"Adeline." A large warm hand reached out and shook her shoulder, Adeline groaned and pressed her face into the pillow. 

"There better be a burglar threatening to murder us." She warned. To her right, Cassius frowned, confused. 

"What do you mean?" 

"There better be a burglar threatening to murder us because I know you didn't just wake me up at 2am because you were in the mood." She snapped finally turning to actually look at him. Cash huffed. 

"No burglar, also no mood."

"Then someone's dying?"

"You wish. No. It's your fucking cat. She's meowing. Time for food."

For the first time in a REALLY long time, I got the chance to curl up with a good book today! 📖 👓

(I've mostly read or listened to autobiographies in recent years, so this was a nice change. Back to my late high school/early 2010's OBSESSION!!!! I even doodled everything in that style of font lol)

I raced through the entire Caster Chronicles (Beautiful Creatures) series when each book came out. I just could not put them down! And it seemed like I was the only one on the planet who was reading them (obviously I wasn't, I just didn't know anyone else who was, and told everyone who would listen how great they were). But when this spin-off series released, I picked up the first little thing and then this book and never got around to reading them (life). I later added the last book.

Today, I needed an escape to soothe my racing mind. And I've felt extra summer-y lately. So I wanted a good book with a summer feel to it. I had some options on my bookshelf that I never got to, but of course, I was drawn to this one! And true to form, I couldn't help but hurry through 5 chapters already!

I was pleasantly surprised to realize that the chapters are all named after classic rock songs! I LOVE that! 🖤

shen yuan being animal obsessed to the point he starts trying to take everything remotely friendly home with him so one day returns with the xianxia equivalent of a scraggly possom that hisses at everyone it sees and that is definitely poisonous while still insisting its a little baby that needs a home

airplane never really expanded on the common creature worldbuilding in pidw like pigeons and cats and rabbits and raccoons, so shen yuan started filling in the blanks himself and oh boy did he fill it wrong. he pets a fox-like creature the size of a cow with horns and hooves like it's a horse not knowing that would be like trying to pet a grizzly bear. he coos over the owl-cats that live under overhangs and in dusty attics and really really wants one until liu qingge has to drag him away because they're some of the most awful aggressive pests you can have that swoop down on people and claw their faces open when they're mildly displeased.

one time he walked onto his peak with a six-legged spotted weasel in his sleeve bc it's so cute he just couldn't leave it!! not knowing said weasel is known as one of the most vicious predators because they tear through the calf muscles to cripple prey ten times their size and then eat them alive

however, because shen yuan has the disney princess subclass with a +7 proficiency in animal handling, it never goes wrong. he pets the fox-stag without an issue and it even allows him to climb onto its back. the owl-cats love him and happily play with his robes and fetch things for him. the six legged weasel lazes around the bamboo house all day and loves to be pet. the scaggly possom hisses at and hates everyone except shen yuan.

every other animal had to leave, except the possom. that is a fight they did not win. yue qingyuan only has so much strength and those teary eyes are lethal

My Thoughts: I liked the spinoff. I kind of wish that the ending of the duology had a nice ending for Link. I didn't like the love triangle aspect, but it worked for the books. I wanted more songs from Link since he loved making music. Ridley could have turned Link down without playing with his feelings. Honestly, some of the characters weren't needed. Ethan and Lena could have come back to help. The books aren't bad. I liked seeing Link and Ridley. I was able to read these books in like two weeks or so. They were very easy to read. Very fast paced. I didn't expect to finish the books so fast but I'm glad I did.

Now I want to see how Liv and John's lives are in the UK. I would also like a sequel series on Amma, Macon, and Lila. But that is just me.

SUNILA ARKANS / LEADER OF THE AZURE

Sunila is the last of a lineage of famous hunting cetacean animans. She's one of the few remaining of her family that abandoned fame and hunting for a life of her own. She can often be found engaging with others through street fighting, a fun pass time and a good source of income for her. If you encounter be on edge… Well, not too on edge. She's one of the most hospitable animans out there! Even if she has a sharp, sassy attitude, she makes good company. In addition, she’s a trusted ally of Obasi. For the most part she’s here to keep the peace.

She's a well known street fighter among the smaller communities in Haderia. She even landed a fight against Noctis, the Iron Brusier. Of course, she came out on top. She currently lives in the Kyssaro district in Haderia, settling into her new life, and making a name for herself as a Haderian street legend. The Azure are a more violent vigilante group that's allied with the Phantoms (led by Obasi), and suffice to say, Sunila and Obasi don't always see eye to eye. Though, it can't be denied that together, Obasi and Sunila make for a tactical, effective, and powerful team of mind meets muscle. Overall, Sunila is a very boisterous, loud, and close-minded animan that likes to do things her way. One way or another she'll get the hang of teamwork…

i finished this a few days ago but i've been busy haha. been working hard on references for artfight, and i finally got another done! i think this leaves me at four more that i'm gonna hopefully have done before july... whew! this time, sunila makes a well-deserved comeback with both a new design and updated lore! i mention some settings and worldbuilding here that i haven't yet posted on tumblr, but if you're in my discord server then you may recognize some of the settings and groups mentioned.

i hope to draw and write more of sunila, as she's actually become quite an important secondary character in my book, "blade in the city"! sunila is such a fun character to write.

while i haven't shared any work featuring her yet aside from my book (which, i don't even know when that'll be done lol), i hope to change that with a drabble or two. she and obasi butt heads a lot mostly because sunila is a jerk that doesn't like to listen to others or take them seriously. she's got some personal growth to go through, but i still love her :P
