Hello fellow horror fans and academics! I'm creating a course syllabus and I would like your help to make it more international. Please recommend any horror film NOT in English dealing with Questioning Reality (eg. paranoia, gaslighting, hallucinations, insanity) , Breaking Reality (eg. cosmic horror, possession) or Accepting Reality (eg. Trauma, Return of the Repressed). These can be from any country, decade and subgenre. I'm also accepting films that are not strictly horror but can be read through a horror lense in this context. I'm also accepting recommendations for journal articles or other scholarly texts.
Thank you!
(I'm very consciously using the term "insanity" here to differentiate real word mental illnesses from how film approaches mental illness as a source and agent of horror)

Understanding the Differences - “CPA vs. CMA vs. CFA”
Tumblr media
US CPA, CMA USA, & CFA are three of the most popular certification courses among students from the finance and accounting field. Although these certifications cater to different disciplines in accounting and finance, the difference lies in the respective certifying bodies, syllabi, and many other important aspects pertaining to each certification.
Overview of the major differences between CPA vs. CMA vs. CFA.
Certifying Body
CPA – CPA is offered by the AICPA and NASBA to individuals clearing the US CPA certification exam, which has four parts.
CMA USA – CMA is conferred upon individuals by the IMA (Institute of Management Accountants) upon clearing the CMA certification exam.
CFA – The CFA certification is given by the CFA Institute after clearing three levels of the CFA Program.
Duration of Course
CPA – US CPA can be passed in just one attempt within 12-18 months.
CMA – CMA USA can be completed in less than 12 months (often within nine months when you enroll at NSA) in just one attempt.
CFA – CFA requires 2-3 years to be completed.
Passing Criteria
CPA– 50% aggregate
CMA– 70% aggregate
CFA– 40-50%
Course fees
CPA– The total course fee of a US CPA in India is around INR 3 lakhs to INR 3.5 lakhs. This is further eligible for discounts.
CMA– The CMA USA course fee varies for students and working professionals. Students are required to pay around INR 85k, while working professionals are required to pay around INR 1.2 lakhs. Both these fee structures are eligible for further discounts.
CFA– The CFA course fee varies between INR 1.2 lakhs to INR 1.5 lakhs.
Salary:
CPA– The average annual salary of a CPA professional is around $82,000-$1,29,000.
CMA– The average annual salary of a USA CMA professional ranges between $76,000-$1,33,000
CFA– The salary of a CFA ranges between $1,26,000-$1,77,000.
There are many more such factors that differentiate the three professional credentials from one another, such as job titles, career scope, exam difficulty, availability of discounts on course fees, etc. To learn more about CPA vs. CMA vs. CFA in detail, click here.

Going to college as a nontraditional student with an office job is kinda funny bc now when a professor messes things up in a way that fucks me over instead of being like "omg this authority figure is so unfair 😭" I'm approaching it more with the vibe of like "if Karen from Accounting doesn't fix this mistake that's hindering my work after my third passive aggressive email I'm going to CC her boss"
#my professor has multiple things messed up on her online course that are actively preventing me from preparing for the midterm exam#1. the notes she uploaded for last weeks lesson are in an unviewable format (its a .bin file? she converted an image to binary code??)#2. she hasnt uploaded the content for this weeks lesson yet. and that content is going to be tested on the midterm#3. both her syllabus and the review guide she uploaded mention a pre-midterm test thats worth 2% of our grade#and i think is supposed to help us prepare. but she hasnt uploaded that or even mentioned it at all?#4. the exam itself isnt in blackboard yet. which wouldnt really be a cause for alarm if it was any other professor#i would just assume they were probably waiting to upload it until the day of the exam#but given everything else shes messed up so far im worried she messed something up with that too and it wont get uploaded at all#so. she said in the syllabus that we should message her directly in blackboard with any questions and she'll respond within 48 hours#but my first message was sent on friday. it is now tuesday#she said to send a follow up if she doesnt respond within 48 hours. i sent a follow up yesterday morning and she still hasnt responded#and im not going to wait another 48 hours when the exam is in 3 days and she still hasnt even uploaded the final lesson that will be on it#so. shes getting a text from me at the phone number she listed now like#if she doesnt respond to that within a few hours then i might call#and if she doesnt respond to THAT then im going to put it in an email and CC the head of her department or smth#bc we NEED to be able to prepare for the midterm. its THIS WEEK. some people are actually scheduled only TWO days from now#its already bullshit that shes including this lesson on the midterm when the due date for it is AFTER the exam#but then shes also THREE DAYS LATE (so far) uploading it??#AND she hasnt uploaded the pre-test or even mentioned it at all???#rambling#this professor is gonna get a BAD review from me man#its already bad enough that her online course is structured so poorly that its hard to even tell what we should be doing each week#and now this shit

Remember this? Well, you all got a sequel you never asked for.
Finally after 182 days of Duolingo, I have successfully completed the Chinese course (not including the Hanzi and Pinyin practices of course) and thus I must celebrate with this doodle.
还是, 哈哈。One's language learning journey doesn't stop here...

hot take: if you don’t list physical activity as a requirement in your syllabus, you should not be able to make your students do it. even if they can speak to you to opt out, you should not be able to do that. because no one should have to fucking explain their disability or health issues or whatever to you for the sake of one singular assignment that you made up yesterday for a writing class. hot fucking take apparently.

I keep meaning to do another set of these only with academic tweets, but I think the academic tweets would be funnier with pics of the Marlowe version and I am too lazy to make screencaps (the vast majority of images out there are gifs and idk how to paste things on gifs).
Anyway, here's one that definitely works better in the Goetheverse.

how to phrase "you missed seven classes which is 25% of the course and that's why you didn't get an A in the class even though your written work was good" in a way that won't come back to bite me in the ass

I've talked about this before, but I firmly believe professors who spend part of their career/life outside of academia, make better instructors overall. The irony of my ex-military, ex fuckin intel officers turned professors, were way more understanding of students complexities, nuances, and shortcomings versus any of my Creative writing/English professors is amusing. Not only were they more encouraging, but I always felt so secure in coming to them with an issue and they'd be like 'shit happens, do what you need to do, glad you're here.' I think fundamentally when you come from environments where you have to adapt, where you have to have the flexibility to deal with a million and one factors and personalities so to speak, you offer a better environment to cultivate learning.
I think throughout my entire creative writing minor, I only had two, maybe three professors who I *actually* enjoyed, and one of them was a screenwriting professor who had worked in the film industry, which supports my theory. But most of them had been in their position for 20 something years, and/or adjuncts freshly graduated without a lot of outside experience and I had to jump through a million hoops and passive aggressiveness for the most basic questions, or just to outright tell me 'too bad' for any minor request.
So yeah, I guess the thesis is to live more outside your bubble... Learn how to work with different people and give 'em a bit of compassion.

I’m still a little nervous about teaching again for the first time in a long time but I’m also feeling really optimistic about this summer class!! I think for whatever reason I tend to overestimate both how equipped students are to do research and how prepared their mentors are to provide a well-structured experience for them. but as I’ve been talking with students and mentors and reading the students’ pre-summer survey results I’m like ohhh wait that’s right most people do NOT have good systems for managing this kind of work and even a little bit of extra support around stuff like project management and communicating with your mentor goes a LONG way. and if you offer even more structure and guidance you can really have a HUGE impact on students’ learning. so I have decided that moving forward I will choose to feel confident that I will have something valuable to offer these students.
