No, don't cry. I hate it when you cry." With Dylan cozens please!! Thanks so much
He’d found you, of course he found you.
You hadn’t tried to hide very well, currently sitting in your old ice rink, your dress all brown on the bottom from the dirt and your makeup running down your face.
You heard the doors open, the creaking had only gotten worse since you were kids.
“y/n?!” Dylan rushed, eyes frantically looking around the rink before landing on you in the top corner of the stands.
“Dylan go away!”
“No!” He huffed as he climbed the steps and planted himself next to you.
You turn to him and his hand subconsciously rests on your cheek “No, don’t cry! I hate it when you cry”
“Dyl I just left my own wedding!” You sobbed.
He felt bad, watching you like this.
“We can go back, he never has to know” Dylan mumbled and you shook your head
“I want to be with you Dyl! I want to I swear I just feel so guilty”
You’d walked out while getting ready, Dylan had shown up to your wedding after no receiving an invite courtesy of your future husband banning him, knowing fine well how you felt.
“I love you y/n”
Your head tiredly dropped onto his shoulder and you sniffled “Why does love have to be so hard”
He kissed your hairline and said “You make loving you so easy”
The two of you sat there in the rink you’d met as 5 year olds, in the darkness holding one another scared and confused but all that mattered was that you were together.

do you like me?
Tumblr media
April 19, 2021
Carina has tried for the six years to do everything to not think about or care for Joseph Woll, but he seems to have a way to worm his way through her walls and she hated it because no one has ever made her feel so much.
After she invited him to her game in December of 2019 she didn’t get to see him before the rest of the season was suspended and she headed home to her family but she did stay in contact as Joseph asked to be able to text her and she reluctantly agreed still not sure why.
Carina did spend most of her time in quarantine working out and being on the ice. It was a lot for Carina being home for so long again and not being able to leave. She did enjoy being near her family longer than a few weeks but it was difficult living with people again for that long as she is use to living alone most of the time.
Carina reluctantly did keep in contact with Joseph, texting him more than she has ever texted anyone and gave him the rare facetime’s, they became a lot closer and Joseph could tell Carina was softening towards him bit by bit.
Carina was in her new house she bought a few months ago, and was pacing in her bedroom trying to decide if this was the correct idea and she couldn’t take it back.
Carina wasn’t stupid, she may be grumpy but she understood that Joseph had regrettable wormed his way into her heart and she couldn’t stop no matter how much she tried to too.
Carina let out a deep breath glaring at the ground as she continued to pace. Groaning once more she all but stomped out of her house and into her car starting to drive out of her driveway.
Carina had left right as the sun was setting and the traffic had already cleared up and she got to her destination within a hour and a half, she parked in the parking garage and headed into the elevator up the the floor she knows she needs to go.
She walked through the hallway and knocked on the apartment she was looking for, the door opened and Jospeh was there.
“Ina? What are you doing here?” Joseph let out a disbelieving laugh and a smile came to his face.
“Can i come in?” Carina asked as politely as she got and it made Joseph raise an eyebrow but he nodded moving over letting her come in and he shut the door behind them.
Joseph watched as Carina started pacing in his living room and he frowned in worry as he has never seen Carina this emotional, “Ina is everything okay?” Joseph asked in a soft voice walking closer to her.
Carina spun around abruptly facing him and blunty asked him, “Do you like me?” Carina fiddled with her fingers behind her back and away from Joseph seeing.
Joseph froze and his eyes widen dramatically, “What- Why are you asking?” Joseph spluttered out nervously.
“Do you?” Carina asked slightly softer but still very blunt as she took a step closer to him.
Joseph took a deep breath but nodded seeing Carina looking at him, “I do.” Jospeh’s felt a sense of relief finally telling her his feelings after six years.
Carina slowly nodded not looking away from him and crossed her arms around herself, “Well are you going to ask me to be your girlfriend?” Carina sassed him with a slight smirk.
“Girlfriend?” Joseph spluttered out again looking at her nervously but hopeful, Carina nodded once more, “You like me Ina?” Joseph stepped closer to her and even with her doc martens on he was still a few inches taller than.
“So what if i did.” Carina sassed back hoping to cover her feelings.
“Then i would love to ask you to be my girlfriend.” Jospeh softly replied but giving her a stern look rasing his eyebrow as he wasn’t asking her until she at least told him she felt something.
Carina looked away letting out a hmph, Jospeh could see a slight pout on her lip before she started mumbling to herself.
“Ina, i can’t hear you.” Jospeh softly interrupted her mumbling and grumbles, he watched as she took a deep breath before looking back at him.
“I feel something for you too.” Carina glared at Jospeh keeping her arms crossed.
“That’s all you had to say Ina.” Joseph softly smiled at her but also felt his heart jump hearing the words he’s waited for.
“So would you like to be my girlfriend Ina?” Joseph looked at her fondly gently nudging her arm.
“Alright.” Carina furrowed her eyebrows nodding, “Guess that’s fine.” Carina tried to act nonchalantly but Joseph could see the slight smile on her face.
“May i kiss my girlfriend?” Joseph questioned titling his head.
“If you want.” Carina whispered out as he leaned closer to her and his hand brushed against her back and rested there, she swallowed at his touch and feeling his breath hit her lips.
“I would love that.” Joseph whispered back before pressing his lips gently to hers and pulling her closer to him, he felt her hands tentatively run across his shoulders up to his neck and rest there as they kissed each other.
Carina pulled away catching her breath and let herself smile slightly as she looked up at him.
“Wait don’t you have a game tomorrow?” Joseph looked at her in concern as he suddenly remembered.
“I’m sick.” Carina plainly anwsered a small smirk forming on her face as she faked a cough.
“You-“ Jospeh shook his head speechless but also not suprised because it’s Carina, he smiled and pulled her back into a kiss.
Carina stomach rumbled as they kissed and Jospeh pulled back letting out a fond chuckle, “Want dinner?”
“It’s late.” Carina protested kinda feeling bad.
“And you’re hungry.” Jospeh sternly replied gently and slowly grabbing her hand so if she wanted to pull away she could but he smiled when she squeezed his hand back, “Come on i made dinner a few hours ago and i have a lot of leftovers.” Joseph walked with her to his kitchen and sadly dropped her hand as he grabbed the food from his refrigerator and grabbed a pan to heat up.
Carina let out a small noise when she saw he made salmon bowls her favorite, “Salmon?”
“You like Salmon still?” Joseph asked hoping she still does, Carina nodded quickly. Joseph smiled and started heating up the food pretty quickly and putting it into a bowl and putting it onto the counter, “You want something to drink?”
“Water. please.” Carina replied. Joseph smiled and grabbed her a glass of water before picking the bowl up and gesturing for her to follow him he brought them to his couch and set her food onto the coffee table.
“Thought you would be more comfortable.” Joseph shrugged when he saw her questioning look, Carina nodded sitting down and slipped off her boots and put her keys and phone onto the coffee table before picking the bowl up as Joseph sat down next to her.
Carina hummed as she took her first bite and happily ate another big spoonful, “Good?”Joseph asked curiously as he watched her fondly, Carina replied with a rapid nod.
Joseph clicked on a random show as Carina ate her dinner.
Carina put her bowl on the coffee table, “Thank you.” She looked over at Joseph.
“Of course.” Jospeh softly smiled back before looking at the time seeing it was already ten o’clock at night, “Your staying tonight.” Joseph stated and got up off the couch.
“Not gonna ask first?” Carina teased him as she got up following after him.
“No, i’m not letting you drive home this late.” Jospeh called back as he walked to his bedroom, he opened his drawer grabbing a pair of sweat shorts and a t-shirt and turned around and handed them to her, “The bathroom is right there.” He pointed to the bathroom door.
Carina nodded and headed into the bathroom shutting the door and slipping off her clothes and putting on his, she walked back out leaving her clothes in the bathroom.
Joseph looked over and smiled softly at the sight of her in his clothes, “Uh you can have my bed and i’ll take the couch.” Joseph offered not wanting to overwhelm her.
Carina shook her head soflty walking over grabbing his hand pulling him to his bed, “We can share.”
Joseph smiled and squeezed her hand back, he pulled the covers back and got into bed and Carina laid down next to him.
Carina laid her head on the pillow looking at Joseph, Carina tentatively brought her hand up to his face and gently brushed her fingers across his cheek and into his hair.
Joseph smiled softly closing his eyes enjoying her soft touch as he slowly fell asleep.

we need to create the world we want to live in. who can be in a gay narrative with jeff skinner now. let's start a movement
FUNDAMENTALLY we need to start something... we need to have a conversation. every pundit on earth was out there last season insisting the sabres are ~FuN~ and frankly... what do we have to show for it? moving up 15 points in the standings but still not making the playoffs? minimal addition to the yaoi web -> no fun value really.
in addition from my scouting about a third of the sabres are fairly old and a third are babies... make of that what u will. jeff's whimsy might be a lot for another calmer older figure to really get into... (i am imagining him and ej trying to vibe together and it is not happening) but you could get a little bit like... not a father figure per se but like a friend's gay older brother who u were always kind of into. presenting options and dynamics:
jeff skinner/tage thompson: your classic centre + his chosen winger dynamic. there's always chemistry there
jeff skinner/alex tuch: see above. gonna be honest as """"fun"""" as the sabres are it might be me or it might be them but im not really like. aware of a lot of their personalities? like what are their deals. largely. this is a problem solved by fervent yaoiposting
jeff skinner/dylan cozens: dylcoz is one of the few sabres whose Vibe i could at least pretend to place and that Vibe is "brat." not that Markham Jeff is what you would consider a "dom" by any means but after being in the league for as long as he has he's earned kind of a (to me) old gay sage status... like he could list all of madonna's albums in order and certainly could tell a fresh young little gayboy what to do. dylan cozens is the teenager who would show up half an hour late to class belligerently high and make straight B+ses and jeff skinner is the harried yet firm history teacher who doesn't have enough time or budget to stop him especially not when he's clearly familiar with the material (despite his lack of respect for authority) and somehow they are having perfectly normal adult consensual moderate d/s sex about this.
jeff skinner/rasmus dahlin: ras has never met an Emotion he was at peace with . if you tell this to jeff he'll think you meant carly rae jepsen. see skinner/cozens but rasmus cries a lot more

Hiii, hope your doing well! Wanted to request a blurb or imagine where your Tage Thompson’s younger sister and you start dating Dylan Cozens! Your writing is one of my favourites 🤍🤍
Tage’s Sister - D. Cozens
Tumblr media
I’m obsessed with this concept.
And imagine she’s interning there too for management classes 👀
———————————————————————————-
“You know he’s going to kill us if he finds out, right?” You murmured against Dylan’s chest.
You had stayed the night with the dark headed boy; not telling your brother you had been there.
“I know.” He said as he grabbed his phone from the nightstand, his hands in the air as he scrolled through his notifications before setting his phone close to your face on his chest, “I gotta start getting ready for practice soon.”
“Do you have to?” You whined, “You’re comforting and I’m warm.”
“My ass would be grass if I didn’t.” He chuckled, “but as soon as you’re done with work and I’m home, you can come back, deal?”
“Fine.” You rolled your eyes.
It wasn’t long before you two were crawling out of bed, you grabbing your clothes from his spare drawer.
You had some professional clothes sores away at Dylan’s for moments like this.
It wasn’t unusual for you and Dylan to arrive together so no one would question anything the moment you two walked into the building.
You two made your way to his car, him opening the door for you.
“You think anything will be said?” Dylan asked as he started the car before resting his hand on your thigh, “I just don’t want anything to be said.”
“I’m sure people either speculate we’re seeing each other or we’re just really close.” You shrugged as you watched him roll his eyes at you, “What?”
“I highly doubt they think we’re just good friends.” He laughed, “I just don’t want you to get in trouble. My job is secure; yours is an internship. I just don’t want you to lose it.”
“I know- but all is fine Dyl.” You said as you gave his hand a tight squeeze, “I promise.”
*****
“I’ll see you in a few.” You whispered to Dylan, him murmuring about how he’d meet you in the car.
Tage was walking up to you two when he said that, his eyes darting between the two of you before he gave you a slight smirk.
“Hey.”
“Hi.” You gave him a confused look as he watched behind you until Dylan was out of his line of sight.
“You going back to Dylan’s or are you coming home? Tage asked as you gave him an exasperated look, “A little birdy mentioned it.” Tage chuckled, “Besides, I figured when you didn’t come home, something was up.” He continued, “I’m not mad; so don’t think that. But I need you telling me when you’re not coming home so I’m not worrying over you,” he slightly fussed, “You might be grown, but I’m always going to be your big brother and I worry about you.”
“I honestly thought you’d be more protective.” You shrugged, “and I know. It slipped my mind to tell you.” You said as you wrapped your arms around his waist.
“You’re a smart girl. I know you’ll think things through,” he said as he brought you into his chest, “And I’m here if you need me, but until then, it’s not my business.”

hey for the tiktok prompts, can you do dylan cozens for the stargazing one
Referenced Post
Prompt-- 3. Stargazing on top of a car (w Dylan Cozens)
A/N: Here's another blurb from the 14 oddly romantic things blurb set. I personally love to stargaze so much so I had a lot of fun writing this one!
Thanks for requesting this, hope you like it :)
Word Count: 1037
Warning(s): none super fluffy!

“I’m bored.”
I flip my body around to lay stomach down on top of my boyfriend. Resting my arms on his chest I pout at him and whine out, “What can we do?”
“What’d you mean ‘what can we do?’ Aren’t we doing something right now?” He voiced back, while bringing his hand to rub small circles along my shoulder blade.
I huff. “We have literally been laying on the couch for 3 hours watching reruns of a show that we have both seen multiple times.”
“Yeah, what’s wrong with that?” Dylan smirks down at me.
“It’s boring.” I whine out once again, this time dragging out the ‘g’ to add more emphasis.
Dylan smiles a little at my dramatics. He thinks for a moment before offering out, “Wanna go for a drive?”
I immediately leap off the couch and cheer out, “Yes.”
Going for a late night drive has sort of become one of Dylan and I’s favorite activities to do together. It’s such a simple thing to do, but we both love it and we love just spending that time together enjoying the simple things in life. Most of the time we just listen to our playlist we made for our late night drives with the windows down and the wind blowing through our hair. Other times we get food and park at a nice viewpoint and eat and talk for hours. A few times it may have led to us just making out and moving to the backseat…
Excitedly, I go throw on my sneakers and one of Dylan’s Sabres hoodies. I take a quick peak in the pantry and grab the party-size bag of gummy bears I bought just for this occasion. I walk back to the front entry hall to find Dylan already waiting there with his keys in hand. He laughs when he sees the gigantic bag of gummy bears I have in my hand and reaches out for my other hand before leading us out the door of his apartment and to the parking garage where his car resides.
Usually we never really have a destination in mind and kind of just drive around aimlessly until we find something interesting. But tonight it looks like Dylan has other plans as I watch him type something out into his GPS.
“Where are we going?” I ask curiously.
Doing that hot thing that guys do while backing out, a tiny smirk forms on Dylan’s lips as he replies, “It’s a surprise.”
Feeling a little intrigued, I let him have his fun and don’t pry for more answers. I plug my phone into the aux cord and go straight to our playlist titled ‘late night drives’ while Dylan rolls down all the windows. Once we make it onto the main roads, Dylan moves to only one hand on the steering wheel, while the other migrates to it’s usual spot on my thigh.
We simply bask in each other’s company while softly humming along to the music on the radio (and eating gummy bears).
We are driving for about twenty minutes before Dylan is slowing down and pulling into an empty parking lot near what looks like a lake. Dylan puts the car into park and turns the car's engine off, making me confused. He notices my expression and pats me lightly on the thigh before getting out of the car and making his way over to my side and opening the door for me.
“C’mon.” He takes my hand, helping me out of the car, and walks to the front hood. He grins at my face and gives me a quick little peck and mutters against my lips, “Look up.”
I do as I am told and am immediately greeted with the sight of thousands of shining stars staring back at me. It was overwhelming seeing how many stars were apparent in the night sky, but at the same time I still tried to count every single one of them with a child awed stare. There is something about stars that makes you just want to gaze at every single one of them in awe and wonder. Dylan seemed to notice the awestruck look on my face and smiles proudly to himself, while never taking his eyes off of me.
I feel his heated gaze on me and look over at him with that same gigantic smile still on my face. “Why are you looking at me like that?”
“You’re just… amazing.” He grinned.
I’m hoping the darkness of the night hides the immediate blush that coats my cheeks at his words. I then get an idea, so I tug out of Dylan’s hand and boost myself up onto the hood of the car and start climbing my way to the top.
“Wah-- Baby you’re gonna dent the hood of my car.” Dylan whines.
“No I’m not. It’s fine.” I roll my eyes at my pouty boyfriend. I sit down on the very top of the car and look down at Dylan and motion for him to join him. “C’mon. Come up here. And bring the gummy bears!” I add.
He seems a little hesitant to follow my movements, but when he looks up again and notices me giving him the puppy dog eyes, he straight away hops onto the hood, caving in. I make grabby hands at him when he finally makes his way to the top. He chuckles at me and goes to wrap his arms around me as we both move to lay down.
Once again we just bask in the feeling of being in each other’s arms and company while we stare up into the starry night sky. It’s so easy to get caught up in all the mundane problems in life and forget about the simplistic things that can make you happy. There is also something that makes stargazing seem so deeply romantic. Just being able to disconnect from the outside world and realize how little we actually are compared to the thousands of stars and galaxies that surround us. And yet, we managed to find one another, and fall in love.
I snuggle even more into Dylan feeling so content and happy where I am right now and whisper out the words,
“I love you.”

Hiii could you do 3 or 22 from your song prompt list w Dylan cozens pls:)
US AGAINST THE WORLD
22. “but you’ll never be alone / i'll be with you from dusk till dawn” (from this prompt list)
you and dylan might have been young, but one thing you knew for sure was your relationship was filled with love. it was the little things that made you fall even more in love with him.
he knew your coffee order when you went out by heart, and would order for you whenever you went out. it was the same when you went out for dinner or on dates. he knew you well enough to know what you wanted.
you knew him just as well. you knew how he liked his coffee in the morning, a splash of milk, and a lot of sugar. you knew when he got extra stressed he would take walks to clear his head.
one thing dylan always made sure he did was give you a kiss before he left in the mornings. it was just routine for him. whether you were asleep or awake, he always gave you a gentle kiss.
if you were awake, it was a sweet kiss on the lips, but if you were still asleep, it was a gentle kiss on the forehead.
you and dylan were both dead asleep when you were both awoken by his loud alarm. he had a tendency to sleep through his alarm and was late more times than he was actually on time.
you whined, pushing your head further into dylan’s chest, "turn it off.” you whined.
“i know, i know.” he reached over to turn off the alarm. he turned back to you, and let out a sigh, pressing a kiss to your head, “you know i gotta go.” you shook your head, causing him to laugh, “i gotta go, baby.” he told you.
“no, you don’t. you can tell people i'm dead and your mourning,” you suggested, snuggling further into him.
he smiled, “you know i can’t do that. i really gotta go, y/n.” he ran his fingers through your hair. you shook your head, “look, if you let me go right now, I'll let you pick the movie for our marathon tonight.” that caught your attention.
you stepped, hesitated, and looked up at him, “anything?” you asked, not wanting to sit through another one of dylan’s movie marathon picks.
“anything. I'll even watch your assortment of crying movies tonight.” you pursed your lips, thinking about his offer, “do we have a deal?” he asked.
“we have a deal.” you nodded, rolling off of him, trying to fall back asleep.
“sounds good, boss.” he rolled out of bed to get ready. you smiled, listening to him shut the bathroom door and get ready.
in the ten minutes he took while in the bathroom, you had fallen back asleep. dylan got ready as quickly and quietly as possible. but right before he left, he walked back into the bedroom.
he bent down next to the bed and placed a kiss on your forehead, “i'll see you later. i love you.” he whispered, knowing you probably couldn’t hear him because you were quite a deep sleeper.
later that night, you were nearing your fourth movie and were starting to get tired. dylan watched your eyes close, and knew it was time for bed. he turned off the tv, and pushed the blanket off of him.
he picked you up, careful not to wake you up, and carried you up to the bathroom. he knew if he didn’t do your nightly skincare routine, you would probably verbally murder him the next morning.
once your face was clear of any makeup and cleaned, he carried you off to bed, where he carefully laid you in bed and tucked you in. he got ready for bed, then climbed in next to you.
you had woken up while he was in the bathroom, and the second he was in bed, practically climbed on top of him and koala-ed yourself to him, “i love you.” you whispered into the dead of the night.
“i love you too, baby.” he pressed a kiss to your head, running his hands up and down your back, “i promise i'll never leave you alone,” he stated out of the blue.
“you and me...” you held out your pinky.
“...against the world.” he smiled, linking his pinky with you, causing you to smile.

coffee
Tumblr media
December 17, 2019
Carina was in line waiting for her coffee shene she heard a voice calling her name, a voice she remembered, she turned her head seeing Joseph standing there with a smile.
“Hi Knies.” Joseph lopsidedly grinned as he walked over excited, he hasn’t seen Carina since the Last WJC in January 2018, it’s almost been two years since he last saw her and she has only gotten more beautiful.
“Hi.” Carina bluntly replied with a nod, all she could think is that he looks good. Joseph smiled even more having missed her being blunt.
“Let me guess black coffee with two extra espresso.” Joseph teased her with a large smile.
Carina slowly nodded pursing her lips slightly.
Joseph let out a fond breath, he’s glad he ran into her.
Carina heard her name being called and she grabbed her coffee and another was set down next to her was Joseph’s. Carina walked to an empty table and knew Jospeh was following her, she sat down and gestured to the seat in front of her, Joseph smiled and sat down.
“Caramel latte with extra caramel and whip cream.” Carina spoke as she looked at her window watching the snow fall in Toronto.
Joseph blinked looking shocked that she remembered his coffee order, “You remember?”
Carina looked away from the window and to him “Hard to forget.” Carina spoke watching as Joseph cheeks turned a light pink and all she wanted was to make his cheeks turn pink again. Carina also remembered how hard is to try and forgot about Joseph no matter how much she tried she couldn’t forgot the little ball of sunshine.
“Are you liking Buffalo?” Joseph questioned tilting his head in curiosity.
Carina hummed, “I like it to be warmer.” Carina told him making Joseph let out a laugh not surprised at all knowing how much Carina hates the cold.
“Toronto?” Carina questioned back knowing Joseph had finished college in march and joined the AHL team in Toronto.
“It’s nice, i like the weather and the guys are all great.” Joseph smiled softly at his long time crush and someone he would consider a good friend.
“Good.” Carina nodded knowing that if any deserved to be happy it was Joseph.
“You have game today.” Joseph asked her looking at her for confirmation.
“Yeah.” Carina replied drinking her coffee, and feeling it warming up her hands.
“Want a ticket?” Carina asked nonchalantly looking back out the window.
“You want me to go?” Joseph eyes widen in shock before he smiled softly at her.
“Sure.” Carina shrugged looking nonchalant but she was a little nervous.
“Then i would love to go.” Joseph grinned happily watching as Carina looked back at him and he could see the slight hint of a smile gracing her face that she was trying to hide.
“Cool.” Carina nodded acting as it didn’t faze her, “I’ll send you the tickets.” Carina nodded.
Joseph just fondly shook his head with a very fond smile, “You want more?” Joseph asked her gesturing to her empty coffee mug.
Carina looked at Joseph slightly hesitant but nodded and pushed the mug towards him trying not to flinch as his fingers brushed against hers.
“I’ll be back.” Joseph picked up the two mugs heading to the counter, Carina watched him leave and kept her eye on him as he waited at the counter.
Carina fiddled with the ring on her finger as she watched him, confused with her feelings.
Carina pulled her phone out and got the ticket for Joseph pretty quickly and sent the ticket to him.
Joseph walked back with two cups and lids so they could take it to go, he set the cup in front of her and sat back down.
“Thank you.” Carina mumbled as she picked her cup back up.
“Of course.” Joseph smiled softly back, “I’m assuming you need to get going?” Jospeh asked, he knew there was a few hours until the game but figured she needed to get to the hotel and change.
“Yeah.” Carina nodded and stood up, Joseph stood up as well, “I sent you the ticket.” Cairna nodded and turned around walking away.
“I’ll see you later Knies.” Joseph fondly called back watching her walk away, he smiled shaking his head.
Carina headed back to her hotel and up to her room, she put on a pair of black pinstripe trousers, a purple sweater, a black coat and her black doc martens.
Carina walked down to the lobby sitting down next to Linus waiting for the bus.
Carina was waiting for Tage to get called back up so they could play together again and be in the same city.
Carina walked into the bus sitting at the window seat looking at the window as they drove to the Maple Leafs Arena.
Carina headed into the arena and started getting dressed for warm ups, and started warming up with her team before they got all their equipment on for the ice and started warming up on the ice.
The leafs wine 5-3 but Carina played a good game, with a goal and two assists.
She took a shower quickly and dressed and was one of the first out of the locker room seeing Joseph waiting outside the locker room.
“Good game Ina.” Jospeh smiled as she walked up to him, he thought that purple was her color and the sweater was very beautiful on her.
“Ina?” Carina titled her head looking up at him. She’s never heard anyone ever call her that name before.
“Everyone has their own nickname for you and i thought it was time for me to have one, if you are okay with that if you aren’t then i won’t.” Joseph blushed sheepishly smiling as he explained and started rambling worried.
Carina shook her head and lightly put her hand on his arm, “It’s okay.” Carina interrupted him and took her hand on his arm.
Jospeh’s frowned slighty at her not touching him anymore but also knew it was very big step that she willingly touched him off ice.
“It’s cool.” Carina nodded and gave him a very faint smile before shaking her head, “You hungry.”
“I could eat.” Joseph’s cheeks were pink from getting her to smile at him.
Carina nodded and started walking knowing that Jospeh will always follow her.

I feel so sick for dylan that they signed him to an extension, gave him a letter, and then has to read and see all of these teams are interested in him and the fanbase hoping he’s traded. like wtf. it’s going to backfire big time and all we can do at this point is point and laugh.
I’m sad though. as much as I hate Sabres fans I hate that this is happening to him and would hate to see him go
glad he's off socials tbh because i'm getting sick of the shit they're posting on there about about him. can't imagine how he feels. the entire fanbase celebrating and thinking he's getting traded just cause he missed practice is awful and really tells you how terribly toxic this fanbase is sometimes!!!
i've said it ad nauseum at this point, that trading him is a terrible idea, but the sabres very clearly care more about being a "credible" team in the eyes of the fanbase than actually being good so idc. whatever. "we want players who want to be here" but then you trade away all the players that do want to be here and haven't asked out, or you sit here and torture them with lindy ruff until they do ask. at this point i've seriously given up and am trying to just enjoy dylan's last season as a sabre, before he gets traded somewhere far away, and i don't get to see him as much 😭
it's heartbreaking to me because i know he loves the team and doesn't, for all he's been through, deserve to be discussed like this. everyone saying he doesn't fucking try, meanwhile all the people who know dylan cozens know that "not trying" isn't in his vocabulary. this was a 12 year old who broke his leg in two places when he was playing beer league with ADULTS and came back less than a year later to play high-level elite hockey. piss off with your "dylan cozens doesn't try narrative"
anyways they're making things like this:
Tumblr media
about him, so i'm done with the terrible awful people who can't get his name out of their fucking mouth

Can I request one about Dylan Cozens bringing his girlfriend home to meet his friends and family back home. Everyone tells him how great she is for him and then his dad tells him to make sure he doesn’t let her go
She's Everything We Could Have Wanted for You.
A comfortable silence settles over everyone at the table. You were visiting Dylan’s family during your week off. On your first night, you were introduced to his parents, grandparents, cousins, aunts, and uncles. You’ve never eaten more, laughed more, or felt happier than you were sitting next to Dylan with a hand on your thigh, and his family welcomes you.
You excuse yourself to go use the washroom. Dylan kisses your forehead and reiterates where the washroom is. You walk towards where he is, and Dylan watches you walk down the hallway with a smile on his face. He turns back to his family and sees them all staring at him with wide smiles on their faces.
Dylan frowns. “What?”
“Nothing,” his mother says, but her smile grows wider. “Tell me about Yn.”
Upon hearing your name, Dylan’s smile widens, and he isn’t sure if it’s possible to be happier. “She’s amazing.”
“Oooh, Dylan’s in looove,” one of his cousins teases.
“Shut up,” Dylan says and rolls his eyes. “It’s true, though.”
Everyone gasps at the table. He knew that Dylan had strong feelings for you, but they all thought he was too dense to realize the capacity of his feelings.
“She’s good for you,” Dylan’s mother says. “She brings out this smile that I’ve never seen before. She brings out this twinkle in your eye that only comes out with hockey. She makes you a better person.”
“She’s not wrong,” Dylan’s father agrees. “She turns you into this person that we never knew was possible to be. Don’t let her go, okay? She’s good for you.”
“You better keep her and give me great-grandchildren!” Dylan’s grandmother exclaims, and everyone laughs in response.
Dylan blushes at the words. He’s in love with you; the words haven’t been spoken yet, but he knows he loves you and wants to be with you long term. He’s with you in the long run and will do anything for you. You are good for him; you do bring out this smile and twinkle in his eyes, and he’s a better person because of you. “Get used to seeing her around.”
“Don’t let her go,” Dylan’s father says just as they all hear you exit the washroom. You walk down the hall and sit in your spot next to Dylan. He rests his arm around your shoulder and places a kiss on your forehead.
“The soap in your washroom smells beautiful, Mrs. Cozens,” you say nervously. Dylan’s family was giving you weird looks, and you weren’t sure what to say.
“Oh, I’m glad,” she says and throws you a warm smile. “How about dessert?”
She gets up to start clearing the table, and you do the same. “Let me help with that.”
“Oh, thank you, sweetie,” she says, and you both begin cleaning the table. When you’ve carried a few plates into the kitchen and are out of earshot, Dylan’s mother leans into Dylan’s side to say something to him. “She’s everything we could have ever wanted for you.”
Dylan smiles at his mother. Yeah, you were everything he’s ever wanted in someone, too.

You knew it was going to be an off day from the moment you woke up, there wasn't any exact explanation, you just knew. After tossing and turning around in bed all night, you had only gotten around four hours of sleep and the harsh red lights of your alarm clock seemed to scream 7:00 am back at you. And honestly, you couldn't help but be filled with dread at the thought of what might happen today.
Starting off your morning as usual, you got dressed and then made yourself some coffee, and that's exactly where this terrible day had started. You spilled hot coffee all over yourself and to top it off, you were wearing a white shirt that could now be considered a brown one. After that, your computer died right as you were going to join your English class, and of course, the one time you miss a class is the one time your professor decides to drops a surprise quiz on you.
Around two in the afternoon is when you got a call from one of your close friends, which just added even more misery to this day. As of late, you both had been a little distant, and with the way things were going today, you couldn't help but feel as though something, yet again, would go wrong - but of course that doesn't mean you were prepared for it at all.
You were sitting at your desk when you got the call, and you answered it right away. "Hey, is everything okay?"
A huge sigh was heard from the other side of the phone, followed by a sarcastic laugh, "Oh, so you are alive, that's good to know. You haven't called so I thought you just forgot about me."
"Oh God, no. I'm so sorry dude, school has just be-"
"(Y/N) don't even try to use school as an excuse, you honestly can't. I'm in school too, and guess what? I can still call, I can still check in. It's like you don't even care anymore."
Closing your eyes, you took a deep breath in through your nose to try and calm yourself down, but even that didn't work. You were absolutely fuming and annoyed, and with the day going the way it was, you just snapped.
"Are you serious? I'm always the one checking in, if you would actually check my texts, you'll see all the times I've reached out and have actually tried having a conversation with you, you're just the one who's always brushing it off. I have my own stuff to do, I can't call all the time and even then, calling isn't the only means of checking in."
And then there was silence.
She didn't have anything to say after that, so you just hung up the phone. Not even a few minutes later you saw Dylan's name pop up on your phone screen and you let out a sigh of relief, but that soon went away once you answered the phone. "Hey Dyl, what's up?"
"Hey babe, I just wanted to call and tell you that practice is gonna be running late, so I'm gonna be at your place later than planned." He replied with a sigh of his own.
With tears forming in your eyes, you answered him, "It's okay, don't worry about it. I'll see you later, I love you."
"I'll text you when I'm on my way, I love you too."
You hung up your phone once again and this time threw it onto your desk. You've already had a shitty enough day and you knew he was still coming, but you were looking forward to spending time with your boyfriend earlier rather than later. Slumping back down into your desk chair, you started to cry. You bawled your eyes out - you cried until you couldn't cry anymore.
You were just halfway through the day, but it had already taken such a huge toll on you. It had felt like you were crying for hours, when in reality it was just a few minutes. When you were finally able to calm down, you grabbed some tissues and went to lay down in your bed. The exhaustion overtaking you, and you fell asleep in minutes.
Hours later, you were woken up by the covers moving around and an arm wrapping around you. Slowly opening your eyes, you see Dylan looking down at you and you let out the biggest sigh possible.
"Is everything okay?" He asks as he wraps you in his arms
"Everything has literally gone wrong today, I honestly don't think there was one thing that actually went well." You reply as you rest your head on his chest, “I burned myself with coffee, missed a stupid quiz, and then I got a fantastic phone call from one of my close friends, basically saying that I’m a terrible one.”
“I’m so sorry baby. Don’t listen to her because that’s not true at all, you do everything that you can for her.” He says softly as he begins to rub his hand up and down your back, “And I’m sure if you explain to your professor what happened, he’ll understand and give you another chance to write the quiz.”
“Yeah, you’re right. But right now, I just feel like throwing my phone away and hiding under the bed covers for the rest of my life.” You mumble as you proceed to throw the covers over both of your heads.
With a loud laugh, your boyfriend takes the covers off and goes to get up, “Heyyy, you’re comfortable, why’d you do that? Come back.” You whine as sit up and watch him walk out of the room. “Wait, where are you going?” You yell after him, but he doesn’t answer. Instead, you hear him walking around the apartment and various things rustling.
Looking at the clock, the time reads 6:00 pm, and deciding its late enough that you can just stay in bed, you sit back up against the headboard as you wait for your boyfriend to come back.
After a couple of minutes, he finally comes walking back into the room with bags of chips, various types of chocolate and your laptop. “I have some comfort food, and also your laptop because I know if you don’t send this email now, you’ll probably end up forgetting about it.” He then sets your laptop down in front of you and gives you a light kiss. Once the email is typed up and sent, you put your laptop away and then turn towards Dylan. “Do you think I’m a bad person?”
“(Y/N), absolutely not. You bust your ass for everyone in your life no matter what you’re doing or how busy you are. It’s okay to take time for yourself, especially if you need it and you shouldn’t feel bad about it.” Smiling down at you, he continues, “I love you, and I’m so proud of you for everything you’ve done, but you also need a break sometimes and you shouldn’t feel bad for taking one.”
You reach over to pull him into a tight hug, and whisper, “I love you too, and thank you.” After pulling away, you sigh and look back at him, “Is there anything you wanna do?”
Grabbing the remote, he turns the tv on and starts to get Netflix ready, “Well, all this junk food seems like a perfect time for a little movie marathon.”
“You know, after the day I’ve had that sounds like an amazing idea.”
“Amazing, can I pick the movie?” He asks as he attempts to give you a convincing look.
With a smile, you grab the remote out of his hands, “Oh, absolutely not. You’re gonna suffer through my romcoms like I did through your horror movies last week.”

Shy Boy - Dylan Cozens
Tumblr media
*********************************************************
“Just for a couple of hours!” Your friend, Amanda, begged, “I think you’d have a good time.”
“Isn’t it only a team event?” You asked.
“Yeah, but I get a plus one and Syd can’t come.” She said, “Please? Plus I’ve talked about you so much at work, they think you’re fake since they’ve never seen you with me in person.”
You bit your lip as she continued to beg, you finally having enough, “Okay fine! I’ll go to this stupid… whatever but you owe me.”
“You’re the best!” She squealed as she hugged you before leaving you to get ready.
“What have I done?” You asked yourself.
**
You walked into the venue, Amanda by your side. She started to name players and co workers, you trying to keep up.
“And this is Dylan.” Amanda smiled as she placed her hand on the younger man’s arm.
Amanda was 27 and had absolutely no interest in any of these boys. She was actually engaged to her longtime girlfriend.
You were only 22. You two had met a while ago through her fiancé. You two had worked at a coffee shop together and you two had hit it off, her eventually introducing you to Amanda and becoming close with both. As an only child, these two were like your older sisters.
Dylan’s moth gaped a little once his eyes met your face, him sucking in a deep breath.
“Hi- I’m um-“ Dylan stuttered causing Amanda to stifle a laugh, “Dylan. I’m Dylan.”
"Are you? You dont seem too sure." You laughed as his mouth opened and closed, clearly stunned that the pretty girl had actually spoken to him, "I'm kidding."
He let out an awkward laugh, not knowing how to respond one of his teammates came over to drag him away from the situation.
"Let's go pal." Owen sighed as he clapped his shoulder, guiding him over to where Owen was previously standing with his girlfriend.
"I was fine!" He argued once he got over there.
Vic piped in her opinion, "I think if Owen hadn't of saved you, you'd still be standing there like a fish."
**
The part carried on without a hitch, you eventually finding Amanda, who was standing with some of the guys, a whiskey sour in her hands.
You made your way over to her, her attention diverting to you as a grin spread across her face.
“Hey.” You whispered, her greeting you back.
“Guys this is Y/N.” She formally introduced you instead of just pointing everyone out, “This is Alex, Tage, and Kyle.”
They all greeted you as they got back to the conversation they were having.
You stood beside Amanda, growing bored of the conversation as you grabbed the attention of the bartender.
“What can I get for you?”
“The strongest of whatever you’ve got.” You said as he nodded and walked away.
“Damn, trying to forget about something?” Dylan asked as he stood next to you, “Can I get a beer?”
“No actually.” You shrugged, “I’m off the next two days so I figured, why not? Plus it’s an open bar. I’d be stupid not to take advantage.”
He nodded as he bartender handed both of you your drinks. It had gotten to the point that neither of you had noticed Amanda slip away with the others, them in the corner watching you two interact.
Dylan was telling you a story from his childhood, you grinning and throwing in the occasional comment.
It didn’t take long for you two to get acquainted, time passing quickly before you realized that the party was starting to die down.
“I think I’m going to head out.” You said as you say your drink on the counter, “It was nice meeting you.” You said, offering a bright smile to him.
“You too.” He grinned as he walked away, making his way towards his friends.
You bided a goodbye to Amanda before finding yourself at your car, your phone buzzing in your purse.
You dug it out, seeing a text from an unknown number. Your face flushed as you had an idea of who it was, only because Amanda had said she’d catch a ride later, which only made you think she was plotting something.
Unknown: Hey this is Dylan. Amanda gave me your number. I hope this isn’t weird, but I enjoyed talking to you tonight and I wanted to see if you wanted to go out with me sometime?
Y/N: I’d love nothing more Dylan.

-Little Crosby- |D. Cozens| [Part 1]
It’s finally here! @workhorsefromwhitehorse24 and I have been working on this for a while now and I can honestly say that this is probably my favorite thing we’ve collaborated on! This was a little outside my comfort zone but I enjoyed writing it so much! Hope you enjoy! Let us know what you think!!
“Ava Grace I’m home!” Dad calls from downstairs. I sit up and grab my sweatshirt off of the floor.
“Coming!” I say as I pull it over my head and run out into the hall. I attempt to make it down the stairs without dying but almost fail as I get to the bottom step. “Whoops! Sorry!” I yell as I knock one of the pictures off the wall. He stands in the kitchen doorway and watches me, amused, as I fix the picture then turn to face him, a grin on my face. He had been gone for 2 weeks on a 5 game road trip, resulting in the Penguins going 4-1. Dad scored a pair of goals in the first two games. But sadly, it wasn’t enough of a push to get them to the playoffs.
“Hi Daddy!” I say, running to hug him. He lifts me off the ground and kisses the top of my head. Dad and I have always been super close. It’s been just him and I for years. Ever since I was born, it’s just been Dad and I. Grandma and Grandpa were always in the picture too, along with Aunt Taylor. The 4 of them have been my entire world and my family for the past 17 years. My mom has never been in the picture since she and Dad had me when they were super young, before Dad was in the NHL. Dad had moved from Nova Scotia by himself when he was 15, down to Faribault, Minnesota. Mom and Dad met within his first week of school. Dad tells me I look just like her but from what I can tell, the older I get, the more I look like Dad. But basically one thing turned to another, Dad had his first taste of freedom, being away from his parents and all, and 9 months later, I was born. As soon as Grandma and Grandpa found out, they moved Taylor and everything else down to be with my dad and help out with me. But one Saturday, Mom dropped me off with Dad and told him she had decided she wanted more than raising a baby and my dad so she left me with Dad and left. I’ve never heard from her, except for one birthday card when I turned 6. Grandma and Grandpa raised me alongside Taylor until Dad’s first season in the NHL. That’s when he moved me to Pittsburgh with him. I mean, before he was in the NHL, he made sure that he was a part of my life and made sure I knew that I was his little girl. But it hasn’t really been that big of a deal that Mom hasn’t been in the picture since I’ve had Dad, Grandma and Grandpa, and Aunt Taylor, plus all of Dad’s teammates through the years. It’s been a ride, having a dad like I do. I mean, he’s pretty much the face of the NHL and one of the greatest players to ever play hockey, being Sidney Crosby and all. Everywhere we go, he gets recognized so it was always hard for him to come to my things as I was growing up. But he always made sure that someone was there for me, whether it was one of my grandparents or Aunt Taylor. But even through all of that, my dad is my best friend. I’ve never needed anyone else.
“I missed you so much!” He says, setting me down and looking at me. I smile and nod.
“I missed you too! Nice set of goals by the way. Sorry about the playoffs...” I say, smiling as he walks into the kitchen. He shrugs as I follow him into the kitchen and sit down at the table, watching him wander around the kitchen, making one of his shakes he always drinks.
“It was a long two weeks for sure, but I’m glad I have you to come home too.” I nod and smile.
“Oh Sweetheart, before I forget, we’re going up to Toronto next weekend for the Leafs’ first playoff game, for your birthday. We’ll spend two weeks up in Toronto.” The Penguins missed out on the playoffs, ending their season early. But my Leafs made it to the first round of the playoffs. He smiles as my face lights up. The Toronto Maple Leafs are my favorite team. As disappointed as Dad was in me when he found out, he still supports it, just happy that I like hockey. My favorite player is Mitch Marner, which is a player Dad approves of. He raised me on the ice, around his team and made sure I loved hockey as much as he does. I played for 6 years but I decided I liked watching hockey better than playing.
“Really? We are?” I say, giddy.
“Yep, I think Tanger and Geno are going to come with us. I invited Taylor too, figured we could make a whole vacation of the trip. We can go out to dinner, shopping, all the fun, girly stuff you love. Oh and there’s a surprise flying out to see you too.” Kris Letang and Evgeni Malkin are Dad’s alternate captains and my honorary uncles. Up until about 4 years ago, I had 3 honorary uncles. Marc-André Fleury, the Penguins' goalie and now the Vegas Golden Knights’ goalie was the third. He and Dad are still close which means he still claims the third honorary uncle spot. When he got married in 2012, I was the flower girl. I’ve actually been in all 3 of my “uncle’s” weddings. They’ve been a huge part of my life since I was little, even when Dad was trying to keep me out of the spotlight.  I smile, pushing my hair out of my face. I think the thing that everyone always finds so interesting about Dad and I, is that he did such a good job keeping me out of the spotlight up until I was old enough to understand what was going on. But as soon as I started going to events with him, everyone knew I was his daughter. I mean, I look and act like a female version of Dad so it makes perfect sense that I’m his daughter.
“Ava girl, do you want to see if one of your friends wants to come with us? Might be a little boring to spend your birthday weekend with a bunch of old people.” Dad says, finally sitting down with his gross shake. I nod and laugh, thinking of who I could invite. I go to Shady Side Academy in downtown Pittsburgh, which is a big, fancy private school. There’s a little over 1,100 kids that go to my school, but only about 70 of them are in my grade.
“Oh, I’ll invite Carter. Let me text her and see if she can go.” Carter James has been my best friend since 2nd grade. She’s my total opposite and somehow, it works.
“Okay Honey. I’m going to go lay down for a little bit. Our flight left pretty early this morning so I’m pretty tired. Go ahead and order something for dinner. Anything but pizza please.” I pout a little, my bottom lip jutting out. He smiles and drops a kiss on the top of my head as he walks out of the kitchen and up the stairs. I walk out to the living room and flop on the couch, getting on my phone to watch Tik Tok for a while. Suddenly, the door to the house flies open and my Aunt Taylor waltzes in.
“Hello my absolute favorite niece in the entire world!” She calls, dumping her purse and everything in her hands onto the bench by the door. Grandma decorated the entire house. Dad was going to hire a decorator but Grandma insisted and somehow, Dad ended up liking what she did with the place.
“I’m your only niece so I hope I’m your favorite. But hey Aunt Tay. What’s up?” I asked, sitting up.
“Nothing much. Just came home to drive my big brother crazy and talk about your birthday trip with you. How excited are you? Hey wait, isn’t it your 18th birthday?” I smile and nod again. Aunt Tay is a little scatterbrained and once forgot how old I was turning and bought me a 13th birthday card. I was turning 11. But of course, she always means well and loves me a ton.
“Carter is coming with us. Do you know what the surprise is? Dad just told me there is one but didn’t say anything else.” Taylor grins as she nods.
“I’m not telling you but just know this, you’re gonna be really really excited.” She says, sitting down on the couch by my feet.
“So how’s things at school? Still thinking about going to UPenn?” She asks, tapping her thumb against my knee. I sigh.
“Ugh I don’t know anymore. I fell in love with UPenn when I visited there with Grandma last fall but I don’t know if I want to be that far away from everyone. I mean, it’s only 4 hours but going from how things are now to that? That’s a lot to process.” She nods, watching me.
“Well Honey, you know your dad would make sure you had a car on campus and everything. So you can always come back home and visit. But I mean, it’s been you and your dad since you were a baby. Maybe it’s time to go out on your own a little?” I cringe a little at the thought.
“I don’t wanna leave!” I say, falling into Taylor’s lap and drawing out the end of the word. She laughs and smooths my hair down.
“We’ll figure something out. You’ve still got time, Ava Grace.” She says and somehow, those words make all the anxiety I have about college and everything else coming up in my future fade to a dull roar instead of the screams it has been for the past couple weeks. I’ve always been able to talk to Dad about anything which is why he and I have such a good relationship now. But the one thing I haven’t been able to talk to him about is college. Dad went straight from high school into the NHL. He always claims to understand but I’m pretty sure it just confuses him sometimes.
“Okay you two, it’s very hard to sleep when all I can hear is laughing and carrying on.” Dad says, coming back downstairs.
“Yeah yeah, keep it down, Patrick.” Taylor says, looking up at Dad. Dad hates being called by his middle name which is why Taylor calls him that. He rolls his eyes and bats her hand away as she reaches up to poke him. When the two of them are together, Grandma always says they act like they did when they were little.
“Have you girls figured out everything for us leaving on Thursday? Ava, is Carter going with us?” I grab my phone off the arm of the couch and turn it on, quickly reading the notifications on the screen.
“Yeah she’s going. And she’s gonna be here in 3, 2, 1!” I count down as the door bursts open again. Carter and my Aunt Taylor are two peas in a pod. They’re practically the same person which is why I love them both so much.
“Hello Crosby family!” She shouts, sliding across the floor and landing on top of me.
“Oh this is going to be a long two weeks.” Dad says, laughing and rubbing his forehead.
“So we’re going to Toronto for your 18th birthday? And to see the love of your life? Hell yeah this is going to be a great trip.” Carter says, looking up at me.
“Okay, Carter James, slow down please.” I say, patting her head.
“Wait, isn’t the legal drinking age in Canada, 18?” Carter asks, sitting up and looking at Dad.
“Oh my God Sidney Patrick. You’re taking your daughter to Canada to drink for her 18th birthday?” Taylor says, looking over at Dad with a smirk on her face.
“Taylor Jane, you’d better cut it out or you’re not going anymore.” He says, shaking his finger at her. Carter and I laugh and Taylor rolls her eyes.
“She’s responsible enough to handle this. You two are the ones I have to worry about.” Dad says, pointing at Carter and Aunt Taylor.
“Tanger and Geno are going too? Oh this is going to be a blast!” Taylor says, rubbing her hands together and grinning evilly. Dad’s head drops into his hands and the 3 of us burst out laughing. Carter and I spend the rest of the evening planning our trip out while Dad and Aunt Taylor watch the St. Cloud game. The week leading up to our trip to Toronto flies by, but my excitement for the game only builds. It’s not the first time I’ve been to a Leafs game, nor is it the first time I’ve gotten to watch my favorite player play. But it’s happening on my 18th birthday and that makes it even more exciting.
Thursday morning, two days before my birthday, Carter wakes me up by bouncing on my bed.
“We’re leaving today!” She sings, bouncing more. I roll over and groan.
“Carter James, it’s too early!” I say, shoving her. She laughs at me and I sit up.
“Come on, we’re going to dinner with the love of your life tonight!” She says. I jump out of bed and look at her, eyes wide. I’m 100% a Mitch Marner fan girl. Carter thinks it’s hilarious but she’s the exact same way for Patrick Kane. We ran into him at the Stanley Cup Finals one year and she was speechless.
“What are you talking about? Dinner with who?” I ask. Dad walks in and is now standing in my doorway.
“I called in a few favors and we’re going to dinner with Mitch Marner and Morgan Rielly tonight. How does that sound?” He says, as my mouth drops open.
“Oh my God thank you thank you Daddy!” I say, running over to hug him. He smiles and Carter laughs.
“She’s gonna faint as soon as she sees him. Total freak out.” Carter says, crossing her arms and laughing.
“I am not! I’ll be perfectly fine. It’s just another hockey player. Not like I’m in love with him or anything.” I say, pointing at her. She rolls her eyes and we both laugh.
“Where my favorite birthday girl?” I hear a deep voice call from downstairs.
“Geno, it’s too early for you to be this loud. Shut up.” I hear Taylor say.
“I take it G and Tanger just got here?” Dad calls and Taylor groans in response.
“Alright girls get ready and we’ll leave in a little over an hour. Go down and say hi to everyone first though.” I nod and follow Dad downstairs, Carter tagging along behind me.
“Hi Uncle Geno, Uncle Kris!” I say, running to hug both of them as they stand up from where they were sitting on the couch. Taylor is taking up the other end of the couch, facedown in a pillow. “Are you excited for your birthday trip?” Kris asks, patting my back as he hugs me.
“I’m so excited. Do you know what my surprise is? Dad still won’t tell me.” Geno laughs, still too loud for Taylor apparently because a pillow goes flying across the room and just misses his head.
“Tay, go drink some coffee please, you’re being a brat right now.” Dad says, patting her head.
“I know surprise. You like a lot.” Geno says, crossing his arms and looking down at me. I raise an eyebrow. I’ve been the victim of one of Dad’s surprises before and let’s just say he doesn’t have the best track record when it comes to surprises.
“Is it bad that I’ve been your best friend for 12 years and I still can’t understand what he’s saying?” Carter asks, leaning over to me. I laugh and Geno looks between the two of us.
“Who you? You Ava’s best friend?” Carter rolls her eyes and nudges Geno, who laughs again and hugs her. “Alright, Little Crosby, let’s get this show on the road.” Kris says, pointing towards the stairs. I smile and rush upstairs to get dressed and grab my bags. I pick out a pair of black leggings and a peach colored Adidas sweatshirt. I change into the clothes and put my pajamas in the dirty clothes. I put on mascara quickly, finishing everything off with some lip gloss. I grab my Birkenstocks and slip them on.
“Okay, I’m ready!” I call as I drag my bag down the stairs behind me. I again attempt not to die on my way down the stairs. But yet again, I fail.
“Oh God, Little Crosby.” Kris says, somehow managing to catch me as I trip down the last 3 steps.
“Your daughter is a human wrecking ball. You know that, right Sid?” Dad laughs and nods.
“I haven’t killed myself yet. So far, we’re safe.” Everyone laughs and I smile. All these people filling this house are my entire family. They’ve raised me and I wouldn’t be who I am without all of them.
“Okay, let’s get going! Our flight leaves in 45 minutes!” Dad calls, attempting to herd us all towards the door. Taylor has finally had her coffee and returned to the world of the living.
“Toronto here we come!” She calls as we all get out the door and into the two cars we’re taking. Dad locks the door behind us and turns to look at me.
“You excited, Ava Grace?” I nod and he hugs me to his side.“I hope this lives up to your idea of the perfect 18th birthday.” I laugh and nod again as we head to his car.
The drive to the airport and the flight to Toronto are pretty boring but Kris and Taylor keep everyone entertained the whole trip. Carter finally crashed after the Red Bulls she had while we were waiting for our flight to get called in the airport, leaving me to my own thoughts pretty much the entire flight. When we land in Toronto, everyone is pretty excited for the next two weeks.
“Little Crosby surprise time!” Geno calls from the back of our group.
“Geno, we’re still in an airport. Keep it down a little please?” Carter says, patting his arm. Dad scoffs and looks between me and Carter.
“He’s right though, your surprise is right through those doors.” Dad says, pointing towards the exit of the airport. I see Taylor pull her phone out of her pocket and start recording me. I hand my bag to Kris and look over at Geno who motions me towards the door. I walk towards the doors, which slide open. I glanced around then back at Dad and Taylor who followed me out.
“Little Crosby!” I hear a very familiar voice yell over the buzz of the airport.
“Oh my God! Uncle Flower!” I shout, rushing towards my uncle Marc and hugging him.
“Surprise!” Dad calls, smiling as I hug Marc.
“So you were my surprise?” I say, stepping back and looking at him.
“Yep, I was the big wonderful surprise. Hope you weren’t too disappointed.” He says, smiling as his arm rests around my shoulders.
“I figured you’d want all of your uncles here for your big 18th birthday. So we worked it out and got him here for you.” I smile, quickly hugging Dad before returning to hug Marc again.
“Alright well, it’s time to get heading to the hotel. We’re going to dinner at 6:30 tonight. Geno, Flower and Kris are taking Tay to something that I know nothing about. And you’re okay with Carter going with us?” I nod as Marc leads us and the rest of our group to the waiting van.
“I’m taking a nap when we get to the hotel. You woke me up too early this morning.” I say, nudging Carter as she slides into the van next to me.
“Sounds like a plan. The Red Bull ran out.” She says, laying her head on my shoulder. The two of us manage to fall asleep on the 20 minute drive to the hotel. Geno shakes us both awake when we get to the hotel. We sleepily wander into the hotel and wait in the lobby while Dad and Tay get everything figured out. The adults herd us all over to the elevator and into it, somehow managing to get us all to the conjoined rooms we have for the next two weeks. As soon as we make it into the rooms, Carter and I collapse onto the bed we’ll be sharing and fall asleep.
About 2 and a half hours later, Dad comes in and wakes us up.
“Girls, we have about an hour before we have to leave for dinner. Go ahead and start getting ready.” He calls as he closes the door behind him. I sit up and stretch, the excitement building in my chest all over again.
“Okay, I think I’m gonna curl my hair and wear that frilly, layered red skirt with the white sweater and my little brown boots. What about you, Carter?” I ask, looking back at her who is still laying in bed.
“So I have to dress nice right? I think the army green pants romper thing with my jean jacket, Vans and straight hair. Sound good?” She asks, finally sitting up. I nod and get started curling my hair. She gets started on doing her makeup while I work on my hair. Somehow, we both end up being done with plenty of time left to spare. So we do what typical teenagers do and spend the extra 15 minutes we have, on our phones. Dad comes in and the two of us follow him down to the elevator and out to the car. It’s some super nice, fancy car; just like the one that lives in our garage except on home game days. Dad lets Carter play music which automatically, I can tell, he regrets as Cotton Eye Joe plays for the third time. Carter is having the time of her life and I can’t help but laugh along with her. When we get to the restaurant, it’s one Dad and I came to, back when we came to Toronto for some charity event a few years ago.
“Alright, how excited are you?” Dad asks, as he parks the car and we climb out. I squeal a little and Carter laughs. Dad smiles, draping his arm around my shoulders as I link arms with Carter. The 3 of us waltz into the restaurant and walk up to the hostess.
“Hello, Mr. Crosby. Your two guests are already seated.” I squeeze Carter’s arm and we squeal a little together. As we follow the hostess to our table, back in the back, we pass a table with two teenage boys. One looks Carter up and down, obviously checking her out, while the other locks eyes with me. I smile, forcing myself to look away as we disappear into the back, private room Dad reserved for us.
“Holy crap, did you see those guys?” Carter whisper-yells into my ear. I nod, trying to focus on the fact that Mitch Marner is standing a few feet away from me, a grin on his face, instead of the guy I just saw.
“Hey Sid. This must be Ava and Carter. Nice to meet you girls.” Mitch says, reaching his hand out. I shake it, the smile on my face impossibly large. Morgan Rielly stands next to him and shakes our hands as well. As we all sit down, I happen to glance around the room and see that both of the boys are looking into the room. As much as I want to pay attention to what Mitch, Mo and Dad are talking about, I can’t. I’m too distracted by the boy I saw. Carter, apparently can’t either.
“Ava, they were literally so hot. Can I please go get their numbers?” She asks, nudging me when she catches me staring again.
“No! Dad will kill me if he catches me talking to a boy!” I whisper-yell, glancing up at Dad and Mitch.
“Ava Grace, that could be your freaking soulmate and you’ll never know because you won’t let me go get their numbers!” I roll my eyes and glance over my shoulder at the boys’ table. Sadly, they’re gone and I sigh, looking over at Carter.
“They’re gone anyway. Not like we’re ever gonna see them again anyways.” I say, glumly, resting my chin on my hand. She shakes her head. “There went your soulmate.” I sigh, knowing she won’t let me live this down. Dad clears his throat, pulling Carter and I back to the conversation happening at the table.
“So Ava, I hear you’re a pretty big fan of mine.” Mitch says, leaning on his elbows against the table. I smile, taking in all of his features.
“Yeah, you’ve been my favorite since you came into the league. Dad’s always a little disappointed when I don’t tell people he’s my favorite player.” Mitch and Mo laugh. The rest of the evening, conversation flows easily and Carter and I both have a blast. As I glance at my Apple watch and see the time, Carter nudges me again.
“Your dad is looking at you funny.” She says, nodding her head towards Dad. I look up, my eyes meeting my dad’s gaze.
“It’s getting late, are you girls ready to head back to the hotel? Your aunt and uncles should be getting back soon too.” Carter and I nod and I turn to look at Mitch.
“I’ll be wearing your jersey on Saturday night. Don’t disappoint me. Also it’s my birthday so a goal or two would be nice.” Mitch and Mo laugh as Dad smiles down at me.
“I will try my hardest. Glad we could spend the evening with you lovely ladies. See you on Saturday after the game? There’ll be passes for your whole group at the ticket desk.” My face lights up and I know Carter’s does too.“Okay great! See you then! Good luck!” I say, standing and hugging Mitch. Mo shakes Dad’s hand and then the two of them head out.
“You two seemed very distracted all during dinner. Was everything okay?” Dad asks as the 3 of us head back out to the car after he pays.“Yeah everything was fine. Dinner was super good and fun. Carter just saw some cute boy and wouldn’t shut up about him.” Dad laughs and rolls his eyes.
“Hey, in my defense, your daughter was looking too so it wasn’t just me.” Carter says, crossing her arms. Dad’s head whips around as we climb in the car.
“A boy? What?” I groan internally and elbow Carter. I’ve never been that into boys. I mean, I’ve thought plenty of boys were cute and had quite a few guy friends but I’ve never had the time or the effort that comes with having a relationship. So it’s never been a topic of conversation for Dad and I.
“Nothing, it was nothing. Don’t worry about it, Dad.” I say, trying to avoid the topic.
“It’s interesting though. I was just talking to your uncle Kris about how you’ve never had a boyfriend or anything like that. Which is fine with me because I know what boys are like.” Dad says as we drive back to the hotel. Carter is dying sitting next to me, her hand pressed against her mouth to avoid laughing out loud.
“I-I know...I’ve just never had the time or wanted one.” I say, burying my head in my hands.
“Well you don’t need one. You have all the guys you need in your life. Me, your Uncle Geno, Uncle Kris, Uncle Marc, and Grandpa.” Carter finally bursts out laughing and Dad looks in the rearview mirror at me.
“I’m serious, Ava Grace. Why do you need a boyfriend?” Dad has never really been the overprotective dad. He’s protective for sure but he kind of lets me do my own thing most of the time. He knows if I need to, I’ll come to him or one of the other main adults in my life. But he lets me make my own decisions and figure life out by myself. This whole ‘no boyfriend’ thing that he’s doing right now is new.
“I guess I don’t. You’re right.” I say, putting an end to the conversation by turning and looking out the window. Thankfully, Dad doesn’t push any farther. The 3 of us ride in silence, the radio off, the rest of the way back to the hotel. Once we get into the hotel and up to our rooms, I tell Dad goodnight, give him a hug and a kiss then follow Carter into our room. Carter distracts me from the disaster of a conversation that was with Dad and forces me to watch some cheesy rom-com with her. I fall asleep midway through and sleep in late the next day. Taylor takes Carter and I out shopping all day on Friday while my dad and the uncles do who knows what. The topic of boys is avoided all day, All night at dinner on Friday, we catch up with everyone. I fill Marc in on what Dad’s latest old person moment was, even though he’s only 33. Everything seems so perfect and happy but I keep replaying the conversation with Dad over and over again in my head.
Saturday morning, my birthday morning, Carter wakes me up with cake in bed. It’s a tradition we started when we were 12. Every year on our birthday, the other girl brings the birthday girl cake in bed. It’s one of my favorite birthday traditions.
“Happy birthday Little Crosby! You are adult now!” Geno calls, leading the rest of my family into my room. Dad brings up the end of the line and walks over to the bed. He hugs me, pressing a kiss to my forehead.“Happy birthday my sweet girl.” He says, smoothing my hair down and getting all teary-eyed.
“I can’t believe the young lady you’ve grown into. You are beautiful, strong, independent and so responsible. I...I didn’t think things would end up this way, especially with your mom not being in the picture. But I look around you and I see all these people who helped raise you and I know, you’ve turned out more than okay. I love you Ava Grace and will always love you. Happy birthday.” Dad says. I take another bite of the cake Carter brought me and smile up at him.
“I love you so much, Daddy. Thank you for everything. Thank you everyone for everything you’ve done for me. I love all of you.” They all share a sappy smile and I keep eating my cake. The rest of the day, we hang out at the hotel, lounging around before the game tonight at 7. Marc and Geno see how many pieces of pizza they can eat while Dad keeps score. Taylor paints Carter’s nails and I pick at mine. Kris sneaks out to buy me ice cream and comes back with at least 10 different kinds, all of them my favorite in one way or another.
Carter and I start getting ready around 4:30 so we’re ready to leave by 5. I straighten my hair and do just light makeup. I dig my Mitch Marner jersey out of my bag and put it on with some black leggings. Carter wears the jersey of the only Leaf she likes, Frederik Andersen. She opted for black ripped jeans instead of leggings. Everyone else is just dressed casual. Marc did wear a Leafs hat just to please me. The drive to the arena, Carter gets to play music again. She plays our ‘Hockey Game Hype Up’ playlist, something we made a few years ago. Even though I’m the music person, she’s much better at putting playlists together. I’m only really good at finding one or two songs I love and just playing them over and over again. As the songs ‘Auston Matthews’ by Svdvm and ‘Toronto Maple Leafs Anthem’ by JDME play back to back, we pull into the arena parking lot. No matter how many times I’ve been to Scotiabank Arena, it never ceases to amaze me. I think I’ve been here a grand total of like 15 times in the last 10 years, solidifying it as my favorite arena.
“Come on Ava, let’s go watch your boy play.” Carter says, linking her arm through mine. She leads me and the rest of our group into the arena. Everyone else heads to the box but I decide to stay down in the main area and wander around a bit, making sure I get the full experience again. All around me, Leafs fans are hurrying to one place or another. I take everything, wanting to remember this for the rest of my life. As I’m walking down a small set of stairs, I collide with a pretty solid body. And of course, with my human wrecking ball abilities, I manage to take both of us down, all the way to the ground. “Shit! I’m so sorry, are you okay?” I ask, sitting up and looking at the boy I collided with. He sits up, looks at me, down at the ground, then back up at me. His eyes are huge.
“I-Oh my God. Yeah-Yeah I’m okay! Are you?” He asks, jumping to his feet and reaching his hand out to help me up. I take his hand and he pulls me to my feet. “Yeah I’m all good. Sorry for taking you out. I’m known for being clumsy. Like the jersey by the way.” I say, pointing to where the number 16 is stitched into the arm of his jersey. The same number sprawled across my back.
“Hey, I like yours too. Marner your favorite player?” I nod, pushing my hair back out of my face.
“Yeah, I grew up a Penguins fan because of my dad but the Leafs are my favorite team.” He smiles and nods. He looks so familiar but I can’t place where I know him from. Talking to him comes so naturally and it seems like the world just goes on around us while we stand there and talk. Before I know it, they’re starting the lineup announcements.
“Oh shoot, I gotta get going. Enjoy the game!” I call over my shoulder as I run back towards the box we’re all sitting in. Of course, I trip up the steps and almost fall. As I glance over my shoulder, I see the boy with a smirk on his face. I blush and mentally kick myself for first off accidentally tackling a cute boy then tripping and almost falling in front of him. As I rush back into the box, Dad eyes me with a raised eyebrow. I huff and flop into my seat next to Marc and Carter. Carter glances at me out of the corner of her eye and smirks.
“Why are you all red and bothered about?” I bite my lip and Marc looks over at me.“I accidentally tackled a cute boy…” I say, burying my head in my hands. Carter and Marc laugh and Marc pats my back.
“There there, Little Crosby. I did much worse to your aunt Véronique.” I laugh and lean my head on his shoulder. Geno and Kris are behind us, teasing Taylor as Dad watches what’s going on down on the ice. His hand is resting on my shoulder, absentmindedly squeezing and releasing in a protective way. As I sit there, watching the game, all I can think about is the boy. But as I do, I think about the conversation Dad and I had last night in the car. Did he really mean what he said? Would he really get upset if I did ever decide to have a boyfriend?
