less than a week until i get my top surgery/mastectomy and im both very excited and very afraid
like i keep looking at myself in the mirror like "oh man, its going to be such a relief to have a flat chest"
but then also im kinda scared about how ill look with all the extra tissue from my underarms and shoulder area removed and also scared they'll find something that didn't show up on the imaging
and im scared of the recovery going badly and unforeseen insurance issues and not being able to work at the pizzeria for a month or more

Hello!
I saw the previous ask about Hypogonadism and I was wondering if Hypogonadism could occur without being related to other intersex variations (Chromosome related) BUT also not be cause by other outside factors (Like cancer, medicine, diet, stress I guess?)
Like is it possible for the gonads to just have formed wrong? (I'm referring to Primary Hypogonadism in this case)
Hi anon!
So there are a variety of factors that can cause primary hypogonadism outside of some of the intersex variations we've been discussing on the blog today (such as Klinefelters, Turners, Kallmanns), and also aren't things like environmental risk factors, diet, etc. This article mentions that undescended testicles that are never treated could cause primary hypogonadism. This article explains that fragile X syndrome and galactosaemia are two examples of other conditions that can cause hypogonadism. (There are also a lot of factors that can sometimes cause primary hypogonadism such as cancer treatment, hemochromatosis, mumps, and also normal aging, as well as factors that can sometimes cause secondary hypogonadism, such as HIV, Pituitary disorders, certain medications, malnutrition, and stress).
Beyond that, what I think you might be curious about is gonadal dysgenesis, which is essentially a term for when gonads develop atypically or don't develop at all, and is associated with a wide variety of presentations of symptoms, including chromosomal variations, hypogonadism, and various reproductive structures. There are many different intersex variations associated with gonadal dysgenesis, and there are a lot of different ways that gonadal dysgenesis shows up, but it can potentially cause disruptions in ovarian or testicular or ovotestes function. There's some case studies out there exploring different intersex people's experiences with hypogonadism with gonadal dysgenesis.
So basically, long answer is yes, atypical gonadal development is potentially a cause of hypogonadism for some people!
Hope that helped, anon!

Starting 2025 right by opening AND closing January with urgent care visits for dumb weird problems. Current self-care chores include changing the bandage on my raw meat toe because it is still "draining" (ew) and swishing antifungal mouthwash around my mouth four times a day for my tongue fungus (EW)

Oppositional defiant disorder I hate you forever
#it shouldn’t exist! it’s a bad disorder and we should stop diagnosing it!#ooooh I get so mad#I’m writing a paper about it and I have had to put all of research away and fully stop thinking about it multiple times bc I’ll read some#crazy shit that pisses me off.#these papers will be like there’s a significant decrease in oppositional behaviors when treated with adhd meds#or like. childhood abuse is a significant risk factor#like no! maybe it’s just like. adhd (which causes irritability!!) or a fucking traumatized kid who doesn’t have right control over their#emotions. like there is no reason for this disorder to exist#I read in something that close to 60% of children diagnosed with adhd meet requirements for odd like maybe it’s fucking. the same thing#causing these issues. have we considered that maybe the disorder known for causing executive dysfunction is like. possibly causing this#executive dysfunction. have we considered this. anyone. has anyone had the thought.#like I understand not everyone with adhd experiences this. however. it’s certainly enough of a correlation that it’s like. bro wtf.#if it needs to be diagnosed it makes much more sense as a signifier on an adhd diagnosis so at least the kid can get access to#accommodations or meds if they need them. instead of being essentially labeled bad kid for life#bc even trying to talk to a doctor to get it off your record is literally taken as proof you have it which is so fucked. god I’m so mad#prsnl

The Surprising Link Between your Genes, Environment and Rheumatoid Arthritis
Causes of RA Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is more than just joint pain—it’s a complex autoimmune disease where the body mistakenly attacks its own tissues. But what triggers this self-sabotage? One day I showed up to D&D and one of the guys in our group, before we could even start playing, was like "guys, look at this thing I found." And pulled up either this exact map or a very similar one that cross checks environmental hazards from industrial facilities with average income (more detailed than by zip code, it was pretty cool). And we use a big TV embedded in the game table for maps and stuff, which he pulled this up on, so we spent like half an hour looking at where we all lived and going "oh. Shit." And then we sat there a bit kind of ambling through some cool down small talk.
And like, the thing that kind of made it real for everyone was the context of it being on the screen we use to look at world maps for a fantasy game. It was very surreal for some of the guys at the table, the more conservative ones in particular, like they could see the map and it was showing them the forces of Mordor marching to their doorstep. And for a short time they understood that there are actually vast and evil forces in this world that they could defeat with a weapon, they were just large corporations commiting environmental crimes with very well protected CEOs and fantastic lawyers.
call me a dirty communist radical but I think everyone should know if they live near toxic waste
