Damian grew up in Chilpancingo with his parents and siblings. Although he had not been formally taught English, to his family's surprise he had become fluent from watching the collection of dvds of English shows and movies they had. This is also where his love for music came from as he would constantly rewatch animated Disney musicals.

This love was fostered by his mother and grandmother as they were both singers and dancers in their youth. They taught him everything they knew and began teaching him since as young as age 4. Later they enrolled him in singing and dancing classes and have been his biggest supporters ever since. Damian quickly learned various new techniques and genres and became known as a prodigy and the best performer amongst his peers.

The year Damian turned 10 his parents sent him to live with his uncle in Los Angeles to help further his English fluency. He experienced severe homesickness within the first few months and started listening to kpop as it was something his best friend loved back in Chilpancingo. He fell in love with the genre beyond just it's familiarity and found his passion for music take a new direction. Damian joined a junior dance team in LA and quickly climbed the ranks impressing even the most experienced dancers. He stayed in LA for 5 more years to stay on the team.

When Damian was 15 he was offered the chance to study abroad at Hanlim Arts High School in Korea with two of his friends. The study abroad widened his horizons even further and allowed him to practice his Korean which he had started learning back when he first got into kpop. He went to school in Korea for a year when on a visit to LA he saw that BigHit Entertainment was doing international auditions. He auditioned not thinking anything of it until he got a response back telling him he had been accepted.

Damian flew back to Korea, no longer a foreign exchange student but a permanent one for the foreseeable future. And with rumors of HYBE planning their next big boy group, Damian knows that there will be a spot for him.
