book recs!! bc i like your writing hihi
thanks for dropping by ate! ah u flatter me 🥺 here, i ended up making a bit of a long list!! i wanted to recommend books that were unforgettable for me.
eleven minutes by paulo coelho; it’s about a girl named Maria and her experiences with the topic of love as she ventures through life.i bought a copy in laguna when I was 8 or 9, thinking that as long as it’s paulo coelho it’s good but then I saw the summary and decided to read it when I hit my teens. it ended up becoming one of my favorites, there’s always something about the way Coelho writes!! contains: prostitution
they both die at the end by adam silvera; two teenage guys find out they’ve only got a day to live. read this when I was 16 and we had the subject personal development in school and I practically rambled all about it throughout the quarter. contains: death ofc
confessions by kanae minato; a teacher seeks revenge for the death of her daughter. read this while relearning how to walk again, i would sit on a chair after a tiring ten steps and then take out my phone to read this, itching to know what happens next because i just have to know! this book started my decision to consume more asian literature and media. contains: bomb, suicide, murder
since you’ve been gone by morgan matson; emily’s best friend disappears, leaving a bucket list to be finished. one of my friends lent this book to me and i’ll be honest, i fell in love with the best friend hehe.
gone girl by gillian flynn; a wife disappears and everything seems to point at the husband being a suspect for murder. read this in cavite, it would me midnight and i would sit outside cause it was so hot and i’d look at the village and imagine our gone girl in there. contains: murder and many mature themes lol
i’ll give you the sun by jandy nelson; twins, noah and jude, used to be inseparable but years later, they barely talk to each other. red this when I was 15 and super angsty gosh hahaha. contains: cheating and sexual violence
the time keeper by mitch albom; a really really old dude meets a teenage girl and a businessman and talks to them about the importance of time. i read this in taguig, in between my trips to the science museum and my evening swims. the person I was staying with had a copy and I borrowed it and I liked the book so much that I regretted not taking it with me throughout my trip back home lol. contains: talks about death/suicide
I've been thinking about which books have kind of, I think, influenced my writing. the one that gives those nostalgic vibes? those would be Why We Broke Up by Daniel Handler; The Siren by Kierra Cass; and The Stranger by Albert Camus

(from right to left: daniel matson (drums), brian butcher (vocals), john baran (guitar), ryne olson (bass))
the home team is a (former pop punk) band from seattle that now makes pop/metal/rnb-influenced alt rock music (aka heavy pop). they're one of my favorite bands right now and i'm shocked that they don't have more fans than they do, so if this sounds interesting i encourage you to check them out!

julsidubs — an introduction
Here’s everything you need to know about this blog and, in extension, me.
THIS BLOG is what I call my creative safe space here on the internet.
I love writing. I love making stories out of my own imagination and my never ending list of “what ifs”. But I used to be a victim of self-doubt. I cared too much about what people think of me and what I do. A lot of times I stopped writing because I was afraid people won’t like it or they might think it’s weird. I’ve been like that for years, and somehow down the road I lost the spark.
Writing paragraphs upon paragraphs of stories used to be second nature to me. My WIPs almost drowned me with the clear goal of finishing all of them. I used to write on Wattpad, then. From One Direction fanfics, Marvel fanfics, to original stories (that had the One Direction members as face claims). But I’m not really a fan of One Direction anymore and my Marvel ideas are buried under a lot of self-doubt now. I can’t seem to find inspiration that really excites me. I have story ideas, sure, but I don’t get the same motivation I do to write them like I had before with my old stories.
Case in point, on this blog I’ll try to return to my old creative soul. I’m determined to find it in order to fulfill my passion and dreams of becoming a writer. I’m going to be completely honest about myself on this blog. What I like and what I don’t—I won’t hide them any longer. This is a space where I can be myself without any worries.
WTHECK is a julsidubs?
The julsidubs username was created in 2015. It’s supposed to be a combination of my name—Julia—and the name of one of my favorite celebrities—Maine Mendoza, who went by “Yaya Dub” because she was famous for her Dubsmahes then. And I just kept it even after all these years. It’s the only username I stuck with for a long time and I don’t plan on changing it any time soon. So I used it for my blog, too.
Basic Facts:
she/her
1998
cancer ☼ taurus ☾
ravenclaw
Loves:
— coffee, lemonade, pizza, pasta, bulgogi, tteokbokki, long drives & commutes, walks, high waist shorts/pants, big tees, denim jackets, glasses, enamel pins, grid notebooks, highlighters, gel pens, rose gold, pastel pink, sunshine yellow, BTS, Taylor Swift, Sheldon Cooper, FRIENDS, Jake Peralta, ITZY, Daniel Howell, Phil Lester, dodie, Aileen Xu.
Faves:
— tv shows Young Sheldon | FRIENDS | Brooklyn 99 | Lucifer
— k-dramas Hotel Del Luna | While You Were Sleeping | Goblin
— movies Game Plan | Princess Diaries 1 & 2 | That Thing Called Tadhana | Mamma Mia | To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before | 50 First Dates | Pride & Prejudice | Late Night
— books
Attachments by Rainbow Rowell The Fault in Our Stars by John Green Saint Anything by Sarah Dessen The Unexpected Everything | Since You’ve Been Gone | Second Chance Summer by Morgan Matson
So... will you write?
That’s the goal! I want to write more BTS fanfictions, mostly, and a couple of Sheldon & Penny drabbles. But I’m really looking forward to writing original works in the future! I think the genre that suits me more is Contemporary YA. It’s the genre I read the most in and the one I’m most interested in.
But for now, I’ll continue to learn and grow and find my back to my creative path.
Until next time!
Love, Juls ♡

City of Davenport June 1st 2023 10am Press Conference
Today's press conference notes:
- Mayor Mike Matson was very hostile, repeatedly said "believe me" "trust me" "i don't know" and didn't directly answer many questions and adamantly described all the hard work first responders were doing (which obviously is their job)
- It is believed that there are only THREE unaccounted for, the other two were found (one already moved out last month and is in Texas, one was in Davenport but not in the building). The remaining three include already mentioned Branden Colvin (whose young son has been sleeping outside of the gate at the scene each night), Ryan Hitchcock (whose parents want him to be recovered, and whose cousin wants the building to be demolished and called protestors violent), and Daniel Prien (whose name has not been mentioned until today). The police chief said it is very likely they are not alive and this is a recovery mission, not a rescue mission, but didn't answer the question on when exactly that changed
- The city maintains that the inspection from last week deemed pass that changed to fail after the first press conference this week was a glitch, however they also said that the inspector (who has since resigned) was meant to initially it as incomplete and then a fail
- They do not know how many units fell or what numbers they were
- The Fire Dept Chief was not there and may not be at the next conference because he is helping with recovery
- The mayor multiple times mentioned that he doesn't want to put an exact timeframe on demolition so we can't criticize him on it later, but he is talking to many "experts" on how to do it in a dignified manner, and expects the recovery to be like an archeological site
- They mayor, when asked, said he does have regrets, but didn't specify what. He said he had pause when looking at docs, but didn't specify from what. He said "this is on me" and wants everyone to only blame and criticize him.
- The landlord Andrew Wold was not present and not mentioned besides his $395, which the mayor said will be discussed at a later time
- The police chief claimed to not be aware that there is video footage going around of one of his officers telling protestors that Lisa Brooks (the woman who was found at her window over 10 hours after rescue searches were initially called off) snuck back into the building. The mayor says he still doesn't know how she was missed in the first search.
- No loved ones of those missing spoke at the mic or were seen.
- There will be another press conference today at 2pm.
So pretty much is that city officials are doing a poor job on how to handle this. Not to mentioned that they were pressured by the community, humane society and multiple rescues to save the pets that were originally trapped within. They were going to demolish the building with the pets inside.
The city doesn't care and neither does the property owner. The protesters have been nothing than respectful and frankly the comment from the cousin was based on race.
We will not stop until these three men are found and that the Slumlord pays for what has happened.
