Okay, so you all got over this scene far too easily for my liking. It’s haunting my dreams every night. She misses her so fucking much, and I’ve seen (very) few people acknowledge it.

I think we’ve falling into this mindset that Lottie cares for Shauna and there’s no reciprocation of that, but that’s never really been true. From the start they’ve had these little moments of respect, the understanding of what (not) to say.

This is just an excuse for me to make people watch this scene again 😭

Trump to form a task force to “eradicate anti-christian bias”

“While I’m in the White House, we will protect Christians in our schools, in our military, in our government, in our workplaces, hospitals and in our public squares,” he said. “And we will bring our country back together as one nation under God.”

Trump said he would establish a presidential commission on religious liberty that “will work tirelessly to uphold this most fundamental right.”

The president also said he would sign an executive order to make Attorney General Pam Bondi the head of a task force to “eradicate anti-Christian bias.” The task force will aim to stop “all forms of anti-Christian targeting and discrimination within the federal government,” Trump said.

Do you think the United States would elect a Jewish person?

For President? Yes, I do. I don't believe that religious affiliation is as big of a deal with American voters as it once was. When Mitt Romney was the Republican nominee in 2012 people barely blinked at the fact that he was a Mormon, but that wouldn't have been the case just a few years earlier. After all, it wasn't until 1960 that a Catholic (JFK) was elected President (and we've still only had two Catholic Presidents -- JFK and Biden), and Kennedy had to make a major speech in Houston during the campaign to combat the issue of his religion. There were people in 1960 who seriously questioned whether Kennedy would put his religious faith before his Constitutional duties and take orders from the Pope.

But the fact that religion was not an issue with Romney's nomination in 2012 demonstrated that there was some progress when it came to a candidate's religious faith. The Democrats nominated a Jewish person (Joseph Lieberman) for Vice President in 2000, and Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro was on the shortlist for the Democratic Vice Presidential nomination last year and will likely be a contender for the Democratic Presidential nomination in 2028.

The question is whether the United States would elect a Muslim President or an openly atheist or agnostic President. Unfortunately, I don't think this country has made that much progress. And, considering that every branch of the federal government is controlled by a Christian nationalist cult for the foreseeable future, we may be heading in wrong direction on the front.

Satanic Temple in Missouri Makes Legislature Regret Putting Chaplains in Schools

SB 49 and SB118 were the agenda at the Missouri State Senate Education Committee Meeting on February 4, 2025. The identical bills allow Missouri's public school districts to employ or accept volunteer school chaplains, and will require all districts vote on whether or not to implement a chaplain policy by March 1, 2026. Dr. Gwyneth Woodhouse, a Missouri parent and member of The Satanic Temple, and Minister of Satan Virgil Ovid, a member of TST’s Missouri congregation, testified against the bills.

To My Fellow Episcopalians

What a time to be in the Episcopal Church, huh? Our denomination only exists because of the founding of the United States, and we have had a massive influence on this country through most of its life due to our historic wealth and privilege. Heck, just look at our coat of arms. We have historically had a very close relationship with our nation.

Things are different now. Our church, led by the Holy Ghost, has grown and become what many today decry as woke, while the (federal) government is swiftly headed the other way. Open the Book of Common Prayer, and you'll find several places that smack of a patriotism not felt by many of us. The Episcopal Church, once the Platonic ideal of an American establishment church, is drifting apart from the nation that bore her.

Not that that's bad. As we lose more of our privilege and old money, we are forced to reckon with our place in both the US and Christendom. Our church isn't dying, but it is metamorphosing. Much can be said about this, but for today, I hope we can take comfort in the fact that our church heeds God more than any worldly power.

I know many of you may not really feel like observing today as a Major Feast, but until that changes with the next revision of the BCP, I encourage you to do so. It doesn't have to be a day of celebration: it can be one of solemnity or even lament. However you choose, just remember that earthly government, while not our primary allegiance, is still a weighty thing. Do your godly duty first, and your civic duty second.
