i have so many thoughts on the characterisation of AU Sylvies and whether she ends up like Problematic Thor 1 Loki and the reasons for and against that idea, and also about how to translate her into non-canon settings where the obvious/easiest answer is to make her live in a bin vs CEO Nepo-Baby Loki who you've paired her with and how that's bringing in a specific class-based-but-also-very-gendered power imbalance that isn't in the original but unfortunately it is hard to talk about it without naming or inadvertantly hitting upon actual fandom examples so i mostly just complain a bit without really making the most of the excessive level of attention i have given this topic in my own mind.
#my go-to fake example is usually 'they are rival violinists in a coffee shop' which i don't THINK is a real sylki au but it might be.#i may have been really really mean about someone's coffee shop based rival violinists fic and not even on purpose.#there is a fic in my head where she's Jotun Princess Sylvie but i want her to be a good foil for Problematic Thor 1 Loki#who (imo) shares with his brother the issue of not being *malicious* as such but being so oblivious that he may as well be.#neither of them gives a fuck about the 'collateral damage' of their actions mostly just cos it's never occurred to them that they should.#(I Blame The Parents Of Course.)#and that's 95% just a Generic Rich Kid thing isn't it? so Jotun Princess Sylvie can absolutely be like that as well.#but in the tradition of diplomatic marriage she has to go live in some other realm and so she's understandably annoyed about that.#and obviously for Asgardian Princess Sylvie the big question is whether her sex changes the rivalry dynamic with Thor and so on.#i feel like Loki's problem is partly that being a Jotun *could* explain why he feels he less than Thor. It gives him a 'real' reason.#but probably Sylvie was already putting all of that on her womanhood so what does an additional 'reason' do for her?#like it's pretty fucking obvious why everyone thinks she's less worthy of the throne than Thor AND it's not really her fault.#so would she rage against The System rather than her brother who also didn't get to choose how people treat him? IDK!#but the point is that for Sylvie I think the Jotun reveal has different implications and it might not start her villain era.#because there's already an obvious source of all the unfairness (whether real or invented) she feels a victim of.#also if you're into recreating the norse 'gay magic vs no-homo magic' divide then her being a woman obvs affects how that impacts her.#'you can't nuke them with magic! that's a womanly... oh okay carry on. sorry princess i couldn't see your breastplate from that angle.'#consider: sylvie as the one going fucking apeshit on jotunheim because their king thinks the word 'princess' is an insult >:(#sylvie my precious blorbetta#LET HER BE PROBLEMATIC SOMETIMES GUYS SHE'S THE HOT BADDY FROM THE AVENGERS FOR FUCKS SAKE!!!!#what is even the POINT of casting a woman in a usually male role if she's not going to be a terrible person sometimes?#something something women's rights and women's wrongs.#she is a CEO NEPO-BABY who lives in a bin!! you need to give her the same starting background! she's not ACTUALLY working-class!#in a generational/systemic sense!#(omg that's so problematic of her <3)

How to Make F*ck You Money Using Your 8th House💸
Let's talk about F you money...the kind of money that buys freedom, power, peace, and the ability to say "no" without guilt. The kind of money that screams main character energy. And guess what? Your 8th house holds the key.
The 8H in astrology rules over shared resources, passive income, investments, inheritance, $ex work, shadow work, transformation, power dynamics, and yes...BIG MONEY. Think generational wealth, not just what's in your checking account.

Step 1: What Sign is on Your 8th House Cusp?
This shows the vibe of how you handle money from others, investments, and power. Here's the tea:
Aries -> You get big money by taking bold risks, being first, and having a boss b*tch attitude. Crypto? Only if you're first. Entrepreneurship? Yes ma'am.
Taurus -> You attract wealth through luxury, patience, and beauty. Real estate, slow investments, sugar baby vibes. Rich auntie/uncle energy.
Gemini -> You get paid to talk, think, or write. Digital assets, intellectual property, courses, or content that keeps paying you forever.
Cancer -> Wealth from family, real estate, and emotional labor. Generational wealth, healing work, or investing in homey assets.
Leo -> Fame, visibility, and charisma = money. Your presence alone is profitable. Passive income through fans, royalties, and performance.
Virgo -> You monetize your skills, routines, and healing abilities. Systems, services, editing, health and wellness work, and digital products.
Libra -> You attract wealth through beauty, relationships, and luxury. Partnerships, sugar daddies, aesthetic businesses, or passive fashion income.
Scorpio -> Powerhouse. You were born for F you money. Wealth through mystery, sex work, investments, and deep transformation. You can flip pain into profit.
Sagittarius -> Money through teaching, publishing, and going global. Travel content, spiritual coaching, or international biz? Goldmine.
Capricorn -> You build wealth over time. Passive income from systems, institutions, or your own empire. Think CEO bag.
Aquarius -> You make money through innovation and being ahead of your time. Tech, astrology, community platforms. Viral = income.
Pisces: Dreamy dollars. You remake money in mysterious or spiritual ways. Art, music, dreams, healing, even OnlyFans.
Step 2: What Planets Are in Your 8th House? (Your Superpowers)
Each planet here tells you how you make that boss-level, passive, transformative money.
Sun: Your power and identity are tied to your ability to accumulate and manage wealth. You're meant to live off royalties or investments. Your legacy pays your bills.
Moon: You intuitively attract wealth. Cyclical income. You can profit from nurturing, healing, or female dominated spaces. Wealth may come through family or emotional work.
Mercury: You write, speak, or strategize your way to money. Stock tips, intellectual property, or sharing taboo knowledge. You make $$$ from secrets.
Venus: You're literally made to attract luxury and resources. Sugar baby potential, creative investments, passive income from beauty or love-based businesses.
Mars: You hustle for that money. Sex work, bold business moves, and aggressive investing can be major wins. You thrive in high stakes financial spaces.
Jupiter: F*ck you money is your birthright. You naturally expand and attract wealth often through spiritual wisdom, teaching, or blessings from others.
Saturn: You build wealth slowly, but it's unshakeable. Passive income through discipline, real estate, legacy building, or authority in your field.
Uranus: Sudden windfalls, viral moments, and unconventional income streams. You were born to break the rules and still get paid. Internet wealth = chef's kiss.
Neptune: Spiritual, artistic, or mystery money. Think music royalties, dreams turned into passive profit or even hidden/inherited wealth. Trust your intuition.
Pluto: You're a financial powerhouse. You attract wealth through transformation, shadow work, or high stakes environments. Sex, death, taxes? You run it.
North Node: Your destiny is to become wealthy through other people's money, deep transformation, or taboo topics. Follow the path of power.
South Node: You've already mastered wealth in a past life; now you're learning to share it or evolve past it. Don't cling to scarcity.
Chiron: You've been wounded by money, sex, or power...but healing these wounds makes you RICH. You can guide others through their darkness and get paid for it.
Your 8th house is your wealth witch zone. It's not your salary...it's what keeps the money coming while you sleep. Use your placements to tap into wealth that's bigger than you, tied to transformation, and often a lil taboo.
You don't just make F you money; you embody it.

Shen Yuan is transmigration sillyputty. Observe.
AU where he transmigrates into a rogue cultivator? Love those. Demonic cultivator for some spice, secret cultivator, beast expert cultivator, and more!
Transmigrate into a no name desciple? It's good to expand on dynamics. Same age as the protagonist? His shidi? His shixong? Or is he among the Qing generation of disciples! Lots of options.
Into a pidw harem member? Why not? There's at least 300 of them, go nuts, make one up for kicks or pick a canonical name to play with! Canon's your oyster.
Into other existing characters? Of course, that just makes sense. Other peak lords, other cultivators, his students, whatever suits your fancy.
Into a random new npc somewhere in the world doing average stuff? We love the creativity. A young master, a scholar, sometimes a farmer.
Into a sword! Love it!! Xiu Ya, Xin Mo, or maybe he's a different artifact entirely!
Into a demon? Definitely, there's several. Noble demons, no name wife material demons, new never before seen kinds of demons.
Into a CAT!? WE GOT YOU. other animals too, but catzun is classic. Dragons are also up there.
Into a worm?!? We love him even as a worm.
Into a SYSTEM? IVE SEEN AT LEAST 2 OF THESE.
He's sillyputty. We throw him at transmigration concepts to see how he sticks.
#the variety is impressive yall i love this neighborhood#AND THATS NOT EVEN COVERING AUS WHERE HES A PIDW NATIVE OR WHERE HES PULLED INTO IT VIA BINGGE#svsss#scum villian self saving system#shen yuan#shen qingqiu#addition - and in all of these binghe will love him. YES EVEN THE WORM#thing i made

★⋆. — HOGWARTS ELECTIVE CLASSES TO SCRIPT

˚ ✦ . . ˚ . . ✦ ˚ . ★⋆. ࿐࿔
𓆩♡𓆪 — ENCHANTED ARTIFACTS
ever wanted to know how cursed rings, bewitched mirrors, and sentient diaries work? this course teaches you how to identify, dismantle, and (if you’re brave) create magical relics—you never know when you’ll need an enchanted necklace or a vanishing cabinet, i suppose
𓆩♡𓆪 — WIZARDING FASHION HISTORY
from the enchanted silks of the 1500s to robes that literally spark joy (or flames) in the 1900s, this elective dives into the who, what, and why tho of wizarding couture. you’ll learn how clothing reflected magical politics (hello, anti-Muggle fabrics), the most popular clothing charms over the centuries, and why Merlin’s pointy hat was such a massive deal at the time
𓆩♡𓆪 — CURSE REVERSAL
sometimes, magic backfires—this class teaches you how to undo everything from jinxed cauldrons to full-on blood curses. it’s half science, half art, and fully life-saving
𓆩♡𓆪 — HEALING
for the bleeding hearts (and bloody injuries). this elective teaches advanced healing charms, restorative potions, and how to fix the most catastrophic accidents without having to Floo to St. Mungo’s. class is split 50/50 between the healers of the next generation, and mischief makers that are so unhinged they have to heal themselves. this class sees all the good, the bad and the ugly
𓆩♡𓆪 — DRAGON STUDIES
learn all about the physicality, variety, and history of these dynamically unique creatures, and perhaps learn how to not get torched while studying them along the way. the course includes field trips (waivers from home and insurance spells VERY much required)
𓆩♡𓆪 — CHARMED CULINARY ARTS
enchanted cooking utensils will be your best friend as you navigate this course, learning to do everything in the kitchen from baking bread that sings to brewing drinks that bubble with magic. (house elves are assistants in this class, and you can always convince them to slip you an extra treat or two)
𓆩♡𓆪 — ADVANCED DIVINATION
tea leaves and crystal balls don’t even begin to scratch the surface of everything divination has to offer—if you’re a believer, and grounded enough to put up with the kooky professor. this course dives into obscure methods of divining the future: dream walking, cloud reading, rune casting, and much more. perfect for the more spiritually inclined students (or those who just enjoy the professor’s cryptic drama)
𓆩♡𓆪 — MAGICAL FORESICS
got a Sherlock streak, or always wondered how the aurors do it? learn how to dissect magical crime scenes, trace hex signatures, and untangle the threads of a cursed crime
𓆩♡𓆪 — MINISTRY POLITICS & MAGICAL LAW
in this course that’s absolutely not for the academically faint, you’ll find yourself taking part in debates more than any other course. debate the ethics of using Veritaserum in court, or why house-elf labor laws are a mess. these students are likely future members of the Wizengamot
𓆩♡𓆪 — ENCHANTED HOMEKEEPING
from self-sweeping brooms to magical security systems, think Martha Stewart meets The Standard Book of Spells. this course covers everything you need to know about using magic to run the most efficient household ever (you get a headache when you think about how Muggles do all of this without magic)
𓆩♡𓆪 — ALCHEMY: THE ART OF TRANSFORMARION
arguably the ultimate nerdy class—i’ve yet to meet a single person who wanted to handle the theories and coursework of this class. learn the secrets of transmutation, potion refinement, and (the whole thing’s pretty mysterious) all about the quest for immortality
𓆩♡𓆪 — SPELL CREATION THEORY
an elective created as the direct remedy for students making overeager and academically misguided attempts to make their own spells (some spells don’t exist for a reason, Fred and George.) learn the theory of how to craft spells from scratch and fine-tune them to your exact needs—perfect for the creatively chaotic. though, of course, you don’t actually make spells in class (that’s a direct ticket to St. Mungo’s)
𓆩♡𓆪 — THEORY & ETHICS OF NECROMANCY
strictly theoretical, of course (for legal reasons), this class dives into the magical theory of spirits’ existence, resurrection spells, and the history of necromancy. it also manages to cram most of one of the longest-standing debates in magical history into a year-long course (we can raise the dead, but should we? HM, i wonder)
𓆩♡𓆪 — WANDLESS MAGIC
if you’re someone who thinks ‘why bother with a wand when you are the magic?’ this course is for you—it trains you in wandless spellcasting, so you can cast even when you’ve “misplaced” your primary weapon
𓆩♡𓆪 — WIZARDING FOLKLORE
from ghostly greenhouses to the allegedly haunted halls of Hogwarts, from ancient fairy tales to horror stories that keep even the bravest wizards awake at night, this course covers all of the folklore and tall tales from centuries of wizarding history and storytelling
𓆩♡𓆪 — ENCHANTED CARTOGRAPHY
i’m sure you already know that making an enchanted map is a skill that never goes out of style (cough, Marauder’s.) in this course, learn to create enchanted maps that move, update themselves, and accurately portray secret rooms and passageways (though they might not cover the more mischievous aspects in the course, i’m sure you can figure those out on your own time)
𓆩♡𓆪 — MAGICAL ETHICS & PHILOSOPHY
all the way from time turners and truth serums to love potions and dementors, this course holds a magnifying glass to all the moral dilemmas of using magic in gray areas—just because you can hex someone doesn’t mean you should, and if you need a love potion, maybe you should reexamine some things first
𓆩♡𓆪 — QUIDDITCH ANALYTICS
a course all about the stats, spells, and tactics behind the wizarding worlds’ favorite sport. think of it as sabermetrics, but with broomsticks. students are an even split of quidditch players, and those who love quidditch without wanting to zoom hundreds of feet above the ground (understandable)
𓆩♡𓆪 — WANDLORE & CRAFTING
take your first step towards becoming the next Ollivander by studying wand woods, cores, and how to match them with their perfect witch or wizard. careful, your own wand might be open to more scrutiny than you’re accustomed to. warning: NOT a class for people with butterfingers
𓆩♡𓆪 — MOVING PHOTOGRAPHY
learn how to properly snap a good photo and develop moving pictures, charm them with special effects, and create photo albums that are magically cohesive enough to tell their own stories. with moving photos holding entire memories, someone always needs a good magical photographer
𓆩♡𓆪 — GRIMOIRE WRITING & SPELL JOURNALING
every great wizard of the past and present had a grimoire to keep track of their endless magical escapades. learn how to create your own spellbooks, safely document your findings, and make them impossible for dark wizards (or just nosy siblings) to read
𓆩♡𓆪 — MAGICAL LINGUISTICS
communication is key, whether it’s haggling with goblins, charming house-elves, or negotiating with dragons. this course helps you break through the language barrier—literally—to the entire wizarding world and all its species
𓆩♡𓆪 — MAGICAL JOURNALISM
for aspiring Rita Skeeters (hopefully no one, let’s make it ethical), this course covers investigative reporting, spell-resistant quills, following the honor code of interviewing and writing, and even some tips on how to charm the Daily Prophet editors with your work and score a job in the journalism field. NO Quick-Quotes Quills allowed, ever !!
𓆩♡𓆪 — TIME MANIPULATION THEORY
absolutely no time-turners allowed, despite learning all about them. learn the ethical and practical implications of bending time, including nearly every historical horror story of witches and wizards who got a little spin-happy with the power. (does the course only exist as a big fat warning for the students who are granted use of a time turner? we’ll never know—but yes, probably)
𓆩♡𓆪 — MUSIC & ENCHANTED COMPOSITION
a course taken by many of the choir members, which allows you to delve deep into the magic behind musical spells, how to ethically enchant instruments for killer performances, and both writing and performing magical compositions. don’t mind the frogs in class, they’re brushing up on their technique, too
𓆩♡𓆪 — SPELL COMBAT TACTICS
this course covers a mix of strategic dueling with battlefield planning, as it covers pretty much every notable magical duel and battle in history. perfect for those angling to join the Aurors, or those who are just looking to win every wizarding duel
𓆩♡𓆪 — WIZARDING THEATER
this course involves combining drama with charms to bring stories literally to life on stage. props are enchanted and can interact with the actors, the weather matches each set, and actors might just float mid-scene. students can sharpen their acting and set enchantment skills to hopefully be on one of the great wizarding stages one day (or working behind the scenes of one)
𓆩♡𓆪 — MUGGLE STUDIES: ADVANCED INTEGRATION
forget the “what’s a toaster?” training-wheels shit—this course is about truly blending wizarding ingenuity with Muggle innovation. a popular course among muggleborn students, who have the opportunity to actually use their heritage in their favor to explore a whole world of social and magical possibilities

Something constant. | joel miller x f!reader, 9.1k

Summary: You are Tommy’s best friend, Joel’s constant complication- the one woman he can’t touch without breaking. But when years of tension finally snap, Joel has no choice but to face what he’s been running from: the fact that you’ve always been his, whether he deserves you or not.
Warnings: 18+ MDNI, ANGST (like- I'm putting them through it like my life depends on it)(it does.), SMUT, reader is 5 yrs younger than Tommy, so that leaves a 10 yrs age gap with our man, emotional and physical abuse, toxic dynamics: mentions of abusive family but nothing descriptive or graphic, mentions of abusive boyfriends and unhealthy relationships in general but nothing descriptive or graphic, substance use: mentions of gambling and intense sexual content: grinding, nipple play, fingering, cum eating, unprotected PIV, dom!Joel. Please be aware and read responsibly.
A/N: Well, well, well- what do we have here? It’s been almost a year since I last posted anything of mine. This is not some breakthrough, or something you haven’t read before. For some reason, I decided to forgo dividers and use titles instead. Where did that come from? Lord knows. The writing and rhythm feel a bit different, especially in the beginning- don’t ask me to explain, I’m not a trained professional. I also think I used dashes more than I ever have before, maybe I'm addicted, who knows. (They made sense, ok?) Anyway, I don’t know why I’m rambling; I don’t even know if you still remember me, but hey-(oh look, another dash!) I'm still here and I’ve missed you guys!
P.S.: Oh- oh and please don’t forget, as always, I hate summaries!
Dividers by @cafekitsune

They say you only get what you think you deserve in this life.
They must be gravely wrong then, because you don’t think you deserve Joel Miller. Not for one second. And yet, somehow.. here you are.
But let’s take things from the beginning.
The past.
You and Tommy met when you were young. Well, he was young. You were young..er. Which, by default, made Joel the old..er brother.
You and Tommy became fast, inseparable friends. You were both drawn to mischief and that made you almost instantly thick as thieves. He’s always been like a brother to you. You spent summers at the Millers’, crashed there during rough times.
You didn’t have a stable home life. You learned from a young age to adapt.
Actually, you learned a handful of helpful things: how to read faces, microexpressions, words unsaid and gestures unmade. When to activate your sympathetic or parasympathetic systems. When to freeze. When to hide. When to run. Especially where to run.
The destination was always the same, the Millers’ house. Tommy and by extension Joel, became your lifeline.
The one person you could never read to save your life though, was Joel Miller.
Joel, always wiser, quieter, intense. You called him “sir” jokingly. He called you “kid.” Typical.
He wasn’t warm, but he was reliable. Always picking Tommy up from trouble. Always fixing things. Always there.
You admired him before you even understood why. He never faltered. Never drifted.
As you grew up, that admiration turned into something deeper. But beyond that, all you could ever figure out was that he didn’t like you all that much. You guessed you were used to that. You’d had your whole life training for it.
The hidden love.
You never said anything. Joel treated you like a kid.
Even as you matured, he stayed distant, protective, but formal.
You kept it to yourself, how you felt about him and tried to date others. No one ever measured up. Of course they didn’t. They didn’t even give you the bare minimum.
But even when they did -rarely- your heart was singing only for Joel.
What a stupid fixation, you thought.
To crave the safe. To long for the normal. To love the constant.
But he provided. So you did.
Truth be told, you’ve never shared much with Joel. He was always orbiting your friendship with Tommy, anyway. He was the big brother. He was always around, mostly to keep an eye on Tommy, if you had to guess. So, inevitably, he ended up getting to know parts of your life, of you.
Like right now, when you wish more than anything that he never knew you at all.
You see, you’re in a bad relationship. You don’t tell Joel as much. You never would.
But Tommy knows.
And if Tommy knows, Joel does too.
Because Joel is observant. He always watches. He always has.
Like you said, to keep Tommy straight. Wasn’t his fault if you were always around. So it wasn’t that hard to figure you out. To notice things.
Like you, clinging to people who give crumbs of affection, because you grew up without real support.
Like you, staying with your boyfriend after he apologizes, crying, believing it meant change.
The sleepover.
Tommy lets you crash at Joel’s place. You don't even need to ask; it’s practically a given. He thinks it’s casual, just like always.
You feel safe there, even with Joel being standoffish. He never kicked you out, though. His door was always open when you needed it and that meant something. It had to, right?
But when you settle into the familiar room and mattress, you have a confession to make. You admit to Tommy that you forgave your boyfriend because “he cried and I thought maybe he deserved another chance.”
“Jesus..” Tommy sighs, his brows pinched in frustration. Not at you but at the lucky bastard who’s havin’ it easy.
He doesn’t know what else to say to make you see; you are enough. Enough to stand on your own. You don’t need anyone else to feel whole. Complete. Relevant. Seen.
But who is he to talk? He’s always carryin’ his own demons, makin’ his own same mistakes; always havin’ Joel anchor him to reality, like you’re havin’ him.
Tommy sits on the bed next to you, searching your eyes. “What are you not tellin’ me?”, his voice soft and caring like a knuckle brushing against a cheek.
Goddamn Miller brothers and their ability to read you like an open book.
You avoid his gaze, looking anywhere but him.
He calls your name now, sternly. Serious. Patience was never really his strong suit, but then again, you already knew that. “Done playin’ games, darlin’.”
Tommy pinches your chin, forces your eyes on his. “Spit it out.” He speaks like he’s scolding you, but his thumb brushes gently over your knuckles.
You start stammering, the words to admit your level of failure elude you, like smoke curling in the air. You pick at a loose thread on the blanket. Your knee bounces once, then twice. You suck in a breath like it’ll help you speak. It doesn’t.
“I- I-” you exhale loudly. You rehearse the sentence in your head but it comes out wrong every time. Too much. Too small. Too pathetic. You hate that it’s even real. “I think he spent all of my savings on gambling.”
Silence.
It hangs there, thick and heavy, filling the room like smoke. You don’t dare look at him. You regret saying it already. It feels too real now, like speaking it out loud makes it official.
Tommy doesn’t respond right away.
You half-expect him to curse, maybe yell. You’ve seen that version of him. Loud, angry, Miller.
But when he finally moves, it’s quiet. Gentle.
He rubs a hand down his face, exhales slowly, the kind of breath that says I don’t know how to fix this, but I want to.
Then, softer than you were ready for- “Why didn’t you tell me sooner?”
Your eyes stay glued to the worn edge of the blanket you’re gripping. “I dunno.” Your voice is small. Pathetic. “Guess I didn’t wanna see it.”
He leans forward, elbows on knees, staring at the floor for a moment before glancing your way. “You gonna tell Joel?”
That makes your head snap up. “What? No- no. I don’t want him to know. He’ll just-”
You stop. You don’t even know what exactly you’re afraid of. Joel being disappointed? Joel being right? Joel looking at you like you’re one of those strays he has to keep out of the yard?
Tommy narrows his eyes just a bit. “He ain’t like that, you know.”
You shake your head. “You don’t know how he looks at me.”
Tommy gives a little snort. Amused. Tired. “Pretty sure you don’t know how he looks at you.”
Your breath catches. And now you have to look away.
He sees it. Of course he does. Goddamn Miller brothers.
Tommy doesn’t press. He just shifts closer on the mattress, hand resting lightly on your shoulder. No pressure. Just there.
“You’re not stayin’ with him anymore,” he says. “We’ll figure the rest out later.”
That “we” shouldn’t hit you in the chest the way it does.
But it does.
You nod once, quietly. You don’t say thank you. Not because you’re not grateful, but because you’ve learned that some kindnesses are too big for words.
Joel’s Judgment.
Sunlight’s starting to crawl into the kitchen. Joel’s already up, nursing his coffee, sleeves pushed up, working a stubborn hinge loose on the cabinet door.
Always fixing what breaks, never what’s breaking him.
He’s got that tired, focused look, the one he wears when there’s too much on his mind and nowhere to put it.
Tommy walks in after a while, hair still a mess, rubbing sleep from his eyes. You’re not around, maybe still in the spare room, maybe hiding from the weight of everything.
Joel doesn’t ask, not directly. He never does. But he eyes the hallway, then glances at Tommy.
“Everything alright with her?”, he asks almost indifferent while still working on the cabinet door.
Tommy runs a hand over his face. Hesitates. Then shrugs.
“She always ends up with assholes, doesn’t she?” Joel mutters under his breath.
Not angry. Not cold. Just.. detached. Like he’s trying to put you in a box he can label and keep at a safe distance.
Tommy’s halfway to the coffee pot when he freezes.
His voice comes out sharper than intended.
“Jesus, Joel.”
Joel looks up, brows raised. “What?”
Tommy slams the pot down harder than necessary. “She thought she could trust him. He cried, said he’d change, you know how that goes.”
Joel watches him now, more alert. “What’re you talkin’ about?”
Tommy exhales through his nose, pacing once. Shit. Then- too late to take it back- “..The bastard drained her savings. All of it. Gambling.”
Silence.
Joel blinks once. Sets the screwdriver down slow, deliberate. Like he actively accepts he’s capable of murder right at this moment.
“You serious?”
Tommy just nods, jaw tight.
Joel doesn’t say anything at first. His face hardens, not with judgment, but with something else. Something Tommy has seen too many times before. That cold, calculating kind of quiet. Like when a storm’s just out of sight but already coming.
He glances back toward the hallway.
And for the first time in a long time, Joel Miller looks like he might actually break something.
The confrontation.
“Is she really that stupid?”
Joel’s voice cuts through the air, low, gritted, sharp like broken glass.
You weren’t even trying to eavesdrop. Just happened to walk toward the kitchen, bare feet soft on old floorboards, the kind that creak at the worst moments.
But now you’re at the doorframe.
And you’ve heard it.
They both freeze when they see you.
Tommy’s mouth parts like he might say something -anything- but Joel gets there first. He takes a step forward, guilt blooming all over his face.
"Wait-", time fractures; each fraction of a second splitting into aching pieces, stretching into eternity, as he struggles to find the right words. "That’s not-"
You flinch back. Not from fear, from instinct. Like touching him would burn.
Your eyes are glassy, breath stuck somewhere between your chest and throat.
You tried so fucking hard. For years.
To believe he didn’t despise you. That it was just the way he was, guarded, quiet, rough around the edges. Maybe, just maybe, under all that brooding, he gave a damn. Not enough to love you, but enough to keep you torturing yourself. Hoping.
You clung to scraps. Glances. The open door. The silence that wasn’t quite rejection.
But now- now you have your answer.
He reaches out and you step further back, hand half-raised like a warning.
“Don’t.”
Your voice cracks.
“You’re cruel, Joel.” His name tastes foreign, like something you were never meant to say out loud. Not in this kind of sentence. Not aimed at you.
He flinches.
“You have no idea what it’s like to be alone and still try to believe people can be good. That they’ll change. That you matter enough for someone to try.”
You laugh bitterly. Short, sharp.
“I used to think that was my strength, it gave me hope, nurtured my heart.”
You shrug, mouth twisting.
“Now I just feel stupid.”
Joel opens his mouth and this time his voice is soft. A crack in the armor.
“Sweetheart-”
It halts you.
Like something forgotten and fragile just cracked open in your chest.
He’s never called you that. Never reached for softness when it came to you. You were always kid, background noise, someone tolerated.
But this- this name, heavy with something almost gentle- it lingers.
Uninvited warmth in the middle of a wound. A wrong word at the worst possible moment.
And just like that, you falter.
Your footing slips, like the floor forgot how to hold you. You hate that it gets to you. You hate that part of you still wants it to mean something.
You snap.
“No.”
You shake your head, fast, like you're trying to physically push the word away.
“No, Joel. You made what you think of me very clear.”
You take another step back, voice trembling but strong.
“You sorry you said it or just sorry I was there to hear it?”
He looks like he’s on the verge of breaking. But you don’t let him. A quiet kind of peace settles over you- cold, final. It’s all done now. Sealed. Clear. Maybe hope was never meant for you. Maybe it ruined more than it ever gave.
“I’m sorry. Sorry for having a heart. For seeing the good in people. For thinking maybe, just maybe, I could believe in something better.”
A beat. “For thinking you’d ever see me as something more than a burden.”
Then the final twist- “But hey- I guess if anyone knows what it’s like to be an asshole, it’s you.”
Silence.
You turn around.
And this time, when you walk away, you don’t look back.
The void.
The door doesn’t slam. He almost wishes it did, something loud, something final, something that could match the sting in his chest.
But no.
It’s the quiet that kills him.
He stays there, frozen. One foot half-forward like he still thinks maybe he can catch you.
Maybe call you back.
Maybe undo it.
Too late.
Tommy doesn’t speak. He’s seen this side of Joel before, the kind that hits hard and then stands in the wreckage, not knowing how to fix what’s left.
Joel drags a hand down his face, slow. Tired.
He feels like he just handed a loaded gun to someone he swore he’d protect and it went off in his own damn hands.
He sinks down onto the edge of the kitchen chair, his elbows digging his knees. Staring at nothing. Staring at the space you occupied moments ago.
“Didn’t mean it like that,” he mutters defeated. “Not like that.”
But there’s no one there to hear it.
The room stays still.
Tommy leans against the doorframe. Crosses his arms. Watches his brother fall apart without making a sound about it.
He wants to say I warned you.
Wants to say You crossed a line you can’t uncross.
But what good would it do now?
Joel doesn’t need a lecture.
He needs a time machine.
Tommy sighs, low, deep; rubs the back of his neck.
“You love her,” he says simply. Not a question. “You just don’t think you deserve her.”
Joel doesn’t look up. Doesn’t argue.
Tommy nods to himself, jaw tight.
“Then I hope to God you figure out what you do deserve, before she’s too far gone to look back.”
He pushes off the frame and walks out, boots heavy on the floorboards, leaving Joel alone with the quiet and what he’s done.
The conversation.
Tommy stepped out onto the back porch with two beers. Joel was already out there, sitting in silence, the lamp behind him casting long shadows across the wooden floorboards. He didn’t say anything when Tommy handed him one.
They sat for a while.
“She didn’t mean to hear it, y’know,” Tommy said eventually. “Was just.. bad timing.”
Joel didn’t react. Took a sip. His expression remained flat.
“Maybe it’s better she did,” he muttered, eyes fixed on his thumb as it peeled the label off the bottle- then drifting back up again, straight into nothingness.
Tommy bent forward slightly, fingers laced together. “Jesus, Joel. What the hell’s goin’ on with you?”
Joel’s eyes stayed lost in the dark. “She’s the kind of woman who believes in second chances. Believes people can be better. Damn, she forgives the unforgivable like it’s just another Tuesday.”
“Yeah,” Tommy said softly, almost in awe. “I know.”
“But me?” Joel’s fingers tightened slightly around the neck of the bottle. “I’ve run out of people to prove wrong. And if she ever looked at me the way I look at her.. God help me, I’d take it. I’d take it and I’d never let go. Which is exactly why I can’t.”
Tommy went quiet for a moment.
“You really think you’re that far gone?”
Joel gave a hard smile. “You see the man I am now. But she didn’t see who I had to be. Who I chose to be. I’ve done things, Tommy. Not the kind that sends you to jail- the kind you do when you look out for your own. I walked away from people who needed me. I picked you over them. And I’d do it again, but that don’t mean it didn’t mark me.”
“You did what you had to do,” Tommy said sharply. “For me. For us.”
“That don’t make it right.”
“Doesn’t make it wrong either.”
Joel’s voice softened, almost a whisper. “She thinks people can change. I know they don’t, not really. And I ain’t gonna be the one to prove her wrong.”
Tommy studied his brother for a long beat. “You ever think maybe she sees who you are now ‘cause that’s who you are?”
“She’s not like us, Tommy,” Joel said flatly. “She’s strong, but not cold. Got this light to her that-”, he stopped, sighed. “I ain’t got no business even standin’ near.”
“Bullshit.” Tommy said. “You love her.”
“And that’s the goddamn problem,” Joel snapped. “I need her. And if I let myself need somethin’ that good and I lose it..”, his face shifted, darkening into something grim and unyielding, “-Lord have mercy on anyone standin’ in my way.. I don’t think I’d come back from that.”
Tommy leaned back in his chair, head tilted up toward the sky.
“She’s not gonna break you, Joel. She’s already holdin’ your pieces together. You just too scared to admit it.”
Joel took another sip as silence settled over them once again. There was something fragile in his voice now.
“I have a brother, you know,” he said with a dry quip. “He trusts me with everythin’. Even her. I can’t give him a reason not to.”
Tommy laughed bitterly. “I think he’d be more pissed if you kept hurtin’ her just to protect him.”
Joel stared off into the night, beer forgotten in his hand. Another beat of quiet. His resolve was cracking slightly. Not entirely. Not enough. Not yet.
Then, barely above a whisper-
“A man like me don’t get to want things like her.”
The explotion.
It’s been weeks.
No word from Joel.
Tommy checks in from time to time, but he doesn’t say his brother’s name. Not once.
And you don’t ask.
You tell yourself you don’t care. That the silence doesn’t ache.
Then one afternoon, Tommy texts you:
"Swing by Joel’s place. Left some stuff for you in the garage. I’ll be back in 10."
You don’t think twice. You go. You assume Joel’s at work. He always is.
But when you step inside, the air is too quiet. Tommy’s truck is gone. And then you hear a key turning in the front door.
Joel walks in.
You both stop in your tracks. He blinks, like he’s not sure if you’re real. Your heartbeat drums in your ears. You mumble something about Tommy. He nods; says nothing at first. Just sets his keys down on the table.
He glances at you. There’s a hesitation, like something’s been living in his throat for too long and he’s finally decided to let it out.
"Tommy said you.. broke things off."
You nod stiffly, eyes dropping to your feet, like they could carry you away from him. Like they ever would.
He shifts his weight, almost uncomfortable. His voice is low, a little rough, when he dares-
"That guy ever lay a hand on you?"
Your jaw tightens.
Not this again. Not from him. Not when he’s the one who shattered you last.
"Not everyone’s lucky enough to have Joel Miller in their corner." you bite out before you can stop yourself.
His brows twitch and you don’t wait for him to respond. The words keep spilling now, bitter, broken, sharp.
"I don’t let people touch me or talk to me like that. Not anymore."
Your eyes flash, not with anger, with hurt.
"But you? I made an exception for you. God knows why."
He flinches. Not dramatically. Just a subtle shift in his jaw, his breath caught wrong.
Like it’s only now hitting him that being let in -truly in- came with weight. That he held something fragile in his hands and dropped it anyway.
And you?
You hate that your voice breaks on the next part.
"You were the only one I thought I didn’t have to protect myself from."
He takes a step forward. Slow. Careful. Like he’s approaching something wounded and wild.
You don’t move- not back, not forward. Just watching him, tight-lipped and trembling like you’re holding yourself together with spit and thread.
"Don’t," you say, low and hollow.
He stops. Hands hovering like he might reach for you and thinks better of it. Again.
"Kid-"
You flinch at the nickname. Just slightly, but enough. He notices. Of course he does.
That damn observant look of his. It used to make you feel seen. Now it just makes you feel exposed. Like he sees the ache he put there and doesn’t know how to address it.
He doesn’t know what to fix first.
The way he spoke to you?
The way he looked at you after?
The way he didn’t come after you when you left?
He opens his mouth. Closes it. Tries again.
"That day, I didn’t mean-"
You cut him off, voice like stone, "You never mean to. That’s the whole problem."
The silence after is raw.
He doesn’t step closer. He doesn’t step back. He just stays there, suspended in regret.
Like, he finally understands the difference between being in someone’s corner and being someone they can truly rely on.
The tension is suffocating. It coils in your lungs like smoke, thick and hot and inescapable.
Joel says nothing. Quiet again. Resigned. His eyes fix somewhere over your shoulder, or maybe nowhere at all. You can’t tell.
He won’t even look at you. You were always a ghost to him, weightless. Unseen.
A haunting he never asked for.
A slight inconvenience, someone he tolerated for Tommy's sake. Never close enough to matter. Never far enough to ignore.
And that tells you everything.
You’re not getting an explanation. Not now. Not ever.
Whatever that moment was, the truth he nearly let slip, the rawness behind his voice, it’s already retreating back into the dark.
You feel it, the distance returning, sharp and cold, like the final click of a door locking from the inside.
Of course. Of course he’d leave you standing there with nothing. Of course he’d choose silence again.
Because that’s what he does. That’s what he’s always done.
And suddenly your chest feels too tight, your throat dry, like your body’s trying to brace for impact but the crash never comes.
So you nod. Once. Slow.
You turn to leave and he doesn’t stop you.
But as you move past him, something inside you screams enough. And before you can stop yourself-
“Why do you hate me so much?” you ask, your voice cracking before you mean it to. You weren’t even going to say anything, but the way he always looks at you, jaw clenched, arms crossed, that permanent scowl — it’s been eating at you for years.
Joel’s response is a gruff, confused, “What?”
“Every time I’m around, you act like I’ve done something wrong. Like you can’t stand the sight of me. I just- what did I ever do to you, Joel?”
His face shifts. Something flickers in his eyes- not anger. Something else. But it’s gone before you can name it.
“You didn’t do nothin’.” he says quietly.
“Then why? Why are you always so angry with me?”
He won’t look at you. Something between a huff and a laugh escapes his mouth, like he’s mocking you. Silence stretches. But you keep going, your voice sharper now, almost shaking.
“Is it because I’m not your business? Because I was always just Tommy’s dumb little friend hanging around? Or is it just fun for you; pushing me away over and over until I finally take the hint?”
“Don’t put words in my mouth.” he snaps, his voice cold and defensive, eyes glittering with barely-contained rage.
“Then say it!” you bite out, bitter and breathless. “Whatever it is you’ve been holding back for years; say it. Tell me what the hell I ever did to make you look at me like I’m something you need to keep your distance from.”
You’re flushed now. Heart pounding. He still won’t look at you. So you take a step forward.
“Is it because I’m too young? Because I’m soft? Because I forgive people who don’t deserve it?”
Now, finally, Joel looks at you. Maybe he thinks this is meant for him. Maybe he knows he’s one of those who don’t deserve it- forgiveness. Your forgiveness. And something inside him snaps.
“It’s because I can’t afford to look at you the way I want to.” he says low, furious.
You blink. Whatever you were expecting, it wasn’t that.
“It’s because every time you walk into a goddamn room, I feel like I can breathe for the first time in days. And that shouldn’t be your burden.”
“Joel..” you whisper, barely audible.
He goes on, more raw now.
“You think I’m angry with you? I’m angry with myself. For wantin’ something I got no right to want. For feelin’ like maybe -maybe- there’s a version of me that could be good enough for you. But there ain’t.”
He laughs once, bitter, shaking his head.
“I push you away because if I didn’t, I’d never stop reachin’ for you. And you deserve better than a man who can’t let himself want good things without breakin’ ‘em.”
Silence. His jaw tightens. His fists clench at his sides.
“I would’ve given you everything, Joel.” you say, voice trembling. “You didn’t even have to ask.”
He looks at you like you’ve lost your mind. Like you just said something cruel. His face twists- not in anger, but disbelief. Something almost panicked beneath the surface.
“You don’t mean that,” he says, quiet, almost pleading.
“What?” you ask, startled.
“You think you do, but you don’t. You’ve always looked at me like I’m some fixed thing. Like I’m solid. Steady. That ain’t love, sweetheart. That’s just safety.”
You blink, like he’s slapped you. And he keeps going, like he has to kill the feeling before it grows roots.
“You don’t want me. You want the idea of me. What I was to Tommy. What I never was to you.”
“If I ever let you close enough to see what’s really here,” Joel gestures vaguely- to his chest, his heart, whatever broken thing still beats inside him, “you’d realize you don’t love me. You just mistook the feelin’. And I can’t be the reason you lose that part of yourself.”
But you’re steady now. Hurt, but unwavering.
“Don’t you dare tell me what I feel.”
Joel stiffens. But you don’t stop.
“You think I saw you as safe? You? With that goddamn storm behind your eyes? With the way you look at the world like it already failed you?”
You step closer. You don’t shout; you just slice.
“I’ve spent years trying to figure out why the worst parts of you still felt like home. Why every time you pushed me away, I wanted to stay. Why I kept waiting for one -just one- moment of softness from you like it might be enough to last me a lifetime.”
You laugh, bitterly, like he did earlier.
“You think I made you into something better than you are? No, Joel. I saw all of it. Every wall. Every silence. Every time you looked right through me like it would be easier if I just disappeared.”
You swallow hard. Your voice cracks, just once.
“And I loved you anyway.”
Silence. He stares at you- stunned. Maybe horrified. Maybe something else. You’d say he almost looks scared of you; if you didn’t know any better.
You continue, quieter. “You don’t get to tell me I mistook the feeling. You just didn’t want to believe anyone could see the truth and stay.”
And then you push again, sharp, your voice shaking with rage and pain as you step forward.
“So, I ask you again, Joel, because you’ve failed to answer me, how dare you tell me what I feel?”
He exhales, tired, low. “I’m tryin’ to protect you-”
“No,” you cut him off. “You’re protecting yourself. Because it’s easier to believe I’m just confused than to admit someone could really love you for who you are. Even with all the shit you carry.”
He flinches. You see it. And it only hurts more.
“I do love you.” you tell him. “I love the man who sits in silence and makes sure everyone else eats first. The man who takes the blame even when it isn’t his. The man who looks at me like he’s drowning but won’t reach out.”
You’re toe to toe now. Your voice drops.
“You think that’s not real? You think I don’t know the difference between comfort and love after everything I’ve survived?”
Your next words come softer, almost breaking.
“You’re not some ghost I projected things onto, Joel. I see you. And I still want you.”
You’re standing so close you can feel the heat of him, the weight of his breath on your face and for a second, you think maybe- maybe this is the moment he’ll finally stop holding back. You reach out, slow, your fingertips brushing the side of his jaw, tentative, trembling with everything you can’t say.
“Joel..” you whisper.
But the second your hand touches him, he flinches- just slightly. Like a breath he wasn’t ready for. Like instinct. But it’s enough. You freeze, your hand falling, your face crumbling. The air goes out of you all at once.
“Right. I- got it,” you say, pulling back, your voice thin and wrecked.
You turn quickly. You don’t want him to see your face, the way it crumples, the way your shoulders shake.
He doesn’t move at first- he’s frozen, like the breath has been punched out of him. But then-
“Wait. Wait- no. No, don’t- don’t do that,” Joel blurts out, panicked.
You keep walking. He follows.
“Don’t you dare think that was about you,” he says, more urgent now.
You stop at the door but don’t turn around. His voice is shaking. You’ve never heard him like this.
“You think I flinched ‘cause I didn’t want you to touch me?”
Your fists clench at your sides. Your heart pounds on your chest; you’re sure he can hear it.
“I don’t know what to think anymore,” you admit quietly, trying to hide your broken voice.
Joel crosses the distance between you before you can move again. His hand catches your wrist- gentle but firm, turning you to look at him. His voice is low, rough, but soft in a way you’ve never heard before.
“I flinched because it felt like everything I’ve been tryin’ not to feel for years just broke wide open.”
You finally look at him. His eyes are dark, wet, desperate.
“Because the second you touched me, I wanted to fall into it. Into you. And I’ve spent so long convincing myself I don’t get to have that.”
His hand slides to your cheek- slowly, like he’s asking for permission with every inch.
This time, he touches you. His thumb brushes your jaw, reverent. Like he’s memorizing the shape of you in case he loses the right to ever do this again.
“You scare the hell outta me,” Joel breathes, “because you look at me like I’m someone worth lettin’ in. And I ain’t. I know I ain’t. But-”, he leans in, his forehead resting against yours, his voice shaking, “-just this once. Let me pretend I am.”
You don’t move. You don’t speak. You just breathe -ragged, shallow- afraid that if you say anything, the spell will break and he’ll pull away again.
But part of you still doesn’t trust it.
Not fully. Not yet.
“Joel..” your voice comes soft, almost broken. “Please don’t do this if you’re gonna disappear tomorrow.”
He doesn’t answer, and you can see the war raging inside him; you can almost taste it. The doubt. And that silence? It kills you.
So you turn. Ready to leave, to protect what’s left of you.
But he moves, fast.
He doesn’t grab you, just steps into your path, like it’s instinct. For a moment, he considers pressing his palm to the door to stop you. But after everything you’ve been through, he knows better. Even now, even here, he remembers.
“Don’t go,” Joel says, low and aching. One hand half-raised like he’s scared of touching you, scared of what it’ll mean if you let him.
“Why?” you ask, sharp, trembling. “So you can push me away all over again tomorrow?”
He flinches, but he doesn’t look away. He looks at you like he’s falling apart, eyes dark and wide, as if just saying this next part might break him completely.
And then-
“Because if you walk out that door thinkin’ I don’t love you, I won’t survive it.”
The realization.
Your breath catches.
His words settle like thunder under your skin. You look at him -really look- and for the first time, there’s no mask. No guarded distance. Just raw, shattered truth.
He takes a slow step closer, like he’s giving you time to run.
"You still wanna walk away?" Joel’s voice is hoarse.
You don’t answer. You can’t.
Joel’s thumb brushes your cheek, his hand warm and steady now, no longer holding back. His forehead rests against yours, and when he speaks, it’s like a promise that’s already been broken.
"Tell me to stop. If you do, I swear I will."
But you don’t. You can’t. Not when he’s looking at you like this. Like you’re something he needs to survive.
"Don’t," you breathe.
That’s all it takes. The dam breaks. He exhales like he’s been holding his breath for years and then his mouth is on yours, hungry, devastated, like he’s sorry and aching and starved all at once.
His lips are rough but his hands are gentle, like he’s trying to memorize the feel of you. The kiss starts slow, reverent and builds, deepens. His hands cradle your face, your waist, pulling you closer like he can’t get enough. Your fingers knot in his shirt, dragging him down, pressing into him.
You gasp into his mouth, and he groans like it’s a sound he didn’t mean to let out. He presses you back against the wall, not rough, not aggressive, but desperate.
"Been wantin’ this for so long.." he murmurs into your mouth.
Your hips shift and he feels it- the press of you against him. His hands fall to your waist, dragging you tighter against him, grinding into you like he needs the friction, needs proof this is real.
You arch into him, needy, breathless. He presses into you, the thick line of his thigh between yours, the heat of his body unbearable. Every little grind is slow, controlled, but filled with hunger.
"You don’t even know what you’re doin’ to me…" Joel’s voice is hoarse, dark and full of disbelief.
You whimper at the sound of it. He rests his forehead against your neck, breathing hard, hips rolling into yours.
"Then show me," you whisper, soft and ruined.
He kisses you again, deeper this time; his tongue slipping past your lips, tangling with yours in a slow, deliberate rhythm. You think you’d float away, lost in a dream, if the coarse scruff of his beard wasn’t there, grounding you, prickling the skin around your lips.
His hand slides under your shirt, just skin and warmth and a shiver down your spine. But then he pulls back, just a little, breathing hard.
"If we keep goin’, I don’t think I’ll be able to stop."
"Then don’t."
Your lips part from his, breaths mingling in the heavy air. Joel’s hands don’t rush; they trace the lines of your body through your clothes, deliberate and sure, like he’s committing every inch of you to memory.
His fingers slip under the hem of your shirt, ghosting over your ribs, fingertips grazing your skin lightly before returning to the fabric. One hand cups your waist, pulling you flush against his hard thigh- the heat there like a magnet.
You shift your hips slowly, grinding against him, feeling the solid muscle beneath the fabric, the tension building with every tiny movement.
"So needy already.. what happens when I really touch you?" His voice is low and rough.
You whimper, pressing closer, needing more contact.
"Feels good, baby? Keep grindin’ just like that."
His hands slide to the front of your shirt, palms cradling your soft breasts, thumbs sweeping lightly over your nipples through the thin fabric. He feels them stiffen instantly beneath his palms, the reaction so visceral it sends a jolt through him, something raw, almost primal, uncoiling in his chest. His fingers pinch and roll them with just enough pressure to make your back arch, to draw a broken gasp from your lips.
He watches you writhe, mesmerized by the way you react to every twist of his fingers, the way you shiver and press into his hands like you need more- need him.
Your hands find his wrists, holding him close, desperate for more.
His thumbs drag slowly again over the sensitive peaks, his mouth watering at the thought of that taut skin against his tongue and he swears under his breath, voice thick.
"Joel- please.." you breathe.
He chuckles darkly, his lips brushing against your jaw. His brain is deep in a haze of desire and need; he's not in control anymore. Maybe he never was- maybe he was always waiting for you to undo him.
His thigh tightens beneath you, holding you steady as you grind harder, matching his rhythm without words. His fingers tease, flick, and pinch lightly, coaxing every sigh and tremble from you.
"You feel that? That’s mine. You're gonna come for me, right here, just like this. Show me you’re mine."
You arch into him, breath hitching, heart pounding as the friction and his teasing combine into a storm inside you. His hands roam with growing confidence, undeterred by your soft moans and shudders. You can feel the heat pooling low in your belly, spreading fast and he’s right there- steady and sure beneath you, grounding you even as your senses spiral.
The world narrows to the feel of him, the sound of your ragged breaths and the tight coil of pleasure winding up inside you.
Your breaths come faster, your chest rising and falling as Joel’s fingers trace tight circles over your nipples, every pass sending sparks of heat through you, even though he still hasn’t touched you directly. Your hips grind harder, trembling as the tension coils tighter and tighter.
You cry out softly against his pouty lips, your body shuddering against his thigh. The warmth pools low and spreads, waves crashing through you and he swallows every little whimper and moan like a man parched. Your fingers clutch his shirt, digging in as the pleasure ripples and crashes, leaving you breathless and undone.
"God.." Joel whispers, voice almost breaking.
He watches you fall apart- skin flushed, eyes half-lidded, lips parted and something inside him twists.
The love scene.
His hands freeze for a moment, not wanting to disturb you but desperate to hold onto you. He leans closer, forehead resting against yours, breath warm and steady. Joel watches -intense, silent- his gaze fixed on how your body unravels under his touch, how every shiver and sigh seems to pull at something deep inside him.
His hand stills, hovering just above your skin, afraid to break the fragile spell but desperate to hold onto this moment. His jaw tightens, eyes dark with a storm of emotions he won’t speak aloud- need, protectiveness, and something rawer he’s terrified to admit.
He wants to say something, anything, to stop the rush of feelings, to keep things safe and simple. But the words catch in his throat.
Instead, he simply presses his forehead against yours, breath warm and uneven, trying to steady himself. His body tenses beneath you, a silent war raging inside him; he’s drawn to you like never before, but his mind is screaming that this could burn everything to ashes.
Your breath stays uneven, chest pressed to his, foreheads touching like you’re both holding on to something that would vanish the moment you let go.
"Joel, look at me."
He hesitates. You can feel it- the tremble in his hands, the slight shift in his stance, like his whole body’s braced for you to disappear.
"I’m lookin’."
"I’m still here."
And you are -flushed, shaking, pupils blown wide- but still tethered to him, anchored in this fragile space between fear and want. You watch the fight flicker in his eyes. The way his jaw clenches. The way his hands, warm and steady a moment ago, are now flexing like he’s trying not to grab hold too tight.
"You shouldn’t be."
"Don’t."
He closes his eyes, just for a second. Like that word, like your voice, cuts deeper than it should.
"I don’t know how to do this without hurtin’ you."
"I’m already hurt, Joel. But not by what we just did. By you thinking I can’t decide for myself what I want."
That hits him. You see it. The flinch. The ache. The guilt sinking its claws in.
But you don’t stop. You can’t.
"You don’t have to be perfect. You don’t have to be safe. I just need you to be real."
He looks at you like he’s drowning again. Like you’re offering him something he’s too afraid to take. But his hand rises anyway -slow, hesitant- and brushes your cheek again, thumb catching a tear you didn’t know had slipped down.
"I don’t wanna lose this. Lose you. But I don’t know if I can be the kind of man you hold onto."
"Then let me decide that."
You take his hand. Place it against your chest. Let him feel the way your heart hammers beneath your ribs.
"I already am. Can't you feel it?"
One breath. Then another. Joel exhales slowly, like something inside him just gave up the fight. And what’s left is raw and exposed and his.
He kisses you again, slower this time. Less desperation, more reverence. Like a man memorizing his last breath. And this time, he doesn't pull away.
The kiss deepens again, but there’s no trembling now. No flinching. Just heat. Just his hands moving with purpose, sliding beneath your clothes, skin on skin, rough palms and calloused fingers learning you like he’s starved for the taste.
You gasp as he lifts your shirt, tugging it over your head and tossing it aside. His eyes drag down your body like a slow burn, reverent, almost disbelieving.
"Jesus Christ.."
He cups your breasts, thumbs brushing around your nipples, already raw and swollen from his earlier attention, watching the way your back arches into him like instinct. His mouth follows next, hot and open against your tender skin, teeth grazing your stiffened peaks with aching slowness.
Your cunt is pulsing painfully in anticipation, your panties soaked and surely ruining the thick denim of his jeans. All you seem to be able to do is beg for him one more time.
"Joel- please.. I can't-"
He growls -actually growls- the sound scraping low from his chest, like he’s been waiting years to hear that. His hands roam lower, finding the button of your shorts, undoing them slowly, deliberately, giving you just enough time to stop him, but you won’t. You can’t.
Your hands are just as greedy, tugging at his shirt, desperate to feel him, to know him the way he’s never let anyone close enough to know. When you finally get it off him, it’s almost too much. All of him -broad and solid and burning under your palms.
"Tell me if you want me to stop."
"I want you to fuck me, Joel."
A pause. A beat. Like the words steal the air from his lungs.
Then he moves.
Your back hits the wall again -gently, but firm- and his body follows, pressing against yours, one hand slipping into your panties, fingers sliding through slick heat with an almost broken sound.
"You’re so fuckin’ wet.." he breathes against that sensitive spot right beneath your ear and you can feel his hard cock grinding for relief against your hip.
You cry out as two thick fingers slide into you, curling just right, slow and deep. Your soft walls flutter around his digits, welcoming the intrusion. His other hand grabs your thigh, hitching it up around his waist. He’s grinding into you now, rutting slow, the thick line of his cock still trapped behind denim- but you can feel it. Every inch of it, hard and pulsing through his jeans.
The slick, obscene squelch of his fingers pumping in and out of your soaked cunt only makes you ache more, arousal spilling down his wrist. You’re so fucking close to snapping, to breaking apart if he doesn’t fuck you right now.
“God, Joel- need you inside me-”
"I know, baby. I know. I got you."
He pulls his hand back, wet with you and brings it to his mouth, sucking his fingers clean with a groan that makes your knees buckle. Then he tugs your shorts down, sliding them off you and undoes his jeans, shoving them low enough to free himself and—
Fuck.
He’s thick. Long. Heavy in his hand as he strokes himself once, twice, eyes fixed on you like you’re the only thing keeping him standing.
Heat spreads across your skin and you’re acutely aware of how vulnerable you are and how completely ready your body is for him. You lean forward, gently brushing his hand away and replacing it with your own. He hisses at the contact. The head of his shaft pulses against your palm, and your fingers curl around him, unable to stop yourself from feeling how rock-hard he is.
"I’ll go slow. Just.. hold onto me.", his voice is low and thick with need. Your heart lurches at the raw sincerity in his tone and you press your body closer, arms instinctively wrapping tightly around his neck.
He lifts you effortlessly, one leg hooking around his hip and pulling you flush against him. With one impatient tug, his fingers sweep your panties to the side, and cool air skims over your heated skin.
The slick tip of him nudges at your entrance, and a sharp gasp escapes you as you feel him teasing you through your wetness.
He sinks into you with one slow, steady thrust and you arch back, teeth gritting to keep the first cry from escaping. A fierce burn flares deep inside as the first inch slides in, and you instinctively dig your nails into his shoulders.
He groans, bending to press his lips against your ear, and exhales your name as he pauses. Inch by inch, he pushes deeper, every fraction of an inch driving wild pleasure through you. Warmth and fullness bloom between your bodies and a long, trembling sigh escapes as your muscles flutter around him, completely filled, leaving you both panting and still.
"That’s it. That’s it, sweetheart, takin’ me so good.."
He stays there, buried deep inside you, forehead resting on your shoulder, both of you trembling, both of you lost.
Then he starts to move.
Slow. Deep. Unrelenting.
The song of your bodies meeting- skin against skin, the slick, filthy rhythm of it- fills the room. Your moans spill into his mouth as he kisses you again, tongue tangled with yours, every thrust more desperate, more real than anything either of you has ever known.
"Wanted this.. fuck, wanted you for so long-" he mumbles and you don't know if he's talking to you or to himself.
"Don’t stop. Please- don’t stop-"
He doesn’t. He can’t.
He’s fucking you like he means it, like this is the first and last time he’ll ever get to love someone like this- with everything in him, without apology, without restraint. His hips snap into you with purpose, rhythm deep and relentless, like he’s trying to bury himself in you, like he’s trying to leave part of himself behind.
You can feel the tremble in his arms where they hold you steady, the sweat slicking between your bodies, the way his breath stutters every time you clench around him.
Your name spills from his lips like prayer- wrecked, reverent, desperate. He dips his head into the crook of your neck, mouth open against your skin, teeth dragging over your pulse point like he needs to anchor himself before he loses it completely.
"You feel so fuckin’ good," he groans, voice raw. "Shit- don’t know how I ever lived without this."
Your nails dig into his back, trying to pull him closer, trying to keep him right there- inside you, on you, with you. You meet every thrust with your own, chasing that edge together, breathing each other in like oxygen.
Your drooling cunt chokes his dick with every pulse, soaking him all the way down to the base, slick spilling down his balls and ruining his jeans. The sounds of skin slapping skin make you both feral with lust. Your breasts bounce with every hard thrust, your nipples dragging against the coarse hairs on his toned chest, slick and flushed from the effort.
His hand snakes from the small of your back to the base of your neck, wrapping firm- grounding, claiming. You feel your walls flutter instantly under his grip.
“Not yet,” he breathes- simple, sharp, possessive- against your pleasure-parted lips. Like he knows your body better than you do. Like he knows you'll obey.
“Not till I say. You hear me?” His breath is hot against your lips. “You come when I take it from you.”
Everything in you screams to hold on, to never let go of this feeling- this heat, this fucking need. It’s too much and still not enough. Your vision swims with unshed tears, pleasure cresting into pain, into surrender.
His other hand grabs your thigh, spreads you wider and he drives in deeper, his cock hitting so deep it knocks the breath from your lungs.
“I need to hear it.” he snarls, forehead pressing to yours, eyes wild. “Say it. Say you’re mine.”
Your jaw falls open on a gasp, but no sound comes. You can’t. You can barely breathe. He fucks into you harder, his grip tightening.
“Say it, baby. Say it or I stop. Say who this pussy belongs to.”
Your eyes fill with tears- overstimulated, overwhelmed but your voice still breaks through.
“You- Joel, fuck- you- I’m yours- please- don’t stop-”
He groans, deep and guttural, like that was all he needed to unravel.
“That’s right. You’ve always been. Even when I couldn’t have you. Even when I told myself I shouldn’t touch you.”
He drags his mouth over your jaw, your neck, breathing you in like a man starved.
“I’m gonna ruin you for anyone else. I want you so fucked out and full’a me, no one else ever stands a fuckin’ chance.”
It’s too much- the pressure, the stretch, the heat, him. You try to hold back, to obey, but your walls flutter dangerously around him and he feels it.
“Now.” he growls, voice tearing through the air like a command from God. “Come for me.”
And when you finally fall apart around him- walls pulsing, thighs trembling, stars bursting behind your eyes- you gasp his name like it’s the only word you know, clinging to him like you’ll never let go.
“Mine. Fuckin’ mine.” he growls before he follows you with a broken moan, hips stuttering, his whole body seizing as he spills into you, holding you so tight it’s almost bruising. His face is buried in your neck, breath ragged, heartbeat thundering against your chest like it’s trying to match yours.
Like maybe, for a moment, they’re the same.
The aftermath.
He doesn’t move for a long time. Still buried inside you, still trembling- not from release, but from everything after.
His arms are locked around you, your chests pressed together, heartbeats still thundering in unison. You feel the sweat cooling on his back, his breath uneven against your neck. But it’s not the aftermath of sex that makes him shake.
It’s you.
The fact that he finally has you and the sick, gut-deep fear that he might still lose you.
His hand slides up your spine slowly, until it cups the back of your head. He kisses your hair. Your temple. The curve of your jaw.
“You okay?”
His voice is hoarse- too soft for a man like him and yet it holds the weight of a warning. Like he’s asking if you regret it. If he should start bracing for impact.
You nod, whispering his name into his chest.
His jaw tightens, and you feel it- the wildness under the surface, the animal in him that’s never known gentleness without loss. He kisses you- slow at first, then harder, like he needs to claim the truth on your lips.
“You’re mine now,” he mutters, almost to himself. His hand slides down to your thigh, gripping it, pressing you closer, even though you’re already one body.
“You got no idea what that means, do you?” he murmurs against your mouth. “No fuckin’ clue what I’d do for you.”
You look at him -really look- and suddenly you do.
Because this isn’t about sex. It’s about Joel and how, for once in his life, he wants something enough to stay. To fight. To keep.
He brushes his nose against yours. A soft, strange thing from such a hard man.
“You’re not just mine,” he says, barely audible. “I’m yours too, if you still want me.”
He knows he’s done for. He can’t go back- not after this.
The choice is yours now.
It always was. It always will be.
You lift your head, eyes glassy, lips trembling.
“I always did.”
“Then I got you. I swear to God, I got you.”
And for the first time, you believe it.

Your centaurs differ pretty wildly from the base DnD centaurs, but what I am curious about is old people. DnD centaurs travel in migrations that last generations and just leave the old or infirm behind to keep on (at which point they become Chiron types); how do your centaurs handle the elderly?
I actually had no idea that DnD centaurs did that, kinda cool, kinda wild cultural practice?? While I have always encouraged folks to use my workarounds and patches for centaurs in their TTRPG games, I actually have very little idea of what ideas are already in any of the systems that do actually include centaurs! my advice on centaurs is usually much more niche daily life stuff than most game developers and story writers tend to delve into.
For my centaurs the elderly are treated much like any human elder, what do you do with them? You cherish them!! Particularly with my centaurs, who across all their cultures depend a lot on family and group dynamics to compensate for the challenges that come with having a horse body. So elders would be an important font of knowledge and cultural memory! Now MY centaurs in particular tend to be pre-history to medieval style cultures, with access to higher medicines pretty much limited to the Port city of the Merchant's culture so living to a super advanced age would be fairly rare, but that would just make those who DO get to that age generally more important and respected (at least according to Nana)

As mobility issues arise with advanced age, there's lots of options to keep Nana mobile and healthy, from supportive corsets and harnesses to support the back to senior comfort hoof trims and special shoes- but most end up opting for being (literally) carted around in small wagons by the grandkids. Or the more independent minded seniors may drive their own carts with pet ponies and donkeys (or even goats!)

Of course wheelchairs are also an excellent choice to help with mobility at any age!
And even in my semi-nomadic Rider culture, elders are simply packed up with the yurts and tents and travel in the carts that way. No reason to leave them behind when you have stuff to be carrying anyway in my opinion!
#centaurs#asked and answered#worldbuilding#elder care#in which as usual I yap too much#new doodles!#because i couldn't resist the temptation#to draw some gummy lil old centaurs#cherish your elders people!!#i think the reason i get so into worldbuilding for centaurs#is because so many other systems#just treat them as smart monsters#or just Chiron#but a herd of him#more fun to me to explore a person#with the power and size of a horse#and how they navigate that

Hey, i love your stories, can you do how the warlords (specifically Mihawk, Jinbei, and Crocodile) would react to finding out the reader is a former slave, but the reader is also a warlord themself, it can be platonic or romantic, I don't mind either way.
•••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
Warlords; Involved With A Warlord That’s A Former Slave
•••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
A/N: established romantic relationship (well as romantic as u can get with some of these guys..) Takes place before the Warlord system was abolished. I had a hard time writing this without it sounding too ooc so if u have a different thought abt how some of these warlords would react pls comment and lemme know! I was gonna include Blackbeard but lowkey idek how he’s react I don’t understand him that well and I have free will to not write abt that lil hoe
•••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
Dracule Mihawk: Mihawk was approached by you initially before the two of you became involved with each other. Your abilities and admirable Haki gained you some respect from Mihawk. Particularly your fighting style was something that stood out to him, and he was interested to understand your potential more throughly.
Mihawk’s stoicism and general lack of public presence fit your needs well. Due to Mihawk’s perceptive nature, I’d wager he had suspicions that something happened between you and the World Government because of your obvious aversion to them. Though, lots of people don’t like the World Government, especially pirates so I don’t see him bringing it up unless he was too curious.
Assuming you keep the slave branding covered, Mihawk would only ever see it if you willingly present it to him. I don’t really think that the dynamic between you two will change once he knows. He would probably be more accommodating for you at Muggy Kingdom and understands your character better than he did previously. He himself has his own issues with the World Government and for his partner to be a victim of the conditions that they set up definitely increases his loathing of the world government.
•••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
Bartholomew Kuma: (small disclaimer I’m not too familiar with Kuma’s character either..) Kuma was probably hesitant to become involved with you due to his own enslavement to the World Government both previously and in terms of being a pacifista cyborg as well as being a revolutionary member. Though through small, private interactions over the course of numerous years the two of you had developed a bond.
Once Kuma put his trust in you and knew that while you were a Warlord and pirate; you were also a rare, good person, he was willing to risk confiding in you. He didn’t tell you everything, just a little bit about himself so you were aware of his mixed life. It prompted you to reveal your own checkered past and sorta showed him how similar people become after being affected by the World Government.
You had told him about your previous status as a slave. I feel like Kuma would be disheartened to hear about another’s enslavement, but he would also be able to empathize with you more than most anyone else in the world (as well as he can for a cyborg..) At most I feel like he can only offer you words and wouldn’t be able to take any action for you. Though his tender empathy, even at a distance, is comforting to you.
•••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
Donxuiquote Doflamingo: (literally the worst reaction you could ever hope for. I’m sorry but to me I feel like telling him this is the equivalent to saying that you have a D middle initial in your name. He WILL tweak I promise)
Your relationship with Doflamingo is akin to a give and take rather than an actual companionship. Though there might be what he thinks is love present on his side, it only ever harms you and even others at times. His love is more reflective of a child roughly playing with his favorite toy no matter how tattered it gets. You’re his favorite yes, but for how long? When will he notice the cracks in your paint coating? Or the chipped pieces of your frame?
He was attracted to your abilities and wanted to form an alliance. This alliance did benefit your crew, and granted you more political influence in the world. (Though, I feel like Doflamingo would try to make it physical between the two of you.)
Doflamingo figuring out that you were a former slave wasn’t intended by you. You had wanted to keep that a secret from him as long as you could. You didn’t know how he would react, but you didn’t think it would be good. And it wasn’t good, when he saw the burn seared into your back. The whole world stopped for a moment, nothing heard except your shaky breaths. I feel like this would go either two ways.
Doflamingo would be disgusted. He would feel cheated. How dare you be branded by something other than him, is what he would ask himself. He used to own slaves. He technically still does with his citizens of Dressrosa. He knows their lack of worth, their use to him and his mind would clash that version of inferiority with you instantly. To him, you were less than before but now you’re just a fake pretending to be human and pretending to be stronger than you really are. I feel like his reaction would be violent towards you and he would call off the progression of your alliance immediately.
The other way I see it going (and it’s kinda sick in my mind) is that Doflamingo would feel a new type of ownership over you. He used to authorize people to get that branding on your back. He’d feel like you were reminiscent of his past and his former birth right. I feel like he might try to coax you into becoming a slave for him under the pretense of sympathy and understanding. This would be him playing the long game, trying to break you down enough mentally for you to be dependent on him and he would be able to use you however he wanted. He would also use this information against you too, threatening to reveal it to the public or the government officials. Even worse, the celestial dragons so they could come and take you back.
Disgusting bird this one is
•••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
Hancock Boa: (lowkey I feel like she’s incapable of falling for someone other than Luffy presently but we can ignore that) Boa would only ever try to pursuit a relationship if you had treated her the same way Luffy treated her. If you had shown her a lack of lust and instead genuine affection or kindness, she would be down so bad.
One big milestone in the development of your relationship with Boa was her revealing her own personal enslavement. She told you in desperation of a connection of trust and to try to prove that she wasn’t worthy of you. She was utterly shocked when you turned around and bared your own identical marking to her.
It would cause the two of you to have an intimate bond beyond anything sexual. You validated her and her sisters’ worth and existence. You also showed her that the mark didn’t have to be something to fear and that she could rely on you. I think she would fall in love with you like how she did with Luffy and would defy the World Government not just for herself and her empire anymore, but for you as well.
•••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
Jimbei: I feel like Jimbei would pursue someone with a clear moral scale and have ideals that align with him. (Though he’d probably prefer fishmen so like if you’re human he might not be looking at you like that..) You were an honorable pirate and someone that Jimbei was able to communicate with beyond Warlord meetings. The Sun Pirates would most likely notice the chances of an alliance forming between them and your crew given the praises Jimbei has given you.
It was on an island of neutral ground for the two of you, enjoying the isolation and conversing with one another when it happened. You told Jimbei of your previous enslavement and showed him your branding. It wasn’t really prompted, maybe you wished for Jimbei to talk of the important history of the Sun Pirates and Fisher Tiger. The slavery of fishmen was woven between the threads of the creation of the Sun Pirates. It was a safe space, Jimbei makes you feel safe, so once Jimbei was done talking, you opened up.
Jimbei would feel sympathy for your mark and your story. But he’s also someone who would be quick to acknowledge your strength to overcome it and persevere to the status of Warlord of your own pirate crew. Jimbei ran a hand over the mark softly before thinking of something. He offered to give you the Sun Pirates’ marking over it.
•••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
Trafalgar Law: Law wouldn’t be looking for a relationship until possibly after he is able to complete his goal of avenging Corazon by defeating Doflamingo. Plus you were a warlord with your own crew, so the trust he gave you was scarce if he gave you any at all.
Though, if he did align with your pirate crew and you helped him in his goal he’d have a considerable amount of trust and loyalty towards you for the duration of the alliance. Through this, the two of you gradually became a little closer to each other, divulging in stories of the past and history in the small free time you had. Though you weren’t together and neither of you would mention the kindles of what could perhaps be something more between the two of you.
One late night, you let it slip that you were a former slave. Law paused momentarily before acting unaffected. A silence fell over you two for a couple moments before he mentioned that you were free now. To which you responded with a smile. It wasn’t brought up again, and your alliance ended after the events of Dressrosa.
•••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
Gecko Moria: (guys I don’t like him) Hm. I feel like he would approach you first. Especially in his youth because he was more of a confident pirate before he faced off with Kaido. He had taken a liking to your appearance and your abilities were well suited for tasks in his opinion. I feel like he would propose an alliance with an ultimate goal of obtaining your power for his motives.
I thinks relationship with him would be another one based on mutual contentment, you scratch his big back, he scratches yours. Though, over time I think he would become loyal to you and care for you of his own will, not for the sake of the alliance.
He found out about your enslavement through one of his nosy underlings, maybe Perona. It would reason that you and her were at least acquaintances. I don’t think this would change much for Moria, though he might try to express sympathy for you. Perhaps he might bring it up in hopes you talk about your past to him so he can know more about you and what you’ve endured. He is caring to those who he considers family, and he would be willing to consider you that.
•••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
Crocodile: Crocodile was most likely approached by you. Though being the business man that he is, the only form of entanglement he would engage in would be through a mutual alliance of some sort.
Time may change the context of your alliance with him, and your relationship could grow into something that loosely resembles a carrying couple. Yet while Crocodile has his own secrets you aren’t privy to, he doesn’t enjoy you hiding ones from him, especially if it affects business.
You told him you would tell him a secret if he told you what happened to his hand. It was the amount of whiskey you had earlier in the evening talking, but Crocodile always became rather amused with your drunken ramblings. He made you go first.
He was rather surprised when you told him that you used to be a slave. You had covered your past so well. You were always dressed luxuriously, you surrounded yourself and your crew with powerful people, and you had this air of unassailable confidence that he always wanted to control. It just didn’t fit you, being a slave. When he asked about the marking, you replied that you got surgery to remove it and replace the skin graft of the area it was covering. He could tell you hated that part of your past, and hated the World Government and Celestial Dragons even more. You told him you would wring his neck if he publicized it. Puffing his cigar in your face, he mused before taking a deep sigh and told you about the story of his hand.

GOOD SIBLING, BAD SIBLING: THE FIRE SIBLINGS VS. STARFIRE AND BLACKFIRE
What could two siblings born in a royal family where one is scapegoated and the other treated like a golden child possibly have in common? More than you think.
This post is making the rounds again and I thought it would be fun to make a longer post going into depth why I think Starfire and Blackfire avert the common trope of good sibling bad sibling, by comparing it to something that fails to avoid that trope. If you like doomed siblings or bad victims then click the readmore.
Good Sibling, Bad Sibling
To start off with I'm going to explain what I mean when I use the words Good Sibling, Bad Sibling. It's a trope that's an extention of what I call Good Victim, Bad Victim. It's when a story compares two victims of abuse, and one victim is a more acceptable victim while the other is a bad victim because they're not perfect suffering Cinderellas.
Victims of course still have agency in their responses, they're still culpable if their actions go on to hurt someone, they don't have a right to hurt others, but I think it's also true most people are quick to judge victims for not being strong enough to endure abuse when they haven't been in the same situation.
It's easy from an outsider's perspective to be "I wouldn't do that". It comes from a pretty shallow view that villainizes abusers and renders them as inhuman monsters when the truth is all abusers are still humans and anyone can fall into patterns of abuse whether they mean to or not.
One reason I hate this trope besides like, the fact characters that aren't perfect victims are often considered "too far gone" and murdered by the narrative, it's also just really shallow. In the end it usually comes down to the victim getting love and support healing and the victim who didn't have support getting worse. Which is like, a no duh of a situation. A person without friends or a support system or love in their life tends to not get better? Who woulda guessed.
Good Sibling, Bad Sibling shows up when two siblings are raised under the same house, sometimes even in the same abusive circumstances and one is a hero and the other is a villain. Another version of this tropes is the fact that if there are twins one of them is usually going to be a good twin and the other is an evil twin.
I can understand where this trope comes from because like siblings are a naturally close relationship, so it makes it a deeply personal conflict when a character's sibling turns against them. I don't even think it's a necessarily bad trope, if both characters are humanized equally which almost never happens.
Examples of this trope: Gammorra and Nebula, Mai and Maki, Shoto and Toya, Dick Grayson and Jason Todd, Itachi and Sasuke.
And of course, Starfire and Blackfire, and Zuko and Azula.
My goal is to show by breaking the source material, New Teen Titans and the Avatar Cartoon down the former averts the trope and the latter plays it straight.
The Golden Child and the Scapegoat
A common trope used in dysfuctional families is dividing children between a golden child, and a scapegoat. The parent often projects all of their positive qualities on a golden child, along with high expectations. While the Scapegoat has all their negative qualities projected on them, and is often blamed unfairly for the dysfunction in the house. They are scapegoated so to speak, and constantly the victim of things like shifting goalposts.
It's like a more extreme version of playing favorites with an extra dollop of abuse on top. Also to be clear, this is an abusive dynamic where both sides are abused. They're not being seen as parents by their parents, and they are essentially being pitted against each other. There are plenty of parents who will be just as harsh on their perceived favorite. Being the golden child doesn't really safeguard you from abuse, even if it seems to be the more favorable position to be in.
Also in general when discussing abuse, arguing over who has it worse is kind of a pointless argument.
Also sometimes the playing favorites is intentional. By splitting up siblings and putting them against each other, the parent gets more control over each of them like a divide and conquer strategy. After all an abusers primary objective is to maintain control over someone by patterns of abusive behavior meant to wear down their sense of resistance.
With that being established, comparing the two royal families is interesting because the "hero" sibling is the golden child in one version, and the "villain" sibling is the scapegoat in another. If anything this proves that both forms of abuse can be the reason for a villain's tragic backstory.
STARFIRE AND AZULA THE PERFECT PRINCESS
Starfire might appear at first to be the total opposite of Azula. One of them is a hero who's like entire character is built around her overflowing emotions and the love she feels for people. While Azula is cold, calculating, and often treats her own friends like pawns instead of people. Starfire also doesn't repeat the cycle of abuse, while Azula does.
If you look past that there's a lot of comparisons to draw between the two of them. They are both raised in warrior, war-like cultures. The Tamaraneans may be all about that peace and love but like, an early conflict with Starfire's is that because she was raised on a planet as a warrior she doesn't understand why other heroes have a no-kill rule.
Azula is also a product of her culture. To begin with she's raised as a child soldier, of a nationalist and imperialist nation who are actively colonizing half the war. Azula also contributes significantly to the war effort, and never shows any doubt to the values of her culture.
This is another way in which they differ, Azula is the primary antagonist and negative foil to Zuko, and Blackfire is the primary antagonist and negative foil to Starfire.
As a brief summary of their early characters, Azula is princess of the fire nation which went to war with the world. She's the daughter of the Fire Nation's absolute ruler. She's however, the second born and not ever expected to inherit the throne. She is introduced in season one when Zuko vents to an unconscious Aang about how everything has always been easy for his sister. In Season two she becomes the main antagonist, first tasked with retrieving her brother, and then decides to try to capture the avatar on her own. I'd also be remiss to mention that Azula is the most personal antagonist the heroes face, because Ozai is more of a final boss.
Starfire is an alien that was sold by her sister into slavery essentially (Blackfire is not a good person). She escaped to earth and became a member of the Teen Titans where she found a new family and worked as a hero. She's basically an immigrant to earth and there's a lot of culture shock. Starfire eventually returns home to her planet when it's in danger, and faces her sister as an antagonist.
While both basically have the tentative position of the favorite, while their sibling is demonized, it's made clear to them that they're not actually "safe" with their parents. Both sets of parents are awful and the origin of all abuse within the household. These characters also receive a slap in the face after being in denial for a long time that these parents will even mistreat their "favorite" child and treat them like an object.
Though, I would argue that Starfire is more in denial about her parent's abuse and will still see them as loving parents, while Azula is aware that her father could turn on her and strives for perfection to keep herself "safe".
Note Starfire is still saying this stuff after her parent's sold her into a political marriage.
Ozai: My decision is final. Azula: You ... you can't treat me like this! You can't treat me like Zuko! Ozai: Azula, silence yourself. Azula: But it was my idea to burn everything to the ground! I deserve to be by your side!
I've seen some people's unsympathetic readings of this line that Azula throws Zuko under the bus, but like... Azula doesn't want to be abused like her brother. What a monster. Let's see how you react when the father you thought was safe turns on you, I think most people would say or do anything not to get hurt.
I don't want to sound too critical of Starfire because she has her reasons (Blackfire abused her severely) but both Starfire and Azula seem to justify their parent's abuse to themselves by saying Blackfire or Zuko did something to cause the abuse. Sliding the blame from the abuser to the abuse victim. They participate in the parent's scapegoating of the the least favorite child.
I'd like to point out though that the ultimate cause of the situation is the parents themselves. The abuse started when they are children, and expecting Starfire and Azula as children to like, go out of their way to protect their abused siblings is expecting a lot out of them.
Like Azula is afraid to lose her position as the favorite because Ozai has demonstrated before that he'll horribly mutilate his children. Who would have guessed. Blackfire severely abused Starfire in their childhood, so she sees Blackfire as her enemy and not her parents who would have guessed.
In general too, expecting Starfire and Azula to be perfect siblings in an abusive household, and always protect their siblings, is once again a lot to expect from literal children who don't have fully developed brains.
However, I would say in both cases, they both try harder to connect with their sibling. This is where I get angry anons in my inbox, yes I'm going to make the argument that Azula was a better sibling than Zuko was to her. No I also don't expect Zuko to be a perfect big brother when actively being abused by Ozai. No I don't think Zuko owes Azula anything because she too prioritized her own well being over him that's what abuse victims do.
I'm just making the argument with in text examples that Azula does more things to help Zuko, and Starfire actively tried to befriend Blackfire before the sibling abuse started. In fact I think that's what makes both relationships incredibly tragic. It's not really two siblings who love each other on opposite sides of a conflict. It's that Blackfire and Zuko can't see past their own abuse, and can't love their siblings.
Anyway onto the examples. The big one is that Azula invited Zuko back after Ba Sing Se, seemed genuine about wanting to help resstore his honor. This is also a sacrifice on her part, because as I said even when he was banished Zuko didn't lose the title of crown prince. His status as the heir was never in question and like, letting Zuko stay a prisoner in Ba Sing Se would have ensured his inheritance would fall to her.
Once again I'm not blaming Zuko for priotizing himself, but I also think it's unfair to critcize Azula for taking care of herself and not sticking her neck out for Zuko when they were both being abused. Wow why are people extra harsh on Azula and extra forgiving on Zuko. It's almost like women are always expected to be perfect nurturers, and when they're not allowed to be complex human beings with flaws.
My old enemy the Madonna Whore complex you strike again!
Why don't you let him decide, Uncle? [To Zuko.] I need you, Zuko. I've plotted every move of this day, [Makes a fist.] this glorious day in Fire Nation history, and the only way we win is together. At the end of this day, you will have your honor back. You will have Father's love. You will have everything you want.
Now common criticisms people use to argue that Azula has good intentions.
1) Azula needed Zuko to turn the tides in battle. While Azula was kind of in a corner in the fight where Zuko turned she also had Mai and Ty Lee and the entire Dai Li on her side so I don't think she'd really assume she needed Zuko to defeat the avatar. Also she starts getting backed into a corner long after she made the offer to Zuko so she had no way of knowing that ahead of time. Also, also, she might have just been backed into a corner for the sake of drama, making it more impactful when Zuko shows up and turns the tide.
2) Azula somehow knew she might not kill the avatar and needed Zuko to take the fall. This one doesn't make sense because Azula doesn't have any idea that Aang didn't die, until Zuko hints at it. After that point, Zuko kept it a secret from her and refused to tell her even though the truth being revealed would impact both of them. Like for Azula to know ahead of time she'd fail to kill the avatar when she made her offer to Zuko, and then bring him back to take the fall would require some 4d chess on her end.
Two more examples are Azula goes out of her way to warn Zuko that he might get in trouble for visint Iroh so often. On the Beach she's the one who comforts him and retrieves him from their old vacation house. When they're in front of the fire and Zuko is troubled she asks him what's wrong and even asks if she's the one at fault. Whereas Zuko mocks her for not having problems when Azula confesses her mother thought she was a monster he doesn't say anything in response.
In Tales of the New Teen Titans we get a closer look at Starfire and Blackfire's childhood, and we're shown Starfire tried hard at first to get along with her sister. Starfire also, in spite of being a victim of Blackfire's abuse went out of her way to save her life twice.
Something Blackfire responded with by immediately trying to kill her. Blackfire, you are a piece of work. In both cases, I'd argue Starfire and Azula try at least to have a positive relationship with their siblings. Attempts that are almost completely one-sided. I don't want to demonize Zuko too much though, because as I said when you're actively being abused it's number one easy to see the other sibling as being better off, and only natural you would prioritize yourself.
Also, Blackfire was an adult and continued the abuse later on in life when she had more agency, whereas Zuko for most of the tv show was a minor and you shouldn't hold minors to adult standards. If I judge characters for having an imperfect reaction to abuse, or not being perfect siblings I can no longer call myself a bad victim enjoyer.
Both Starefire and Azula as I said, participate in the scapegoating. In both cases it's out of a desire to maintain their spot as the golden child, because they want to assume they're safe.
Starfire actively defends her aprents all the time, while insisting that Blackfire was evil to begin with. Which is understandable again because Blackfire's abuse is just so much worse than anything Azula does to Zuko. It's expecting a little too much for Starfire to see the humanity in her abuser when she's a lifelong victim.
Like little blackfire things: Killing her sister's pet.
Phsyical abuse, actively trying to kill her even before they were on opposite sides of a war.
Selling her into Slavery (where Starfire was sexually abused).
It's extra tragic because both are essentially blaming the other for their parent's abuse. Blackfire takes out her pain on Starfire as revenge for her parent's favoritism, even though it's not her fault. Starfire demonizes Blackfire because she refuses to confront the fact that her parent's are abusive.
This is behavior Azula engages in as well. If you read into her actions, you can tell she blames Zuko for his abuse, you can't treat me like Zuko, while also believing that if she can just make Zuko act more like a prince he won't provoke his father anymore. Once again, sliding the blame on the abused rather than the abuser makes Azula feel more safe, because she also believes if she's perfect Ozai will leave her alone.
Zuko and Blackfire: The Banished Prince and the DIsowned Princess
This is another pair of seeming opposites. Blackfire is essentially Starfire's most personal arch enemy, occupying the same spot as Azula. Zuko is a villain for awhile, but honestly he's bad at it, and until the end of Season 1 he's so ineffectual he's more comic relief. Blackfire like Azula is insanely competent and causes a lot of genuine harm to the protagonists, and is far far worse than Zuko or even Azula obviously. I mean I've already listed some of the things she did above, but she also let her planet be conquered by aliens, orchestrated not one but two cues, and tried to have her parents blown up on live television.
However, both characters are effectively disowned and banished from their country for their inability to fit in. Both are banished and excessively punished.
Blackfire is the first born princess of Tamaran and she should have been heir to her family, but she was stripped of her inheritance because she was born disabled. Every Tamaranean can fly except her because of a sickness that nearly killed her when she was younger.
That's right everyone, the disabled representation you've been waiting for the sibling abuser and war-mongerer.
I think Blackfire's abuse covers a common way parent's treat their disabled children, where they don't want to make accomodations and make it clear they' don't want to take care of a disabled child and spend all their attention on their abled children instead. This trope is often called "Better dead than disabled."
Also I'd be remiss to point out that Tamaraneas have access to hover technology so Blackfire's disability doesn't inhibit her in any way. Like damn, parents will do anything but try to accomondate their disabled child.
Zuko is punished needlessly for a small offense of speaking out of turn in a meeting for not wanting to sacrifice young soldiers, and then refusing to fight back against his father in an angi kai. At which point he's banished and sent on a fool's errand of hunting the avatar.
Blackfire's reason for being banished is uhhh, because she tried to kill her sister in combat training, but also she was stripped of her inheritance just before being born disabled. She awas punished for things she couldn't control before she did anything wrong.
Both siblings also try to make up for their trauma and perceived deficiencies by constantly projecting violence. Blackfire is like, obsesed with war, Zuko's definition of honor is more focused around glory gained by combat more particularly killing the avatar in the first season. Both of them actively participated in colonization, Blackfire helped colonize her home planet, Zuko burned Kyoshi village and helped Azula with Ba Sing Se. Blackfire brought back an army to colonize her home planet, then attempts a military coup of a rather peaceful reign her parents secured not once but twice.
Both are blamed for their parent's abuse, it's Blackfire's fault because she was a violent and unlikable child she made it impossible to love her. It's Zuko's fault, he just didn't try hard enough to please his father and fit in as a prince.
While I may sound overly critical of Avatar's writing I do like how they gave Zukio a lot of chances to make mistakes and screw up, and instead of condemning him or dismissing him as too far gone they kept reinforcing that he always had a chance to better himself.
Both characters are really jealous and tend to blame the other sibling who's treated as the favorite for their abuse.
Zuko: "You're like my sister. Everything always came easy to her. She is a firebending prodigy and everyone adores her. My father says she was born lucky. He says I was lucky to be born... I don't need luck though - I don't want it. I've always had to struggle and fight and that's made me strong. It's made me who I am".
Though to give credit to Blackfire, while as a child she blamed Starfire for everything and used her as a punching bag, as an adult she seems to understand that the cause of their conflict was their parents and in fact tries to explain this to Starfire multiple times. So she's matured enough to see that Starfire is ultimately a victim too.
As I said too, Zuko is a child, he's also like still actively being victimized by Ozai while at the same time under the notion that if he does the right thing he can earn Ozai's love for 3/4ths of the show it's easy to understand why he'd blame Azula for his position as the scapegoat instead of Ozai.
Zuko never attempts to convince Azula to change sides with him, or considers that an option. When Azula is like, falling through the air about to die he doesn't tell his friends piloting the bison to try to save her. His stated goal when fighting Azula in the fignal agni kai is to put her in her place. That's literally a line he says.
Zuko, the empath when noticing she's having a total mental breakdown says "She's kind of off" and decides to take advantage of that to win the fight. When Azula finally breaks down and is screaming and crying, he just kind of sits there looking bored.
I'm not arguing that Zuko owes her anything that's a personal opinion, just that it's inconsistent with Zuko's writing. Zuko is presented to us as a character revolving around redemption, that learns that love and forgiveness are key to growth and healing and then just... doesn't apply those same lessons he learned to his sister.
That same kind of hypocrisy is present in Starfire, but it's like intentional. Starfire's inability to empathize with her sister, when her entire character revolves around empathy and love shows just how damaged her relationship with her sister is. Even then Starfire like, saves her life twice and was never able to kill her. With far more reason to not empathize with her sister, while blatantly hating her, Starfire still has that tiny bit of empathy for her. It's also like, Tamaraneans are a violent warrior people, and they're also extremely emotional and full of love, Starfire embodies both sides of that.
It's not just Blackfire either, it takes Starfire a long time to learn that she can't just kill criminals (again understandable, a cultural thing, in fact people like Dick are a little bit too harsh on her for this instead of trying to explain and understand where she's coming from). It is consistent with Starfire's writing, she is openly loving, but she's not the team mom that's Donna.
Zuko like, not even trying to redeem Azula or just like, not really caring is inconsistent with the writing that's trying to tell us that deep down Zuko is a caring person that is going to help heal the fire nation by showing them a better path forward. Zuko's double standards towards his sister, and his unfairly blaming her for his father's abuse is not written as a flaw. Blackfire unfairy blaming Starfire for her parent's abuse is a flaw. Blackfire's abuse of Starfire is her own fault, which is something she continues to do well into adulthood.
Which is why it's kind of all the more baffling, that Blackfire is way worse, is humanized a lot more by her narrative than Azula is. Now we reach the final part.
The Final Agni Kai
Now to trash on everyone's favorite scene that I absolutely despise as the end to Zuko and Azula's arc, while praising what is my favorite arc in the whole New Teen Titans manga. In the series finale of Avatar, Zuko after reuniting with Iroh is tasked with challenging Azula for the throne in the Agni Kai. They fight, and Zuko comes out on top.
In what is essentially the final fight between Starfire and Blackfire, Starfire is alerted by her brother that things are going down on her planet. She leaves earth with the Teen Titans and returns to her planet for a second time. Where she learns that she is being sold by her parents into an arranged marriage, as a part of a peace agreement with the invading force of her planet. Something that Starfire does not take well too, because she's currently in love with her longtime boyfriend Dick Grayson.
I'm going to skip over the Soap opera that is Starfire and Dick, because it's soon revealed that Blackfire too has returned in order to orchestrate a coup to overthrow her parents once more.
In the end Blackfire reveals her plan that she's set up an ion bomb to hold the whole planet hostage unless her parents abdicate and declare her ruler. At which point, Blackfire succeeds.
Both plots involve the scapegoat finally reclaiming their heritage and beating their sibling for the first time, one is the hero, the other is the villain... or are they?
There's a reason I love one arc and hate the other. It's that Blackfire is eventually allowed to be her own seperate character from Starfire, whereas Azula is ultimately just a plot object to strengthen Zuko's arc. This is shown in just, the amount of focus Zuko and his inner world are compared to Azula, how he has one of the most lovingly tailored redemption arcs shown throughout the entire show whereas Azula's mental breakdown is rushed through the entire end.
However, to further illustrate this let me show how well the New Teen Titans humanizes Koriand'r. To begin with, we see their childhood from both perspectives, to show both are biased narrators. Starfire represents her sister as being born evil, while Blackfire believes Starfire being the favorite took all her parent's love away from her.
Blackfire also gets, sympathetic motivations that demonstrate she's also capable of love and craves it deep down but suppresses it because she believes she needs to be a weapon of war. Something that is directly stated by the comics and only like implied by offhand by the avatar show.
In fact Blackfire gets to star in her own comic which tells a story where she is temporarily blinded after her first defeat to Starfire. After feeling helpess she feels like she's lost the will to fight, the will to kill, the will to rule which is how she defines herself.
Blackfire survives with one of her soldiers who doesn't abandon her, and helps teach with her rehabilitation teaching her how to fight while blind. Their relationship grows so close that Dorion feels like the first person that ever took care of Blackfire, and she breaks down and admits how much she wants to be loved. She almost seems willing to give up her conquest.
However, Blackfire misses out on the chance to be loved because her fanatically devoted soldier tricks her into killing him in order to show her that she still has the edge to kill.
This also clues us into more complex motivations for Blackfire. She is actively a patriot who believes that her father's rule is weak (she turns out to be right) and believes that conquering her planet is in effect her way of saving it. She has to put on this persona because the cause is more important than anything in her life, even love.
(This also contrasts Starfire who has no interest in being a ruler and runs away to live on earth with her love).
Also I'd be remiss to mention at the end of this particular arc Starfire doesn't forgive her sister or reconcile with her. I've never believed she owed her that. The arc just shows that Blackfire a human being (or a tamaranean I guess) who is capable of both good and evil. That her motivations are more complex than being a power hungry usurper and she actually can have good intentions. She's more of an example of the 'Well-intentioned Extremist" trope.
It's the complete opposite of Azula who's reduced to the mad queen stereotype in the end. Which is another knock against Avatar, Blackfire might not be the best disabled representation in the world but as I said parent's only treating their disabled child as a burden and that disabled child watching their parents take care of and love their abled children is a real thing that happens all the time. The comic also goes to show how competent Blackfire is in sipte of her disability.
Whereas, I can't imagine what it feels like to see yourself in Azula's mental breakdown, only to watch her last moment on the show have her offered no support, and not even a single sign that she might recover one day. Blackfire's motivations are tied to her abuse, but she's not demonized for being disabled in fact she's fantastically competent. Azula's like, readuced to an inhuman, ugly monster, and her mental illness takes all of her agency away and once again we're shown no hope for recovery.
Azula is reduced to a screaming incoherent mess. She has basically no agency in the end. Not only does Blackfire have agency, but like she has acutal points to make? The story values her point of view and gives credence to it? Myand'r is a weak ruler. She's not wrong when she says that their parents are the source of abuse for both of them. In fact, the narrative directly states the ones who started the abuse are their parents while it only implies it again with Azula and Zuko. Maybe the reason so many people deny that Azula is an abuse victim is because we only see the abuse from Zuko's perspective not Azula's. Whereas we get both conflicting accounts of Blackfire and Starfire's childhood and the narrative trusts us to judge things with nuance rather than needing it fed to us.
The planet has been invaded twice now. She's also, like, more popular with her father's weak rule?
Also like the story shows us why Blackfire will make a better ruler than Starfire. The narrative doesn't really illustrate how Zuko will be a better ruler, it just follows the "good king" trope.
I mean it's a fun little parallel that both Zuko and Blackfire are both an exiled prince and princess respectively, who return home to take back their throne. On one hand though, it feels like Zuko does it out of like, wanting to reclaim his birthright, or his feeling that the throne is his destiny. That's part of Blackfire's motivation too, but as I said, Zuko never states onscreen how he plans to improve the fire nation, Blackfire's got like actual policies.
Which is where the difference ultimately lies, Blackfire and Starfire are ultimately characterized as two sides of the same coin who need to come together to save the planet. Killing blackfire or putting her down won't fix shit or end the cycle of abuse on Tamaran. Blackfire and Starfire are much like Tamaran defined by love and war, and there's love and war in Starfire, and love and war in Blackfire and they both need to find a balance between the two.
This is in contrast to Zuko and Azula who's final conflict is just putting Azula down like a mad dog, quite literally. Blackfire is allowed to be human, with good and bad traits, and like actual points to make whereas Zuko's narrative only cares about Zuko's thoughts, and in general instead of coming together the narrative seems to think the only way that Zuko can triumph is if Azula is dragged down into the mud.
Blackfire is a character, and Azula is ultimately just a plot obstacle.
So that's my long ramble on a sibling relationship I absolutely love, and a sibling relationship I can't love no matter how much I like Zuko and Azula individually.

!!! System! Shen Yuan AU !!!
Airplane wasn’t changing things, and no matter what tasks the system tried to put forward the only difference in the world was that the An Ding Peak Lord was more stressed and overworked
So a new variable was needed, and since the system tasks have been completed perfectly chances are the problem is in the system… so the solution is to shove the work to someone sentient who would be invested into changing the story!!
So yeah airplane gets a notification that the system is being upgraded and suddenly his terrible system has a personality
System Shen yuan would consume (?)all the information the original system had and before going online would have created an entire tasks tab that include daily/weekly/monthly/yearly/unlimites tasks plus main tasks and as soon as he was online he would great airplane with a passive aggressive message and send him to work
Shen yuan would be much more generous with points but he hates the shop system, the dumb things that can be bought there will them have descriptions like “this scenario pusher will make clothes tear like in a bad horny donghua” being 100% ready to turn it into sqh himself if he dared to be a scum and use it on some unsuspecting woman
The first time sqh failed a s!sy task he was full of dread, punishments are very trauma inducing after all, but them the worst punishment sy can bare to deal is making him 1st pov some of binghe’s more tame suffering, like hunger, bullying and the tea spill first meeting… which could have been bad if the senses and feelings where in sync but it was all toned down to zero… SQH them understands the new system as some kind of softie tsundere lmao
S!sy would feel bad about the harsh punishment and send some easy task with a high reward the next day….. “there needs to be a carrot, not only a stick!” (I do love me a dumbass shen yuan)
They of course would banter and end up caring about each other, everytime sqh says/does something sy thinks is stupid he’ll give tasks like “read 10 books about x and write a 10k words essay about x” or when he is tossed around in a mission or by mbj he’s send missions for Jim’s to get stronger…
By the second month there’ll be missions like “eat 3 times a day”, unfortunately for shen yuan sqh already trusts him and feels safe enough to bend the tasks, so not only he will half-ass boring tasks to get the hide of y magical beast and making a coat (sending liu qingge to do it, mostly) which sy approves for being smart BUT he would also eat like melon seeds instead of stopping to eat full meals
Shang Qinghua will end up having to scroll detailed 1k worded self-care tasks…
This au would be focused mostly in cumplane dynamics yes but I thinks it would be really hilarious if sy started to make sqh do tasks that would take him close to xxx because sy wants to see them (choose the SQH x SY x ??? of your preference)
Of course s!sy would be making his mental gymnastics and justifying his tasks as totally no homo “wdym i want to look to lqg’s pretty face? I just want you to be strong enough not to dumbly die!” “Yes you do have to ask for a book on monsters from Shen Qingqiu himself, he’s so greedy he must have hidden away the best one” “you get hurt so frequently, you simply must go to Mu Qingfan and get personal classes on first aid” “No, you can not send a disciple with a mensage to Yue Qingyuan, it’s important to communicate face to face with your sect leader in such matters” etc etc
#svsss#shang qinghua#shen yuan#cumplane#System! Shen Yuan AU#sy’s tasks making sqh wifebeam everyone and he has no idea but sqh thinks he’s pulling his leg#cucumber-bro I don’t want a harem plEASE#also bing bing having a crush in his shishu for all the things he did for him (?) and sy gushing about binghe to sqh and sqh standing there#‘I can’t believe you’re using your powers over me to pamper your blorbo’#also#I’m sure that I’m some point they would be able to give sy a body#the other unofficial harem members can’t even get upset a him#the wife beam is too good#they’re okay with sqh having a co-harem master#…. ALSO#regardless of the wife beam allegations sqh could and would seduce everyone fair and square !!!#he would doubt it tho. clearly those were sy actions#except he doesn’t take in consideration that he has been putting his own spin into the tasks since he got close to cucumber bro

Why Didn't We See Cait Tell Vi About Jinx?
**Spoilers For Arcane***
There has been a tremendous amount of conversation regarding Jinx's fate in the end of the show. I think by now, most of us seem to agree she is alive. There is a significant amount of evidence. But one of the conversations I have enjoyed reading different takes on, is did Caitlyn tell Vi her suspicions? should she? and why didn't we see one way or the other? This will be fairly short compared to my usual work, I just wanted to delve into these questions, offer my thoughts, and hopefully get some good discussion out of it!
THE EVIDENCE: (In no particular order)
The Shimmer streak right as the explosion occurs
I have seen some argue that it's simply the purple inside the bomb. This is possible of course but it seems extremely directed.
2. Caitlyn's investigations
When it is all said and done, we have a quiet moment with Caitlyn investigating the cooling/vent system of the tower where Jinx died, as well has holding the mostly intact head of her monkey bomb. the implication here is quite clear. But of course it is not definitive. They are only telling us she reason to be thinking about Jinx being alive.
3. Full Circle
The second shot is the last one of the show.. if we didn't have the first shot to fall back to it would feel quite random but if you think back to that, it seems quite clear what they are implying. Additionally although I don't have a good way to share it here, the score in this moment is variation on "Dear friend across the river" which we hear Powder singing to open the whole show.
4. Glitched The End
That is the very last shot we are given and the animation is very in line with the glitch style of Jinx we have come to know so well.
5. Arcane Afterglow For Act 3

________________________________________________
There are others for sure. I saw someone in the community post some pages from the artbook showing things like "i'm still here" I believe it was. And I know there have been other interviews and such. This is just what I am personally aware of. And while of course I am just a regular fan and I don't know any better than any of you, this is all enough for me to feel confidant saying she's alive. I am of a similar opinion to many I have seen. I do not think Caitlyn had told Vi by the end of what we saw, but I think it's because she herself is not 100% sure yet.
Why isn't she sure?
Well even using the evidence I listed, only one out of those five points is something Caitlyn would be aware of. Now I do think she is probably fairly confidant, as the implication of her investigating at all was very clear. But keeping in mind that she knows how badly Vi wanted to save Jinx, and the enormity of the guilt Vi must feel given that Jinx had to save her (Vi was legitimately having a dissociative episode born of her PTSD and there was nothing she could do. Don't start with me Anti-Vi'ers), I think Caitlyn would be very careful to not give Vi false hope.
Would Caitlyn Even Tell Vi and Risk Her leaving?
I think so. And my reasoning is that she has done it before. When she paved the way for Vi to free Jinx, there was every possibility the sisters would vanish into the night and Caitlyn would never see them again. With that in mind, and their dynamic in general with Caitlyn probably feeling she has a tremendous amount of trust to keep rebuilding between them, I seriously doubt she would risk hiding something so large from Vi if she felt confidant Jinx was alive. Jinx wanted Vi to live free of their past and find her happiness. I think Caitlyn would honor giving Vi the choice and hope for the best. Especially taking into account the whole dynamic around Caitlyn showing Vi how much she loves and respects not only her, but her heart. She cherishes the heart that drives Vi to protect those she loves. I don't see Caitlyn betraying that by trying to control her.
Is it better for Vi to know?
This one is tough. On the one hand, we have to factor all the things we already discussed in. We know Vi wanted them to be together. We know she is probably torturing herself over her sister's perceived death. But, we also have to consider the other side. Because by the end the Sisters are family again. So why would Jinx leave and not tell Vi the truth?:
Jinx herself will never know peace in Piltover or Zaun (at least as things are now). I'm not doing a whole thing here, but in Zaun they all want her to be their symbol. And in Piltover, regardless of her heroism or the reason she did what she did, there will always be stares and whispers for her crimes. Not to mention the whole process of whatever resolving the issues of her crimes would mean in the first place. It would not only be trouble for her, but probably for Vi and Caitlyn as well. She gave Vi permission to move forward with her life, and we saw Vi take it which is a reason to be hopeful. But if I were Jinx, and I had decided to leave, I would be very aware of the possibility that Vi would feel honor bound to leave the love she had found, and turn her back on the peace Jinx tried to convince her she deserves. Because while Vi is full to the brim with wonderful qualities, her journey to believing her own self-worth is still very new. And I think Jinx wisely would be worried Vi could not let her go alone. Just as Vi has to start finding herself free of their past, Jinx needs the same. It's not that she doesn't love Vi. I think she has made it EXTREMELY CLEAR that she does. But in terms of her mental state and her arc, I think she has resolved the conflict between the shattered ghost of Powder, and Silco's terrorist daughter. she IS JINX. She is no longer A JINX. And I think to find out what that means, she has to step away from the shadows of her past and start completely over. Just as Vi has to start finding out who she is without the crushing guilt and pain of their childhood. Listen yall, I know I can be quite harsh on Jinx especially because Vi is my favorite. But let me bring you back to something I first realized in my deep-dive on the sisters relationship.
Vi is a courageous, loving, and loyal sister who would fist fight the devil himself with one hand tied behind her back for her loved ones. But she is still only a person. And as always, the brilliantly heart wrenching writing of this show tells us exactly how Jinx feels about her older sister in the opening of the show, and proves it again at the end:
Even when they were little girls on that bridge, Vi walked tall, trying to shield Powder from the horror around them. But when it became too much, when the horror, and the pain, and the loss overwhelmed her, Powder threw her small body over her big sister trying with everything in her to be that shield for Vi.... Just as she would the next time Violet needed her...
I am firmly and completely convinced she would not leave Vi like that unless she truly felt it was the right thing for both of them. She has come to far and been through too much. Agree or disagree, I think she is doing her best to be that sister Vi deserves once more. Even if its painful.
What I Hope:
My hope, is that Caitlyn shares her information with Violet when she feels she has enough to not devastate her beloved with false hope. And that hearing that, Vi will choose to honor her sister's decision, as well as see the truth that she herself deserves love, and peace, and safety, and be at peace. My hope is that in the end, Vi can see Jinx's decision was not one of neglect, or abandonment, or crisis. But just as Vi had always tried so hard to be Jinx needed, in that moment Jinx saw what they both needed, and made the hard call, to give them both the chance the world tried to steal from them.
Thank you all for reading. I know I have been a tad feisty lately and I wanted to get back to talking about what I love about this show! These characters and this story connect with us all on such deep levels because of their humanity. Their flaws, their strengths, the moments they succeed and the moments they fall short. Ultimately, we can't know if Violet will do the right thing if and when she finds out. But she and Caitlyn give me hope. I hope this has done the same for you.
Never stop standing for the stories that matter. See yall next time!

Shock Part Two |Kakashi Hatake X Reader|

Part One
Summary: It’s been two weeks since you showed up on Kakashi’s doorstep. How has so much changed in so little time?
Warnings: Idk where I was going with this so it's based around a ✨️vibe✨️
- - - - -
"How are the stitches?"
"Had them taken out this morning, actually. Your handiwork got a lot of compliments, by the way."
"I couldn't have you running around with such a grisly scar, now could I?"
"Oh, it's still a gruesome sight."
"I suppose you'll have to show me sometime."
"Never thought I'd live to see the day the great Hatake Kakashi would so openly flirt with me."
"Am I flirting? I don't think so..."
"So it's a common occurrence for you to ask to see your friends so intimately? Maybe that rumor about you peaking down Gai's jumpsuit wasn't so farfetched after all."
It'd been like this for the past two weeks.
Just because you'd left his apartment that night didn't mean you stopped seeing him. Several chance encounters in common areas had only solidified the rapidly growing tension between you two. It was never uncomfortable, more so just... unsure. You hadn't had any kind of specific dynamic to settle into, so there was a bit of an awkward trial period where you felt each other out, but really, it didn't last long.
"Hey, that was one time."
You paused just short of the market entrance and raised an eyebrow at him. Sure, the offhand comment of the event from Asuma had lived in the back of your mind for quite some time, but you didn't think there was any truth to it.
And you especially didn't think he'd admit to it.
You just shook your head and continued towards the shops, not waiting to give Kakashi the chance to expose any intimate details. Kakashi is one thing, but Lord knows what any story involving Gai may contain. He follows you around the booths, making idle conversation as you buy an assortment of items. Chicken, rice, cabbage, sure, he can guess what you're going for, but it's when you get to the spice stand that you lose him completely.
He watches as pick up and set down random jars, the furrow in your brow becoming more and more strained as you proceed.
"Did you have something in mind, or...?" He trails off, not wanting to outright accuse you of not having a clue as to what you're doing. You take a step back and look over everything, but nothing stands out to you. Everything is in generic packaging, nothing like the little jars your friends have in their kitchen cabinets.
"I wanted to try something like the teriyaki chicken that Kurenai makes, but think it might be a little too far off from my... particular skillset."
'Particular skillset' of course meaning no skills at all. Your parents took care of feeding you up until they died during the Kyuubi attack, and by then you were so busy in ANBU that there was really no reason to learn. You ate at food stalls while in town and roasted fish over a fire when you were out- a foolproof system that had yet to betray you.
But the past two weeks off had left you itching for something to do and street food had begun losing it's appeal.
Kakashi rolls his eyes, having learned good and well by now that you're a fire hazard in the kitchen on a good day. He steers you by your shoulders away from the ground herbs and spices and toward another stall where he can pick up some mirin. He ignores any questions you ask, opting to repeat the same "be patient" and "just wait" mantras over and over until you reach his apartment.
He's thankful that your knife skills transfer to the kitchen at least. He tasks you with butterflying the chicken as he washes the rice and gets out all the ingredients for the sauce he thinks you're aiming for. It's quiet as the two of you work- several nights spent just like this have you falling into the familiar motions with ease. Only when the chicken is searing in the pan, coated with a sauce you definitely added too much corn starch to, does Kakashi finally break the silence.
"Any idea when your leave ends?"
"Nah. The old man's been dodging me. I'm pretty sure he's going to retire me, though."
"Oh?"
He tries to sound nonchalant, but it comes out a tad too quickly. He'd be lying if he said he hadn't been enjoying your time together. He knows perfectly well that you'd carve out time for him should you return to active duty, but retirement had made him rather selfish these days, and he was wanting a bit more than that.
You huff and roll your eyes, what you assume to be his thirst for gossip still surprising you. "I'm a bit... difficult to work with. Recruiting and training a whole new squad when I've already pushed my luck this far might be a waste of resources."
Kakashi only nods. Fifteen years is a long time- longer than any other officer has been active- and while your track record is dazzling, he can't imagine Hiruzen sending you back out after such a clear sign from the universe. That's not even mentioning how warped your team structure was to accommodate your specific skill set.
"Is this," he pauses, not quite sure where his question is going, "Upsetting to you?"
It's phrasing is less elegant than he was aiming for, but the intent is clear enough.
You tilt your head back and forth in a silly manner to loosen the tension his question has caused in your head. It's definitely a loaded response. Rationally, you knew this wouldn't, couldn't, go on forever, and honestly, it shouldn't have lasted as long as it has. Anbu is incredibly hard on your mind and body, just the same with those before you, and sure to affect those who will come after. There were more kinks in your back than muscles at this point and the cushion of a mattress felt a little too good on your achy joints. The anxiety accumulated from years of sneak attacks and watch duty had pushed you to a point of exhaustion that a few measly nights at home couldn't erase.
You'd been robbed of your childhood (not there was much to enjoy during a war) and shoved into a plain mask- a half-assed attempt to protect you from the consequences and stigma of your sins. You'd been sent on missions you had no business even knowing about at eight years old and told to keep a straight face through it all. You'd worked through more teammates than you'd care to admit, each being lost due to circumstances you're sure you could've prevented.
All to say that the decision to put down the mask would be right and just.
Though you'd be lying to say you found any comfort in it.
This is your life, and although any parental figure you'd accumulated wished better for you, it's what you know best. The forest floor and rapid rivers feel more like home than your apartment ever has. Cooking what your friends call 'a balanced meal' is difficult compared to found berries and freshly caught cod. Being cautious of your facial expressions was taxing and the lack of routine was borderline disorienting.
But there was a glimmer of hope that kept you from tracking down that old geezer and demanding to stay on the roster, and that was Kakashi.
He was probably the furthest someone could get from well adjusted, and he's doing okay- great, even. He seems happier, less on edge, and much friendlier compared to the asshole you grew up alongside. He no longer snaps at Gai for 'trivial things' like lunch outings and friendly competitions. He's more willing to waste a day lounging around instead of dedicating his free moments to training.
All of this had been in the back of your mind since that first meeting with the Hokage, where he'd only wished you a fruitful recovery and sent you on your way.
But you sure as hell weren't about to say all this to Kakashi, so you settled on-
"It is what it is."
-and lifted the lid on the pan, letting the steam separate you from Kakashi's piercing gaze. He didn't say anything as you prepared dinner, just watched as you carefully filled the bowls and set the table. He should've known he wouldn't get anything out of you. You'd made it abundantly clear over the past two weeks that words were not your strong suit, oftentimes shutting him down with a pat on the back or a wave of your hand.
But that didn't make him any less unsatisfied with your lame response.
- - - - -
It isn't until a week later that you finally corner Hiruzen into giving you a straight answer, and just as you thought, he slid a stack of dismissal papers across his desk. He was uncharacteristically nervous as he did so, likely traumatized by past shinobi who reacted less than professionally about the endeavor.
You're walking down the street, mask in hand and dressed in the new street clothes you had no choice but to buy after your initial return, when you see your friends gathered in the dango parlor. You push the curtain aside and call out a greeting to catch their attention. Kurenai is quick to wave you over, scooting closer toward Asuma to make room in the booth for you to sit. You almost felt bad for the cramped bench, but neither of the pair seemed all that upset to be pressed up against one another.
They were, however, bothered when you set the porcelain in your hand down on the table. The air got thicker, any remnants of conversation dying out as their eyes shifted to the unmarked mask. Even Gai seemed to lose his usual lack of awarenness, falling perfectly in line with the others' distress. Lots of agents had similar masks- animals could only look so different when reduced to a few red streaks and a set of ears- but yours was one of a kind. No ears, no paint, no special eyes- its ambiguity perfectly matching your cover name.
"You know that's a bad omen, right?"
You furrow your brows at Kurenai, not sure what she meant. You look at Kakashi when he sighs, his hand moving to rub the crease in his brow. Kurenai takes the mask and sets it on your lap, beneath the table where it could be hidden from sight.
"That's the Calamity God's mask. It brings destruction and undoing."
Calamity... huh?
You thumb over the rim of the eye holes, not knowing how to respond to the apparent 'bad omen' tied to your anbu persona.
"Where did you even get that? No shops in the village are willing to sell them."
"I... um-"
Your mouth is dry and your brain is fumbling to find a response. You dart your eyes from her red ones over to the silver-haired jonin, only to find that he was already preoccupied with a silent conversation of his own with the boys. You settled on staring down at the porcelain in your lap, the empty sockets looking more and more life-like as they stared back.
People talked about you behind your back and you were far from oblivious to it, at least among the other black ops. It appears that civilians have their own rumors separate from anything that might grace your ears in the locker room.
Calamity was not new to you. It was stamped into bingo books across the foreign lands, right above the phrase 'do not engage' or 'flee on sight'. Though, the Godly title and associated lore that followed were ones you'd never heard.
And didn't care to hear again.
"I think I've made a mistake."
You're gone in the blink of an eye, flickering away from your friends and into the busy streets. Your breath catches in your throat, preventing you from moving any further towards the Hokage's office. You can feel your head spinning, the blood rushing in your ears and blurring the street life behind you. There's something touching your shoulder, but you can't be bothered to fight it off, the anxiety in your chest dulling any instinct you might have to run.
Your eyes sting from the unfamiliar well of tears. The slight tremor in your body makes your knees weak and unable to fully support yourself. Luckily, you're only stuck in public view for a moment before you're being dragged into an empty alleyway, away from others in the peak of your collapse.
You're set down against the brick wall, where you immediately slide down to the ground and shove your face into your knees. Your breathing is only getting heavier, the tears on your skin overstimulating you more than you'd ever experienced before.
You push your fingers through your hair and grip it at the scalp, desperate for some sort of distraction from the way your entire being is fighting itself. A sob racks your body. Then another and another, and it's so consuming that you can't even feel the hands attempting to untangle yours from your hair. It's only once they're gone and the comforting pressure is lifted that you notice. You can hear mumbling, can feel hands tightly compress yours and the light of the sun be slowly blocked by something.
"Y/n, you have to breathe,"
You shake your head and try to bury yourself deeper between your knees. It's too much. Actually living as a civilian for the past three weeks was easy- boring, but easy. You knew that everything would eventually fall into place and you could get to a point where life would come naturally.
This though?
This was something else entirely. Your reputation would haunt you, and not in the shiny way that Kakashi's had followed him.
Kakashi has experienced his fair share of panic attacks, but never has he been on the other side. He has his own remedies- simple things like hot showers or laying on the kitchen tile- neither of which being particularly useful in this situation, though. Not to mention, neither are really things that are guaranteed to work even if he could get you somewhere with the proper resources.
He hasn't been a particularly active person in your life until recently, but there's one aspect of your personality that has always been apparent; you communicate best through actions. Thinking back to the first night you spent together, he's positive nothing he said got through to you. It was only once your body was refreshed that your mind was cleared. You'd only relax when his skin was touching yours, like you needed a physical reminder that things were real and okay.
So he did the only thing he thought would ground you and pulled you into the most suffocating embrace he could manage. It's not as uncomfortable as he thought it'd be, especially once he's able to wrestle you into the spot between his legs. He's thankful for his size, making it easy to completely encompass you in his hold.
Luckily the alleyway is out of sight from the main road, your bodies hidden away by the curve of the building and a stack of empty produce boxes. It isn't until the harsh light of the setting sun is replaced by the chill night air and the chatter of passerbyers dies out that he's confident you're thoroughly relaxed. His arms have since eased up, but haven't been removed from their place. Your stiff muscles have been reduced to mush, the entirety of your body pressed into the jounin's torso, but he doesn't seem to mind.
"You want me to take you home?"
You shake your head, the movement muffled by your place against him, but the actions clear enough.
"Hmmm," he playfully nudges your head with his chin, "I could take you back to mine, but I don't think the girl I've been seeing would like that very much."
"Oh, as if anyone would willingly-" you pause, the gears in your head finally turning as you register his words. It doesn't take a genius to know he's poking fun at you and whatever odd situationship you've found yourself in, and what's even worse is you've unknowingly dragged yourself down as well by running your mouth. "Damn."
He laughs at you. Even with all the shit talk you dish out, he's confident that you're not, not interested. He can hear it in the way you speak with him- the mental block that Anbu creates between oneself and the rest of the world isn't present between you. He sees it in your subtle touches that may not stand out to anyone else, but are most definitely meant for him only. There's an easiness, a certain level of understanding that exists between you. It's a collection of feelings that Minato had tried and failed to put into words for him all those years ago, and now he knows why the man had stumbled over it so horridly.
He also knows that it's only been three weeks and he's already fucked, something his sensei had also been unfortunate enough to live through, so hopefully you're at least on the same wavelength.
Kakashi stands, dissolving any remnants of sentiment that may have been lingering. He hauls you up and over his shoulder with unexpected grace and turns towards the alleys entrance to go home.
"You know you don't have to carry me like a criminal, right?"
"How else would I carry you, hm? Perhaps like a princess? Or maybe damsel in distress is more your style?"
"Have you always been so annoying?"
"Depends on who you ask."
You pinch his side, making him almost drop you in his feeble attempt to swat your hand away. It's quiet, but far from uncomfortable. You settle into an awkward position that keeps at least some of the blood from rushing to your head and allow the white noise of the empty village streets to soothe any lingering anxieties in your chest. The wind is a little brisk but the chirp of crickets is still present. Most of the shop windows are closed but the restaurants remain full, faint chatter from the customers filling the air as you pass by.
"Hey, Kakashi?"
He hums in acknowledgment but doesn't say anything more, likely enjoying the peaceful air as well.
"Why-" you hesitate, not knowing if your question is one you should be asking and definitely not knowing if there's even a casual way to ask it, "Why didn't you tell me? About the rumors, I mean."
You can feel the slight misstep he takes but he doesn't show any other signs of distress. You can damn near hear the cylinders firing in his head, trying to piece together some semblance of a satisfying answer.
"I didn't want to stress you out."
"How'd that work out for you, big guy?"
He smacks the back of your thigh and exhales heavily, "Obviously, not too well."
He turns into his complex and navigates the halls until he's at his unit. He unlocks the door and brings you inside, gently setting you on the kitchen counter so he can flip on some lights and fill a glass with water. He watches as you down the liquid and your posture relaxes ever so slightly.
"I was hoping that when it came up, I could push the conversation a certain way."
"I would've preferred to hear it from you."
"I was trying to put it off for as long as possible. I wanted to give you as much time as I could for you to adjust so retirement would seem more appealing."
It's silent in the kitchen. There's nothing either of you can say to erase the tension in the air. You're not upset- not at him, anyway- a fact Kakashi is well aware of but still feels guilty about. He remembers being blindsided by retirement. For him, nothing had changed, only that one moment he was anbu and the next he just... wasn't. He's well aware that your situation is vastly different and your head is on a lot straighter than his had been, but that doesn't necessarily make things easier. If he had known that the topic would unravel like that, he would've rethought that decision in a heartbeat.
"Why all the calamity stuff, anyway? I mean, I know I'm a bit over the top, but it seems a little extreme," you fidget with the ends of your sleeves, pinching and rolling the knit material between your fingers. You look up when Kakashi sighs and watch as he fails to hide the frustration from his internal battle. He kicks off the counter he was leaning against to stand in front of you, his hands gripping the marble on either side of your thighs. His head hangs low and you can't help but laugh at the groan he lets out.
"You know how superstitious civilians can be," he finally straightens himself, one of his arms raising so he can tug off his headband to look at you, "And coming out with new folklore to point to when things go wrong is their favorite way to cope."
"Well, why can't I be like, I don't know," you huff, "Mother Nature? She starts floods and fires and rock slides, too, so why am I the only one getting a bad rap?"
As hard as you may be trying to keep your devious smile under wraps, Kakashi can see it clear as day. He bites back the many, many tempting retorts that overwhelm his brain, opting to give your stupid comment a pass just this once. "I think our line of work might be too dirty for such a shiny title."
"Says the mighty Copy Cat."
"Hey, no need to drag me down, too."
"Someone needs to," no longer interested in your own attire, you pull at the bottom of his jounin vest and tug at the straps to straighten it out, "Can't have you running around so-" your grip falters when your gaze finally flickers up to his. You hadn't realized how close he'd gotten- his face only a few short inches away.
"So, what?" there's that teasing tilt to his voice, one that's begging you to ignore his obvious intentions and continue as if everything were fine.
"So cocky," you eventually settle on, forcing your eyes away from his and focusing on his worn vest. You proceed with your attempt to fix his uniform, all too aware of the heat radiating off his skin, "Who flirts with someone not even an hour after a panic attack, anyway?"
"Someone who knows you well enough to provide an effective distraction."
"Distraction, huh? And here I thought we had something."
"A guy can have more than one reason for doing things," that's when you feel the pads of his thumbs rub against the loose fabric of your pants.
For a man so terrible with even the prospect of a connection with people, Kakashi sure is forward. You'd heard him threaten to lace Gai's protein powder once after the man had tried to hug him, but here he was, treating your personal space as if it were his own.
Not that you were complaining.
"I just realized we ditched our friends," your back straightens, eyes going wide when you remember that the others are likely still waiting for the two of you to return. Kakashi shakes his head, his now loose hair swaying a bit with the action.
"They won't mind."
"Yeah, but-"
"But nothing. They're smart enough to figure things out."
"And what happens when Kurenai shows up to my apartment to talk and I'm not there?"
"Like I said," his hands move upward, fingers running over your legs and resting at your hips, "They're smart enough to figure things out."
While he may not have said the quiet part out loud, his tone is more than enough to get his implications across. The way his eyes keep lingering on your features isn't helping either, especially when you notice his sharingan spinning, no doubt recording what ever was going through his mind for later.
It's not his fault. At the end of the day, he's still only a man- a man with someone so pretty sitting on his counter, allowing him to touch however he pleases. Your face is still splotchy from crying, hair a little messy from tugging at it so hard, but if anything, it's only adding to your appeal. Any guilt he may feel about the situation or its circumstances evaporates when he presses his thumbs deeper into your skin, fingers sinking into the fat of your hips.
“Kakashi?”
He hums but doesn’t give any further confirmation that he’s actually heard you. You see the moment he checks out of the conversation completely, the rough pads of his fingers pushing past your shirt to glide over your waist. He’s warm, not just in physical heat but in the way he sighs contently at the action, like hes been waiting for this. Hell, maybe has.
It’s weird to think that a month ago you were practically strangers. You attended the academy at the same time, been in anbu together, looked up to all the same people, and even shared the same friend group, yet you couldn’t have been less entwined. It took one night- just a single instance of mutual understanding- to bring you together after so many factors failed to do so, and now you’re a breath away from him hoping things will continue moving forward.
“Are you going to kiss me?” you ask, “Or are you just going to skip right to second base?”
He pauses, realizing just how close he had gotten to your chest. He swallows hard, his composure slipping a bit before steeling once more. “If you count that night in the shower, I’d say we were already there.”
“So, no kissing?”
Kakashi laughs and in one smooth motion detaches himself from your waist to pull down his mask. You don’t have any time to truly appreciate his features before his head dips down and his lips press against yours. It’s chaste, only lasting a second before he briefly pulls away just to return harder, his palm pushing on your back so your chest is pressed to his. His lips are a little dry, likely from the incoming winter, but soft and inviting nonetheless. Your hands move up, fingers gliding through his hair and settling on his neck to pull him in. Every motion is fluid, completely in tune with one another, and if you were the least bit of a romantic you’re sure this is what you’d call fate.
You’ve kissed other people before, but never like this- like the other person isn’t just on the same page as you, but like they’re reading the same sentence. He moves when you do, tilts his head in all the right directions, and knows just when you need a breath of air. When he finally pulls away, your gaze meet his. His cheeks are flushed and you’re sure you’re no better off. That red eye of his is still spinning, remembering everything about the moment and for a moment you envy the ability.
“Satisfied?”
You huff out a laugh and gently tug at his hair in retaliation.
“Not quite.”
“Damn,” Kakashi sighs dramatically, “Guess we’ll have to keep going then.”
You smile, already leaning in towards him.
“Guess so.”

The almost overnight surge in electricity demand from data centers is now outstripping the available power supply in many parts of the world, according to interviews with data center operators, energy providers and tech executives. That dynamic is leading to years-long waits for businesses to access the grid as well as growing concerns of outages and price increases for those living in the densest data center markets. The dramatic increase in power demands from Silicon Valley’s growth-at-all-costs approach to AI also threatens to upend the energy transition plans of entire nations and the clean energy goals of trillion-dollar tech companies. In some countries, including Saudi Arabia, Ireland and Malaysia, the energy required to run all the data centers they plan to build at full capacity exceeds the available supply of renewable energy, according to a Bloomberg analysis of the latest available data. By one official estimate, Sweden could see power demand from data centers roughly double over the course of this decade — and then double again by 2040. In the UK, AI is expected to suck up 500% more energy over the next decade. And in the US, data centers are projected to use 8% of total power by 2030, up from 3% in 2022, according to Goldman Sachs, which described it as “the kind of electricity growth that hasn’t been seen in a generation.”

I’m trying to untangle The Problem of Garashir (not the least because, well, I’m writing the pairing) -
and I think honestly one of the biggest… roadblocks? bits of untapped potential in the pairing? is that we never really see their relationship put a strain on their ideological convictions.
Which is to say, “the societal institutions we’re subject to are corrupt, but our love is pure, so we’re going to abandon those institutions for each other” is, whether implicitly or explicitly, a common framing in fanfic featuring them (such as I’ve seen) - and to be fair, it’s a common romance trope in general. But I can’t say it works for me for these characters. And part of that is that imo the show doesn’t sufficiently set that up with its development of the relationship between these two characters, but another part of that is that I simply don’t see a world in which that kind of relationship dynamic/approach would fit with their characterizations.
To address the first point - there are never any situations involving these characters in which their fundamental values or institutional loyalties are challenged as a result of their relationship. At no point does Garak, for example, have to choose between Cardassia and his affection for Bashir. (I’ve seen people read The Wire that way, but I don’t think the reading works - The Wire is a fantastic showcase for Garak’s worldview and value system and the cracks and contradictions therein, but even though Bashir’s unwavering commitment to helping him despite what he’s done is certainly unprecedented and moving to him, his underlying value system hasn’t changed by the end of that episode.) And while Bashir’s faith in Starfleet and the Federation does get rocked quite a bit over the course of the show, it’s never because of his friendship with Garak.
Instead, I’d say that with some exceptions (like The Wire), their friendship in the early seasons is usually framed as a respite from their serious responsibilities or moral dilemmas. This especially true of Garak, who is likely not used to someone simply enjoying his company with no ulterior motives whatsoever, but the narrative maneuvering of the show also does a lot to shield Bashir from the reality of who Garak is. Yes, he gets a taste of that in The Wire, when Garak goes out of his way to impress upon him what the reality of his life as a spy truly was. But that’s still only verbal testimony, and only confined to what Garak has done in the past. Bashir is largely absent from all the shit that Garak pulls during the show!
And I’m not complaining that, say, the events of The Die Is Cast take place between Garak and Odo, because it makes thematic sense for it to be Odo for that arc. (And I love that friendship.) But Garak and Bashir do not get a plot like that, or like In the Pale Moonlight, where Bashir is directly exposed to or complicit in Garak’s immoral behaviour. The closest we get to an actual serious ethical clash between them is in Our Man Bashir, which is a goofy comedy episode. (And it’s worth noting that Bashir calls Garak’s bluff and shoots him in that confrontation! Yeah, he likely missed on purpose, given what we later learn about his magic hand-eye coordination, but he’s still unwilling to compromise on his heroism for Garak’s sake. It’s actually a pretty Cardassian gesture, which is probably part of why Garak loves it so much, but it does say a lot about where their priorities are re: their commitment to their values vs. each other.)
And I think the lack of more serious, plot-relevant ethical conflict between Garak and Bashir is a real loss for the show, because one thing I find really interesting about their relationship is that - in contrast to the examples of Odo and Sisko up there - Bashir is the person in the cast most able to hold Garak accountable. He’s repeatedly established as one of the most firmly moral members of the cast, and his righteous anger at seeing those morals trodden upon is one of his most defining character traits in the later seasons. His unconditional forgiveness of Garak in The Wire is lovely, and it is an important moment in the development of both their relationship and Bashir’s character. But in the long term, once we get into actual serious, consequential war and espionage plots? And if we’re imagining them in a long term committed relationship? It wouldn’t be sustainable, and it doesn’t feel in keeping with Bashir’s character that’d he have endless reservoirs of patience and understanding specifically for Garak. And it’s precisely because Bashir is uniquely able to grant Garak forgiveness that he’d also potentially be uniquely able to chastise him.
(This is why, by the way, my headcanon as to the in-universe reason why they don’t seem as close in the later seasons, paternity deathbed reveals and occasional flirty bantering notwithstanding, is that Bashir was seriously fucking pissed at the stunt Garak pulled in Broken Link, both in terms of the personal betrayal and the destructiveness towards sentient life, and that it created a significant rift between them.)
All of that is to say - my biggest regret with the show’s sidelining of their dynamic isn’t the fact that their relationship never becomes romantic (not a chance of that in the 90s, and also these writers were pretty terrible at writing romance) but that they never get to have an argument. An actual serious, non-flirtatious, two-sided, genuinely-angry-at-each-other-argument. I want to see conflict! (I honestly think that their exchange in What You Leave Behind comes the closest to the kind of conflict I’d like to pick up on in post-canon fic - where they are conciliatory in the moment but still have this really wrenching chasm between them, and unresolved frustration as a result of that chasm.)
So as an extension of these thoughts, I actually really like that we’re not given the basis for a traditional “us against the world” style romance plot. I like that these characters are clearly deeply fond of each other and significant to each others’ development, but have other important connections (Garak especially, since despite being only a recurring character introduced through Bashir, he integrates into the broader cast) and other priorities besides each other.
Furthermore, despite the significant differences in their value systems, one very fundamental thing they have in common is how passionately devoted they are to their respective causes. For Garak, it’s Cardassia. And while his idea of what it means to serve Cardassia, and what Cardassia needs, undergoes a lot of change over the course of the show, I don’t see any version of Garak in which Cardassia is not his first love. For Bashir, it’s altruism and helping people, as well as his intellectual curiosity - aims which are reflected in Starfleet and the Federation for him but ultimately higher ideals.
And I don’t think either Garak or Bashir would admire the other nearly as much if they were willing to let go of everything they hold dear for the sake of romance. They’re both far too committed to being a part of the world. Garak may have some fun with trying to shake Bashir of his optimism, but ultimately Bashir’s goodness, his fierce conviction that no one deserves to suffer, are among the most compelling aspects of his personality. And if Bashir is ever going to actually enter a serious relationship with Garak, he’s got to move beyond flirty intrigue and literary banter and see Garak as someone who’s proactively committed to goals that Bashir can respect. If they’re coming together as a couple, it’s because their aims and beliefs have come into alignment in some way.
And to be fair, a lot of post-canon Cardassia stuff is doing the latter. But I also want more… conflict within that framework, I guess? I don’t want a romantic relationship and the act of getting together to be the endpoint of whatever reconciliation of values they need to work through. And that’s part of what I’m trying to untangle in planning this fic of mine - especially regarding how fraught romantic commitment feels for them. For Bashir, there’s the problem of not only reconciling himself with what Garak has done, but also of choosing to be with someone whose impulses and entire cultural belief system places duty and institutional loyalty above personal feelings. And for Garak, there’s the fact that the most devoted and emotionally intense relationship he’s had in his life thus far has been with Tain, who embodied Cardassia for him - and as a result, I doubt he quite knows what to do with the possibility of a serious relationship with Bashir, who is very emphatically not Cardassia. He’s not used to being divided in his passions!
It’s not that I’m never capable of being moved by post-canon stuff that involves Bashir being charmed by how slippery Garak is, or them generally being quippy and fond of each other (I’m not made of stone here). But I’m never satisfied with just that, because that escapist element never feels like it translates well from the early seasons of the show to post-canon, and because it never engages with what I find the most fascinating about what’s set up with their whole dynamic. (And I especially dislike it when it feels like Bashir’s character is getting shortchanged in terms of his complexity and moral convictions being excised in order for Garak to get everything he wants.)
#in some ways this 1500 word meta is just. lamenting how hard it is to make the pairing Make Sense#i have more of a sense of bashir's dynamic with his cardassian lady scientist fuckbuddy and the thematic import of that dynamic#than of how garashir will actually come to make sense within this fic. and that's a problem lmao#ds9#garashir#julian bashir#elim garak#my meta#ds9 talk

Timebomb fics rec
A lot of timebomb fics are hiding through a lot of CaitVi/JayVik tagged works on ao3 (while many are also CV orJV centric) so i made this rec post for everyone who dont want to spent 1 hour scrolling or missing some of them bc you're filtering other ships!! (sorry for the short summaries/ i didnt write my thoughts as thoughtfully as i would have liked because.yk.time and all. update chapter count/add of new fics every week)
AU/crossovers fics
Je t'aime (Je t'attends) 3 chapter, WIP.
Hunger games x Timebomb/Arcane, the way the system of the games from the og novels are mixed in the Arcane universe is really masterful, the writer dont lose too much time explaining it but you understand the dynamics of the 2 cities and the characters perfectly anyway.
Where would you be now ? by enaven 5/6 chapters, WIP.
family/modern AU, timebomb feels, Ekko and Jinx are Isha's parents, CaitVi are just silly aunts and i'll never stop recommending this fic
you're the best thing to ever happen to me (but also the worst thing to ever happen to me) by grey_toiletpaper ( @greytoiletpaper ) 3/8 chapters, WIP. Rated T.
Timebomb inspired by 10 things i hate about you.
We Moved Into a Real House (a Wild Field Behind it) by smokesatellite 3/10 chapters. WIP. Rated T.
Modern AU, Timebomb roommates/friends to lovers, Isha is a foster kid...you know where this is going .. (Ekko as a nurse is not something i expected but its surprisingly good. Also the in law feud between Jinx and Cait is very funny)
s1 fics
Silco is less of an asshole
The Heart of Zaun by 1ts_Br1tney_B1tch 8/ chapters. WIP.
or: Silco try to rally the Firelights to his cause (in this case, Zaun - he's much more involved in doing better for his city than in the show) but of course they're bound to have some..tension between them, since they hate him - and Shimmer. (it has the good parent Silco tag so i'd say that all in all, this Silco is a little less...Silco than in Arcane, but manage to keep some of the bite he has in canon...) i only read 2 chapters, and what i can say is that it does a good job with the general cast, the interactions between Silco/Ekko-Firelights are believable, i think the one thing that could have weird me out is the way Silco is said to be 'proud' of the Firelights in the summary (for me 'pride' is something he'd reserve for Jinx yk?? anyway i stop the rambling) . The Timebomb relationship has more or less the same push and pull as in the show, with Ekko thinking about the girl Jinx used to be/ Ekko being a link to the past before Jinx and all that entail...so yeah, i'm loving it!
Powder doesnt become Jinx
The Alpha Command by typewriter_in_galaxy 13 chapters. WIP. Rated E.
ABO/Reverse AU where Powder doesnt become Jinx and is raised by Viktor, Ekko is taken in by Silco. btw i dont read a lot of abo fic (im very nickpick) but this one does every characters justice, and actually dwelve in depth in the abo universe.. (everything by typewriter is good to be honest, but my favorite thing is how they write Powder, who even when she doesnt become Jinx, is still shaped by a very violent world/trauma and it shows through her mental health issues and very, very low self worth/need to prove herself. )
everything's better with a friend by typerwriter_in_galaxy 7chapters. Completed. Rated E.
Timebomb centric rewrite of Arcane, Jinx is Powder, she doesnt fall under Silco's hand (or in his arms precisely), Ekko is Ekko, and 1, i need to hug Powder, 2 she deserves the world and 3 the characterization of everyone, everyone is so brillantly written and the timebomb relationship (damn even the CaitVi one too) oh, the timebomb of it all... they feel so, so real and it hurts, Powder's insecurities, her mental illness, her guilt, her need to prove herself but in same time she doesnt feel herself worth of anything (or anyone) good... just.read it. read it, because i just did, after like 2 years of not doing that and. im like mad bc why didnt i??? but in same time so grateful to just discover it now, taking my sweet little time reading it; it rewinded my brain its amazing, (like this work in another fandom, the first time i read this rebelcaptain's fic A Love song by skitzofreak - did i just linked it for you to read even tho its a timebomb rec post??? yes. yes i did. thats how much i love, adore, worship this one guys - so everything's better made me think a lot of this TB fic, and also of RC (the abandonment issues, thinking that you have to leave first before everyone leave you, Jyn and Powder damn).
Shattered Web by Firewolf2132 1 chapter. WIP. Rated M.
you know how everyone make the comparaison between Ekko and Miles?? well, the author found a way for Ekko transform into a spiderman that feels right in the arcane verse (end of act1) and damn its so good. Ekko slowly morphing and gaining his powers while everyone still have some focus on them (mostly Powder), but it still manages to keep the suspense of the fate of other characters. fabulous. author note: [I have seen so many comparisons between Ekko and Miles and a lot of fanart. So it felt that I had to do this. I can't promise future chapters right now (busy), but I am eager to see if this inspires any stories with a similar premise.]
S2 fanfics
fics covering Timebomb moments between ep 8 Ekko saving her /they painted each other and ep9
Go Back For Her by A_Lily_In_The_Moonlight 3/3 chapters. Completed. Rated E.
Ekko's pov -i only read 1 chapter - we see his thought's process on his relationship with Powder AU/ Jinx, and how he came to the conclusion he must go back to her. the moment where he help Jinx with his Z-drive comes a little differently than in ep8 (well, the aftermath) aaand another fic where Jinx's grief over Isha's death shatters me, the pain and the self loathing/blaming from Jinx really devastating.
I dont believe in God, but i believe you're my savior by mquesterminds One shot. Rated T
[summary: every time Ekko has to rewind time to stop Jinx it cuts to a different moment from throughout their love story because I'm allergic to happiness the moments covering their shared past really make their present 10 times sadder.]
I'm sure we're taller in another dimension by hallwayheart One shot. Rated M. i have nothing to say because i'm still processing what i just read.ty.
Fires That Were Set by ilophilia ( @ilophilia on tumblr) 1 chapter. WIP.
the conversation after Ekko helped Jinx in episode 8. Loved the banter, the emotions (the grief is there and its important to feel it but damn i want to hug them so bad). They tell each other what happened when Ekko was gone, and you feel the distance/the closeness, near intimacy building again and its beautiful..
Hope is a winged beast by Grey_ Unicorn 4 chapters. WIP. Rated E.
prepare you tissues because i was myself not ready for chapter 3 and the emotional wreck of Jinx processing her grief. but here we are.
fics from AU Powder pov/exchange between Jinx and AU Powder
what we left behind by re_dragon_rising 3/3 chapters. Completed. Rated T.
Powder traverses to the og arcane universe 1 year after Ekko's visit. (the insight into her life after Ekko leaves is wholesome and also give the reader a glimpse of the Mylo/Claggor/Powder siblings dynamics + the impact of Vi's death on them. really great. a little sad too.)
The other Ekko by GrammarThyEnemy Oneshot. General audience.
Powder knows this Ekko is not her Ekko.
memento vivere by fuwaaa 1/2. WIP. General audience.
covering the AU episode, Powder knows something's up with Ekko.
See Ya On The Other Side by moth_dust 3/5 chapters, WIP. Rated T.
Powder also travel to the og universe.
these forgotten faces by whippindippin ( @whippindippin on tumblr too!) 6 chapters, WIP. Rated T.
Jinx and Powder body swap and its both the worst and best thing that could ever happen to either of them. great reading and their reaction on point.
Isha is alive
Astrantia by AelinCreativ ( @aelincreativ they're on tumblr too!) 5 chapters, WIP. Rated T.
canon divergence where Ekko saves Isha. a lot of angst. but also a lot of happiness. so we can cry while smiling along with them. great. ty author!!
Ankle-Biter by darkfire1220 8/9 chapters, WIP. Rated M.
Isha is Jinx's biological daughter, Silco is a not so bad (grand) father, and their mother/daughter bond is one a the greatest thing ever. (very slowburn timebomb). Also Vi. i love you Vi.
post s2
we made our peace with weariness (and let it be) by The_FlamingTiger 3/3 chapters. Completed. Rated M.
Ekko and Jinx reconnect in Bilgewater..(and Jinx goes to therapy. that too. its nice)
I don't believe in God (But I believe that you're my savior) by yeonatsu Oneshot, general audience.
Ekko is mourning.
this hunger for love won’t disappear by Amuria Oneshot, rated T.
Months after the battle for Piltover, Ekko begins to dream of Powder. He thinks it’s his grief playing tricks on him. She has different theory.
Francesca (Do You Think I'd Give Up?) by PoetProlific 2 chapters. WIP.
Ekko tries searching for Jinx...(with the help of Caitlyn, yep. and its well done, because I think Cait would help, for Vi. And i love how Ekko-Cait's dynamics might evolve because of this..)
So I met him there and told him I believe by ijustwanttoreadinpeace 3 chapters, WIP. Rated T.
Jinx begins a new life in Bilgewater but is forced to come back... (edit: be warned, this is now an orphan account so idk if there will be more chapters.)
all the 6 timebomb one shot by atabex (the other fics are not timebomb) they're all rated E and oh boy is it worth it. most of these oneshot are gut wrenching and do smut + characters so well... the most recent one is just Ekko and AU Powder ahem doing the boombayah on the rooftop, but yk, with bits of sad and tragedy here and there.
i'm a little ashamed i'm only adding it now but every TB os fics by @shroomystar is 🤌 nothing else to add because each one of them are good. so. (if you want the explicit one-shots it's here and if you prefer without, it's here )
#timebomb#YEAH#finally after 3000 years of saying i will do a fic rec post for one of my otp i fucking did it#ekko x jinx#jinx x ekko#ekkojinx#arcanes2

Ashwini:☋The Horse and the Rider
Ashwini natives embody the rider—pure motion in human form. They’re always on the move, heading toward something, even if the destination isn’t clear. Directionless or not, nothing can stop Ashwini from moving forward. They channel the wild horse archetype: untamable, majestic, and always charging ahead at full speed.
𓃗
Ashwini is considered the first of the nakshatras associated with beginnings, the initiation of action, and the spark of purpose. It’s a swift, fiery star. As Prash Trivedi writes in The Book of Nakshatras, “The horse has been seen as a symbol of power, courage, movement, and vitality. A horse’s head signifies an eagerness to act and a swiftness of approach. A horse, as we know, is always ready to make journeys not for its own ends, but for the ends of its rider or others in general.” This captures the core of Ashwini: it’s about getting there fast and first. Known as the ‘Star of Transportation,’ Ashwini links naturally to fast-moving vehicles like motorcycles (especially), cars, and of course, horses. These aren’t just modes of transport they carry deep symbolic weight when it comes to freedom. They represent the soul’s urge to move, to escape, to explore, and to assert control over one’s own path. Ashwini doesn’t like being told what to do. It rejects routine, thrives on spontaneity, independence, and the rush of adrenaline. The motorcycle especially embodies this: rebellion, individualism, speed. Aries the sign Ashwini falls under is highly individualistic, and with Ketu as its ruling planet, there’s a mysterious, lone-rider energy at play. Off the grid, self-directed, unconcerned with norms. Culturally, the motorcycle connects to the outlaw archetype: the drifter, the runaway, the seeker. This is a theme I’ll be exploring more in Part 2 of this series.
𓃗
Cars symbolize self-sufficiency and control you decide where and when you go. In media, cars are often tied to the freedom of youth. Ashwini is inherently youthful it’s the first nakshatra, within the baby of the zodiac, Aries. Its deities, the Ashwini Kumaras, are eternally young, playful, and impulsive. This youthful, sometimes naive, but vital energy is what makes Ashwini so dynamic. For many people, a car represents their first true taste of independence. Ashwini relates to road trips, escape, and breaking free from systems and expectations. As @luvvinati perfectly put it: “Ashwini doesn’t care for social constructs.”
𓃗
Horses, though, are where Ashwini’s connection runs deepest. The deities of this nakshatra the Ashwini Kumaras are twin horsemen, and the yoni of this nakshatra is the horse. Its very symbol is a horse’s head. Trivedi writes, “Ashwini’s main symbol is a horse’s head… [it] conveys the idea of a beginning. One can notice how riders pat their horse’s neck before beginning any journey.” Horses represent primal liberation. There’s something almost otherworldly about them majestic, instinctive, spiritual. The bond between rider and horse is physical and soulful. Horses symbolize raw power, untamed energy, and instinctual drive exactly what Ashwini carries at its core. In mythology, horses often act as divine messengers or companions in the soul’s journey across realms. The Ashwini Kumaras are often shown as heroic twins racing in a chariot, bringing healing herbs and remedies to those in need along their path. Always in motion. Always riding. Always serving.”
𓃗☋
Here are a few examples of Ashwini natives who show a clear connection to horses.

Beyoncé (Ashwini ↑), for instance, features horses prominently in her visual work from the Lemonade album to Cowboy Carter. She’s been photographed with horses numerous times and frequently references them in her lyrics, symbolizing strength, freedom, and power. You can feel that she has a deep, instinctive pull toward this animal.

Similarly, Gigi Hadid, Ashwini ☉ ↑ has a lifelong love for horses. She’s an avid equestrian and has competed in horseback riding events, openly sharing her passion for the sport and the animals themselves. These connections reflect the essence of Ashwini energy wild, spirited, and drawn to the majesty of movement.

Penelope Cruz - Ashwini ↑ Jerry Hall - Ashwini ☽

Zendaya - ashwini ☽ Anya Taylor Joy - Ashwini ☉
𓃗☋
The motorcycle, in many ways, is the modern horse and it’s no surprise that Ashwini natives are naturally drawn to it. Even in literature, this archetype persists: The Flamethrowers, a novel by Rachel Kushner (Ashwini ☽), follows a woman obsessed with motorcycles who returns to her birthplace, New York, and falls into a passionate affair with the heir to a motorcycle empire. It’s all very Ashwini movement, chaos, love, and the pursuit of something just beyond reach. I’ve come across numerous images of Ashwini individuals on motorcycles, often captured in bold, iconic moments.

The first example is Pamela Anderson (Ashwini ☽) in Barb Wire (1996), fully embodying the wild, untamed rider archetype. Beyoncé, with Ashwini ↑, later paid homage to this look dressed as Pamela’s character in full leather, reinforcing that Ashwini pull toward motion and power.
Then there’s Marianne Faithfull (Ashwini ↑), seen behind the scenes filming The Girl on a Motorcycle (1968), a film that practically radiates Ashwini energy freedom, rebellion, sensuality, and speed.

Marsha Hunt - Ashwini ☉

Beyoncé- Ashwini ↑ Zendaya-Ashwini ☽
At the end of the day Ashwini desire is Minimal barrier between themselves and the world no walls, just open air and motion But what happens when the rider isn’t just moving but running? Escaping? Becoming myth? In my next ashwini post I’ll be exploring Ashwini being “on the run” and their need for partnership.

⚠️ Thunderbolts Spoilers⚠️
Okay, I really need to hear some thoughts on Thunderbolts—especially the second post-credit scene. If you've seen the movie, please share your opinions because I’m a little confused and kind of emotional about it.
So, as someone who loved watching The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, especially the dynamic between Sam and Bucky (yes, I even shipped them hard at one point, but that’s beside the point), this scene hit me weirdly.
In Captain America: Brave New World, I actually felt really good when they showed us Sam and Bucky’s friendship (and the hug scene, of course). Even though they were not working together anymore and had gone their separate ways, it was clear there was still respect and care between them. That bond was still there.
But now, after watching Thunderbolts, I’m honestly frustrated.
That second post-credit scene, when Bucky mentions trying to talk to Sam about the new Avengers stuff and it goes... poorly? I don’t even know how to feel. I get both sides:
Sam’s perspective: He’s worked so hard to earn the title of Captain America, to prove not just to the world, but to himself, that he’s worthy of the shield and everything it represents. In The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, we saw him wrestle with the weight of legacy, with what it means to be a Black man stepping into a role so heavily tied to American ideals. He didn’t just inherit the mantle. At the end, he chose to carry it, despite the pressure, the doubts, and the pushback. And in Captain America: Brave New World, it’s clear he’s still fighting the systems and expectations around him. He’s building a new kind of Captain America. So yeah, I get why the “Avengers” name matters so much to Sam. It’s not just a title, it represents everything he’s fought for. The idea of leading a new generation of Avengers was more than symbolic to him. It was part of redefining what Captain America stands for in today’s world. So when another team, backed by the government, no less, comes in and starts calling themselves the “New Avengers,” it’s not just frustrating. It’s a slap in the face. Especially when one of the team’s leaders is his friend Bucky, and that friend is now working closely with John Walker, the very person Sam had to fight against for the Captain America title.
Bucky’s perspective: For the first time, he’s not just “the sidekick” or “the Winter Soldier.” He’s not following orders or going along with Sam/Steve. He’s choosing this path. This isn’t about redemption through someone else’s mission. This is Bucky finally taking things into his own hands. After everything—Hydra, the brainwashing, the guilt, the amends, the years of trying to prove he’s not the person they turned him into—this team, as chaotic and unconventional as it is, might actually be his. He’s not just helping; he’s leading. He’s in control. And maybe, just maybe, this is how he starts to wipe away some of the blood on his ledger. He can’t erase the past, but this could be the beginning of making peace with it.
So... are they really setting up Sam and Bucky to be on opposing teams? Are we heading into another Civil War-type situation? Because if that’s where this is going, it’s honestly heartbreaking for me.
I actually enjoyed the movie overall. There are some things I could nitpick, sure—but this particular storyline left me feeling really weird after watching it today. Like, is anyone else focused on this scene? Or am I just way too attached to their friendship?
Would love to hear everyone’s thoughts. Seriously.
