Unveiling the Double-Edged Sword: The Intersection of Human Psychology and Manipulation
The field of human psychology has greatly advanced our understanding of people, shedding light on the intricacies of human behavior, cognition, and emotions. This enhanced knowledge has empowered us to comprehend individuals and connect on deeper levels. However, as our understanding has grown, so too has the potential for manipulation. In this thought-provoking blog post, we explore the double-edged sword of our continued understanding of human psychology. We delve into how this knowledge has made us better at understanding people while simultaneously amplifying the abilities of those who seek to manipulate others.
Unveiling Human Psychology: Advancements in the study of human psychology have unraveled the mysteries of our thoughts, motivations, and behaviors. Through rigorous research and scientific exploration, we have gained valuable insights into the complexities of human cognition, emotions, and social dynamics. This understanding enables us to empathize, connect, and communicate more effectively, fostering healthier relationships and promoting personal growth.
Empowerment through Awareness: As we uncover the intricacies of human psychology, we become better equipped to recognize and understand the motivations and behaviors of others. This awareness allows us to navigate social interactions with greater empathy, sensitivity, and respect. It enables us to forge deeper connections, foster meaningful dialogue, and build more inclusive and harmonious communities.
The Dark Side of Understanding: However, our enhanced understanding of human psychology has inadvertently created opportunities for manipulation. Those with nefarious intentions can exploit our psychological vulnerabilities, leveraging their knowledge to deceive, control, or exploit others. Manipulative individuals may exploit cognitive biases, emotional triggers, and social dynamics to gain power or advantage, causing harm to unsuspecting individuals.
Psychological Manipulation: Psychological manipulation refers to the deliberate and unethical tactics used to influence, control, or deceive others. Manipulators may exploit psychological principles, such as persuasion techniques, emotional manipulation, or gaslighting, to achieve their desired outcomes. Their actions can undermine trust, exploit vulnerabilities, and erode personal agency.
Safeguarding against Manipulation: While manipulation poses challenges, there are ways to safeguard against its harmful effects. Developing critical thinking skills, emotional intelligence, and a strong sense of self-awareness can help individuals recognize and resist manipulative tactics. Promoting ethical behavior, fostering open communication, and advocating for transparency and accountability are vital in creating a society less susceptible to manipulation.
Ethical Use of Psychological Knowledge: To counter the dark side of manipulation, it is crucial to promote the ethical use of psychological knowledge. Ethical practitioners, researchers, and educators can help disseminate accurate information, raise awareness about manipulation tactics, and empower individuals to make informed choices. By leveraging psychological insights for positive purposes, we can foster personal growth, enhance relationships, and create a more just and compassionate society.
Our continued understanding of human psychology has undoubtedly improved our ability to understand and connect with others. However, we must also confront the unsettling reality that this knowledge can be exploited by manipulative individuals. By raising awareness, promoting ethical use of psychological insights, and nurturing critical thinking, we can mitigate the negative effects of manipulation and build a society that values empathy, authenticity, and respectful communication. Let us harness the power of human psychology for the betterment of individuals and communities, fostering an environment where understanding and compassion thrive, and manipulation finds no fertile ground to grow.

“Thoughts about the concept of this connection between all the Terrans”!?
Very curious now 👀
SO BASICALLY.
The concept is rather simple right. Telling this for the people who didn't watch Earthspark. You feel something -> everyone else feel the same thing. And this connection ties two humans and five Cybertronians. Simple.
But the IMPLICATIONS. It's all fun and stuff when the connection is about feeling someone being happy. But the moment you start to think about other emotions? That's a nightmare.
What about fear? Embarrassment? What about boredom? Boredom doesn't sound bad but imagine. Your sister wants to talk about her special interest. You don't even understand it but you are trying to be supportive and polite so you listen to her anyway. Except - the whole family knows what you actually feel.
The concept of emotional connection is a horror story material. There's always a whole lot emotions in your head. You can't do something embarrassing without all your siblings immediately knowing about that. Good chunk of privacy is just GONE. You fucked up and now ashamed? Everyone felt that. You saw a big spider and it gave you a tiny heart attack? All your siblings know.
You have a tough time and feeling down? All your brothers and sisters suffer from it. And you know it. And they know it. So they all grow tired of you constantly ruining their mood. And you can feel them starting being annoyed. But you can't turn off your own emotions can you?
You have a crush? Every. Each. One. Of your brothers and sisters. Can feel. Every time you're fucking horny. If it isn't a disaster then what is it? I would go insane if I had to live like that.
Moving to the more..physical territory.
Are you sure humans and Cybertronians have all the same emotions? What about the emotions humans don't have? What about Cybertronians feeling something and humans being absolutely unable to process it because he don't have the part of the brain responsible for that?
Or perhaps Cybertronians getting dysphoria because they keep experiencing the feelings they weren't built for?
Oh and. Can your siblings feel when you are in pain? Because if they can then you probably don't want to make fighting with evil forces your every day routine.
And you definitely don't want your enemies knowing about the connection right? Because those are war criminals. They would not hesitate to use it. They would rather quickly figure out that in order to disable the whole family they just need to get one person and then damage them REALLY bad. And humans are reeeeeaally easy to damage.
The show doesn't go that far of course. But it could. Easily. Just imagine.

#maccadam#tf earthspark#earthspark#tfe#when I was watching season 1 I kept expecting one of the things above to happen#I was fully waiting for the show to explore the connection#but it never really did anything interesting with it?#the ability was just. added. and then barely ever used except for the moments#when characters go “Ohh I feel sadness of my sister”#like. yeah no shit#she looks sad. it's called empathy you don't need the magic connection to perform that understanding#I am still waiting to see if the concept gets ever explored more#it has such a potential

#i fucking lol'd at the idea of goofus the serial killer. lmfaooo.#i am soooo thrilled with the bonding scenes between penelope and voit#because i think it was needed for them to really delve into this idea of 'is voit a different person now that he has empathy back?'#because we had rossi 'bonding' but it was fake af because rossi could barely hide his detestation for voit#and obviously ochoa's on his side and aside from me thinking she's the disciple she's a doctor so she has to be#so this was important to show someone who has the capability to connect with voit while also having a reason NOT to but she does anyway#in another life pen and voit would have been computer bros#anyway i really enjoyed it and i am praying that voit is not duping penelope because it would break my heart if so#also god damnnnn but penelope looked so gorgeous this episode. Going through the murderbot show tag and I'm kinda upset by how many people are saying that the Gurathin scene was creepy, unnecessary, look how they massacred my boy etc etc
Like instead of thinking hey, maybe this is character who is under a lot of stress and feels fundamentally different from his peers and is desperately trying to connect but it's just not fucking working. And under the circumstances going off to be alone and take comfort in the scent of another person, someone you care about who isn't here right now and who you're worried about is a perfectly understandable thing to do
Instead of doing that, they're all ew he sniffed her pillow how creepy what a pervert
I'm so tired. I'm so fucking tired. People can't even give grace to a fictional character doing something that harms no one
That scene wasn't creepy. It wasn't cringey. It was fucking heartbreaking. And honestly? That scene made me fall in love with Gurathin as a character
He's so fucking alone and I get it, I fucking get it
#murderbot show#mbtv#god. people really hate autistics dont they#like even fans of a show where the main character is widely acknowledged to be autistic rep#still shit on people for doing harmless things that they see as weird or creepy#oh sure they love murderbot's haha funney don't look at me don't perceive me autism#but gurathin's desperate for connection please see me please understand me autism? no sympathy. no goddamn empathy#original post

let's hear it for the OCs that force you to improve as a person due to the mindset it requires to roleplay them
#ive shared this before with some people but man#oliver is basically the entire reason i'm normal#before i made him in 2008 i was a fucked up little 4chan menace who struggled with empathy and even my own queer identity#then i suddenly had to spend hours a day being a kind old man#'what would a good person do' became a frequent consideration#and suddenly i was part of a real community based on real connections and not the clout of who can be The Funniest#if i wanted to fit in i had to abandon the troll ego#so i did. and a lot of personal discovery followed#anyway where i'm going with this is i'm hoping this version of him helps me with a new fault of mine#he seems to be good at that

‘I didn’t mean to upset you…’
The first time I heard Stede say this to Ed, before I’d even understood the nature of their relationship, it sounded such an intimate thing to say.
They’ve only just met. Stede’s shown Ed an alleged illustration of himself as Blackbeard, and Ed’s reacted with disappointment and some annoyance. Not at Stede, he makes that very clear, but at his perceived depiction.
Now Stede could’ve said, ‘Sorry, mate, didn’t think,’ or ‘Oh, I’ll just put it away then.’ But Stede takes direct responsibility for the picture and the upset it caused. It’s such a moment of empathy. He then listens as to why Ed is upset by it.
And Stede’s tone. It’s not fear. It’s not ‘I’ve upset Blackbeard and he might hurt me,’; it’s ‘I’ve hurt Ed and I need to apologise.’
The fact Ed can show his upset as well. He’s cultivated a brand, and it’s taken root. But he doesn’t say to Stede, ‘Yeah, that’s me, so watch out!’ He immediately undermines the whole performance and facade, ‘That isn’t me, and it hurts that people - that you, man I have just met, but who has piqued my interest greatly - thinks that. Because it’s that Stede might think this is him that is bothering Ed most even if he might not fully realise yet.

And has anyone, ever, said a line like that to Ed his whole life: ‘I didn’t mean to upset you’… ? And meant it as Stede does? It’s entirely genuine. It recognises that Ed is a person. When was the last time that happened?
Just the immediacy of the intimacy and connection…
Please don’t think of me that way!
I’m sorry I’ve hurt you by even suggesting it, but I never saw you like that anyway.

Before I write my actual review, I have to say one thing. Ginny's heart beats more for Marcus than for Maxine because Marcus is and always has been her best friend and closest confidant. The rift between Maxine and Ginny began the moment she decided to have that secret thing with Marcus, and then at the beginning of the second season, when she learned everything about her mother and was isolated by Maxine and literally pushed into Marcus and Abby's arms because Max treated them like garbage too. That's when it was sealed that Marcus was and always will be her best friend. This caused a chain reaction in which Ginny, who initially only had MANG, formed her own safe space with Marcus, Abby, and Bracia. Maxine and Ginny never rekindled their bond because it was already weak and ultimately broke the moment Ginny was pushed away. So, it doesn't surprise me, and I don't blame Ginny, that she seeks comfort from everyone except Maxine. BUT, I'm still very much on Maxine's side when we talk about actions and wordings. Because her POV made me realize her pain and how hurtful the girls behaved, which at first didn't seem so bad because most of the excluding happened naturally at first from the outside. But when they started to do it on purpose ... The girls were horrible to her, and I think the writers went a bit too far. I get that Ginny and Abby don't see Max as their 'person' as explained in the beginning but dang they shouldn't have been so nonchalant and unempathetic about it. Abby did not surprise me (love her though) but Ginny really shocked and scared me. Like girl that was not nice! In the end the whole plot is not black and white to me and I appreciate how I can feel both sides. But we still could've said and done things differently. No words for Norah she's just a bird.
#ginny & georgia#ginny and georgia#ginny & georgia 3#MANG#I loved Abby and Ginnys connection so much I just wished it didn't end like this#and I'm not a fan of people acting like Ginny owes Maxine her friendship because she befriended her with her friends and because#growing apart it the most natural thing to happen in friendships#yes Max did a lot for her & was always there for her & willing to listen but if Ginny doesn't feel comfortable with her that's her choice#the only thing she owes her is kindness and empathy and maybe to be there if Maxine needs her#ginny miller#abby littman#maxine baker#markus baker

I don't know how to feel about Viv not mentioning historical events in Hazbin.
On one hand, I can respect that she probably had the foresight to realize she isn't responsible enough to write those topics, but on the other hand, it feels off.
Beside still referencing time periods through the character designs (Vox's retro TV head and Val's 70s pimp uniform) and Helluva Boss referencing modern pop culture memes, there's the fact that the majority of HH cast are POC characters who lived during the 20th century.
It's strange not to mentioned what those community went though during those times, seeing how those events were big historical moments that changed and shaped many POC communities forever. Ex: Niffty would realistically grown up in an incarceration camp during her teen years, or how the Harlem Renaissance would have helped Alastor as it did for many black entrepreneurs at the time, etc.
It feels like an erasure of history, as well as, the characters' identities. It's just weird not to even acknowledge what struggles or victories these POC characters would have goes through for a show trying to be "serious" and "deep".
Also, HB explores (albeit badly) themes of racism, discrimination, classism, cultural taboos of interracial relationships, inequity, prosecutorial misconduct, and other systemic and social issues that people of color faced and fought against or for during the 20th century. If Viv felt comfortable enough to explore these themes in HB, I don't know why they couldn't be explored in HH too, especially since they're more applicable in HH than HB.
#I think this is just indicative how much of an irresponsible writer Viv is#She already has an issue in cherrypicking which and when themes are bad + doesn't want to acknowledge how as a writer who CHOSE to put-#serious topics and themes in her works has a responsibility to portray them accurately and tasteful#This is probably why many of the characters' backstories will be underwhelming because outside of it being predictions fans had from#the pilot era. they'll be too generic and too bland to warrant any real connection or empathy from the audience as characters because of th#disconnect from their world to ours and lack of character's specific struggles in their backstories which could have been explained-#or show why they became the way they did#Plus the fact Viv feels comfortable to explore these themes in a fantasy fictional setting-#but doesn't when it's connected to real life shows her privilege#hazbin hotel critical#hazbin hotel criticism#hazbin critical#vivziepop critical#vivziepop criticism#꧁rambles꧂

If I can already see that compassionate action is necessary to bring an end to my own suffering, then I must learn how to empathize with everyone I encounter.
I have to allow myself to see the experiences of others — their desires and worries, the beliefs they hold about the world, the wide variety of feelings they have, and so on. My own experience is necessarily limited because I am only one person. There is only so much that a single person can do in their own lifetime, so there will be many experiences I will never personally have.
To develop greater empathy, I must grow out of my narrow experience of life and into the varied experiences of diverse others.

For the WIP Word Guessing Game :D
Bacta
It's starting to look as if I just have no words in any of my WIPs at this point, but I swear I do alas, I am however once again stumped 💀
Have this :D I'm not even gonna pretend it's gonna be three sentences okay - I like words too much to keep it That short zhzhz
Zeb let out a low hiss, his ears falling flat against his skull. "Karabast - be gentle, will ya?!"
Kallus huffs. "Quit being such a baby," he snarks. Nevertheless, the movement of the bacta soaked cloth pressing against Zeb's wound becomes decidedly more careful, even as Kallus continues to grumble at Zeb's fussiness.
Zeb glares at him. "Bold words from a guy who can't even look at the wound without gagging." He scratched absentmindedly at his neck, earning a yelp and a scowl from Kallus, who reprimands him for moving around. Zeb ignores him in favor of a question that has been on his mind for the past half hour since Kallus first attempted to treat his wound. "How did ya get that far as an ISB agent with hemophobia anyway?" he asks. "Seems rather impractical."
Kallus shrugs, before making the mistake of trying to lift the cloth to get a better look at the wound. The little color he regained quickly drains from his cheeks, leaving his skin pale and clammy looking. He swallows thickly. "I've never had this problem before," he responds, enfeebled.
"What changed?"
Kallus straightens a little, raising his gaze to meet Zeb's. As he looks at Zeb, his eyes soften. "No idea," he says, in a manner completely unconvincing.
Hehe thank you for the ask!! Very fun :D sorry it got so long dhdhdh I got carried away
#mars rambles#I like to headcanon that Kallus is actually really bad with the sight of injuries#but that was a pretty impractical trait to have as an Imperial officer#so he taught himself to suppress the phobia by shutting off his empathy#him defecting and relearning to emotionally connect with people does have the drawback of his phobia returning full force :')#which he of course discovers at the worst possible time#alexsandr kallus#mars writes#mars answers#ask
