thinking about how jason was disappointed by earth-51 bruce again. even though earth-51 was literally a utopia paradise all evil is dead the sun is shining the heroes are retired and living out happy lives. even though earth-51 bruce did exactly and precisely the act that jason wanted expected and needed his own bruce to do. earth-51 bruce killed the joker (with a gun!! good for him) and eradicated all evil and the world was demonstrably a better place for it.
and jason sees this bruce. this cold man who has shut everyone out. who is willing to prioritize winning over preserving human life. here he is jason. everything you've ever wanted. and jason reacts with disgust.

absolutely mind-boggling that i’m deeply obsessed with the idea of two characters, who haven’t canonically interacted in-universe since 2007, getting together. when they did interact, they didn’t even like each other. at all. but if the comic had been good, and not trying to push an insane love triangle, they could have grown to not despise each other!! their characters could have had such an interesting dynamic.
kyle, whose ability to feel things so deeply paints him as the sensitive artist and the bold-hearted hero. jason, whose ability to feel things so deeply curses him with a inescapably tragic narrative. kyle, who’s lost so many people that were dear to him. jason, who was ripped away from bruce, and robin, and life itself moved on without him. kyle, who became ion, the very creator of the narrative. jason, who haunts his own cyclical narrative with the ghost of a bloody little bird, never allowing him to move on.
kyle, who is externally suave and well-liked, avoids forming deep relationships for fear of another loss like alex, jennifer, or donna. jason, who is externally dark and off-putting, reached out desperately and violently for the people he felt abandoned him; he does not want to be alone. kyle, who is a horrible flirt. jason, who cannot flirt with people he actually likes. kyle, who finds escapism in art. jason, who finds escapism in literature. kyle, who can still be brash and inflammatory. jason, who wrote the book on the very subject.
kyle and jason, who are ruled by their hearts over their heads. kyle and jason, who love deeply. kyle and jason, who are the way they are because of what they lost. kyle and jason, who are individual tragedies. kyle and jason, who could heal each other or could tear each other apart.

Jaykyle enemies to lovers misunderstanding AU where they hatefuck once during Countdown to Final Crisis and part ways. Jason becomes Star Sapphire from a different mechanism than usual just because he's so powered by love, and forgets to mention it to just about everyone but Carol. Cue a very confused Kyle being accosted by a bunch of curious/angry bats and/or outlaws who think the reason why Jason's struggling with his power (his magic keeps exploding in his face) is because Kyle broke his heart. (It's not, Jason just needs to learn about self-love). Upon learning that, Kyle goes through three different crises in ten minutes and decides that while he still doesn't like Jason he has to "take responsibility" and "make this right" because he thinks Jason loved him and was being defensive of Kyle's hostility and he used and ditched him, so he decides to help Jason with his powers and resolve the situation. Eventually this is what they needed to give eachother a chance and they fall in love, but god does Jason laughs his ass off when he finally learns about the misunderstanding.

I think the first people who really start doubting the whole "Jason died because he was reckless" rhetoric are Donna Troy and Kyle Rayner.
It's kinda hard to really believe that when there's literal gods saying that his death was an actual cosmic mistake.
They wouldn't be too vocal about because Jason was an asshole, though.

So I've already made a post about it a while ago, but I have new arguments now.
The thing about Dick killing the Joker means nothing to Jason. Firstly, because it simply didn't stick, so the thing Jason's angry about - that his death meant nothing, didn't change anything - is still there. I would say he'd be even more angry - at Bruce for revieving Joker and at Dick for not trying again if he knew he could do it. (It's all from Jason's perspective, of course. If we look at it from Dick's pov, it's about being destroyed by taking a life, but also about Bruce taking away his autonomy... wtv, it's about Jason)
Now what I didn't think about before is what would be if Jiker actually stayed dead. Because we already saw Jason confronted with Bruce who killed Joker. And he was dissapointed. If earth 51 Bruce did what Jason wanted and yet still wasn't enough for him, what would Jason think if he saw Dick becoming a murderer and later being destroyed by his own morals? Dick wouldn't get lost in the same way as Bruce, but he would be destroyed by it. So. There really isn't anything good for Jason.
He's meant for tragedy. The Batfamily is meant for tragedy. They can never be what we want them to be. There just isn't a way for it.

Jason: Who wants to make fifty bucks? Kyle: How? Jason: I need someone to take the fall. Kyle: What did you do? Jason: I can't tell you. Yes or no, no questions asked. Donna, from the other room: Oh my god. Jason: … Donna: OH MY GOD! Kyle: Make it a hundred. Jason: Deal.
Still a better interaction than everything from the only time this trio actually existed in the comics

Something about Jason pretending to betray Donna & Kyle in order to save them and that immediately losing him all latent goodwill and trust Donna had been building up with him.
