A Helpful Mentor
Today at ICON Architecture we had an eventful day. We sat in on meetings, worked on our tasks and got to meet more people within the office. Our mentor Joe has been extremely welcoming and giving us so many tips for this field. He reviewed all our portfolios and resumes and gave us great advice on how to make them better. It has really been amazing to learn from him and see what an architect does every day!

An Active Client
Today at ICON Architecture we were able to go see a site in Fitchburg. Our mentor Joe is the project manager and we got to tour the entire site. This used to be an old school with multiple buildings to it. They are turning it into affordable housing for people who care about the arts. They will have multiple units where there will be in studio workspace. This has been a long plan in the making and it's great to see it come to life.
Newvue is the client for the Fitchburg project. It is great to see a client care about the community and want to help it grow. They are involved in the project and making sure everything is going well. It is nice to see the different clients throughout ICON Architecture and how they each differ from project to project.

It looks like a place for teamwork.
It looks like a great place for teamwork. At ICON Architecture they collaborate together to work on projects. Everyone has their own job and tasks they are assigned, but they all communicate and meet with each other to go over certain areas. We sat in on a meeting discussing certain historic preservation items that needed to be reviewed for a project. Two team members worked together to figure out what to fix and how to accomplish that.
For the second half of our day, we visited a site where they are working on multi-family homes. There were so many people working together to complete this project. It didn't feel like every man for themselves at ICON Architecture. I am excited for the next few days to see what else we learn!

Day 1: Workplace

On our first day at the firm, we got to explore the office and city! We got a tour of the office that is located in downtown Boston. At ICON Architecture they have a hybrid workplace, it was nice to see the office in a quiet setting for the first day. Joe, our mentor, gave a great tour of the office including the materials library. We were able to look at a few upcoming projects at the firm and learn more of what goes into that process.
During lunch break we were able to go grab food and walk around downtown. Joe gave us great advice about school and our future careers. We were able to see what it is like in the workplace after graduation. After lunch we got to walk around the city and see some great architecture. I am excited to see all that I learn within the next week while at ICON Architecture!
