Happy 2018 everyone! I always like to spend day one of a new year reviewing my last 12 months and setting some goals for the next. When it comes to reading, my annual Goodreads goal is always 50 books. Last year I also participated in the 2017 Book Riot Read Harder Challenge ( you can find the 2018 challenge here!) And I wanted to check off some of the books from the PopChart 100 Essential Novels scratch-off poster I was gifted last year. Happy to say I met all my goals!
My big goal for 2018 is to launch a new themed book blog (expected launch in June!) that I will be sharing more about in the coming months as details come together.

“oh, no, no, I completely understand that.” he lets out a deep sigh, reaching up to run a hand through his hair, and a few patches of scarred-looking tissue peek into the frame from his bared upper arm. “why you’re freaked out, i mean. i don’t blame you in the slightest. that stuff... it’s a whole different breed. scares the hell out of me, too, honestly.” he sits up a bit, wincing as he accidentally tugs at his IV. under the harsh hospital lights, it’s painfully clear that he was telling the truth about his condition. he’s ghastly pale, with deep shadows under his eyes, and a haunting pink tinge to his tired gaze. he anticipates derf’s response, and waves off any concern. “it’s really not as bad as it looks, i promise. mostly blood loss.” he absently scratches at another patch of tainted grayish skin on the side of his neck. “it’s... really, if it’s any comfort at all, so long as we keep our heads, it’s not too much difference from before. we’ve got no...” he makes a vague hand gesture upwards as he speaks, indicating the space over his head as he searches for a word. “nobody up top, yknow? nothing pulling the strings, not like the other stuff. no real direction. we keep ourselves, just... linked together.” he sighs again. as derf speaks, darvo is nodding along, but his heart is sinking deeper and deeper into the pit of his stomach the more he hears.
“I know, it’s... it’s a lot. i’m sorry. jordas... well. he’s had it rough. he was in the other hivemind for a long time. i guess it rubs off on you. and he... well, it’s no excuse for scaring you like that. even if he didn’t have any intention, it’s not right. and i’m really sorry.” he cocked his head to the side, as though listening for something, and the glow in his eyes flared slightly before flickering back out. “if it’s to any credit, he feels pretty badly about it, too. wanted to make sure i tell you that.”
“I... I understand, hon. I really do. I think...” he pauses to swallow down a lump that was forming in the back of his throat. “I think it’s for the best, yeah. take however long you need. if you ever wanna talk—“ he tries to offer a reassuring smile, but the result just looks exhausted. deep down, he can’t shake the awful feeling that he’s somehow failed him. that he could’ve prevented this, if he’d only done something differently. “i’m here. i always will be, yeah? nothing’s changing that. not if i have any say in the matter.”
i promise we aren’t all like this jordas is just a special level of batshit and thinks scaring people on purpose is funny eVDN WHEN THEYRE PEOPLE I CARE ABOUT AND DONT WANT TO FREAK OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!
