Saw the first two episodes of creature commandos and here are my thoughts, sopilers below!:
●The idea of Circe manipulating a bunch of mysoginist wackos into storming a country is hilarious and somehow very topical
●It's clear that the amazons in the broadcast aren't the real deal and just male gaze
●I'm really liking the main cast, Gunn is great at making groups of outcasts that join by happenstance
●I'm 90% sure the princess is Clayface and tricking Flagg, that or she is manipulating Flagg
●I hope the Victor thing is adressed, i think the flashbacks as a whole are great and Eric's entiltlement (and the sons of themys-whatever) can be a throughline across the series
●But also what Victor did is fucking inmoral, because he is like her dad... and thats like grooming... but i trust Gunn enough to first show us the rose tinted glasses version and slowly showing us how it wasn't alright chief
●The animation and coreography is gorgeous
●Wait... why was Nanaue in task force X and not in task force M?
Overal an 8/10, but i think once it picks up steam it will be another great Gunn project.

So there’s that new cartoon inspired by the Creature Commandos. Accuracies to the original aside, it inspired me to look their real counterparts. The team was interesting enough, but I am confused. Their entry in the encyclopedia I read cited they were empowered as a part of “Project M.” But also in the book it noted that a more traditional cape called Miss America was empowered by that project. What exactly was Project M, and why was Miss America a superhero, while the Commandos were sent to fight in WWII? Was it as simple as she looked less inhuman? My apologies for my ignorance, but I am curious about the nature of this WWII initiative, assuming I haven’t read a fictional account.
Project M was a head scratcher for a long time because we didn't have a lot of information on it that wasn't either fully classified or so redacted to the point of uselessness. In the modern day though a LOT of things have been dragged out of the shadows due to a FLURRY of freedom of information requests coming hot on the heels of the Create Commandos show that have fully framed events for us in a way we've never had before.
Hell some of the information WAS out in the open but took time, interest and ability to sort through decades old undigitized records to find.
And it allll started to unravel due to a miscalculation made about Manhattan born reporter Joan Dale.

(An image of Dale, as Ms America from an illustrated war bond booklet)
During a seemingly normal night Dale received a vision from the Statue of Liberty granting her superhuman abilities to fight crime and battle evil. At least that's what she remembered when she woke up. Indeed she awoke with inexplicable powers to alter matter on a molecular level, changing materials and even the shapes of objects but only at a limited size and time.
In reality she had been abducted as a trial run for the mysterious Project M. Established by a group within the Defense Department who saw US involvement in WWII as inevitable by early 1941 (fair enough) they created a secret research group to develop advanced means of psychological warfare (ok...) via the mutation of human subjects into monstrous figures that could be turned against the German war machine (THERE it goes, right off the rails)
Dale had been abducted seemingly at random in order to undergo their hypothetical treatment but because her outward appearance didn't change she was doped up with enough psychedelics to make certain she didn't remember any details and then left where she had been found. The experiments of Project M continued on afterwards and eventually created both the Creature Commandos and the robotic soldier known as GI Robot.
Dale, meanwhile would make her debut as Ms America, joining up with the All Star Squadron and the original Freedom Fighters a group that tried to prevent the Pearl Harbor attacks in December of 1941. While she was for a time assumed dead in the doomed assault she was in fact 'reclaimed' by Project M having discovered their original experiment had been a success beyond their wildest dreams trying to find the secret to Dale's alchemical powers.
Several months later she would return to lucidity when Robotman and the Young All Stars discovered her in Project M custody and she awoke to help turn the tide in a battle with the Ultra-Humanite. Needless to say her secretive captivity was...NOT appreciated by her teammates and friends, their chilled and threatening reaction to Project M's GROSS overreach of authority is cited as part of the reason the Creature Commandos were hidden from the Squadron (you know, because the Squadron would have called the army on said gross overreach of authority and ethical violations).
She survived the war, married, adopted a daughter who would eventually become the superheroine Fury and in the modern day has returned to semi-active duty as a member of the Freedom Fighters. I'm given to believe that some kind of cosmic shenanigan has kept her relatively youthful.
Project M, like Checkmate, like Task Force X, like any other organization of its kind you care to name was what they all are a scrambling claw by the traditional authorities attempting to weaponize metahumanity at large through traditional power structures. Like with any other organization of their kind they almost instantly fell into deep moral negligence and regular people paid the price for it. The fact that Dale was not among them is only due to the incompetence of that organization AND the quick thinking, fortune and loyal fortitude of her friends and comrades.

Really like the idea of the Creature Commandos being friends before being assigned to Task Force M and just having a united front against Rick and Rick not really knowing what to do about it. But it's even funnier for them to have a pre-established dynamic and still just not like each other very much.
Anyway, this led to me hyperfixating and writing about 20K in three days for two different fics. Both are soulmate AUs, the first purely platonic and the second one up to interpretation.
This first one uses the soulmark at first contact trope. Plays with that idea of having an established dynamic but still not liking each other. They have to learn to be a family!
This second one uses the shared pain trope, which really means something when the majority of the group was mutated against their will.
Check them out if you're interested!

While I do think that Creature Commandos is one of the better DC animated projects to come out this year, the writing is super questionable.
It's pretty obvious that Rick Flag Sr is only in this because Gunn regrets killing the character off in The Suicide Squad, as he's basically just an older version of the character that was featured in that film.
Frankenstein's monster's obsession with The Bride is pretty cringe inducing, which I get is the point, but it's kind of annoying how a character with so much potential is just reduced to a single running gag.
Also, if Waller wants to prevent the bad future from happening, then why didn't she blackmail Circe into joining Task Force M? Isn't blackmailing supervillains into doing her dirty work her entire mission statement?
Waller not blackmailing Circe into helping kill the princess after Flag went AWOL just feels out of character.
Still, it feels great watching a DC animated show with top tier animation, so there's that.

I’m curious as to how Creature Commandos S2 will work. The show’s format has each episode’s events being intercut with the backstory of its starring character, and we have Nosferata and Khalis to account for two of these episodes. We can probably count on Nanaue as well; We’ve seen him before, but in The Suicide Squad his backstory was never really explained. I can easily see CC being Gunn’s opportunity to delve into that, so there’s three episodes.
I dunno if S2 will have the same amount of episodes as S1 or more, but that’s still less than half of the run. So what will the other episodes be like? Will we just ditch the backstory format for some of them? Or will we revisit the past of characters who already had backstories shown, but still have other parts of their life to explore? Such as Weasel’s origins, like what even IS he. Or how the Bride ended up in prison.
Personally my HC is that the Bride intentionally got herself trapped in Belle Reve, because she knew it was a place secure enough to handle all variety of supervillains; Meaning it could feasibly keep Eric away from her. Granted, she seems quite ready to kill Waller and/or Flag on sight, which suggests she was forcibly placed. But then she seems to already know she’s being used for black ops and is being coerced, so being salty over that could explain the Bride’s reaction; And it’s justified when said mission causes Eric to find her.
That’s the other scary consideration for S2; Eric knows where the Bride is. Whatever mission she does, she’ll have to go back to Belle Reve, and Eric can wait for her there. But then again it is Belle Reve, so maybe he knows he can’t touch the Bride there. You know what’d be horrible? If Waller got her hands on Eric and detained him in Belle Reve, using promises of reuniting him with the Bride. If that happened the Bride would just go ballistic.
I also wonder how Gunn is going to balance the cast because in S1 we had six members for Task Force M; In S2, we’re projected for eight. But I also know that Rick Flag Sr. is going to be in Peacemaker S2. And so to get speculative… Maybe he’ll have a minor role in CC S2? Because think about it; If he’s going to have another spotlight soon, Gunn might put him on the back burner for S2 to make room for the expanded roster.
We’ve already established that the squad can operate without Flag, and Waller is comfortable with letting them do so because the Bride has proven herself to be another Deadshot; Just as much of a coerced super as the others, but someone Waller can count on to keep the rest in line. And after Flag almost caused WW3 because he couldn’t keep it in his pants, I could see Waller being skeptical about letting him back on.
Plus, like. Peacemaker S2 is likely going to have Flag Sr. learn the circumstances of how his son really died from Chris. Which means he’s probably going to learn that Waller betrayed him. And depending on his reaction that could also account for an absence in CC S2.
But yeah; My speculation right now is that Flag might not even be in S2, or it’ll be a reduced role to accommodate the new additions, while building off of what happens in Peacemaker S2. We’ll get three episodes about Nosferata, Khalis, and Nanaue, and maybe a fourth delving further into Weasel’s origins, and a fifth about how the Bride ended up at Belle Reve. Of course that leaves us with two episodes without backstories but we’ll just see, maybe one of them will be dedicated to the new antagonist(s). What if we see Circe again and she’s forced to work for Task Force M? But then again, the roster might get too large.
Maybe she works with Eric given their adversarial past with the Creature Commandos. Which could segue into Eric trying to get to the Bride at Belle Reve, which could end in a S2 cliffhanger where he’s actually detained there; Maybe the twist is Eric realizing he doesn’t need to fight his way through, just offer himself to Waller, who realizes she can play Eric and the Bride against one another. Promise Eric what he wants while threatening the Bride with him if she doesn’t listen because it’s Waller, obviously. Eugh.

- The Sacred Timeline -
While I've added some DC muses, and I will have their canon timelines as THEIR main verse (asks will be DC based unless otherwise indicated); I will also be including them in my Sacred timeline verse because I like having a space for comic muses to interact all together. Figured I should update details on that front. Keep in mind that this is loosely taped together. It's for fun, plot-holes be damned.
Under cut explains the current state of the sacred timeline, how everyone got where they are and what they're doing in that verse currently. If you're interested in one specific character then just scroll 'til you find their icon.
THIS IS A LONG POST - fair warning!
Overarching note: This verse diverges from the s1 ending of X-Men '97, as the group aren't pulled through time post Asteroid-M.
Other writers in this verse: @ficklefables + @biblicallyaccuratemcu - their characters will be underlined with a link to their blogs.
Until we're certain about how Creature Commandos ends, the DC timeline diverges after their first mission to Pokolistan. They're returned to Belle Reve until the next mission, that next mission includes both King Shark and Ratcatcher 2 as new team members - Ratcatcher 2 is there voluntarily to work alongside her friend. This is when Cable (motivated by his connection with GI Robot - who he repaired from scraps) steps in and EMP's the group, taking the commandos back to the mansion to give them a safe place and freedom. Rick is aware of where they are but doesn't want to risk an incident with the mutant community, just outright attacking the X-Mansion wouldn't exactly go down well after all. He has mixed feelings on the matter as he is fond of the commandos but he doesn't trust them not to cause trouble, they were imprisoned for a reason after all.
Cable ends up sticking around after Asteroid-M, slowly repairing his arm and recovering from the fight. Wade shows up in the aftermath, looking for somewhere to look after his daughters: Ellie - who he stole from SHIELD custody and Princess, a stray creature with no where else to go. After causing problems, Cable and Colossus take him away to cool off and take the time to figure out how to best handle his self-destructive outbursts. Currently the three are still dancing around their feelings but have moved back into the mansion, bringing Wade with them - however he must be under constant supervision. Nathan has also taken in two robots as 'sons', GI Robot and KeVRiC (K-VRC - originally from Love, Death & Robots). The former was found as scraps in the future, repaired slowly as a hobby project, instead he ended up with a son he's taken to live at the mansion with him. The latter was found in an apocalyptic timeline, he's a robot babysitter with no children to babysit and thus, he was also brought back to the mansion and found his place as Nathan's second son - and big brother to all the younger kids of the mansion. Motivated by GI Robot's affection for his incarcerated friends, Cable intervenes and bring the Creature Commandos to the mansion too, ensuring their safety by disabling the devices made to track and punish them. He isn't a fan of Rick, given his 'official' attitude about the whole matter.
Comes to the Mansion in Cable's absence (while he was on a mission in the future alongside his younger self) and pretends to be him, wanting to understand him - what better way to defeat him than to know everything? Instead he's shocked by how everyone… LIKES CABLE? He ends up furious and baffled, given he's the SUPERIOR man between the two of them. Smarter. More interesting. More POWERFUL. Unfortunately upon his return, Cable confronts him with an ultimatum, Stryfe doesn't attack because he doesn't want to draw attention to the situation and risk hurting his parents. He's told that he has to come clean about who he is. Much to both Cable's and his own surprise, he's given a chance to stay and eventually become one of the X-Men. He's integrating well enough, though often feels out of place and struggles to make connections with others. That's not helped by him refusing to stop wearing his armor, which absolutely makes him look like a bad guy.
It took time for the mansion to be rebuilt but once it was finally back together Kurt moved in and officially became one of the X-men. Admiring the charge that Scott took during the big fight on asteroid M, Kurt endeavored to get to know Cyclops better - slowly but surely the two became more intimate, becoming boyfriends. Kurt is aware Scott is also seeing Bucky, he is fine with this and is looking forward to meeting this mystery man - with the likelihood in the future of them becoming partners too. After recently finding out his mother Mystique has been hiding at the mansion, pretending to be others to see if she might have a space to stay, he's convinced her to stick around but others only know her to be a random shapeshifter that joined the ranks. Only Scott knows the truth (outside of Charles and Magnus) and he has been urging Kurt to tell Rogue and eventually the others. Recently he brought his Bamfs to the mansion, accidentally letting them run amok while he stepped away for some time. Scott now knows his boyfriend has these impish little guys but has no idea what they actually are.
After the Mansion is rebuilt there was a certain tension in Morph, nearly facing the end of everything really put things in perspective and they desperately wanted to tell Logan how they felt. Scott, noticing this, pushed for answers and then pushed for them to tell him. Unfortunately (or fortunately) a well-placed rant to themself was caught out by Logan, pushing them to admit their feelings. Now the two are together but they're keeping it under wraps - purely because it's more fun being sneaky, there is no shame involved. The only ones that officially know about them are Scott and Cable, who only found out as his dad accidentally spilled that secret.
After the events of Asteroid M it took quite some work to keep trouble away from Magnus, who joined him in the newly rebuilt mansion. Much of his time was spent working on that, as well as his usual work for Mutant rights. It's a tired conversation between Magnus and Charles that leads to them figuring out their affections are requited, both lament taking so long to figure it out but are quite happily partners now. They ground eachother, with Magnus keeping Charles from working himself into an early grave, and Charles helping Magnus when he feels he is struggling with the things he has done in the past - or things that were done to him. More recently they've become engaged, as teasing remarks between them suddenly became far more serious than expected, resulting in Magnus proposing. They're both very happy.
Unfortunately he lost many of his friends in the attack on Genosha, which is something he has blocked out, instead he's focused on integrating into the family life of the mansion after being brought there by Magneto. For a while he was too nervous to make contact with them, becoming a bit of a story around the mansion as the 'ghost'. They were just starstruck. Recently everyone became aware of them after they jumped out at people as a ghost on halloween, Logan caught him and finally told everyone what was going on. Now he's slowly integrating into mansion life.
Most of his story is the same but his home universe is that of X-Men '97, meaning he saw the events of the Prime Sentinels and witnessed the planetary blackout. He sides with Mutants, being a fierce ally to their cause and very vocal about his support of mutant rights.
Has yet to meet anyone except Nightcrawler, the two are loosely friends. Obviously John supports mutants and would happily assist the X-Men, should they ever need it, he's mostly doing his own thing.

Weekend Top Ten #665
Top Ten DCEU Films (and One TV Programme)
Yay, I’m getting back to doing a simple list of films! I kind of prefer it when I just rank films; I feel I can speak a bit more knowledgably about it, get my thoughts across better. Even if I don’t think the lists themselves are quite as inspired, maybe, as when I ranked my favourite eggs. It is what it is.
Anyway, there is – sort of – a thematic reasoning going on here. Because this coming week sees the release of Creature Commandos, officially the first project from the new DC Studios, headed by James Gunn and Peter Safran. This brand-new DCU will have a brand-new continuity of shared movies and TV programmes, and whilst things will really kick off next summer with the release of Gunn’s Superman (squee!), Commandos is the first proper glimpse we get into that universe. Now, I said “sort of” there because I don’t think Creature Commandos is actually going to be on British TV screens before Christmas; presumably it’ll end up on Sky like most other Warner Bros-affiliated shows, but there’s not been a sniff of a release date as of yet. However, I’m still going with it, especially as I only caught up on the last couple of DC movies fairly recently.
I say movies, but – as those of you who read the title will have guessed – I’m also including the one TV project set within the DCEU. I pondered its inclusion, whether to stick to films or not, but as it’s just one season of one show and the universe is – technically – over, I decided it was worth sticking in there. It is, after all, absolutely excellent (spoiler alert), so not featuring it felt weird and arbitrary. Words that can never be applied to any decision I make regarding these lists. Ahem.
I think, on the incredibly rare possibility that this list is widely-read, the shocking discovery will be the utter absence of any of Zack Snyder’s films. Snyder was the one who started the whole kit and kaboodle, and it was his tone, his aesthetic, his overall idea for the “spine” of the DCEU, that shaped its early years – for better or for worse. In my opinion, the core elements not just of individual characters but of the entire DC comics universe is so at odds with his personal flavour, I just can’t get on with his films. Like, at all. Man of Steel has some nice ideas and a really good grounded style, but it’s so miserable, so utterly un-wonderful, that it runs antithetical to everything I think about Superman as a character. It also has the same odd structural problems and pacing issues that all of his films have. Batman v Superman gives us some great comics-esque Batman fight sequences, and a really interesting take on Lex Luthor, but pisses it all away with edgelord grimdark 14-year-old-who-listens-to-Korn sensibilities (nothing wrong with Korn, by the way; maybe I should have said “Nick Cave” to show I wasn’t punching down but across). It’s the sort of supposedly hard-edged “kill the baby” thinking that you believe is mature and sophisticated as a teenager, before you realise that it’s just another form of childishness; it’s why I can’t get along with the majority of Mark Millar’s work. It’s using “darkness” as a substitute for “depth”, and that’s a fallacy. The two versions of Justice League both manage to be dreadful in entirely different ways; Snyder’s is technically “better” for the most part but it’s long and depressing, whereas Whedon’s is lighter and looser but basically feels like the pilot for a Justice League TV series, with TV-level visuals for the most part. But it doesn’t have that godawful black Superman suit, so probably on the whole I prefer it, even if it was apparently horrendously toxic to make.
Where were we?
Oh yeah, I was supposed to be celebrating instead of slagging off. Because all ten of these films (cough-nine-and-one-telly-cough) are genuinely good. Yes, good; not all of them are great, but most of them are very good. The DCEU did indeed achieve greatness, as hopefully I will convince you of momentarily; but on the whole most of their films were “okay!” or “better than you’d think!”. The two Aquaman films embody this most heartily I feel; they’re super-enjoyable to watch, utterly bananas, but I think if you were to recommend them to anyone you’d have to caveat them quite a bit.
In the end, I feel like the DCEU overcame a really tough stumble right out of the gates, in the face of entrenched opposition at the height of its powers (that’s the MCU, in case you hadn’t guessed), and with a revolving door of executives who seemed to want different things from their DC “properties”. Despite all of this, and despite lacking the clear guided direction that Marvel had from the start, they produced some absolute gems. From Diana discovering her powers to Harley discovering a sandwich, there was greatness here.
That black suit though. Ugh.
Wonder Woman (2017): I would argue this is the only no-holds-barred unqualified success of the DCEU; the only film that scratches at five stars (on rewatches, I think the flaky ending dips it just short of masterpiece status). But the way Patty Jenkins crafts both the idyllic Themiscarian opening and the grit and grime of WWI is terrific; and the two leads are frankly outstanding. Gadot is adept at both the fish-out-of-water stuff and also being an all-conquering badass; Pine is effortlessly charming. When all else fades away, let’s remember this movie above all as an indication of what the DCEU could have been.
Peacemaker (2022): yep, here we go, I’m sticking one show in and it’s almost right at the top. As Marvel themselves have found, crafting a superhero TV show is tricky; Peacemaker avoids almost every trap. Each episode feels distinct with its own arc, but it also builds somewhere. There is oodles of character development and growth, and James Gunn does his usual schtick of giving us a bunch of divs and then slowly eking out their foibles until we fall in love. It’s dark, it’s vulgar, it’s violent, but it’s overflowing with heart, and it’s full of tremendous performances to boot.
The Suicide Squad (2021): Gunn is back again – which bodes well for the future of DC on screen, I guess. From the bombastic and outrageously violent opening onwards, we – once again – follow a group of bickering bell-ends until they turn into outright heroes and we love them to bits. The use of comedy makes the moments of misery and tragedy all the more redolent, and it makes absolutely superb use of DC lore.
Birds of Prey (2020): I genuinely don’t know what this is officially called now, so I’m going to skip any subtitles – you all know what film I mean. And this one is a gonzo delight; gritty, to a certain degree, but mostly just a wild and exuberant night out. Margot Robbie is outstanding as Harley, imbuing her with heart and warmth as well as an extravagant, violent mania; the rest of the Birds are well-cast with some standouts (Jolee Smollett as Black Canary should be brought back). It’s also incredibly funny.
Blue Beetle (2023): there’s no reason this should be as good as it is, but it manages to be the closest DC came to their own Spider-Man; Xolo Maridueña is terrific in the lead, and he’s apparently going to keep playing the character in the new DCU, so that’s good. But here we’ve got a fast-paced and funny young superhero origin, plus some cool action, and – again – great use of DC comics history.
Aquaman (2018): this one could have been tremendous, but it’s also a bit woolly and far too long. Discard all that, though, and you get an utterly madcap, bonkers thrill ride through an underwater kingdom that’s like nothing we’ve seen before. The visuals and imagination on display here are hilarious: this is a film which features an army of crab men, a mermaid girl in a mech suit, and Julie Andrews as a kaiju. And an octopus playing the drums. What’s not to love?
Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom (2023): suffers a bit next to its predecessor but is still a blast. The balance between character work and basically being a Saturday morning cartoon maybe skews too far one way; but Momoa in the lead and Patrick Wilson as brother/rival Orm are both great, and bounce off each other in fun ways. It’s even woollier than the first but there’s still something good beneath the CG surface.
The Flash (2023): I went into this one full of pessimism, mostly due to the off-screen complications and controversies. But, to be honest, it almost – almost – soars: Barry’s motivations and character are clearly outlined, and the potentially-complicated plot is concisely and entertainingly laid out. But once they bring out the big Bat-Guns, it starts to wobble; we lose sight of the funny centre of the film, and the whole mutliversal stuff that tops it off feels unearned and – frankly – really ugly to look at. So much potential, such a shame; but considering the hurdle it had to leap, it’s still damn good fun for most of its runtime.
Black Adam (2021): a film of two halves: there’s a weird twist on the fish-out-of-water genre with His Rockness as a taciturn and grumpy anti-hero. This is lacklustre; the Rock’s natural chemistry is smothered by trying to be this grim avenger. But! The Justice Society stuff is a goddamn hoot. When that team are on screen, it sings; more of them, please.
Wonder Woman 1984 (2020): ah, god. The first film was stunning. This, sadly, struggles to find its identity and focus. The plot is woollier than an Edinburgh clothes shop; the MacGuffin is oddly defined; no one’s motivations make any sense. Frankly there aren’t enough cool action scenes. And what on Earth were they thinking with the whole “it’s Steve but not Steve really it’s some bloke” idea? The fact that it remains pretty enjoyable, that there’s enough to root for, is down once more to the chemistry of the leads and Jenkins’ assured way of handling a set piece. It’s okay. But it could have been so much more.
There we are; by number ten we’re already getting into “yeah I guess” territory. I feel a bit mean to Shazam!, which had a lot of fun moments and characters, but I’m not really in a mood to say nice things about Zachary Levi right now (and, genuinely, he’s the weak link in its sequel, with all the charisma and fun instead carried by Adam Brody). Also – sincerely – I think the tone of the film is weird, half kid-friendly comedy, half dark mystical drama.
But look: there was lots to like here. An octopus played the drums, people! What more do you want?!

Bio
By 1941, Europe had already been fiercely embroiled in the Second World War. It was only a matter of time before America would be forced to recognize the atrocities of Nazi Germany and commit itself to the Allied cause. The United States government collaborated with all branches of the armed forces to create a special program specializing in psychological warfare. Their program became known in covert circles as Project M.
Early in WWII, Pvt. Warren Griffith was wounded and hospitalized, and diagnosed with Lycanthropy, a hallucinatory belief that he at times was transformed into a wolf. Pvt. Griffith was experimented upon by Doctor Mazursky's team of surgeons and other specialists at Project M, and was artificially turned into an almost-actual werewolf.
Pvt. Griffith served in an experimental commando unit known as the Creature Commandos, alongside two other surgically-altered soldiers, Sgt. Vincent Velcro and Pvt. Elliot "Lucky" Taylor, under the command of Lt. Matthew Shrieve.
40 years later, Warren's grandson was born. William Warren "Will" Griffith inherited the same condition as his father and grandfater-- lycanthropy. Like hi father and grandfather before him, Will joined the US army at the age of 18. His condition was already known to the military, and it wasn't long before he too joined in with Project M. It was there that he ran into fellow soldier Rick Flagg, eventually becoming his best friend and confidant.

Whether it’s soul marks, red strings of fate, or the Goose of Enforcement, Steve and Bucky are fated to be together. Below are my Top 5 Favorites:
“For Words to Say it Right” (T, 25k) by Squeaky and Taste_is_Sweet
Turns out when you're missing an arm, everyone asks are you okay? all the damn time. And when your soulmark is one of the most common questions in English, it's even worse.
+ Modern AU. Sometimes the universe gives second chances. And third chances. And so on, until you finally get it. Absolutely stunning story
-☆-
“This Feeling We Carry In Our Souls” (T, 26k) by jinlinli
Bucky hasn’t seen his own soul mark in seven years, not since a doctor sawed off his left arm to save his life. So it’s a little bit of a shock when he walks into Stark Tower and sees at least a dozen people with his soul mark proudly emblazoned on their skin.
And that’s how Bucky finds out he’s soulmates with Captain fucking America.
+ Shrunkyclunks. Can you recognize your soulmate without seeing their mark?
-☆-
“ties that bind” (M, 15k) by wearing_tearing
Steve takes a step forward and is proud when his voice only shakes a little when he asks, “Do you know who I am?”
Bucky blinks, and then his mouth twitches up in a crooked smile. “I know you are mine.”
Between them, the first knot on their red string comes untangled.
+ TFA to post WS. The serum lets Steve see Red Strings of Fate and Project Insight goes very differently
-☆-
“Wild Goose Chase” (T, 4k) by layersofsilence
Steve had always wondered why it was geese - loud, annoying, generally unromantic creatures - which were the animals that led humans to their soulmates. He’d always thought that a more romantic creature would make more sense: a dove, a lovebird, maybe something delicate and soft like a deer.
Well, now he knew why it was geese: there was no escaping a goose. They were the peak of evolution when it came to harassing people into going places. They were fucking annoying.
+Pre TFA. Soulmate geese don’t give a shit about homophobia
-☆-
“sidereal” (M, 67k) by girlbookwrm, art by verbalatte
“…The modern viewer must remember that prior to the 1960s, soulmark portraits were the ultimate in taboo. But one can see how an artist like Captain Rogers would feel compelled to pick up his sketchbook…
...Captain Rogers never did a self-portrait; we can only speculate who his soulmate — or soulmates — might have been."
Franklin, Hannah. “Howling Commandos Leave their Mark in Portrait Series by Captain America.” Newsweek, July 9, 2009.
+ TFA to Infinity War. Steve may be compatible with the commandos and the avengers, but his true mate is always Bucky
-☆-

Can you tell us anything about the Creature Commandos? I read a brief blurb about them in a book of "Weird War Tales" with other stuff like the GI Robot and the Boy Commandos, but trying to google anything on them just leads to debates as to whether or not they were actually supernatural or some kind of science project.
Oh dammit, James Gunn's little Inglorious Bastards-esque cartoon just came out didn't it? Jokes on you guys though, I actually ordered and read the appropriate books ahead of time! You're not slick!/s
Thank you for providing the image for this one so I don't have to go looking for it. (I truly hope you did not watch the old TV movie this was made for though. My god this poster it the best part of it)
To answer the most pressing question, they're a science experiment. Buckle in because if you thought your opinion of the US Army could not get any lower!
The Creature Commandos were formed in 1941 under the auspices of an outfit known as Project M which was the pot the US Army threw money into with the expectation it would use them to come up with super weapons to end the Nazi threat with no oversight or ethical constraint. They were responsible for the construction of G.I Robot as you mentioned and one of their failed experiments even granted New York native Joan Dale the powers she would use to become Miss America.
The Commandos specifically were the brainchild of one Dr. Myron Mazurksy, a real mad scientist type with the pet theory that the tales of monsters and ghouls making up the bulk of human mythology were the triggers for an kind of evolutionary fear, his hypothesis was that altering subjects through chemical and surgical methods to resemble these monsters of legend would give them an edge on the battlefield. (Of course we know now that these stories are not psychological misinterpretations at all but instead tales of actual beings that really do exist)
The Creature Commandos were made up of four founding members:
Private Warren Griffith was diagnosed with psychological lycanthropy and so was remanded into Project M's custody where he was surgically altered into and actual wolf man with very little conscious control of the time of his painful metamorphosis. He had committed no crime other than being considered psychologically unfit for service.
Pilot Officer Vincent Velcoro, a member of the Royal Air Force convicted of high treason for striking a well connected superior officer. Remanded into American custody without any due process under British military law he was given the choice of a 30 year sentence or experimentation which turned him into a human vampire, forced to drink blood at least once a day and only able to stomach consuming raw meat.
Private Elliot "Lucky" Taylor, a newly minted marine who was nearly killed by a land mine during a war gaming exercise. Surgically reconstructed by Project M his vocal cords were severed by the procedure, his family was told he was KIA and Taylor himself was never consulted about the procedure nor was he allowed to leave after the fact. Again he had committed no crime and was not even unfit for service, simply fed into the mill for the sake of "progress"
and Dr Myrra Rhodes who, when operating upon a wounded soldier within Project M's compound was mutated by a poorly secured batch of mutagen chemicals, transformed into a living medusa. She was also unable to leave military custody and was listed as KIA, losing her entire life due to Project M's negligence.
They were placed under the command of one Lieutenant Matt Shrieve who noted in his later unearthed war journal a personal loathing for his "freakish" subordinates whom he treated with inhuman disdain. Providing for their needs only reluctantly and below the standards of what they would have received in a brig back home. They were sent on what were, frankly, suicide missions, managing to survive time and again based on good luck and the members' trust in one another above all.
A truly demonstrative directive, unearthed by a freedom of information request submitted by their families well after the fact showed that the Creature Commandos were under command from the highest echelon that their existence be kept an absolute secret from the All Star Squadron or any of its members. A personal note, written by a redacted command officer at the bottom of the ledger opines
"The long underwear freaks would just get their bleeding hearts in a twist anyway."
Meaning that the army specifically kept the Commandos a secret from the Squadron, KNOWING that the Squadron would object to the less than human conditions and expectations of the Commandos and most likely would have seen to their emancipation under Squadron protection.
As the war drew to a close, the Commandos were marked for execution by firing squad. No trial or crime was ever given as reason. "Spared" from execution they were sent in a rocket toward the then ongoing battle of Berlin to do some final "good" or die trying.
Their presence is not noted at the battle and their bodies, or indeed their trails have never been found. Make of that what you will.

Project M is a secret government organization which began during World War II and specializes in experimental biotechnology and necromancy. Known creations of the Project beside the Creature Commandos include Miss America and the G.I. Robot. They first appear in Weird War Tales #93 (August 14, 1980). The Project's main scientist is one Professor Mazursky. He was aided by Robert Crane. They operated from a secret underground complex on mythical Ferris Island in New York. In 1942, Project M created the Creature Commandos. They were: Lt. Matthew Shrieve (a normal human), Warren Griffith (a werewolf), Sgt. Vincent Velcro (a vampire), Pvt. Elliot "Lucky" Taylor (Frankenstein's monster) and Dr. Myrna Rhodes (a gorgon). Project M yielded other interesting specimens. Most notably, they were behind the creation of the heroine, Miss America. Prof. Mazursky kidnapped her after his original subject perished. At first, his experiments appeared to have left her incapacitated. He later returned her unconscious form to the surface world. After that, she began a career as a masked heroine but was critically injured while fighting alongside the Freedom Fighters. Project M recovered her and nursed her back to health. While there, Project M was visited by the Young All-Stars, who had discovered that Project M had been infiltrated. A criminal named Deathbolt was there seeking a new physical host for the disembodied brain of the Ultra-Humanite. The Ultra-Humanite took over the body of a dinosaur recovered from Dinosaur Island.

MUSE FACTS collection from old blogs .
some small jo facts:
she runs away whenever people become too important to her. she fears that she’ll ruin them or hurt them? she’s not above cheating tbh like if she’s upset, she’ll take comfort in anyone’s arms. she’s just a really sensual girl who enjoys intimacy and nsfw things??
Jo as a child was actually really emotionless . She was a perfect little soldier , never questioned her father’s orders . He’d aim a gun , she’d pull the trigger . No remorse , no hesitation was his teachings whenever it took to her job as a hunter . It wasn’t until after she started inheriting her grandmother’s machines that her soul began to fracture under the stress , causing her personality to warp and an almost dual-persona appear . Jo is a very carefree type of girl when her sister is alive . She’s able to be the brat of the family that blows off responsibilities because Ruth takes care of the household ? And all she gotta do is care for the siblings which she’s happy to do . They’re already wealthy so Jo basically works for free at a lot of places because she just ?? loves helping people After Ruth’s death , jo becomes more cautious . She becomes very defensive and a tad overbearing to her sisters ( because they’re all she has left ) . She matures quickly , much like she once was when she was a child . Her emotions are contained and her personal issues are hidden beneath a calm veil . She’s strict with the girls and pushes them to pursue education and every other dream they have .
frankie fun fact . his main chara song that I found would have to be “fools” by troye sivan .
because I can’t remember if I’ve made an official post about Jo’s verses or not , I’ll make one now . For DGM , there are 3 options : exorcist , neutral , noah .
for her exorcist verse , Jo may have the power of innocence , depending on the thread . otherwise , she sides with the exorcists in hopes of saving humanity . if she does inherit innocence , it’s a beastial type . her dragon , Golithe , is her weapon . more details will be developed later . for her neutral verse , Jo fights for all the beings that are thrown by the wayside in the holy war . she tries to find a way to save the lost souls . she fights for the monsters that lurk in the shadows : werewolves , vampires , ghouls , ghosts , && others . for her noah verse , Jo sides with the power of noah . she finds the order to be vile , full of corruption && definitely in need of destruction ( she aims to hunt down the higher ups , such as Lenny && the director Leviere ) . she pities the exorcists , && wants to save them from the order . here’s how she would be applied :
the world , before its creation , was made up of only two beings : light , and darkness . there was no life or death , no souls , no earth , no war . light eventually created the first world , which was later destroyed by the darkness . he tries again , && every time , darkness won .
until light created the world where the DGM universe existed . the light became known as God , a being that brought life to the world . first , he made the archangels ; Michael ( Jo’s father ) , Raphael , && Lucifer ( God’s favorite son ) . then , the darkness is sealed away within Lucifer , putting an end to the destruction of life . the four horsemen are born from Adam && Eve’s first sin , whereas there was no death or pain prior . grigori are born , then become corrupt due to the influx of sin ; around this time is when Big Mama , the creature that watches over Jo’s family , is born . she is a gryphon , regulator of souls && overseer of grim reapers ( who are born under Death’s hand ) . syrandrasti , born from the giants , are created alongside man . giants are beings now called nephiliam , half-human && half-grigori angel .
Big Mama notices the eventual ruin of man following the death of Abel && the damnation of Caine , Lucifer sealed away && hell rising . she chooses a human , who later becomes Josie’s grandmother , to help regulate the evil in the world . they are a chink in the world’s natural process : upon her grandmother’s death ( akin to that of Noah , where another soul inhabits her grandmother’s body while coinciding with her grandmother’s soul ) , her original soul is shattered . this becomes known as innocence .
following the fall of Lucifer , God leaves heaven in dismay . he tries to purify the world through the beginning of the crusade . Noah’s ark , the death of the giants , the first legion of angels are killed && the world is cleansed . but he lost control of the Noah , && over the innocence that won . he disappears , && leaves heaven to his first two sons , Michael && Raphael .
Raphael pushes support toward the crusade , believing that Father made himself to be “the heart” , so once the “heart” is found , then God would return . He cared little about the humans that would die , the souls that would suffer : he would do anything to bring Father home .
Michael is different . He is a soldier that awaits Father’s return , not wanting to become part of the crusades . He later mates with Josie’s mother , bearing children with her . Heaven is enraged , && in an attempt to appease his supporters , he pushes his children to become soldiers as well . To fight && live && die for heaven . To search for a solution to the crusades . To kill humans who become too powerful , to destroy monsters that may hinder the process of the crusades && finding Father .
Jo NSFW trivia that nobody asked for
she’s not a virgin . sorry to break it to you , but she’s a rather promiscuous girl. she had lost her virginity rather early - maybe too early , to a girl a few years older than her . she doesn’t honestly practice safe-sex - normally , no condoms are used . she basically assumes she’s infertile ( on account of several miscarriages ) or unable to carry a child full term . in modern verse , she’s on the pill . she does not have diseases : she’s been lucky thus far to not contract anything and she does not carry anything either she’s very demanding , and sexually adventurous . she has a very high libido that few partners can keep up with . she enjoys ‘ surprise ’ sex – when she’s asleep , if her partner begins rubbing against her , she’ll likely be ready to go right into it . her breasts are her most tender part of her , and most of her stimulation comes orally through pleasing her partner ( oral sex is a m u s t for her or she will ditch her partner ). another soft spot is her shoulder blades , where her wings rest . when she orgasms , her wings will appear and spread out when she cries out her partner’s name she loves mood music , candles , rosepetals - but she’s not afraid to do it basically anywhere ?? and she’ll instigate it , especially if her partner is uptight about their sex life . she’ll honestly hop in bed with people she’s attracted to - she’s the sleep on the first date type . no shame in that , but if her partner is disappointing then she’ll never call back lmao . she’s done anal before ?? didn’t care for it much but if her partner likes it then she’ll be down ?? to please them ?? 99% of the time she’s wearing lingerie under her clothes . another thing she does is go commando every so often - even in dresses . she loves going without a bra or stockings so if anyone saw her then wel p they’re getting a sho w . she’s a sexual performer on the weekends !! she enjoys stripping and just PERFORMING for other people . she loves leading people on , make them quiver for her . in the early stages of relationships , she’ll tease the HELL out of her partner like ?? cuddle her ?? she’s braless ?? spank h e r for being naughty and teasing you so heartlessly . she’ll probably call her partner some sort of nsfw nickname like d.addy or m.om.my. don’t test her - she’ll do it and not feel ashamed honestly Jo is just a sexual creature and there’s ?? no shame in that . she loves performing and pleasing her partners to the MAX . just try to keep up with her sexual needs and she’ll m a r r y you .
Jo has four elder siblings: Theodore (”Teddy”; age 30), Walter (”Wally”; age 28), Charles (”Charlie”; age 25), and Minerva (”Minella”; age 22). Then comes Ruth (”Raci”, in reference to her middle name being Iracebeth; elder twin), Jo (”Mirana”, in reference to her middle name; younger twin). Finally are the two youngest, Hunter (”Honey”; age 6) and Maxine (”Max”; age 3). Teddy, Wally, Charlie, and Minella are all deceased. Teddy died from prolonged illness, Wally and Charlie died from the war, and Minella was murdered by her fiance because she tried to leave him (he was abusive and an alcoholic, believed women were property and didn’t like being the bad guy - Jo later murders him when she was thirteen). Jo and Ruth still struggle from their deaths, as do their mother and father (who are both absent from the girls’ lives). They take care of their younger sisters. Shortly after Minerva’s death, their mother Lucilla leaves the dukedom. Their father never left heaven afterward, only sending projects for Jo to complete through messenger angels. Ruth, as the elder twin, became the successor to the dukedom. She was raised like a flower child - taught how to play piano, sing, write poetry, and embroider. She wasn’t bred for hard work; that was left for Jo. Ruth’s prime weapon would be guns and knives, both of which are strapped to her thighs at all time. She’s also taken most of her power from her mother, a witch. Her voice is enchanted. Jo was later taught how to hunt monsters and kill, learned how to heal bodies, and perfected her soul-capturing abilities. She was discouraged from learning any form of feminine activity, but she still plays violin and practices ballet. Her prime weapon would be archery and swordsmanship, though she can be a talented sharpshooter. Jo later becomes the doctor and hunter for the dukedom, abolishing any pests (like banshees, demons, or ghosts, ect.,) from disturbing the tenants. Because of the constant strain of power spewing from either twin, they get sick very easily; Jo’s heart is very weak and is susceptible to blackouts. Ruth will often get horrible migraines, suffer from muscle weakness, and bruises easily. Jo is losing her memory and her body is dying quickly; Ruth is desperately searching for a way to keep Jo’s body from completely failing her. It is suspected that Jo will not live past her nineteenth birthday.
she has two sets of wings : one large set , and a smaller set underneath the top set . Her wings expand outwards and are quite large in comparison to her body . but they are soft , silky , and sensitive . she never reveals her wings to just anyone : she must really trust the person if they can see them . she’ll let them touch the wings , but it’s a very intimate act for her. she’ll feel the slightest graze of fingertips as if her skin was being touched . her wing pattern is unique to only to arch angels .
Winny’s voice claim will be Troye Sivan , especially whenever he sings .
Frankie’s voice claim is possibly the Lumineer’s lead vocalist , Wesley Shultz .
jo’s sister’s trivia:
her sisters are more human , mainly taking after their mother . they have powers like their sister , Ruth . Hunter’s main power lies in that she can shapeshift into a kitten , later into a full grown cat as she grows up . whenever excited , she’ll shift by accident . she also uses this form to comfort Max whenever she’s upset . Max is known as a “soundproof” , a person who cannot hear the voices of living beings . she can hear music , instrumental versions , and singers who have passed away . but once she hears someone she knows , she will throw a fit . Max is haunted by the voices of the dead , causing her to stay up for days and nights , throwing fits because the voices she can hear aren’t very kind , and they’re very scary Hunter’s other powers lie in her fingertips , her blood enchanted just like Jo’s . her voice is not quite as charmed as Ruth’s , so she can have childish fits where she’ll tell people to go away and they won’t be harmed . Both girls take after Jo as a child , and look very similarly to her as well . Hunter has gotten into fights with other girls in her school before . Hunter likes to protect and watch over Max , who she says she is responsible for .
AT NIGHT , JO WASN’T SUPPOSED to leave the house alone . For the first few years of life , she never could go outside at all . She could only watch the weather from her windows , up high in a tower with ancient sigils marking the walls . Ruth would read to her novels about magical places , about the sky , about mankind and how they will never fully belong . And oh , how she ached for it all .
When Ruth fell asleep , the younger child sneaks outside , quietly creeping through the halls until she reached the door , opening and shutting it behind her . All around was the garden she adored , the flowers blooming in the early spring and the air was still chilly . She wore no shoes , only her night dress . All around her , small orbs began to form , souls drawn to her essence . Some took shape – children with ruddy faces , older men with kind eyes , mothers with gentle smiles .
And she’s drawn away , into the woods , to follow these spirits as her voice began to sing for them . She went missing for a few days , until she was found in town by some demons . Friends’ of her mother had found her , protected her from being stolen away or killed . But she wouldn’t apologize for any of it . Frankie: DEATH . IT WAS SUPPOSED TO mean the end of everything ; however , with his death came life , and a rather happy one at that . Now he had a family , sisters to watch out for , an annoying kid brother ( Winter ) to help train for combat . He had a darling love interest , he had it all .
But Frankie could never shut down the feelings that haunted him , the voices that greeted him upon dying the first time . When he closes his eyes , that comforting sensation washes over him . Death was finalized , it was peaceful and no one but him could understand it .
He’s learned through the years that death meant different things for different people . For some , it was heaven . For others , hell . Purgatory . Limbo . But for him , it meant vast emptiness . Just a cool , black void where there was no pain or thought or sound . Just a vacuum in space . And there were others , like he was in the middle of space and they were all stars , they were a sight for him to focus on , like he was sky gazing .
Clearing his throat , Frankie is unable to meet Alyss’s eyes . Instead , he focuses on the marble flooring of the house , one hand reaching up to rub the back of his neck . “ … No . I don’t want to die , ” he was lying .
A pause .
His lips purse , his head turning to look behind him . When confident that it was only him and her , he turns back to her , his voice lowering . “ Actually … I do . I died once , a long time ago , and I shouldn’t be standing here today if it weren’t for Josie . However , ever since then , I could never shake the feeling I had when I did die . I can wait for it , because its an eternal promise for me , and that’s comforting . When it is the end for me , I will accept it wholeheartedly . Until then , I’m staying alive for my family . ” jo trivia;
she is a cheater. point blank. she will have affairs with other people while in a relationship. often, its because she’s not getting something she craves (attention, love, sex, ect). but its so hard for her to actually /end/ relationships. more often than not, she won’t end the relationship – she’ll just disappear completely. she won’t call back, she’ll change her number. she’ll change her address. she’ll move towns and completely leave them behind. it hurts, but she can’t bring herself to end it completely.
some angelic trivia ;;
before the creation of heaven and hell , there were 3 beings : Light (God), Dark (Amara), and Gray (Mama) Mama helped create both God and Amara . she was there for their creation , watching over them and lovingly helping them form physical beings Mama takes the form of a gryphon , and she primarily stays in the clouds . Mama controls the flow of souls - sending them to heaven , hell , purgatory , or leaving them on earth beneath her are the Four Horsemen , who promote Death beneath Death are the shinigami or grim reapers the rest of this can be found on a different post lma o
fun fact ; when Jo dies , she’ll cease to exist completely . any surviving memory of her will disappear as if she never was born .
if someone prays to Jo , she will hear them and come straight away .
Josie’s powers are very unique. She is one of the few beings (other than reapers and deities, angels, and demons) that can see souls. She can see the approximate length of time that they live or die, but its flexible as fate is flexible as well. One minute, your lifespan is 80 years and the next, its 5 minutes if you piss a guy off in a bar.
For the Kuro verse, I’m still tinkering around. What I have thus far, however, is this: once a reaper loses their “job” or retires, they cannot revive or retrieve souls. Their sythe stops being as effective, allowing them to SEE people’s cinematic record but they’re unable to do anything about it. They can’t collect the soul, revive the soul - nothing.
Currently, my idea is that Undertaker has too much time on his hands. And he loved the Phantomhives so much. . . so he’s trying to mimic Jo’s technique without asking her. What he thinks she does and what she actually does is a mystery to reapers and angels alike; its a secret that has been hidden from public view for thousands of years when her grandmother would perform it.
This is where things get a little graphic, so continue at your own risk.
Alright, so here’s how Jo does it:
First, she finds a dying person. The person has to fear death, and want to continue living either subconsciously or consciously. This could be someone who was recently shot and she’s operating on them, or it’s a human who has died a little while ago but hasn’t been collected yet. Then, she gathers the body and takes it from the scene, using her grace to transport her quickly from point A to point B. She opens the body if there’s no obvious cause of death (like if it was a heart attack) and repairs it using metal. She is calm, emotionless, and diligent. Her eyes are a slate gray, perhaps even bursting to flame. She’s incredibly strong at the moment, so few people want to be near her in this state. She peels away the flesh and muscle, reconnecting the bones with metal parts. She carefully sews it back up, ensuring that the body can begin breathing again. Here is where it gets a little hairy, where she won’t reveal her secrets… but she uses her own blood to replace the blood that was lost. She then retrieves the soul, sewing it back into the flesh and wires via magic. If the soul takes to the body - the person is alive, but both of them are weak now. Jo has now given the sacrifice: a piece of her own soul, a shard if you will. Now, a shred of an angel’s soul is maybe worth a bit more than a human’s soul, but she doesn’t get all of it. She gets pieces of the human soul, putting bits of herself into it to make it whole again. Even then, this isn’t guaranteed to work. It takes hours of work, but if it was successful, the person wakes up. They’re scared, screaming ( its logical because people scream when entering the world when they are born, so they may scream when they’re leaving it - even if it is silent and soft ). It hurts, everywhere. The shock of being dead and suddenly being alive again is immense. She’ll greet them, calmly. She’s exhausted, hurting all over ( like she’s given birth… because she sorta does give life ) and possibly bleeding. However, she’ll clean up for her client, not wanting to scare them. Now that they are connected physically, emotionally, and spiritually, they can sense her pain and her fear. They will know she is exhausted, and she will know how they feel. Memories of their death should not be present after waking up - this is important. Once they wake up, they will act like they hadn’t died. That their death was a nightmare, and Jo is the nurse caring for them. Over time, she will tell them the truth: over time is the key phrase. If she tells them immediately, the shock may rip the soul from the body. They may overreact and become hostile and angry, becoming a monster ( which she will have to later dispose of ). They will have questions, but they will be sleepy. They will be hungry and tired and so, so… everywhere. They’ll have to go to the restroom, will feel minor discomfort as their body adjusts to the new parts. She will bat away the fears, comforting them. There should be a warm connection of safety after a while. The connection is weak. She cannot go more than ten feet from them or else they will start to remember and hurt - over time, they can be farther from each other. This happens over a time period of months or even years. It isn’t immediate. Should the person pass the threshold, their most painful memories will return. The agony of their death, like loss of feeling in their fingertips to feeling cold from blood loss: everything will be ten times more overwhelming because the soul is freshly mended and recreated. The body will feel like it is falling apart, and if the wound is worse enough, then it will fall apart. Loss of humanity comes next. Pain is still present, agony is present: but they stop caring. The things they enjoyed, the people they loved… they will become bitter, and cruel. They will want to kill them, everyone. They will want to kill Jo, too. At this point, if she lets it go this far, Jo will kill them. She does not get those pieces of her soul back, but she will remember their memories more than she will her own. Final stage: death in its cruelest degree. The body will stop responding, the soul will begin to detach itself. The person will feel fear that they are being failed, their bloodlust turning into bittersweet envy. They will damn Jo, cuss her out. They will feel their bodies begin to melt away. They will die, and be fully conscious of it. Old wounds will return ( like if they were stabbed, the wound will open up again ) and they will die a second time. But Jo cannot wake them after this… all she can do is bury them and mourn. Now that Jo has given them a large chunk of herself, if successful, they can see into her. They can feel her when she’s hurting, when she’s scared. She can feel their emotions too, when they are hurting and when they are hungry. It is like a tunnel has connected the two souls because it literally is.
For those who are unruly and violently angry, Jo will do whatever she can to keep them safe. If not careful, the person will become a monster, one that loses their humanity. Loss of humanity means loss of love, gratitude, compassion. They could kill anyone and anything in their path, much like a Bizarre Doll or a Soulless on Supernatural.
Jo does these things because she wants to help them, because she loves them, because she knows she can save a life. She willingly surrenders parts of herself for others, wanting them to live with her. And, after a while, without her. When she finds the next Machanique, she will pass them on before fading to ash. It will take decades, maybe centuries, before she finds the next heir.
Update: if the person hates Jo afterward, it is fine. It is if they initially hate her is when things are concerning. They do not need to love each other - they need to tolerate each other. They should be comfortable with one another, its like having someone to share your deepest feelings with. Its a connection that few will understand but those who do will enjoy it, even if they aren’t on the best of terms.
Jo is actually quite flexible, in her modern verse being a cheerleader. She was a flier, could do tricks mid-air, and complete a full split. Jo sleeps with other people for her comfort, she hates sleeping alone. When she does fall asleep, she’s holding onto their hands and completely cuddles into them. She waits for them to wake up before she leaves, patting their cheeks gently until they rise. Jo often sleeps beside Frankie, actually! The two share a bed quite often. He knows she needs someone to hold onto, so he volunteers. While they snooze, her sisters Max and Hunter crawl into bed with them. Ruth is married: Jo is not. Ruth has been married for about 2-3 years now, after Jo had left for war. There was no ceremony, just vows exchanged. They are waiting to have a real wedding. Ruth later leaves to join the war in search of her sister and is enlisted to document the monstrosities ( she’s a journalist, a published author, and is avid about documentation ). Ruth remembers everything that Jo doesn’t remember, which is a lot. Jo is prone to running away. She will join circuses for a few months, perform with them, and then she’ll run off to do something else. She enjoys being part of the lower class - she finds them less rigid than nobles, more interesting. She also paints on people a lot, on walls, inside of carriages, on animals… she will paint on anything and anyone that she comes across. Its her favorite thing to do when stuck inside. Jo went to a private school while Ruth was tutored at home ( she would come attend small classes, like art classes or journalism, but no core subjects ). She later quits school, much to Ruth’s chagrin. The two argue incessantly about her going back ( she’s already raised to be a doctor and a prothstetician, she doesn’t understand how learning about math will help with it ).
Trivium; Edalina
Eda is a creature known as a Swanette, a species of human that can become birds. She has the ability to turn into - you guessed it - a Swan. Her feathers are completely white, and she looks extremely elegant while in that form. She can manipulate time and create small pockets in between the fabric of time and space - these are called “nests” or “loops”. She was supposed to succeed her mother, a Swan who runs an orphanage of peculiar children, but she rejected that life and ran away. Her parents are both extremely wealthy and never spent time with her, so why should she care for people who loved abandoned children more than their own?
Eda has a severe attitude problem, as many have seen in their interaction with her. I blame this on the idea that Swans are very well guarded and seclusive animals ( this is just my idea of them, not backed by anything legit ). Eda is rather small for her species, and her body is quite soft and smooth. Her hair is soft and feather-like, but full of volume and thick. She doesn’t have thin hair by any means.
Internally, she’s very kind. She used to be a child who was very sickly and kept indoors where she would prepare things for her mother when she came home. These things always were overshadowed by the demands of work and her affair ( yep, that’s right, Eda was born in a broken home paired with two parents who didn’t love each other and argued constantly in front of her ). Eda was raised primarily by her grandmother, who fostered the idea that Eda was a special little girl.
At an early age, Eda loved photographs and ice skating, dancing and the arts. She would write plays to perform for her parents ( who never actually watched her, just patted her head after looking up from their books or phones and said ‘good job honey’ ). She was taught that love doesn’t exist, and if you show that love ( like her Grand Mammy would show affection toward her emotionless daughter and be later mocked for it ) then you’re pretty much asking for abuse.
She’s a very smart and bright girl, raised with the STEM ideals with a heavy focus on math and science. But she didn’t care about either of these things; she wanted to be in the liberal arts field and enjoy life. This… did not go over well with her parents, or her Grand Mammy. After a semester in a highly esteemed college, Eda drops out and bolts, leaving her home completely. She never returns their calls, and keeps using the family bank card to fund her actions.
Her parents don’t know she’s gone, but her Grand Mammy does. She’s sought desperately for her granddaughter until she fell ill one night and passed away. Eda doesn’t know this yet, but she also knows. Its one of those instances where you are aware of a certain outcome without being told about it, and once it is actually said aloud then it will be more painful.

Based on Weird War Tales #108 https://comicvine.gamespot.com/weird-war-tales-108-robots-dont-have-hearts/4000-21913/ The Creature Commandos: I'm guessing 99% of people who are reading this don't know who the Creature Commandos are. The Creature Commandos are a monster group in DC Comics that were created by Project M to fight in World War II. The team was basically made of Warren Griffith, (a Werewolf) Lucky ( Who looked like the Frankenstein monster), Velcoro (a Vampire). Later on a Gorgon named Dr. Myrra Rhodes, and an army robot named J.A.K.E or GI Robot would also join the team. They were lead by Lt. Matthew Shrieve who was actually sometime more of a monster, than the monsters he lead. Yeah it sounds that awesome! The team had two more incarnations, but I decided to go back to the original team. Here they go after good ol Adolf Hitler himself Creature Commandos (c) DC comics Original Art (c) Joe Stanton / Bruce D Patterson Art (c) Me
