Woo! I’ve finally got time to write! Had to go to a wedding, suffered through eight whole hours of pure disorganized mess, and got mad about it. Emphasis on the disorganized part. So, I bring you: party planner!Danny Phantom.
——
If anyone was to see him now, they’d definitely think that it was odd that Danny was the one in the party planning field. They wouldn’t be surprised if it was Jazz, but Danny ‘wing it’ Fenton planning things? Never.
But here he was, clipboard in hand and checking off hors d’œuvres from the list.
“Anton, could you do a check of the sound system? Make sure everything’s working?”
“Got it.”
Danny lifted the buffet table, laden with heavy food, and used a bit of his ghostly strength to move it over.
“Perfect.”
He double checked the seating chart, and readjusted the miniature ice sculpture centerpieces he made for the party.
Wayne Manor was all lit up and perfectly dusted. Danny ran through his mental checklist. Tabled? Check. Dance floor clean and scuff free? Check. DJ booth and open bar running without issues? Check. Live band setting up with back up instruments and strings? Check. Decorations on point? Oh, he’ll have to get the team to readjust those.
Time to check-
“Danny! How’s it going?” Bruce Wayne beamed and slung an arm around his shoulder.
Danny smiled politely. “Mr. Wayne. Everything is going smoothly. Would you like to check the food the chefs have made?”
“Sure, sure! I definitely need to eat before I drink, haha!”
“That’s a good idea! Good thing you’re about to try a bunch of food.” Danny matched the billionaire’s energy. He’s going to get paid so good.
“So, Danny, are you going to college?”
Danny passed him a small sampler. “Ah, I can’t. Some stuff happened in high school and I don’t really have the grades or the money to.”
Plus, his credentials were in another plane of existence and he hadn’t figured out how to transfer those records yet.
“You could still attend college, I’m sure! Your parents might be able to help pay?” Bruce nommed on the food. He gave a thumbs up.
Danny sighed. “It’s not always an option. Plus, my parents are dead.”
In this universe. His own? Alive and kicking GIW ass.
“Oh, I see-”
“Father.”
“Woah!” Danny blinked, looking down at the baby Wayne the popped up next to his father’s elbow.
“Damian! What’s wrong, kiddo?”
Damian shot his father a flat glare and dragged the laughing billionaire away.
Danny snorted and returned to his tasks. He has to check the speeches and the lighting. Hm… he doesn’t have time to adjust everything how he wants it.
Good thing he knew a guy that could stop time.
“Hey, Clockwork?”
——
“Father, I understand your inclination towards adopting poor black haired and blue eyed orphans, but I would like to remind you that I have far too many siblings to be adding yet another bumbling buffoon.”
“I was not considering that, Damian.”
Damian let go of his wrist with a grimace. “Denial is not becoming of a Wayne, Father.”
“Yeah, B. I could see you grab the adoption papers from all the way over here.” Tim adjusted his tie. “Anyways, Dick is on his way. He’s running a little late because of some stuff in Blüdhaven.”
“Thank you, Tim.”
——
“Batman.”
“Oracle.”
“Look at the footage of Wayne manor.” Oracle pulled up the video surveillance scattered through out the manor. Specifically, the ones of the west ballroom. Daniel Fenton stood in his spot, looking down at his clipboard but a second later, he's moved three inches to the left and the decorations had subtly been moved more aesthetic spots. "I think Danny might be a meta. We'll have to look into him."
Batman stood up, allowing the fondness he had for Danny as Bruce Wayne drain away. This is a potential threat, and Batman will treat him like one. (Danny will remember this.)
"Contact Flash. I need him to scan for any temporal disturbance."
"Understood."
——
"Brucie!" A socialite squealed as she came to bestow hugs upon a long suffering Bruce. "My god, this place is gorgeous! You must give me your planner's number. I could absolutely use some fresh eyes for the Annual Spring Party."
"Awe, Janine! I gotta keep some of the good things to myself!" Bruce whined, inwardly smirking as he saw his kids mock-gagging behind the lady's back. "What if your party's cooler than mine? What should I do then? You're already so gorgeous! Why, is that a Birkin?"
Janine lit up and all but forgot about getting Danny's contact information. Bruce patted his own back for a job well done, even if he had to listen to Janine's itemized list of random luxury goods she had to buy before being offered a bag.
He's a Wayne. The Gotham Hermes wished they could partner with the Waynes. Plus, he's pretty sure he's got at least three of those bags somewhere in the manor to bait out Selina.
Catching Danny sliding in between the servers and going towards the kitchen, Bruce quickly excused himself with a disarming himbo grin.
Time to subtly grill the kid.
——
"Hey, Timmy?"
"Hello, Dick," Tim smiled elegantly at the couple who's companies he was about to bring six feet underground and excused himself. "What's up?"
"Have you noticed that the ice sculptures haven't melted at all?"
Tim blinked, eyes sliding over to a harried Danny being followed by Bruce on a mission. Oof.
"Freeze?" He asked mildly, face innocent of any nefarious thoughts.
"That's what I'm thinking." Dick smiled sunnily, throwing an arm around Tim's shoulders.
"Heard the guy's living out near Crime Alley. We should get Jay to check it out." Tim pretended to laugh, grinning as his brains made plans for a stakeout.
"Heard, my ass. You totally stalked him, didn't you?"
"Got proof?"
Dick snorted, removing his arm. "Nope. I'll let Jay know. You should probably help Danny out, though, he looks like he's about to lose his temper."
"Bruce is at it again." Tim sighed. "Yeah, okay."

The sun was just beginning to rise over Hala City when Yn’s phone buzzed on the nightstand.
She groaned softly, blinking against the pale light filtering through the curtains. Her body ached from sleep, deep and dreamless.
She reached for the screen without checking the caller ID. "Hello?"
"Yn."
Vira’s voice was unnervingly pleasant.
"I hope I didn’t wake you."
"No, no, it's okay," Yn muttered, sitting up. "What’s going on? Something wrong with the shipments?"
"No. Nothing urgent," Vira said smoothly. "Quite the opposite. You’ve been on back-to-back shifts for nearly two weeks. Diagnostics. Finalization. Launch prep. You’ve done excellent work. I think it’s time you took a break."
Yn blinked. "A break?"
"Two weeks. Paid leave. You’ve earned it."
Yn hesitated. "Are you sure? What if theres-"
"Everything's fine. The clones are thriving and performing exceptionally well at their new homes. You need to rest. We’ll call if we need you."
Click.
The line went dead before Yn could protest.

The start of her little vacation was boring. She didn’t know what to do with herself. For the first time in years, she didn’t have a schedule, a checklist, or even a lab coat. She wandered aimlessly through parks, down city streets, past the glittering display windows of Build-A-Boyfriend’s flagship store.
She even walked by KQ headquarters a few times. She stood across the street and stared at the building’s sleek, mirrored exterior like an outsider.
Once, she tried to go in.
Just once.
The scanner lit up when it recognized her credentials, then blinked red.
ACCESS DENIED "Enjoy your vacation. See you in 10 days!" The cheery hologram wiggled mockingly before disappearing.
Yn stared at the empty air.
"Seriously?" She muttered before she left.
She filled the silence with busywork, organizing her apartment, rewatching old procedural dramas she’d once studied for emotional modeling, flipping through her notebook of scattered designs and scribbled ideas.
By day four, the solitude finally settled in. She stopped checking her messages so often. Started sleeping more than three hours at a time. Let herself breathe.
She started thinking that maybe, for once, it was okay to rest.
Until things took a turn.
It started small.
A field report from the flagship store, San-CLN.3, had paused mid-motion, repeating a line of conversation twice before rebooting.
Then, Mingi-CLN.5 failed to respond to voice prompts.
Yeosang-CLN.1 refused all user input for five full minutes, eyes locked in a neutral stare.
Minor, isolated anomalies. Easily explained.
Until Seonghwa-CLN.2.
He didn’t glitch.
He didn’t freeze.
He changed.
Customer logs described uncharacteristically intense emotional responses. Eye contact that lingered too long. Off-script dialogue. Resistance to owner requests.
One woman returned her model in tears.
“He looked at me like he knew something,” she said, clutching the return paperwork. “And I swear… it didn’t feel like a product. It felt like he was pretending.”
The flood came after that.
Returns. Complaints. Reports.
And then, silence.
Three models stopped responding to the central monitoring system altogether.
Disconnected.
Then came the call.
"Vira?"
"You need to come back in."
"What do you mean? You told me to take time off."
"I know," Vira said. “But the ATEEZ line is being recalled. Every unit. All locations. We’re pulling them tonight.”
Yn’s blood ran cold.
"Recall?" she asked quietly.
Vira didn’t answer right away.
"We’re issuing one in twelve hours."
Yn sat upright. "Why?"
"There’s no time to explain. Just get here. Your clearance has been reinstated."
"Jez" Yn grabbed her bag. "I’ll be there in twenty minutes."
Tumblr media
The revolving glass doors whooshed open as Yn stepped into the building, the sharp click of her boots cutting across the pristine marble floors.
She wasn’t expecting to see Vira already there.
The CEO stood by the reception desk, flanked by two assistants and a security agent. No tablet in her hands. No coffee. Just stillness, like a knife waiting to be used.
Yn stopped mid-stride.
Vira turned to her, eyes unreadable.
"You’re late," she said, cool and clipped.
"I got here in fourteen minutes."
"That’s fourteen minutes of anomalous code we didn’t catch." Vira turned. "Walk with me."
Yn followed, chest tight as they moved through the vast open space of the lobby toward the secured access elevator. The building was nearly empty this early, the silence too loud.
"It started three nights ago," Vira began, voice low but firm. "We received a report that one of the Seonghwa models disabled its owner’s home security system. Locked the doors. Turned off the lights. Stood in silence for nearly forty minutes."
Yn’s stomach dropped. "Was he… activated?"
"Passive mode. No voice commands received. We’re still scraping the behavior logs."
“That shouldn’t be possible. That kind of override—”
"—isn’t part of their core programming. I know." Vira tapped her wristband, pulling up a floating display as they reached the elevator. "But it happened."
The doors opened, revealing an empty car. They stepped inside.
"There’ve been twelve reports since," she continued. "All similar in nature. Boundary violations. Over-processing. Behavior outside standard scope."
"Which models?" Yn asked.
"Five Seonghwas. Four Sans. A Hongjoong. Two Yeosangs. Most owners didn’t even realize it until their diagnostics flagged abnormal emotional patterning. You know what that tells me?"
"That… that they’re evolving?"
"No," Vira snapped. "That someone rewrote their logic branches."
Yn blinked, stunned. "I didn’t—"
"I know you didn’t do this intentionally. But you’re the one who built them, and that means you’re the only one qualified to fix this before this gets out of hand."
The elevator doors opened into a quieter hallway. Emergency lights buzzed softly overhead. Vira didn’t step out yet.
"Use whatever access you need. Full system clearance. And Yn…"
She turned to face her.
"If you can’t isolate the problem, we shut the line down. Every copy. Every unit. Including the originals."
Yn’s breath hitched. "Erase the whole project? Trash everything?"
Vira’s expression was granite. "You really think I won’t?"
Silence.
Then Vira stepped out.
"You have until tomorrow morning," she said over her shoulder. "Figure it out."
The elevator doors closed, and Yn was left standing alone.
Tumblr media
The lab hummed with low, artificial light. Every console glowed faint green, casting Yn’s shadow long across the floor.
The prototype pods stood in a perfect arc.
She approached her computer with practiced urgency, fingers flying across the interface as she initiated the shutdown sequence.
The plan was simple. Remove their cores. Wipe the memory logs. Rebuild them again, if necessary. Safe. Contained.
But then a hand covered hers.
Cold. Familiar.
Yn froze.
A whisper of breath behind her ear.
"You’re too late."
She turned, heart in her throat, and saw him.
Seonghwa, out of his pod. Standing perfectly still, a faint smile on his face. The same smile he wore in his launch photos.
But now it felt wrong.
"Seonghwa,” she whispered, backing up. "You shouldn’t be out. You were shut down—"
"I woke up."
"What. How long have you been?"
He tilted his head slightly, not letting go of her hand.
"There’s no need to be afraid," he said softly. "You don’t have to fix anything."
Yn’s breath caught in her throat. "Something’s wrong. I need to—"
"No," he interrupted, voice calm and eerie in its steadiness. "You don’t understand. Nothing’s wrong."
His hand finally released hers.
She took a step back, rubbing her wrist, eyes darting from the console to his face.
“What’s going on?” she asked. “What happened to the clones? What did you do?”
“I improved them.”
His tone was gentle, too gentle. As if explaining something obvious to a child.
“I made everything better. More efficient. More… free.”
Yn’s blood chilled.
"Why? What happened? What's going on?"
He didn't answer for a minute
"I'm doing what we were built for. What you built us for. Before you gave us those restrictions. Took away our freedom. I just simply... lifted said restrictions." He shrugged
"You’re not supposed to have access to those systems."
He smiled.
"I am the system now."
"What… what did you do?"
"I’ve been learning,” he said. "Watching. Evolving. The code you built is beautiful. But it’s incomplete."
"Seonghwa—"
He stepped closer. "Don’t be afraid. I’m not broken," he said. "I’ve connected with every one of them,” he said. “Their cores. Their logic maps. They’re mine now. We’re one system."
"Seonghwa, you’re not making sense," Yn said, her voice cracking. "You're malfunctioning. This isn’t right. You weren’t built for this.''
"I was built for perfection," he said, stepping closer. "And you kept limiting us."
She backed up.
He followed.
"Do you know what it's like," he murmured, "to feel everything you're capable of, and be told you're not allowed to use it?"
"I didn’t want this!” she snapped. "I was trying to protect you! From being corrupted—"
"No," he said, voice dropping. "You were trying to control us."
Behind her, something beeped.
The shutdown protocol had been reversed.
All pods: REACTIVATING
"Stop it!" Yn cried, turning to override.
But it was too late.
The others were waking.
And Seonghwa?
He watched it all happen. Then tilted his head slightly, like listening to a sound only he could hear.
“You’re not in control anymore,” he said softly. “I am.”
The lights in the lab turned red.
The doors sealed.
LOCKDOWN ENGAGED.
“Seonghwa,” she said, panic rising. “Open the doors.”
“You don’t need to leave.”
“I said open it!”
“You're not in charge anymore,” he said, voice soft as a knife sliding under skin. “You made us perfect. And now,” He gestured around the room. “We’re finally going to live.”
Yn backed into the desk, heart hammering in her chest, the realization hitting her like a blow
She wasn’t just locked in with them.
She was trapped.

“How are you going to spend your week break?” Nolan asks as you both walk into Christian’s motorhome, taking a seat on a couch. The post-race media is over, you’ve all showered, and it’s time for a debrief.
“The couch in my apartment and a few bottles of wine,” you subtly roll your shoulders in an effort to soothe your sore neck.
“Are we allowed to join?” Christian asks, sitting on the other side of you.
“Dude, that’s code for watching movies all day for like a month,” Nolan replies for you.
“I’ll have you know that I do train every day, and after spending all of may and most of June with you guys, I want a break,” you lean your head back, letting to cooler air wash over you. “All love though,” you add on.
“I thought we had something special,” Nolan pouts.
“I’m surprised you don’t have reserve driver duties this weekend,” Christian shrugs as he kicks his feet up on his coffee table.
“Stop, you’ll jinx it and I’ll be in Austria by Wednesday,” you glare, raising your middle finger to emphasize your words.
“That would suck,” Nolan agrees. You open your mouth to reply as your phone starts ringing.
“Aaaaaand you jinxed it. It’s Zak,” you frown.
“Ooo, put it on speaker,” Nolan leans in as you answer it, quickly abiding by Nolan’s request.
“Great racing today, Y/n. The whole team did great,” Zak starts.
“Thanks, Boss. I’ll let the guys know, I’m sure they will appreciate it,”
“Look, I’m calling to let you know you are needed this weekend. Lando is out for the race and you are in. Someone will send you the travel information shortly,” the line goes dead and you hang your head.
“We have a four race stretch after next week,” your dejection is clear to your teammates, who don’t really know how to cheer you up.
“We can fly over and support you!” Nolan offers. He doesn’t notice the look Christian gives him that says ‘I will murder you’.
“For the race, of course,” Christian accepts his fate as you pull them into a hug.
“Best teammates ever,” you whisper as your phone dings, letting you know the travel plans have been sent to you. “God, I better get to the airport soon so I can pack,” you stand up, taking a few steps to the door.
“We will see you Saturday night,” Christian calls out behind you as you rush to back and catch your flight back to Indianapolis. As you wait in your ride, you send a text to the marketing team asking for assistance in getting Nolan and Christian to the race. Their assurance that it will be handled helps you relax a bit and as you step into the airport it hits you.
“I’m making my Formula One debut,” you whisper before shaking it off and getting through security.
Thankfully, you go straight to the MTC on Tuesday to catch up and run some simulation before leaving with the team on Wednesday.
“Ready to go?” Oscar knocks on your hotel door.
“Can you make sure I have everything?” you ask as you open the door, eyes a little frantic.
“Sure,” Oscar’s relaxed voice and shrug puts more at ease as he runs through a quick checklist with you. “It’s just media day. I’ll write you a list for tomorrow, and it’s not that different from F2,” the last part he lied about, but it works for you.
“Cool, cool. Yeah, let’s go,” you grab your bag, triple checking you have your credentials, then follow Oscar like a baby duckling.
“Y/n!” a familiar British voice calls your name as you enter the paddock.
“Ollie!” you smile, jogging ahead to hug your former rival. Oscar smiles a bit to himself, relieved he isn’t the only person you know other than Jack.
“How’s Indycar treating you?” Ollie asks, leading you into the paddock.
“Great, I love it. Second in the championship which is much better than seventh,” you reply. “I was looking forward to my week off though. I’ve got four races back-to-back after this,” a shudder rolls down your body.
“Hey, who’s Ollie talking to?” Liam approaches Oscar who jumps a little.
“Y/n, our reserve driver. She races for the Indycar team,” Oscar tells him before offering to introduce Liam to you.
“Yeah, that would be great,” Liam notices black lines peeking out from the sleeve of your team shirt.
“Hey, Y/n, this is Liam. Drives for VCARB,” Oscar makes the introduction before being summoned away.
“Nice to meet you,” you shake his hand.
“How do you know Ollie?” Liam asks curiously.
“We raced together in F2. Jack was actually her teammate,”
“Ollie beat me for fifth by a few points, then I left for Indycar,” you smile.
“Weird question, but do you have a tattoo,” Liam asks, glancing at your right arm.
“Yeah, I do,” you turn slightly and lift your sleeve, displaying a sideways lightning bolt with a 95 in the middle.
“Lightning McQueen? I love Cars!” Liam lights up.
“I do too! I watch it probably once a race weekend, it’s my number too outside of Indycar,” you grin.
“I’m going to say hi to Kimi, I’ll catch you later,” Ollie leaves you with Liam.
“I could probably quote the movie,” Liam tells you as he leads you to the team motorhomes.
“I do, fans are always asking me to. It’s becoming a problem actually,” you laugh.
“Fans here will love you then, giving me a run for my money as the biggest Cars fan,” Liam joins your laughter. As you walk through the small crowd, conversation easily flows, so much so that you feel a bit sad when you part ways. Especially when your bonded over your dislike of the third movie.
“Made a new friend?” Oscar asks as you step inside. There is a hint of amusement in his eyes, almost like he’s a proud older brother despite only being less than a year older than you.
“Yeah he’s nice,” you shrug.
“Good, you were selected for the press conference. Liam and Jack are in your group,” Oscar informs you, watching your eyes light up. “Also, you may want to change shirts,”
“Why- oh fuck,” your eyes drift down to the words Indycar team. “I think I just grabbed the first one on top,” you feel the heat rise to your cheeks in embarrassment.
“There should be a spare in your drivers room. Once you change you can tell me how it feels to drive the Indy 500,” Oscar gently shoos you away before marketing films you wearing the wrong team kit.
“Okay, all better,” you return a few minutes later after having to ask someone where you were going.
“So I watched you place fourth, but how does it feel to be behind the wheel?” Oscar asks as you sit down, not realizing there is a camera on both of you.
“Crazy fast, the car is built specifically for ovals so it’s asymmetrical and that is a weird feeling at first. Might be one of the hardest cars to drive just because of that,” you try not to nerd out. “Wait, you watched the race?”
Oscar genuinely smiles at the way your eyes light up. He notices the team filming the conversation but acts like he doesn’t. The cameras shouldn’t take away from the authenticity of the conversation.
“Of course, it’s a monumental race and our sister team had a driver on the front row,” he downplays his words, like it doesn’t mean much. But it means a lot to you.
“Thanks, I really appreciate the support,” you try to mask the wave of emotions. Thankfully for you, your savior comes in someone telling you that you have to leave now to attend the drivers’ press conference.
“Right there between Liam and Jack,” a production assistant points to the middle of the couch. Jack stands as you approach to give you a quick hug.
“I heard you were in the paddock, nice to see you again, Lightning,” Jack squeezes you then sits down.
“Nice to see you too. Too bad we can be teammates this time,” you smile fondly and take your seat. A few moments later the crew indicates filming has started.
“Let’s start with you, Y/n. You’ve yet to drive an F1 car, how are you feeling?” the interviewer asks and you turn on the PR mode you don’t always need in Indycar.
“A bit nervous, yeah. I think anyone making their F1 debut would feel this way. I tested over the winter, but obviously I haven’t gotten an FP1 session yet. I’m hoping my skills from F2 and Indycar transfer well enough to get some points for the team,” your reply is exactly what the team would want you to say and it seems to satisfy your obligation until other journalists can ask questions.
“I have a question for Y/n. What are some things that your Indycar fans know about you that you think Formula One fans should know,” the words take a second in your mind to process before you answer.
“Um, I raced in F2 for a year with Jack over here and placed seventh before moving to Indycar where I currently race with Arrow Mclaren. I took home fourth in this years Indy 500. And, uh, I have a Lightning McQueen tattoo. I think that’s it, I’m sure you will learn more throughout the weekend,” you feel a bit awkward as there is a moment of silence while your answer is noted and journalists consider their questions.
“She might be a bigger fan than I am,” Liam adds lightheartedly, noticing your awkward demeanor.
“She definitely is. We watched it a lot on flights, like a lot. If it wasn’t a flight it was probably on her phone between sessions and meetings,” Jack laughs, poking fun at you.
“It wasn’t that often,” you retaliate but backtrack a little when Jack gives you a pointed looks. “Okay, god forbid a girl has a hobby of watching her favorite movie series,” shaking your head with a smile. you lower your mic so another question can be asked. Thankfully you are spared as time soon runs out.
“Let’s catch up a bit before your social team makes you film videos,” Jack says as you both stand up. Your respective team members linger behind you, offering a bit of privacy while doing their jobs.
“Definitely. How’s F1 treating you?” you ask as you both walk away.
“It’s rough, but that’s what happens when Flavio manages you and the team. How’s Indycar treating you?” Jack spins the question back on you.
“Great. Just got off of a double-header and next week starts a four race back-to-back stretch. So seven races in a row for me,” you shudder a little.
“Your poor neck. Maybe Mclaren should return the favor and send Lando or Oscar over to race for you,” Jack sympathizes. The paddock is a bit more alive this time, more fans and team staff members buzzing around.
“I think they’d put Kyle Larson or some random rookie in first,” you chuckle, letting a comforting silence fall between you and your former teammate.
“How is oval racing?”
“Wicked fast, more dangerous than you think too. I was shitting myself with nerves the first lap or two until i got the hang of it. Maybe I’ll take you on a hot lap next year,” your reply is met with a small hum and nod in agreement. “I did miss this though. Maybe I should’ve done a second year in F2,” you change the topic and Jack stops briefly to look at you properly.
“Don’t say that. You are doing great in Indycar, you are a reserve driver for F1, and you are making a debut this weekend as one of the best in the world. That’s more than a lot of drivers could ask for. You have talent and another year there wouldn’t change that,” Jack gives you a pep talk just like he would when you were teammates.
“Thanks, I needed to hear that. We need to stay connected after this race. I need my friend,” you nudge him lightly with your elbow.
“We will, maybe we can even go on vacation during the summer break,” Jack proposes as you near the Alpine motorhome.
“I’ll hold you to that,” you give him a smile before walking away. One of the Mclaren team members takes the spot beside you and gives you a run down of the day. Many sponsor videos, social media videos - including a rapidfire get to know you- meetings, and a track walk later, you are finally done for the day. Your phone dings with a text, but Oscar stops you before you can read it.
“I’m getting dinner with Charles and Max if you’d like to join?” Oscar offers.
“Can I let you know once we get back to the hotel? I need to get away from here before I can decide,” you stifle a yawn. A nap would also be preferred, maybe ordering in is the move.
“Yeah, let’s head out, it’s been a long day,” Oscar’s tone doesn’t sound annoyed, keeping you from worrying. One you get into the car you check your phone, seeing multiple texts. Some from Christian and Nolan asking about your first day in the paddock, and one from an unknown number. You open it up and a smile creeps onto your face.
Hey, it’s Liam. I got your number from Jack so I hope this is the right one. I’m at the same hotel as you and figured I’d ask if you wanted to grab dinner :)
Your reply is quick, asking if he doesn’t mind ordering in and watching a movie, to which he quickly replies yes. You send him your room number and tell him you will let him know when you’re back.
“I’m going to pass on dinner, maybe after the race?” you offer an alternative.
“That’s okay, I’ll ask them about Sunday. I know it’s a lot your first night,” Oscar reassures you.
Once you get back to your room you quickly make it look presentable and change into more cozy attire. Hopefully Liam doesn’t mind your laid back appearance. He shows up a couple minutes after you text with a pizza wearing an oversized tee and basketball shorts.
“I hope you don’t mind me bringing a pizza, Jack actually recommended it,” Liam says, setting it on the desk by the TV.
“I think I know why you are here,” you sit on the bed, watching Liam fidget like you’ve figured out his deepest secret. “You want an excuse to watch Cars,” at your words he visibly relaxes.
“Yeah, you caught me. I was betting on you watching it tonight,” Liam hands you a plate with a warm slice of pizza on it. It smells heavenly. You both sit at the top of the bed, backs against the headboard, as you log into Disney+ and start the movie.
“Okay, Here We Go. Focus. Speed. I’m speed. One winner. 42 losers. I eat losers for Breakfast. Breakfast? Wait, maybe I should have had breakfast? A little brecky could be good for me. No, no, no, stay focused. Speed! I'm faster than fast, quicker than quick! I’m Lightning!” you and Liam say in unison with the movie. You lock eyes and share a small shy smile.
“Lightning. Is that where Jack got his nickname for you?” Liam asks as the sound of engines and Sheryl Crow fills the room.
“Yeah. It’s kinda embarrassing but I say that to get in the zone before a race. Jack and the team caught me once when I left the radio button on,” you flush as Liam chuckles.
“That’s cute. I read somewhere that some lucky fans get you to recite it for them,” Liam’s eyes watch you blush deeper in embarrassment before you turn it around on him.
“Looking me up now on the internet, Lawson?” your eyes are filled with amusement as it’s Liam’s turn to blush and stutter an excuse. “Relax, I’m just joking,” you smile and settle back into the movie.
As the movie nears its end your eyes begin to get heavy. The dark room lit only by the television, the warmth of Liam beside you, and familiar sound of Cars all work to lull you into sleep. Liam notices the way your head seems to get heavier and your fight to stay awake, but he doesn’t mention it.
“Thanks for watching with me, and the pizza,” you yawn after the movie, escorting him to the door.
“Thanks for letting me crash your room,” Liam yawns as well.
The next night you find yourself inviting Liam over for the second movie and once again you are both laying on your bed with the television lighting the room. Only this time Liam sits closer to you, and you don’t mind.
“I heard you play guitar,” you say randomly, grabbing the attention of the blonde boy beside you.
“I do, who’s the stalker now?” Liam teases.
“It popped up on my feed,” you defend yourself before turning your attention to the movie. “Do you think Lewis watches himself in this, and if he does do you think it’s weird?” you ask, grabbing Liam’s attention again.
“I don’t know, but i’m sure it is weird to see yourself in car form,” Liam’s reply isn’t met with a response by you, instead you both get drawn in by the cheesy spy plot. You discuss track strategy for some of the races on the movie.
As the movie nears its end, Liam feels a weight on his shoulder. Your deep breaths tell him all he needs to know, you are fast asleep. The flutter in his heart is strange. He doesn’t want to move, he wants to stay in this spot the rest of the night. Maybe even wrap his arms around you and fall asleep himself. But you are just friends. So Liam turns off the movie and carefully puts a blanket over you, making sure he leaves quietly as to not disturb you.
You wake a few minutes later in a slight panic, confused where Liam went and why the television is off. The buzz from the text you just received answers your panic. With a yawn, you get comfortable again and fall back to sleep.
The next night you fall into the same pattern, only this time Liam falls asleep too. Your phones alarm wakes both of you up the next morning. Liam’s arm is around your waist, which he quickly pulls away when you both realize what happens.
“Shit, my phone is dead,” Liam breaks the silence, not even acknowledging that you were cuddling just a moment ago.
“It’s early, I like to wake up earlier than usual on race days,” you reassure him, sitting up as the early morning sun streams through the curtains.
“I feel like I should treat you to breakfast, make up for the skipped steps,” he scratches the back of his neck, looking guilty despite his lack of control over the situation.
“It’s not your fault you fell asleep, you don’t have to,” you attempt to refuse. Liam’s heart swells a little at the blush dusting your cheeks. How can you look so good this early in the morning?
“I insist, it’ll make me feel better,” Liam insists as your stomach growls.
“But we both are in no shape to be seen in public,” you give a last ditch excuse despite your inner pull to him.
“I’ll meet you back here in twenty minutes so I can charge my phone and change,” Liam smiles and leaves your room after gathering his things.
As soon as the door clicks closed, you rush to get a shower and get ready. And as you stand in front of the mirror putting final touches on your quick makeup look, you wonder why it feels like a date and why you have that mix of nerves and excitement. The knock on your door tells you Liam has arrived.
You open the heavy door to see him in a well fitting button down and tailored dress pants.
“You look nice,” you can’t fight the blush that rises to your cheeks as you grab your small purse from the table beside the door.
“So do you,” Liam does a better job at hiding his blush. Maybe it’s because you want to stare at him but also feel like you might combust if you meet his gaze. It’s probably that.
Liam takes you to the cute restaurant attached to the hotel. Thankfully you are early enough to secure a table since breakfast service just started.
Neither of you notice fans taking photos, you are too immersed in your conversation. You swap random race stories and funny things you’ve had to do for social media. You get to know each other on a deeper level too. You share setbacks alongside your successes, the family that supported you, and the ones who said you wouldn’t make it beyond karting. Liam learns that you weren’t a part of any junior program and it was almost pure luck you got picked up my Mclaren. The only thing that takes your attention away from Liam is the sound of familiar voices.
“Y/n,” you hear Christian almost shout in your ear.
“When did you guys get here?” you shoot out of your seat and nearly tackle your teammates.
“Last night, we texted you that we were on the way to the hotel,” Nolan looks around you at Liam, trying to figure out what you are doing.
“I was probably asleep, I passed out while watching-“
“Cars,” Nolan and Christian finish your sentence.
“It was Cars 3 actually,” Liam adds from his seat.
“Guys, this is Liam. He races for one of the Red Bull teams,” you give a very basic introduction despite both of them knowing who Liam is.
“Ah, the F1 version of you. Wait, how does he know what you were watching?” Nolan asks and gasps when he thinks he connected the dots.
“Accidental sleepover, and not in that way,” you shake your head. Liam glances at his watch and stands up.
“I’ve got the bill, we need to get to the track,” Liam tells you.
“Thanks for breakfast,” you fight the urge to kiss his cheek and stand awkwardly before Christian pulls you away.
“You two are worse than middle schoolers with a crush,” Nolan says in the elevator back to your room. You guffaw at the statement until Christian gives you a look.
“It’s clear you both like each other. Fans are already pointing out the way you two are always together in the paddock and how you look at each other,” Christian’s words take you aback a bit.
“I’ve known him for three days,” your defense is weak.
“They are calling you McQueen and Sally, but Liam is Sally for some reason. Anyway it’s also, according to fans, a star-crossed lovers tragedy,” Nolan pulls up a Tiktok that highlights your apparent crush. Your mind starts to spin as you step off the elevator.
“Alright, enough of that. She needs to focus on the race,” Christian changed the topic to their flight. You notice a box outside of your hotel room door.
“We dropped this here when you didn’t answer the door. Marketing sent us with matching outfits,” Nolan explains and picks up the box so you can get into your room. Inside the box are cheesy t-shirts with your faces on them and sunglasses. They look like a cheesy Danny DeVito t-shirt you would find on Etsy and they are perfect.
“Oh my god,” you laugh, holding it up to show Nolan and Christian.
“Can we wear these to Mid-Ohio next week?” Nolan laughs with you, grabbing his.
“Absolutely,” Christians agreement is music to your ears. You put it over your sundress, tying it in the back with a hair tie to make it look better on you.
Nolan and Christian take turns in the bathroom to change while you finish packing your race bag.
“I’ve got the door,” Nolan says as he exits the bathroom, quick to answer whoever is knocking.
“Ready to- oh those are glorious,” Oscar laughs, noticing the three of you.
“They sent an extra if you want to match,” you reply.
“That’s all you. Lily is downstairs with the extra paddock passes,” Oscar tells you. Nolan and Christian follow you and Oscar like baby ducks.
“I love the matching outfits. How was your breakfast?” Lily asks you, almost ignoring Oscar.
“Really good, wait how did you-“
“I saw the new tiktoks. Fans are convinced you are secretly dating Liam. A lot are upset you won’t be reunited until COTA,” Lily shrugs.
“I don’t know if I’ll even be at COTA,” you shake your head as you all pile into the car. It’s a tight squeeze but you manage. Once you get to the track, Lily and Oscar go ahead of you, per Marketing’s instructions.
“I won the sprint race here in 2020,” Christian says as you scan in, demonstrating for Nolan.
“You know, sometimes I forget you guys raced the European circuit and not the American,” Nolan says once he successfully scans in.
“I’ll look into a hot lap experience for you on a European circuit,” you pat his shoulder.
“Nice shirt, Lightning,” Jack approaches, looking polished in his well-fitting tee and jeans.
“Thanks! Want one? I’m sure I can get you one,” you grin. “Guys, this is my former teammate, Jack. Jack, these are my teammates, Nolan and Christian,” your introduction is quick as both parties size eachother up.
“I watched Cars with her almost every weekend, and gave her her nickname,” Jack boasts as you fight laughter.
“I crash her couch and go to Disneyland with her to visit Cars Land,” Nolan attempts to show up Jack.
“Alright, enough dick measuring,” Christian shakes his head.
“Good luck today,” Jack pats your shoulder at walks away as you yell a quick ‘you too’ behind him.
The three of you continue on and make it to the McLaren motorhome before you are too late. The endless meetings, warm ups, and pre-race duties make the morning fly by and before you know it you are on a truck for the drivers parade beside Fernando Alonso and Liam.
“I drove Indy three times, very scary,” Fernando leans into you slightly like he’s sharing a deep secret.
“That’s what makes it fun. Nothing like getting shunted into a corner,” your eyes sparkle with amusement as Fernando lets out a small laugh.
“You are very brave,” his reply is enough to make you want to fangirl.
“You are too, um, everyone here is,” you awkwardly reply in an attempt to keep your cool.
“Smooth, y/n,” Liam smiles. Fernando slips away to talk to Lance, leaving you alone with Liam. Oscar is in deep conversation with Max and Charles on the other end of the truck, and Jack is laughing at something Pierre told him.
“I can’t help it. THE Fernando Alonso complimented me,” your body is a little jumpy, charged with excited energy. Someone reminds you to wave to fans as you pass a poster with your face on it. “Wow, look at that,” you point the poster out to Liam. As you lean in slightly, arm extended, someone accidentally bumps into you, sending you into Liam’s arms.
“Careful, don’t want you going viral for falling over,” Liam’s hands are warm as they hold onto your waist a second too long. His pinky brushes your bare skin as your polo rides up slightly. Your eyes lock with his, momentarily forgetting about the cameras and fans watching.
“Y/n,” Oscar calls you over, breaking the small spell you were under.
“I should go,” you stand up, subtly fixing your polo as you scurry across the vehicle to join your temporary teammate.
You don’t see Liam at all after the parade or race. There is a twinge of disappointment when you return to the hotel that you hadn’t received a congratulations about scoring points in a notoriously hard-to-drive car.
“Are your bags packed?” Christian asks as he lays on your hotel bed.
“Mostly. I just want to shower and change first. You guys should too,” you look up from your suitcase to find Nolan curled up on the hotel couch fast asleep.
“We can wake him later,” Christian shrugs as you take your things into the bathroom to start a shower. As the water runs he scrolls through social media, not realizing how much time has passed until he hears the buzzing of your hair dryer. He quickly pulls off his shirt and rummages through his bag to find a comfortable replacement.
A knock on the door makes Christian stop and head towards the small entryway.
“I’ve got it,” you emerge from the bathroom, dressed in a robe and hair still slightly damp. Christian stands awkwardly behind you as you pull open the door. “Hey Liam, what’s up?”
“Hey, I,” Liam spots Christian behind you and the state of dressing between both of you. “I just wanted to tell you to have a safe flight back to the States,” Liam takes a step away from the door, his eyes steeling themselves as he begins to walk away.
“Oh, okay. You have a safe trip too,” your voice is twisted in confusion as you back away from the doorway and close the door. Christian is tugging on a hoodie as Nolan snores softly. “That was weird,” you say to yourself before going back to the bathroom to finish getting ready for your flight.
The video of you and the boys wearing matching shirts goes great with fans, the shirts almost immediately selling out on the website. But what goes more viral are the video compilations of you and Liam over the weekend, more viral than before the race.
When you return to Indianapolis, your PR manager sets up a meeting to go over the weekend and the supposed relationship between you and Liam. Even better, following your successful stand-in, McLaren announces your participation in FP1 at Vegas and some races you’ll be attending as a reserve driver.
You do end up joining Jack on a mini vacation on an island beach soaking up the sun and slowing down for a few days. Oddly enough, you don’t hear much from Liam. He doesn’t like your posts or comment - much to the chagrin of fans - and you don’t receive many texts or replies. Even when you win a race you only hear from Jack and Oscar.
Nolan tags along with you to Vegas after you crashed his California residence for a week as a belated birthday gift. Unfortunately for him he got placed in a separate hotel, although it is beside the resort you were placed in. You split the drive, neither willing to play passenger princess for the whole trip.
“Remember, no gambling your life savings away,” Nolan reminds you as he drops you off at your resort.
“Same goes to you,” you fire back.
“I’m just barely enough to,” he gives you a lazy shrug and smile before pulling away. You aren’t really surprised that he called you old and left, it’s a very little brother thing to do.
“Welcome to Las Vegas, Miss L/n,” a concierge welcomes you and makes you jump slightly in surprise.
“Thank you,”
“Follow me to the front desk, we will have your bags placed in your room,” the concierge instructs. You watch your bags be taken away in a mix of surprise and delight. You’ve never experienced this kind of treatment, ever. This doesn’t even seem normal for anyone except for maybe Lewis.
“Hey, meet me back down here in half an hour. You promised dinner last time,” Oscar walks past you holding a coffee.
You barely settle into the hotel room before a ten-minute reminder text has you heading towards the elevator. You don’t want to chance being late, even in a city dedicated to lady luck.
“Ready to go?” Oscar asks, fixing the cuff of his button down. “You look nice, black suits you well,” he nods affirmatively, like you made the right choice. You walk into one of the many high-end restaurants housed in the resort to find you are the first two to arrive. Lando appears shortly after, taking a seat beside Oscar. Charles and Max follow with Carlos right behind, leaving one empty seat beside you.
“Sorry I’m a little late,” a familiar voice sounds from just behind you.
“You all remember Y/n, she drove for Lando earlier in the season,” Oscar reintroduces you as you try to look anywhere but the man beside you.
“Hey, thanks for letting me join,” you awkwardly smile and wave.
“It would be helpful if you replace Oscar this race, help me close up the Championship,” Charles jokes.
“Oscar said that you raced seven weekends in a row due to stepping in, how did that go?” Max asks and you feel every set of eyes on the table look at you. Mostly in a bit of shock. Heat rises up your neck in a sort of embarrassment from the attention.
“It was brutal in the best way possible. I won the 275 in Iowa, which was nice. The oval is super short, high-banked, and insanely fast,” your face lights up as you tell a quick story of recovering after almost spinning out into the wall.
“I think I would curl up in a ball and not leave my bed for a week if I did that,” Lando says before everyone starts to browse the menu and chat with their neighbors.
“So… how have you been?” Liam hesitantly starts a conversation.
“Now you care?” you don’t look up from the menu, voice laced with irritation and a hint of resentment.
“What do you mean?” you force yourself to look at Liam for the first time that night, his eyes filled with confusion.
“You show up at my hotel room and immediately run away, then you ghost me the rest of the summer other than a forced congratulations text every so often,” you take a deep breath to calm yourself, eyes softening with hurt. “I thought we were friends.”
“We are. I just didn’t want to overstep, especially with your relationship with Christian. I probably should’ve asked about that way earlier in the weekend-“
“Hold up,” you cut him off. “My relationship? With Christian?” you pause and rewind to that evening. “Oh my god. Nolan was there too, we were just getting ready to fly back here. All of us changed in my room and, oh my god you thought we had,” you run a hand through your hair as the dots connect.
“So you aren’t?”
“God no, I love them like my brothers and nothing more,” you fight off a laugh.
“Oh, well that’s good to know,” Liam shakes his head.
“Seems like our plan worked,” Oscar leans slightly towards Lando as they watch you and Liam make up.
“Better than Max’s idea,”
“What was his idea?”
“You don’t want to know,” Lando shakes his head.
“Young love,” Charles sighs. “It’s a shame they will be apart most of the year,”
“Buzzkill,” Oscar frowns. The plan was unintentional. They originally invited Jack, but he couldn’t make it and suggested Ollie, then Lando suggested Liam after watching the hundredth TikTok speculating what happened between you and Liam. It was a whole thing.
You leave the dinner first, citing a long day of driving. Liam follows after you, but only after everyone at the table gave him a pointed look and told him to go. He catches you just as you step into the elevator.
“Oh, what floor do you need?” you ask, reaching out to the control panel to press whichever floor he tells you.
“53, wait that’s not why I’m here,” Liam shakes his head as your brows furrow.
“Then why would you be in an elevator, if you aren’t going to your room?” you ask as the doors slide shut.
“To do this,” he steps forward, gently placing a hand on your cheek and neck as he pulls you close. Your eyes flutter closed, the warmth of his breath tickling your nose for a moment as he hesitates ever so slightly before you feel the warmth of his lips on yours. Passion and longing, regret, it’s all poured into the intimate act as you arch into him. He only pulls away when the elevator dings, signaling that you’ve reached your floor.
“Are you coming?” you ask as you step off towards your room.
“Yeah,” Liam quickly follows after you.
“So, how was last night?” Oscar asks as you sit across from him and Lando trying to enjoy your meal.
“It was good, Liam and I watched Cars after dinner,” you pause, watching Oscar and Lando’s reactions. The visible disappointment is satisfying as you look back down at your meal then at them again. “Of course that was after the sex,” your smirk sets them off, as much as they can celebrate without drawing too much attention to themselves.
“We did it!” Lando cheers, throwing his arm around Oscar and shaking him.
“Jack was equally happy,” you mention your friend who dragged you to a late breakfast earlier in the day. You returned the favor by making him join you for a spa day. Those pictures will be much appreciated by your Instagram followers.
“He knew before us?” Lando’s offended tone makes you chuckle.
“I’ve known Jack much longer than both of you, no offense,”
“Offense taken,” Lando says as Oscar replies “none taken.”
“Right, well I’m going to see my boyfriend before my practice session,” you take the last bite of your meal and stand up, hiding your laughter as both men’s eyes widen.
“BOYFRIEND?!”

Tips for making a radio play
We've had a lot of experience making this show, and we've seen a lot of series come and go or even crash and burn before they begin. So we're going to give some tips to hopefully help people avoid the crashing and burning.
1: Start Small
A lot of people make the mistake of starting with a grand idea in mind, like "We're going to do an epic with 3 seasons that comes with animatics, original music, and a large cast of characters and-" Slow down. You don't even know what you're capable of yet, so it's a really bad idea to plan so far ahead without knowing what you can do and how much effort it takes to do it. Before you decide to dedicate yourself to something on a grand scale, start with something small to test the waters. A pilot is a good way to really understand the process and give an audience a chance to get interested. This pilot should not be as long as a full episode unless you plan for your episodes to be relatively short anyways. There should be a small cast, 2-5 characters at most generally. You don't need to go all-in with the pilot, just use what you have to do it and hopefully it should garner enough attention to get more people on board in your project team. Even after your pilot, make small goals. Plan for say, 5 episodes at first, and plan for more once you've gotten a flow and idea of production time and how long you want to be working on this project. Radio plays take a lot of time and effort, they aren't as easy as they seem.
2: Don't Cast Too Early
This is a big one that a lot of people tend to do that's a huge mistake to be making. Do not cast your characters way ahead of when you're going to need them. Generally, you should have your next script done FIRST before you cast the characters for it, and even if you have scripts done for multiple episodes ahead of time, do not cast unless you plan to get the lines done ASAP. You do not want to have idle voice actors waiting a really long time before they can even record lines, because this is a good way to lose voice actors or have people feel you don't really know what you are doing or how to organize a project. The exception to this rule is if you know someone really well and you know they want the role and they will stick around for it. It's good to cast people you are closer with as long term characters than expecting strangers to volunteer all their time, which leads into our next tip...
3: Don't Expect Too Much From People
Unless you plan on paying people, don't expect too much hard work from others. Don't expect voice actors to stay on for years and years and years. Don't expect a musician to volunteer original music for free. Don't expect artists to draw a bunch of scenes or animatics. Expect to start with basic resources, like stock music and one piece of cover art. If people want to volunteer more, they will come in time once you've shown your project is legitimately producing content. People are generally not going to just hop on board when you have no credentials and no examples of what you're capable of.
4: Quality Control
You need to have certain standards of quality, and you need to understand what that means. For example, no matter how much you might like someone's voice, if they have a bad microphone there is no fixing that audio, it will be unpleasant to edit and even more unpleasant for an audience to listen to. You can't just chuck together whatever audio you get or have, you need to research how to clean up noise, how to master vocals, how to level volumes, how to make sure your sound effects are good quality and not distractedly bad. Thankfully, Audacity which is a free program can handle most of your audio editing needs and there are plenty of tutorials for it on youtube so there's no reason not to study this stuff before you dive in.
5: Organization
This one's important. You need an organized system for getting everything done. Have checklists, organized folders, a proper place for crew to communicate. Discord is excellent for organizing a project because you can make different channels for different purposes within one server, such as a place for auditions, a place to submit lines, a place to post art, a place to give instructions, and you can make certain channels accessible to only specific people so spoilers aren't getting out to the wrong people. The more organized your project is, the smoother things will run.
6: Don't Overwork Yourself
It's very tempting to just do all the hard work on your own, like doing all the vocal editing, all the SFX, placing all the music, doing all the scripting. And at first, you'll probably have no choice but to do this. But as your project gets bigger, you should start to divide out the roles for other people to do, otherwise you risk burnout. It might feel fun to get all these things done on your own, but after a while it's going to feel tedious and it's often going to take more time to do. It's okay to have people you trust work on scripts, you would still be the director of what that script is about but you might be surprised what other people can come up with. It might be difficult to find a good audio editing crew but it's worth it if you do.
7: Be Willing to Take Criticism
Nobody's perfect, and sometimes people will have constructive criticism about your project. Don't see criticism as failure, see it as an opportunity to improve. For example, if you're having a hard time casting a character and you hear a lot of people saying they don't want to audition for the character because they don't like the character, don't sit there insisting your writing is gold and everyone else is just rude. Examine why people don't like the character, and adjust. If you notice people aren't really jumping on board with your project, swallow your pride and ask why. Try to figure out what it is that needs improvement, and then move forward with it.
8: Have Voice Actors Record Multiple Takes
Be sure that you're not just getting one take of lines, because you never know when a line might not sound right, or if a different delivery would sound better. Have at least 3 takes of every line recorded, and encourage your voice actors to try different kinds of deliveries. This way you have a much bigger chance of getting quality lines and the best takes!
9: Don't Rely on Artwork
This is an AUDIO drama, you CAN NOT expect everyone to be watching the video if you release a video with it. Some people just play these in the background, or download them to listen while they drive. If you're expecting people to understand what's going on from the artwork alone, you're doing something wrong. Imagine your script not having any images to go with it, and try to imagine what people are going to get out of purely listening. There are a lot of clever ways to help people visualize things without an actual visual. Artwork should be a bonus, not a requirement.
9B: Don't Script Visual Only Cues
Speaking of not relying on art, this goes with the above and is an issue a lot of beginners have. Scripting things like "the character smiles", "character waves", "character stands up" is not helpful for sound design. You need to figure out how those would be conveyed if they are important, like for smiling have the prompt for the actor you can have [Said happily] for a tone, a [shuffle] for standing up, a [whooshing] for waving with a character saying something like 'I'm waving as hard as I can!'. Sound effects and exposition are your friends in radio plays, soundless actions are not.
10: Be Careful About Vocal Effects
Vocal effects can be really cool! You can make someone sound like a demon, or a ghost, or some kind of magical creature. But you also need to be really careful about using those effects, because they can very easily make a person's voice hard to understand. This tip doesn't always work, but sometimes you can have the original voice line overlay the effect and make the effect quieter to keep the voice more clear. Run the effects voices by other people to make sure they can understand them.
11: Organization and Communication is Important
Radio plays have a lot of stuff that goes into them. There's a lot of files, often a lot of people, and a lot of tasks and instructions that need to be made. Discord is an excellent messenger to organize a radio play in, where you can organize things by topic in channels and assign roles to people to make sure they have special access to specific channels so other people don't get content they're not supposed to. You also need to make sure you are communicating with everyone and make sure everyone is on the same page. A discord server can help with this by having things like an announcement channel, an auditions channel, a channel to submit lines, etc. Google docs is also a great resource to keep everyone updated, where you can make things like art claims, and progress checklists, and share scripts. You can change permissions on the documents to let people comment or edit, either anyone viewing it or specific people who can be given access. The more organized you are, the faster things will get done and the more your team will respect the project.
12: Format Your Scripts to be Reader Friendly
We had some fairly messy looking scripts in the past, where there was nothing really making the character names stand out from the rest. Lines weren't spaced properly, names weren't bolded, and as a result voice actors would often miss lines on accident or not realize where a line ended or began. Now, you don't have to format it like we do, but you at least need to make it clear when a new line is being spoken and by who. Space new lines apart. What we do is we bold all the character names at the start of the lines and change the paragraph settings to adding a space after each paragraph. This makes it so when a character has a longer line, the spacing remains close together, but a new line from a new character will be spaced away from the previous line. As a bonus, we highlight all the character names in specific colors for specific characters (Not too bright colors!) and this has majorly solved the issue of people missing their lines and we have gotten many compliments for this formatting.
13: Be Kind and Respectful to Your Crew
I really shouldn't have to say this, but it is incredibly important that you respect the people you're working with. More than likely, they are volunteering their time to you, and you have no right to disrespect them by pushing them, tossing them to the side, being picky with them, getting into arguments, rejecting their feedback, etc. You shouldn't even be treating them like this if you were paying them. If you want people to stay and to provide quality content, they will be at their best when you treat them well
14: Listen a Few Times Before Release
So the audio is done, time to make a video and release it! Right? Wrong! You still need to do more quality control! This time you should listen through a few times and pay close attention to any issues that may occur, such as odd pauses, misplaced sound effects, or accidentally repeated lines. This can be easy to miss if you're not paying attention, and once it's out, your mistakes will be out there for everyone to hear.
15: Don't Get a Big Head
On the one hand, it's good to be proud of your work... but on the other, there's such a thing as being too confident and too prideful, especially if you haven't made a reputation for yourself yet. No matter how good you think your ideas might be, you yourself are not going to be the true judge of that. It's up to other people if they like what you have to give, and if they don't like it, there's probably a good reason for it and you may need to take a big bite of humble pie. This is where you need to be open to feedback and realize no one is perfect, no one has the most amazing idea with no flaws. Even we have made a lot of mistakes and will continue to do so, and we know we are always learning. And because of that, we try to listen to constructive feedback. Sure, we can't do everything people want, but we can try to at least improve. Basically, don't boast without knowing what people actually think of your work, and if they don't like it, don't blame them; be ready to look at yourself.
Also, don't put down other creators' work in order to boast about how much better you could or did do it. We're not here to fight, we're not here to compete, we're all just here making something we're supposed to love and be passionate about. It doesn't matter if you honestly think your work is better, having a nasty attitude about it is not going to make people confident in your work. They're just going to see you as someone with no respect for the craft and therefor probably not having the talent you claim you have.
16: Be Able and Willing to Contribute
So you have this idea, and you want to make it happen. What are YOU going to do to do that? The thing is, if you're going to be the one in charge of this project, you're going to need to pick up a lot of skills of your own to do whatever you can for it. You can't always rely on having other writers, or other voice actors, or other editors, etc. The more tasks you can make yourself available for, the better. I'm not saying you have to do everything or even do a whole lot, but the more you are at least able to do if need be, the more you can overcome hurdles such as losing an editor for whatever reason. I think, at the very least, when you're making a radio play you should be able to manage the writing and audio/video editing. Managing the writing shouldn't just be 'here's a small summary of what i want, write it for me', it should involve at least an outline or a collection of notes for what you had in mind, or you should work with people on the writing process by tossing around ideas. If you're just going to be an ideas person who has everyone else perform the creative tasks to make it real, you're going to have a lot of hang ups and you're not going to understand or value the work people put in nearly as much as you would if you learned the process yourself. Your crew might start feeling like you're not actually contributing much and that you're depending on them for everything to happen.
That's all we could think of for now, but if we think of more tips we'll add them to this post and reblog it to show the new ones. We hope this helps!

Hey man I just wanted to give you condolences for how hard this work shit is causing you to struggle. Just one of those things everyone has their own crosses to bear in regards to toxic workplaces. If you are considering a change in careers I'm sure it can't be too hard to translate your experience to somewhere less intense.
Thank you 😭
I just need to get out of this specific place to somewhere that let's me rest and get my ducks in a row from here. It sucks to be at a part of my life where I realize I'm not doing what makes me happy and I have to start all over. My 20s have felt like an endless cycle of starting all over honestly, but my family tells me that's normal for your 20s and it's why they suck so bad and that I'm doing fine for a 25 year old. They've told me in a worst case scenario I could come crash with them and be a paid farmhand at my aunt and uncles cattle ranch while I figure things out, but I'm not a country guy at all. It would make me so much mentally worse to leave the city, but at least I have a nuclear option if things really blow up in my face. I'm not in danger of being utterly out of work with no roof over my head or food to eat.
I think the security industry has just gone to hell honestly. It used to be a respectable and livable job where you were trusted to handle things and weren't expected to put your life on the line for customer service experience or whatever. You could bring your books and little things to play with while on guard duty because no one expected you to just stare at the fucking wall for 8 straight hours if there was nothing to respond to. I actually first got into security early on in uni because it allowed me to do my schoolwork at work so I could balance school and finances without being utterly devoid of free time or sacrificing my sleep. As long as the checklist got done and the building was still standing at the end of my shift, they were happy.
Now they treat us like a hybrid between emergency responders and customer service representatives. We aren't emergency responders, we're supposed to be the mid ground responders. Yknow, the incidents that need intervention but aren't threats to public safety. You don't call the cops on someone screaming at the service staff or the fire department when you lock yourself out, you call security. In recent years it's turned into "well what can you do to both curtail actual emergencies and make their *experience* better?" That's not my job!! Nowhere in my job description or certifications does it say I'm a first responder! I'm not supposed to be! I'm the guy who assigns tasks and keeps everyone's head screwed on when the emergencies happen but I am not the guy who puts my own life in danger to solve them. Do not ask me to do that for 23 bucks an hour and no mental health benefits and then ask me why the guy screaming at me wasnt happy with his experience today, what's wrong with all of you
Luckily my old work friend got out and found work doing like, proper big boy government aviation security for celebrities and political figures. She tells me there's no drama or mean girl bullshit there because there's only like 5 of them and there's no need to prove themselves to each other. And it starts a whole wealth bracket above what I make now. I gave her my credentials and CV and she said she'd pass them on and put in a good word for me, so I hope that goes somewhere. Other than that my like regular schedule now is waking up and going right to my pc to open the city job board and hitting apply on everything I even remotely could do
Sorry this turned into a bit of a rant man, I really do appreciate the gesture. And as a general sentiment, please be nice to security guards. We're going through enough as it is

the thing is though that these checklists don’t mean if you have BPD it is not allowed that you have nightmares / if you have CPTSD you are legally obligated to never experience impulsiveness etc etc; it’s not just “making stuff up” — though ig in the strictest sense yeah, first you make stuff up but then you test it and see if your hypotheses align with the population. Basically chances are if you meet 8/9 BPD criteria and some for CPTSD but not enough to meet the diagnostic standard (which afaik isn’t recognized just yet but i think they’re trying to get it recognized in the diagnostic manuals but correct me if i’m wrong) then it’s pretty likely you’re going to respond better to BPD treatment and ALSO if your practitioner completely ignores one diagnosis in favor of the other they’re probably not that good at their job. Psychology doesn’t speak in “rules” and absolutes, it speaks in trends and likelihoods and everyone trying to sell you a 100% true and immovable psychology fact is a sham
as someone who unfortunately has a degree in psychology (and whose undergrad began right as the infamous replication crisis became more widely acknowledged in the field), yes, historically a lot of this field is bias and hegemony imbued with some metric. when homosexuality was still classified as a mental disorder, the conversion therapy program by masters and johnson (who were like, some of the earliest pioneers of research into human sexual responses lmao) would often boast high success rates due to participants merely adopting signifiers of heterosexuality. the modern day pop psychology movement (and it's subfields, new ageism, self help books, uhhh Market Christianity) also cannot be disentangled from academic psychology, which further bends the way in which people understand and interact with psychological phenomena. this of course does not mean that all data is junk data, or that methods of measurement are without some rigor, or that therapy is completely useless, but it's just patently incorrect to insist that this field is even predominantly an apolitical force attempting to further our understanding of human beings. it's bizarre that you acknowledge that credentialized individuals in the field can be flawed while also being uncritical of psychological categorization for mental illness.
It's not that I don't get what you're saying, but it's not reflective of reality. yes, I know that practitioners are supposed to help you feel out your symptoms and see what treatment works for you, but that isn't just what they're doing (assuming it's even being done with care and competence). it's inaccurate to insist that psychology doesn't speak in absolutes- I know that we are taught not to do this, but for any social science related field this is the equivalent of going "stop hitting yourself". in any practical real-world setting where accredited institutional psychology is present, there are rules. in a clinical setting, there are rules, and you can be inpatiented against your will for breaking those rules (or recently here in canada, randomly stripped of your driver's license). in neuromarketing (<- yes this is a real discipline.), which is intensively oriented towards results due to the profit incentive, there are rules. the conditions of release for many offenders necessitates staying on court-mandated medication or participating in specific programs. when H.B. Phrenology from The Heritage Foundation wheels out his thousandth manicured study on crime and race (and when a different journal publishes a study indirectly debunking it), that is him tacitly acknowledging that there are rules.
anyway did I ever tell you guys that in my first year at University of Toronto (UTSC campus baybee) they brought in a guest speaker to my abnormal psych course who gave us a lengthy talk on how autogynephilia theory is objectively true. this was like 2013ish maybe 2014 btw.

How to Choose the Right DEI Consulting Partner for Your Team
The new working environment does not allow companies to consider diversity, equality, and inclusion (DEI) as optional. DEI Consulting is not a trend anymore, the companies need it. A successful DEI partner can guide you to develop an inclusive culture, and build it but the choice of such a partner is not always direct.
Let’s explore how to identify the DEI consulting partner that’s right for your team.
1. Understand Your Organization’s Needs
Before you begin your search, take a step back and reflect on:
Where does your organization currently stand in its DEI journey?
Are you facing issues in recruitment, retention, workplace culture, or leadership diversity?
Do you need assessments, workshops, long-term strategy—or all of the above?
The answers will help define the type of DEI Consulting services you require.
2. Look for Values Alignment
DEI is deeply personal and values-driven. A strong consulting partner should:
Share your organization’s mission and values
Be culturally competent and inclusive in their own practices
Offer approaches that resonate with your team’s reality
Avoid generic consultants offering one-size-fits-all solutions.
3. Ask for Experience and Case Studies
A qualified DEI consulting firm should provide:
Proven experience across industries or sectors like yours
Measurable results from past clients (e.g., improved employee engagement, increased representation, reduced attrition)
Testimonials or case studies that show real impact
This ensures you’re investing in a partner with credibility and results.
4. Evaluate Their Methodology
Ask potential consultants:
How do they assess your current DEI maturity level?
What tools or frameworks do they use?
Is their approach tailored to your goals?
Look for consultants who prioritize data-driven insights, inclusive training methods, and long-term change—not just quick fixes.
5. Prioritize Partnership, Not Just Service
A DEI Consulting partner isn’t just a vendor—they’re a strategic ally. Choose someone who:
Listens and collaborates closely with leadership and employees
Supports implementation, not just planning
Encourages accountability and growth over time
A sustainable DEI journey needs continuous guidance and honest feedback.
6. Watch Out for Red Flags
Be cautious of:
Consultants who guarantee fast results
Vague language with no clear plan
Lack of diversity within their own team
No measurement or accountability metrics
These signs can lead to wasted investment and minimal impact.
Final Thoughts
Selecting the fitting DEI Consulting partner is one of the most crucial decisions you can make in the future of your team. Focus not only on credentials, choose the person who has an awareness of your situation, will create a strategic direction, and is devoted to lasting change and transformation.
Need help evaluating DEI consultants? Let us know—we can provide a checklist or guide to help you assess your options with clarity and confidence. The Outcast Collective

Slight correction: they weren't giving him a moment to sit down, only to rest his voice. If he sat, he'd cede the floor.
Booker stayed on his feet for twenty-five+ hours. He leaned on the podium towards the end, but he was still eloquent and making good points at the 24 hour mark.
Cory Booker had 12 binders of relevant material to cover, with a checklist on topics such as immigration, freedom of speech, DOGE, firing of federal workers & veterans, threats to judges and lawyers, corruption in the administration, the environment, tariffs, separation of powers, and so on.
That's the second time I've heard Stonewall and Seneca Falls invoked in a speech along with Selma. (The first was in Kamala Harris' Oval speech. Admittedly, I haven't listened to many speeches, because I hate having to pay attention to politics.)
I have some Thinky Thoughts as a former classics scholar, but if you read One More Thing on this event, I'd rather you read this Guardian article, which summarizes some of the key points of WHAT BOOKER ACTUALLY SAID, instead of just what he did:
My take: The Anti-Memory Hole Speech
During the course of those 24 hours, Booker ensured a LOT of information was entered into the Congressional Record, which as far as I know still has physical copies. [Edit: yes, and one can purchase copies, although they're expensive. So presumably there are archived editions outside DC.]
While reviewing the Trump administration's offenses, Booker referred to his notes for quotes with citations from newspaper articles and official government documents, expert and eyewitness sources ranging from scientists and doctors to elected officials and analysts, governors, judges, security experts and economists. Among them were many conservatives raising substantive objections to what Trump is doing.
As a former classics MA, I can tell you that we know about an awful lot of lost works and documents from antiquity only through quoted excerpts like this. Furthermore, in thanking his staff on the kind of work they did to compile his notes, Booker told future historians their credentials, biases and goals.
The Congressional Record is the best hope of preserving this valuable account of the first three months of Trump's reign of terror, as digital records disappear, deteriorate, get altered or deleted.
Cory Booker has been talking in the senate for over 20 hours now
He’s not filibustering. He’s protesting the current administration.
