I am an artist. I am broke. Every single month.

I love what I do. But as a self published artist and game designer I don't make very much money. Like, almost nothing. I live in a single room I rent from friends. My brother and I have to rent a studio space for our business because neither of us have room to work at home. Every month starts with me paying about half my total monthly income to cover my business expenses. If I'm lucky, over the month we'll sell enough books/PDFs that I can recover that, which then means I can pay rent, groceries, medication and utilities.

Many months we don't sell enough books, so I end up doing commissions or some illustrators to make up the difference. This will add 10 or more hours to my 70 to 80 hour work week.

Most months I walk to work about half the time to save money, instead of taking the bus.

Money is always tight. That's just how it is when you're an artist. I've been making free Modest Medusa comics every week for almost 15 years. I have a Patreon you can support. I have books you can buy. I'd really appreciate it.

My brother Nick and I have been working on our game The Magical Land of Yeld for half a decade. You can buy the book or PDFs. We release new content for the game every month.

I'm used to not having much income. And I'm lucky to have the support I do have! I wish I made more money creating my art, but I'm not going to stop making my art. I cant. There's no version of life where that happens. Sometimes I do have good months! Sometimes I get to take our game or my comic to a convention and make a few hundred extra bucks. When I have a good month, I buy things I need (or want). I pay bills and put money into our business. There's never anything left over. I don't have savings. That's fine! Being poor is part of the whole thing. What I do makes me so happy, and its all I care about. I'm never NOT going to work 70-80 hours every week making art, even if it generates no money at all. But life is SO MUCH EASIER when my art does bring in some money.

Cormac McCarthy’s The Road has been adapted into a graphic novel by Abrams ComicArts. The 2006 Pulitzer Prize–winning novel was previously turned into a film of the same name in 2009.

Adapted by French cartoonist Manu Larcenet, the 160-page post-apocalyptic tale is available in hardcover and e-book. Preview several pages below.

A nameless father and son try to survive with their humanity intact in a post-apocalyptic wasteland, where Earth’s natural resources have been diminished and some survivors are left to raise others for meat.

Okay, I DID take my sweet time with this update. This is not an abandoned project, I was busy playing BG3. Can you blame me :D Anyway. "Heart full of static", pages 44 - 56 are on AO3 now, awful as ever.

Superman's Girl Friend, Lois Lane #125

Lois stops her sleepwalking roommate from killing them who then says she doesn't know what they’re talking about and after Lois nags Marsha about sticking to her diet everyone goes to bed troubled.  

The next day Lois is tired and after a dig at Clark they leave for an assignment when a motorcycle gang nearly runs them over and Lois nags Clark for being a weakling before they check out the statue of Superman the city is building. 

 At home, Lois and two roommates, Marsha and Melba, eat and Lois nags Marsha about calories, and they discuss Kristin’s episodes and their evening plans.  

That night they’re on an escalator as a gang member sabotages it.  

Superman turns the rubber banner into a lasso to save everyone then goes to stop the gang before Lois gets in more trouble.  And as he captures them Lois fixes the controls.

Soon after they attend the lecture of a device that can locate a war criminal, and Kristin feels ill and leaves.  

Suddenly the lights go out, but Clark finds a working one and after a brief improvised Rockette show it reveals the professor has been murdered. 

 Outside the gang members flee and Lois's taxi loses them. Back home Kristin tells them she had managed to get into a concert, but it seems suspicious.  

The next day the statue is being taken to the Metropolis Towers via helicopter and Lois hitches a ride on the statue. The helicopters are hijacked (...a hijacked aircraft being flown to the city’s towers...) and taken to a barge (sigh of relief) run by the motorcycle gang and they think she’s onto them for stealing the professor’s film.  

Superman blows away the helicopters and saves Lois and the leader of the gang is crushed under the statue’s broken hand, an avenging hand of justice Superman says. 

 The leader is really a wanted war criminal, Lois noticed something off with the workmen having different boots, after the statue was fully assembled they had to take the whole thing.  

Lois then wonders about a possible connection between Kristin Cutler and the Professor Messerschmied since messerschmied means cutler in German. (and you just know this) Still, Kristin is suspicious, and the women are off put by her smiling as she feeds piranha. (and this comes to nothing a red herring if you will)

This was printed in the 1970s so diet culture was a big thing back in the day and now as a society we recognize the dangers of obsessive thinness and food restriction
