What is 3D animation?

3D animation is the type of animation that uses computers to render the movement of 3D objects.

5 Examples of 3D animation:

Tron (1982):

I chose this 3D animation from Tron as it combines real life footage with a 3D rendered environment. What makes this animation unique is how well the footage of the actors has been composited in. Another thing is the footage of the actors was filmed in black and white.

Toy Story (1995):

I chose this animation from Toy Story as it was the first fully 3D animated film. What makes it unique is the reflections on certain materials considering the film being made in 1995. Another unique factor is the quality of the facial animations.

The Young Sherlock Holmes (1985):

I chose this animation as it was the first scene to feature the first fully CG character in a real life environment. What makes this scene unique is the fact that it took 9 months to create this short scene. Another unique factor of the animation is the light calculations used to make the character look like they are made from stained glass.

Terminator 2 (1991):

I chose this animation due to its liquid physics. What is quite unique about this animation is that the creators of this sequence had to code the liquid physics from scratch. Another thing that makes this animation unique is how most 3D apps can't recreate this scene the same way.

Bat to the bone 🦇💀 Tried to match my buddy Oogie in the back there. I think it’s so cute that he talks and welcomes guests into the park! He’s definitely a character we wanna meet one day — gotta try to score those Oogie Boogie Bash tickets next year! 🎃 Also, this was taken right before I got DRENCHED on splash mountain. No joke, one of the logs were filled up with ~8 inches of water when it returned to the loading/unloading area! Who decided to crank the water works up so high!? Haha
