If there are charitable causes that you care about but you don't have much money and/or time to help:
(Note for if this leaves Christian Tumblr, that this blog is religious and some of the advice given is religious in nature. If you're of a different religion, consider substituting 'Church' or any other religious building mentioned for ones that exist in your faith)
Pray. Dedicate a day, a week, a month, a year to focusing on prayers for that charitable cause. Pray for every aspect of it that you can think of. Pray for comfort to those affected. For volunteers. For projects to receive the financial funding they need. For research to make breakthroughs. Pray for politicians to soften their hearts and enact positive changes. Pray for people in general to soften their hearts and enact positive changes.
Encourage your followers to pray for that cause. Share or write prayers for that cause or share other people's prayers for that cause. There are so many people online that are ready and willing to pray for anything that you ask of them. Bringing awareness that this is something that you want prayed for is greatly beneficial. And by sharing this, you may even encourage your followers to not only pray but to look into the cause and contribute in other ways too.
Bring it up with your Priest/Church. Your Church may be able to hold a prayer group for this cause. It may be able to run a financial drive or a drive to donate food or clothing or blankets depending on the cause. Or they may be able to source up volunteers. If you don't feel comfortable / aren't able to bring it up with your Priest, bring it up with other members of your Church that you do feel comfortable reaching out to. Be upfront about the amount of time you can commit and you may be able to bring it up with them.
Bring it up with other Churches. A lot of Churches welcome prayer requests from people. Try reaching out to them about a cause that is important to you. You can write up a template email to save time that highlights its importance to you and any important links. They can join in with praying for the cause, or their Church might have the resources in order to contribute material support.
Bring it up with Discord servers or other online social networks you're in. Approach the admins in private (don't just post without permission) and say "hey this is a cause I really care about, is there anything we can do about this as a community?". Some of them may be willing to share fundraisers or even make a community fundraising goal. People like communal activities that bring them together, and things like collectively fundraising and raising awareness can be great fun. Especially if different challenges are set up. If you're an admin of a discord server or other social media network, this can be something you can put in place for your followers.
Share and spread fundraisers. Even if you don't have the money to donate, your followers might. Sharing a fundraiser brings it to new people and with new people comes more opportunities for that fundraiser to receive donations. Depending on the platform, sharing the fundraiser link might even improve it's analytics which encourages the fundraising platform itself to promote the fundraiser more, resulting in new donations.
A minimum donation is better than nothing. Even if you can only donate the minimum amount. Be that £2/$2 or even just an old tshirt or pair of socks that you no longer use or a can or two of soup that you don't particularly like. All of these donations are important and can make a difference. Please never feel like your donation is too small to be worth giving. Depending on the platform, lots of little donations can also boost that fundraiser and make more people see it and more likely to donate. Your $2 could boost that fundraiser and make someone that can donate $20/$50/$100/$200 donate. All thanks to your donation.
Educate yourself on that topic. Education is incredibly important, and things like books or Youtube videos can be gone through at your own pace. You can listen to a podcast about the topic in the shower or in the car. You can read even just a couple of pages of a book before you doze off to sleep. Education empowers, it enables us to better talk about the topic to others that might help them engage with the cause. It helps us to be there for people suffering. It helps us know what to do if a problem happens to us.
Educate others on that topic. If you have the time to make posts about that topic, then great! It could be infographics, it could be sharing interesting books or videos. It could be summarising information. There are so many possibilities. If you don't have the time or ability to make posts. See what other users are sharing on that topic and share those posts. If there's an interesting article you've come across, they should have share buttons that will populate a post with the link and a little bit of information around it.
Reach out to the charities. Some charities actually offer online volunteering opportunities that can be much more flexible with time commitments rather than say going into a shop on a specific day for X amount of hours. But you may need to reach out to charities to find out about this. Give them an idea of your skillset and how much time you can realistically commit to in an average day. Ask them if there's other ways you can help out if they're not looking for volunteers. They may have some really good suggestions of ways you can help.
Reach out to individuals. If they're struggling, offer them a kind word and shoulder to lean on. Ask if there's other ways you can help them with any struggles. Maybe they need help finding resources in their area. Maybe they need help with getting some groceries in if they're struggling too much to go outside / manage online ordering. Even if you can't help them yourself, you may know someone that can help them.
Share positivity. If you don't feel comfortable reaching out to people 1-on-1 even just sharing a little inspirational quote (that either you post or share from someone else) can make a difference. While these don't help everyone, some people do really benefit from seeing a nice encouraging post. Some mental health charities make these kinds of posts, and if you can share them from them then not only are you sharing positivity but you're raising awareness of a helpful resource.
Donate loyalty points. If you have any loyalty cards, then look to see if any of them have the means of donating to charity using your points. If you're spending money regularly in that shop anyways, then using those points towards charity can be a great way of getting the things you need while also being able to donate to a good cause. There are also platforms like Microsoft Rewards that allow you to donate to various charities through points that you earn. The amount you can donate and the charities you can donate to vary depending on region but it can be worth looking into.
Online Shopping: Some charities have online stores that you can purchase from where you can get goods for yourself, and your money will go towards that charity. Some online shopping platforms may also allow you to donate to charities through shopping on their platform. Have a look to see if there's anything like that for platforms that you use or platforms that you'd be willing and able to switch to. This way you can make your weekly/monthly shop contribute towards a good cause.
Look to Monasteries/Convents. I know that some have an online store where you can buy goods for yourself, and the money raised will go towards the Monastery/Convent and towards any projects they are undertaking that year. Some of them such as St. Elisabeth Convent also let you purchase goods through their online store that directly goes to children/adults in needs (e.g. you purchase an item, and they deal with donating it themselves). St. Elisabeth Convent are currently doing an Easter drive for the special needs children and vulnerable adults under their care. Look to see if there's other Monasteries/Convents in your area doing similar. Consider reaching out to them for advice on how to help. And look to see if there's donation points on the site or places you can drop off used goods that they can make use of.
Buy your cards through charity shops. If you're going to be buying Christmas or birthday cards (or cards for any other occasion) anyways. Have a look to your charity shops. Often they are around the same price point as local card shops (or sometimes even cheaper!) and they usually have some really lovely designs. This way, you can turn a purchase you were going to make anyways into something that also helps other people. Often charity shops will have e-card versions as well, which you can consider purchasing for long distance friends or relatives.
Reach out to local stores and supermarkets. Sometimes supermarkets and shops will work on a charity drives around Christmas time. I know that my local Waterstones always has a Christmas tree where you can gift items to children and teenagers in need based off of books that they've requested. I have sometimes seen my supermarket partner with the local foodbank. But consider reaching out to those shops and supermarkets and seeing if they can create a fundraiser for a local cause you care about. They may be able to organise something like a food drive or having donation spots through the shop for those wanting to donate money.
Reach out to local politicians. The kinds of local politicians you have will obviously depend on your country and area. But look into who you can reach out to that manages things to do with the charitable cause you care about. Consider sending them an email encouraging them to do more for that cause and even bring up wanting advice on how you can help out. They may have local suggestions for you. Some charities / petitions / fundraisers will have a draft template or even a form that automatically sends it out to your local politician.

usamericans the house voted to rescind over a billion dollars in funds for public media, the bill is going to the senate next. this will impact everything from stations like pbs kids — a station that is ALREADY in trouble after the trump admin terminated the ready to learn funding citing pbs being ‘woke’ — which is some of the only educational programming (full of representation might i add) available to poor kids and has been integral in so many of our lives, all the way to emergency alerts in rural areas. in some places these services will be scaled back and in others they can absolutely be completely shut down without this funding. can yall PLEASE contact your senators and ask them to vote no. you can find an email template here and it’ll even send it for you if you fill your information in. it takes less than a minute
