Cassandra is already on my Andrew playlist but could I just highlight these verses for a moment under this context

beginning of TRK, when Higgins calls and we get that lowkey hilarious scene of Andrew fucking hanging up on him three times. (y'all truly don't appreciate my boy's sense of humor cause that was hysterical before the conversation became serious)

Andrew's meds make him manic as we know, with that "manic smile" he always has in the first two books before coming off them. I can kind of envision Andrew smoking out his dorm window while medicated for this line. (ex: that scene where Neil comes in to tell him Luther invited the monsters over for thanksgiving)

Luther call out. full stop. "the family" he's his Uncle, "the Christian chorus line" he's a "religious" homophobe. "bet they never spared a prayer for my soul" is also a gut punch when making this connection because it always pissed me off that Luther fought to bring his nephew back to his family yet didn't believe Andrew when he told him about Drake's abuse.

anyway I love doing lyric analysis and connecting them to my fav characters so have a small little taste of my thought process here.

I'm not a full Swiftie, but a friend told to check out Taylor's newest album "The Tortured Poets Department" and as a Greek Mythology nerd I can't help but notice the reference to Cassandra.

Basically Cassandra is a princess that Apollo favoured somewhat but when Apollo denied her, he cursed her with the gift of prophecy but so that nobody would ever blieve her phrophecies.

I think this is the thing where Cassandra phrophecised about the fall of Troy but nobody believed her. --> Many Swifties had already came to this conclusion idk i don't take credit for it

Then we have this line. Where they "killed her with snakes". But that's not how Cassandra was killed... -_-

BUT, WHAT DOES SNAKES HAVE TO DO IN MYTHOLOGY? The most common answer is either Medusa or Hermes.

Hermes is associated with the snake in Greek Mythology due to his staff. Hermes, however, is also the god of thieves, which could be a reference to that Scooter Braun guy or smt.

However, snakes could also be a symbol of wisdom, rebirth and renewal --> a start of a new era? But Idk since they don't symbolise that In greek mythology.

”Cassandra” just really clicked for me and uh. how did I not realize before how good that song is.

I have not seen anyone else talk about this and it's killing me. She says "so they filled my cell snakes" which I can only interpret as a reference to Laocoon, who was another Trojan who saw the future and had no one believe him and when the Trojan horse was pulled in he attempted to stop it only for him and his sons to be strangled by snakes Athena sent (which I could also tie into the Christianity that she mentions especially because the entire war was started over an apple which also translates to manus in Latin but because of this myth the Roman's have the same translation for evil.) Then she says in my tower weaving nightmares, which I can only assume is a reference to Penelope, Odysseus' wife, who refused to take on a new suitor until she was done with her loom, but every night she'd unravel it and start over because she was still waiting for Odysseus to get back.

Cassandra feels so much like what we would've gotten if Taylor wrote a song for the new hunger games movie and I would've been so here for it.
