I just finished reading The Butcher Boy for the fourth time.

It never loses its appeal. I can't remember how old I was when I read it for the first time, but it's stuck with me ever since. It isn't always easy to find a book that, when read once, you're not bored by on a re-read. But among the handful I have found myself enjoying multiple times, this is definitely near the top of the pack - if not number one. Clearly that's because Patrick McCabe is masterful.

The film is a good example of translating books to screen, too. I'm a sucker for any film of a book that stays as close to the text as possible.
