charles leclerc x black arabian mare!reader
w.c.: 1.7k
warnings: angst with happy ending + one curse word
summary: charles' life throughout the years

a/n: major shoutout to the anon who came up with the prompt that inspired this! also, i would also like to point out that interactions with the reader is more of a super minor plot point, and while reader does appear in this fic, it mostly focuses on charles. one more thing, this will be different than my usual more light-hearted fics. i've decided to try a different writing still for this one :)
it started when charles was 3, when his papa drove him to a quaint town in the southeast of france. brignoles, he remembers.
charles recalls watching with wonder as his papa unloaded the machinery from the back of the car. this is the chassis, hervé had said, and these are the axles, and the wheel bearings, and the engine, and the cooling system, and the tyres and the steering wheel. the terms were all a jumble in his brain, but he understood it all boiled down to one thing: it was a red go kart, with a big number 35 etched on the front.
his papa had shoved him into a race suit and pushed him onto the track, and that was it. that's when he fell in love with the sport. the turns, the straights, the speed, the thrill. charles remembers wailing to stay on the kart when the sun had set, while his papa's friend, phillipe, and his son watched amusedly. all of the other children had gone home, and only charles was left, little gloved hands clutching tightly onto the steering wheel. when hervé couldn't calm him down, jules had knelt on the dusty ground and looked into charles' watery eyes. smiling, he had said to him, charlie, i can see your passion in racing. i love it too. but, you'll have tomorrow and forever to race. we'll come back another day, okay?
and that's what he did. he came back the next day, and gave himself to the sport of racing. one day, he decided, he would bring pride to his country and to his name through racing. entering into every karting competition there was in france, charles accelerated through the french paca championships in 2005, 2006, and 2008 while hervé watched on. he became the french cadet champion in 2009 and won the junior monaco kart cup in 2010.
charles was 14 when he raced in the cik-fia kf3 world cup, where he also met another little boy whose heart also beat for racing. he had short dark blonde hair, pouty lips, and and a lisp that was ever-so-prominent in the rare occasion that he talked. when the boy's strict father wasn't looking, he had flashed a smile and wave, but was only met the by the boyâs sullen silence. fine, he had thought, and that race, he purposefully pushed that boy, max, off the track. when a reporter came up and asked him about the accident, he had brushed it off as an 'inchident' and sprinted to his proud father who congratulated him on the win.
he remembers his father going to buy him a chocolate ice cream cone while he sat in his race suit on the kerb facing the track. curiously, a black pony had galloped by, hair whipping in the wind. it always seemed to appear at his kart races. nevertheless, it reminded him of the horse on the red and yellow ferarri logo, which he hoped would adorn his racing car in the future. thinking about it, he corrected himself. will adorn his racing car.
at 20 years old, charles had shot up the ranks to f2, under prema. another race, another win, another step closer to his end goal- to make jules and his papa proud. in his home race, monaco 2017, he felt unstoppable. lap after lap, he had set up purple sectors. charles remembers that black horse, galloping in the fields next to his simple karting races. this must be what it felt like, the adrenaline pushing to go harder, faster. however, before the finish line, a safety car and tyre problem slashed his dreams of winning at his home in f2.
bad news followed soon after, with the passing of hervĂ©. it was a devastating blow, considering julesâ passing in suzuka a few years before. upon hearing the news, charles had shut himself off from the world and went to the track his papa had first taken him to, and where he had met jules. it wasn't until he took off from the start had reality hit him. neither of them would not be there when he stepped out of his car. they would not be there to congratulate him on setting a new record, nor would they be there to console him after a particularly bad crash. the people that helped kickstart his love for racing would never come to one of his races ever again. charles sped up, legs crammed in the small kart, lap after lap, track blurry in his vision because of his tears. the sky, as if magnifying his emotions, had thundered and clouded over the usually sunny skies. when his arms ached and feet hurt, he had sat there at the finish line, like he did 17 years ago and gripped onto the steering wheel like a lifeline.
on the way back to his car, he had saw the black mare from his karting days, dark coat rippling. she had blinked at him with onyx eyes, whinnying. charles had reached out his hand, and suddenly, in its place was a girl, around his age. he felt a sense of familiarity with her- she had basically grew up with him from a distance, urging him on at every race. he hadn't turned away when she had dried his tears and comforted him, whispering into his ears how he would carry on the legacy.
legacy? he had asked her, watercolor eyes filled with tears. enzoâs, she had responded with a bitter-sweet smile. enzo ferrariâs. i just know you will continue my grandfatherâs legacy through your blood- i've been watching you for all these years. he used to always speak of a boy like you with a passion for racing. il predestinato, he called him.
but in 2018, at the age of 21, he not signed to ferrari. no, kimi rÀikkönen and sebastian vettel took those spots. instead, he was signed to sauber. a formula one team nonetheless, he tried his best in every race. he tried to remember the feeling back when he was 3, driving down the track straight in his little red go-kart. he had felt so fast, so powerful- like a horse running in an open field. if he went fast enough, maybe he would run right through everyone in front of him and reach the finish line. on the morning of his home grand prix, he remembered climbing into the cockpit and telling himself that this was it. this was the race that would make papa and jules proud. this was the race that would make ferrari realize their mistake of not signing him. this was the race that would prove to monaco that he loved them, and maybe then they would love him back.
but it wasn't enough. with a few laps to go in the monaco grand prix, charles suffered a brake failure, which spun out into another driver and caused both to go into early retirement. he could only watch in tears as he saw daniel ricciardo clench first place and take his iconic dive into the red bull pool. that should be me, he had thought, angry tears stinging his eyes.
that night, he cried himself to sleep, muttering his apologies to jules, his papa, and monaco for failing them.
the race in his home country followed several other unsuccessful ones; a loose wheel in silverstone, suspension damage at the hungaroring, and a multi-car pileup in spa. it seemed things never went his way. one step forward, two steps back, like they say. he would often fall into the arms of the girl that had followed him all this way, and she would let him sob into her shoulder while she whispered about the good things that would come soon. just you wait charles, she had said. you will get your chance.
2022 was the year that he felt like he could win it. like the girl (now his girlfriend) had said, his time would come soon enough. ferrari had signed him three years ago, at 22, and now at 24, he shared the team with the spanish driver carlos sainz. this time would be it, he had excitedly promised his girlfriend. she had just smiled and kissed him on the cheek.
at his team's home race in imola, at the autodromo enzo e dino ferrari, he had heard the crowd chant his name. charlie, lord perceval, prince of monaco- those nicknames never stuck out as much as il predestinato, the predestined. he would win this, he had pledged, to prove to enzo and his granddaughter that he was the predestined. alas, the little boy that he pushed off the track when he was 14 won the race, and he came 6th behind valterri bottas.
he repeated to himself the same promises before the 2022 monaco grand prix, but the result was the same as before, except his own teammate was the one on the podium, albeit third place. once again, he watched as checo perez did a backflip into the redbull pool, mexican flag wrapped around his sweaty body. good for him, he had thought bitterly. bringing pride to his country. how about me?
as the only driver in ferrari history to have a five-year contract, charles had made history at the start of the season in 2024 at age 26. the year previous had been a disaster, with redbull winning nearly all the races on the calendar. maybe this year will be different, charles had said to himself, hugging his girlfriend goodbye in the garage. she had tapped the ferrari logo on his race suit, and told him to remember who he was racing for.
before he climbed into his car, charles had recalled what his papa had told him the first time he had climbed into a vehicle. it was made up of the axles, the wheel bearings, the engine, the cooling system, the tyres, and the steering wheel. it all boiled down to a big, high tech kart, marked with the number 16. all he had to do was race it the way he did back in birgnoles, under the watchful eyes of his papa and jules. they were probably watching now, from above him.
he felt strangely optimistic as he pulled into the first spot on the grid. maybe this time, this year, he wouldn't fuck it up. charles watched as the the overhead set of starting lights lit up two by two. when they went out, he slammed his foot on the throttle.
now, on the podium overlooking monaco, charles shed tears of joy. he had done it. if only jules and papa were there to see me now, he thought, clutching the 1st place trophy. the crowd below roared with praise for monaco's il predestinato, and the giant flags bearing the prancing horse of enzo ferrari waved in the confetti-filled air. he thought he could see a familiar black mare in the distance, near the water, pawing at the ground, mane fluttering. monaco finally loved him, he had proved that enzo was right, and won the trophy for jules and his papa. as he brought his lips to the champagne-drenched trophy, he only had one thought in his head. merci beaucoup, jules, papa, monaco, enzo, ferrari, and my beloved girlfriend. i will love you all, tomorrow and forever.

FORD MUSTANG BOSS 302
BOSS-A-NOVA!
They called it The Boss and for two short years it ruled the muscle car scene in the US, establishing itself as one of the greatest road and race cars of the era. Now, itâs one of the most collectible.
In 1960s US street lingo, if something was âbossâ it was cool, tough, the best. And the 1969 Boss 302 Mustang wore its badge with pride. It launched just four and a half years after the first Mustang was revealed to critical acclaim and record sales. Yearly updates to keep Mustang fresh in the face of tough new challengers from General Motors and Chrysler (particularly the Camaro) resulted in the once lean and pretty âStang muscling up, both in body shape and under-bonnet brawn, and the 1969-70 Boss models were the zenith of Mustang styling.
Thereafter, Mustangs became increasingly bloated and anaemic as the 1970s fuel crisis and stricter pollution laws cut horsepower and stylists lost their way; the rippling flanks and thrusting nose of the late 60s/early 70s cars gave way to boxy, bland designs. That early look would not be recaptured until 2005, when new Mustangs were given retro styling.
The Boss 302 was launched at the same time as its big-block brother, the Boss 429. Both were positioned as competition specials; Ford wanted to homologate its 302-cuber for Trans-Am and the 429ci monster for NASCAR. In fact, Ford went wild with engines between 1969-70, offering nine V8s â the âeconomyâ 302, 351 Windsor, 351 Cleveland, 390, 428 Cobra Jet, 428 Super Cobra Jet, 429 âwedgeâ, Boss 302 and Boss 429.
For the Boss 302, Fordâs high-compression 302ci small-block V8 was beefed up with four-bolt main bearing caps and redesigned âClevelandâ cylinder heads with bigger inlet and exhaust valves, and ports that allowed the engine to breathe more efficiently.
These âsemi-hemiâ heads were based on the Ford 427ci racing engineâs combustion chambers, and a balanced forged steel crankshaft and forged steel conrods allowed the engine to handle high rpms for sustained periods. A single 780cfm four-barrel Holley carburettor sat atop a high-rise aluminium inlet manifold, while a dual-point distributor, high-pressure oil pump, windage tray and screw-in welch plugs were further indications of its competition intent.
A rev limiter was fitted, progressively cutting spark from 5800rpm to 6150, but it was easily bypassed and the Boss 302 could reportedly keep making power up to 8000rpm with minor mods. In the muscle car marketing war, Ford claimed a peak horsepower figure of 290bhp at 5800rpm (the same as the Camaro Z/28), but that was extremely conservative.
Two four-speed manual Top Loader transmissions were available: a wide-ratio âbox with Hurst shifter more suited to street and strip use, and a close-ratio unit for racing. Adding to the race or road options list were four diffs: the stock 3.5:1 nine-inch, Traction-Lok 3.5:1 and 3.91:1 and the No-Spin 4.30:1 built by Detroit Automotive. Axles and diff centres were also strengthened to take the loads.
Suspension was also race-inspired with heavy-duty springs, shocks and sway bar up front, and Hotchkiss-style rear suspension with heavy-duty leaf springs, sway bar and staggered shock absorbers. The left-hand shock absorber was bolted behind the axle and the right in front, to reduce axle tramp under acceleration. Amazingly for such a high-performance car, braking was still only discs and drums with power assistance.
Ironically, the Boss 302âs sexy shape was styled by former General Motors designer Larry Shinoda, who is often credited with coming up with the Boss moniker. When asked what he was working on, he replied, "The bossâs car", a reference to new Ford president âBunkieâ Knudson, who was also ex-GM and had recruited Shinoda to Ford.
While the wheelbase remained unchanged at 2740mm, the â69 Mustang was 96.5mm longer overall to accommodate all the V8s offered, although the big-blocks still had to be shoe-horned under the bonnet. Shinodaâs â69 Boss 302 was also one of the first production cars to offer an optional front air dam and adjustable rear wing, and his use of high-contrast black panels, rear window SportsSlats, and go-faster stripes made the Boss a real attention-grabber. The â69 was also the only quad-headlight Mustang, a feature that was dropped for 1970 models.
In 1970, American Hot Rod magazine dubbed the 1970 Boss 302 as "definitely the best handling car Ford has ever built", while the conservative Consumer Guide called it "uncomfortable at any speed over anything but the smoothest surface". Unique Cars resident Mustang maniac, âUncleâ Phil Walker, never read the Consumer Guide review, but even if he had it wouldnât have stopped him buying the immaculate 1970 Grabber Orange Boss 302 you see here.
Phil already has his beloved 1966 Shelby GT350H, but the Boss 302 really got his Mustang juices percolating. And he wasnât alone, because the first Boss he saw, some 43 years ago, is still one of Australiaâs most iconic race cars: Allan Moffatâs Trans-Am racer. Phil remembers it clearly.
"I saw Moff race it Calder and I was inspired to own one," Phil recalls. "It was the most aggressive-looking car; its stance was something you had to see to believe. It looked like it was doing a million miles per hour when it was parked.
"My Boss was originally a one-owner car and I bought it from a friend of mine in California, Dave, who I also bought my Shelby GT350H from 19 years ago. Dave found it in a barn with a blown engine, but in otherwise pretty good condition.
"The lady who owned it from new didnât realise it had a high-compression engine and had run it on standard fuel. When it blew up she just parked it.
"Dave did a nut-and-bolt restoration over two years, then put it up on his hoist. He didnât want to sell it, but I got my way in the end â unfortunately he had the last say on the price (laughs). I didnât even bother to test drive it; I knew it was a good car. It had 21 (new) miles on the odo when I picked it up and only 54,000 miles in total."
Since then, Phil has only put a couple of hundred miles on the car, but thatâs enough for him to have bonded with it.
"Iâve only had the Boss since January and itâs growing on me. Itâs different to the Shelby. Itâs bigger and very low.
"The engine is incredible. Dave is one of the best engine builders in California and when he rebuilt the 302 he changed the cam spec. US camshaft technology was okay in the 60s and 70s, but if you had a big-cam muscle car they wouldnât idle and they were terrible for driving in cities.
"A proper Boss engine can rev to 8500rpm all day and for a V8 thatâs pretty serious. But theyâre not renowned for low-down torque; it starts coming on from 3500rpm. My car still has a solid-lifter cam, but it pulls like a train from 1200rpm in top gear and I can drive it around at 1500rpm in top all day.
"Itâs got the four-speed close-ratio Top Loader with the long first gear and with a 3.7:1 rear end it does about 55-60mph (89-97km/h) in first gear. It bloody goes!"
Phil is a fussy bugger and his cars have to look just right, so Russell Stuckey from Stuckey Tyres has ordered him a set of genuine 15 x 8 Minilites from England to replace the standard Magnum 500s.
"I want it to look like the Parnelli Jones race car, and to get the stance I want itâs going to have 275/60s on the rear and 255/60s on the front. At the moment itâs a pretty car that is tough, but I want a tough car that looks tough. And thatâs all Iâm going to do to it."
After his first real fang in the Boss, Phil felt that his Shelby would be half a lap in front at the end of a 10-lap sprint at Sandown, but now thinks the Boss would be quicker. We might have to put both to the acid test one day. What do you mean "no way", Phil?
It was a nervous Phil who turned up at a Melbourne storage facility in January to pick up his new Boss 302. So nervous, in fact, that he took along Unique Cars art director Ange and a sturdy tow rope â just in case.
The storage people were even more apprehensive â they had been warned about just how anal he is with his cars, as he explains: "The lady there said, âYou must be pretty fanatical because weâve been given strict instructions that no one is to touch the car except youâ." Fortunately, the car arrived in pristine condition.
"I was pretty excited, Iâd been waiting for seven weeks," Phil laughs. "I took the car cover off it, fired it up, and it drove home like a brand new car. It was as good as I thought it would be. I spent the next three hours washing it."
Sounds like our Phil.
PARNELLI AND ME
Three years ago, my mate Dave and I were invited to a Trans-Am dinner at Portland International Raceway where Dave was racing his 1970 Trans-Am Boss 302 and I was crewing for him.
When we were driving there we noticed this black Mercedes following us. When we stopped it did too and this bloke got out and said, "I noticed you guys back at the hotel. Youâre going to the Trans-Am dinner arenât you? Iâm lost." It was Parnelli Jones!
I jumped in with him and when we got there I âinvitedâ myself onto Parnelliâs table, which also included Pete Brock â the guy who designed the Shelby Daytona Coupe. There was I, Mr Nobody, with all these US racing heavies, but Parnelli was a real gentleman, not up himself in any way.
The next day they had free lap time at Portland and, when I saw Parnelli there with Fordâs new âParnelli Jonesâ Boss 302 tribute Mustang, I asked if there was any chance of a ride and he said jump in. We did 10 laps and the guy hadnât lost any of his ability; my eyes were getting bigger and bigger coming into the corners.
It was a great experience that Iâll never forget. â PW
IT's MINE...
Moffâs Mustang is probably the most iconic Australian racecar and after seeing it I was inspired to own a Boss Mustang. Then, about 25 years ago, I went to Pebble Beach in Monterey for the first time and saw a 1970 Grabber Orange Boss 302, which was the colour Parnelli Jones raced in Trans-Am. That day I knew I had to own a Boss. It was the car Iâd always wanted after my Shelby, which was my lifelong dream car.
My Boss 302 is fully optioned, including the Shaker, extra side mirror, tacho and rear louvres, and itâs got a lot of wow factor. When you drive down the freeway, you get the thumbs-up from all sorts of different people. I think itâs the colour.
Itâs closer to show standard than my Shelby. Itâs got the paint marks on the tailshaft and all the little concours details, but Iâm never going to show it; Iâm not into that.
The 1969/70 body shape is still the best. Ford got it right then, but lost the plot after that and itâs reflected in their collectibility today. â PW

From top:-
1966 Ford Fairlane 427 R-Code, a rare and powerful muscle car. Unique Features: Solid lifter camshafts, forged crankshaft, medium-riser aluminum intake manifold. Designed for drag racing and was known for its speed and performance. Only 57 (fifty seven) were made and all were originally Wimbledon White with a black interior. These spectral anomalies were built with minimal frills to maximize power. The R-code Fairlane was a street-legal drag racer. Mechanical details âŹïž
2nd from top:-
1967 Shelby GT500 Super Snake. It was originally a Shelby GT500 Mustang modified with a 427 cubic inch racing engine, and was intended to test Goodyear's Thunderbolt tires. It was capable of reaching speeds of around 170 mph.
427 cubic inch (7.0-liter) V8 engine derived from the Ford GT40 racing program. 550 hp (though some sources suggest over 600 hp) with 550 lb-ft. 0-60 mph: Approximately 4.1 seconds and top speed of 170 mph (274 kph). Kelsey-Hayes front disc brakes. Goodyear Thunderbolt tires.
3rd from top:- 1969 Ford Torino 428 Cobra Jet featuring a powerful 428 cu in (7.0 L) V8 engine rated at 370 hp, but some sources suggest it was also closer to 400 hp with optional Ram Air induction. Complete with competition suspension, oil cooler, staggered rear shocks, power front disc brakes, and heavy-duty springs. 0 - 60 mph in 7.7 seconds and quarter-mile in 15.8 seconds at 90 mph.
1968 Ford Torino GT 428 FE V8 Specs :- https://www.hotcars.com/highest-power-ford-torin-engine/#:~:text=Instead%2C%20Ford%20added%20a%20less,GT%20428%20FE%20V8%20Specs
4th from top:- 1969 Ford Mustang Boss 429. Officially rated at 375 hp, but likely closer to 475 hp or more and 450 lb-ft. of torque out of the 429 cu in (7.0 L) V8 with semi-hemispherical heads which Ford called "crescent". The Boss 429 was designed for NASCAR homologation and engine designed with Nascar Heavier Crank Shaft & Connecting Rods. The Mustang's body however was not wide enough to encompass the massive Boss 429 engine and as a result, Ford hired Kar Kraft out of Brighton, MI to modify existing 428 Cobra Jet and Super Cobra Jet Mach 1 Mustangs to properly fit the new Boss 429 engine.
It features a unique hood scoop, a chin spoiler, and optional rear spoiler and louvers. The interior included a top loader Hurst T-handle shifter. Only 859 units made in 1969 and auction prices have reached $1/2 a mil.

5th and last:- 1970 Ford Torino Super Cobra with a 429 Super Cobra Jet engine. Difference from 1969 Ford Torino 428 Cobra Jet (3rd from top) engine lies in the engine itself and included features; 4-bolt main block & stronger block for better durability, forged pistons & stronger rods for enhanced performance & longevity, a larger, more aggressive mechanical camshaft for improved breathing & power, 780 CFM Carb: A larger 780 cfm Holley carburetor, header-style exhaust manifolds, an external oil cooler for better cooling & reliability & a Ram Air system for increased airflow and power & all these aided output in excess horsepower 425 (unofficially). To improve oomph, Super Cobra Jet often came with the optional Drag Pack, which included a stronger rear axle with higher gear ratios (like 3.91 or 4.30) and only 241 built with these specs.

The Volvo 850 was launched in 1992 as a front-wheel-drive family car with a transversely mounted 2.0 to 2.5-liter inline-five engine. It featured a sophisticated multi-link rear suspension and a focus on safety and comfort. But beneath its practical image, the 850 had solid engineering â enough for Volvo to take it racing.
In 1994, Volvo entered the British Touring Car Championship with the 850 Estate â the first time a wagon had competed at this level. Developed in collaboration with Tom Walkinshaw Racing, or TWR, the BTCC-spec 850 was fully race-prepped.
It ran a naturally aspirated 2.0-liter inline-five engine producing around 280 horsepower at over 8,000 RPM, mated to a six-speed sequential gearbox. It featured front-wheel drive, a limited-slip differential, race-tuned suspension, and AP Racing brakes. The body was stripped and reinforced, weighing in at roughly 975 kilograms.
Aerodynamically, the estate shape wasnât ideal. Its tall rear created more drag compared to the sedan. But the longer roofline added stability, and the carâs unique profile helped grab media attention.
The car was driven by Rickard Rydell, a Swedish touring car specialist, and Jan Lammers, a former Formula 1 and endurance driver. Despite its unconventional form, the 850 Estate showed competitive pace.
While it didnât win races, it scored consistent mid-field results â including a best finish of fifth place at Snetterton. It laid the groundwork for future success. In 1995, Volvo switched to the 850 saloon, retaining the same mechanical setup but with better aerodynamics. That year, Rydell won two races and finished third overall in the championship standings.
The estate only ran for one season, but it left a lasting impression.

1971 AMC Javelin capable track car & turns heads as stunning show car
In The Unfair Advantage, Mark Donohue wrote, âI thought the 1971 Javelins were about the most attractive Trans Am sedans on the street.â He also said the Penske Javelins were half race car and half show car. This car was built with that same approach in mind. It is a seriously capable track car on the track and turns heads as a most stunning show car. This car is as close a replica as reasonably possible of the car that won the Trans Am Series Championship in 1971. There are many âtributeâ TA Javelins, but none built to this level of replication. The original car was built by Penske Racing and Mark Donohue. I am selling the car due to failing eyesight and wishing it to pass hands to a new owner that can appreciate and use the car for what it is, a faithful replica of a Trans Am Champion.
The car was built to replicate not only the look but also the mechanicals and structure of the original car using period technology and parts. It is not street legal in current form. The car is stunning to look at and the sound of the exhaust is true Trans Am music. Below are some of the specifications and details about the car. Driven as a âTrack Dayïżœïżœïżœ car, never raced competitively.

veni, vidi, rogavi.
6,21,42,47.
et ego respondebo.
6. why did you do that?
my time management is notoriously bad, i wouldn't expect less of me.
21. something youâve kept since childhood?
Boy howdy do I have an item for show and tell.
THIS:

is what's left of the oldest hot wheel I own, a Midnight Otto Treasure Hunt from 2003. Complete with bent axles, stained tires, and patina from a botched permanent-marker-paintjob removal.
It is not only Rareâą but also quite literally older than me. I've had it ever since I remember having hot wheels, and no one from the family knows who could've given it to me. Although, having seen the old hot wheels my second cousins used to play with, I think it was a hand-me-down from them.
I do plan to restore it. As I have for the past 2 years or so. I never quite got around to it.
42. an app you frequently use besides this godforsaken site?
Discord. I don't frequent many servers, I made it to admin at a GTA online car meet server and I'm active in a couple Assoluto Racing servers. But that's about it.
47. what was the last message you sent?
Strictly speaking, a picture for a photo competition at the aforementioned GTA online server.

HWLR Alterverse AU: Spoiler Warning
"Get excited everyone, the second Camp Champ Grand Prix race is coming up faster than a turbo racer at top speed! For this race, we're kicking things into a whole new gear, because...you'll be using boosters!" "So cool!...what are those?" đ"Boosters are power-ups that Hot Wheels racers use to get special skills during a race."đ "Whoa, that's super cool! Can't wait to try them!"
"Boosters are great when used correctly, but they can be very hard to control. That's why, for this lesson, I've brought in a very special guest instructor." Very special indeed, given the smoke, lights, and music that preceded their entrance. đ"It's Striker Spoiler! He's the current pro racing champ!"đ đ©¶"Plus, he's got his own line of signature Striker Spoiler spray cheese!"𩶠"And he's...my dad." đ§"There's my Axle to the Maxle!"đ§ Striker took a look at the leaderboard. đ§"Looks like you've got some competition."đ§ "Yeah, so what? I'm still going to win, and I'll do it my way! Let's do this!" "Challenge Accepted!" Off they went to select their cars. đ§"Why is he still saying that? I know what he really means, and by the end of the day, I'll get him to say it for sure!"đ§
"I want a car that's as fired up for the booster training as I am. I choose: the Dragon Blaster!" "I choose: the Supreme Speedza!" đ"I choose: the Power Surge!"đ đ©¶"I choose: the Buns of Steel!"𩶠"I choose: the Aristo Rat!" "This ride will help me beast the boosters and show what power racing's all about! I choose: the Skull Crusher!" Cars selected, all lined up, and off they go!
During the training, Striker videocalled the racers to explain how each booster works, as well as show what each one looks like. đ§"Speed boosters, you can't go slow. When you see this booster, hit that gas and go!"đ§ Axle was first up. "Hey dad, watch this!" He hit the booster perfectly, showing both speed and power with how his car thundered down the track, which wasn't very far with how heavy it was.đ§"That was...alright."đ§ The others were soon to follow, and of them, Cruise went farther than the rest. đ§"Way to go, Cruise, you nailed it!"đ§
Time for the second booster. đ§"The oil slick booster can send your competition skidding. But whatever you do, do not stop on it."đ§ Axle went first on this one too, and he handled it flawlessly- but since he was far enough ahead, no one got caught in the oil slick he set up. đ§"Well, it looked nice enough."đ§ "My turn!" Cruise also managed the booster correctly, and she actually slipped some of the other racers up. đ§"Now that's how you do it!"đ§
And now, the third and final booster. đ§"These big air boosters will send you flying, so always keep two hands on the wheel.đ§ "Okay Axle, last booster, last chance to show what you can do." Once again, perfect booster usage, but once again, the weight of the car meant it didn't go as far. đ§"That was...something, I guess."đ§ The other racers took their turns. "Here I come with extra speed!" Once again, she went further than the rest, and once again, she got praised by Striker for doing so.
After that, the campers returned to the Ultimate Garage to hear their results. đ§"Amazing work! You're all really getting the hang of this, especially you, Cruiser Bruiser. I can see why you're top of the leaderboard!"đ§ After hearing that, Axle walked off, the other campers following to see if he's alright.
đ§"I don't get it. I was sure praising someone else would push him enough to say what's really on his mind."đ§ Striker looked at the spray cheese he was carrying, then at the Skull Crusher, and got an idea. đ§"Maybe cheesing his ride will be enough- can't do much else if his ride's out of service."đ§ Right as he did that, the racers all came over. "And you're sure this'll work?" "Trust me- going back out on the track in each other's cars will make him see your skills for sure!" She got into the car she was going to use first. đ§"Wait, no, stop!"đ§ But it was too late- she was already on her way. "Whoa!"
The other racers watched as things started to go wrong. đ"Hey, check this out- the car is leaking some kind of orange goo."đ "It's spraying spray cheese...mmm, cheddar!" "If that stuff's in the engine, no wonder Cruise lost control!" It was at this point that Striker knew just how bad he had messed up.
"This is out of control!" đ§"I have to stop this!"đ§ "Let us help too." đ§"Thanks for the offer, but this is something I need to do myself."đ§ The campers figured that made sense- this isn't something they had handled before, and rushing in without knowing what to do could just make things worse. So, off he went to catch that out of control Skull Crusher in the best car for the job- another Skull Crusher! đ§"Don't worry, I'm here to help!"đ§ "Striker, it's Dash. There are some boosters already on the tracks for the race later. Use 'em." đ§"Got it! Now, first, the speed booster."đ§ With that, he was able to catch up, at least until the other car went up a big ramp. đ§"Now, the big air booster."đ§ This once again got him caught up, until the other car turned onto another lane going the other way. đ§"I have to get over there- and I know how. Power Bash, activate! Go Hot Wheels!"đ§ With a powerful charge that took him through a billboard(that was advertising his own product, ironically enough), he got caught up for good this time. đ§"Oil slick booster, coming up!"đ§ Using that got the wild car in a real spin. "Whoa, I'm sliding!" With all that spinning, the last of the spray cheese was finally out of the engine, allowing for a safe stop(though that part was a close call- one car almost hit the other) and a return to the garage.
Back at said garage, the others went to see them. "Cruise, are you alright? I don't know what happened there!" "Yeah, I'm fine, thanks to Striker!" Everyone started to cheer, but...đ§"No, wait, stop cheering- I'm the one that put the spray cheese in the engine."đ§ "What?! Were you trying to sabotage me?! I know that I'm doing things differently, but it's still racing... " đ§"And who says we have to do that?!"đ§ Well, that was unexpected. "Dad...you never wanted to be a racer, did you?" đ§"Well...no, I didn't. I'd much rather work with cheese- the real stuff, not this on the go spray version. But I never said anything before, and I've regretted it ever since. I thought that you going against our family's style of racing meant that deep down, you didn't want it either. I just wanted you to say what I couldn't. Guess I was wrong."đ§ "Yeah, you were- this really is my dream. And one day, I'll make it happen...and you'll make yours happen too. That much, I can be sure of." They hugged it out, and then, there was someone else Striker needed to talk to. đ§"Sorry I sent you on that wild ride, Cruiser Bruiser."đ§ "Don't worry about it. We're all good, Stilton Spoiler!" Stilton Spoiler...he liked the sound of that. "Well, glad that's cleared up, but what happened was still wrong, and dangerous. Sabotaging another racer's ride is against the rules!" đ§"I know, and I shouldn't have even considered it. Would giving Cruise an extra Flame Badge make up for it?"đ§ Everyone agreed it would, and with that, she truly was on the top of the leaderboard.
đ*squeaking sounds*đ "Oh, right! Campers, that sound means the second Camp Champ Grand Prix race is about to start!" "Challenge Accepted!"
