, she was The Most Beautiful Girl in the World to me and made me feel like Somebody’s Someone. One day, she smashed my heart in two. Told me she was Dreamin’ About U and that you had always been her Private Joy and no one and Nothing Compares 2 U. Not even me. Damn U! I really wanted her to love me.
It just wasn’t part of The Plan.
I’m not sure if you know, but I eventually moved on and met Papa, a Party Man who was a Sexy Dancer and a Prettyman who promised to love me for The Rest of My Life. I found his Pheromone so addictive. He told me that we would be the Greatest Romance Ever Sold and bought me Diamonds and Pearls and a great big White Mansion in Paisley Park. He even took me Around the World in a Day on his Tangerine-colored private jet and promised me The Sun, the Moon and Stars. When he said Let’s Have a Baby, I was so happy. It was as if my crazy Pop Life was finally coming together and I saw The Future and it was Gold. He was my Saviour. But, soon I found out that One of Us was lying. Besides me, he had 5 Women and a Curious Child that he failed to mention. I was devastated. He wanted me to stay with him but I told him Something In The Water Does Not Compute and If You Want Me To Stay you will have to end it with all the others. He said no. So, I cried and told him, I Love U, but I Don't Trust U Anymore. He told me fuck Trust. Gigolos Get Lonely Too. I asked “Why You Wanna Treat Me So Bad?” and he said Baby I’m a Star, and that was the last time we ever spoke.
Things got very Dark afterward.
I was in such a F.U.N.K. that I prayed to God and then went and had Dinner with Delores. You remember her? The Scandalous woman who lives Uptown and whose kisses were always so Soft and Wet. She had 200 Balloons that filled the entire house and she served us Starfish and Coffee, maple syrup and jam, butterscotch clouds, a tangerine, and a side order of ham. She also made a Purple Medley of teas. It was the best meal of my life but I told her I Gotta Broken Heart Again. She said she could tell I was going through a thing and asked me what I wanted? I said an International Lover that I could Do It All Night with but she told me “U need another lover like u need a hole in yo head.” And I laughed my ass off – La, La, La, He, He, He. She was right. I knew I was Damned If I Do. I had to Escape, so I left America with my Face Down and an awful case of Computer Blue seeking Emancipation from my Strange but True Love Bizarre. Although Delores warned me, I couldn’t help myself when I met a man named Mr. Happy. He was Supercute, had so much Style, and boy could he Kiss. He loved to read me The Morning Papers and helped me to Letitgo. So when he told me “I Wanna Be Your Lover” I couldn’t resist. Because of his kisses though I expected a Housequake in the bed, but he couldn’t make me Orgasm. He said Do Me Baby and although I tried, I couldn’t. When he left, he said, I Feel For You. You’re too sad to ever be loved. And your life...It’s Gonna Be Lonely. I cried for 17 Days and then I returned home where I spent Another Lonely Christmas.
I tried to remember the last time I truly felt Free.
And then I remembered. It was with U. That time you and I went to Erotic City to get a Guitar and Tambourine from Chelsea Rodgers that I just had to have. And although you were dating Anna Stesia at the time, who you said gave really great Head, and she didn’t like the idea of you being gone for 7 whole days, you came with me anyway. You told her we were Just Friends but she didn’t believe you and said Take Me With U but you told her no. So then she said I Would Die For You. She was such a drama queen! But, you held your ground, and as we left she yelled down the street that she would be Misty Blue and Delirious until you returned “Right Back Here In My Arms.” I was so glad when you broke up with that heifer six months later, but I digress. As soon as we arrived at the Big City, we stopped in the Mountains at the Holy River and saw a Love Sign in the Mountains, which were the color of Crimson and Clover. You said you were starving but I said Breakfast Can Wait. We have to see The Arms of Orion Under The Cherry Moon. And, when we finally saw the constellation named after a hunter in Greek mythology, all you could say was Betcha by Golly, Wow and agreed with me that it was definitely worth missing pancakes for. After we got my instruments, the Lady Cab Driver in the Little Red Corvette who wore a Raspberry Beret and Pink Cashmere hit on you so you said Let’s Pretend We’re Married so she’d leave you alone. But she said she loves both Girls & Boys and we three could have a Glam Slam and all Gett Off but you told her your mama said Don't Talk 2 Strangers so she dropped us off at the airport in a Fury. We laughed and laughed and soon enough we were high in the sky, flying through the clouds watching the Purple Rain, and listening to the Thunder. Knowing I was scared, you took my hand and said, Te Amo Corazón. I didn’t know what it meant but I loved the way it felt when you said it and we soared above the storm, I told you that as long as you always tell me The Truth I will always Adore you and I will always be here for you. You smiled at me and you kissed my hand so sweetly and I felt a peace I had never known. It was then I knew that although Sometimes It Snows In April if you follow The Song of The Heart, Life Can (also) Be So Nice.
I haven’t seen or heard from you in years but just know that Wherever U Go, Whatever U Do, I wish U love, I Wish U Heaven and I’m Still Waiting. And I always will.
The Beautiful One,
BLACK XXIII 💜
Feel free to share, #Prince and I spent many hours making this story tribute to him, his incredible music that shaped my pre-teen/teen years, and my love of him on this, the 6th anniversary of his passing. This Is a Beautiful tribute shared on the anniversary of his passing, re-shared. 💜

Find the Word Tag
I was tagged by @elaynab-writing here to find the words Favouite, Blue, Empty, and Beyond, and by @cirianne to find letter, hide, smoke and silence
Sorry I’m so late in doing this!
Let’s use Lies as the WIP.
FAVOURITE
Eventually the nausea passed. I quickly shampooed my hair, and while i was waiting for the right time to wash the conditioner out, scrubbed myself from top to bottom with my favourite tangerine-scented soap, one of the few scents that didn’t make me want to throw up.
BLUE
I haven’t used this at all!
EMPTY
I’d fallen asleep fully clothed again, face down on the bed, my left arm dangling off the edge still holding an empty bottle of... something. Lifting the bottle revealed the disappointing truth. Butterscotch schnapps. Why did I keep doing this to myself?
BEYOND
I shouldn’t have been disappointed, and I knew it. Despite myself I’d been enjoying spending time with him, and the support he’d given me today had been beyond anything I’d expect even with my friends, but I was sure that he wasn’t wavering in his plan to get me to see his boss. Maybe being nice to me was part of that plan. That felt accurate, only I couldn’t quieten the small voice that pointed out he’d put his life on the line for me and I wasn’t even sure if he’d survived.
LETTER
It felt important, though the meaning itself was elusive. I grabbed one of the bigger pieces of card I’d set aside for things like this and wrote it out in big block letters. It was definitely something worth thinking about and needed a spot on the wall larger than a post it note.
HIDE
I shoved my card into the ATM, trying to remember what I’d set my max withdrawal amount to. A grand? Two grand? I tried for two and hoped for the best.
“Since when do you have that much money?” Faith asked. “Last week you had to borrow $10 off me just so you could have lunch.”
The ATM spat out the money and I shoved the cash into Faith’s hands. “You two need to disappear for a few days. Don’t use your bank cards, don’t use your phones… just... hide.”
SMOKE
Disappearing behind me again [REDACTED] started chanting, his words filling the room with a sickly sweet smelling smoke. I squeezed my eyes shut, not wanting to see what was happening, not wanting to see what was coming.
SILENCE
We sat in silence for a while, occasionally passing the bottle between us. Every time I looked at him Marcus has his gaze firmly fixed on the bay, while I’d taken to staring at the clouds. I’d expected something like this to be awkward but it wasn’t. It was comfortable.
I’m tagging @yetmorestories & @cawolters to find Peace, Orange, Hurt, & Nothing if you want to join in.

Higurashi Month 2021, Day 1: Colors
Higurashi Month prompts archive: AO3
Keiichi was bright red. Passion, energy, health, blood –these were all things that described him well. At least, they did in Hinamizawa –the grey of those worlds where he did not come, the grey of the life he had lived before, all those were pushed aside in a vibrant burst of fiery red the moment he stepped onto the stage. He was red: shrieking, screaming, scarlet red, a red bright as holly and fierce as crimson, sharp as wine and glittering as ruby.
Rena was orange. Vigorous, eye-catching orange, something that could be dull and muted as rust or as lively as tangerine –that was Rena. Her orange was the shimmering burn of her copper hair, the cute parade of her carved lunch carrots, the feral sheen in her eyes that matched the glint of a roaring tiger. She was the foundation orange of terracotta clay, the hidden gem of amber, the sweet-sharp sting of raw honey.
Satoko was yellow. Bold, bright yellow –as fierce and shining as the sun, that was Satoko. Hidden behind clouds sometimes, but uncontainable, indomitable, eternal, enduring. She was a sharp sting of lemon and a bright burst of gold, the playful yellow of plastic toys in traps, the enduring yellow of any bright thing.
Satoshi was yellow too, but muted, quieter. His was the yellow of daffodils bobbing by the roadside: dusty and forgotten sometimes, cherished and admired in others –that was his yellow. A soothing, subtle yellow, like the fuzzy stripe on a bumblebee, or the flaxen waving of a field of grain. His was the yellow of home, a home he’d left and the home he desperately desired to come back to, sweet like butterscotch with a hidden, sharp, pineapple sting.
Mion was green. A momentous green, the black-green of a thick forest of pine trees on an ominous mountain slope –old, storied, dignified, that was Mion. But like the valley between the portentous mountains, she hid a different kind of green, a softer, gentler, more vulnerable green, like moss along a stream. She was a green that unfurled like ferns to gentle coaxing, a glowing emerald green that radiated strength and courage to those she led, a cold and cleansing green like mint.
Shion was green. Life, healing, nature, safety –those things meant Shion. Perhaps not all these things in all her forms, all her worlds, but she was ever-green: sharp like chartreuse poison, bitter like lime, lovelorn like juniper, prickly but sweet. Her green was the green of sage, cleansing and strong, as powerful as a crocodile and as precious as jade.
Rika was blue. Sadness depression, despair, yes –but also depth, stability, loyalty, and wisdom. Her blue was as deep as the ocean and vast as the sky, the indigo of written scrawls and the cobalt of her ancestral hair. Her blue was of forgetfulness, of memory, of innocence and joy, precious as lapis and rare as a peacock.
Hanyuu was purple. So often associated with royalty, with power, with wealth and dignity –all things she frequently lacked. Hers was the soft purple of lilacs in rain, the shocking satin of violets, the kind of purple that was gentle and slow and twined with the world like so many things no longer were. But there was a deeper purple in her too, a bruise-purple that radiated pain from all these long years, an amethyst of truth that gleamed with power, a dark magenta world that she cradled in her bosom and used to receive her priestess after each cycle.
AN: Defendant pleads guilty on fourth case of being back on her bullshit. Welcome to Higurashi Month 2021! Also, I'm not going to be including much if anything from Gou, because while there are a few scenes that were amazingly well-executed, I don't like it very much. If you don't like that, do your own interpretations of the prompts. (Please do, by all means. The more the merrier!)
Also, the predominant colors of the Higurashi gang form the rainbow, and that is very neat.

As someone who is ND themself and who has friends with “bad” ND disorders, I’m gonna ask neurotypical people to do a few things.
STOP DEMONIZING NEURODIVERGENT DISORDERS LIKE DID, BPD, BD, PSYCHOSIS, ASPD, ETC.
These people are NOT monsters, they are NOT your experiments to test on, they are NOT your hobby. They are living breathing people trying to live the best they can in a neurotypical focused world.
What bothers me the most is that these people are struggling, and then they don’t feel like they can reach out for help because the minute they do, they get demonized for it.
Another thing neurotypical people need to stop doing,
STOP INFANTILIZING PEOPLE WITH ADHD AND AUTISM. We are NOT infants. We are NOT incapable. We are NOT your “soft little baby.” Or some other bullshit.
We too, are people, we are also struggling, but treating us as if we’re incapable of doing anything when we very well could be is beyond insulting.
Neurodivergent people are just that, PEOPLE. Stop treating us otherwise. We just want respect.
Seriously.

I painted this for his birthday on June 7. Check my "cornerstone content" by my profile to see the whole painting, hear the song and see the painting process. . . . . . #prince #princenelsonrogers #artoninstagram #artofinstagram #digital_art #artcharacter #artillustration #digitalillustrations #freelanceillustrator #sandrachang #sandrachang-adair #banzaichicks #rebelakemi #characterillustration #theartist #ndnfzine #girlswhodraw #womenwhodraw #womenillustrators #artbyme #celebrityart #figurativeartist #muscianart #paisleypark #knight #artsbeautifulx #artspotlight #starfish #purplerain #princefanart https://www.instagram.com/p/CE4vT_HhN5u/?igshid=9vexfxgbcc7u
