I'm sure this has been said before, but I really like the idea that Tadius fantasized about killing the king (and probably the prince, too) before he met Ella, in the same way Ella fantasized about killing her step sisters and mother. They both feel trapped, aidless, abused, and lack a large level of autonomy; which is why both of them are eager to enact their revenge the second they have the ability/opportunity to do so.

That's why Tadius is so quick to:

1. Believe Ella is talking about the king in her monologue (she's hypothetically saying what he's secretly been thinking for a long time)

2. Smother the king with a pillow (both enact unapologetic (/pos) vengeance before their exact plan is fully realized because they are so eager to gain both freedom and justice)

Hello Elladius/Tadella shippers, I give you this prompt idea:

AU where Ella was able to marry the Prince, and Tadius is forced to stand by and watch her be miserable, suffering at the responsibilities of being a queen and wife. One night he can’t take it anymore, he’s standing outside of the royal bedroom with a knife, thinking “it’s for the queen, I have to do this for her”- planning to kill the Prince in his sleep, only once he sneaks in, he’s faced with Ella who is also holding a knife to the sleeping Prince’s neck. And the two just…stare at each other.

AU where the Prince survives except, once the trolls are dead, Ella refuses to marry him. Her desire to marry him- once she met him- was based off the power she could gain to defeat the trolls and...well, the trolls are dead.

And that should be it, except the Prince has decided Ella is his One True Love and decides to win her back. And by "win her back", he sends Tadius over every week or so with another elaborate gift and the same speech.

This would be humiliating because the renewed House of Ashmore start knowing when Tadius is going to show up. And it is- Ella definitely sells the first few gifts to hire staff to help clean up the house and gain some nicer clothes- bit over time, Ella and Tadius are more distracted by talking to each other.

One day, Tadius returns with a letter.

It's his resignation letter.
