Redips was Spider the whole time and Spider was never real: So stupid it hurts, it completely wastes a perfectly good character for literally no reason AND didn't shapeshifting Reploids needed to copy an existing Reploid in order to shapeshift into them or was that just Axl? Whatever, it's still dumb.

Spider was a real Reploid who Redips impersonated: Not perfect, but still so much better than the other option. Makes so much more sense imho. Also... Angst Potential. So much more Angst Potential.

Commander Headcanon

(Some Command Mission spoilers below)

Signas and Chief R were long-time friends. The two were practically brothers thanks to their similarities in their behavior, philosophies, and experience. The only difference between the two was that Signas was the only Reploid to have diagnostics testing identical to X's before activating (just not as long as X's 30+ years). Chief R, being around Signas for so long, made him socialize sooner, so he began to behave like the Commander over time. Chief R knew about the Maverick Hunters but never knew who was in it except Signas and Alia. This is why he didn't know X until the last minute.

What about Signas and Colonel Redips? This one is a troubled relationship. The government wanted to have another leader in the Maverick Hunters besides just Signas, and Colonel Redips was the Reploid specifically made and chosen for the job. Unlike Signas, Redips was not tested for several years, and he wasn't even socialized before starting the job.

The two clashed immediately.

Signas believed Redips to be too harsh and cold towards the Hunters. Redips thought that Signas was weak and obsolete compared to him. After all, Redips had his copy ability just like Axl; he was a New Generation Reploid. He actually thought he was better than Signas. At one point, he even called Signas an "old model" and cackled when he bragged about taking over. Signas reminded Redips that he wasn't "taking over" as he was just being added in as another leader. They were supposed to help each other. Redips vehemently denied that.

Signas quietly predicted Redips' maverickism in the future.

Once Redips was ultimately defeated, Signas remained to be the only leader for the Hunters as long as he was operable and will stay as the only leader as the government feared another power corruption incident. The government looks at Signas as the most stable Reploid in existence so far.

Signas was deeply pained by Chief R's brutal murder. He quietly grieved his brother's death while Colonel Redips stalked about in and out of the Headquarters. Signas did not do anything to have Redips apprehended. It would have been a lethal move considering the Colonel's unstable mental state. Unlike Signas, Colonel was a New Generation Combat Model. Signas is a normal, non-combat model. Redips would have easily sliced him in half or had him easily gunned down and the Hunters - no - the world could not lose their trustworthy military leader. He silently counted on his reliable S-class trio to do the fighting and they did.

To this day, Signas still has nightmares about the Eurasia Crisis, the Nightmare Pandemic, and now, the death of his best friend.

Recharging is hard for the Commander sometimes...

So, about Mindshift, where do the Navigators fit into the mix?

Some of them have lore or some particular quirks...

Iris is biiiig. Like around the size of Colonel (which also makes her like, 2 feet taller than redips)

Alia had already been in the hunters a while before x5, shes one of the mass-produced navigator units but she got a promotion before x5 which is why shes getting to command x and zero along with not appearing like once.

Middy and techno are fuckin wild. They are literally, directly the mother computer and the bodies they do have are basically hollow puppets so they can properly communicate and interact with other reploids who are not massive supercomputer complexes.

These aren't listed in any particular order.

Spider from MegaMan X Command Mission!

He starts out as a bounty hunter, just out to make money. He's super smooth and doesn't really care about anyone or anything except his one friend and hunting partner Aile who was severely injured as a result of Spider's actions (it is never stated exactly what happened). He comes after the player character, X, to discover that he has befriended Aile (who is now dead), so Spider decides to work together with him to take down his boss Jango and help them stop Epsilon, the Rebellion Army commander who is actually just a puppet under the control of Colonel Redips, the guy X was working for until he revealed that he was ACTUALLY the bad guy all along and is trying to rule the universe.

About halfway through the game, X and his friends are lured into a trap. Laser beams cover the door and the room is set to self-destruct, but Spider sacrifices himself by pushing their current enemy Incentas (also a Rebellion Army puppet) into the lasers, blowing up the wall (and himself) so the others can escape, despite everyone telling him to stop.

When I was a kid he was the coolest character I'd ever seen in my life. ...And he may still be.

Aloy, from Horizon Zero Dawn!

She's very sweet (I mean there are a lot of mean dialogue options in the game but in my opinion none of them really seem to suit her) and very determined. Also she grew up as an outcast, like me, and eventually found people who accepted her.

I love her so so much and honestly I aspire to be like her.

Like Spider, he's a very suave dude but infinitely more... high-octane.

Honestly don't remember much of his in-game lore but the player teamed up with him to go take down an enemy and... he died...

He's... what can I say? He's the best. He starts out knowing exactly what he needs to do, and then CORVUS takes over his mind and he doesn't know anything anymore. But he doesn't KNOW he doesn't know anything so everyone around him can tell that he's slipping but he has no idea.

I don't really know why I like him so much but I do. I would die for him

(Also he died as well! Funny how that seems to be a common element among my favorite characters.)

These pieces are pretty old, but I'm still pretty proud of myself for getting out of my comfort zone and designing a Mega Man OC set in the X era. This is Pixie, an AU character I designed as a bit of a "What-If" there was no Massimo. She serves as the party's "tank" as well as Colonel Redips' 1st Lieutenant. From Navigator to a Maverick Hunter with a decent kill count, she's ready to throw down!
