UPDATE:
Tumblr media
I hesitated to post this before finding another source. I am searching for video and other news sources that were on the red carpet to confirm Calo made the statement below. I will update this post with anything I find.

While Dune: Part Two features moments of much-needed levity, particularly between Paul and Chani as their romance blooms in the first half, it is much darker than your typical Hollywood blockbuster. From previous films like Prisoners, Arrival, and of course, Blade Runner 2049, director Denis Villeneuve has always tackled heavy and even sensitive material with nuance. That still rings true in this case, however, Villeneuve makes it overtly clear that Paul’s arc is a cautionary tale that is not to be misinterpreted. It’s a story that has been and continues to be dangerously reflected in the real world. Coming off his chilling performance in Bones and All and whimsical venture in Wonka, Timothée Chalamet gives the most commanding performance of his career here. His transition from Paul Atredies into Paul Muad’dib Usul, the all-seeing messiah of the Fremen, brings out a powerful gravitas never seen in Chalamet before.

this is interesting too because I understand why directors care about followers or why this has an influence in films (followers equals views/large audience/sales) but also the kid from “anora” is still under a million followers. (it is increasing quickly tho) indie films/less known actors are still able to find success.
also…maya hawke is a nepo baby. her mom is uma thurman! saying she needs followers to be in a film is weird imo. if someone like her is denied a role because of followers…what chance do less known actors have? everyone was once unknown once upon a time…

I know that's right.... 😏 👏🏾
Go Halle!!! 😁
With that said, I think it's shady as hayell that some ppl wanted this film to flop so bad at the box office, that they WAITED until it was available for streaming so that they could then watch the movie in private and satisfy their curiosity about it, all while reveling in the satisfaction that they didn't contribute not a single cent to the box office revenue for this movie since it's on streaming. 😒

Don't think I didn't pick up on that.... 😒

The decline of film and television
While receiving her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Christina Ricci said this: “I hope that we are able to get back to things being run by people who love film and TV — instead of by people who run corporations really well.”
I couldn't agree with her more when it comes to film. The decline in quality movies is stark. Television isn't so straight-forward because there's a mix of incredibly high-quality shows along with a bunch of garbage.
I'd love to know how you all feel about this. And perhaps we can get a list going to some recent quality movies and shows.
