Apollo 17, the final lunar landing mission in NASA's Apollo program, was the first nighttime liftoff of the Saturn V launch vehicle. Aboard the Apollo 17 spacecraft were astronaut Eugene A. Cernan, commander; astronaut Ronald E. Evans, command module pilot; and scientist-astronaut Harrison H. Schmitt, lunar module pilot. Flame from the five F-1 engines of the Apollo/Saturn first (S-1C) stage illuminates the nighttime scene. A two-hour and 40-minute hold delayed the Apollo 17 launching."

The insignia is dominated by the image of Apollo, the Greek sun god. Suspended in space behind the head of Apollo is an American eagle of contemporary design, the red bars of the eagle's wing represent the bars in the United States flag; the three white stars symbolize the three astronaut crewmen. The background is deep blue space and within it are the moon, the planet Saturn and a spiral galaxy or nebula. The moon is partially overlaid by the eagle's wing suggesting that this is a celestial body that man has visited and in that sense conquered. The thrust of the eagle and the gaze of Apollo to the right and toward Saturn and the galaxy is meant to imply that man's goals in space will someday include the planets and perhaps the stars. The colors of the emblem are red, white and blue, the colors of our flag; with the addition of gold, to symbolize the golden age of space flight that will begin with this Apollo 17 lunar landing. The Apollo image used in this emblem was the famous Apollo of Belvedere sculpture now in the Vatican Gallery in Rome. This emblem was designed by artist Robert T. McCall in collaboration with the astronauts."

And ANOTHER thing,, what was with all of the borderline sexual assault/rapey scenarios thrust upon Scully? First in 114 she’s essentially incapacitated, and if Mulder hadn’t found her in time, she absolutely would have been violated- and no comfort after that. He just made a joke. Then we have 213, which if they would have had a bit of a higher rating, y’all know it would have gotten physically sexual instead of just undertones.

Next we have her abduction. No denial that what she went through was undoubtedly straight up medical AND sexual assault. Not only would it result in psychological trauma- but physically as well. For all intents and purposes- and for lack of a better diagnosis when one has ovaries but no eggs- she essentially underwent a double oophorectomy which would have thrown her into early menopause and realistically (yah yah I know its fictional) left her on hormone replacement therapy for the rest of her life basically. Not to mention the already established trauma of being sterilized against her knowledge and will.

(I wish they would have delved deeper into her actual thoughts about being taken and experimented on and having her agency stripped away- beyond just the ‘I can no longer have children’ bs. Like show us the PTSD, the anxiety attached to not completely knowing what had happened to her, etc)

Next, we have 420, and I don’t even want to get into it. Again, if Mulder hadn’t shown up… and then it’s never brought up again.

And the last big one that I can remember atm- the blatant and bluntly stated admission by CSM in s11 that he was the one to get her pregnant. Because medical rape is totally cool. Even if he was a liar like always, that’s a really fucked up thing to manipulate her with. (Although I have blocked the revival and the last movie from my head so it’s actually not actually canon, okay? Okay.)

-something i've noticed btw, and i think it might be due to the nature of the anime vs the manga timeline and arguably can't be helped, is that the suicidal-maniac part of dazai is much more sparse in the manga. in the anime, it feels like he mentions it way more often.

'cause this is the third time a "woman misunderstanding" is happening in the manga. first you think he's flirting with higuchi, but no actually, he's bugging her. then you think he had sex with kouyou, but no actually, he just talked to her. so it's quite possible that it's a case of "you think he fucked the nurse, but actually he just lent her a shoulder to cry on." and off-manga timeline, at least in the anime, the same thing happened with sasaki, it was all "dazai did WHAT with sasaki?" and the answer was "in fact, he did absolutely nothing." i find it funny that THIS, of all things, is one of bsd's great unanswered questions though, and that there is canonical events that could very well support the "actually no, it wasn't sexual" to what looks like a sexual gag. you could argue that the manga makes a point of pointing out that even though sexual advances for personal gain would be expected from someone like dazai, it is in fact not something that dazai does (and no, chuuya’s “womanizer” comment from when he knew dazai four years ago doesn’t count). although. if we were ever given an answer, i believe it would be far sillier than anything we could imagine. like, they sing karaoke, or he shares his medicine with her and she gets high, he shows her how to beat that really hard mobile game, something utterly, completely stupid.

Riverside: 2023 CCCAA Football Champions

RIVERSIDE - Gabe Panikoski kicked a 23-yard field goal as time expired to give host Riverside City College a 24-21 victory over defending champion College of San Mateo in the 3C2A Football State Championship game Saturday afternoon at Wheelock Stadium.

Riverside (12-1), appearing in a fourth consecutive state championship game, had to respond after the Bulldogs (11-2) completed a 78-yard drive with 2:01 remaining to tie it with a 1-yard run on a direct snap to Valentino Foni (his second such tally of the game). That was set up by a 19-yard third-down pass from Anthony Grigsby to Tyler Bourland, who made a spectacular one-handed catch, that just missed getting into the end zone.

Tigers quarterback Jordan Barton took control after the kickoff, marching from his own 25 to the 6-yard line. The final dramatics were set up by Barton's 17-yard scramble to the seven (from the CSM 24), going out of bounds with nine seconds remaining. Barton, after a 1-yard run to the six, took his final timeout with four seconds to go, setting up Panikoski for the game-winner.

"I thought it was going to go into overtime," said Riverside coach Tom Craft. "But Barton was resourceful. He's been doing that all year."

The ending dramatics also reminded Craft of some history. "We did the same thing 30 years ago to beat San Francisco in the title game," said Craft, who was the Palomar College coach at that time. "We won it on a field goal with three seconds left."

Barton completed 22 of 31 passes for 201 yards, ran (and scrambled) 18 times for 114 yards and two touchdowns - to earn game MVP honors. Riverside running back Bryce Strong rushed for 76 yards and a TD on 16 carries and caught 9 passes for 97 yards - to gain offensive player of the game recognition. The Bob Stangel defensive player of the game was RCC frosh lineman Esaia Bogar with 8 tackles, including a 15-yard sack, and a QB hurry.

Grigsby was the game-passing leader with 236 yards, completing 19-of-26 throws, including a TD. He led the Bulldogs on a 65-yard drive with their first possession after CSM -held the Tigers to a quick initial 3-and-out. A 38-yard Grigsby to Fidel Pitts pass was the big play on the drive, completed with Foni's 3-yard run.

Riverside responded with a 75-yard drive that the Bulldogs appeared to halt at their own 4-yard line. The Tigers had settled for Panikowski's successful 21-yard field goal. The Bulldogs were called for holding, however, and Craft took the points off the board. Now at the two, Strong rushed quickly into the end zone to tie it.

On their next possession, Barton took the Tigers 83 yards in nine plays, scrambling for the final 10 yards with a leap into the end zone for a 14-7 lead early in the second quarter.

San Mateo, however, was determined to tie it at the half. Grigsby took the Bulldogs 65 yards in the final 1:09 of the period, connecting with Pitts on a 42-yard play to get things started and finishing with a 3-yard toss to Terence Loville for the equalizer.

The game remained knotted into the fourth quarter. Barton got things going by engineering a 62-yard drive - capped by his own 14-yard run for a 21-14 advantage with 9:50 remaining.

Led by Strong and Barton, Riverside rushed for 221 yards against the usually stingy Bulldogs and had a total offense of 422 yards.

San Mateo had 111 yards on the ground (with Sanchez and White each netting 46 yards) and 254 passing for 365 total yards. Pitts caught 4 passes for 115 yards and Loville 4 for 43.

Arona Mata'u led CSM on defense with 9 solo tackles and 3 assists.

Riverside captured its second all-time championship, joining its 2019 win, also over CSM. The Bulldogs were looking to be the state's first back-to-back champion since Mt. San Antonio in 2009 and 2010.

COURSERA_WEEK1 How sleep habits influence personality ?

Among the impressive number of data available on the ADD HEALTH documentation and code book, I paid attention more precisely to the data relating to sleep patterns.

The variables describe both bedtime and wake-up times on work, school or similar activities days, as well as for days without constraints.

They are respectively :

Working day wake-up time : H4SP1H; H4SP1M; H4SP1T

Working day bedtime : H4SP2H; H4SP2M; H4SP2T

Day without constraints wake-up time : H4SP3H; H4SP3M; H4SP3T

Day without constraints bedtime : H4SP4H; H4SP4M; H4SP4T

I would like to study whether these sleep patterns impact personality.

Code is very large to describe personality. It includes both descriptive variables of behavior (stable/unstable; structured/disordered; cartesian/creative, etc.) but also variables relating to relationships with others (empathetic/egoistic; extroverted/introverted, etc.).

I, then, carried out a bibliographic review to guide my research.

Adriane M. Soehner et al. [1] in her article ‘Personality Correlates with Sleep‐Wake Variables’ (2007) worked on 3 samples for a total of 356 subjects aged from 18 to 59 yo (1 initial and 2 confirmatory studies). In the initial e-mail questionnaire, variables related to personality were collected using Eysenck Personality Inventory (EPI) for extraversion and neuroticism level and Attitude to Life Questionnaire (ATLQ) for sub‐clinical manic‐type symptoms. The quality of sleep was measured by the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), by questions from the Sleep Timing Questionnaire (STQ), and finally, morningness‐eveningness was assessed using the Composite Scale of Morningness (CSM).

In the three studies, neuroticism was associated with poorer quality of sleep and sub‐clinical manic‐type symptoms were found to be significantly associated with later bedtimes and wake‐times during the work‐week and a more-evening type CSM profil. However, any of the personality variables were significantly correlated with sleep duration variables.

In a more recent article (2018), Victor Hugo Dias Pereira et al. [2] investigates the behavioral effects of sleep on the personality traits in a younger panel of 114 brasilian university students from 18 to 40 yo, clinically stable, using chronotype type according to Horne and Östberg questionnaire (Moderately Morning (MM), Intermediary (I), Moderately Evening (ME)), Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), and among others, Big five Personality Inventory for personality data.

The results, obtained by MANOVA method, also showed a significant difference between the chronotype and personality traits, particularly significant on extroversion and agreeableness traits. Another MANOVA test was performed on the data according to the participants’ sex. The analysis showed no difference among the chronotypes and personality traits to men, however differences were observed among in relation to the trace agreeableness. MM women showed higher scores regarding agreeableness than ME women.

Stephan, Y., Sutin et al. (2018) [3] presents a large synthesis combining 4 studies (the Wisconsin Longitudinal Study, the Midlife in the United States Study, the Health and Retirement Study, and the Midlife in Japan Study) with a total of more than 22 000 adults from 30 to 107 yo whose personality and sleep quality were assessed at baseline and again 4 to 10 years later. Once again, poor sleep quality at baseline was associated with steeper declines in extroversion, agreeableness, and conscientiousness and a smaller decrease in neuroticism over time. In this analysis, openness and agreeableness were unrelated to sleep quality.

CONCLUSION

The literature review highlights that a state of neurosis (anxiety, depression), low extroversion, low open-mindness are often associated with poorer overall sleep habits and could also affect kindness traits.

Based on my curiosity and my literature review, among ‘Personality’ variables from ADD HEALTH codebook, I am going to focus on the following, representative of the selected traits :

Optimistic (H4PE7) / Pessimistic (H4PE31)

Empathetic (H4PE18) / Insensitive (H4PE26)

Stable (H4PE16) / Unstable (H4PE20)

Thus, the question becomes clearer: How does the duration and timing of sleep impact personality in terms of turn of mind,  kindness and stability of behavior, assuming that late falling asleep and lack of sleep negatively affect these parameters.

I keep in mind that quality of sleep (represented as H4SP5 and H4SP6) could also interfere with the hypothesis that poor sleep quality is associated with detrimental personality trajectories.
