Grian's mouth tastes like grass, and he's staring up at the sky.

He blinks. Blinks again. He's lying on stone, cushioned by something soft and cool- moss? His eyes are itchy. He's not sure, exactly, how long he's been lying here, staring at the sky. The sunlight is nice, though.

Time passes. The sun moves in the sky, slides lower. The air cools. It occurs to Grian that he should sit up, maybe. Maybe he should move.

Where is he, exactly? He turns his head, finally, away from the sky to look, rolling it on its side. His mouth is dry, and tastes green.

Oh, he's on top of the Entity. He frowns, trying to reach back in his memory to figure how he got here. Had he been restocking? That sounds right, but the thought feels vague, uncertain.

He moves to shift an arm, and something next to his ear tears, or sounds like it's tearing. He freezes, and a shiver runs through his nervous system from head to toe. Something feels very wrong, like something in him has just gone into shock.

All at once, he needs to stand up. He needs to move. He needs to not be lying here anymore.

He shoves himself up to his knees and then to his feet, finds himself unpleasantly wobbly. Something rustles when he stands- his wings? They feel heavy on his back. His nerve endings all feel raw and frayed, and the cold air is a relief.

He hugs his arms, tightens his wings around his shoulders. They rustle again, and something soft tickles against his neck. He jolts, jerks around- oh, it's just moss. That's fine. A little must have gotten in his feathers.

He nods to himself, feels reassured. That's what happened. After restocking, he fell asleep on top of the Entity in the sun, and a little moss had gotten in his feathers.

That's all.

I like to write Pharma as having a fucking rough history but in the end he was always fucked by his own hubris. He didn't remotely ask for help when dealing with Tarn and part of that is from thinking he's so good and had it handled, part of it is from being scared shitless and needing to feel remotely like he was in control of the situation and you can't have that feeling when you ask for help with him. Also my headcanon is that he thinks it's cowardly to ask for help--it's submission, an acknowledging of inability and failure. I'd say inferority but I really think he operates on the axis of fear of mediocrity and inability. He has something to prove him this shitty society and it always like he needed to prove he deserves to exist. So it's extremely hard for him to ask for help... Coupled with his own fucking hubris, it came out so fucking deadly. He needed to prove that he was in control, that he's still smart and capable, not a scared little mouse who got caught in a mental trap with a fucking decepticon, with his fucked up little plot. Just like how he removed Ratchet from his body. It's a powerplay, a showcase of the fact he STILL has his skills, he hasn't mentally degraded or unraveled. The stress ISN'T getting to him.

we mean it in reference to part 1 (9.1) and part 2 (9.2) of chapter 9! it’s just how we ended up stylizing it, but part 2 will also be long — hence why there is a part 2!
