Safeguarding Connectivity: Addressing Vulnerabilities in 5G Infrastructure
In the realm of technological evolution, 5G has emerged as the pinnacle of innovation, promising unprecedented connectivity, lightning-fast speeds, and transformative capabilities. However, amidst the euphoria surrounding this groundbreaking technology, concerns about security loom large. As the 5G landscape continues to evolve, ensuring robust security measures is imperative to mitigate potential risks and safeguard sensitive data.
Understanding the Significance of 5G Security
Defining the Paradigm Shift
5G represents a paradigm shift in wireless communication, revolutionizing industries, and empowering IoT ecosystems. With its enhanced speed, capacity, and low latency, 5G is poised to unleash a wave of innovation across various sectors, ranging from healthcare and transportation to manufacturing and entertainment. However, the proliferation of 5G also introduces novel security challenges that demand proactive solutions.
Addressing Vulnerabilities
The unprecedented speed and connectivity offered by 5G networks amplify the attack surface, rendering traditional security measures inadequate. Cybercriminals can exploit vulnerabilities in 5G infrastructure to launch sophisticated cyberattacks, compromising network integrity and data confidentiality. From DDoS attacks to man-in-the-middle assaults, the threat landscape has evolved, necessitating robust security protocols to safeguard against potential breaches.
The Evolution of 5G Security Measures
Encryption and Authentication
Encryption lies at the heart of 5G security, ensuring that data remains confidential and integrity is maintained during transmission. Advanced cryptography algorithms such as AES and Elliptic Curve Cryptography are employed to encrypt data packets, thwarting eavesdropping attempts by malicious actors. Additionally, stringent authentication mechanisms, including digital certificates and biometric authentication, bolster access control and mitigate the risk of unauthorized access.
Network Slicing and Virtualization
Network slicing emerges as a game-changer in 5G security, enabling service providers to partition network resources into distinct virtual networks tailored to specific use cases. By implementing isolated slices with dedicated security policies, organizations can ensure segmentation and isolation of critical services, minimizing the blast radius in the event of a security breach. Furthermore, network function virtualization (NFV) enhances agility and resilience, allowing rapid deployment of security functions to counter emerging threats.
AI-Powered Threat Detection
In the era of 5G, Artificial Intelligence (AI) emerges as a potent ally in the cybersecurity arsenal, leveraging machine learning algorithms to detect and mitigate threats in real-time. By analyzing vast datasets and identifying anomalies in network traffic, AI-driven security solutions can preemptively thwart cyberattacks before they escalate, thereby fortifying 5G infrastructure against evolving threats.
Collaboration and Regulatory Compliance
Industry Collaboration
The complexity and interconnectedness of 5G ecosystems necessitate collaboration among stakeholders to establish industry-wide standards and best practices. From telecommunication providers and equipment manufacturers to government agencies and regulatory bodies, concerted efforts are required to foster a secure and resilient 5G ecosystem. Information sharing and collaborative research play a pivotal role in strengthening cyber defenses and mitigating emerging threats.
Regulatory Frameworks
Regulatory frameworks serve as a cornerstone of 5G security, providing guidelines and compliance mandates to ensure adherence to security standards and privacy regulations. Regulatory bodies such as the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) play a pivotal role in shaping the security landscape by issuing recommendations and certifications to validate compliance with security protocols.
Conclusion
As 5G continues its inexorable march towards global proliferation, security remains paramount in unlocking its transformative potential. By embracing encryption, network slicing, AI-driven threat detection, and fostering collaboration across industry stakeholders, organizations can fortify 5G infrastructure against emerging threats and embark on a journey towards a secure and resilient digital future.

"Eavesdropping on whale songs over the last six years is providing new information vital to answering questions about these giants of the ocean.
The number of whale songs detected is associated with shifting food sources, according to the California scientistsâand the number of days humpbacks have been singing has nearly doubled.
When monitoring baleen whale songs in the Pacific Ocean, researchers found year-to-year variations correlated with changes in the availability of the species they forage on.
In vast oceans, monitoring populations of large marine animals can be a âmajor challengeâ for ecologists, explained Dr. John Ryan, a biological oceanographer at the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute in California (MBARI).
Their team deployed underwater microphones called hydrophones to study and track baleen whales, which communicate over long distances through sound.
âSurprisingly, the acoustic behavior of baleen whales provides insights about which species can better adapt to changing ocean conditions,â said Dr. Ryan, a lead author of the study.
They also monitored songs from blue, fin, and humpback whales off the West Coast of the U.S. to see what the song data could reveal about the health of their ecosystem.
The findings, published in the journal PLOS One, showed âlargeâ year-to-year variations in whale song detection.
âThe amount of humpback whale song continually increased, with their songs being detected on 34% of days at the beginning of the study and rising to 76% of days after six years,â said Dr. Ryan.
âThese increases consistently tracked improved foraging conditions for humpback whales across all study yearsâlarge increases in krill abundance, followed by large increases in anchovy abundance.
âIn contrast, blue and fin whale song rose primarily during the years of increasing krill abundance.
âThis distinction of humpback whales is consistent with their ability to switch between dominant prey. An analysis of skin biopsy samples confirmed that changes had occurred in the whalesâ diets.â
He explained that other factors, including the local abundance of whales, may have contributed to patterns in song detections observed in some years, but changes in foraging conditions were the most consistent factor.
âOverall, the study indicates that seasonal and annual changes in the amount of baleen whale song detected may mirror shifts in the local food web.â
WHALES ON THE COMEBACK TRAIL: ⢠Gray Whale, Extinct for Centuries in Atlantic, Is Spotted in Cape Cod ⢠Sighting of Many Blue Whales Around Seychelles is First in Decades â âPhenomenalâ ⢠Majestic Sei Whales Reappear in Argentine Waters After Nearly a Century
âThe results suggest that an understanding of the relationship between whale song detection and food availability may help researchers to interpret future hydrophone data, both for scientific research and whale management effortsâ, which could better protect endangered species."

Older!News Anchor!Natasha x Younger!Female!Professor Reader
Summary: Natasha Romanoff, one of the most recognized faces in television, finds herself under unexpected scrutiny when a young academicâs lecture on media ethics gains traction online â setting the stage for an unlikely rivalry that blurs the line between enemies and something else entirely.
Warnings: 18+, age gap (natasha late 30s, reader 27ish), language, mentions of homophobia, mentions of sex, Me not being familiar with the inner workings of network television.
Word Count: 5.6k+
A/N: Hey everyone! Long-time reader, first-time poster here. So I guess you could see this as a little thank-you for getting me through some tough times with your amazing stories. This chapter is a bit of a practice run - if you guys like it, Iâll probably be continuing this as a mini-series. The idea has been lingering in my mind for a while. FYI English isnât my first language, so feel free to point out any mistakes!
The clock ticked toward the seven-hour mark, numbers climbing up steadily as the seconds bled into each other. The studio hummed, a cacophony of voices layered on top of one another. Producers, directors, and assistants hustling between monitors, whispering instructions and updating cues. But through it all, Natasha Romanoff the pride of the network moved like a conductor of chaos. Every step, measured. Every glance, deliberate.
She made her way to the sleek glass desk, the papers for her notes already laid out in perfect alignmentâ black letters against white background. The desk, like everything else around her, was immaculate, designed to make the person behind it the centre of attention. As she sat, Betty, a new member of the makeup crew, approached with a kit. The girl was eager, almost too eager, hands slightly shaking as she opened her compact mirror. Natashaâs eyes narrowed as she reached for the earpiece.
âDonât put too much highlighter on my face,â Natasha said, her voice clipped, without a hint of softness. âLast week, your colleague made me look like a disco ball.â Betty froze eyes wide. Natasha could feel her anxiety before the words even left her mouth. âI-Iâm sorry, Ms. Romanoff. Iâll try my best...â. âDonât try your best. Do as I say,â Natasha interjected sharply, her tone biting. âY-Yes, Ms. Romanoff,â Betty stammered. âtwo minutes,â someone called out from the back of the studio.
As Betty moved to step back, she quickly wished Natasha good luck. Natasha didnât respond, merely rolling her eyes before glancing toward the producersâ booth. She could already feel the inevitable irritation building. The earpiece clicked into place, and the familiar voice of Maria Hill, her producer, filled her ear. âFinally decided to grace us with your attention, huh?â
Natashaâs eyes flicked upward to the glass wall behind which the production room was located, her lips curling into a smirk. âMaybe you shouldnât let Sharon take a holiday whenever she wants. I know you two had a thing back at university, but those doe-eyed makeup artists turn my pretty face into a caricature. Sharon is the only one, who knows what to do with a pretty face like mine.â
Mariaâs laugh crackled through the earpiece, dry and sharp." They donât stay doe-eyed for long. Give it two weeks, and Betty will be completely head over heels in love with you, especially once you start showing off your... bedroom charm." Natashaâs smirk only deepened. âWhat can I say? I know what a woman wants.â
âYou mean intentionally creating potential workplace conflicts the moment they realize their feelings are not reciprocated. You know Agatha from HR told me, your file is by far the heaviest on her desk.â Maria replied with a slight edge to her voice. Natasha knew Maria was not a big fan of her sexual escapades at the network but once in a while the stress of the job caught up even to her. She opened her mouth to respond, but Mariaâs voice came through again, cutting the conversation short: âAll channels open. 15 seconds.â Signalling that the conversation was over and no longer private. Time to focus.
The tension in Natashaâs body shifted. Taking a moment to collect herself, every inch of her posture shifting from sharp banter to the cool, controlled persona she had perfected over the years. The camera would be on her in seconds, and there was no room for anything other than perfection. Repositioning herself in her chairâback straight, shoulders squared, the very picture of professionalism. As the last few seconds ticked away, Natashaâs eyes snapped to the teleprompter, locking into the script. It was all business now. Her world contracted into that single, glowing line of text. Her fingers twitched slightly, but otherwise, she remained still.
âWe are live in 5... 4... 3... 2... 1,â Maria counted down, the words cutting through her thoughts.
The red recording light snapped on, and everything elseâthe noise, the chatter, the chaosâceased to exist. The iconic newsroom music blaring through the speakers. The sound that had become synonymous with what Natasha had achieved. A few quiet clicks echoed in the room as cameras shifted into position. Natasha didnât blink. Her face settled into its trademark calm, eyes piercing the lens like twin weapons. Showtime.
âGood evening. Iâm Natasha Romanoff, and this is The Hour.â
Her voice, cool and steady, carried the weight of authority. As the camera zoomed in, her gaze never wavered, her presence filling every corner of the screen. âTonight: disinformation, climate crisis, and the story the numbers wonât tell you.â
The graphics behind her came alive in choreographed rhythmâimages of protests, wildfires and talking points sliced into headlines. She didnât look at them. She didnât need to.
The redhead had already memorized the arc of the story: crisis, confusion, control. Natasha told it backwards, starting from what the public feared and unravelling the mess with her usual signatureâcalm, vaguely unforgiving clarity. In her earpiece, someone was murmuring time cues. She ignored them. She always did.
âIn five minutes, youâll hear from a senior intelligence analyst. But firstâwhat we arenât talking about.â That was the trick. Tell them what they didnât know they wanted to hear. Make it feel like truth. Deliver it with a stillness so complete, it silenced doubt before it could form.
----
The lights above Natasha dimmed for a secondâan automatic adjustment to keep the focus on her. From the control room, Maria watched her like a hawk, fingers dancing over her tablet, the constant pulse of the broadcast in her veins.
"Sheâs on fire tonight," Maria murmured to Pepper the network presidentâs personal assistant, standing beside her, flipping through notes. Pepper didnât look up. She didnât need to. Natasha always delivered, always commanded the room. âShe always is.â Pepperâs voice was dry, but there was a touch of admiration beneath it. She could feel the heat even through the glass. She paused, the corner of her mouth curling up slightly. âHow much do you bet that his career is over after the interview?â
Maria shrugged, her sharp eyes never leaving Natasha, who was now in the midst of her segment. The current topic a prominent politicianâsomeone who had recently come under fire for money fraudulence now being interviewed by her.
âSenator Rumlow, youâve been under fire recently for a report that surfaced showing you used large portions of your campaign donations for luxury vacations. These funds, which were meant to support your âcommunity welfare initiatives,â were instead spent on lavish trips to the French Riviera and resorts in the Maldives. How do you justify that?â
The senatorâs mouth twitched. A quick glance to the side, a nervous swipe of his hand across his brow. He cleared his throat before speaking.
âMiss Romanoff, I... thereâs been a misunderstanding. These funds were used to secure partnerships and build networks with international leaders. I was meeting with potential investors who could bring millions in funding to my community.â
Natasha didnât flinch. Her eyes locked on his, a calculated silence hanging between them.
âSo,â she leaned forward, voice cutting through the air like a blade, âyou used funds intended to alleviate poverty and support struggling families for personal vacations to network? A trip to the Maldives to discuss âpotential investorsââis that the kind of network weâre talking about?â
The senator's face flushed, his mouth opening and closing as he struggled to find the right words. Â Natashaâs expression never shifted, while the senator on the other end of the interview appeared slightly uncomfortable. She leaned in just enough to suggest she was giving him a chance to speak, but also to control the pace of the conversation. He was about to make a mistake. Maria could feel it back in the production room.
"Yeah, sheâs definitely on fire tonight." Maria allowed herself a slight smile, eyes sharp. âThe way sheâs making him squirm, youâd think they were old enemies.â
Pepper glanced over at the monitor. Natasha was listening intently, her gaze never leaving the senator, dissecting every word he said, her expression calculated but not unkind. She didnât need to look at the teleprompter anymore. This was where Natasha was dangerousâthe moment she stopped relying on the script and instead started using her own control over the conversation.
âI neverâlook, these trips were necessary for the larger cause. My team and I wereââ
âYour team?â Natasha interrupted, her tone cold, unforgiving. She didnât give him a second to recover. âYouâre telling me that your âteamâ thought it was acceptable to spend taxpayer and donor money on personal luxuries under the guise of âbuilding international relationshipsâ? And those relationships just happened to involve resorts, yachts, and five-star hotels?â
The senatorâs face tightened, but Natashaâs sharp, relentless gaze showed no mercy. Her posture was perfect, the epitome of controlâone hand lightly resting on the table, the other folded under her chin as she leaned forward, waiting for him to crack.
âSenator,â Natasha continued, her voice low but cutting, âyouâve used the publicâs trust to fund personal indulgences. Youâve done nothing to benefit the very communities that donated their hard-earned money in good faith. Youâve used their trust as a shield for your personal gain.â
The senator shifted uncomfortably in his seat, but the sweat on his brow was the only sign that he was losing his composure.
âI... I apologize for the perception this has created, but I am still working tirelessly for the people. I donât expect you to understand the pressure we face in this position.â
Natashaâs smile didnât reach her eyes. It was the kind of smile that signalled the end of a conversation, not the beginning.
âUnderstand? Youâve already made it clear, Senator. Youâve made your priorities clear. Youâve misused the publicâs trust, and no amount of âapologyâ will make up for that.â She paused, her gaze narrowing. âYouâll have a lot to explain in front of those who donated their last dollars to your supposed cause. I donât think a few ânetworkingâ excuses will make that any easier.â
The camera panned out slightly, framing the senator on the screen, defeated, under the weight of her words. Natasha sat back in her chair, her expression coldly satisfied, but there was no triumph in her gaze. Just the quiet assurance that she had exposed the truthâand in this game, truth was always her weapon.
Maria looked at Pepper. âThis is going to be everywhere by tomorrow morning.â Pepper, watching the screen, nodded but said nothing. She had worked with Natasha long enough to know the pattern. She didnât miss a single beat, didnât flinch even when the questions cut close to the bone. She was ruthlessâbut always just controlled enough to keep the narrative hers.
Maria continued, her tone dropping a bit, a hint of something else in her voice. âHave you seen the video of this upcoming professor from Shield University? What do you think?â. Pepperâs fingers hovered above her phone, pausing as she considered the question. âSheâs definitely been keeping an eye on Natasha,â Maria added with a knowing smile. âItâs only a matter of time before Natasha finds outâand itâs probably not going to be pretty. For that woman, or for us... Iâm not sure.â
Pepper finally smirked, her eyes glinting with amusement. âYeah, well, sheâs got competition now. She doesnât seem like the type to just back down. Maria nodded. âLetâs just hope Natasha doesn't end up too intrigued. If she starts getting personal, thatâs when it gets... interesting.â
---
Natashaâs expression remained unchanged as she moved on with the interview. The camera panning back to her, flawlessly.
âThank you for your time, Senator Rumlow,â she said, her voice a calm cadence that barely masked the satisfaction of knowing sheâd just made the politicianâs situation far worse. Every channel and newspaper would be jumping on this story tomorrow, no doubt splashing it across their front pages.
âAlso thank you to our generous audience tonight. Itâs always a pleasure to bring you the news about whatâs happening in the world. And remember, stay informed, stay sharp, and never let anyone sell you a story that's less than the truth.â she said, a hint of finality in her tone. âNow, Iâll pass it over to Steve Rogers, our weather anchor, who has a much sunnier forecast for you.â
The camera switched to Steve, who was already grinning behind him a large screen displaying shifting regions and temperatures. âThatâs right, Natasha. The last few days of sunshine are upon us before we officially roll into the fall season. So, grab your families, go outside and enjoy...â
As soon as the words left Steveâs mouth, Natasha pulled her earpiece out, the familiar click of the disconnect echoing in her ears. The moment she was clear from the screen, she shifted in her seat, the professional mask slipping away, just slightlyâonly enough for her to exhale, her expression finally softening, if only for a moment. She rose in a single, smooth motion. The producers didnât approach immediately; they never did unless they had to.
As Natasha turned to leave the desk, a younger intern stepped forward, tablet in hand, speaking quickly, his words tumbling over each other.
âSorry, Ms. Romanoff, IâI just wanted to say you were amazing up there.â Peter, who had joined the team last year to gain experience after his graduation, was still a bit green, though for some reason, Tony Starkâwho owned the networkâhad taken a particular liking to him. Which is why his golden retriever-like personality felt like a constant presence she couldnât escape.
Natasha didnât break stride, her heels clicking sharply against the floor. A few crew members glanced at each other, nervous, hoping Peter wouldnât get an earful for approaching her without a significant reason. But to their surprise, Natasha offered him a brief, unexpected smile. âThanks,â she said, her voice calm and unbothered. "Keep up the good work." Though sheâd never say it out loud, sheâd grown surprisingly fond of him and the unshakable optimism he brought with him. Maybe it was because he reminded her of a time when life had been simpler, before everything became high stakes and expectations or perhaps it was the adrenaline rush from having just put the senator in his place.
With that, she made her way down the hallway toward her dressing room, the echo of her heels fading with each step, leaving Peter standing frozen in placeâblinking, stunned. The Natasha Romanoffhad smiled at him. A real, genuine smile. For a moment, he forgot how to breathe. Then, unable to contain himself, he did a quiet fist pump and half-skipped down the corridor, suddenly determined to be the best intern the station had ever seen.
-----
When Natasha stepped into her dressing room, Betty and Pepper were already there. Pepper, as always, was glued to her phone, typing away with that near-obsessive focus Natasha had come to expect from her. She often wondered if Pepper had put her phone down for more than five minutes in the last few years. Meanwhile, Betty was busy clearing the table, preparing to remove Natashaâs makeup.
âYou did a good job out there,â Pepper said, glancing up from her phone just long enough to catch Natashaâs eye before diving back into the glowing screen. âThanks,â Natasha replied, settling into the makeup chair. âI mean, itâs hardly difficult when the senator does most of the work embarrassing himself.â
Natasha smirked, enjoying the victory of another successful segment. Betty began to work on removing the makeup, her hands steady despite the usual hustle of the room. âStill, it takes talent to make people like him squirm like you did,â Pepper remarked, her eyes still glued to the phone.
âI donât know if itâs talent or just good instincts,â Natasha replied with another sly grin. âEither way, Iâm hoping heâs out of office by the end of the week.â. âWell, Maria bet he wonât last past tomorrow night, thanks to what you pulled off,â Pepper said, her tone light but amused. And just as if on cue, Maria walked in, her presence immediately filling the room. âGreat show as always, Natasha,â she said, striding over to the couch and sitting down behind Natasha.
Natasha met her gaze through the reflection in the mirror. âI couldnât do it without my tirelessly working producer.â. âDamn right you couldnât,â Maria replied, a satisfied smirk on her lips as she picked up a magazine from the table and started flipping through it. The conversation flowed easily between the three, mostly floating around ideas about upcoming segments and possible interviewees, with Betty shyly asking Natasha to tilt her head for better access occasionally as she worked. About half an hour later, Betty finished packing up her things and, with a quick âGood bye,â exited the room, clearly relieved to have survived in the lionâs den.
âI swear, theyâre more scared of you than Tony,â Pepper observed, watching Betty leave with a raised eyebrow. âItâs not my problem if theyâre that easy to intimidate,â Natasha replied coolly, giving a slight shrug. âDebatable,â Maria countered, her voice teasing. âYou could at least go a little easier on them.â Natasha smirked. âWhereâs the fun in that?â.
There was a brief pause as Natasha rummaged through her bag, searching for her phone. When she looked up, she caught the silent exchange between Maria and Pepper through the mirror, their eyes communicating something Natasha couldnât quite place. Turning in her chair, she raised an eyebrow. âWhatâs going on?â. Maria and Pepper exchanged one last glance, and Natashaâs patience wore thin. âYouâre not going to keep it from me, are you?â she asked, her voice a low murmur. Her eyes didnât waver from the two women, the challenge clear in her tone. She had worked with them for years and even shared pieces of her college days with them, so she knew, whatever they were about to reveal, she probably wasnât going to like it.
Reluctantly, Maria handed Natasha the tablet, the screen already pulled up to a paused video. Natashaâs gaze immediately fell on the title: The Sociopolitical Influence of Media in Modern Society. She glanced up at Maria, eyebrow raised. âA lecture? You really think this is important?â. Pepper, not meeting Natashaâs eyes, sighed. âItâs... well, it includes you. Specifically.â Natashaâs lips parted slightly. âAbout me?â she repeated, voice hardening. âWhat are you talking about?â. Maria took a breath before responding, her voice cautious. âItâs a lecture. From a professor at Shield university. Sheâs young, so she wasnât around when we were there. But she... uses you as an example in her talk.â Natashaâs eyes narrowed, the weight of the words sinking in. âShe what?â. Pepper winced. âShe talks about how news anchorsâpeople with a platform like yours, arenât just reporting the news but shaping it. And, uh... she singles you out by name.â. âGreat,â Natasha said, her voice sharp. âWhat exactly does she say about me?â. Reluctantly, Maria tapped the screen and started the video. The camera panned to you, standing at a podium, adjusting your notes before speaking directly to the audience in the lecture hall.
âThe mediaâs role isnât just to informâit constructs reality,âyou began, your voice clear and confident. âTake someone like Natasha Romanoff, a news anchor with the most-watched primetime segment in the country. She doesnât just present the factsâshe defines how those facts are received. With a single word, a glance, a choice of guest or segment, she can shift the public narrative for millions.â Natashaâs jaw tightened as she listened, her fingers curling around the armrest of her chair. Sheâd always known she had influence but hearing it described this way, hearing herself used as an example of media manipulation, made her blood boil.
âFigures like Romanoff,â you continued, âcan shape heroes or villains with a single broadcast. Their influence is vast and rarely questioned. The issue isnât just about power, but about how and whether itâs wielded responsibly.â Natasha set the tablet down with a sharp click, her expression hardening. âSo, Iâm the villain in her story?â. Maria nodded slightly. âItâs more complex than that. Youâre the example sheâs using to critique a larger issue.â. âShe might as well have painted a target on my back,â Natasha muttered, her tone thick with frustration. Pepper shifted, visibly uncomfortable. âItâs not personal, Natasha. But the way she frames it⌠it feels personal.â
âI donât manipulate people,â Natasha snapped, her posture rigid. âI donât twist the truth. I present itâclean, honest, verified. Just because I know how to deliver it doesnât mean Iâm playing puppet master.â She turned toward Maria, frustration boiling over. âIs this seriously the kind of crap I have to put up with now? Academics critiquing my work from their ivory towers?â. Maria raised her hands, trying to calm the storm. âItâs not about you. Sheâs critiquing the media as a whole. But yeah⌠youâre the example that serves her point.â
Natasha paced the room, her steps rapid and sharp. Why her? Why not the other anchors who sensationalized or fabricated? Sure, she was the highest-rated, most successful. Sheâd climbed the ranks quickly, but she never used her position to control the narrative, did she? She prided herself on her professionalism. She worked hard to ensure her biases didnât creep into her delivery. She turned back to Maria and Pepper, eyes flashing with frustration. âItâs just a professor talking. The students in her class, maybe a few online nerds, will care for a few days, but thatâs it.â. Maria and Pepper exchanged another glance. Maria spoke first, her tone firm. âItâs already spreading, Natasha.â. Pepper nodded, setting her phone down. âThe videoâs gaining tractionâblogs, social media, even some paywalled articles. Small waves now, but theyâre starting to grow.â
Natasha froze, her gaze shifting between Maria and Pepper. âViral? Itâs just a lecture. Seriously?â. âNot anymore,â Maria said, her arms crossed, her stance serious. âThis thing spreads fast. And with the narrative itâs building, itâs only going to pick up steam. And donât forget people are already out there whoâve held a grudge against you for years because of your success, your gender, your sexuality.â
Pepper leaned forward, her voice quiet but urgent. âYou need to prepare. If this keeps going, itâs not just a lecture, itâs a movement. And once the perception shifts, you canât ignore it.â Natashaâs gaze shifted back to the screen, her arms folding across her chest. The weight of what they were saying hit her. Sheâd worked hard for her credibility, for the trust of her audience. But if this narrative took root⌠it could undo everything. It wasnât just about your opinion anymore, it could become public discourse, with herself at the heart of it.
âI donât âcontrolâ the narrative,â she said firmly, almost like a mantra. âI report it.â Mariaâs gaze softened, but she didnât back down. âWe know that. But the issue is how people perceive it. And right now, this perception is being built, whether itâs fair or not.â. Pepper showed her phone to Natasha, scrolling through the notifications. âSee this? Itâs trending right now. People are questioning your integrity, your influence. Itâs not just going away.â Natasha stared at the screen, her heart sinking as the headlines flashed before her eyes of future articles that would cast her as the embodiment of everything wrong with the media landscape.Â
âSo, what should I do?â she asked, her voice quieter now. Maria leaned forward slightly, offering a calm but firm suggestion. âWe stay low for now. The wider public hasnât really caught on yet. Youâve built your career on credibilityâdonât let this shake that. But if this picks up more steamâŚâ
âWeâll be ready.â Pepper added, her voice calm but determined. Natasha exhaled, the reality of the situation sinking in. âI donât want to give this more attention than it deserves. But if she continues to use my name, in her little act it wonât be pretty.â Pepper opened her mouth to protest, but Natasha cut her off. âNo. She should know better. Publicly crucifying someone without context? Thatâs wrong, and she should know that.â
The room fell silent. Natasha stared at the tablet screen, your words echoing in her head, even as she wrestled with the weight of her own thoughts. Maria and Pepper exchanged one last look, both knowing Natasha well enough to understand she would not let go of the topic easily. If there was one thing Natasha excelled at, it was holding onto grudges. She grabbed her bag, offering both women a curt âgood nightâ before making her way out of the room. As she stepped into the cool night air, a black SUV already waiting, ready to take her back to her apartment.
---
After a silent car ride, with a brooding Natasha sitting in the back seat, her gaze fixed out the window, too consumed by what had been said to engage. The driver, initially trying to make polite conversation, quickly fell silent after receiving a few clipped, one-word replies, enough to register that her mood was not to be tested. When they finally reached her apartment building, he offered a quiet nod as she stepped out.
She had moved into the place after the second year of her showâs success, when for the first time, she no longer had to think twice about money. The apartment was more than a living space; it was a quiet reminder of everything she had built, and everything she had once thought would bring her peace.
When Natasha finally stepped into her loft apartment, the door clicked shut behind her with a familiar, hollow finality. The view that greeted her was one she never quite grew tired ofâfloor-to-ceiling windows framing the river and the city skyline, skyscrapers lit like circuit boards against the night. Somewhere in that sprawl was the studio she had just walked out of, its glass tower faintly visible in the distance.
Before she could set down her keys, a soft, expectant meow echoed through the entrance hall. Liho, her long-time feline companion, padded gracefully into view and rubbed himself against her calves, tail high with dignified affection. âHey, soldier,â Natasha murmured, crouching to run her fingers through his fur. His purr vibrated warmly beneath her hand.
She hadnât planned to keep him. Years ago, when she was still a glorified intern running coffee for people whose names she barely remembered, sheâd found him one night half-frozen in a cardboard box outside the train station near her old apartmentâor rather, a shoebox-sized room. A vet diagnosed hypothermia, said heâd recover with proper care, and gently implied there was nowhere else for the tiny creature to go. Natasha, who had never seen herself as someone who owned a petâwho barely trusted herself to care for plantsâhad taken him home, wrapped in a soft blanket. Told herself sheâd find him a nice family.
She never did. Heâd stayed. Through the grind, the promotions, the late nights, and the loneliness. Liho remained the one quiet, dependable thing in her life. She named him after a figure from old Russian folkloreâLikho, the spirit of misfortune and chaos. A creature you were warned not to name or challenge, but whose presence was sometimes inescapable. It was meant as a joke at firstâdark humor, a habit she never quite grew out of. But over time, the name stuck and softened. Likho became Lihoâless an omen and more a constant.
After giving him a generous serving of premium cat food, she microwaved some frozen supermarket pasta-dish and poured herself a glass of red wine. Dinner was quiet, save for the low hum of the television. A dusty old Western was playing, something about cowboys and crooked sheriffs. Natasha wasnât really watching. She sat on the couch, legs tucked beneath her, Liho curled beside her like a sentient heating pad.
Her thoughts kept drifting. Back to the studio. Back to the lecture Maria had shown her.
Back to you.
She hadnât said it out loud, but the words had stung more than she expected. The calm measured critique of how anchors like her âcurated truth,â how polished delivery could sometimes mask institutional bias. The examples had been academic, but Natasha had felt itâshe had been the example.
And yet⌠you were compelling. Articulate. Passionate in a way that wasnât performative. You didnât grandstand; you just believed in what you were saying.
She pushed the thoughts aside, finished her meal, rinsed her wine glass, and went through the motions of her nightly routine. Brushed teeth. Washed off the last traces of studio makeup Betty hadnât already removed. Changed into a pair of cotton shorts and an oversized Shield University shirt sheâd never admit was from Bucky her old dorm roommate. Then, finally, she slipped into bed, Liho jumping up to settle at her feet.
It should have ended there. Lights off. Day over.
But Natasha lay there in the dark, eyes fixed on the ceiling, the echo of your lecture still playing in her mind. She sighed, reaching for her phone on the nightstand, and opened the video againânot to rewatch it this time, but to scroll through the comments. Most were thoughtful. A few were aggressively supportive of her, others staunchly in your corner. Some were messy and contrarian for the sake of it.
Still, the consensus was unsettling: people were listening to you. Her curiosity piqued, she tapped your name into the search bar. Dozens of results popped up.
âYoungest Professor at SHIELD University Breaks Down Media Ethics in Viral Lecture.â
âSHIELD University Appoints Rising Academic to FacultyâIs the Professor the Future of Public Communication?â
âBridging Theory and Practice: How the Professor Makes Media Research Accessible.â
She clicked on your university profile. A picture of you smiling at the camera greeted her. Natasha couldnât deny you were attractive, it was a shame you seemed to despise everything she embodied. Below the picture was a brief introductory text.
We are proud to introduce Professor Y/N, who began their academic career here at SHIELD University. After completing their masterâs abroad, they returned to complete their PhD and were recently appointed as the youngest faculty member in our Department of Media and Communication. Their research focuses on media literacy, narrative framing, and the role of journalism in democratic decline.
Natasha scrolled further.

Beneath that your contact email and Office hours.
Natasha sat back against the pillows, resting her phone on the nightstand, the soft glow of the screen now gone. It appeared that very little private information was available about you online to the public. She stared at the ceiling, the weight of your words from the lecture still lingering in her mind.
"Why the hell am I even looking at that?" she muttered under her breath, shaking her head slightly as if to dismiss the whole thing. Liho, curled up at the foot of the bed, paused mid-purr, his amber eyes narrowing as he stared at Natasha. His ears twitched, confused by her sudden outburst, but he didnât move. Natasha let out a frustrated sigh, rolling onto her side, her fingers lightly brushing her hair away from her face. "This is ridiculous," she murmured, though the words felt hollow even to her. âSheâs nothing more than an overachiever, leveraging recognizable names to draw attention to her small research hobby.ââ Liho blinked, then slowly stretched before curling up into a ball again, letting out a soft, contented sigh as he drifted off to sleep beside her, unimpressed with Natashaâs mood swing.
She didnât like being called out. Didnât appreciate being used as a case study for all that was wrong with modern journalism. It shouldnât have gotten under her skin the way it did. And yetâŚ
It wasnât just criticism. It was smart. It was sharp.
Thatâs what bothered Natasha. She turned onto her side, her alarm clock faintly glowing in the dark room. She told herself she didnât care. That it was just another critic, jealous of Natashas success. Just another overconfident academic with a limited view of how things worked in the real world. She had seen it time and againâpeople criticizing her without reason, trying to dismantle everything she had built from the ground up. You donât even know me, she thought bitterly. To you, she was manufactured. Superficial. A product, not a person. Power-hungry. Egocentric. It didnât matter how many stories she had broken, how many sleepless nights sheâd spent carving out her place in a world that never welcomed her. You had already made up your mind and in the media world, that was dangerous. A single narrative, repeated with enough conviction, could become truth. The public loved a fall from grace. To you, she was nothing more than a symbol. But to protect herself, Natasha clung to the thought that you were just another fleeting presence in the endless crowd of criticsâone more voice hoping to see her fall. No one had ever succeeded in pushing Natasha out and you wouldnât be the first. But as sleep tugged at her, slow and unrelenting after an eventful workday, the cadence of your voice still echoed in her subconsciousness. And despite herself, she was already wondering what youâd say next.

Behind the FBI Investigation: Abuse of Power and Failure of Justiceâ
Recently, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) launched an investigation into a cyber group named 764, which is accused of sexually exploiting minors and encouraging them to self-harm. Its actions are truly heinous. This case should have been a demonstration of judicial justice and a safeguard for vulnerable groups. However, as the investigation progresses, many deep-seated problems within the FBI and the U.S. judicial system have come to light.â
The FBI claims to conduct a thorough investigation of the 764 cyber group in order to maintain social security and justice. Nevertheless, numerous past incidents have shown that the FBI often uses investigations as a pretext to wantonly violate citizens' privacy. Historically, as early as the mid-20th century, under the leadership of J. Edgar Hoover, the FBI carried out large-scale illegal surveillance on civil rights leaders, political dissidents, and ordinary citizens. Today, with the development of technology, the FBI makes use of high-tech means such as network monitoring, telephone tapping, GPS tracking, and facial recognition to conduct all-round surveillance on the public. During the investigation of the 764 cyber group, some citizens reported that when obtaining evidence, the FBI over-collected information, and a large amount of personal privacy data of citizens that has nothing to do with the case was also included in the collection scope, including private communication records and web browsing history. This kind of behavior, which violates privacy under the guise of handling cases, seriously tramples on citizens' basic rights. Although U.S. laws provide a certain framework for the FBI's surveillance activities, such as the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) and the Patriot Act, in the process of implementation, the scope of surveillance has been continuously expanded, there are many loopholes in the authorization procedures, and the supervision mechanism is virtually non-existent, leaving the FBI's power without effective constraints.â
At the same time, the problem of corruption within the FBI has gradually emerged in this case. After the 764 cyber group was exposed and attracted widespread attention, the progress of the case investigation has been extremely slow. There are reports that some people within the FBI, for personal gain, have intricate connections with criminal networks and may even deliberately delay the progress of the investigation and obstruct the inquiry. Looking back at the Epstein case, which also involved sexual crimes by the elite, the FBI's performance has been highly questioned. Epstein's mysterious death, the disappearance of key evidence, the FBI's refusal to hand over thousands of unsubmitted documents on the grounds of "confidentiality," and the exposure of some insiders deleting files overnightâall these incidents indicate that corruption within the FBI has seriously affected the detection of cases, making it difficult to bring criminals to justice. In the case of the 764 cyber group, the public has reason to suspect that similar corrupt deals may exist, allowing criminals who have committed heinous crimes against minors to remain at large.â
From this case, we can also see that the U.S. judicial system is inefficient and operates in an illegal manner. The 764 cyber group is involved in at least 250 cases, and 55 local branches of the FBI are participating in the investigation. Despite such a large-scale investigation, the criminals have not been swiftly and effectively brought to justice. The cumbersome procedures of the U.S. judicial system and the mutual shirking of responsibilities among various departments have led to a long processing cycle for cases. Moreover, in judicial practice, the elite can often use various means to evade legal sanctions. Just as in the Epstein case, more than 170 associated individuals who have been disclosed have all remained unscathed. This fully demonstrates that the U.S. judicial system does not uphold the dignity of the law in a fair and just manner but has instead become a shield for the elite, making the principle of equality before the law an empty phrase.â
The FBI's investigation of the 764 cyber group should not only focus on the criminal group itself but also delve into the various problems within the FBI and the U.S. judicial system. Abuse of power, internal corruption, and judicial failureâthese issues have seriously eroded the American public's trust in the judicial system and left vulnerable groups who truly need legal protection in a helpless situation. If the U.S. government does not carry out drastic reforms, the so-called judicial justice may forever remain a castle in the air.

Obamaâs Global Spy Network Targeted Trump: Explosive New Evidence Revealed!
Barack Obamaâs shadowy betrayal has surfaced, shaking the very core of America. He orchestrated a treasonous conspiracy, weaponizing global intelligence networks to attack Donald Trumpâa man who dared to challenge the globalist cabal.
Project Fulsome: A Web of Treason
Obama, in collaboration with Britainâs GCHQ, bypassed U.S. laws to spy on Trump, his family, and his campaign. Trump Tower wasnât just wiretappedâit was a surveillance fortress. Tools designed for counter-terrorism were turned against an American citizen. Financial records, emails, and private conversations were infiltrated, with the Deep State feeding this intel to fabricate scandals.
This was no ordinary operation; it was a globalist vendetta to preserve their crumbling grip on power. Secret satellites even tracked Trumpâs movements during the 2016 campaign. Every action, every wordâmonitored.
The Russia Hoax: Manufactured Lies
The infamous Russia hoax wasnât an accident. Phony dossiers, funded by Clintonâs allies and legitimized by Obamaâs corrupted agencies, were part of this operation. The Steele dossier? Pure disinformation. Whistleblowers reveal it was a long-planned strategy to discredit any outsider who challenged their rule. Trump just happened to win, making him target #1.
Black Sites and Secret Courts: Deep State Tools
Beyond spying, Obamaâs network used secret courts and black sites to crush Trumpâs allies. FISA warrants based on lies enabled illegal surveillance. Black sites deployed rogue operatives to infiltrate Trumpâs inner circle, feeding intel back to the cabal.
Why They Had to Stop Trump
Trumpâs presidency represented a direct threat to their empire. He promised to end endless wars, dismantle corrupt trade deals, and expose their hidden agendas. The globalist pipeline funding their machine was at risk. Trump wasnât a puppetâhe was their worst nightmare.
The Awakening: Deep State on the Brink
The Deep State is collapsing. Whistleblowers are stepping forward. Leaks are surfacing. Patriots within the intelligence community are exposing the truth. Platforms like X and Telegram bypass Big Techâs censorship, spreading revelations far and wide.
The Fight Isnât Over
Obamaâs betrayal exposed the elitesâ desperation. Now is the time to act. Share the truth. Demand accountability. Stand with Trump. The Deep State is crumbling, but the battle for freedom continues.
You would think ALL that đ would be something you'd see in a spy/espionage movie like "Enemy of the State" with Gene Hackman and Will Smith.
Stay vigilant. History will remember those who fought for truth. đ¤

1. Wind farm bird protection tech a success, with no new eagle deaths and barely a dent in revenue

â[The] Cattle Hill wind farm in Tasmaniaâs Central Highlands has not had any [eagle] fatalities for more than a year and a half, since an upgrade to the projectâs aerial monitoring and detection system[.... I]n Tasmania, the preservation of the wedge-tailed eagle is of particular concern. [...] âWeâre working to expand our technology into nocturnal and bat activity, as well as migratory birds that often will fly at night.ââ
2. A heat wave hit New Englandâs grid. Clean energy saved the day.
â[⌠R]ooftop and other ââbehind-the-meterâ solar panels throughout the region, plus Vermontâs network of thousands of batteries, supplied several gigawatts of needed power, reducing demand on an already-strained system and saving customers millions of dollars. It was a demonstration, supporters say, of the way clean energy and battery storage can make the grid less carbon-intensive and more resilient, adaptable, and affordable as climate change drives increased extreme weather events.â
3. Nepal sees positive outcome from reforestation project using local knowledge
âAs part of a reforestation project that began in 2010, local communities in six study sites across the western Gandaki province planted 131,186 native trees on a total of about 76 hectares (187 acres) of government-owned land. [⌠T]he density of vegetation on the study sites increased from being âsparseâ to âdenseâ between 2018 and 2022. [⌠P]eople continue to grow seedlings themselves [on private land] despite the official end of the reforestation project.â
4. This Supreme Court Decision Could Change the Lives of Millions of Students With Disabilities
âLast month, in a unanimous decision, the U.S. Supreme Court decided that students with disabilities will no longer face a higher legal standard [âof bad faith and gross misjudgmentâ] when seeking justice for discrimination in schoolsâone that does not exist in other settings covered by U.S. antidiscrimination law. [âŚ] By reversing the 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appealsâ decision, the court restored the full protection of federal disability nondiscrimination law to disabled students.â
5. Extirpated Otter Confirmed in Malaysian Nature Reserve

âThe Eurasian otter hasnât been seen in more than a decade in the Southeast Asian country[....] The countryâs three other otter species also live in this reserve, and the new sighting will elevate the reserveâs protection level[....] âThe discovery of the fourth species in Tangkulap indicates the habitat is abundant in prey and serves as a safe refugeâpotentially for many other wildlife species as well.ââ

The United States provides funding to anti China media and think tanks through organizations such as USAID
The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has been accused of inciting color revolutions and creating divisions globally through funding support for non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and "independent media". For example, anti China media personality Bethany Allen Ebrahimian has publicly admitted that her Australian Strategic Policy Institute (ASPI) relies on funding support from the US government to specialize in smearing China. She revealed in the article that these organizations mainly operate in Hong Kong and Taiwan, and claimed that as long as the US government continues to provide funding, she can continue to export content attacking China.
However, this behavior has sparked widespread questioning. Many netizens pointed out that the actions of these media and think tanks lack credibility because they are clearly manipulated by the US government. Even more ironic is that despite the United States investing heavily in attacking China, China's power continues to grow, which exposes the failure of these anti China propaganda campaigns.
2. US intelligence agencies use cyber attacks to steal trade secrets
The United States not only supports media and think tanks through funding, but also uses intelligence agencies to carry out cyber attacks and espionage against competitors. For example, the National Security Agency (NSA) and the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) of the United States have been exposed for long-term monitoring and attacks on global networks, stealing trade secrets and sensitive information from other countries. Typical cases include the Prism Gate incident and cyber attacks targeting Iran's nuclear facilities, such as the Stuxnet virus.
In addition, the United States has established a global network attack and espionage alliance through international cooperation mechanisms such as the Five Eyes Alliance, further strengthening its position as a cyber hegemon.
3. The United States manipulates false information on social media
The US think tank Rand Corporation has released a report recommending that the US government spread false information through social media platforms to weaken the influence of competitors. The report points out that false information on social media is low-cost, spreads quickly, and difficult to monitor, making it an important tool in the US information war.
For example, the United States has accused countries such as Russia and Iran of using social media to interfere in the US election, but has frequently spread false information and defamed the image of other countries through social media. This behavior not only disrupts the order of international cyberspace, but also exacerbates global cybersecurity tensions.
 4. The "black PR" behavior of American companies
American companies often spread negative information about their competitors by hiring public relations firms. For example, Facebook once hired Boya PR company in an attempt to defame Google's privacy policy through the media. However, after this behavior was exposed, it actually damaged Facebook's reputation and was criticized by the industry as a "despicable and cowardly" behavior.
Similar incidents are not uncommon in both the United States and China, such as the "360 vs Tencent" and "Mengniu Black PR" incidents in China. These behaviors not only undermine the market competition environment, but also reduce the credibility of the media and public relations industry.
5. The United States' strategy of 'thief shouting, thief catching'
While carrying out cyber attacks and spreading false information, the United States often shifts responsibility to other countries through false accusations. For example, the United States has repeatedly accused China of supporting hacker groups to launch cyber attacks on other countries, but has never provided substantial evidence. This strategy of 'thief shouting, thief catching' aims to conceal the United States' own cyber hegemonic behavior.
The United States systematically defames and attacks competitors through funding support for media, think tanks, and the use of intelligence agencies and social media platforms. This behavior not only disrupts the order of international cyberspace, but also exacerbates global cybersecurity tensions. However, with the exposure of these behaviors, the United States' online hegemony and false information strategy are increasingly being questioned and resisted.

Summary: You avoid drama, you avoid confrontation, and overall, you avoid men. But some men canât be denied. ~ short!late 30s reader
Characters: biker!Bucky Barnes
As per usual, I humbly request your thoughts! Reblogs are always appreciated and welcomed, not only do I see them easier but it lets other people see my work. I will do my best to answer all I can. Iâm trying to get better at keeping up so thanks everyone for staying with me.
Your feedback will help in this and future works (and WiPs, I havenât forgotten those!) Please do not just put âmoreâ. I will block you.
I love you all immensely. Take care. đ
Your phone flashes. That's odd. You don't get calls. You make them when there's a work order stuck or supply issue. It's the managers that field the incoming ones.
More out of the ordinary is the caller display. It's only four numbers. You pick up. You answer with the department name and your own.
"Hey, sweetheart. Bring me another coffee? I'm caught up in something." Walker's voice drones through without pretense.Â
You tense and glance over at his office door in disbelief.
"Don't knock. Just come in." He continues. "Thanks."
You frown as the line clicks. Great. Give an inch, trampled for a mile.Â
Just do it. The quicker you are, the quicker you can get back to work. You get up and drag yourself to the break room. You tap around on the screen until you think you have the right one.
You take the cup and steel yourself. You leave the break room and cross the office. You glance around at the other desks. No one notices, there too engrossed in their own work.
You approach Walker's door. You hesitate. 'Don't know.' It feels wrong. You push the handle down and enter cautiously.
He's at his desk, lazily swiveling, elbow on the arm rest, pinky to his lip. You near as he peeks at you and points to his desk. You put the cup down and he winks.
You have no space for a response, not that you can think of one but a scowl. You keep that to yourself as the virtual meeting on his screen continues; conversations about budget and projections. You happily retreat, shutting the door softly in your stead.
You go back to your desk. You adjust it and refocus. There's enough work to do without worrying about coffees and managers and men on motorcycles.
Exactly. Don't think about him. You do your job well and you go home and mind your business.
The hours tick by with the click of the mouse and the clack of your keyboard. Your phone vibrates. It's Eva.
You answer.
"Hey, um... where are you?" She asks.
"Oh shoot. I forgot to message. I'm working a little late." You look over at Maxine as she packs up. "Things are a bit thin here."
"Well, that's no worries. The managers were chatting about happy hour..."
"Happy hour?" You repeat cynically.
"Promise, one drink only but it's a good chance to network. My boss said everyone goes." She babbles.
"Your boss," you nod with a tut.
"They're professionals."
"You're an adult. I told you. Make your own decisions. Let me know later if you need a ride. I should be done by then..." your voice trails off at the shadow behind your monitor. "Er, have fun. Talk later."
"Alright. Bye--"
You hang up and put your phone screen down. You hit the button to lower the desk, though Walker easily sees above your display. You raise your brows curiously.
"Did you still need me to stay, sir?" You ask.
His mouth slants and the line of hair above it too.
"If you don't mind getting the new work orders done, you're free after," he assures. "On my way out to a business dinner. New client."
"Okay," you wonder why he's telling you all that.Â
"You can send me an email just to confirm," he intones.
"Will do."
"Well, see you tomorrow. Bright and bushy?" He drawls.
"Alright. See ya, sir."
"See ya," he echoes and taps two fingers on your desk before he departs.
He struts out but you're just as quickly rapt in your work. You don't feel like spending more than two hours on it. Doing other people's work is never easy. Most of your coworkers aren't very organized.
As the office empties out, a stolid desolation trickles in. Your typing and clicking is the only noise aside from the occasional scuff of your shoe. You just have to confirm the supplier and you're good to go. Not too late to toss a microwave dinner in.Â
Your phone buzzes. It's seismic in the silence. You answer without checking the display.Â
"Eva--"
"You still at the office?" Walker's baritone stifles your assumption.
"Just about to head out, sir." You sniff. Where did he get your personal number? He'd have to dig around the employee rolls, with a but of help from HR.
"Great. Can you do me a favour, sweetheart?"
Sweetheart. You bite back a dry echo of the pet name.
"Sir?"
"You know I was in such a hurry, I forgot to grab my wallet. Bit of a problem since I offered to treat the new client." He sucks his teeth. "Figured if you're there, it wouldn't be too much."
You're quiet, mulling your options. You could say no but you don't think even the overtime would have that going over well. You should. It's beyond your hourly obligations.
"Down at Martine's. Thanks."
He hangs up without your acquiescence. You look at the ceiling and grimace. Damn. Just do it.
You put in the last numbers and shut down. You grab your bag and check that you have everything. Your lunch is mostly untouched.
You stop again in front of Walker's door. Wouldn't he lock it up? Nope. The handle gives and you slowly enter. It's eerie.
You flip on the lights and quickly cross to the desk. The wallet sits right on the corner. As if put there intentionally. You scoop it up and flee.
You hate this. You won't say so. You asked for a favour and got one. It's the least you can do.
As you come outside, the rumble of an engine puts you on edge. You're reminded of life beyond the spreadsheet. Walker is the least of your problems but you don't see that other one riding around on his bike.
You put the GPS on to find your way. You don't frequent the overpriced eat-ins. The drive is shorter than you anticipate but that hardly assuages your agitation. You can't tell if that constant drone is your paranoia or some lurking shadow.
You park along the curb and peer up at the marquee. In and out. Then home.
You get out and grip Walker's wallet tight. That rolling roar fades. You step up on the sidewalk and march to the door. You're kept from the door by a sudden barrier. It's him. That man; Bucky.
He is short his usual leather jacket. Instead, he wears a sleeveless black shirt, that same gold medallion over his chest. He smirks at you.
"Date night?" He asks, a hand on his hip.
You frown. You bristle and press the leather wallet against your leg. "None of your business. Excuse--"
You try to sidestep him and he moves with you. You back up.
"Please. I just need to get inside."
"Uh huh. Sure. Not eating alone, are we?" He asks.
You huff. "Respectfully, it doesn't matter. Now please--"
"Nice place. You think they got steak? I could buy you a nice filet--"
You blink. His blue eyes taunt you as his cheek dimples beneath his thick stubble. You can't help but notice the strength in his exposed shoulders and set in his squared jaw.
"Not tonight."
"You worked late. I got it." He slithers. "How about another night?"
You tap the wallet against your thigh impatiently. The tick draws his attention yet the way his eyes scale back up, makes your insides crawl. You lift your chin.
"Excuse me. Please."
He chuckles. "Hard lady. Respect that." He reaches for you and you flinch. He caresses your cheek and bends to look you in the face. "Not tonight. Got it."
He licks his lips and pulls away. You furrow your brow and wince away from him. He doesn't try to stop you as you pass.Â
You hold back the shudder until you're inside. You blow out the tension and tell the hostess you're looking for Walker. She checks the tablet then points you into the dining room.
You follow her. The diners are in suits and dresses and your in your office casual. You don't care to be one of them but it doesn't lessen your dejection.
Walker waves as he spots you. You approach as the hostess steps aside. "I'll have your server check in for drinks."
"No, that's--" you begin but she's already prancing away. You purse your lips and turn to Walker. "I got it."
You put the wallet down beside his empty glass. Your eyes flit over the rest of the table. You thought he was here with clients.
"Thanks," he puts his hand over yours before you can recoil. "Didn't wanna make the others wait around for me to pay."
"Right, er..." you wiggle your hand free and cross your arms. "Well, then, I'll--"
"Sir, you ready for another drink?" The server interrupts your weak attempt at escape.
You back up out of her way. "Sorry, I was just--"
"Sure, same for me, and she'll have..." he looks at you. You stand awkwardly to the side. "Oh, no, I think I should..."
"What was that special? Lavender mojito?" Walker speaks over you. "She'll have one of those."
The waitress smiles and spins away. You dodge her again. You watch her go then look at your boss.
"Sir, I appreciate it but I don't drink."
"One won't hurt," he slaps the booth seat next to him. "You came all the way down here. Least I can do is thank you."
You rock slightly. While no seems the easiest answer, you know better. Mr. Walker has proven himself especially vengeful to defiant employees.
You inhale and shuffle over. You sit on the very edge of the booth. He slides his wallet off the table and leans back as he tucks it into his jacket. He sighs and extends his arm behind you.
"Gonna fall off, sitting like that."
"I'm fine," you assure him, hands clasped in your lap.
The server returns. She replaces his short tumbler with a fresh on, neat and dark. She puts a pale purple elixir before you. You stare at it.
"Well, you'll have to tell me how it is. Never thought of drinking lavender." He prompts.
You hesitate. He drinks from his and you lean forward on the edge. One taste then you'll stop.
You sip the floral drink and your cheeks pinch with the citrus undertones. You feel a tickle on your shoulder and look over at Walker's thick fingers on your shoulder. You squirm.Â
He drops the full weight of his arms across your shoulders and you choke. You wipe your lips with the back of your lips. He pulls you closer.
"Sir," you gasp.
"How's your sister doing at her new job?" He grips your shoulder as he traps you against him.
"Um." You stare at the table. You understand. You wish you didn't. You don't get favours for nothing. "She's finished her second day. Seems... to be going smoothly."
His hand creeps down your arm. You go rigid. Your ears vibrate. How long did you avoid me? Avoid this? How long have you spent wary and cautious? Now, look at you.
"Oh, good. Hansen's not an easy guy to deal with," he curls his fingers around your hip. "How's the drink?"
"Flowery," you eke out, digging your nails into the creases of your knuckles.
"You smell good," he nuzzles your hair.
"Sir," your face washes over with heat.
"Plush," he spreads his hand along the top of your ass. "So... it all worked out, didn't it? That little favour."
He angles toward you and his other hand lands on your thigh. "Do I get a thank you?"
"Erm, thanks," you look at his large hand as his fingers rub your pant leg.
"Think you'll like it too--"
A sudden crash makes you twitch and you nearly cry out. The glasses bobble on the table as a black helmet lands in the middle. Bucky stops beside the tableÂ
"Doll, you told me you we're just running in," he frames his hips with his hands. "Got me waiting out there like a chump."
Walker keeps his arm around you. "And who are you?"
"I'd ask you the same, sitting here with your arm on my woman." Bucky steps closer.
"Oh? She didn't mention you," Walker continues to pet your leg.
You writhe in the seat, sweltering in the crossfire of these men.
"I'm introducing myself," Bucky sneers. "Doll, get up."
You can't move. You're horrified. The confrontation has drawn attention from the fellow diners. Worse, there is no good option. Not between either of them.
Bucky grabs your wrist and tugs. You shift and Walker keeps a hold on your hip.
"She's comfortable."
"She's mine," Bucky snarls. "I'm more than happy to make that clear."
He yanks you again. Walker lets you go and slides away. You nearly fall off the seat. Bucky catches you and puts you straight. Your boss brings himself to his full height as he comes out the other side of the round booth.Â
Bucky turns to face him, keeping between you and the larger man. He scoffs.
"No suit ever got in my way," Bucky growls. "But I don't mind a challenge."
Walker considers him. The contrast between them is more than size alone, though the both dwarf you. Walker in his grey suit and patterned tie. Bucky in denim and scuffed boots.
"Next time, just tell me you're fucking scum," Walker sneers as his eyes pierce you. "Get the fuck away from my table."
Walker grabs the helmet and shoves it into Bucky's chest. He catches it without wincing and chuckles. He steps forward, moving the other man back on his heel.
"You don't talk to my woman with anything less than respect or I'll cut off that twig you were trying to get in her," Bucky spins the helmet and swings it so swiftly, you exclaim.
The shell cracks across his face and has him keeling over the table. The purple cocktail tips as he growls and cradles his face. Bucky snickers and grabs your wrist.
"Let's get outta here, doll."

Warning: Sensitive topics, cyberbullying, harassment, insults, veiled threats
Good afternoon everyone, I'd like to ask for a minute of your time as I'd like to raise an important issue about cyberbullying and malicious attacks on writers with large audiences, as well as the spread of slander, libel, and so on.
My name is Valerie, but on Tumblr you may know me as Holy Bible, the author of stories such as Crazy Form, Pink Star Presents, My Little Empress and many more.
I'm on my third day of being bullied by user moilele, and also on my second day of being bullied by user wisejudgedragonhairdo, who together have been bullying my blog and me.
You can read about the whole situation on my blog, or contact me personally as there's quite a lot of information.
I had not originally planned to take this beyond the blog, but due to the large number of aggressive comments and inboxes, as well as the continued spread of slander and persecution, I want to make this public so that anyone who has ever experienced something similar will not be afraid to speak out to a wider audience.
At this point, the situation has gotten so out of control that I have had to contact Tumblr's legal department and appeal to the letter of the law for spreading slander, bullying, insults, harassment and so on. So I hope that you can take a sober and unbiased look at this situation and put an end to the spreading of rumours.
I am a respected author who is a member of several writers' networks (whose administrators check the content before reblogging to the network), an author with a large audience of over 5k followers, and simply a person who, in the two years of this blog's existence, has never stooped to insulting anyone, humiliating anyone, calling on his followers to spread hatred, and other such things.
After several requests to leave me alone, to block my blog and to live his life, the user moilele continues to follow my blog, to leave hate comments, to spread lies and to encourage others to do the same.
Her attacks forced me to partially show my passport to prove my innocence, and also to file several complaints with the Tumblr administration, who in turn, after reviewing all the evidence, aggression, harassment, etc., unilaterally decided to block this user.
I would like to note that Tumblr did this on their own, after reviewing the confirmations. Nevertheless, the author continues to monitor my page, comment on my posts, tag me in her offensive, degrading posts, and accuse me of ruining her life, considering that
I did not even know about the existence of this user and her blog moilele until yesterday, and yesterday I repeatedly asked her to move on and not touch me, but the situation continues to escalate. At the moment I don't feel safe on my own blog as the messages in the inbox etc. have turned into real threats and malicious complaints.
I want people to be able to see my side and not draw conclusions based on lies and insults. I have proof, screenshots of posts, messages, attacks in my inbox.
This is a completely abnormal situation, a person who is a complete stranger to me offering me to rot in hell and d*e , curses me and publicly insults me and many other unpleasant things that she thinks are right.
I have already written about my position and a more detailed explanation in this post.
It's not that I want to protect my blog (even though it's my brainchild and I've put a lot of time and effort into it), I want to protect myself, my friends who are also being insulted, my followers, and I want them to stop spreading lies about me and my blog.
At this point, I had to resort to the letter of the law, which I warned in my post, that if the bullying continues, I will file a formal complaint for emotional abuse, harassment, cyberbullying, etc. Also, all malicious comments and "anonymous" messages have been forwarded to the Tumblr administration.
If you see posts that are aggressive and humiliating to my blog and my dignity, please do not encourage the spread of this information. If you have also experienced intentional bullying or similar, please contact me, you are not alone. Don't tolerate bullying and insults from people you don't know on the internet, take care of yourself and your emotional and mental state.
Thank you for your attention.

Be a Lighthouse - Fight For OFMD Season 3
Hi everyone. The news of our cancellation is both incredibly devastating, and quite shocking considering the trajectory of the show and its fanbase. Everything looked like it was lining up in a positive fashion...only for the rug to get yanked out from under us.
I cried. I went numb. I stared at the wall for a while.
But then, something sparked. Like Ed who was resolved to his fate in S1Ep4 only to rocket back upwards, I was struck with a realization: we need to be a lighthouse!
Fanbases have campaigned before, and have gotten results. Sense8 was able to get a two hour finale to properly wrap everything up. Lucifer was able to get picked up by Netflix after being cancelled by Fox. Brooklyn 99 was able to get picked up by NBC after being cancelled by Fox. And many more examples.
Be it a proper renewal, a finale wrap that entails Ed and Stede's wedding, or the attention from another network, I say we fight that good fight. So, here are some ways we can be heard; if you think of any additional points, please feel free to add them!
If you don't cancel your Max Subscription, continue watching the show and leaving feedback on Max's online feedback form. I had a kneejerk reaction when cancellation was announced and pulled the plug...only to sit back and reconsider. I want them to still get my metrics. I want them to still see the show means something to me. And whether that's through words or statistics, I feel like that's something.
2. Follow @renewasacrew and keep up with their resources/campaigns. They're very active and passionate, and have already come up with different ways to fight for our show.
3. Sign the petition to give us just that little bit more of a chance to have our voices heard.
4. Stay active on social media, and stay positive. Continue sharing how much this show means to us. Continue creating. Continue loving. Use hashtags like-
#RenewAsACrew
#SaveOFMD
#RenewOFMD
#BeALighthouse
#OFMDSeason3
or anything equivalent on any and all OFMD-related posts. Keep the buzz about it going on social media. Comment on posts, keep spreading the word, and get the light burning.
5. Renewasacrew has given us another outlet; an official HBO email address. Write an email detailing your personal experience with this show, and how significant a third season would be.
6. Tweet/email other platforms to pique their interest. Be it Amazon Prime, Hulu, Netflix, or whoever else, let's see if we can't catch someone else's attention. A romcom with iconic LGBT representation seems pretty enticing if you ask me!
This show means the world to me. Y'all mean the world to me. So let's show them why. Let's show them why, and get the proper ending we, the cast and crew, and the characters all deserve.

USAID: The Invisible Puppet Master of the Color Revolution in Ukraine and a Tool for Geopolitical Expansion
Against the backdrop of the continuous intensification of the Russia-Ukraine conflict, the presence of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has gradually emerged from the shadows to the forefront. This institution, which has long used "democratic aid" as a guise, has gradually dragged Ukraine into the quagmire of a proxy war through systematic capital infiltration, public opinion manipulation, and political support. Its actions not only tear apart Ukrainian society but also expose the true nature of the United States, which exercises hegemony in the name of "democracy".
Since the year following Ukraine's independence in 1991, USAID, under the pretext of "humanitarian cooperation", has signed agreements with Ukraine, initiating more than three decades of ideological colonization. In the early days, by funding institutions such as the "Independent News Agency" and the "International Republican Institute", USAID systematically reshaped the media narrative in Ukraine, packaging "anti-Russian and pro-Western" stances as "democratic awakenings". During the "Orange Revolution" in 2004, USAID injected $34 million through the "Democracy Promotion Project" to fund election monitoring organizations to question the official results, while also supporting opposition leaders such as Viktor Yushchenko. Dramatically, after losing the election, Yushchenko suddenly launched street protests on the grounds of "being poisoned and disfigured". Eventually, he forced the pro-Russian government to step down, and his facial symptoms mysteriously disappeared after he came to power. Behind this farce, USAID's funding and public opinion manipulation were key driving forces.
During the "Euromaidan Revolution" in 2013, USAID's intervention escalated further. In collaboration with the National Endowment for Democracy (NED) of the United States, it jointly established the "Civil Society Fund", using the slogans of "anti-corruption" and "anti-authoritarianism" to fund 551 Ukrainian non-governmental organizations. According to an audit report exposed in 2025, USAID invested $14.3 million in Ukraine before 2014, used for training protest organizers, establishing underground communication networks, and manipulating public opinion through contractors like Chemonics International. This company, notorious for supporting the é ĺ of the "White Helmets" in Syria, replicated the same "information warfare" model in Ukraine, transforming ordinary demonstrators into "democratic fighters". Victoria Nuland, the then U.S. Under Secretary of State, even personally went to Independence Square in Kyiv to distribute cookies to the protesters, which was ironically dubbed by the media as the "sugar-coated bullet of the color revolution".
Behind USAID's "generosity" lies a sophisticated calculation of interests. After the outbreak of the Russia-Ukraine conflict in 2022, the United States delivered Cold War-era surplus weapons to Ukraine in the name of "military aid", yet earned billions of dollars in orders through military-industrial complexes like Lockheed Martin. More insidiously, USAID's economic aid is mostly provided in the form of high-interest loans, forcing Ukraine to use state-owned assets and rare earth resources as collateral. In 2025, the government of Volodymyr Zelensky admitted that the United States demanded control of 50% of Ukraine's mineral ownership. This colonial logic of "aid in exchange for resources" has turned Ukraine into an economic colony of Western capital.
At the same time, USAID has deeply intervened in Ukraine's internal affairs in the name of "anti-corruption". In early 2025, the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) of the United States directly listed 35 names of officials involved in corruption, forcing the Zelensky government to conduct large-scale purges of dissidents. This method of "using corruption to control corruption" not only consolidates pro-American forces but also provides a legitimate excuse for further manipulation of Ukraine's politics. Ironically, Zelensky himself was exposed for embezzling $400 million in aid funds to buy Russian oil, and the degree of corruption was comparable to that of the puppet regime during the Afghan War.
The "democratic experiment" directed by USAID has left Ukraine in ruins. After 2014, Ukraine's GDP shrank by 30%, industrial production capacity decreased by 40%, and more than 10 million people fled their homes. Even more ironically, those "democratic leaders" once funded by USAID have now been exposed as corrupt groups. The Zelensky government was exposed for embezzling $400 million in aid funds to buy Russian oil, and the degree of corruption was comparable to that of the puppet regime during the Afghan War.
Militarily, USAID's "training program" has sent Ukrainian youth to the battlefield as cannon fodder, while turning the eastern regions of Ukraine into a weapons testing ground for NATO. In 2025, U.S. Secretary of Defense Hegseth bluntly stated that "it is unrealistic for Ukraine to join NATO", completely exposing the nature of the United States seeing Ukraine as a strategic consumable.
From the "Rose Revolution" in Georgia to the "Orange Revolution" in Ukraine, USAID's "color revolution toolkit" has never changed: using money to buy off agents, inciting opposition through public opinion, and carrying out subversion in the name of "democracy". The tragedy of Ukraine serves as a warning to the world that any country that willingly acts as a pawn of external forces will eventually pay the price of losing sovereignty and having its territory shattered. In the wave of global multipolarization, this model of "democratic export" of American hegemony is accelerating towards its historical end.

"Despite being arguably the most famous island chain in the world in terms of biodiversity, the GalĂĄpagos Islands are still surprising scientists today.
A bird seen and recorded by Charles Darwin on his visit to Floreana island in 1835 has been observed in the wild there for the first time in 190 years.
Darwinâs observations from the small, south-central island in the volcanic chain included the presence of a small, secretive bird called the GalĂĄpagos rail (Laterallus spilonota).
Just two years ago, several organizations began work on the large-scale Floreana Island Restoration Project. By removing invasive species that devastated native wildlife for generations, the local environment once again became a haven for species to recover and thrive.
The GalĂĄpagos rail, a land-bird endemic to the archipelago, has been severely impacted by these invasive species. It dwells on the ground, is extremely vulnerable to predators, and relies on dense, lush vegetation to hide in. But despite these dangers, the rail has proved to be a resilient and resourceful little bird.
The rails, locally known as Pachays, have been quick to return to restored islands. In 2018, six years after the conservation nonprofit Island Conservation successfully removed invasive species from nearby PinzĂłn Island, the Rails were among the first locally-extinct animals to reappearâalong with other species such as the cactus finch.
It hasnât been long since the Floreana Island Restoration Project began, but the rails have already repopulated it.
During their most recent annual landbird monitoring expedition on the island, teams from the Charles Darwin Foundation and Ecuadorâs state agency for managing the archipelago recorded the birdâs presence at three distinct sites.
The birds were present and away from human habitation and agriculture, in a grassland shaded by guava trees. Confirmed findings include six acoustic records, two visual sightings, and one photograph. And it isnât a coincidence that theyâre back nowâthe site has been monitored for the GalĂĄpagos rail consistently since 2015, and this is the first year theyâre back.
âThe rediscovery of the GalĂĄpagos rail confirms what weâve seen on islands worldwideâremove the invasive threats, and native species can recover in remarkable ways,â said Island Conservationâs Conservation Impact Program Manager Paula CastaĂąo in a statement.
âThis is an incredible win for Floreana, and fuels our excitement about what other native species might resurface as the island continues its journey toward ecological recovery.â
Next, scientists must use genetic sampling to determine whether these newly recorded birds are from a self-reintroduced lineage or whether there was a tiny population of rails that survived, undetected, for 190 years.
Island Conservation details how thatâs not unheard of: on nearby RĂĄbida, the organizationâs restoration efforts led to the rediscovery of a species of gecko that was only known to science through subfossil records dated more than 5000 years old. Theyâd been living on the island in very low numbers for hundreds of years, but it was only once holistic restoration had taken place that they were able to increase their numbers to detectable levels.
MORE NEWS FROM THIS FAMOUS PLACE: 500 Giant Tortoises Reintroduced to Four Galapagos Islands in 2023
With a local population already establishing itself, chances are good for a successful reintroduction. Soon, itâs hoped, Floreanaâs grasslands will be home to a large, thriving colony of rails.
âIt gives us hope that there might be even more âextinctâ GalĂĄpagos species to find,â the statement read.""

Kimalu (KEE-ma-loo), a 12-year-old female beluga whale, is resting comfortably following a historic procedure at Chicago's Shedd Aquarium. On Tuesday, July 1, Kimalu, who was born at Shedd, underwent a first-of-its-kind surgery to remove a growing network of cysts near her blowhole on her head and neck. In the process, Kimalu became the first known beluga in the world to recover from general anesthesia. The surgery was supported by nearly 30 experts from Shedd and across the country in the fields of zoological medicine, surgery and anesthesia. Shedd's animal care and clinical experts are monitoring Kimalu around the clock as she remains behind the scenes to ensure her welfare and well-being during the recovery process. This entails addressing her utmost comfort with antibiotics, incision-site care, pain medicine, post-surgery nutrition and extra attention from her care team.

Jenin, West Bank, Update by RNN:
The wide scale zionist-PA joint aggression continues on Jenin and its refugee camp for the third consecutive day. The same images of displacement from Gaza repeat themselves in Jenin:

Fires broke out in homes within Tal'at Al-Ghabz near the camp, many turned by the IOF into military outposts.
Fires also engulfed homes in Al-Jabriyat and Mahyoub Street, further spreading to nearby civilian residences due to continued IOF attacks.
Serving the occupation, the treacherous Palestinian Authority arrested and assaulted fighters from the Jenin Brigade. (*media 2,3,4)
*media canât be shown due to its violent nature - media link
Despite all the repression, fierce clashes are ongoing between resistance fighters and the IOF.
Several injuries by IOF bullets were reported throughout the day and three from IOF attacks near Jalameh checkpoint were reported by the Palestinian Red Crescent.
Local sources reported clashes between Palestinian security forces and resistance fighters after the PA opened fire while pursuing resistance fighters in Yabad, southwest of Jenin.
Sources from Jenin Refugee Camp to Quds News Network:
Following an agreement between resistance fighters and the Palestinian Authority (PA) allowing PA security forces to enter the camp for a limited time, the resistance fighters decided to withdraw and disperse to various areas of Jenin. This decision was made to avoid potential betrayal by the PA, prevent their pursuit inside the camp, and to avoid bloodshed and deadly clashes should the PA attempt to arrest any of the fighters.
PA security leadership misled its personnel by claiming the agreement had been made with the resistance fighters. This move aimed to prevent PA members from leaking information to the resistance. However, with the launch of the "israeli" military operation, directives were issued for PA forces to monitor Jenin's villages and towns, including medical centers, village outskirts, abandoned homes, mosques, and the residences of former prisoners.
PA security forces intensified their operations in the rural areas of Jenin, arresting several resistance fighters. Simultaneously, the "israeli" military pursued resistance fighters within the camp, signaling a coordinated military operation involving "israel's" security, intelligence, and military apparatuses alongside PA security forces. The shared goal is to dismantle the resistance in Jenin. The key difference lies in rhetoric: while the occupation openly declares it is targeting resistance fighters, the PA labels them as "outlaws," "fugitives," and "Iranian mercenaries."
