Communication
THE COMMUNICATION PROCESS
Every day, we converse with people, verbally and nonverbally, knowingly and unknowingly. We communicate by talking, either personally or through online chats and electronic mails. Inversely, we also communicate with our eyes, with our body movements, and gestures – our body language. There is an exchange of information between individuals, and that is what we call communication.
“Communication is a systemic process in which people interact with and through symbols to create and interpret meanings” – Wood, 2011.
The communication process is simple. As long as there is a message to be transmitted to a receiver, then communication exists. However, due to some factors, the transmission can be delayed, or worse not delivered at all. If the message sent is not interpreted, then there’s a communication glitch. Language barriers subsist. Some examples are words having different meanings in different dialects.
“Bigat” in Tagalog means HEAVY
“Bigat” in Ilocano means MORNING
“Papaitan” in Tagalong means SOMETHING BITTER
“Papaitan” in Ilocano means GOAT DISH
“Bayag” in Tagalog means TESTICLES
“Bayag” in Ilocano means TOOK A LONG TIME TO ARRIVE
Other examples would be words and symbols having different meanings in different cultures. Also, generation-gap can be a factor. Trends change over time and some have trouble keeping up with current pop cultures. However, for the online platforms, problems may arise if there is no stable internet connection, no signal, or entering a wrong e-mail address.
EVOLUTION OF THE USE OF MEDIA FROM ORAL CULTURES TO THE PRESENT
Media and communication used nowadays have changed vastly. In traditional communication, they use fire, smoke, iconography, and drums or gongs to convey information. Today, information can be disseminated easily to a mass of people through newspapers, magazines, radio broadcasts, television news, and e-mails. Blogs, Vlogs, Podcasts, and surfing on Youtube and Google are also easy ways on how to access information. Social media has also contributed immensely to the evolution of media and communication - Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Tumblr are just some of it. Hence, technology has successfully given birth to these magnificent innovations.
COMMUNICATION AND MEDIA 50 YEARS FROM NOW
50 years from now, communication and the media will be more advanced and technologic. From video calling, we might have hologram calls and videos in which we can see the person who we are talking to a three-dimensional image produced by laser from our gadgets.
Tumblr media
Telepathy, a way of communicating thoughts directly from one person to another, might also be possible with the help of emerging technologies.
Tumblr media
Robots might be used for media coverage like flying drones instead of sending a group of men to cover a disaster or event. Through Artificial Intelligence (AI), this is possible.

THINK!
With the privilege of technology offered to us by our generation, we should be mindful of the extent of immersing ourselves into it. We should not forget to live in the real world – to communicate the old-fashioned way. One-click can change your whole life, either positively of miserably. Personal space must always be kept. Misuse often leads to disappointing things. With that, we must be responsible for our actions, both virtually and personally. Communication is a very powerful tool. We must use it accordingly.
“I went to the woods because I wanted to live deliberately. I wanted to live deep and suck out all the marrow of life... to put to rout all that was not life; and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived” – Dead Poets Society (1989)

The Communication Process
Everything that are working on have their own process including communication. The process of communication works like this "Start -> Sender -> Transmission -> Receiver -> Pause -> Feedback/No Feedback -> Repeat/Stop"
The process starts with the sender. The sender is the person who have the idea and sends out the message to the receiver. While sending the message to the receiver, the message will go through transmission. Transmission can be oral, visual or written. It is also a process of sending the message to the receiver. When the message is send the person who receive the message is called the receiver. The receiver is the person who understand the message. When the receiver understands the message, there will be or maybe be no feedback. Feedback is like a reaction or reply and the communication process will keep revolving until the conversation stops. For example, Max likes Lilly and he wants to ask her out. So he ask her out in an oral way and Lilly is cool of going with him, so she tell him that where to meet and everything. And that's the example of communication process.
