recently ive been fileripping ambient environment sfx from pre 2004 pc games. way harder than i thought it would be. i did Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace (PC, 1999) recently theres some really good weird soundscape shit in there. anyway in my search to figure out how to decode/decompress the game audio formats, i found the original game maptool for the whole thing. one of the developers that worked on it actually leaked the whole editor onto a forum in about 2012. he had barely any idea how it worked b/c he didnt make it, and there's fuck all chance of a manual because it was ofc a closedsource tool only used to make a single game. this forum, of course, shut down approx 3 years later, and got merged into the forum archives for the UK Music magazine MOJO and locked completely. there is zero other mention of this tool, its uses, or anyone elses' attempts to use it on the internet.

well, we don't know the specifics because @the-haiku-bot is (as far as i know) anonymous and closedsource, but you can use the tumblr api to get a variety of sources for posts. then it's just a matter of scraping, filtering and formatting a post for the api to reblog.

Jellyfin 10.8.5

Versie 10.8.5 van Jellyfin is uitgekomen. Deze mediaserver is een fork van Emby en is ontstaan nadat Emby closedsource werd en er voor zogenaamde premiumfeatures betaald moest gaan worden, zoals dat ook bij Plex het geval is. Jellyfin is echter volledig opensource gebleven en alle functionaliteit is aanwezig. Het draait op Windows, macOS, Linux of in een Docker-container. Ruby on iOS

Not sure if I've been living under a rock, but I have completely missed the fact that RubyMotion and MacRuby exists.

RubyMotion allows you to use Ruby to develop applications for iOS (iPhone, iPad, iPod touch). You can do exactly the same things as you do with Objective-C. RubyMotion compiles your ruby code statically to LLVM IR and then to assembler/machine code. Performance is the same (and sometimes better) than the Objective-C counter part. And yes, the resulting app follows the Apple restrictions and can be published on the App Store.

The only downside is that it is closed source, and will set you back about $200.

I think this is one of the most exciting things I have seen in quite some time. Now it can be fun to develop for iOS again!
