Funguary - Week 4: Caesar's Mushrooms (Amanita caesarea)
🍄 in Italian is called good egg (ovolo buono);
🍄 that's why I made her with a design similar to the fly agaric (evil egg);
🍄 When I saw that picture, I immediately thought to recreate it with this design! I also took the opportunity to try to make a more or less realistic background.

Daily Fungi Fact 122, Happy Ides of March everyone: American Slender Caesar(Amanita jacksonii) is said to resemble Caesar's mushroom(Amanita caesarea), Both the american slender caesar, and caesar's mushroom are edible, but it is not recommended to consume them due to resemblance with other species in the Amanita genus that are poisonous.

Funguary, Day 28 - Caesar's Mushroom 🍄
Obviously, I wanted to do re-enactment of Julius Caesar's assassination on the Ides of March, but with Caesar's mushrooms and as an irreverent shitpost, and this is what I ended up drawing! Most of the drawing was done in a silly low effort cartoon style, except the bust of Pompey the Great as a mushroom bc I thought it was funnier that way lol The entire drawing was sketched out using the Faber-Castell Polychromos coloured pencil in dark red, and then almost everything except Caesar himself and the blood was coloured using more coloured pencils; the Pompey just got the most realistic lighting and shading for the absurdity; the Caesar mushroom was coloured using Copic Ciao markers, with additional shading using coloured pencils, and gold details added using the Staedler brush pen, Uni-ball Signo gel pen, and Sarasa gel pen, though the metallic shininess is lost in the photograph; the blood was done using two red Copic Ciao markers and a lot of colourless blender to get the watery effect. Anyway, I had a lot of fun with this art challenge, especially in terms of challenging myself to try different art styles and media, and it's the second month-long challenge I have completed since returning to doing art, so that's great!

Funguary day 28: caesar mushroom

Megatronus. His frame, so large, so mighty. Yet, his spark...oh so fragile.
And with this doodle of Megatronus flying across the evening sky, ends my participation in the funguary challenge!
To be honest, I would have never even thought of making it 10 days into the challenge, let alone draw and post every single day for an entire month
This challenge, even though pretty tough, taught me a lot, and I hope to use my newfound knowledge for my future art
I still have much art to finish (at least the 13 primes mural series I started), so you can stay tuned for those if you'd like

Funguary 28 - Caesar’s Mushroom
Last day of Funguary has been completed. I have made it another year. I was honestly not sure if I was gonna be able to do it this year because I was having some shoulder issues, but luckily that cleared up and I made it another year, whoo! And the mushroom for today is honestly a really pretty one, the colors are so satisfying to me. But I took more inspiration from the name, get ready for your yearly stabbing Caesar ;)

Funguary Day 28: Caesar's Mushroom
The Caesar's mushroom is one of the very few fungi of the Amanita genus. It is close relatives with fungi such as the death cap (see that post here), however it is edible and reportedly delicious. That doesn’t stop it from having many poisonous look-alikes, as every year there are poisonings of people who thought they were eating Caesar's mushroom but were rather eating a poisonous species.

One of the most famous poisonings involving this mushroom took place in ancient Rome. emperor Claudius had ascended to the throne after the assassination of his nephew. He had many wives in his life but finally married his fourth wife Agrippina. Agrippina had a son, Nero, whom she had big plans for. She persuaded Claudius to adopt Nero, putting him in line for the throne, but she was not a patient woman. You can see where this is going. She decided to speed up the time it would take for her son to take the throne by feeding Claudius his favorite meal, the Caesars mushroom, laced with extracts from the death cap fungi. When the symptoms set in the next day a co-conspirator doctor administered a toxin from a plant called the bitter apple, finishing him off. Nero became the emperor, and the rest was history.

And that is funguary officially finished! One post per day on mycology for 28 days! Started preparing back in January, still finished the research for this post last night. Regardless, I loved it so much, and more importantly, now I have EVEN MORE mushroom facts to force upon my poor unassuming friends. If you're interested in seeing the rest of my posts for funguary you can find them all here!
And from now on, I will have a mushroom post every Saturday so if you're interested in that keep an eye out for it :)
Thanks for listening to my rambles!

Hiiiiiiiiii I’m back LMAO
I’ve been cooking stuff up for fankid content which means I am once again asking for your financial support if you have canon designs for Caesar and Dora yet
If you do HAND EM OVER
If not continue going about ur day LMAO
I'm very happy to hear that!! Your artwork across my dash always brightens my day! Your artwork is hella good, and I love your silly goobers of ocs you have.
I had to whip up Caesar's real fast, so he might look a bit strange? Unsure, idk. He was rushed though. And Bella's was drawn like over a month ago so could be better but eh lol
I can't wait to see what you do!! And obviously expect some art of your guys in return

FOTD #129 : jackson's slender amanita!
jackson's slender amanita (also american slendercaesar, & eastern caesar's amanita) is :an agaric fungus in the family amanitaceae. it is found in canada, mexico & the US, forming mycorrhizal associations :-)
the big question : can i bite it?? this mushroom is edible, but not particularly recommended for consumption.
a. jacksonii description :
"the cap of the mushroom is 8–12 cm wide ; oval at first, becoming convex, typically with a central bump ; sticky ; brilliant red or orange, fading to yellow on the margin ; typically without warts or patches ; the margin lined for about 40–50% of the cap's radius. the red pigment fades from margin toward the centre with age. gills are moderately crowded to crowded, orange-yellow to yellow-orange to yellow. they are free from the stem or slightly attached to it ; yellow to orange-yellow ; crowded ; not bruising. the short gills are subtruncate to truncate. its stipe or stem (90–140 × 9–16 mm) is yellow & is decorated with orange fibrils & patches that are the remnants of a felted extension of the limbus internus of the otherwise white volva."
