How Brazil's CCXP became a global pop culture icon

The conference, starting Thursday and running through Sunday, is expected to generate R$1bn in revenue for São Paulo

Back in 2014, during the inaugural edition of the Comic Con Experience, Pierre Mantovani was hopeful that at best, the pop culture conference could draw in 60,000 attendees—a risky investment in Brazil, despite its tradition in the United States. “At the time, nobody thought it was possible to host a better event than the Americans. Not even us,” says the CEO of Omelete Company, the organizer of CCXP.

A decade later, the event—running from Thursday to Sunday in São Paulo—has become one of the most significant events on the international entertainment calendar, attracting participation from movie studios, streaming platforms, video game companies, and comic book publishers.

For fans, who flock to enter the conference, it is a chance to attend premieres of highly anticipated films, roam the halls dressed as their favorite characters, and see Hollywood stars up close. This year’s lineup includes English actor Matt Smith, from “House of the Dragon,” and American actor Giancarlo Esposito, from series like “CSI” and “Breaking Bad.”

Last year, CCXP attracted 297,000 attendees (surpassing the 92,000 in 2014), with an estimated R$900 million in revenue generated for São Paulo. This figure includes R$547.3 million in direct revenue and R$352.8 million indirectly. Attendees from outside São Paulo spent an average of R$2,300 on accommodation, transportation, dining, nightlife, etc., including the ticket cost. This year, the total financial impact is expected to exceed R$1 billion.

How did CCXP reach such heights? Creating an event of this scale became a business necessity for Omelete Company, says Mr. Mantovani, who was previously focused on online content production.

Kira and Jack will take part in the Comic Con Experience 2023 #CCXP2023 in Brazil this Saturday to talk about the new Thundermans Movie #TheThundermansReturn !!!

At the moment there is not much information about this event, but Kira has already confirmed that she is coming to Sao Paulo (therefore I'm pretty sure Jack will be there in person too - but he hasn't posted about it yet).

This is really exciting!!!

Okay. So let me sum up recent events (with the help from a friend who lives in Brazil): Destiel has gone canon again, this time in Brazil, at CCXP 2024. Misha didn't say anything we haven't heard him say on other con stages, but it's always delightful to hear it again. Also if I'm not mistaken, this is the first time it's been said in Brazil, and Misha said this at a huge comic con. Misha spoke about Bobo approaching him in S14 about the confession and how Cas would confess his love to Dean, "not like a brother, like a lover." Misha also talked about how proud he is of the scene for representation. Warner Channel Brazil uploaded the clip where he talked about representation to their profile, so Cas being queer and in love with Dean is right there on the profile of a big tv network in Brazil. Antis are very very angry about these developments and at Misha for speaking on the pov of his own character and actual things that actually went on behind the scenes. Denialists are in the replies on Warner Channel Brazil wailing how Dean is straight, even tho Misha only talked about Cas's pov. A Rogue Journalist at Folha Sao Paulo, which is a very major newspaper in Brazil, reported Misha's comments accurately, but then grabbed the ball and ran all the way down the field, with a headline saying "Dean and Cas became a couple" and that Cas "died in the beloved's arms." Which Misha did not say. Misha only spoke on Cas pov and did not say that, but his antis and the anti-destiels don't care so they're attacking a major Brazillian newspaper over a ship.

Hi @neil-gaiman it's unlikely you will see and read this, but I wanted to try anyway. Bear with me, this might be a bit long but it's extremely important for me.

In 2021, Andrea, one of my best friends passed away. Some time before she did, she bought me this beautiful hard cover edition of Death's comics you wrote.

I'm not much into comics, I admit,but she bought it for me because she loved them and thought I would as well

I slowly started to read them, and got a bit lost as I'd never read Sandman before either. But what I read, I enjoyed. I liked how different Death was described in it.

After she passed away I couldn't make myself continue reading it for a long time. And then, last year, the Sandman tv series was launched

So I decided to watch it, maybe learn more about the universe and go back to finish the comics after.

But when I saw Death... All I could think about was Andrea. Death's character was beautiful. The way you envisioned death and translated into your work really moved me. And it helped me a great deal with dealing with my friend's passing. And I want to thank you for that.

Last year on Brazil's comic con (CCXP) I got the chance to briefly see the amazing Kirby Howell-Baptiste who kindly signed my book for me from the stage.That meant a great deal to me.I hope to, one day,also get a chance to meet you and have this same book signed by you. Thank you

Never one to start a fight or even anger much at all, Benny was laidback and easygoing. He had a calm life, and his personality was upbeat. Nothing ever seemed to bring him down. DT: Our Timeless Story Zeca & Zico

New adventurers in the making! Pranksters looking to cause mischief! Nephews of one of the Three Caballeros! Here is Zeca and Zico!!!

Long story short I learned Jose had a comic series in Brazil and in it he had a pair of nephews, twins even, so I decided to bring them into my story project as part of the main cast! Give them the love they really needed and such.

Zeca is the sportier twin, the one who engages in varying physical activities, but most of all he's an avid soccer player who was one of the star strikers on his team before he moved to New Quackmore with his uncle Jose. Zeca holds a more adventurous flair to him that had been passed on by his uncle when he began to take care of him upon his mother's passing, becoming good friends with Dewey and Gosalyn the moment he meets them for the first time.

While Zeca is more active and physically active, Zico is primarily a low energy kind of guy who is just pretty much chill, but behind that sly smirk is the tongue of a flirt that can woe the hearts of both boys and girls alike, having inherited the charisma of his dear tio. A lover of music Zico had taken himself to master the trades of drums, piano, bass, and guitar, not to mention dancing and vocals, becoming his own one man band, a talent in which he likes to flaunt, especially when Louie pretty much guarantees he can make money on the side.

Since moving to New Quackmore the twins began to attend school in Duckburg on recommendation by their uncle Jose, especially in order to bond with the nephews of his best friend Donald. They grew up with the stories of adventure that Jose had told them, from the times he was battling the evil warlock Felldrake, his journeys in his college band, how he was capable of conning some of the most dastardly foes, his teachings of magic, and even his many romances, all of which having mixed opinions upon them. Wanting to be a part of the adventure that their uncle told them about they are in luck when the duck triplets had discovered the journal that will lead them to the Lost Collection.

Finally an adventure they always wanted! Excitement and thrills in which Zeca can enjoy! Romances and wonder for Zico to experience! The adventure is on and they are ready to experience it all!

Hello everyone!

I want to say think you once again for this year! The first half was very calm, and then boom! The second half hit me like an isekai truck.

The second half of this year had my beloveds @blackdragonflower and @_flak visit me (yes, they came to Brazil!), then followed by me going to hospital with gallbladder sludge, right after i had a cosmetic surgery to fix some skin flaps on my top surgery scars.

Then after that, i attended the Brazilian Comic Con, which had my very hastily, put together at 2am portfolio, being approved by🤫's Talent Manager! I was a table assistant to Gio Guimarães, an incredible artist on her own!

I couldn't been here today without your support. I depend fully on commissions to be here, it is my job, but above all else, it's my passion; and i love it, every bit.
