The age gap between Jack and Edwin is interesting to me because I don’t see how they were friends at 8 and 17. It makes more sense in my head that they’re like 4 years apart.

You meet his new boyfriend, he mentions that he works as a reporter but also does a little writing under a pen name. After the extenuating circumstances finally die down, you settle in with your guilty pleasure gay erotica zine. As you're reading along, you start to notice some...unnervingly familiar characteristics in the roguish nobleman character. You try to brush it off, but the coincidences keep piling up and yep. You, uh, you know those eyes. Those abs. That dick. You suddenly remember that tidbit about your ex's new boyfriend and it all comes together in mortifying clarity. Your ex's new boyfriend is the author of your favorite gay porn and is taking inspiration from his relationship for his writing. You will be haunted by descriptions of his dick for the foreseeable future. Your current boyfriend asks if you're done with it because he wants to read it next. You are.

Thinking abt Jack and Edwin again.

Jack and Edwin who went from childhood friends to spiteful toxic lovers, to bitter exes, to acquaintances of convenience, to amicable friends, to… family. To hugging each other goodbye at the ends of weekends visiting the others home with their respective loves of their lives, to exchanging Christmas gifts and giggling over childhood inside jokes when they drink a little too much. To sharing their adoration for the girl they’ve both come to see as a sister, as endearingly exhausting as she is. To worrying about eachother health, reminding the others he’s getting to that age that his father started having trouble with his back. Edwin watching the ice over Jacks heart slowly melt away and reveal the young Jack Edwin once knew, seeing Jack cup Alan’s cheeks in his hand and beam down at him like he hung the stars. Jack watching Edwin become something much brighter, happier, more loved and more bold than he’d ever known him before with every day that passes, and he spends a little more time being so thoroughly loved and appreciated by his new family. Their growth is so special to me <3

Presenting the Patreon fanart poll winner for the month of October! Gosh, I would take any excuse in the world to draw the characters from this book. If you haven’t read it yet, I can’t recommend it enough. The magical system alone is mindblowing, nevermind Freya Marske’s beautiful prose. This one isn’t to be missed if you love queer historical fantasy. 😍

Not my usual kind of post but I just finished A Marvellous Light and I need to rant a little because, honestly, it is now one of my favourite books and I really want more people to read it!

Edwin and Robin -and all the characters in general- are the highlight of this story: they are as lovable as they are tredimensional and well written protagonists and I really enjoyed how their interests define their POVs (Ex. You can really see Robin's artistic side in the way he describes things without the constant, explicit, reminder of art being one of his passions)

I loved the intimate scenes because, apart from being really well written, they give the reader so much information about the characters' personalities and their past traumas (I'm looking at you, Edwin 👀 -ILY)

I found the book really well paced: no unnecessary drama or scenes dragged for pages and pages without purpose and all the explanations fit perfectly into the dialogues without "breaking" the narration

I want more Jack Alston. He's a asshole, but I really want to see his ✨bad attitude✨ used for good

I can't wait to read the second book (why does the hardcover version cost so much?!) and I really hope I'll get to know more about the magic system because it's still a little confusing to me😅

PS. I love how well Robin and Edwin match each other's freak
