Despite his small size, he constantly tries to shock Cellbit despite being too small to make his own electric shock. Why? Because Cellbit is Big and poor Joltik is scared of big things that aren’t Roier

Lumi Plays: Pokémon White 2 Bug Monotype Run- Part 18

It's been a little bit! But the Bug buddies and I are back, and well... We've learned some things.

First though, it's time to take care of the immediate Team Plasma threat!

These fools will be pushovers, I'm sure!

And pushovers they were, with the grunts causing no problems for Teabag and co. It wasn't long before I was facing up against Zinzolin once again!

He and his Ice Types made for the perfect opportunity for a Candy Shell Smash sweep! We pulled it off flawlessly, of course.

After driving him off, Drayden comes over to check the DNA Splicers are safe- but uh oh, here comes the Shadow Triad to steal them! Teabag sweeps the ninja, but they escape with the Splicers anyway.

With the immediate threat over, we get a call from Boot and Cheren, and it seems the next step is to head to Humilau City, both for the final badge and to also catch up with Team Plasma.

There are a couple of ways to get to Humilau, but I opt for the Marine Tube, getting an excellent view of a passing Wailord as I do! (Not pictured here, he was too fast for me.)

Still, after a short trip through the Tube, we're out the other side at our final city before the Pokémon League. We have a bit to go before then though.

I find the gym leader, Marlon, taking a dip in the water, but he heads to the gym. I want to explore the rest of the city before battling though. Especially because this city is home to the final move tutor before the Pokémon League!

This guy takes Yellow Shards, and he teaches some good moves! The one I'm interested in though, is Giga Drain. A few of the team can learn it, but Lemondrop already has Energy Ball, and most everyone else is more physical than special. This is a good move for Lava Cookie though! First I have to grind up a couple more shards though...

It doesn't take too long, thankfully, and now Lava Cake has a move that covers its weaknesses well, and will also be useful in the gym! Speaking of which, it's gym time now!

With the music and colours in here, I find this gym one of the most relaxing ones to be in out of the whole series. But we're not here to rest! Teabag and Lemondrop get to work against the Water Types, with Lava Cake putting in good work too, weakening the Water moves with Sunny Day and hitting hard with Giga Drain!

Finally, we make it to Marlon. And I have a plan too! What could possibly go wrong?

Um. Well.

So my strategy involved getting Teabag, our starter, a chance to shine! I was going to lead with Lava Cake and set up the sun, then after Marlon's lead Carracosta knocked Lava Cake out, I'd switch in Lemondrop for a quick KO with a couple of Thunders (after breaking the Sturdy), then Volt Switch to Teabag, who could Swords Dance and sweep the last two Pokémon while the sun was still up (even with the sun gone, Teabag could take a couple of hits anyway).

This, dear readers, did not go as planned.

Turn 1 goes perfect. Lava Cake gets the sun up and is knocked out by Carracosta. In comes Lemondrop with the Thunder and- wait, what? It missed?

So it turns out, Compoundeyes and Wide Lens don't stack in quite the way I thought they did. They aren't multiplicative, the stat bonuses are separately added. Compoundeyes gives Thunder's 70% accuracy a 30% boost- so an additional 21% accuracy for 91%. Wide Lens is the same but a 10% boost- an additional 7%. These are added together for a total of... 98%.

98% is excellent accuracy, especially for a move as strong as Thunder! But that 2% struck, and Lemondrop missed against Carracosta. Then Carracosta struck back with Smack Down and KOed. I know that was a possibility, but if I could knock it down to 1 HP, I could get Teabag to clean up! Not the case here though, and this was looking unfortunate.

I switch in Teabag, getting the knockout after a couple of turns, but not without some bruising and the sun fading. Out comes Wailord, and Teabag gets some damage in before it goes for Bounce. So, I switch out to Drumstick to take the hit, and finish off the big blimp. Things could be going better, but we only have one more Pokémon, right?

Jellicent was evil. It resisted both STAB moves from Drumstick, and so I decided the best thing to do was to chip it down and let it get the KO so I could cleanly switch to Teabag. Teabag was already weakened, but I hoped he could take a hit? Leaf Blade didn't KO, but it did good damage- Ominous Wind did KO though. Oh, and it got the all stats boost too. Great.

Out comes Gumball and I'm getting desperate, Ominous Wind gets a second boost, and Gumball can't hit hard enough to counteract it. He goes down, and soon so does Candy. We wipe for the 4th time this playthrough.

As with the previous wipe against Clay, this probably could've been avoided with healing items, but my pride wanted me to do it without! I wouldn't make the same mistake again.

I'm happy to say the second attempt went better. Enough to win at least, but no more than that, I have to say!

I disposed of the fancy strategy, and just did what I should've done before- no set up, and just damage. Lemondrop and Teabag both got KOs, and Lava Cake's sun actually did come in useful later in the battle after the previous two had gone down! Between Cursed Body and Scald burns, Jellicent was rather infuriating though. And by the end, only Drumstick was left standing when Jellicent fell (and I did have to heal once too).

...I don't ever want to see Marlon's face again honestly!

But we did it. Finally.
