Hi! I put together an introduction post to block printing on fabric, based on my experience so far. Some basic info on printmaking blocks, ink types and the like. Enjoy!
First off - I have a background in fashion, but fabric block printing is purely a leisure activity for me. This info is intended mostly for other hobbyists and people who want to try their hand at this and don't know where to start. HERE are some examples of works I've done so far. I'll be really glad if this post will help or inspire someone to try<3
(please note that all the materials are what I could get here in Poland - this would obviously differ from country to country)
INK TYPES
SPEEDBALL Fabric Block Printing Ink

Probably the most popular fabric printing ink. Oil-based, water-washable. It has nice viscosity and spreads evenly. Available in many colors, a really nice opaque white among them. Works best with a soft rubber brayer from the same producer (although could be used with a more common, hard rubber brayer as well). Doesn't need heat setting, just a few days to dry properly. It mantains a soft hand after, although it is slightly noticeable. Can be used on both natural and synthetic fibers. Durable: with a test t-shirt I didn't notice much changes after a few washes.
ESSDEE Fabric Block Printing Ink

Water-based, water- washable ink. As in all water-based inks, the viscosity is average - works ONLY with a dedicated brayer from the same producer. Basic colors available, they mix well. Semi-opaque. Needs to be heat-set - the print mantains a really soft hand after, impercteptible by touch alone. Can be used on natural fibers only. Durability is fine, although the first two machine washes of the test t-shirt shown a slight washout on the design (this might also mean I'm shit at heat setting though lol). Good price to quality ratio; much more efficient compared to the Speedball ink.
PRINTMAKING BLOCKS TYPES
SPEEDBALL SPEEDY-CARVE and SPEEDY-CUT EASY BLOCKS

Both are soft blocks and carve really well. Neither needs a press to print on fabric - a pressure by hand or a clean brayer will suffice. Speedy Carve is suitable for all kinds of block-printing ink, Speedy-Cut Easy for water soluble-inks only (oil-based ones might break the surface and wear it out much faster). Personally I prefer Speedy Carve, as the other one is a bit crumbly, which hinders the carving process.
ESSDEE MASTERCUT and SOFTCUT BLOCKS

Both are great! MasterCut blocks are softer and suitable for water-based inks only, while SoftCut can be used for all kind of block-printing inks. First one is 4mm, the other 3mm thick, so you need to get used to carve a thinner surface. As with the Speedball ones, you just need to push the design into the fabric to print it by hand or better - roll a clean brayer over the back of it.
MILAN VINYL CARVING BLOCKS

Very good for fabric printing - smooth, soft, carve easily, print very well. Suitable for all kinds of inks, although they often leave an annoying residue on the surface that needs more cleaning that the other ones. Again - print by pressing with your hand or with a brayer.
BUDGET OPTION - PVC STRIP CURTAIN!

This is a great option for the beginners and people who are fine with carving a transparent plate. Price to quality ratio is AMAZING. I managed to buy two single strips of different thickness (3mm and 4mm if I recall) and both carve and print very well. However, I personally have trouble with carving transparent plates and I find the smell of these pvc curtains absolutely repulsive (might be just my luck tho).
OTHER CARVING/ PRINTMAKING BLOCKS

Stuff you can get from certain sites and find in different hobby sets. Usually have no info on them regarding what they're made of or what inks to use them with. It's always a hit or miss. Although I have to say that the synthetic carving blocks I got a few years ago in Stamp-making set at Flying Tiger Copehagen and similar one at Action recently were both pretty decent. They are often stinky cheap too, so worth trying!
CLASSIC LINO / HARD PVC BLOCKS

Not recommended. You can possibly get good results with classic, grey linoleum if you're presistent enough, but it doesn't have a give that the previous ones have, that is necessary to make a fine print on fabric. You'd also possibly need a press for it, to add more pressure. It's much easier with softer blocks. The hard blocks are out of the question.
RUBBER BLOCKS Not recommended! They crumble and carve unevenly.
DIFFERENT MATERIALS One of the best carving materials I own is some yellow lino flooring scraps sent by my dear friend! I used some of it to made these prints. Search locally for possible solutions, you never know what you'll find.
CARVING TOOLS
HANDLE WITH INTERCHANGEABLE CUTTERS - CAUTION!!!

If you're a beginner and want to buy your first carving tools, DO NOT buy these (the two sets on the picture are ones that I have myself and base this info upon). They are cheap and look handy, but! The cutters are not pre-sharpened and you will try in vain to carve anything with these straight out of the box. Sharpening the u- and v-shaped blades is a thing you might want to learn only when you commit to block printing, trust me. It's good to buy 2-3 tools that are more expensive, but ready to use. There are many good, different brands worldwide, I encourage also to search locally!
PFEIL is a brand I can personally attest to. EXCELLENT quality.
EWA MARCINKOWSKA - for my homies from Poland! I use their tools for 20 years now, good stuff.
PROCESS
To be frank, I assume most of the people who want to try block printing on fabric, might've already tried block printing (on paper) in the past. I won't give you a step by step here. If you're a newbie though, the process of making a linocut is pretty straightforward and easy to research. Here are two videos for starters with some helpful info on the topic:
youtube
youtube
That's the gist of it. I hope at least some of this info will help you to get into fabric printing <3 Let me know if you have any questions. ALSO - if any of you know different ink brands, materials and helpful tips for fabric printing you're willing to share, please comment on this post or reblog with sources! Thanks!!

𝐂𝐫𝐨𝐰𝐧𝐞𝐝 𝐢𝐧 𝐒𝐞𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐭𝐬
𝐏𝐚𝐢𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠: Rafe x Princess!reader
𝐒𝐮𝐦𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐲: Just a royal seeking freedom Reader enters the world of elite university life, determined to escape expectations and live on her own terms. But the deeper she goes, the harder it becomes to keep her identity and her heart hidden.

⸻
𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐮𝐞 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝟏
⸻
They called her Her Royal Highness.
In every hallway, every ballroom, every carefully orchestrated appearance, the words followed her like perfume—sweet, stifling, and impossible to wash off.
She was the Princess of the United Kingdom.
Daughter of a beloved monarchy. Future symbol of a nation.
A face printed on commemorative mugs, tabloid covers, and postage stamps.
But no one ever asked what she wanted.
⸻
The palace was beautiful, yes—gleaming floors, towering ceilings, chandeliers older than the country itself.
But it was also quiet. Too quiet. The kind of silence that echoes in your bones.
Her friends? Handpicked. Polished. Always smiling. Always watching.
They laughed at her jokes, but the laughter never reached their eyes.
They complimented her outfits, but only after glancing at each other first.
They held her secrets like currency never quite trustworthy, always too careful.
She wasn’t blind.
She knew they liked what she represented, not who she was.
Because no one ever really knew her. Not even her.
Her life was ruled by expectations spoken and unspoken.
Walk here. Speak like this. Smile. Don’t smile too much.
Never slouch. Never cry in public.
Marry someone approved. Never be alone with someone unvetted.
Being a princess wasn’t a life. It was a performance.
And she was tired of acting.
⸻
So she did something unheard of.
She asked for freedom.
Not forever. Not scandalously.
Just one year. One normal year.
A private university in America. Under a protected identity. No press, no headlines, no handshakes.
Her parents were horrified. Her advisors thought she was joking.
“You’re royalty,” her mother had said, tone clipped and disbelieving. “People don’t say no to girls like you.”
“I’m not asking to be told no,” she’d replied softly. “I’m asking to be human.”
It wasn’t a fight. Not exactly. But it wasn’t easy, either.
There were meetings. Contracts. Security arrangements.
And a name—her mother’s grandmother’s maiden name—to use while abroad.
It was a compromise. But it was hers.
⸻
The morning she left, she didn’t cry.
She sat in the back of a black car with bulletproof glass and watched the palace gates fade behind her.
She boarded a private plane alone.
No press. No sendoff. Just a simple, elegant goodbye whispered into the quiet air.
Twelve hours of silence and steel.
She didn’t sleep.
She just watched the sky shift from London’s soft gray to the sharp blue of the American East Coast.
And when the plane finally touched down, something unfamiliar bloomed in her chest.
It wasn’t joy. Or relief. Not yet.
It was possibility.
⸻
Stepping off the plane, she pulled her coat tighter and breathed in the strange, unfamiliar air.
Louder. Sharper. Less filtered.
Her boots hit the pavement. Her driver waited quietly. Her discreet security detail trailed behind at a distance.
But for the first time in her life… no one bowed.
No one called her your highness.
And as the wind whipped her hair across her cheeks, she smiled.
She was still a princess. That part couldn’t be erased.
But for now?
She was just a girl.
And America didn’t know her name.

In the Garden - linocut - 44x49 cm
Here my second work for the Good Omens got true Talent of Sendarya's channel !
Let me explain you how it works !👇

Linocut is a engraving technique, but the easy way. You need to have some material like ink for print, a good paper, a plate of glass, a roll and a flat object (a spoon can be enough)

All is in the name : you cut the linoleum with a gouge the form you want to print. It's like a stamp. Where you put the ink will be inked, the parts without inks will stayed blank.
You need to "work" your ink for having a good fluid texture and apply it regularly on the matrice. Then you put the inked matrice on the paper and press with the flat object. It's a physical and hard part cause you need to press enough but not too much and regularly on all the surface !

The reveal moment is the worst for nerves cause you see if the ink was good or not, if you put too much or not enough. Here you can see that I put too much ink on Aziraphale. The ink is gone in the holes.

Thanks to the sun for brought light for these potos ☀️ The gold is so shiny !🌟
Again thank you to @sendarya for giving us the possibility to show our work💖 You can watch the non competitive talent show tomorrow sunday 3 👇👇👇

- Letters from the Dead - (Part 1)
Langhus, 21 March 1990 | © The Old Nick | Source: Letters from the Dead
The brackets will indicate possible context or corrections (sometimes commentary). - 💜
"Only Black is true, only Death is real!!! Gore is trend! Hello Nick! It's Dead here again. Hey- you're really good at drawing, I use to do some drawing stuff myself. I enclose something of it in this letter. Maybe we together can work something out, maybe even in Metal Destruction…? You asked of releases, if we need some artworks for that... Well we rarely give out much and as for the next release we'll probably have some photograph instead. But if we would need something that you might feel for help us out with I'll tell of it. So what we can use drawings for is for stuff like flyers, ads and letterpages. So far I have done the drawings for that... well the main reason of that is that we have a (old!) xerox mashine and I'm the one in the band that 'can' draw. It's not so often that I have time left to spend hours or sometimes days by making drawings and too many don't like that kind of drawings I make (but fuck them wimps!). But onto the Deathlike Silence Prod. now. The 2nd edition of the 1st release on DSP. - Merciless is out now, the one you get here as promo. We're looking for distributors everywhere and everybody who can sell 10 (or more) records will receive a copy for free + that 10 records will be cheaper. As soon as this the 2nd ed. has paid, Imperator will go in studio.
Imperators LP will contain 8-10 songs (depending on how many "old demo songs" they'll use - but it'll be new trax as well) and it'll be entitled "The time before time". After that it'll probably be the colombian Masacre as the next release. Masacre will be very soon release a 7- inches with 3 demo songs on the greek label Scene of Love. That's a new started label and I hope they can give out enough copies, not limited ed. of it. Of course we give the bands free hands and they're not bounded to use at all, but I'm thinking of the fact that Masacre is selling so much... Only in Colombia their 1st, and only demo sold 1000 copies ( which is more than our Deathcrush demo has sold worldwide...). We can only press up 1000 copies each time of every edition of DSP, and the first ed. Of Merciless sold out as fast as we could pack and post it. This second ed. we recieved [received] for not a so long time ago will depend on how much stamps we can get, of how soon it'll sell out. In Norway it's very hard to sell records - it's far away from USA or South America and I don't think any real scene exists here. Do you think you can take care of some distribution/selling of DSP releases, or you maybe know someone else who's interested? [True dedication]. I think Merciless will be very easy to sell in Italy. Many zines exists there and we recieve many letters from there also. We also sell other records (given out by various underground labels) but it can be so different of what records of others releases we sell 'cos we usually don't get so many of them, so they sell out so soon. But anyway - I can tell of what we presently have got (except of Merciless)
LP's (£10000 + postage)
Agressor/Loudblast (split LP, France) "Licenced to thrash"
Arakain (Czechoslovakia, speed metal - I do not like this one!) "Thrash the Trash"
Nomed (France)... very boring mainstream... "Like..."
Abomination (USA)
Disharmonic Orchestra/Pungent Stench (Austria, split LP)
Malicious Intent (Canada) "Shades of black"
7's (£5000 + postage)
Asphyx (Holland, Limited ed. 1000 copies) "Mutilating Process"
Atrocity (Germany) "Blue Blood"
Pungent Stench (Austria) "Extreme Deformity"
Disharmonic Orchestra (Austria) "Successive Substitution"
Do not print this in Metal Destruction, I will explain it to you, ok. If you want any of these records above, please tell of how many and of what records so I can see how much the postage will be. Now over to Mayhem. For the first time we've been in studio and recorded 2 songs (first time with this line-up I mean). It'll be released on Chicken Brain Records, a swedish kind of underground label some time in this autumn. It'll be 8-19 other (swedish) bands on it, among them Merciless. I don't know the title of this compilation LP/CD. Our songs that'll be on it are "The Freezing Moon" and "Carnage". The Freezing Moon is a new one and pretty different from our other songs, as example it's a long guitar solo on a very long Doom part on it and that's because we wanted to have a solo at only one track (of our new ones). Carnage was made in '85 (!) so it's really old. It was on the 1st demo/reh - Pure Fucking Armageddon (released in only 100 copies and not available) but with the thought of the very bad sound on it we feeled for playing it again and try to keep the original sound of it. I'll tape these trax for ya but I'm not so sure of if it'll be enclosed in this letter or if I'll put this letter togeather [together] with the Merciless record but anyhow you'll get this tape. You can record it to others if you like to but please don't trade it, and I'll record some else bands too for filling out the rest of the tape. Have you heard of the INCREADIBLY KILLING GREAT band Tormentor from Hungary? Their demo is about 4 years old but it sounds like the Death/Black metal bands of today. We try to find out if they want a deal on DSP. But unfortunately they hardly speak any English at all so it seems like neither them or us understood it... We think of releasing a full-lengtht LP of Mayhem but it seems to take a fucking longtime before we got material enough for it... The only we know about it is a title that MUST be used - De Mysteriis Dom. Sathanas. That was about all future plans I can tell of I guess. I look forward to see Metal Destruction. There's a possibility that we can sell it also, but I can't say if for sure.
About Satanism... well, I'd like to join a very underground and Illful, Evil and Grim Coven. I think you know of the hassles by finding any or getting any contact with a such. I do NOT like what's created by Anton LaVey like 1st Church of Satan. I came in contact with a dude who's a degree in the American Satans Sons - Church of Satan and he explained of it has nothing to do with LaVey at all. I asked of if it does exist in Europe also and of what it is exactly... well he didn't reply. But I heard later thet Satans Sons shall exist in Europe but I still don't know in which countries it is. In Norway it's not much of this, but in Sweden (-I am swedish) that 1st Church shall be in Stockholm (the capital there) and it shall be about 5 churches built by satanic sects, used only by satanists, mostly it's under christian churches - like the one under "Mariakyrkan" (Mary's Church) in the South of Stockholm where the 1st Church of Satan use to hang around at. I know it exists really Dark covens that use human sacrifices and are eating human flesh - them are those I try to find. I do not know much about magic and I can't say I'm a practicer of it 'cos I havn't succed. What is depending on what one can do in magic (all of its kind) is of what books one can get...those are hidden in libraries and so hard to even see... 'cos of course they don't let anyone even see them. You must be a scientist or something like if you would see the microfilms of that kind of books. A great library of many various kinds of magical arts and the Blackest of Black Arts too is the British Museum in London. But it's so damned difficult to get ones claws on those books. One book I really wanna get is De Mysteriis Dom. Sathanas, unfortunately it exists only in one copy... are you practicing any magic and do you know of any covens? Have you seen/heard/felt anything supernatural? I have but I didn't understand much of what that was and I think the most of it was only so-called echoes from the past or the future [I am curious about this]. Do you know anything about astral planes and out-of body travelling? You seem to be into it and I agree about stupid trendmakers so it is something that I feel I can tell you of. I had a weird experience once, I had inner bleedings and it couldn't be found at x-rays so when it continued to bleed and bleed I finally fainted and dropped down the floor 'cos I run out of blood. The heart had no blood left to beat and my veins/artairs were almost emptied of blood. "Tecnically" I was dead. At that moment I fell down (into a door I heard of later) I saw a strange blue colour everywhere, it was transparent so I could, for a short moment, see everything in blue, till something shining white and "hot" surrounded me. What happened later is out of interest, I woke up when some ambulance men came and drove me to a hospital and there the bastards of surgery started to cut me up at the wrong side so I got a huge scar for that. However, it's someone I know who's had many out of body experiences and is using magic of various kinds and knows much more than I do of "supernatural" experiences, that I asked of this 'cos it was so strange about those colours. She told me that the first 'plane' in the astral world has the colour blue. The "earthly" plane has the colour black, then comes a grey one that is very near the earthly one and is easy to come to. The next one further is blue, and then it gets brighter and brighter till it "stops" at a white-shining one that can't be entered by mortals. IF any mortal succee enter it, that one is no longer a mortal and can not come back to the other planes nor back to this earth. After the white plane or level or whatever it goes further with other colour I don't know of, there only spirits and great sorcerers can travel. I was told that the white plane I then entered, without I knew it, was the dead world and I died. But I also got thrown back after a short time which very rarely happens. So of what I've heard of I have some kind of purpose to achieve here."
Reached the limit for this one, I will add on!

McDonalds HappyMeal Toys
In this post I will be refering to the toys based on their packaging and distribution centers. The International packaging is the clear plastic bag with printing in multiple languages, when a region has a specific packaging design I will refer to this based on that region.

I have a UK kid's meal box that I keep my unopened International set in, this box has several fun kids activities on it and you can punch out each section to collect the Guardians. This box also has a coupon for the Movie Novelization. the McDonalds logo on the cover is not a sticker but part of the printing, making this a variant cover.

There will be several aditions to this including packaging and box designs from different regions but for now I'm just covering the toys.

The most complex one first, Bunnymund has 2 different versions of his toy. Regional version and the International version. Although I call this the regional version the design was primaily localized in the U.S packaging, Canada (Le Reveil Gardiens) Packaging and the Latin American ( El Origen de los Guardianes) Packaging, it is not to imply that all regional packaging recieved this version, but I have seen it outside of packaging on French second hand stores and calling it simply North American would be excluding the Latin American region that also destributed this model.
If you have a Bunnymund toy shout out your region and which model you have, I'd love to see which version had which distribution range!
The Regional version has a larger bandolier with a slot cut out to hold his boomerang.

He can then reach back and grasp it to toss when you press the button.

The international design has a smaller boomerang permanently fused to his hand, he cannot toss it and pressing the button only creates a karate chop action.

However the International Bunnymund toy comes with the character card and the regional Bunnymund does not.

Because of these changes the arm designs on each figure are slightly different, the Regional one being thicker and bent at a tighter angle. The International version also has a softer airbrush look to the face where the Regional has very clean lines.

Their lot numbers are also placed in different locations, Regional being on the side of the bandolier while the International is on the bottom of the bandolier. Copyright stamp is on the bottom of the foot for both versions.

Bunnymund usually sells for under $10, depending on the region and the model you want you should expect to pay more if you factor in shipping, the International Bunnymund toy with the character card is worth more to U.S. collectors.
Next we have the two keepsake boxes released internationally after the initial 4 toys. These are mostly found in the International packaging but are pictured on regional boxes so if you see them in a regional packaging let me know!

The crowning jewel of a ROTG toy collection is the Jack Frost keepsake box, sold internationally you can expect $30 from this new in the bag, it would sell for more but most buyers have to factor in shipping costs, so selling it with the other toys helps a buyer make the purchase. (this is where the elf and globe toys carry their weight)
The Keepsake box is a blue octogon with Jack Frost on the front holding his staff. His number is on the bottom just above the screws.
To unlock the box remove the staff from Jack's hands and turn it in the snowflake on the side.

Inside the box is a small puzzle of all the Guardians on North's sleigh with the workshop dome in the background.

if you live i the UK this box is easy to find for very low prices, but as it was not released in all regions, particularly the US, it becomes the most valuable peice of the set.

Tooth's keepsake box is similairly as hard to find in the global collectors community, but has less demand.
Her box is shapped like the Toothboxes from the movie and includes three fliptops shapped like the fairies in purple, blue, and teal.

It comes with a paper insert with Jamie's face on it, which slides into the front slot. Directly under where his portrait goes in the number for this toy.
Tooth's keepsake box can go for $15-20 new in the bag.

Can’t wait for someone to make a copy of RS’s coveted “signature” stamp and just buy a few dozen books, stamp them, and sell them as “autographed” at a huge markup, and goofballs will buy them all.
I mean seriously, that stamp will be incredibly easy to copy if it’s not already been copied, it’s the polar opposite of exclusive or personal. Why anyone would pay $20 for that is beyond me but it proves that RS is a shrewd business person by any means necessary and will be richer than I ever will be. No wonder Hades is her idol.
No joke, there are pictures of Rachel using the stamp at SDCC and-
That stamp is literally just a standard one that you could order through any custom manufacturer. It's not a roller in any way, there's no unique cut they're working off of, it's just a round press stamp.
And it shows because this is the quality of the actual ink when it's on the paper-
Basically low grade printer ink on glossy paper. It's not gonna last at all, and it turned out exactly how I was expecting - there's too much solid color with too thin empty areas so the ink is bleeding into what's supposed to be 'white' (we deal with the same concepts in tattooing so I knew this was gonna happen as soon as I saw the stamp design).
Anyways so that's my long-winded way of saying that I took the stamp that was on Rachel's IG from her promotional posts, desaturated it, added a tone curve layer to adjust the sharpness/clarity, and threw it into VistaPrint. Just for science, and because I'm an asshole trying to prove a point.
Would literally only cost me $20-$30 for the stamp after shipping.
Now for obvious reasons I'm not saying anyone SHOULD do this, like... I'm showing you this for science but really, don't go making counterfeits because of this LOL This is really just to demonstrate how easy it would be for anyone to make a convincing replica, which is the unfortunate drawback to using stamps as your "signature" - and with a very low quality printer shop stamp to boot - because it makes it pretty easy to copy. Not to mention showing off the stamp design beforehand through social media means that people (like me, oop-) can rip it out of your image posts and reverse engineer it into something that can be uploaded and purchased. I get she wanted to make sure that people knew what they were getting, it would have been a HUGE piss off to go see her for a signature just to find out she was doing a stamp, but like... these are the risks that come with stamps.
Don't get me wrong, you can just as easily forge a signature, but it's a little harder to nail someone's personal signature vs. a stamp and you can usually find ways to make it more unique (like what Junji Ito did by giving out little doodles on each signature). It also doesn't help that that stamp is made so cheaply that a poorly done replica would probably be on the same level of quality as the authentic one. And of course she added insult to injury by deciding to sell ACTUAL HAND-SIGNED BOOKS WITH ONLY ONE BOOK THAT HAS ONE CRAPPY DOODLE INSIDE AT ONLY ONE SPECIFIC BOOKSTORE A WEEK AFTER SDCC WAS OVER THAT YOU HAVE TO PAY FOR EVEN IF IT MEANS YOU'RE GONNA HAVE AN EXTRA COPY OF A BOOK YOU ALREADY OWN-
sigh This isn't an uncommon thing to do, it's not unique to Rachel, but it gives me grifting gacha vibes and it feels like such a fuck you to the people who travelled all the way out to SDCC and paid for the ticket prices just to get a shitty printer ink stamp and then find out a week later after they've undoubtedly gone home that one bookstore in San Diego actually has hand-signed copies. I've seen Youtubers pull this kind of shit with vinyl printings and Youtooz figures and it's equally tacky.
If she had done it either with handwritten signatures or at the VERY least a better quality stamp design and higher quality ink, then yeah, it would be harder to make it seem legit for anyone who's not privy to creating things like lino cuts or using roller ink and thus make it a much more valuable collector's item. But the books at SDCC were literally made with a stamp that anyone can replicate for $20 and then the hand-signed ones were offered at only one bookstore after Rachel had already flown home. It feels so impersonal and cold to the audience that has supported her through all the bullshit she's pulled in the last year.
#anyways does anyone want my totally real signed copy of volume 1#$100 or best offer#for legal reasons this is a joke#insert sarcasm here#lore olympus critical#lo critical#antiloreolympus#anti lore olympus#ama#ask me anything#anon ask me anything#anon ama

i think the main problem with the internet is that its way too easy to send hate mail. back in the day you had to put your entire pussy into it. hand write an entire letter or find some way to print it, buy stamps, send it, put your whole legal name and address on it to. now you just, what. press a button? AND its anonymous? fuck you.

Storytime.
A little doodle I made of myself in 2022, when I was in Printmaking 2 class, which was mostly about etching techniques.
For those who don't know, etching is a group of printmaking techniques in which you use a metal plate treated with acid. When the plate is finished, you cover it in ink and stamp it onto thick paper sheets. They are not easy.
The stamping (printmaking) was the hardest part, because in these techniques in particular, all of the prints must look the same, especially the black and white ones. A little ink stain where it shouldn't be? Worthless. An area turned out lighter or less defined than in the plate? Worthless. You didn't use the right amount of ink, making the result too light or too dark? Worthless. And believe me, it's very easy to make these mistakes.
Now keep in mind I passed Printmaking 1 during the pandemic when classes were still online. It was a mess and I didn't get to use the right equipment to make the prints, which made Printmaking 2 harder than it should be. Also keep in mind the class was unusually large when we got back to having classes in the building. It was like 20 students and only three presses. Also keep in mind the paper was bought in bulk, and despite it being cheaper than professional paper, it was still expensive, so it was frustrating when the prints turned out wrong, not to mention making one print could take like 20-30 minutes in a five-hour class.
Anyway, I loved that class but it was kind of stressful.

I'm going to take this opportunity to reflect on my Inktober this year. I think we all need a distraction and I've had some wine which I think is a pretty good combo. So if you're curious about how one person's first Inktober went:
I kinda-but-not-really succeeded. I decided to do an eraser carving every day, but I didn't actually have enough erasers for the whole month (???), so there were some gaps in the 2nd half. (The thing is, I tried several kinds of erasers that are sold locally, and most were absolute trash. The ones I used for the challenge were from Temu, but then I ran out, and the delivery would take ages, and the only semi decent ones sold locally were out of stock, so that's how it happened.) Lesson learned: next time, commit to the thing, which includes buying all the necessary materials in advance.
More things I learned:
- I enjoy eraser carving/linocut, and I definitely got a lot better at it.
- I can carve out (ha) an hour out of pretty much any day in order to do art.
- However, more often than not, this hour will be just before my bedtime, and I will be cranky and sleepy.
- I initially liked erasers because they were easy to carve, but the more the challenge progressed, the more annoyed I was with how soft and crumbly they were. Not to mention the little bits of eraser that got stuck everywhere.
- I need a better way to do prints because just pressing the carved out eraser onto an inkpad never worked like I wanted it to (there was either too much or not enough ink, or it smudged, or there was a piece of eraser residue stuck in there that fucked everything up) and it made me want to throw the whole desk through the window.
- I either vibe with the prompts (and feel super inspired), or I don't (and feel like what I'm doing is totally pointless). Unfortunately, it's mostly the latter.
- I fail sometimes and that's ok. Took me ~30 years to get there but I'm so happy I did, because historically I'd just abandon whatever was doing if the failing became too much.
- I value each and every note I get from sharing my silly little carvings on Tumblr.
Conclusions:
- I want to do more eraser carvings or maybe even proper linocuts.
- I need better materials. The only thing that I'm not thoroughly frustrated with is my blades. (This is the kind of thing a fantasy novel assassin would say.)
- I can do the 'do one thing every day' challenges, but they don't really work for me - at least not when it comes to art. I think I would be better off doing one or two more intricate pieces every week instead.
- I'm better off getting inspiration from real life than following prompts.
- I'll do it again next year.
Thanks to everyone who looked at my little eraser stamps! I'll do more, and I'm accepting suggestions on what to carve. I don't promise it will be good, but I'll carve it anyway.
#however I'm first doing a not-a-nanowrimo#because I have an idea and I haven't chased an idea in like 15 years and it's about time I do it again#love you all and keep your heads up#inktober 2024#inktober#eraser carving#linocarving#art#artists on tumblr

Celebrity/Famous!Luke Masterlist
even if i want to, i can’t look away (it ain’t easy to forget you) (ao3) - bellawritess luke/calum T, 4k
Summary: “Calum,” Luke says. It might be wishful thinking, but Calum is pretty sure he sounds happy. “What’s up? Haven’t heard from you in a while.”
Yeah. Since Luke moved to London. Well. Since Luke got cast in a play in the West End and relocated in less than a week. Calum knows exactly when they last spoke was, and not only because there’s a time stamp on the text messages. Luke’s play — okay, the play Luke is starring in — had been a smashing success, and after he’d left Calum on read three times in a row, Calum had gotten the unsent message loud and clear.
Everything Has Changed (ao3) - mukedayparade michael/luke N/R, 6k
Summary: Michael has been obsessed with Luke Hemmings and his band 5 Seconds of Summer for 3 years, and all he’s wanted since then was to get a chance to meet them.
Fine Print - @daydadahlias (cornflowerblue (daydadahlias)) luke/ashton M, 61k
Summary: If Michael says Ashton Irwin will be a good bodyguard then sure, Luke will put his money on Ashton being a good bodyguard. Besides, all Luke needs is a shadow. So what if he doesn’t like him?
Who ever cared about liking their shadow anyway?
or the one where Luke is a heartbroken solo artist who can’t sleep and Ashton is his less-than-enthusiastic bodyguard
for real (ao3) - galacticsugar luke/calum E, 63k
Summary: There’s an order to things in LA. An established code of conduct between celebrity and mere mortal, wherein the mere mortal does not engage with the celebrity unless it is an approved event, like a red carpet or a meet & greet. It’s a symbiotic relationship that allows the celebrities to live their lives in relative peace and allows the mere mortals to look upon their beauty in the wild.
Homecoming - @sup3rbloom (haveufoundwhaturlookingfor) ot4 T, 4k
Summary: Luke is an up and coming famous singer with quite a big following already. He’s just gotten home from his six month tour, and he’s reunited with his three non-famous boyfriends. Luke decides to take a big leap and come out with his three boyfriends.
let me love you (ao3) - haveufoundwhaturlookingfor luke/ashton T, 10k
Summary: Luke Hemmings is a rockstar with a troubled past. He’s struggling with an alcohol addiction and a career that’s going downhill, but Calum isn’t giving up on him. Calum suggests Luke a fake boyfriend to help keep the bad press away. That’s where Ashton comes in, Ashton who is an embodiment of sunshine. Luke’s hesitant due to his failed past relationships, but he agrees, because he knows this is what he needs to save his career.
Long Time, No See (ao3) - ConfusedPython michael/luke, calum/ashton T, 23k
Summary: Michael hears a song on the radio, catches a radio interview where 5 Seconds of Summer talks about their new single (Beside You). And the names and voices are familiar. Then someone knocks at the door and maybe Michael’s luck isn’t so bad after all.
meet me at the dive bar (ao3) - mukelftv luke/ashton T, 796
Summary: luke tries to be smooth, to no avail.
Number One (ao3) - iCheeseYou (EHkook) michael/luke T, 3k
Summary: Michael hasn’t seen his musician of a best friend in a year since he left for a world tour.
Off-Screen (ao3) - allsassnoclass (brightblackholes) luke/ashton G, 3k
Summary: Now that classes are being taught from home due to the pandemic, students are getting a glimpse into Professor Irwin’s home life, especially when his mysterious husband keeps interrupting class.
Popstar (ao3) - L4sht0n luke/ashton, michael/calum T, 54k (WIP)
Summary: Luke didn't need a fake boyfriend. He had some problems, every celebrity had some problems. Drug, sex and alcohol was Luke's getaway, but there was nothing wrong with it. A bit problematic yes, but he did nothing wrong. Luke was losing fans because of his bad behaviour, and he was kind of an asshole. Luke could admit this. But he didn't need a fake boyfriend. He didn't need Ashton Irwin to play his fake boyfriend and clean up his mess. If Luke's management wanted to clean up Luke so badly they should just hire a cleaning lady. Luke didn't need a fake boyfriend, didn't want it. Then why did the fake relationship feel so real?
S (ao3) - HolyAFIx94 luke/calum G, 5k
Summary: ☆ Songbird. Any songs a person sings will get stuck in their soulmate’s head for the duration they decide to sing it ☆
Symphony No. 4 in F Major (ao3) - orphan_account michael/luke T, 9k
Summary: What happens when Michael Clifford, esteemed member of the New York Philharmonic, meets Luke Hemmings, punk-pop rockstar?
Too Loud (ao3) - SecondsOfMuke michael/luke T, 917
Summary: Being trapped in the window seat of the airplane for the first time while thousands of feet in the air was enough to spike my anxiety, but being trapped between that and him, was on a whole other level.
Or
When fanboy Michael finds himself seated next to lead singer Luke Hemmings.
Trouble Is I Can’t Find A Way (You’re Part of Me) (ao3) - sunsetmagnolia luke/ashton T, 24k
Summary: Ashton didn’t know what to make of the thought that Luke was here. In his city. After all the effort he’d put into making sure they were a whole country away from each other for so many years.

Me, watching an Instagram reel of someone with really nice nails carefully placing little gummy stamps on a plastic sheet, inking it and carefully placing it on a hand painted card before running it through a rolling press: neat way to get even pressure on the stamp I guess.
Me, watching another Instagram reel from the Sacramento History Museum where they’re using antique printing presses, placing the little metal etchings into the metal housing, inking it, and carefully placing the card blank before running it through a rolling press: hey . . . wait . . . we just reinvented the printing press in plastic for the home
The ancestors of every rebellion ever where easy to transport printing presses would have changed the tides: (cheering wildly)

heey i have a band and want to make tshirts to sell at our next show, do you have any easy/cheap diy ideas that look nice? silkscreening is too expensive, and i'm not shure if a stencil + fabric paint would stand the test of time...
Okay this craft is thin foam board paper, cardboard, and hot glue, super glue if u can whateever to get that down.
First draw the design you want on the tshirt. Make it simple enough you can cut it out with scissors. Here im drawing out the words again and again playing with making each letter a solid shape with no holes, playing with letter sizes and fonts, trying to draw it smaller and bigger to see how it feels.
Then the finalised logo and size is done in tracing paper so it can be flipped :3 u can also use white paper, flip it, then shine your phone light under it, and draw the logo on the otherside. i just find havi a reference to work off of and getting familiar with the shapes your working with helps.

You cut the logo out of the foam board, then place it on the cardboard flipped to make the mirror image of your logo. Glue down all the foam pieces. I fucked up the D in my logo because i glued it on the wrong side. So i just cut it out again in some green foam.

Make sure to cut off the excess cardboard on the edges. Then tada you have a stamp!
To begin printing with your stamp use a roller to apply fabric paint to it. I personally use speedball fabric ink it is better for rolling onto stamps. The ink stays wet for a long time, applys well to fabric, washs away easy, and it stays better.
I use a rubber speedball roller as well as it applys it evenly. you can definitely diy a roller from a lint roller wrapped in smth. I use an overpriced $40 handle to press down the stamp to fabric. Before i used a heavy mug to press them down.
As you can see by how bad and uneven the color is in the below photo of my first print with the stamp, what really matters is taking your time to apply pressure and your body weight over all of the stamp. And making sure to take your time. It makes the difference in the tshirt print as you can see that i figured out to apply evenly.
If a patch doesnt come out even, you can come back in with a paint brush to fill in the gaps so it looks cleaner, as i did with that patch later.

Good luck with making your tshirts!! I cant wait to start making tshirts myself! So far all ive done is my own clothing but just you wait :3
Also i use wet wipes to try wipe it off. Its not linocut so you cant wash it. So making sure theres no paint on the cardboard before you print is important.
