Random Sabo Headcanons

Summary: A collection of random Sabo headcanons
Genre: Fluff
CW: None // SFW
âââ
Never really gave up on his dream of writing a book about his adventures. He keeps a journal and wants to assemble it all into a manuscript, but he has a lot of self doubt regarding his abilities as a writer. A lot of his journal entries are reflecting on the inequality, injustice, and even outright war crimes he has witnessed the World Government commit. When he publishes it, it will 100% be banned by the Government. Also wants to publish some comics based on his childhood with Luffy and Ace, actually has a knack for it.Â
Has a few habits from his aristocratic upbringing that not even his time in the woods with Ace and Luffy broke him of. He holds his teacup and eating utensils a certain way, he makes at least some effort to adhere to dress codes, etcetera. Most of these habits are in regards to women, whom he treats with the utmost respect; very chivalrous.Â
That being said, he definitely keeps a switchblade in his boot. Heâs a very dirty fighter, wonât hesitate to pull it.Â
Also cheats at monopoly. And nobody ever suspects him because he benefits from pretty privilege.
Has argued with Koala until his voice is hoarse that dragon claw is way better than fishman karate. Could also write an entire book on the merits of fighting with a lead pipe over any sort of fancy sword or spear. Also used to talk serious smack about devil fruit users before he ate his fruit, expects every devil fruit user in the Revolutionary Army to disregard his previous taunts after the fact.
Secretly such a cuddle bug, craves the affection he never received in his childhood. Except itâs not really a secret because he once fell asleep in a meeting and woke up to everyone laughing at him because he snuggled into Dragonâs side.
A pretty good cook, but weirdly enough, can only make a meal in the wilderness. If itâs over a campfire, heâs a chef, but he always causes some sort of accident when he tries to recreate these dishes in an actual kitchen. Credit a childhood in the woods for this one.
Can be a little clumsy, canât really be trusted around breakable valuables. Makes it all the more insane how agile he is during a fight.
His scars arenât just on his face. He has them on his body and hands, too, even down to his ankles, and he doesnât actually like showing them off (thus the reason heâs basically the only character in this universe who is fully clothed) because they symbolize his traumatic past/leaving Ace and Luffy, which feeds into him blaming himself for Aceâs death. Actually spent a fortune on scar creams in an effort to make the scars fade but none of them worked. Is trying to make peace with that part of his appearance.
Has a skincare routine. Nothing fancy, but he exfoliates and applies moisturizer to his face, and he has a special hand cream. Also always has chapstick on, and he carries it around with him. Has multiple extras scattered around. It has a slight pink tint to it that he pretends not to notice. He makes kissy lips at Koala if she tries to tease him about it. Low key the sort of guy to go through your purse in search of hand cream or concealer.
Speaking of, itâs pretty much impossible to tease him/get under his skin. He takes everything in stride, hardly ever gets pouty. Heâs also the only person in the Revolutionary Army who is brave enough to tease Dragon and even argue with him, which is one of the reasons he became Dragonâs second in command.Â
Doesnât do anything special to his hair. It falls like that naturally. Could literally wash his hair with a bar of soap and it still dries as though he had it blown out by a professional.
He doesnât know how to read palms, but he pretends he does to flirt with people. Heâll make things up about the lines in their palms, using it as an excuse to initiate skin to skin contact. Heâs a shameless flirt. Members of the Revolutionary Army often joke about their Chief of Staff being a honeypot. Some Army communications about the matter were even intercepted, and the World Government, not knowing the RA was joking around, actually has it in their file on the Chief of Staff that he will use seduction to get what he wants. When an RA spy find this out and fed it back to the Army, the entire base keeled over in laughter, Sabo included.

The Loyal Pin - Episode 11
Disclaimer: I'm in a mood! I know after this episode, we only have five episodes left, so I'm upset that we still haven't gotten to the angst, yet I'm pleased to know it won't last long because Anin's servants got her back, and her color-coded brothers are covering up all her mistakes, intentionally and unknowingly.
But Pat and her color are on my shit list!
Why is sis so pressed that her daughter is a lesbian like her?! Pin just doesn't share a lighter color of Pat, but she also shares her love of women. What's so wrong with that?!
Unlike Aon, who can't sort out her color, Pin has been consistent in her color and her love for Anin.
Blue Beauty Anin can't help that everyone wants her, but who can do better than princess? Why isn't Pat proud of Pin?
In a room full of color shenanigans, the girls are consistent, and Anin's older brother, in his loyal blue, has to play the long con just so Pat chills the eff out!
Aon of all people now supports the queer agenda, but Pat, who is basically acting like a queer Republican, is having the wildest reactions to two girls being in love.
I'm going to pray for her because she is doing too much. I need her to take a seat and remember that she would still be with her lady if she didn't die. Death tore them apart! Not society or a nosy meddlesome mother.
Like damn! Quit being a hypocrite.
Let the girls decorate the palace with gold streamers that have little pink and blue dangles on them in peace, Patty!
Then this little twerp shows up in my girl Ueangfah's color, but he ain't in love. He ain't loyal. He ain't real.
And even though he insulted and assaulted Pin, she doesn't want to press charges, so I wished Anin would have punched him since I fully believe as a princess she could have gotten away with it.
But instead we get Pat, who is become redder by the second, demanding Pin, who is wearing a purple skirt and clearly mixing her pink color with her Blue Beauty, accompany her to a "friend's" house. (don't let it be a woman friend, you hypocrite!)
This episode is nothing but trials and tribulations because now my girl has to listen to this man's bullshit knowing full well that he is lying yet she'll have to marry him anyway.
Ueangfajh, convert to Catholicism and become a nun, so you can live your life in peace at a convent. You can make pretty fabrics and hang out with women all day. Catholic convents. That's where the lesbians are. That's where you deserve to be.
Or run away with Aon since she is wearing your color now. I don't like her, but she is showing growth, so I'm willing to give her a chance.
But apparently these two are the only lesbians who are going to be allowed to get a happy color-coded ending, and I'm a little sad that in sixteen episodes, we can't manage to get another gay side couple.
I know babygirl, you deserved to kiss a girl too, but don't worry because this is the third time Idol Factory has denied me a proper secondary lesbian couple in a GL, and I'm salty enough for both of us.
Especially because Pink Person Pin is acting just like her mama, and instead of feeling pity for Ueangfah having to marry a shitty man, she gets upset that Anin didn't beat her while she was down and tell her nobody loves her.
And right on time, Pat enters again getting riled up by the pins in the girls hair. Pin may not be her biological child, but these two are exactly the same. They refuse to support the other lesbians, and they get upset over the most ridiculous mess! Put your eyes back in your head, Patricia!
Honestly, I think the dancer did not get sick but instead saw the color-coded lesbian drama play out the day before and said, "this is above my pay grade."
PICK A COLOR, LIAR!
Pin, quit acting like your mother! Anin only has eyes for you! She gave you a ring. She built a house so y'all could exchange colors in it. Support the other lesbians and quit thinking everyone is competition!
Sure, yeah, give Anin a ring to show your possession, so Kuea can also sniff that out and snitch on y'all because Anin's brother doesn't haven enough on his plate trying to cover up all y'alls other hijinks and tomfoolery.
Nevermind! Petty Patty already figured it out and is giving the stink eye instead of REMEMBERING SHE LOVED A WOMAN TOO!
And next week, she's only going to get worse.
But how bad could she really be with only five episodes left to go?
This bitch.

#the colors mean things#the loyal pin#color coded girls in love#episode eleven#let my babygirl kiss a girl#let the other girls thrive#there is room enough for everyone to fall in love#DO YOU HEAR THAT PAT?!#You are a hater!#chill tf out

Ahh, I don't want it to be over! But alas, here we are, so let me tell you about all the gay moments in Peaceful Property one last time:
1

We begin the episode with Home and Peach sitting next to each other and saying sentimental things. Framed by a flamingo. Which is literally a symbol of love (because they're pink and monogamous).

Saying your meeting was destiny while looking each other in the eyes lovingly is somehow not the most romantic line in this episode. It comes pretty close, though.
2

Back in the action, Peach is extremely worried about Home, alone with his would-be murderer.

And when evil lawyer mentions the possibility of Home being dead already, Peach loses is completely. (Though, in a parallel that is funny to me, exclusively, he's again held back by two *according to themselves* oh so weak women. Just like in Kan's home when one woman was enough to completely immobilise him. I'm really not sure why Panpang is so insistent that Peach is so much stronger than her)

Peach knows that they don't have enough time to waste it on those useless cops so he sacrifices himself by confessing to a crime he didn't commit, so at least Kan and Pangpang can try to rescue Home. That's some ride or die devotion right there.
3

A found family bond so strong it single-handedly derailed these scooby doo villains' evil plots several times.
4

Pangpang (seen here cosplaying as a ghost pizza) knows that in true romance fashion, Peach must be the one to save Home. (And because we've already established that physical strength can't be the reason, I'm choosing to believe it's the strength of his love for Home that's giving him the advantage.)

So Peach arrives just in time (there's that destiny, that soulmate timing) to prevent Somkid from stabbing Home. And I've previously talked a lot about how much Home has changed because of Peach, but let's take a second to appreciate how much Peach has changed because of Home. He went from hiding behind his little sister at the sight of a ghost, to jumping without hesitation at an armed murderer to save Home.

And once Somkid has been distracted, Home's first priority is, as they always do when there's danger, to go check on and help up Peach.

And then he just keeps holding him while Somkid is busy coming to the realisation that all the evil shit he did was meaningless.
5

There is no way Mr. Real Estate Heir doesn't know how to tie a tie. This is an excuse to share some comfort before the funeral and it is as understandable as it is boyfriend-coded.
6
There's been a lot of Home/Peach doing something the other had previously done, and here's one more:

Just like Home before, Peach also notices immediately when something seems off with Home and wastes no time to go to him and see if he needs to offer help or comfort.
7
And what is the problem? It's, of course, the impending separation that has Home moping over an electric stove cooker thing.

But well, after almost watching Home die, again, Peach has realised he doesn't want to leave. Because even if Home goes back to the US, at least he'll be around the memories they've made together. So Peach decides to stay.

And despite the excuse he comes up with about dialect speaking ghosts, we, and Home, know the real reason.

The "I love you and I don't want to leave you" might be unspoken but Home hears it anyway.
And Home has also finally figured it out.

So he's not leaving either.

And Peach might be a little obtuse about it at first

But Home's real dream has always been to have a family. And he knows he's finally found his. Grandpa knows he's finally found his.

So Home makes it clear to Peach.

And Peach gets it this time.

(Of course, then they immediately have to make a joke out of it because those two might actually be allergic to seriously talking about their feelings for each other. But the message has been recieved, anyway)
8

Their absolutely perfect timing can only be explained by soulmate shenanigans. (also look at him smile)
9

Even the universe is trying to tell them to embrace the gay. With their Cok Long bar turned Cok Long restaurant.
10

The dialogue from the beginning plays again, over shots of their family meal. And with the expression of destiny, the camera focuses in on them. Because while "family" is for all five of them, their "destiny" is just between the two of them. And they look so soft and happy in its glow.

And they look at each other when they laugh, and we leave them to their truly happy ending.
(And maybe one day in the future they will be able to plainly say "I love you" to each other without having to hide it behind five jokes and three metaphors, but until then, they know the truth of it anyway.)
Lesbian Corner

Kan has come to seriously trust and believe in Pangpang. And Pangpang, who felt like a useless burden at the beginning of the show, is made better by it.

And in reverse, Kan, who's been completely serious and focussed on revenge for the last decade, who'd had trouble letting loose and making connections with others even before her father's not-completely-but-in-effect-death, has found in Pangpang someone who can not only make her smile, but make her make jokes to make others smile.
Just like Home and Peach, these two also complement each other. They make up for each others shortcomings and both grow into happier, more well-rounded people through each other.
And with that it's over. Except not quite because I've still got some extra that didn't fit here.
#i'm so glad they got a real proper happy ending#i'm not a hater of open or bittersweet or even sad endings#but those five deserve to be happy and p'dome's words had me worried for them#also i will miss them#and i will miss all of you#this is the first time i have participated so actively in the weekly discussion around a show#and it was a lot of fun#ok i need to make a joke now because i'm actually not any better at talking about feelings than home and peach#but i can't think of one#cool. bye then.#peaceful property#peaceful property the series

i see you follow taylor swift. do you lime her? and do you associate any songs with the falling fanfic? i think sweet nothing is one that fits very well! some off of folklore and evermore too could fit! lmao im sorry i just like to associate songs to stories and i wanted to know if you do too! congrats on your story its very good!
first of all, hiiii, so nice to meet you! I'm Dams đŠđ»
OMIGOD I LOVE THIS QUESTIOOOON, UM SO I THINK đ€
look, I don't just love Taylor - that woman raised me from when I was twelve years old. like I remember sneaking into the computer room in ninth grade, escaping class on a "toilet break" to go watch the premiere of Blank Space on YouTube with a couple of classmates, and being in the middle of a meeting to get the notification of Taylor posting about releasing the folklore album - like she's been there for me, through it ALL so I was literally waving ziploc bags in the air to catch the air she breathed when I went to her Eras Tour concert here in Singapore yay (It was on International Women's Day so pink pink pink pink but I dressed as Taylor off the folklore cover!)
Now, when it comes to Joel, I'd definitely think "I Can Fix Him (No Really I Can)" gives me so much Joel Miller vibes, the whole sultry beat and the lyrics, it's purely written FOR Joel. Even "peace" especially, "this is me trying" and "cardigan" off of folklore are such Joel songs, the whole comfort of knowing that someone still wants you even after going through hard and tough times, it resonates so deeply with him. Leela still wants him no matter what the hell he thinks about himself, he still wants her even after all the fucked-up shit he's been through and done - "peace" is literally Joel in the flesh.
Leela is halfway between "ivy" and "right where you left me" off of evermore. Some of my all-time favourite songs off that album, and everything about it IS her. Maybe "Midnight Rain" off of Midnights and "Castles Crumbling" is so Leela-coded when you get into the lyrics. That whole push-and-pull thing that Leela has with Joel, hell, with the entire world, these songs capture it perfectly!
"Sweet Nothing", as you said, it is such a MAYA song. It's a lullaby in it's core, I can just imagine Leela singing this to Maya before bed and speaking of lullabies um HELLO? Safe and Sound? So Maya coded!
thank you for this, I had so much fun answering haha

Hiya! đđđđžSweetness*POPđđđđ here!
I totes hope that you've all been enjoying my PSV3 (PlayStation Venus 3) posts so far.
Now I wanna post about what would be extremely SWEET and LOVELY to include.
Okay so imagine this, while fighting together as the PlayStationVerse's brave, beautiful, badass, confident, strong-willed, intelligent, strong, hot, sexy and victorious crossover femme fatale trio known as PlayStation Venus 3, Talwyn Apogee from Ratchet & Clank, Keira Hagai from Jak and Daxter, and Carmelita Fox from Sly Cooper will also share a special passion to do whenever they are not working as their together PlayStation-exclusive femme fatale trio.
That special passion being.......Talwyn, Keira and Carmelita also forming their own singing idol trio exclusively for the PlayStationVerse!
VENUSâ3
Oh yeah, TKC would still be called "Venus 3". However, depending on how the term is used. For example, when fighting together as a all-kickass women trio for the universe of PlayStation, Talwyn, Keira and Carmelita are the PlayStation Venus 3. When they are singing together for the wide PlayStationVerse as it's exclusive singing adult idol trio, they are simply VENUSâ3. (Just add the â aka female symbol between Venus and 3)
Venus, like the second planet from the sun and is the 6th largest planet of the solar system. Also like Venus, the Roman goddess of love, beauty, sex, fertility, victory, prosperity, and desire. (equivalent to Greek goddess Aphrodite)
And 3 obviously because of TKC being a PlayStation Heroine Trio.
Imagine an upcoming canon trait for them in their respective franchises, Talwyn (Ratchet & Clank), Keira (Jak and Daxter), and Carmelita (Sly Cooper) will all be revealed to be extremely great, beautiful, dazzling, sexy and empowering singers with voices that would gracefully pierce through the hearts of their listeners.
Plus, for those who remember my ideal/dream voice posts for TKC, well imagine their next voice actresses being these 3 talented ladies after all:
AmaLee (Amanda Lee) as Talwyn Apogee
Erica Lindbeck as Keira Hagai
Cristina Vee (Cristina Valenzuela) as Carmelita Fox
Lee, Lindbeck and Vee all happen to be very talented singers with such beautiful and lovely singing voices while being incredible voice actresses themselves. (Just go to YouTube, type their names with either "songs" or "singing", and go listen to the song vids.)
Therefore, imagine they could be potential VAs for TKC for my PSV3 idea and more future games of TKC's franchises, while AEC (Amanda, Erica, Cristina) might even perfectly work providing as their singing voices as well!
For their idol color signatures, obviously, they are simply the same as their representing colors for whenever they're fighting together as PlayStation Venus 3:
·Talwyn-Yellow đâŽâ
·Yellow represents joy, happiness, energy, optimism, intellect, and hope.
·Keira-Pink đ©·âŽâ
·Pink represents sweetness, nurture, compassion, femininity, tenderness, and charm.
·Carmelita-Light Blue đ©”âŽâ
·Light blue represents peace, calmness, tranquility, serenity, freshness, and trustworthiness.
Standing together in order: Left-Carmelita, middle-Talwyn, right-Keira. Like this: đ©”đđ©·
For the music inspiration of TKC as the singing VENUSâ3, think of a huge colorful music genre mixture of American/English girl groups whether it's pop, rock, r&b, or edm (electronic dance music).
Plus for singing diva/idol fashion, well think of idols of not only the women musician groups, but also J-POP and K-POP dress up for whenever they're performing on stage. Talwyn, Keira and Carmelita would mostly wear matching outfits in their coded colors depending on the song. Sometimes TKC would wear same colors like red and black together, for example, again depending on what they're singing about.
Finally, please just imagine how much love and support that Talwyn, Keira and Carmelita were to gain as not only femme fatale/heroine trio PlayStation Venus 3/PSV3, but also as Sony's singing idol/diva trio VENUSâ3 by every characters from fellow PS franchises including God of War, Uncharted, Horizon, Death Stranding, MediEvil, PaRappa the Rapper, Ape Eacape, Doko Demo Issyo, Little Big Planet, Knack, The Last of Us and Astro Bot, of the entire PlayStationVerse! They would have lots of fans whether they're fanboys or even fangirls. Picture watching a CGI scene Talwyn Apogee (voiced by AmaLee), Keira Hagai (voiced by Erica Lindbeck) and Carmelita Fox (voiced by Cristina Vee) up on stage, dressed up in matching beautiful and sexy idol/diva outfits in their signature colors, and performing their strong hearts out in front of their gigantic audience who'd be not only characters exclusive to, but also 2nd or 3rd party characters like from Crash Bandicoot, Spyro, Sonic the Hedgehog, Tekken, Street Fighter, Dead Space, Mega Man, Final Fantasy, Devil May Cry, Kingdom Hearts, Dead or Alive and Klonoa, associated with Sony PlayStation, and they'd all be waving LED glow sticks in either colors yellow (for Talwyn), pink (for Keira) or light blue (for Carmelita)! How entertaining would that be for y'all?!
And now I ask what do you all think of this idea? A hot idea of while hopefully making my idea for PlayStation Venus 3 come true, Sony and PlayStation should actually someday plan on Talwyn Apogee of Ratchet & Clank, Keira Hagai of Jak and Daxter, and Carmelita Fox of Sly Cooper as PlayStationVerse's singing idol/diva trio VENUSâ3 with voices of AmaLee (Talwyn), Erica Lindbeck (Keira), and Cristina Vee (Carmelita)?
As always, please feel free to share your comments, opinions and thoughts!
Thank you TOTES much!

"Sometimes the best way to dismantle the patriarchy is with a combat boot on one foot and a kitten heel on the other.
âïœĄÂ°â© story details â©Â°ïœĄâ
collection: Before It All
pairing: yeji x irya
genre: sapphic romance, feminist comedy
rating: general
⧠author's note â§
ok so like,,, you know when you're just vibing and then BAM you see the prettiest girl ever and your brain goes completely offline?? yeah that's basically yeji's entire existence when she meets irya đâ§
honestly this started because i was like "what if we took the biggest chaotic dumbass anarchist and made her fall for literal elle woods but make it spicy" and then these two just ran away with my whole heart?? like yeji is out here thinking she's so tough with her combat boots and chains but then irya shows up in her pink sweater and suddenly our girl's just like "step on me with your kitten heels ma'am"
major inspo was obviously marceline x princess bubblegum (adventure time my beloved!!) and kuromi/my melody vibes because like?? the AESTHETIC?? plus i'm a huge sucker for the whole "tough punk falls for pretty princess but plot twist the princess is actually scarier" trope
also can we talk about how feminism doesn't have a dress code?? like you can fight the patriarchy in docs or designer shoes, throw hands in leather or lace, whatever floats your boat bestie!! these two are literally my way of saying "fuck gender roles but also fuck anyone who says you can't be feminine AND a badass"
basically this is just me throwing my favorite disaster lesbians into a coffee shop and watching chaos ensue. yeji thinks she's a badass until irya smiles at her and then she's just gay pudding đ©â§ we love to see it

main story: fuck me up
read on ao3
read on wattpad
Yeji sees her across the quad and her first thought is: Fuck.
She doesnât mean to stare. Really, she doesnât. But itâs kind of hard not to when the girl looks like a literal ray of sunshine in her pastel pink sweater, soft blonde curls dancing around her shoulders as she laughs at something her friend said.
Yeji shakes her head, trying to refocus on the task at hand. She didnât come to this protest to ogle pretty girls, even if said pretty girl has the kind of smile that could probably cure cancer or some shit. No, Yeji is here for a reasonâto raise hell and make sure the university knows that cutting funding for the Womenâs Studies department is not going to fly. Not on her watch.
She double checks the chain around her wrist, making sure itâs secure. The plan is simple: chain herself to the doors of the deanâs office until they agree to restore the funding. Easy peasy, lemon squeezy.
Except, apparently, chaining yourself to school property is considered âdestruction of university assetsâ and âdisturbing the peaceâ or whatever. So now, instead of righteously raging against the machine, Yeji is bent over the hood of a police car, handcuffs digging into her wrists as she curses under her breath.
âAre you the dumbass who chained herself to the deanâs office door?â
Yejiâs head snaps up at the voice, sugar sweet but with an unmistakable edge of âIâm not impressed.â Itâs Pink Sweater Girl, looking down at her with a mix of concern and exasperation, perfectly manicured nails tapping impatiently against her clipboard.
âDepends,â Yeji says, aiming for nonchalance despite her current predicament. âAre you the student government rep they called to deal with me?â
âIâm the Communications major who now has to explain to the dean why our department shouldnât be defunded just because some idiot decided to cosplay Riot Grrrl Barbie.â
Yeji canât help but grin at that, even as the cuffs dig deeper into her wrists. âRiot Grrrl Barbie?â Thatâs cute. âI was going more for Anarchist Bratz, but I can work with that.â
Pink Sweater Girlâs lips twitch, like sheâs fighting back a smile. Up close, Yeji can see the name on her Student Government ID badgeâIrya Patel, VP. It suits her, Yeji thinks. Pretty and powerful.
âYou do realize this little stunt could get you expelled, right?â Irya asks, perfectly shaped eyebrow arched.
Yeji shrugs as best she can in her current position. âWorth it. They canât just slash funding for an entire department because some crusty old men think feminist theory is too âradical.â Someone had to take a stand.â
Irya sighs, the sound somehow both delicate and deeply exhausted. She looks at Yeji like sheâs seeing something thatâs equal parts intriguing and infuriating.
âOkay, Braveheart, hereâs the deal,â she says finally, stepping closer. Her perfume is florally sweet but with a hint of something spicy, and Yeji finds herself wanting to test her capsaicin tolerance. âIâll convince them to drop the charges and keep this little incident off your permanent record. In return, you promise to engage the two brain cells I know are rattling around in that pretty head of yours before your next act of rebellion. Deal?â
âNo promises on the thinking part,â Yeji says with a cheeky grin. âBut if youâre going to be my knight in shining pastel armour, the least I can do is buy you a coffee after. You know, to say thanks for saving my academic ass.â
Irya blinks, clearly caught off guard. âAre youâŠare you asking me out? While handcuffed to a cop car?â
âIs that a no?â
âItâs a âyouâre an idiot,ââ Irya says, but thereâs a definite hint of a smile playing at the corners of her glossy lips now. âGive me an hour to sort out this mess youâve made. Then weâll talk about that coffee.â
True to her word, Irya gets the charges dropped with a smile, a flutter of her lashes, and a voice that drips with sweetness even as she systematically dismantles every argument the dean tries to until heâs practically apologizing to Yeji for arresting her. Itâs a masterclass in manipulation that has Yejiâs black rotting heart beating faster.
An hour later, theyâre sitting in the campus coffee shop, Irya primly sipping a vanilla latte while Yeji tries not to stare at the way her lips leave little imprints on the foam.
âSo,â Yeji says, breaking the silence. âCommunications major, huh? Figures. Youâve got a tongue that could convince the devil to go to church.â
Irya smiles, soft and wicked all at once. âFlatterer.â
âJust calling it like I see it,â Yeji says with a shrug before taking a sip of her own coffeeïżœïżœblack and bitter enough to match her mood most days.
Irya tilts her head slightly, studying Yeji in that way that makes her feel both exposed and oddly flattered. âYou know,â she says slowly, âyouâre not entirely wrong about one thing.â
âOh? And whatâs that?â
âI think,â Irya says slowly, each word measured, âthat youâre an idiot with more guts than sense. But youâre the kind of idiot whoâs going to change the world someday. If you donât get yourself expelled first, of course.â
âNo promises,â Yeji says, holding up three fingers in a mock salute. âBut for you, princess, Iâll try to keep the felonies to a minimum this semester.â
âHow obedient,â Irya smiles, and Yeji kind of wants to die. âI suppose I should say thank you. For standing up for the department, even if your methods wereâŠunorthodox.â
Yeji shrugs, gaze flickering to her coffee. âYeah, well. Couldnât let the man keep us down, could I? Smashing the patriarchy waits for no one and all that.â
Irya is silent for a moment. Looks at her with narrowed eyes. Then she nods, decisive, and reaches for Yejiâs hand.
Yeji stills, hardly daring to breathe as Iryaâs perfectly manicured fingers wrap around her wrist, right where the cuffs had been. She turns Yejiâs hand over and presses something into her palm.
âWhatââ
âMy number,â Irya says, releasing her with a smile thatâs almost shy. âFor the next time you decide to fight the power. Maybe give me a heads up first so I can bail you out before the cuffs come out, though. Not that Iâm opposed to cuffs in general, of course. But I prefer mine with a bit moreâŠpadding.â
With that bombshell dropped, Irya stands, smoothing her skirt and shouldering her designer bag like she didnât just make Yejiâs heart stutter.
âIâve got a Womenâs Student Association meeting to get to. But this wasâŠfun. Donât be a stranger, Anarchist Bratz, yeah?â
Then sheâs gone in a cloud of expensive perfume and the click of kitten heels, leaving Yeji slack-jawed and clutching a napkin with ten neatly penned digits like itâs the holy grail or something.
âFuck,â Yeji breathes to the empty chair across from her. âI think Iâm in love.â
And okay, maybe itâs not love quite yet. But as she sits there, tracing the looping cursive of Iryaâs number, Yeji knows one thing for sure.
Black combat boots and pink pearls are a good combination.

CARENTAN-LES-MARAIS, France (AP) â Together, the collective age of the bride and groom was nearly 200.
But World War II veteran Harold Terens and his sweetheart Jeanne Swerlin proved that love is eternal as they tied the knot Saturday inland of the D-Day beaches in Normandy, France.
Their respective ages â heâs 100, sheâs a youngster of just 96 â made their nuptials an almost double-century celebration.
Terens called it âthe best day of my life.â
On her way into the nuptials, the bubbly bride-to-be said:
âItâs not just for young people, love, you know? We get butterflies. And we get a little actionalso.â
The location was the elegant stone-worked town hall of Carentan, a key initial D-Day objective that saw ferocious fighting after the 6 June 1944 Allied landings that helped rid Europe of Adolf Hitlerâs tyranny.
Like other towns and villages across the Normandy coast where nearly 160,000 Allied troops came ashore under fire on five code-named beaches, itâs an effervescent hub of remembrance and celebration on the 80th anniversary of the deeds and sacrifices of young men and women that day, festooned with flags and bunting and with veterans feted like rockstars.
As the swing of Glenn Miller and other period tunes rang out on the streets, well-wishers â some in WWII-period clothes â were already lined up a good hour before the wedding, behind barriers outside the town hall, with a rousing pipe and drum band also on hand to serenade the happy couple.
After both declaring âouiâ to vows read by Carentanâs mayor in English, the couple exchanged rings.
âWith this ring, I thee wed,â Terens said.
She giggled and gasped, âReally?â
With Champagne flutes in hand, they waved through an open window to the adoring crowds outside.
âTo everybodyâs good health. And to peace in the world and the preservation of democracy all over the world and the end of the war in Ukraine and Gaza,â Terens said as he and his bride then clinked glasses and drank.
The crowd yelled âla mariĂ©e!â â the bride! â to Swerlin, who wore a long flowing dress of vibrant pink.
Terens looked dapper in a light blue suit and matching pink kerchief in his breast pocket.
And they enjoyed a very special wedding-night party:
They were invited to the state dinner at the Elysee Palace on Saturday night with President Emmanuel Macron and U.S. President Joe Biden.
âCongratulations to the newlyweds,â Macron said, prompting cheers and a standing ovation from other guests during the toast praising French-American friendship.
â(The town of) Carentan was happy to host your wedding, and us, your wedding dinner,â he told the couple.

The wedding was symbolic, not binding in law.
Mayor Jean-Pierre Lhonneurâs office said he wasnât empowered to wed foreigners who arenât residents of Carentan and that the couple, who are both American, hadnât requested legally binding vows.
However, they could always complete those formalities back in Florida if they wished.
Lhonneur likes to say that Normandy is practically the 51st state of the USA, given its reverence and gratitude for Allied soldiers and the sacrifices of tens of thousands who never made it home from the Battle of Normandy.
âLove is eternal, yes, maybe,â the mayor said, referring to the newlyweds, although his comments also fittingly describe the feelings of many Normans for veterans.
âI hope for them the best happiness together.â
Dressed in a 1940s dress that belonged to her mother, Louise, and a red beret, 73-year-old Jane Ollier was among spectators who waited for a glimpse of the lovebirds.
The couple, both widowed, grew up in New York City: she in Brooklyn, he in the Bronx.
âItâs so touching to get married at that age,â Ollier said. âIf it can bring them happiness in the last years of their lives, thatâs fantastic.â
The WWII veteran first visited France as a 20-year-old U.S. Army Air Forces corporal shortly after D-Day.
Terens enlisted in 1942 and, after shipping to Britain, was attached to a four-pilot P-47 Thunderbolt fighter unit as their radio repair technician.
On D-Day, Terens helped repair planes returning from France, so they could rejoin the battle.
He said half his companyâs pilots died that day.
Terens himself went to France 12 days later, helping transport freshly captured Germans and just-freed American POWs to England.
Following the Nazi surrender in May 1945, Terens again helped transport freed Allied prisoners to England before he shipped back to the U.S. a month later.
Swerlin made it abundantly clear that her new centenarian husband doesnât lack for rizz.
âHeâs the greatest kisser ever, you know?â she proudly declared before they embraced enthusiastically for TV cameras.
âAll right ! Thatâs it for now !â Terens said as he came up for air.
To which she quickly quipped: âYou mean thereâs more later?â

"think code pink vs stop torture now" i was a kid during the iraq war. could you explain this?
sure! code pink women for peace is an anti war group started in 2002 in response to the us involvement in afghanistan and what was very clearly heading for a multi-president occupation of multiple countries in the middle east. they did (and do) great work. however, sometimes their actions get a little... gimmicky. like showing up on the white house steps with aprons and brooms to "clean house" as a message to george w. bush they wanted him impeached. The gimmick of that action kinda takes attention away from the reason they wanted gwb impeached, which was his repeated war crimes.
stop torture now is a group that compiled and released the torture report in 2020, which continues to call out gwb (and the rest of his crew) for their war crimes.
you need both flash and message to effective activism. i'm glad that as my mother's child, i saw the insides of both of these groups and learned that lesson. if you're too interested about you and your attention and your gimmick and your claim to this activism. YOUR side of history... then you're going to end up in gimmicky things like "cleaning house" vs serious activism.
***note code pink does do serious activism too. just the height of their organization got a bit gimmicky. i have been involved in serious code pink protests (and organized one in 2006!!!) these are two groups that had their height at about the same time and i know them both because i was involved with them through my mother who got arrested for civil disobedience in both groups. We're talking getting arrested for chaining yourself to the picture/postcard area by the white house to send a message that you want the war to end by being annoying (code pink) vs getting arrested by trespassing on a private airport to deliver a people's indictment to a private company contracted by the US military to kidnap people and take them to torture sites so the US military could pretend they weren't doing it (stop torture now).
hope that clears up my point!
