mini fic 8 ! Fallen Order - Bogano First Visit - Cal & Greez & Cere Cal likes to sleep in...interesting places. Greez POV - 1.6k words
ao3 minific link - chapter 7 (beard)
Cal comes back from exploring more of Bogano limping, but in good spirits. Giddy, even!
Greez would almost be suspicious of it, not quite trusting the kid still, if it weren’t for how…young he looks with his cheeks flushed and his hair wild, holding an animated conversation with that droid that’s apparently sticking around. It takes years off him. Makes him look his age and like he wasn’t – like he wasn’t part of what was a genocide of his people.
Oh…great. Now Greez is sad just from looking at him.
He goes back to focusing on sprucing up the Mantis, determined to ignore his growing fondness for a kid who could scrap his ship for credits in a heartbeat. Scrappy describes the kid in more ways than one and Greez is not getting attached, stop. But he is. Because Cal is serious and jaded, but he also listens to Greez when he talks about the upgrades he’s done to the Mantis, asking intelligent questions and actually interested in the answer. He loves all food, never picky even when Cere’s nose wrinkles just a bit. When he laughs, it sounds like he means it despite all the terrible things he’s gone through. And – he’s just a kid. How could Greez dislike a kid who’s gone through such hardships and yet is still trying to do some good in galaxy?
He wonders vaguely if that’s a Jedi thing or a Cal Kestis thing – and decides maybe it’s a little bit of both. Cere’s a good person too. He can see the similarities in the two of them, raised on the same values and lessons, just trying their best in a galaxy that hates them.
Greez is so good at ignoring his own feelings and everything around him that an hour passes before he realizes…Cal isn’t hanging around anymore. The latero briefly considers being worried, but then dismisses the thought. He’s probably back out exploring Bogano. Sometimes the kid disappears for the entire day, gone before the sun rises and not back until it’s well below the horizon. How he can find so much to explore in this backwater swamp, he has no idea, but he’s not about to go out investigating himself.
Satisfied with that logic, it’s back to buffing out the blaster marks off the Mantis’ exterior. Hm, maybe a new paint job? Cal found something out in one of the workshops, didn’t he? Presented it with a grin and a twinkle in his eyes, laughing when Greez opened it and found an eye-watering pink inside. Pink is a little too distinctive, but Cal handed over another tin of an understated swamp green Greez actually likes. Maybe he’ll tag the kid to help.
He’s distracted by his thoughts by a flash of red-white out of the corner of his eye – BD-1, wandering around and scanning insects that he’s probably scanned a dozen times before.
….with no ginger-haired Jedi in tow.
Great.
Where BD is, Cal should also be. It’s a new rule of the galaxy. Never one without the other. The last time that happened, turns out Cal got tangled up in some rope and was hanging over a drop so high Greez couldn’t see the ground.
“Where is he?” he asks the little droid. He gets a simple beep in response which Greez totally understands. Completely. Yeah.
– Greez stares blankly, not understanding at all. BD does a little head waggle, making a noise that sounds suspiciously like a droid’s version of laughter. That little shit.
“Hey! We can’t all be fluent in fifty billion languages. Give me a break.”
He may be over-estimating that number by a tad, but it’s definitely a high number. The translation matrix in the Mantis isn’t exactly top notch, but it has a pretty decent database and it still glitches when Cal gets worked up and switches to a new language he hadn’t used before.
The question is how does he know so many and the answer gives Greez a headache every time.
He will never understand the Force.
“Just…where is he? If he fell in a hole and broke is leg somewhere Cere’s gonna to kill me.”
Or ran into another, what did he call it? An oggdo? According to Cal, he barely escaped with his life. Still injured from their escape from Bracca and caught by surprise, the kid lost a good chunk of his poncho and had to be hosed down before being let back onto the ship, covered in toad gunk and mud. Now that he’s healed, he’s supposed to be figuring out their next move concerning the Vault, but maybe he’s decided to throw himself into a fight with an oggdo again – and lost, and that’s why BD’s here, looking for help.
BD-1 would be more frantic if that was the case, right?
“Where’s Cal?”
Ah, speak and she shall appear. The galaxy really is just out to get him.
Greez face-palms as he turns to see Cere standing on the Mantis’ ramp, looking a little sleep ruffled but getting more and more awake as her gaze bounces from Greez to BD-1 and never to Cal because Call isn’t here. The fact that she’s stopped long enough to fall asleep, let alone actually slept, is a kriffin’ miracle. She’s been non-stop ever since they picked up Imperial communications of a Jedi on Bracca and said Jedi turned out to be a teenager who decided to immediately pass out from his injuries once they entered hyperspace.
And that was nearly three weeks ago.
“Heeyy, Cere. Have a nice nap?”
She raises an unimpressed eyebrow. “I did, actually. Now, where’s Cal?”
Greez waves a hand. “Oh, you know him. He’s probably getting distracted by some new thing to explore.”
Cere crosses his arms, eyes flickering down to where BD-1 is watching them. “And I’m sure he made a conscious decision to do that without BD-1, didn’t he?”
“Maybe. You never know.” Greez feels oddly defensive, and he wonders if that’s a Jedi Master ability, making him feel like a kid who stole from the sweets jar when it reality it was his brother.
BD bwoops, it almost sounds like he’s laughing, hopping from foot to foot before he takes off, disappearing behind the ship’s ramp quick as a blink. Greez and Cere exchange bewildered looks. All they can do is follow. Where BD is, Cal will also be. And in turn, where Cal is, BD will be there. This they’ve learned – Cere when she nearly tripped over the droid sitting patiently as Cal meditated. Greez when he went to the second level of the Mantis for storage and found BD standing guard as Cal quietly had some sort of panic attack.
Kindred spirits, Cere had called them with a sad sort of smile on her face.
When they make their way under the Mantis – Cere having to duck – what greets them is, quite frankly, an adorable sight.
Cal is curled up in the shadows, poncho pulled tight around him, head cradled on his arm.
Deeply asleep. He’s not even talking like he sometimes does. His expression is relaxed, content even. A few of the brown, bouncing critters that dig burrow – boglings? – are piled up around him like a lump of dozing akk dogs. Ears twitch. Legs kick out as they dream. They’re snoring. These little sounds that Greez will never admit out loud he finds cute. If he listens closely enough, he can hear a deeper snore from beneath the pile – Cal.
BD beeps quietly, a job well done in letting them know where Cal is, then skitters over to the kid, picking carefully around various limbs until he can tuck himself under Cal’s arm and snuggle against his chest like he’s a bogling himself. Cal makes a soft sound and curls around the droid, holding him close.
“Would you look at that,” Cere says softly, expression aching.
Cal sleeping -- actually sleeping without nightmares or pain – is something neither of them are familiar with at all. And who can blame him? Greez can’t imagine that the kid’s been through. He’ll be having nightmares himself for a long while thanks to Bracca.
“Do we leave him here?” Greez asks, torn between wanting him to sleep and cringing at the amount of mud that’s gotta be soaking into his clothes.
BD whirls in quiet warning, daring them to try and wake Cal. Cere laughs, shaking her head.
“Do you want to be the one who wakes him up?” she asks, her tone amused. Greez grimaces. No thank you. “I thought so. It’s better if we let him sleep, especially if he’s sleeping so well. It’ll be easier to connect to the Force if he’s well rested.”
“So, we just…walk away? Leave him alone?” Sleeping outside isn’t exactly his idea of a good time.
“Are you planning on going any further from the ship?”
“Well, no.”
Cere gestures to the boglings that have, surprisingly, not run away yet. A couple are looking at the two of them with wide, wary eyes, but they seem too comfortable to move. “He has plenty of guards. We’re not going anywhere. You’re more than welcomed to hose him down before he boards.”
“Oh. Yeah. Good point.” Greez is absolutely hosing him down. Bogano mud stinks.
They leave him there, sleeping soundly with BD on guard, but they don’t go far. Cere disappears for only a couple minutes before she comes back out with a holonovel, a drink, and a chair, setting up right where she can juusstt see a peek of Cal under the ramp. Greez picks up the buffer again, pauses in thought, then hurries to grab the swamp green paint tin – after a nanosecond of hesitation, he scoops up the pink paint as well.
He’s sure there’s a non-obtrusive thing he can paint pink. Maybe it’ll get that one bright, looks-his-age smile from Cal again.
#it's been a hot minute#cal kestis#greez dritus#mantis crew#my writing#this one is just a little ramble#i just knew i wanted cal sleeping under the ramp with boglings#hope you enjoy!#posted this on ao3 too#i have not read it for edits#ao3 chapter will be read for edits when I wake up and am waiting on my car to be inspected

Caladin: Draft of his Kit
As promised^^
No promise the numbers are scaled in anyway balanced- I don’t have a good grasp of buffing and scaling on the numbers side, so feel free to make suggestions.
Wrath (normal attack):
Caladin makes 6 consecutive melee attacks dealing Spectro damage equivalent to 90% of his ATK. Basic attacks accumulate stacks of “Vengeance.”
Heavy Attacks: consume a certain amount of stamina to deal single target Spectro damage equal to 115% of Caladin’s ATK and minor aoe Spectro damage.
Animation idea: A parting the seas kind of motion in which Cal brings his hands together and up before pulling them down off to his sides, creating a cone of Spectro energy around him.
Mid-air Attack: consumes a certain amount of stamina to perform a mid-air attack that deals aoe Spectro damage equal to 75% of Caladin’s ATK
Animation idea: Dropkick :3
Solar Flare (Resonance Skill)
Produces a field of swirling Spectro orbs that orbit the onfield Resonator, pulling enemies in and dealing consistent Spectro damage for 15 seconds that is equal to 75% of Caladin’s ATK.
Golden Hour (Forte)
Stacks a condition called “Vengeance” upon usage of Wrath and its variants, including basic attacks, heavy attacks, and mid-air attacks.
Upon collecting the first stack of “Vengeance”, Caladin regenerates 20% of his max energy.
A max of 12 stacks can be accumulated at once and can be done every 2 seconds.
Stacks of “Vengeance” clear upon triggering Daylight’s Glory.
Clearing stacks of “Vengeance” applies party wide ATK and Crit Rate buffs per stack cleared.
A maximum of a 40% ATK buff and 12% Crit Rate buff can be acquired
Daylight’s Glory (Resonance Liberation)
Attacks a main target dealing massive Spectro damage equivalent to 270% of Caladin’s ATK and minor AOE Spectro damage.
Clears all stacks of “Vengeance” and applies a party wide buff that last 30 seconds with Caladin off field, and 40 seconds of Caladin spends at least 10 seconds on field after triggering Daylight’s Glory.
Caladin’s basic attack, Wrath, is greatly enhanced and becomes “Rage.”
Animation idea: we see a close up of Caladin’s face, his eyes are glowing and we see a foreshortened version of his hand come into scene. It flashes to a view of light bursting through seams of his fingers as though he grabs the enemy by the face and incinerates them :3
Rage (Enhanced Basic Attack)
Performs 6 consecutive melee attacks dealing Spectro damage equal to 200% of Caladin’s ATK. All Heavy Attacks and Mid-Air attacks are treated as basic attack damage and receive designated buffs as though they were basic attacks.
Rage lasts 30 seconds. It does not disperse if Caladin is switched out for another character.
Dawn’s Breath (Intro Skill)
Deals AOE Spectro damage equivalent to 150% of Caladin’s ATK and regenerates (x) amount of Energy for himself.
Animation idea: Full blown flying out of the sky to punch the ground Haymaker vibes-
Justice at Dusk (Outro Skill)
Creates a single, stationary orb of Spectro energy that pulses and deals AOE damage equivalent to 30% of Caladin’s ATK and taunts the enemy. After 3 hits, it disperses.
Regenerates a third of the incoming Resonator’s energy.
If the incoming Resonator has a fully charged Liberation, this is exchanged for a Crit Damage buff of 12%.
Inherent Skill 1
Increases Caladin’s attack by 12%
Inherent Skill 2
Increases Caladin’s energy regeneration rate by 15%
—
Wow. Alright. I think this is done enough for a draft.
If some parts seem really random and disconnected, it’s because I am ill and also just throwing thoughts at paper.
Please do add critiques of stats and percentages because I cross referenced with Xiangli Yao, Acheron from Honkai Star Rail, and Dr. Ratio from Honkai Star Rail.
So I’m sure this is a mess^^
Caladin is built to be a dual DPS/Quickswap unit.
A rotation for him might be building stacks of Vengeance, Resonance Liberation, Resonance Skill, a few extra hits in with his basic, and then swap for the other DPS to benefit from his party wide buffing.
He could also work in hyper carry, but honesty I don’t know :’)
Quick fun fact: Caladin’s Forte is named Golden Hour in reminiscence of who he once was and what his Forte once felt like to him. His other skill names feel very violent in comparison.
@uncreative-cryptid and @hobbysognodilibri (feel free to ignore, but I thought you’d like a look)
#wuthering waves#wuwa#wuwa oc#Caladin#attempts were made#maybe I’ll post photos of my little journal with all my scribbled notes about this

Ho resoldrem, ho resoldrem.
]
En fi, he acabat aixecant-me a les vuit i pico i he tingut un matí tranquil. He llegit, hem dinat fora al solete i xerrat amb mun pare, m'he dutxat, he imprès uns documents... i cap a la reunió.
Estan canviant coses. No sé.

my friend organized an art installation project called hot rat summer. there were like 30 or 50 artists involved, you’d have to ask him, but we were all making works about the rats in seattle’s cal anderson park, named after the first openly gay politician in our state, giving due respect to the many rats in our beloved park
there were so many incredible works of art, but the centerpiece was incontestably my friend’s installation: a stained glass-style glass mosaic piece titled ‘our lady of hot rat summer,’ dedicated to both the trans community of seattle and the equally deposed community of rats in our fair city
his mosaic was almost immediately surrounded by dozens of t4t graffiti artists throwing up their tags and brand new expressions of solidarity and love for every trans person in seattle
not much later it was buffed by the conservatives that everyone in seattle likes to forget also live here. every positive expression of transness was targeted and erased by local transphobes. there were a number of kids, including saint rat, who threw up new, pro-trans tags to push back against this attack, but my friend was adamant that this was a battle we should surrender in favor of the greater war
today most of the works installed for hot rat summer are either worn away by the elements or new tags pasted over them, or taken down by violent transphobes. but graffiti is definitionally here but for a brief moment. if you were fortunate enough to be present and paying attention in the weeks after these many works were installed, you were the blessed recipient of love and care for every trans person in seattle. even if you didn’t, one piece had a spell that granted protection on our whole community
i feel like graffiti is always viewed as this v crass, low form of art. but it’s the voice of the voiceless. without street art, seattle’s gayborhood would be visually so deeply cis. were a tiny percentage of the population, and so often we blend in with the cis. anyone who isn’t trans or tapped into our community wouldn’t even know we’re here. but we’re all over this place, and we do so much to shape the culture. you can tell us by our art

#sorry for not having a less self-aggrandizing picture of his mosaic#but wow it’s so beautiful#our lady of hot rat summer

On Saturday night against Columbus, Ovi scored against Daniil Tarasov, making him the 152nd goalie that he's scored on in his career, inching him closer to Gretzky's 156 goalies scored on (Jaromir Jagr has the all-time record, with 178 goalies). This got me wondering how quickly Ovi could possibly reach Gretzky (and eventually Jagr) and how many goalies were currently available to be scored on for the first time.
So, I went and gathered the information myself. Below is a list of all the goalies currently on NHL rosters (according to NHL.com as of December 6th) that have NOT surrendered a goal to Alex Ovechkin, aside from his current teammates Ilya Samsonov and Vitek Vanecek.
Most of these goalies are backups (particularly in the Western Conference who haven't had much of a chance to face him), really young goalies who haven't been in the league long, a couple vets who have managed to not play the Caps at all in their careers, and one longtime former teammate who also has yet to face the Caps. However, there is one BIG surprise on this list.
Current Goalies Alex Ovechkin has not scored a goal against:
Anthony Stolarz (ANA)
Karel Vejmelka (ARI)
Malcolm Subban (BUF)
Kevin Lankinen (CHI)
Justus Annunen (COL)
Pavel Francouz (COL)
Jonas Johansson (COL)
Elvis Merzlikins (CBJ)
Braden Holtby (DAL)
Jake Oettinger (DAL)
Alex Nedeljkovic (DET)
Stuart Skinner (EDM)
Cal Petersen (LAK)
Kaapo Kahkonen (MIN)
Sam Montembeault (MTL)
David Rittich (NSH)
Ilya Sorokin (NYI)
Adam Huska (NYR)
Tristan Jarry (PIT)
Joey Daccord (SEA)
Chris Driedger (SEA)
Ville Husso (STL)
Charlie Lindgren (STL)
Joseph Woll (TOR)
Thatcher Demko (VAN)
Eric Comrie (WPG)
Yes; in 7 games against an oft-seen division rival, Alex Ovechkin has yet to score a goal on Tristan Jarry
#trust me i was just as surprised as you to learn that he had never scored on jarry#notable goalies on this list who have simply never faced the caps at all in their careers include:#merzlikins and nedeljkovic and petersen and rittich and driedger and demko#and braden of course#also surprised he didn't get sorokin last year#so yes this is the list of guys who can help him achieve his goal#alex ovechkin#washington capitals

calahan could identify almost immediately what the boy in front of him was. the slightly rugged exterior, the scent of soil from past changes that clung in unseen places. he had spoken to wolves before ; despite an age - old feud, blood - deep, the vampire had never really been one for prejudice. “half?” cal questioned, a restrained smile plastered to his face, “ah — well, there’s certainly something there under the accent, but i can pick up the eire a mile off. it’s been a long time since i went away, and it never leaves you.” it was all he had left of the macarthy’s, the strong upturn on his words that was the same as his mother’s before him. she had been a pious woman, a woman that had taught him everything he knew, and maybe that was the reason why calahan still refused to rid himself of the hail mary around his neck, clutching rosaries when the sun went down and confessing his lifetimes of sins in the chapel below his and liam’s sprawling mansion. the strength of his accent had never dulled — not in england, not in america, not in the century since his death. maybe it was ironic, a vampire harboring such softness for the species that had historically torn them apart. still, he watched as the other spoke, offering understanding nods, humming to show his interest. throughout, his spine remained impossibly straight, his neck elongated and his chin poised. almost like a statue, or a marionette hanging on a still hand. “on your ma or da’s side?” he finally asked, returning to buffing the tops of the glasses that emerged, still dirty, from the dishwasher. “honestly, i couldn’t take money of your hands for this. it wouldn’t be right. tell you what — we have a donation box right here, you can put your tip in there and we’ll call it even. me and my partner, we have everything we need.” calahan lowered the glass once it was cleaned and reached for another. “the bar is more for something to do. gets me out of the house.” he wondered if the wolf was the same as koda’s boyfriend, a frightened young thing that cowered beneath the moon and fought oncoming changes until they tore his flesh apart. did he stand against his affliction, or did he lie down and take it like a dog? an illusion of control had kept calahan steady for a hundred years. he knew he was only one bad night away from slipping. “how’s portum treating you? have you been around here long? i can’t believe i haven’t seen you before, if you have.” when calahan’s eyes fixed firmly on the stranger's, his voice skipped like a stone against flat water. there was something in those blue pools that he recognized, something screaming at him — almost innately — that this wasn’t just some stray. maybe he was the grandson of a fallen comrade, or a face in the background of aphelion books when he brought liam a morning coffee. “have i? seen you before?”
There was a peculiar scent about him—a stench Nick had grown all too familiar with when it came to that species. It clung to them like a second skin, an odor impossible to mask. Death. It wasn't just the sterile staleness of a cadaver lab or the sour tang of decay that lingered in the air after a patient flatlined. It was something sharper, more pervasive, and infinitely worse. Yet, it was never identical.
This one reeked of old whiskey and teakwood, layered beneath that unshakable smell of rot. It was distinct, but not enough to fool Nick. He didn’t need a second whiff to know what the man was—a vampire. The smell, the unnatural stillness in his movements, even the faintest effort to smooth out his accent—all of it screamed the truth. Or at the very least, it told him that he had lived long enough to be able to read him like a book. Nick’s lip curled, though he caught himself before it fully formed into a sneer.
"Just about half Irish, actually," Nick said, his tone as polished as he could possibly manage. "Most people pick up on the German more, though they’re usually wrong. Trilingual upbringing can make for an accent no one can quite place."
His mind momentarily whisked back to his own childhood. His mother’s voice—a symphony of Gaelic, German, and English—had shaped him and his sister in the same way. Their mother had worn her Irish heritage with pride, refusing to let it be drowned out by the rigidity of German tradition forcibly pushed on her.
Nick shook the memory aside and focused back on the vampire. He hated how quickly he could dissect him—his scent, his speech. He had a veneer of charm wrapped in centuries of practice and it made him uneasy. The instinct to recoil was tempered by the vampire's surprising humility as he offered Nick a drink. Nick's hand hovered for a moment before grasping the glass, the faintest flicker of a smile ghosting across his lips.
"Not sure I can take this without paying," he said, his tone light, though his wariness lingered. He raised the glass slightly, studying the liquid within. "Maybe you'll settle for a tip worth the price of this drink?"
