Constable Downspout was a gargoyle. When it came to staring fixedly at one thing you couldn’t beat a gargoyle. The gargoyles were getting a lot of employment in the clacks industry.

Okay because I deeply love this and the watch
Cheery has leather armor from the same place as Angua. She’s also the only one who includes gloves and goggles as part of her armor. She needs new gloves all the time as she keeps burning them with various chemicals. Sybil keeps her in supply
Wee mad Arthur and Buggy Swires wear no armor, but they do like the goggles that Cheery wears. Sybil gives them some glass that broke before being installed in goggles and they make their own
Constable Visit wears his Omnian robes either under or over his armor (traditional Omnian armor of course) depending on what the situation calls for
Sally wears a matte black breastplate below her uniform (above a base layer, she’s not mad) and an extremely thin and tarnished helmet that somehow never bends or crumples. She puts a bow on it when she wants to annoy Angua
Downspout just gets erosion replacement and extra cement either molded on or carved off, usually with an extra pigeon bribe
To answer the question a bunch of people asked over the years,: "Why do you draw every Ankh-Morpork watch uniform different?"
..
I think there is no uniformness to the night watch uniforms, i mean..besides colors of the clothes...And that they also wear the insignia..
I feel like most of the official uniform helmets and other pieces of armor have sort of...disappeared over the years (their location was tactically changed). And whats left is mismatched mix that was amassed over decades of different fashions and technology. (alot of..uh.. lost and found...and confiscated)
-Vimes wears the same helmet he has been wearing for YEARS...Same with his breast plate...Keeping them appropriately delustered
-Fred Colons helmets keep on disappearing, so he has to get a "new" one every once in a while. His breastplate is the old sergeant one and he keeps it in pretty good shiny shape.
-Nobby has MANY HELMETS and many breastplates and chainmail shirts.. But has few favorites..and those he wears untill the leather snaps, the metals rust.. or grow weird green growths and ultimately break (which with him for some reason happens FAST)
-Carrot wears a breastplate he got from the watch armory, but helmet he wears traditionally dwarven.
-Most of other dwarves also wear their own helmets n armor ..
-Trolls just get whatever designs they can get made.
-Angua wears leather armor and usually doesnt wear a helmet (the other watchmen wanted to get her a boob armor, but after bringing it up to her, they very quickly dropped the idea)
-Reg goes through his armors even faster than Nobby, and has to buy his own.

inktober 2019 The Watch
Day 11 Constable Downspout
Downspout is a gargoyle recruited by Vimes as a professional watcher. Watching comes naturally to a gargoyle, and Downspout can sit and watch for days in the service of justice without any complaint (bc he was going to do it anyway.) Unfortunately gargoyles have no use in money so he gets paid in tasty pigeons.
I had a black marker nearby so I tried to do something more dramatic with this one (and disguise that dead bird) I think it’s a bit of misstep honestly. it was worth a try, but I don’t think we’ll be seeing the black marker again for a while.

Inktober 2022 - Day 1 - Gargoyle
IT BEGINS. Yes, day one of Inktober is here! As per usual, I shall burn myself out by doing too much for each prompt, but I live for the challenge. I plan to once again do a grinning worm bonus for each prompt (the self-inflicted pain)! So look out for that.
I'm also still doing inktober 52. Which has different prompts (it's 'time' this week on top of the dailies...yikes.)
Here we have constable Downspout for the discworld novels.
"Downspout never quite fitted in. It wasn't that he didn't get on with people, because he hardly ever met people, except those whose activities took them above, say, second–floor level. Constable Downspout's beat was the rooftops. Very slowly. He'd come down for the Watch's Hogswatch party and had poured gravy in his ears to show Willing, but gargoyles got very nervy indoors at ground level, and he had soon exited via the chimney and his paper squeaker had echoed out forlornly amongst the snowy rooftops all night. But gargoyles were good at watching, and good at remembering, and very, very good at being patient."
I based his design off my own snow-globe with a Gargoyle in it:

Constable Downspout
A gargoyle with huge pointy ears.  Somewhat of a lonely soul, like all gargoyles, but an incredibly good officer on a stake-out.

Duties at Tenter Street
Inspired by The Saga of Edmund Reid Episode 1 and The Urine Wheel by @scribbledbyhand 💕
After a morning of grisly but productive assisting and learning, Constable Hobbs returned to the Laboratory with a mop, the gentle clicks of his steps coming to a slow halt upon a protesting Jackson and uncompromising Reid.
“...listen, I promised her...”
“We need you more. Right here.”
“Reid, it's a husband’s...”
Reid ignored his pleas. “Constable, gather these items from the market, and go to Ms. Susan Hart. Offer to perform Captain Jackson's part for the day.” He looked at the pale, uncertain fingers with the grocery list in between. “Tell her it's an order from me.”
“Yes, Inspector.”
Hobbs slipped on the dark blue tunic, accompanied by a tiny, sharp glint of sunlight from the silver “H” on the collar. The instructions were clear, nonetheless those he had never heard before. That day, the sight of a very awkward police constable with a big basket shopping at Whitechapel’s marketplace brought amusement to more than a few. After a final check of the list, Hobbs headed to Tenter street, pressing his lips together as he rehearsed his intended dialogue. Stopping in front of the red door, he switched the basket to the other arm, took a deep breath, and gave three firm knocks.
knock   knock   knock
A vibrantly dressed girl let him in, giggling at his stutter and obvious nervousness. Hobbs kept his gaze intensely on the floor until he greeted Susan, who raised her eyebrows at the colorful delivery, as if questioning his, or maybe Reid’s, sanity. She stared at him coldly after his almost apologetic explanation, sighed, and led him to the backyard.
A few moments later, Hobbs was high up the ladder hammering at the broken downspout “torn off by your good Inspector Reid and lousily repaired by some drunken plumbers.” As he drove one last nail into the wall to hold the metal tube firmly in place, screams from the house nearly threw him off balance.
One of the constables appeared from nowhere and steadied the wobbly ladder, making sure his comrade descended safely to the ground littered with small rocks and other debris. One accidental slip up there, God knew what would happen.
“Reinforcement from Leman Street,” he told Hobbs as they put away the tools and cleared the yard.
Susan rolled her eyes. “Gentlemen,” she said. The mustached “gentleman” had just shoved his way in like a maniac. “Allow me to be grateful for your time and labor, and show you the way out.” And she did not hesitate to shut the door behind them.
Jackson had to deal with a snappy Susan that evening.
“I want no policemen in my house!”
“Come here, darlin’,” Jackson stretched out comfortably in bed. “Are the groceries fresh, the backyard fixed, though?”
Susan settled next to her husband, who wrapped his arm around her, effectively extinguishing the fire. That naive lad would perhaps make an agreeable guest, but not in that uniform, offering to be a substitute for Jackson, and almost falling off a ladder.
Jackson’s breath brushed against her ear. “I'll cook breakfast, first thing in the morning.”
“Since when did you pick up such a healthy lifestyle?”
Their voices blended into the bustling night. Across the streets and alleys, in a quiet living room, there were a flurry of dress following those light, rhythmic knocks. It was the occasion longed for the most but happened the least. She took off his coat and hung up his uniform--it needed some washing. He pulled her into a tight embrace, burying his face in her hair, savoring every moment. Next to them on the hanger, the silver “H” reflected a hushed golden tone of the cozy fireplace.

#Inktober Gargoyle. Constable Downspout of the Ankh-Morpork City Watch keeps an eye on the city under Commander Sam Vimes. Lab partner, trapped in elevator, and McDonalds trainer- Constables Reg Shoe, Visit-the-Infidel-with-Explanatory-Pamphlets, and Downspout
ooooohh boy.
Downspout as my lab partner, because I’d be able to help him get a good grade on the project despite him not being able to move/talk much.
Trapped in an elevator with Reg Shoe, because the stories he’d have to tell would easily eat up the time.
Visit as my McDonald’s trainer, because I’d love to see how he manages to work in religious tracts amid workin’ the deep-fryer.
