Most Anticipated New Book Releases September 2024
September is a bumper month for titles that have grabbed my attention. I could have easily added another five or so upcoming releases, but tried to whittle this list down to the novels that intrigued me the most: When Haru Was Here – Dustin Thao (YA, Contemporary, Romance, Magical Realism, LGBT+) We Are Okay meets Wandavision in this novel about loss, and learning to let go.After the death of…

HELPPP i forgot cesca is with alpine... how is she coping with the... Situation
She might have her head buried in the sand about it a little bit, although overall it's not super Affecting her. It might be a bit of a push to say she's happy about Flavio acting as TP for now because she knows he's ruthless and she's not stupid enough to think her seat is safe especially after her recent bad luck. the two of them do get along oddly well though, in a purely business sense that I think has something to do with sinister Italian solidarity. Flavio could make her do crashgate 2.0 and Cesca would still find a way to argue that Toto is the most evil TP.
Cesca's much less happy about the Jack/Franco swap though, for a lot of reasons that vary wildly in validity. She thinks it's equally shitty for both drivers that Alpine are willing to rotate that seat to avoid properly investing in their young drivers, although on a personal level she doesn't get along with Franco. She doesn't have anything against him their vibes just seem kinda incompatible which is unfortunate because the gets along with Jack great and they always brought a great energy as a pairing. Also something about them being Franco and Francesca just doesn't sit right.
Overall she's not looking forward to answering all the questions about it at media day in Imola but functionally the changes are all going on around her; as long as she can get in the car and drive nothing really changes for her. This is definitely a major factor in getting her to realise her manager Yadira might be right about looking for a better seat, or even just any other seat, before it's too late.

Libby Spotlight: New eAudiobook Additions
A Holly Jolly Ever After by Julie Murphy & Sierra Simone (read by Chris Brinkley)
Kallum Liebermanis the funny one. As the arguably lesser of the three former members of the boy band INK, he enjoyed his fifteen minutes of fame and then moved home where he opened a regional pizza chain called Slice, Slice, Baby! He’s living his best dad bod life, hooking up with bridesmaids at all his friends’ weddings. But after an old one-off sex tape is leaked and quickly goes viral, Kallum decides he’s ready to step into the spotlight again, starring in a sexy Santa biopic for the Hope Channel.
Winnie Baker did everything right. She married her childhood sweetheart, avoided the downfalls of adolescent stardom, and transitioned into a stable adult acting career. Hell, she even waited until marriage to have sex. But after her perfect life falls apart, Winnie is ready to redefine herself—and what better way than a steamier-than-a-steaming-hot-mug-of-cider Christmas movie?
With decade old Hollywood history between them, Winnie and Kallum are both feeling hesitant about their new situation as costars…especially Winnie who can’t seem to fake on screen pleasure she’s never experienced in real life. She’s willing to do the pleasure research—for science and artistic authenticity, of course. And there’s no better research partner than her bridesmaid sex tape hall of fame costar, Kallum. But suddenly, Kallum’s teenage crush on Winnie is bubbling to the surface and Winnie might be catching feelings herself. They say opposites attract, but is this holly jolly ever after really ready for its close-up?
This is the second volume of the "A Christmas Notch" series.
Hercule Poirot's Silent Night by Sophie Hannah (read by Julian Rhind-Tutt)
It’s 19 December 1931. Hercule Poirot and Inspector Edward Catchpool are called to investigate the murder of a man in the apparent safe haven of a Norfolk hospital ward. Catchpool’s mother, the irrepressible Cynthia, insists that Poirot stays in a crumbling mansion by the coast, so that they can all be together for the festive period while Poirot solves the case. Cynthia’s friend Arnold is soon to be admitted to that same hospital and his wife is convinced he will be the killer’s next victim, though she refuses to explain why.
Poirot has less than a week to solve the crime and prevent more murders, if he is to escape from this nightmare scenario and get home in time for Christmas. Meanwhile, someone else – someone utterly ruthless – also has ideas about what ought to happen to Hercule Poirot . . .
This is the fifth volume of the "New Hercule Poirot Mysteries" series.
In a Holidaze by Christina Lauren (read by Patti Murin)
It’s the most wonderful time of the year…but not for Maelyn Jones. She’s living with her parents, hates her going-nowhere job, and has just made a romantic error of epic proportions.
But perhaps worst of all, this is the last Christmas Mae will be at her favorite place in the world—the snowy Utah cabin where she and her family have spent every holiday since she was born, along with two other beloved families. Mentally melting down as she drives away from the cabin for the final time, Mae throws out what she thinks is a simple plea to the universe: Please. Show me what will make me happy.
The next thing she knows, tires screech and metal collides, everything goes black. But when Mae gasps awake…she’s on an airplane bound for Utah, where she begins the same holiday all over again. With one hilarious disaster after another sending her back to the plane, Mae must figure out how to break free of the strange time loop—and finally get her true love under the mistletoe.
Maybe Next Time by Cesca Major (read by Clare Corbett)
It is an ordinary Monday and harried London literary agent Emma is flying out of the door as usual. Preoccupied with work and her ever growing to-do list, she fails to notice her lovely husband Dan seems bereft, her son can barely meet her eye, and her daughter won’t go near her. Even the dog seems sad.
She is far too busy, buried deep in her phone; social media alerts pinging; clients messaging with “emergencies”; keeping track of a dozen WhatsApp groups about the kids’ sports, school, playdates, all of it. Her whole day is frantic—what else is new—and as she rushes back through the door for dinner, Dan is still upset. They fight, and he walks out, desolate, dragging their poor dog around the block. Just as she realizes it is their anniversary and she has forgotten, again, she hears the screech of brakes.
Dan is dead.
The next day Emma wakes up… and Dan is alive. And it’s Monday again. And again. And again.
Emma tries desperately to change the course of fate by doing different things each time she wakes up: leaving WhatsApp, telling her boss where to get off, writing to Dan, listening to her kids, reaching out to forgotten friends, getting drunk and buying out Prada. But will Emma have the chance to find herself again, remember what she likes about her job, reconnect with her children, love her husband? Will this be enough to change the fate they seem destined for?

feel free to take a look below if you're interested in the reasons behind the constellations on Cesca's current helmet
Tumblr media
blue - Pisces (the fishes)
wraps around the back of her helmet next to Eridanus (the river)
it's Cesca’s star sign! there’s not much more to it than that 😊
pink - Columba (the dove)
mirrored by Cygnus (the swan) on the other side of the helmet.
to Cesca, the dove is a symbol of safe passage. she always takes a moment to look at her helmet before she puts it on and gets in the car, and she’ll often run a hand over Columba in the hopes of staying safe.
green - Canis Major (the greater dog)
chasing the constellation Lepus (the rabbit) in the sky, which Cesca has in a similar position on the other side of her helmet.
this is probably her favourite and most symbolically loaded design on her helmet, as in greek myth it represents Laelaps, a dog that always caught it’s prey. the wikipedia article about it isn’t long at all so give it a read for some even more niche Cesca insight if you’d like.
orange - Lynx (the lynx)
chosen by her eldest brother (and trainer) Alessandro. her other brother, Gaspare, chose Ara (the altar) for the other side of the helmet.
there doesn’t seem to be much mythology to Lynx as a constellation, but Alessandro chose it because he likes big cats; simple as that. he originally went to school for zoology but retrained as a physio later and started working with Cesca from there.
overall stars and constellations are just something Cesca has always found fascinating so they're a bit of a signature for her as a driver (she has a four-pointed star tattooed just above her shoulder blades), as well as something I enjoy linking her to narratively. I'm always open to suggestions of songs that reference stars to go on her playlist.
@racingliners @feketeribizli here are the deets if you're still interested x

Meet This Author: Cesca Major
Q: How did you get started in writing novels? A number of years ago! I wrote diaries, plays at university and had adapted a show too when I was working as an actress. I didn’t ever plan to become a novelist, but I obviously enjoyed writing. Before social media was born, I used to send chain emails to friends and family if I went abroad and people commented that they were quite funny. I suppose…

Al Pacino in Scarface (Brian De Palma, 1983)
Cast: Al Pacino, Steven Bauer, Michelle Pfeiffer, Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio, Robert Loggia, Miriam Colon, F. Murray Abraham, Paul Shenar, Harris Yulin. Screenplay: Oliver Stone, based on a screenplay by Ben Hecht, Seton I. Miller, John Lee Mahin, W.R. Burnett adapted from a novel by Armitage Trail. Cinematography: John A. Alonzo. Art direction: Edward Richardson. Film editing: Gerald B. Greenberg, David Ray. Music: Giorgio Moroder.
Brian De Palma's Scarface ends with a dedication of the film to Howard Hawks and Ben Hecht, the director and the author of the story for the 1932 Scarface. As well it might, for De Palma's film and Oliver Stone's screenplay follow the outlined action and many of the characters of the earlier film far more closely than many remakes do. Most of the major characters have counterparts in the 1932 film: the Italian Tony Camonte becomes the Cuban Tony Montana; the first Tony's best friend, Guino Rinaldo, becomes Manny Ribera; Tony's sister, Cesca, becomes Gina; his boss Johnny Lovo's mistress, Poppy, becomes Tony Montana's boss Frank Lopez's mistress, Elvira. Both Mama Camonte and Mama Montana are sternly disapproving presences, and the appropriate characters are bumped off in more or less the same sequence and circumstances as in the earlier film. Because of the relaxation of censorship, there's a little heightening of some subtext from the first film: Gina (Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio) taunts Tony Montana (Al Pacino) with having incestuous feelings for her more explicitly than Cesca ever dares with Tony Camonte. And although the earlier film was thought to be excessively violent, the remake goes boldly where it didn't dare, starting with a chainsaw murder and ending with a veritable orgy of gunfire, including that of Tony's "little friend," a grenade launcher. The violence of De Palma's film first earned it an X rating, which was bargained down to an R after some suggested cuts -- although De Palma has claimed that he actually released the film without the cuts, and no one noticed. The remake's violence also turned off many of the critics, although it received a strong thumbs up from Roger Ebert. Since then, of course, the movie has become a cult classic, and more people have seen the remake than have ever seen the original. Which is a shame, because the original, despite some occasional slack pacing and the inevitable antique feeling that lingers in even pre-Production Code movies, is a genuine classic, while De Palma's version feels like a rather studied attempt to go over the top. Screenwriter Stone was never noted for subtlety, and while Al Pacino is one of the great movie actors, De Palma lets him venture into self-caricature, especially with what might be called his Cubanoid accent. On the other hand, Steven Bauer -- who was born in Cuba and sounds nothing like Pacino's Tony -- is a more appealing sidekick than George Raft was, and Michelle Pfeiffer, in one of her first major film roles, makes a good deal more of Elvira than Karen Morley did of Poppy, even though Pfeiffer is asked to do little more than look beautifully sullen and bored throughout the film. Scarface is at best a trash classic, a movie whose impact is stronger than one wants it to be.

Sad au time: What if there was a multiversial crack and through that crack came almost 6 major people (villains) who died to a Joestar or died because of a Joestar? How horrified would Cesca be?
Tumblr media
OK! I will try to develop this idea because I liked the context of "seeing beyond the daily basics"
I think Francesca would not be so horrified by what those villains have to say but she would understand the immeasurable hatred they have for them, that would not change the perception that 'Cesca has of the Joestars.
Starting with: Francesca comes from a family of murderers, Francesca was raised within the parameters of "no one will care about you but your family" and from her father to everyone close to her, she has always had death knocking on her door. She obviously is small for those times and she doesn't understand, but we need to remember that gangsters are not known for doing things for humanity if they don't find a way to escape and easy to outwit humanity and sadly Francesca was born in that circle.
Now we turn to Francesca's innocence: she doesn't have any! Francesca is not crime free and she is not a little person to feel sorry for. She clearly since she was 14 years old she had to protect herself against vampires who wanted to use her as food just like many other children who did not have the same luck as her. She killed countless vampires in order to survive and witnessed crusaders harmed or injured other people too. she even witnessed the people Hol-horse harmed.
How would Francesca feel about those villains who demand revenge against the Joestars?
She would simply have to listen to both versions of the facts, she does not discriminate or judge anyone other than murderers with purposes that harm other people (funny because her family is like that, then surely Francesca would be against her own family ) I don't think she's horrified, in the long run she accepted that each person's destiny is written and to die first you have to pay in life.
* I never talked about Cesca living inside DIO's mansion for some months and how she jump off the brainwash that DIO once talked about "his heaven" to Johngalli A and Francesca.

Random selection for the fanfic ask game; z, o, and b, perhaps?
cesca!! thanks for the ask babe!! <3
fanfic ask game
Major character death—do you ever write/read it? Is there a character whose death you can't tolerate?
i do write it and i do read it. sometimes you just want/need that pain, y’know? i mean, not really. im willing to write/read any character death, though of them hit harder than others. (i’ve been trying to emotionally prepare myself to write a sam death fic for months. dammit rose.)
How do you begin a story—with the plot, or the characters?
depends. if it’s an original story, the characters, obviously. but with fanfic, you begin with the plot because the characters are already established.
Any of your stories inspired by personal experience?
not a whole story but certain actions/behaviours. you just gotta project sometime 🤷‍♀️

miss cesca (pronounced cheska) grew up in a somewhat chaotic family. her parents hated each other (but stayed together for necessity - for her and her little brother’s sake), her brother constantly got on her nerves (he was always messing with her and never got in trouble because her parents never paid enough attention to catch him tormenting her), and her extended family weren’t any better (stern grandma, haughty aunt, loud cousins)
due to growing up in a crowded, hectic environment, she’s learnt to just roll with the punches. so she has a kind of carefree energy to her, goes with the flow easily, learns to adapt quick. but growing up with an attention seeking little brother and five cousins who fight her on everything has also made her become quite greedy, always wanting more for herself and holding onto it as tightly as she can (being forced to share everything as a kid will make you not want to share anything ever again)
anything that belongs to her she will label. people who ignore that and take her things anyway have to endure her wrath (she gets creative with her payback). and this possessiveness for her own belongings translates to people sometimes too - her friends, anybody she’s interested in - if you try to take what’s hers she’ll fight you
she installed love alarm only to prove to her brother that she’s more popular than he is sldkjgsdg
yea that’s all i have on her so far!!!! if you’d like to plot pls like this or hmu!!!!!
some updates/new info:
miss cesca cannot handle herself when she’s around a hot guy, like she blushes and gets shy and she Hates when she gets that way so the solution? avoiding hot people as much as she can : ) or force them to wear a paper bag over their head so she doesn’t have to see their face (romeo)
wears contacts. can barely see without them
likes to cook!!! is rl good at cooking (also why she likes it . bc shes good n she wants compliments lksdjfdlsjg)
