The pivot from Certain Corners to kashmir and indo-pak from gaza and i/p is frankly hilarious like. It is somehow coming across as extremely racist to graft the same narrative of colonial power/noble savage onto every world conflict over and over again. And its more than a little insulting to the hindu victims of islamic terror, the muslim victims of islamic terror and victims from all backgrounds of state terror, to deny the vast and complex historical and religious contexts of yet another contested region that has been denied the right to this complexity over and over again in its long existence!

They regularly ask me to let them in the other's enclosure so they can cuddle. When Sakura thought I was pestering her sister she put herself between me and her; incredibly brave of her as she is still afraid of human hands (but much better than she use to be.)
Tumblr media
When Sakura gets frightened she'll run to her sister and often hide her head under her.

Both enjoy exploring and doing their enrichment activities together. Seeing this on a daily basis, and the bond these little ones have with each other (and me) I think more research needs to be done regarding the current belief Hognose snakes are incapable of emotion or bonding, and are completely solitary. While both go to their individual dens after socializing, both seek each other out and cuddle together. (They are only allowed together while I'm there watching as sometimes snakes will eat each other, and they seem to enjoy having their own home space when it isn't play/cuddle time.) Sakura benefits so much being with her sister, just being near her she's exponentially braver and far less jumpy, and will watch her sister with great interest learning from her.

The shape of the bee larvae capped cell determines their gender role
The shape of the honey bee larvae 🐝 cell capping, determines their gender and role in the hive. Cell capping is a unique process that worker bees use to produce drone bees, worker bees, and a new queen for the hive.

the hard to swallow pill for a certain corner of the internet is that this thing of gen x, y, z whatever is extremely americanized and not at all accurate to most people's experiences growing up, I know the concept of generations is mostly created to pin point times in society, the behavior of a group and what movements were created etc etc, but in what moment did we start making this thing so niche and as if it was defining of people's personalities? putting everyone in this homogenous groups with no regards to the historical, social or economic influence over them? and yet god forbid someone tell this to tiktok influencers whose entire public is built on categorizing gen z as this bimbos, gets everything in a silver plate, lazy generation that never takes anything serious haha we're so funny, literally the only thing we all can agree with is: we're the generation with no prospects, we're fucked and we know it and still there could be some disagreement in that

So like, imagine this. It's the first big family reunion after COVID restrictions let up, your family took a few years to all get vaccinated, ect. Your kid is 6, so they weren't old enough to take to the last one, this is the first time they're meeting some of these more distant relatives. So you introduce them to Uncle Mike, and you say "This is Uncle Mike. He thinks you're so small and delicious, and that it'd be so easy to pick you up and throw you at the nearest wall and break all your bones." If that 6 year old then power kicks uncle Mike in the nuts and runs away screaming, whose fault is that?
So this post is about Doctor Who. The patron unknowable Eldritch entity of your country has just spent an entire afternoon telling you that the universe is full of things that are stronger and bigger than you, and a lot of them will happily blenderize your planet for a bit of rocket fuel, or eat all of you for a big Sunday brunch. And he's letting that ship full of slavers happily fly away to tell the entire galaxy about your tiny planet's existence. You are an animal, your empathy and reason only extends to the boundaries of what you can understand, and the Doctor has just told you that the vast majority of the galaxy sees you as prey. Me, personally? I'm with Harriet, I wouldn't stand a chance in that situation, I'd 100% take that shot.
All I'm saying is that if the Doctor wanted to foster empathy, they probably shouldn't have started with enthusiastically explaining how cleverly the aliens were going to coerce them into slavery, especially not to a woman who grew up in Britain as it rebuilt itself from the blitz in a post-nazi Europe

@fatedmuses : we're in this together . no one gets left behind . (Kiki @ Vex?)

It's a lovely sentiment, if not an adorably naive one. She's come to expect such notions from Keyleth, the unending font of positivity for Vox Machina. However, unlike when Vex'ahlia herself made such remarks, she has the distinct impression that the Ashari believes it.
No one gets left behind.
Tumblr media
"You've a plan, then?" Fingers lift to pinch at the bridge of her nose, dark eyes shutting as she tries to block out the sunshine that Keyleth practically radiates. They were an odd match, but... their hearts are not so different. So desperate to protect those they cared about.

can we get an update on your apocalypse cats story?! (no pressure though)
Got a few things! Been slowly chipping at it:
Keeping my original pitched social hierarchy: Queen -> Queen’s Court (which has a handful of roles within it that also have their own social structure) + Queen’s direct Offspring (typically the heirs to the throne; highly targeted for assassinations by other court members) -> Workers (temporary name, i gotta think of something better. also consist of their own social hierarchy, those that work with the queen and court often get better treatment and stature than those who don’t).
Kitten and male cat behavior. I want to include kit killing in this, the Yarmouth clowder is a very tense place within the court. It’s not an instinctual thing, it’s done discretely and with thought.
The coastal territory would lead to VERY gloomy and rainy weather, their home base is probably within one of the abandoned buildings.
Some of the wildlife would be mutated, for funsies
Currently I’ve got a few characters in mind of wanting to center the story around, I need to rotate them a bit to get a better hold on their stories before I decide on anything.
But the names though, I’m at war with myself. Recently rewatched a bit of Gargoyles and love the idea of the cats being named after streets. Lovitt, Gardner. The issue is the cats can’t read, and even if they begin to understand that the symbols have meanings, there’s absolutely no way they’d be able to discern the sounds without being taught….which is impossible. The better way would be to go this means X in their conlang but it translates to something in English such as “Hook” or “Brick”, useful things that the cats would actually name themselves.
But come on…a cat name Argyle I’m clawing at the door
