Between tech bros and tech bro appeasers taking over the industry, the streaming model (an initially positive thing that's been twisted into something obviously not always so great), the pandemic, and the strike, plus the ever present political and global upheaval which has investors/banks biting nails -- Hollywood is not in a good place, and it's being run further and further into the ground by people afraid to take any risks or spend any money -- worse than ever.

That means less specs being bought, less movies being made, less shows being greenlit, and so on. Productions in LA have fallen to historic lows (because what IS being made is increasingly being taken elsewhere for tax credits and lower cost). Output and employment is just not great. And of course fans have become more selective and most studios and executives are simply not remotely on the same page with audiences and viewers anymore and relying too much on algorithms and skewed data (and allowing hateful anti-“woke” mobs to review bomb and doom anything fresh) and then wondering why even their big blockbusters are flopping now as well.

This was supposed to be the year the industry started to bounce back after the pandemic and strike, and while it's gotten better than it was when it was completely at a standstill, and yes movies and tv are still being made, it's just not good. It's not remotely where it should be, let alone anywhere near the level it was pre-pandemic. And even pre-pandemic, we were already seeing a lot of these problems starting to rear their heads...

I mean in the 90s and early 2000s a straight white guy could give a one line pitch to a studio and be handed a million bucks to write it. Or write the most basic ass spec and make a cool couple million for the sale. But now, even the straight white guys have to have a project locked and loaded already with attachments (talent, director, producers) already on board. No one want to develop anything. Everyone wants everyone else to do all the work (aka spend all the time and money) first and then maybe they'll buy the package and make the movie, or distribute a finished product. Imagine what that means for mid to lower level projects entirely. And imagine what that especially means for women/POC/LGBTQ creatives.

Anyway, agencies and reps all thought things would start to really get back on track this year, but it hasn't, really. The town-wide motto being said to writers, actors, directors, etc by Spring/Summer was "survive 'til 25". Now, the new motto is "survive through 25". Now everyone is hoping, somehow 2025 will be a solid recovery year and 2026 might be a genuinely good year again. But it just keeps getting pushed back and looking more and more bleak. A lot of writers, showrunners, etc -- successful ones and newbies alike, are just flat out leaving or preparing to leave the industry entirely, if they haven't already.

And people who are considering making writing, acting, or crew work a career are being flat out told "now is not the time, don't come to Hollywood, don't try to make this a career because there's just not enough work right now, and the career might not exist at all soon". And that's... pretty yikes.

The Strikes, and How the Studios Created This Mess On Purpose

A rant I made on Bluesky the other day:

Here's the thing about Hollywood's payment system: it was working for everybody, and executives saw streaming as a way to fuck everyone else over and make it work exclusively for them. Because that's what executives do. And they convinced everyone to take a bad deal to "test out" the new system.

Then, they threw everything into streaming and, in doing so, eviscerated traditional revenue streams like reruns and home video, both of which had better deals for talent. And they were hoodwinked by tech bros who convinced them the path to profitability was MUCH shorter than it is.

Now those execs, who went all in on streaming SPECIFICALLY as a predatory scheme to take more money, are crying poverty because they say it's a losing proposition. And they want people to take a bad deal to underwrite their recovery from self-inflicted wounds.

But at this point, the talent have been living with the previous bad deal for so long a lot of people are being starved out of the industry. So they strike for a fair deal, and what do execs say? "We're going to starve them for this!" You complete fucking CHUDs, what did you think you did before?

Okay, sorry. Got a little off-track there.

Yeah, numbers for streaming are ROUGH. Just like basically every tech startup in the last 15 years, most streamers are nowhere near profitable and living on the largesse of VC money with the promise that if they decimate the market enough that they're the only option, they'll start to make money...but that's really hard for your employees to believe or sympathize with, when they have seen you dump hundreds of millions of dollars into it for a decade. Executives insist they're the smart ones. Why would they throw good money after bad for YEARS?

Meanwhile, stockholders and VC douchebros have been rewarding the gamble for years, living on promises of "we'll be profitable soon" and approving massive CEO pay packages to reward them for finding a way to pay the talent less.

This is all exacerbated by the long history of "Hollywood accounting." Long before the strikes were happening, Ed Solomon was tweeting about the HIGH-larious joke Sony has been playing on talent for years that insists they somehow lost money on 'Men in Black' and so don't owe any residuals.

So when you see companies pouring tons of money into a system, and executives being handsomely rewarded for that system, but you aren't getting paid? Well, it's hard to believe it isn't profitable. After all, these same companies have said for years theaters aren't profitable. VHS isn't. DVD isn't.

This history of obscuring the numbers so that those at the top can sneak away with an ever-growing slice of the pie is epitomized by streamers that refuse to give anyone ANY kind of clarity when it comes to their numbers. There's only one reason to hide that kind of data, and people know it.

I think this is the end of my rant for now. I just feel like one of the things reporters have not done well is communicating clearly what's going on, and why they should care about white collar workers striking. The answer for me is, they're striking against employers who are stealing them blind.

A 2003 episode of The Dead Zone TV series contains some shocking predictive programming of phrases and scenarios that we’re seeing play out globally today. YouTuber, Ari Novick cut together the highlights of the episode into this 3-minute clip. Unlike most Hollywood predictive programming, this one has positive connotations.

The Dead Zone TV series ran between 2002-2007, starring Anthony Michael Hall, who played Johnny, a small town public school teacher who gains extraordinary psychic powers after he wakes up from a car accident that had left him comatose for 6 years.

In the 14th episode of the second season, entitled “Plague”, Johnny must help the local health inspector identify and find the source of a mysterious virus before it kills off the entire town.

1. The school is put on “lockdown”.

2. Everyone must wear masks, due to “political pressure”.

3. The town’s local health inspector in charge searches frantically for the animal vector, saying it would take the CDC months to identify it.

4. China is mentioned as a possible source of the deadly virus.

5. Johnny has a fitful dream, in which he clairvoyantly identifies the deadly pathogen and sees that chloroquin “suppresses the enzymes” of the virus.

6. The school nurse derides Johnny, saying that there’s no cure for the virus he identified and that chloroquin would ever work, as it’s an “anti-malarial drug”.

7. The infected patients all take chloroquine – all make swift and full recoveries.

8. The health inspector says, “The CDC would have figured it out eventually – but not in time.” Johnny saved everybody’s life.

CHLOROQUINE IS BEING ACTIVELY SUPPRESSED BY THE MSM

Chloroquine and its milder cognate, hydroxychloroquine have been approved medications since the 1950s. Hydroxychloroquine is on the World Health Organization’s List of Essential Medicines, the safest and most effective medicines needed in a health system. In 2017, it there were five million prescriptions written for it in the US, mainly to treat rheumatoid arthritis, lupus and porphyria.

A new Chinese study shows treatment with chloroquine reduces viral loads significantly faster than non-chloroquin therapies, reduces fever more quickly and earlier intervention produces greater results. A half dose was also found to be effective and no adverse events were reported.

On Monday, Italian pharmacology scholar, Annalisa Chiusolo told The Jerusalem Post that, “COVID-19 damages the hemoglobin, impairing the ability of red blood cells to transport oxygen throughout the body, compromising the lungs and resulting in Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS).”

Chiusolo says that SARS-CoV-2…needs porphyrins for its survival – and probably for its replication – so it attacks hemoglobin, the protein that carries oxygen in the blood, which translates to less oxygen available for the body.”

Because men have higher hemoglobin levels than women and children, they have more of this “fuel” available for the virus and are therefore more susceptible to COVID-19.

The pneumonia caused by the coronavirus is also more prevalent in elderly patients and those with diabetes, which Chiusolo says is linked to increased levels of glycated hemoglobin, which become elevated with age and with diabetes.

Anthony Fauci’s National Institutes of Health has known for at least 15 years that chloroquine is an effective inhibitor of coronaviruses, having studied it during the SARS outbreak.

On August 22, 2005, the NIH published an article under the heading “Chloroquine Is a Potent Inhibitor of SARS Coronavirus Infection and Spread,” in which researchers reported that, “concentrations of 10 μM completely abolished SARS-CoV infection.”

In addition, they reported that, “chloroquine has strong antiviral effects on SARS-CoV infection of primate cells…These inhibitory effects are observed when the cells are treated with the drug either before or after exposure to the virus, suggesting both prophylactic and therapeutic advantage.”

In other words, chloroquine helps prevent COVID-19!

How could Anthony Fauci downplay chloroquine? Why would he rather collapse the global economy?

Back in February, Dr. Didier Raoult, the most-cited microbiologist in Europe had such spectacular success using HCQ to treat victims of SARS-CoV-2 that he said, “it’s game over” for coronavirus.

But try telling that to Yahoo News, who belittle him, the same way the entire Mainstream Media has been trashing chloroquin, with some pushing the narrative that Trump is advocating it for some corrupt purpose.

The evil of these Globalists knows no bounds.

The Association of American Physicians and Surgeons officials Dr Michael Robb and Dr Jane Orient wrote in a letter to Arizona Gov Doug Ducey, a Republican, to rescind his executive orders forbidding prescriptions for the prevention of COVID-19, saying, “We believe that there is clear and convincing evidence of benefit both pre-exposure and post-exposure.”

Citing observational data through April 20 from multiple countries, “about 2,333 patients treated with hydroxychloroquine, some in combination with zinc or azithromycin. Of those, 91.6% improved clinically.”

Also, there was a 1,900% difference in mortality of elderly (.5% vs 10%).

“Based on this evidence, we request that you rescind your executive orders impeding the use of CQ and HCQ and further order that administrative agencies not impose any requirements on the prescription of CQ, HCQ, azithromycin, or other drugs intended to treat or prevent coronavirus illness that do not apply equally to all approved medications that may be used off-label for any purpose,” they wrote.

I do think the time has come, when we, as citizens need to stand up to these corrupt authorities who want to bankrupt us with this lockdown and to prevent the use of a proven cure, while they enforce compusory injections upon us with their bioweapon.

(Los Angeles Times) -- After months of being shuttered, Texas movie theater chain Alamo Drafthouse published a blog post from founder Tim League last month detailing the company’s new coronavirus safety protocols, including mandatory masks and employee temperature checks. The maverick exhibitor’s message to nervous moviegoers was that its theaters would be “safer than a supermarket.”

Whether customers believe that’s true will have a major effect on the movie industry’s return from the COVID-19 pandemic.

About 1,300 domestic movie houses are currently open, including 293 drive-ins, according to data firm Comscore. But the vast majority of the country’s nearly 5,550 indoor theaters remain shuttered, and the recent surge in COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations in multiple states has postponed what was already expected to be a slow recovery. While drive-ins are doing brisk business, indoor theaters are struggling to draw audiences because of a lack of new Hollywood films.

“Twenty days ago, I would’ve said we’re on track,” said David A. Gross, head of movie consultancy Franchise Entertainment Research. “But this latest spike is just awful.”

Studios, meanwhile, are dealing with their own dilemma of when they can start safely releasing blockbusters again.
