not rlly a point im just writing to put my thoughts down, i think ive said heart was like the "character" aspect before, the leijons ship their friends in a way reminicent to how fandom ships characters. dps is the self actualized version of their components and is the final stage of their character arcs. dirk is made up of multiple characters and becomes different characters in the comic yk.

bc character transitions can b easily read as a trans metaphor, u can point to dps, who is canonically queer, and dirk(s) to be like oh yep trans gender. dirk's relationship to his body as well as bgd and hal's is rly interesting. hal has zero control over the safety of his body and bgd's existence relys entirely on jake.

dirk's casual suicidal tendencies are given a reason every time, and hal doesnt seem bothered to exploit them possibly exposing a shared value they have. "it is ok to die AS LONG as its for the greater good". its tested however when dirk kills himself in game over, as much as he tries to get shit done, he is just a 16 yr old. AND like the other space players, he's been awake on his moon for a while. the dual waking thing prolly wasn't any good for him and exasperated any dissociative symptoms he would have developed by living alone his entire life. so basically, i dont think he's very connected to his body, seeing his brain more of himself rather than the body he inhabits. the lack of physical autonomy in bgd and hal is a round are just different versions of that. body mind soul thing yk.

through a trans lens, i see him as a trans guy who's far removed from his body mentally. this could be from dysphoria, or an intense neutrality from it from disassociation. from a mental health lens, its giving dissociation and osdd. bro's filled to the brim with himself, but is also exhausted from his hyper vigilance in keeping himself in check.

i think the idea of hrt would kinda freak him out in the same way puberty would have freaked him out if he went through a regular one (no way his ass was getting his nutrience). any sudden changes to his body that he wouldnt have done meticulously would have been a big hell no despite his distancing. though it isn't "him", it's his, like how one would see a tool. he's hella anal about that sort of thing.

which makes me think about bgd. interesting fella. i think the way he copes is how he views himself as a tool, like how hal does when he says he's just glasses. he enacts jake's will by fighting aranea "for his honor". bgd is also smitten with jake, being a big loop of dirk and jake's feelings for one another, which also softens the whole thing. its rlly no shocking idea that dirk puts people on crazy high pedestals, so like as long as jake's happy, he's happy. its more complicated than that, but this is a long ass post lol.

Stoned and it’s 2am so excuse whatever this mess is about to be but do you think Dirk Strider is constantly torn between being perceived as weak in .e. ‘Oh god I’m struggling, I’m not supposed to be struggling. I can’t let anyone see me suffering,” and wanting to be seen at all i.e, ‘I’m struggling so badly, can no one see it? Can anyone hear me? Do you see and not care?’ Love the guy but he definitely hurts his own feelings a lot and he knows this but instead of breaking the echo chamber that is his internal dialogue (Feel free to read Dirk as a did/osdd system. It’s encouraged, actually) he falls into the same pit falls over and over again.

He wants somebody to notice him and to help him but he can’t afford to let the facade slip anymore than it already has or else he risks falling apart entirely. At least this way he’s functional/doesn’t have to rely on (Dirks POV read: burden) anyone else.

I do think I want Dirk to have a happy ending irt his mental health but with how homestuck proper ended I just don’t see the damage of being isolated for most of your life healing in that short of a time. Also with the mental place I’m in personally it’s difficult for me envision what would constitute a happy ending for Dirk even. He’s such an understandably codependent fuck who has no idea how unhealthy he is (or subconsciously chooses to ignore it? maybe even a knowledge purposely kept from him by his system?) that I don’t know it would be good to put him in a relationship anytime Soon. Its actually tragic how much he fears being perceived as a burden the avoidant behaviors meant to establish his self sufficient persona are what worries his friends the most. I have a whole other thing I want to write irt to Dirk and his relationships/idolization of his friends too, soon.

Okay, after some further reflection, I would say Dirk is the type of person who would likely have OSDD while Dave is the one to develop DID. SO here's my thoughts on Dave Strider having Dissociative Identity Disorder. I'm a lil hung over, but enjoy my ramblings.

Dave would struggle to connect with other alters I think. As the present host through teen years and young adulthood (before gaining a diagnosis or revelation of his issues), Dave would probably just view his alters' names as a list of nicknames. Hell, that's what I went through until I was 21 and a half or something. He brushes off the severity of how his childhood effected him. He thinks his list of nicknames is just some odd way he switches things up once in a while. But then he starts to realize... there's memory gaps? And things are kind of blurry sometimes. He can connect the dots, but he has no idea he's asking to go by a different name more often but only for extended periods. Once he finally lays everything out for Rose, she's the one that finally catches on, letting him know he probably has Dissociative Identity Disorder.

Dave has other alters than his main 5, but they're fragments and struggle to be identified for a long time.

Dave- He/It. General host, the typical Dave most know. Very ironic and makes a joke out of a lot of things. Dave jokes it's a nonbinary-cisgender person- "for the irony" he says Davie- He/Him. Repressed child core alter, somewhere between 6-8 years old mentally. He's dormant for a long time until Dave starts working through his childhood trauma and when Davie first fronts, it's a mess for everyone involved because he has no idea where he is. Rose has to walk June or Karkat through calming him over the phone. Davie knows who Dirk and Roxy are, but only ever calls Roxy mom or dad. She makes him feel safe. Sprite- They/Them. They have this peculiar love for crows, makes a few bird puns here and there. They seem to be more depressed than the other alters. Or at least more regularly depressed. They get along rather well with Dirk's AR system and have been caught a few times purposely having conversations with Lil Hal for personal comfort. They like Jade a lot, takes interest in her furry stuff. However, his semi-negative attribute is that he's similar to a self-destructive persecutor alter because he's rather defensive sometimes and will stop things or break things off before they can get too bad. He's purposefully started fights with June and Karkat before to try pushing them away. Lizzy- She/Her. She picks her name from Dave's own middle name (Elizabeth). I say she becomes the main host later in life, but she's also terrified of being rejected by the world. The idea of openly transitioning is scary and when the system is reaching success in the film industry in their late 20s/early 30s, she thinks it's too late and struggles with that. Out of all the alters, she masks herself fronting the most once the system is aware of itself. She shares some of Davie's memories and the offensive way in which she was raised by Bro makes her feel bad about herself sometimes. Alpha- He/Him. Mentally older than Dave the host. Works somewhat as a caretaker and protector in the system. He's beyond monotone and doesn't react much to things. However, if someone does the system wrong, Alpha is the one who loses his cool and calls the person out. He focuses on taking care of and regulating Davie, though also feels nurturing emotions for Lizzy.

dirk for sure. the rest, im kind of like, split on? haha split. get it. anyways its one of those things where DID is so personalized to the person you can pretty much hc any troll or kid who has childhood trauma with it, not that you need this explained but its a covert disorder so it's not like it'd be noticable in every case. Dirk just has a very "text book" case of DID if ive ever seen one. like, to the point where i think if people actually knew what the disorder was like theyd all start hcing it because he straight up has DID. hes just a stupid lucky duck who gets to make his splinters have actual bodies outside of his own. caliborn and caliope obviously. i also hc gamzee to have it, that ones pretty clear cut to me too, considering his personality changes childhood trauma drug abuse and the way hes usually characterized by the two theatre masks.

as for proper headcanons that aren't supported by canon? i don't really know. i can see aradia having a form of OSDD because of her time powers and i think thats applicable to every time player. i also headcanon jake with it but thats way too much for me to get into because his actually IS supported by canon in a round about way and i could make a huge post on it but i dont feel like doing that right now, but maybe soon

hm. so i guess this would either happen when hal's by herself for a decent period of time so things kind of default to how things were in the apartment. hal on his shoulder giving snarky comments but instead its a dissociative thing. either that and like situations of sudden concerns about bodily well being. a sudden irrational thought of "dont fucking drop me" repeated until they get to safety (id imagine they'd feel a bit silly afterwards catching herself thinking like this, but they dont know that they are THE did/osdd character)

dirk on the other hand has a passive hal voice in the back of his head in a similar way in the comic. i mean like i dont have 2 explain the parallel its right there. it would be kinda jarring seeing each other in flesh space after prolonged moments of keeping to themselves, but they would brush the weird feeling off like how they usually do.

id imagine hal gets stuck using the third person sometimes when thinking like assuming dirk's the one controlling her body and is like wait a second.
